Which of your ocs, if any, participate in races? How seriously do they take winning? Do any of them have beef with each other or with canon characters?

Gio was intended to be a full on racer, but he tends to accidentally cause power outages when he gets excited, so that didn't last long.

Bernadette was a champion coach in her youth, the accident that forced the end of her career is what led her to being bitter regarding engines.

Cricket and Nolan are both retired national engines, very successful ones at that. Control is a bit of a collector, so he paid a pretty penny for them when they officially retired.

Geiger is a racer, they are, uh...spirited. Yeah, that's what I'll go with. They take it more serious than most trainfolk their age.

Paskha is the dining car that Turnov sometimes mentions! She and Turnov are siblings (Something seen as a bit unusual, usually engines and coaches that race together are a couple), and quite a power duo. They've been racing for a very long time, which is a representation of how good they are. If an engine doesn't race well, they're usually put back to typical passenger or freight work right away. They've been racing together for about 50 years (Trains age very slowly), and won't be stopping anytime soon.

Prince of Wales used to mention having a guard, and that's who Sentry is! He isn't very into the sport itself, but he does good at it so Prince still races with him.

Smokebox was an upcoming racer, his career was ended permanently when his boiler burst.

As for beef with canon characters, most of them are chill.

However, Geiger has a lot of hatred for just...other engines in general. They have some issues, especially with steam trains, so they just. really hate Rusty.

Bernadette is distrusting of engines in general, but usually people can work past it. However, she has sent Greaseball out of her office crying before-

Snowy hates electrics and diesels and she will have this fact broadcasted wherever she can.

TFW: Your idiot twin doesn't believe that a mutual friend has a crush on him, and all you can do is brace yourself for the inevitable fallout that you're going to have to deal with. Recently I've decided that a) Ben and Percy are actually really cute together and b) Bill is completely over relationship drama LMAOO It's definitely more platonic then romantic (the twins are both Aroace in my HC), but idk, they're cute! Two cheeky lil guys <3 And although it's a bit of a one-sided thing at first, Ben had it in his smokebox that "well I don't feel that way so why would anyone feel like that about me??", eventually they get to talking and agree that, yeah, they like each other a lot, and even though their relationship isn't strictly platonic or romantic, that's a-okay! They're just happy to vibe together <3 But all in all just some silly wholesome fluff featuring one of my new favourite ships, and their very begrudging "third wheel" LOL So I hope you guys like it! I've been working on more AU stuff this month that I'm not quite ready to share yet, but soon hopefully! Until then, enjoy the sillies. xD Also I decree that Ben and Percy's ship name should be Pen. You ever wonder if the reason why Flying Scotsman calls Gordon his "Little Brother" is not because he was built first (because he was not, Gordon is older by virtue of being their class's prototype, and the second oldest would be Great Northern who was the first properly finished A1 Pacific, followed by Sir Frederick Banburry and THEN Flying Scotsman), nor because he's bigger than him (both locomotives are the exact same height and length), but because he was technically an older brother once before all his little siblings's lives got cut short?

Think about it. We've seen Gordon's side of things in the Railway Series. We saw how badly he was handling finding out that all but one of his siblings were decommissioned and cut apart for scrap. Surely Flying Scotsman was also trying to handle his grief... It would certainly explain why the Fat Controller managed to book for him to come to Sodor on such short notice (perhaps Flying Scotsman's owners and crew were also having difficulty getting him to run properly while he was mourning, so the chance to see his one remaining sibling was one they took with paid expenses because they hoped it would help him move on).

How can we be sure Flying Scotsman wasn't struggling just as much as Gordon? Sure, we know Gordon is the one engine who shuts down the most when it comes to change... But do we really know what goes on in his smokebox outside of the personable mask he wears for the public?

Maybe calling Gordon by that nickname is a (bad) way for him to cope because admitting to the fact he's not moved on from his own sense of loss would be absolutely mortifying. Maybe he feels like saying he needs more time or more help would somehow mean he failed his owners and crew, who arranged for that meeting all those years ago and spent "way too much" time and money doing so. Maybe he feels like he's somehow dishonoring his family's memory by not being the strong and unshakably powerful engine he's meant to be. The thoroughbred record-breaking Gresley A3 Pacific he was designed to be.

When everyone has this idea of him that he has to maintain in order to keep running and upholding his legacy (or so he thinks anyway...), it's probably very hard to be genuinely honest about his own struggles. And inevitably something has to give... Perhaps his and Gordon's bond as siblings.
