hiii eivor x vili for the ship meme 😁😁
YOU KNOW I SHIP IT SO HARD.
What made you ship it?
it has literally all of my favourite tropes rolled into one:
friends to lovers
idiots in love
battle couple
girlboss and malewife (because for all his viking nonsense vili absolutely wants to be malewifed up)
parental trauma (not a shipping trope but i go feral for characters with complex relationships with their parents and this is like the jackpot on all sides)
you couldn't write a pairing that was more up my alley than these knuckleheads.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
Oh, so many things (mostly of my own making.) i could write reams about what i love about their dynamic but for brevity i'll sum it up like this - i think, at their core, eivor and vili are both deeply driven by a need for familial connection and a sense of belonging. in vili this manifests in the tension with his father and disconnect he feels with a throne he sees as disrupting or weakening his relationship with hemming. in eivor you see it in the dogged way she works for sigurd - almost everything she does is (arguably) for him and his approval, even though he doesn't always give it.
and i think when they're together you see the commonality of their experience and how they fill that need for each other. they grow up and change as people, but they never change who they are to one another. eivor doesn't really laugh and joke in the game they way she does with vili, and in my head he's also probably similarly serious away from her (there's enough context clues - the thegns not liking him has always suggested to me that vili doesn't suffer fools and can be quite rigid in his views once he makes them.) they're each other's true north, their honest home, and i truly believe that.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
that as far as satisfying canon narratives go, eivor and vili shouldn't end up together. as much as it hurts my little shipper heart, i'm drawn to the poetry of two people in love living parallel lives but not together. becoming jarls when they're both reluctant to take the seat but growing because of it, always better for being in each other's company but knowing other people need them more than they need to be together, loving each other from afar nonetheless. maybe vili can die alone in the fuckin' middle of nowhere too just for dramatic effect. he visits rollo in francia and ends up somewhere in a field in normandy idk. i've given it as much thought as darby did to eivor's last chapter so it's canon now i guess
thank you for the ask!!
Send me a ship and I’ll answer three questions based on if I ship it or not.
#it's been 86 years and i will still word vomit all my feelings about this pair at the drop of a hat#and be salty about the last chapter#they are my blorbos and i will hold them softly in my hands until the end of time#eivor x vili#ask games

people who say that Anji X Baiken is good because of the malewife/girlboss dynamic are missing the point. The appeal of those two together is the idea that two horrible people meeting each other and forming a bond can save each other and themselves rather then just make them both worse.
Make no mistake. Anji and Baiken are not traditionally “good” people. They have both done some underhanded, brutal, evil shit for petty, personal, selfish reasons without a hint of remorse. Leaving Baiken’s tragic backstory and Anji’s probably tragic one (I say probably because we have little to any actual info about this guy we can actually trust) out of it:
One of them is a brutal warrior who cuts down anyone who gets in her way without thinking about it at all and is on a path of complete self-destruction to put someone very specific in the ground no matter what collateral damage she might incur on the way and is this close to snapping all the way and just going on a indiscriminate killing spree. And the other one is a pathological liar who schemes endlessly and manipulates just about everyone he meets for his own ends and is so deceptive to the core of his being that the name most people know him by is not only fake but one out of probably hundreds of fake names he’s used over the years and he doesn’t care about the moral character of the people he works with so long as he gets what he wants out of them.
Or at least, that’s how they used to be. Because than they met each other. And than Anji just decides to hang out with Baiken, and Baiken, for whatever reason, just lets him hang around.
And, somehow, they started to change.
Baiken grew a sense of mercy, started actually stopping herself from hurting people, started the long and arduous process of reflecting on herself and what she’s doing. Anji began gaining a wider perspective, started focusing his talents into something more productive and constructive, began making actual connections with people that ran deeper then plain manipulation.
It didn’t happen over night. It took them years to change and unlearn and turn into something new. And at the core of them they are still the lone killer and lying ghost, but that’s not all they are anymore. And they have each other to thank for it.
They call each other out on their bullshit. Baiken sees through Anji’s lies without even trying, forces him to at least try and be honest and truthful about what he’s doing and what he’s thinking. Anji stands his ground against Baiken’s anger, forces her to find another way to get through to him, to actually communicate with him in a way that doesn’t involve violence.
They were two broken, wounded people, completely unable to help themselves. And than they met someone that they, somehow, made a connection with, that they wanted to help. And through helping each other, they also help themselves. As one grows so does the other, until finally Anji puts his all into saving the world by bringing a truth to light, while Baiken faces a mirror of who she was and both teaches and learns to let go.
And that’s the goddamned appeal of Anbai.
....although, if I’m being honest with myself, the malewife/girlboss dynamic is a very nice bonus.
#guilty gear#Anji Mito#Baiken#meta#yes im calling this rambling post a meta sue me#i wrote a thing for Anji to put a few ideas on paper#and it involved him being fucked up and that made me think#oh dear god they helped each other grow as people oh my GOD#and here you are

wheatley x chell. go on
explodes
my Printed Copy Of Blue Sky And I have a few words. dare i say this is the ORIGINAL girlboss and malewife, for me at least. friends to enemies back to friends and, very eventually, lovers. nobody comes out of aperture without a good number of scars and i love me a good redemption story. i love chell trying to navigate a post-combine world with the scraps of humanity that clung on through it all, like we always do. trying to find Normalcy where she's not constantly running on adrenaline fighting for her life, finding a peaceful way to live the rest of her life. she is a testament to the tenacity of humanity as a whole. and the thought of wheatley somehow finding his way back to earth and getting to reconnect with her, to have meant his apology to the void and trying to make up for what he did, to finally have Escaped aperture and THE BOTH OF THEM getting to see what comes after!! GOD. sometimes you need someone who knows what you've been through and they are Perfect to help each other through it. they were a team before, they can be a team again, though hopefully this time without any Life Or Death situations.
this gets the "better in fanon than in canon" tag because, even though it can still be fun otherwise, the absolute Best versions of this ship exist with Plentiful Headcanons and post-aperture environments. wheatley having to choose to better himself and make up for betraying her is a Core Piece to me, chell has already fought for her happy ending but he hasn't yet. he has the opportunity, but he has to take the Steps. and while she has no obligation to forgive him... it's a nice thought that she would give him that chance, he is probably her oldest friend by virtue of not having anybody left from Before Aperture, and he's giving this all an honest shot.
and if you plug in the "ALL the personality constructs used to be Real Human People like GLaDOS" headcanon? it gives it Many layers of Robot Identity Crisis that i am ALWAYS here for, and he gets to join her in trying to rediscover what it means to be human and live.
so anyway this is the original OTP it still rots my brain so very wonderfully they even have the Complimentary Colors thing going on i ADORE THEM
