The Unsung Heroes of Your Curtain Ensemble
If your curtains were a rock band, the curtain rod would be the drummer. Why, you ask? Well, just like the drummer sets the rhythm and adds depth to a song, curtain rods provide structure and enhance the overall look of your curtains. The spotlight may be on the curtains, but it’s the curtain rods that truly make them shine.
Consider a curtain rod as the backbone of your window treatment. Its primary function is simple: to hold up your curtains. But don’t be fooled by its simplicity. The choice of the curtain rod, its design, and material can make or break the aesthetic appeal of your drapery.
The traditional curtain rod is the one that most people are familiar with. Usually made from metal or wood, it is installed above the window frame. Traditional rods are known for their versatility as they can support different types of curtains, from lightweight sheers to heavy drapes. Moreover, they come in a wide array of styles, colors, and finishes, giving you the freedom to match them with your curtains and room decor.
Next up is the tension rod, the go-to choice for renters or for those who love a quick and easy installation process. As the name suggests, it uses tension to stay in place. All you have to do is extend the rod until it fits snugly within your window frame, and your curtains are ready to be hung. It’s as easy as pie and doesn’t leave any holes or marks on your walls.
If you’re looking for a curtain rod that can also contribute to the insulation of your room, the wrap-around rod is your answer. This rod extends beyond the window on either side, allowing your curtains to wrap around to the wall. It’s a great option if you have thermal or blackout curtains, as it effectively blocks light and drafts from creeping in from the sides of your window.
Then, we have the double rod, perfect for the lovers of layered looks. As you might have guessed, a double rod allows you to hang two sets of curtains. You can have sheer curtains on the inside for when you want soft, diffused light, and blackout curtains on the outside for when you want complete darkness.
While selecting a curtain rod, keep in mind the overall aesthetic of your room. A sleek, metallic rod might go well with modern decor, while a rod with ornate finials could complement a room with traditional furnishings.
So, there you have it. Curtain rods might seem like a small detail in the grand scheme of your home decor, but remember, the devil is in the details. Choosing the right curtain rod can add a layer of sophistication and style to your window treatments, turning them from mundane to majestic. So, don’t overlook these unsung heroes; embrace them, and let them enhance the look and function of your curtains.

Boiling water (pt.2)
You end up curled up on yourself near the edge of the pool. Your stomach is empty and it's starting to hurt. All you can do is curl up tighter and hope that someone is looking for you.
You're about to doze off again when you hear the bubbles again. You crawl away from the pool frantically. Luckily you avoid the splash of water for the most part.
The creature rises from the water again and makes it's self busy with emptying a fishing net. You peak over, seeing it has different types of fish that it's dumping on the shore. It's sorting them by type it seems.
It looks over it's shoulder at you. You look away and scoot back more. It's shoulders droop slightly. It finishes it's sorting and turns it's whole body in your direction.
It reaches out a large, clawed hand in your direction. For a second you think it's trying to grab you but then you notice it's already holding something. It's one of the fish.
You look up at it's face. It's staring at you again. Still very calm. After awhile of you not making any movement it huffs, causing steam to come from it's nostrils.
It brings the fish to it's face, sniffs it and for the first time you see it's mouth. It's face seems to crack in half horizontally and you see thousands of needle thin teeth in multiple rows. It makes you feel a bit nauseous.
It bites into the side of the fish, tearing the meat from the bone. It swallows the little bit it got then holds the fish back out to you. Was it... Showing you it was safe to eat? You look at the fish and the insides actually looked cooked.
Carefully you inch your way closer to the creatures hand. You swipe the fish then scuttle back to the far wall. You sniff the fish and, cautiously, take a bite of it. It's... Not bad. Not the best you've ever had but right now your empty stomach couldn't care less.
You're sure you look like a rabid animal as you eat but that's fine. Not like the creature is going to judge you. Infact, when it sees you 'enjoying' the fish it makes a little tick mark in the ground near the pile of that type.
When you finish it throws you a different type. This one is an eel. You look at it and, no longer starving, reilzes that you probably shouldn't. You look up at the creature and shake your head, hoping it would understand.
It's head tilts a bit in acknowledgement and takes the eel back. You watch as it swallows the eel whole.
Next it slides a rather large crab over to you. You take it and attempt to open it for a long time. A few minutes into the struggle the creature reaches for you, making you flinch.
It pulled it's hand back slightly, waiting for you to relax, then offered up it's palm. You slowly make your way back over to it. You place the crab in it's hand, being careful not to burn yourself on it's skin.
With ease the creature breaks the crab in half. It hands it back to you and you sit closer to the pool. You eat a variety of fish for about half an hour, the creature taking note of what you like and what you don't.
When you are satisfied you lay on the hot rocky floor and close your eyes. You end up taking a well deserved nap. The creature finishes the rest of the fish, saving some of your favorite for the upcoming days. It can't go hunting everyday.
It watches you sleep. Now that you were closer it could get a better look. It ran a claw through your hair, finding the texture forgien and comforting. It couldn't help the small purr that rose from it's chest.
It spent more time than it would admit just playing with your hair. Due to the heat of it's fingers your hair became slightly more curled. It liked that.
It rested it's head on the shore next to your stomach and watched your breathing. It knows it should take you back to where it found you but your outside lungs had been severally damaged. It knows you can't breathe in the water.
It inched closer, sighing. The best it could do was make sure you were healthy and safe for however long you were here. It wondered why you didn't try to explore the tunnels, it's seen others like you wonder in from those ways, but it supposed you had your reasons.
Maybe you wanted to stay.
It didn't know how to feel at that thought. Of course it would accept you with open arms but it didn't know how well you could actually live down here. Your health was important, even though it hadn't had company in a long while.
It was over thinking this. It allowed itself to relax, attempting to copy your breathing but finding it unnecessary. After awhile of watching it became content and fell asleep.
You and the creature had grown closer than you thought you would. You sat closer to the pool and it rested it's head on the shore. Occasionally it would reach to touch you and you found that you stopped pulling away. The touch was hot, yes, but not unbearable.
Communication was actually rather easy, seeing how attentive it was to your tiniest movement. Often times it would know you were upset before you did. When that happened it would lay it's head on the rocks and extend it's arms outward on the floor almost like to hug you. Instead you would sit between it's arms and say whatever you needed to say, knowing it couldn't properly understand you, until you felt better.
Whenever you looked down it would always be staring up at you. Attentive as always. You felt a bit bad about that. It always listened to you and noticed things. You couldn't do the same.
You weren't sure how long you spent in the cave. Days was an understatement at this point. It would always feed you and somehow find clean water for you that you kept in a large bag. You got used to the temperature of the cave. You got used to having the creature with you.
Your hair grew longer and would have become a dreaded mess if not for the creature's love of grooming you. It was careful as always when it came to you. Those moments became a routine. At least once a week you would lay on the bank of the pool, letting your hair fall into the water as the creature played with it.
Its claws would graze against your scalp and you would sigh and relax. When it was satisfied it would usually nudge you up and ring the water out of your hair. But this time it took longer.
When it had finished instead of nudging you awake it rested its forhead on yours. It matched your breathing and ran its hands along the sides of your face. You heard it sigh.
Without thinking much, you reached back and caressed its jaw. With that touch it jolted slightly, focusing again and moving away from you. You whined at the loss of touch.
You've been touch starved for a while. Even before coming to the cave you had felt lonely. Although there was risk of ingury you had finially decided to fully throw caution to the wind. Well, not fully because there was no way you were getting in the water.
You sat up on your knees and clasped your hands on its shoulders. It jumped slightly, looking at you it what you could only describe as awe. You trailed your hands along coral lining its shoulders. You brushed your finger tips against its gills earning a small chirp and a flutter of said gills. You cuped its huge face in your seemingly tiny hands and it purred.
It rolled its face into your touch and you could feel the vibrations from its chest. You trailed your hands down to said chest and it was significantly hotter then its face. You could feel two heart beats under the smooth skin.
When you tried to go lower, towards it's muscular stomach, was when it stopped you. It moves back in the water away from your touch and stared at you. Its worried gaze snapped you out of whatever haze you were in. You stutterd, trying to apologize but it couldn't understand.
You felt horrible. All the anxiety and fear and hopelessness that you felt down here came rushing back to you and you felt horrible. You just touched this creature without any thought, if someone did that to you you would have freaked out. How could you? It was so nice to you and you just betrayed its trust.
You're saying all this out loud to the very same creature you just atempted to take advantage of. Its still staring at you with those wide concerned eyes as you blubber away about being sorry. Suddenly it's hands clasps around your head. Oh god...
This is how you die. Its going to crush your skull and eat your intestines. Tears are still falling from your eyes. Your mouth hangs open in shock, fear and the fact that you were just mid word.
It presses its forhead to yours and coos. Its still looking at you but its eyes aren't angry or scared. Its purring and whistling gives you some comfort. Its large hands let go of your head, roaming down to your shoulders.
It holds you there as you try to calm down. Warm smooth hands caress your upper back and neck till you breath normally. Only when you fully stop shaking is when it let's you go.
You look up at it. You feel like your about to cry again but before you can it nuzzles it's face into yours. You sigh and hold its head against your chest, feeling it purr, the rocky coral being an after thought.
It leaned against your frame, pushing you down slightly, but you didn't mind. Eventually you ended up laying on the floor with the creatures face pressed against your stomach. Its tail swished lazily in the water and its purring had not ceased. Great, it wasnt mad at you.
You layed like that for a while. It tried to scoot higher but couldn't. You chuckled and pet its cheek. This contact was very much appreciated by both of you.
Eventually it started to sing. Or well, it sounded like singing. Its purring had turned to whistling which turned to a soft high pitched melody. It flowed like the ocean and you found that the closer you listend to it the more you understood.
The song was one of loneliness. Of never being truly close to someone. Then of suffering, of pain and battle. Then a lul. Just a low note of nothing for so long, with the loneliness creeping in every now and then. A high pitched spike of fear and confusion. Of regret and anger long since cooled over. Then of... Hope. A sweet soft tune of hope. Nerves made the melody shake but still there was so much hope in this song. At the very end there was a dip of acceptance, and one last lash of loneliness.
You looked down at the creature who was looking up at you. Big eyes stared into yours and apeared to be waiting. You held its face and kissed it softly on the cheek.
It whistled, sending another tune of hope. Followed by unimaginable joy. It was almost to much, you wanted to cry from how happy it sounded. It pulled it'self further up the bank and pressed its face to your chest.
It clicked and whistled and just didnt seem to stop. It was so happy. Why it was so happy was unclear to you but you laughed and held it close to you till it felt ready to pull away.
It didn't pull away for a long time. When it did it seemed to try and copy you. It held your head in its hands and pressed where its mouth should be to your cheek. You giggled and wrapped your arms around its neck.
It lifted you off the floor, making you wrap your legs around its chest out of instinct, and moved further back in the water. The water steamed but it was careful with you and kept you safe.
It always did.

Into Infinity
In the months after the events of “Civil War”, Natasha and Steve face the future together.
[Oneshot (so far) <1,500 words | Rated G | Angst, established Romance (Steve x Nat)] | Optional companion piece to "Refuge" (Part One) (Part Two).
---
Her blond hair fell in waves in front of her face from what had been a tight bun at the back of her head. Natasha shuffled up the steps to the massive archways, then dodged behind a chattering family of tourists as she stepped into the heavily surveilled lobby of the museum. Passing a cluster of ceiling cameras she pretended to fiddle with the controls on her earphones to shield her face, before strolling into a side room and stopping to feign interest in a painting. She found him sitting in one of the sculpture galleries, his frame filling out a long bulky coat and his overgrown dark hair peeking out from under a baseball cap. Smiling, she remembered how he had originally chafed against his instinct to remove his hat inside a building. His head was ducked low over what she realized, soundlessly stepping closer, was one of his sketchpads. He was sketching a sculpture a few paces in front of him, a centuries-old composition in marble and classical Greek. “Class end early?” Steve didn’t even look up from where he was carefully filling in a shadow. One of these days, she promised herself, she’d be able to sneak up on him again. “Faye had to go pick up her kid at school.” “She should’ve made you take over.” “Oh, I’m pretty bad even for a beginner. Take your time, though, I can look around for a while,” she added as he flipped the sketchbook shut. Skylight sunshine brought out the blue in his eyes as he shrugged, already shoving his sketchbook and pencils into his bag. “I could use a snack anyway.” “You already are a snack,” she couldn’t resist pointing out, as he offered her his arm. “Oh is that what the kids are saying these days?” He grinned back. She threw her hands up in mock frustration. “I really don’t know what my classmates are saying half the time.” He steered her out into the corridor. “Now you know how I feel.” He pretended to get confused halfway through the museum in entirely the wrong direction, and she pretended not to know better. She was enjoying herself too much, her arm slipped companionably through his as they ambled among the displays. He kept stopping and she obliged him patiently, watching without a word as his eyes lit up from one exhibit to another. “You’re really maxing out your stealth lessons today, you know that?” she murmured as they sipped coffee at a sun-dappled outdoor table at a kiosk outside the museum. “There’s only so much a baseball cap can do.” He smiled ruefully. “Sorry, Nat. You know I can’t resist this kind of place.” She knew. She grinned forgiveness at him over the rim of her cup. “I’ve been thinking about going back to school.” His tone was wistful even as his eyes tracked restlessly across passersby, the soldier watchful out of habit. “You know I never went to college? It wasn’t much of a thing in my time.” “What, in this economy?” she joked. She knew he wasn’t serious, couldn’t be serious, and the reasons saddened her: He was too big, too odd, would draw too much attention. He’d need documents. He met her smile for bittersweet smile. “Not even Fury would agree to pay for student loans,” she quipped, resisting the urge to chase away the resignation in his face with a touch of her hand. “We could sell the quinjet.” He let her sugar packet hit him in the face and chuckled. “Craigslist. No one would have to know.” “I’ll cash in some dividends from Wakanda,” she deadpanned. “Give you a real low interest rate. Just ‘cause we’re friends.” His impulsive, gentle kiss kindled sparks in her belly, reassured her they were far more than just friends. She savored the secondhand taste of unsweetened coffee on his lips and the subtle scratch of his beard against her cheek. She bought herself a slice of cake. It was stone-cold from the display and the marshmallow frosting had dried up a little on the edges, but she wanted an excuse not to go home yet. Sure enough, as she sat back down at the table, she saw Steve had taken out his sketchpad again, darting appraising glances up at the museum building across the way. He liked drawing architecture, she’d noticed. Taking small bites of her cake she watched him work in silence, quickly filling a new blank page with bold strokes for the sharp angles of walls and roof, outlining finials and cornices in smaller, more precise movements. Most of the Avengers didn't even know about Captain America’s art school background. She’d only found out because she’d made an effort to, back when Fury first assigned them together; she couldn’t very well put her life into the hands of a stranger, she’d reasoned—not even a stranger who was also a legend. And even after he found out that she knew, it had taken him a long time to stop trying to hide his sketching from her. Not out of shame or embarrassment, as she had first guessed, but because it was so intensely personal to him. Even now she pretended to be looking somewhere else, only watching out the corner of her eye as he carefully shaded in brick and ivy on the page. He probably already knew she was looking anyway, she told herself. She remembered his old photograph from the Smithsonian and tried to picture him scrawny and small, sketching the Chrysler Building maybe, or St. Patrick’s Cathedral. “You could just take classes,” she offered later, as they detoured along the river on their unhurried walk home. “What would you major in, anyway, if you could?” He smiled at the thought. “I dunno. Maybe history. Or art history.” “Who knew Captain America was such a huge nerd.” She smirked up at the mix of annoyance and amusement in his face. Then, sombering, she squinted into the sunset. “I could teach dance.” “You could. Then you could be a soloist. And I’d come watch all your shows.” He squeezed her shoulders. “I’d bring you bouquets backstage and all that.” His tone had lost its edge, grown fond and pensive. She looked away, something clenching in her chest. She forced a laugh. “The other girls would probably kill me out of jealousy.” “I thought that only happened in movies.” Chuckling, he folded his hand over hers, their fingers entwining. She drank in the golden wash of light over his face, the unfocused look in his eyes as he took in the skyline across the water, where windows and signs were already blinking to life ahead of nightfall. In this city they were Mike and Nadine, dating for months now having met online, a gym buff and a beginner ballet hobbyist. Now considering enrolment in art history and certification for the Cecchetti method, respectively. Dreaming for a future Steve and Natasha could never have. Nat had taught at the Avengers facility, too, and at SHIELD before that. Subjects a little more dangerous than ballet, a syllabus a little less structured. She smiled at the memory of cavernous training rooms, of form drills escalating into sparring matches. She had enjoyed the feel of a place for herself then, sheltered willingly in her new and strangely public identity as Agent Romanoff, member of something or other, part of a larger, well-oiled machine. But these days, the dust only just beginning to settle from the Sokovia Accords, the unfamiliar sense of freedom—and anonymity—was not unwelcome. “You should look up schools online,” she suggested doggedly, letting Steve wrap his arm around her shoulders against the evening wind. She burrowed into the warmth under his chin, wound her arm around his waist. “Even Harvard livestreams courses now.” She felt more than heard his grunt of acknowledgment. He’d already left the topic behind. Behind them the streetlamps along the boardwalk winked on, one after another in the settling gloom. A couple strolled past, with five dogs straining at their leashes. “You heard back yet?” He was sharp and focused again. She stifled a sigh. “I told Sam oh-two-hundred.” He pressed a gentle kiss to her hair, as if to apologize for his abrupt change in mood. “Then we got all the time in the world.”

How to decorate your place with tree hedges?
Like ornaments add beauty to our face or body, trees are the thing that adds another dimension to a landscape. Here we have written some tips for decoration with hedges to make remarkable your space.
Repeat the Home's Exterior Style
Whatever the home style, ornaments can carry it into the landscape, grounding the building in its setting. To harmonize the rustic stone-clad entry, iron urns are set atop matched terra-cotta pedestals. In the yard, a pediment decorated with dolphins and holding potted succulents echoes the theme that creates a space's focal point. The house's stone is chosen up in the pavers, seamed with grass that softens the walk to the front door.
Design for Outdoor Rooms
A furnished garden should not look too perfect or contrived. The goal is to create outside rooms as comfortable as the ones inside.
Dress Up Garden Entrances
Also, in a miniature landscape, a sequence of discrete spaces connected by paths and passageways adds a sense of expansiveness and mystery to an ordinary stroll. You can create a journey that begins with a wisteria-draped arbor near the house and winds downhill, across terraces, long walks, and down steps that continue the theme of weatherworn stone, eye-catching. Paths indicate the way; gates and iron arches—many from gardener's-supply catalogs and covered with vines—mark transitions to different areas. Potted bougainvillea, citrus trees, and palms further accent entries, as do finials perched on pedestals.
Choose Decor Suited for the Outdoors
Maybe, the couple created an outdoor living room. Still, instead of pricey all-weather wicker, chose roll-arm wicker chairs from an import store and weatherized them with spray-on marine varnish. Concrete pottery-yard pedestals double as cocktail tables and extra seats. A black oval aluminum dining set anchors the main gather-round eating space.
Take Lighting to another Level
Many landscapes can be the most romantic after dark—by the moon's glow and when well-placed electric lights spotlight trees and light up paths. It took their lighting a step further, hanging gracious outdoor lanterns from the boughs of trees. Also, they used tall streetlight-style lamps to roundabouts and punctuated patios. All these fixtures coordinate with the lights set on the house's exterior walls.
Mix in Some Old World Flavor
A birdbath with a fish at its center, placed where paths converge, has the look of an Old World fountain. Plant baskets, rusty lanterns, and watering cans, some picked up at flea markets, round out the timeworn decor.
These are some home decoration tips for your home with tree hedges. But these hedges can make your space worst if they are not properly cared for. So you need to hire a professional arborist for hedge trimming. Rather than it, if you are looking for stump removal, tree pruning, or any other kind of tree-related service, you can choose us.

TIPS THAT WILL SOLVE ALL YOUR WINDOW TREATMENT PROBLEMS
1. Continuously drapes and sheers curtains as near the roof as could be allowed. When in doubt, you'll have to leave an inch for access, yet that is it.
2. You can have the two blinds and curtains. It's each of the an issue of how custom fitted you need your space to be. In case you're going for an increasingly formal look, select shades and curtains.
3. Never stress over your windows being excessively huge. It resembles being excessively pretty - it's simply unrealistic. On the off chance that you don't need curtains to overpower a space; pick a fabric that matches the divider shading and doesn't make differentiate.
4. Ensure your good quality curtains and blinds Dubai supplement the remainder of your furnishings. In a room you have four noteworthy components: floor, roofs, dividers, and furniture, however just one can be the star. Different components are included in a supporting job, so in the event that you need a panther print curtains, you don't need a panther print love seat and tight clamp versa.
5. When picking between wood brace blinds and roman shades, everything relies upon how much light and security you need. Slatted blinds enable you to modify the measure of light a room gets, while roman shades don't give any light access.
6. With narrows windows, you have two shade alternatives. One, you can balance them on the either side before it begins to sound, and afterward complete a roman shade within each window. Or on the other hand, you could do curtains on every window, one on the left, one where the windows go along with, one where different windows join, and one outwardly.
7. Blind length involves individual inclination. The cutting edge puddle is three to four inches.
8. For rooms, power outage blinds are ideal.
9. On the off chance that you have to manage blinding light, attempt sun powered shades. They're roller conceals that are made of punctured vinyl, so they permit just a specific measure of light through.
10. A one-inch wide drape pole is flawless. Concerning the finial, a straightforward look is exemplary.
11. When hanging customized blinds and curtains, ensure you get appropriate totality. You'll need your curtains to be twice or even over multiple times the size of the window.
12. In case you're purchasing instant window ornament boards, purchase the longest ones you can. Have your laundry stitch them for an increasingly custom look.
13. Give the Light Access. Except if you're structuring a room, you most likely needn't bother with power outage conceals. Rather, pick sheer fabrics that let the light in and make a characteristic windy look. Sheer Belgian cloth is incredible to accomplish this look. Then again, attempt heavier fabrics like velvets for security.
14. Separate the Panels. How would you manage different windows spread out crosswise over one huge divider? We actually love broadening an extra-wide window ornament pole from one end to the other and hanging different boards, making a conditioning reiteration impact.
15. Receive the Roman Shade. Roman shades are the ideal arrangement when floor-to-roof curtains are impossible .Our preferred sort of shade is the casual Roman. The outcome is in every case agelessly chic.
16. Conceal the Hardware. There are sure cases where curtains look better mounted within the window outline. While outside mounting is most normal, which means when the shade bar is set outside of the window outline and can cause a window to seem bigger, there are different occasions when it looks best to hide the equipment in the window outline in the roof for a moderate look. This little detail can hugy affect the appearance of a space. Think: Outside mount for a sumptuous look and more full inclusion, or inside mount for a sleeker, increasingly present day feel.

Hello! I was wondering if you had any tips on making the duelist outfits from rgu. I want to cosplay Miki but I dont know where to start because I've never made a jacket like that before
Hello there!
For making Duelist jackets, you’ll need a few things – mostly, a good pattern (and a few basic tailoring skills), good fabric choice, knowledge of welt pockets, and the ability to apply bias tape.
I drafted my own pattern for Juri, but for a character like Miki, I think that something similar to a Civil War uniform pattern would work. You’ll have to make some modifications, but it’s a good base if you blend the waist seam into the rest of the pattern. Fit and proportion are critical to making these ridiculous outfits look good, so be sure to shape the jacket to your own body. Do at least one mockup to make sure that the fit and length are good before cutting into your good fabric. The linked pattern has shaping seams in the back, which will help get that 90s anime silhouette.
For fabric choice, be sure to use a woven material with some structure. Any kind of mid to bottomweight suiting that isn’t too floppy will work here. I used a bottomweight cotton sateen for Juri’s jacket (and polyester crepe for the pants/arm detailing). Twill is another good option. I’d recommend natural fibers as much as possible because you will be very warm.
For some of the detailing, thankfully Miki has probably the easiest epaulets of the group – these can be made of interfaced fabric, trimmed, and button on (you can make those big gold buttons functional). The sleeve patch and the triangles at the collar can be appliqued on. I’d recommend a material that doesn’t fray for this – I used gold pleather for both Juri and Utena for the triangles, and the same gold pleather for Juri’s arm detailing. If you are making the pants, save out some extra fabric for the blue on the sleeve, and if not, try to match it as closely as possible at the fabric store. the rope can be storebought, or storebought and dyed if you can’t find the color (look for 100% rayon so you don’t have to worry about polyester dyes). Look in the home decor section for that. I made my finial out of a bead and polymer clay. I also made my rose holder out of polymer clay and wire, and that attaches to the inside of the pocket with pin blanks (they poke through the pocket and the pins are on the inside of the pocket, with two loops of 1/8″ elastic in there to hold the rose stem in place better).
For the front opening, I went canon with Juri and did a million little hooks and eyes. I do not recommend this unless you’re a masochist. Use a separating invisible zipper, and just hook the top.
I made my Juri cuffs functional, but Miki’s are a weird design, since they have red trim at both the top and the hand end. If you are confident, you can do functional cuffs with this, but if you aren’t, sew a self-lined tube of interfaced fabric (so that the lining and outside are the same material), attach this to the sleeve, and just sew the buttons on top.
Bias Tape Hell is a thing. I made all my bias tape (not as hard as it looks if you have a bias tape maker), though storebought is also fine. Here’s a tutorial on how to apply it.
Welt pockets are actually easier than they look, but I highly recommend doing a practice run before you do the real thing, since it’s not entirely intuitive. I think this is the tutorial I used. If that’s too intimidating (though I recommend at least trying), you can possibly just trim the pocket in red bias tape that’s folded over the edges (and with the raw edges tucked underneath at the ends), though it won’t look as clean or be as correct.
You may want to interface the whole thing. I believe I did with my Juri jacket, though it’s lined and I’m not home to look at it to double check.
I think that should about cover it. If you have any more questions or questions about a specific part, feel free to ask! :]

Magic Made By Hand
One of the many unique benefits of being a part of The Jewel Riders Archive is discovering never before seen products and hearing stories about the making of one of our favorite series! An aspect of our roles that we love is having the opportunity to interact with the fandom! We absolutely love to hear stories about childhood memories or why you love Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders. A perfect blend of all of these are the recent interviews we've been so privileged to have completed with Greg Autore, artistic director for the show. His insight has been instrumental in helping us to better shape the story of the creation of Jewel Riders, and to share with you so many stories and products of toys and ideas that never came to fruition! We asked you, and hopefully those never before released images jogged your memory of the toys you may have made in your youth. RONNIE: I think a toy that everyone seems to have made were the Enchanted Jewels. Who didn't want at jewel?! But it was the manner in which each of you designed and crafted your unique magical jewel that truly inspires us. I want to tell you the story behind my set of jewels. You can learn more about my story in our about page, but for now let's talk about the wonderful memories I have of my grandpa and I. Grandpa Joe was always keeping busy! I think it was more of a retreat from Grandma, but you would often find him in his work garage outside. Inside the garage there was a treasure trove of artistic pieces that he crafted by hand. He loved to paint by number, and he would make wooden frames to showcase the artwork. It was combining the paint by number and the woodcarving that gave me the idea of how to create the jewel set. One summer we started with the basic Enchanted Jewels – Sun Stone, Moon Stone, and Heart Stone... and it just grew from there! I first used either a trading card or a still image from the series to draw out what the jewel looked like. I transferred my illustration onto a block of wood. Grandpa took the piece of wood and delicately, and in the instance of the snowflake and some others, very intricately cut out the shape. Then using the vast selection of acrylic paints, I painted each Jewel to be almost the exact color from the show. To the Enchanted Jewels, I used a glitter paint coating to add an extra layer of "magic" to the jewel. And we didn't stop with the Enchanted Jewels, or even the Crown Jewels or Wizard Jewels! Grandpa even helped me make Merlin's staff and the One Jewel! We never did make a Jewel Box though… I wanted to. Grandpa also helped me make a wooden Crystal Carriage for my favorite Tamara doll. He measured the dolls to ensure that they would fit inside of the carriage, we designed a heart door and heart finial for the top of the carriage. And from mom's sewing bin, I found red cloth to use as curtains. I used Ninjara, the white snow leopard from the Tenko and the Guardians of the Magic doll line, to pull the carriage in place of the bear. Ironically enough, along with my favorite line of 90's Disney Princess dolls, Greg helped to create and design the Tenko dolls too. It is really fascinating how so many of these toys and shows are interconnected! Chris had this to say: When I was young, I didn't get all that many toys, especially action figures. But for Christmas and Birthdays I would often get a Lego set. My favorites were those from the Castle subline, which could often double for mythical adventures, including of course Jewel Riders. I had a set of riders I made from horses and random people parts and armor to match each of the six Jewel Riders. They would have lots of adventures beyond the show, and later sets I asked for would fit in neatly with the Jewel Riders-themed play. Friend of the site Lisa also had homemade memories to share with us... I have good news! My mom came through on finding the picture of me dressed as Tamara. It's a little embarrassing because it's a costume I made entirely by myself when I was 8 or 9, so it isn't very good. I did buy and cut up the fabric for the top half, but the skirt was just an old girl scout skirt that I cut to look closer to the shape of Tamara's. The arm bands were made of construction paper, and I had my posterboard Heart Stone, but you can't see it very well in the picture since I was trying to pose with my hand on it, so it covers up a lot of it. It definitely pales in comparison to the costumes I made when I was older and learned how to sew. Could you also share this one I made of Sofia the First to show how much I've progressed as a cosplayer? You don't have to, but it would be cool to see them next to each other since that was probably the first costume I've ever made, and I did a lot more since then and have gotten much better at it. Thinking about homemade items related to Jewel Riders naturally got us thinking about cosplay. Some kids were lucky enough to have either the pre-made Gwen costume, or costumes made from the sewing patterns. Others had to wait a bit longer to dress up as their favorite characters. We scoured the web and came up with several amazing groups and solo cosplay acts. These photos taken by Lionboogy were found on the ACParadise.com site. This solo Gwen by X-gifseiya is great! We were enchanted by this lovely French group headed by cosplayer Zedrielle and Nikita cosplay! We also found several other Jewel Riders cosplay pictures including in-progress shots of people's costumes! Does that have you all thinking about your next costume for Halloween or cosplay adventure? If you'd like to be a Jewel Rider (or anything else, really) here's your chance! $1.8 Million Homes in California
Redlands | $1.7995 Million
An 1888 Victorian with eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms in two units; a two-bedroom, two-bathroom carriage house; and a one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage; on a 0.79-acre corner lot
This house, known as Gray Gables, was built in redwood as a private residence. It was later incorporated into the grounds of the Wissahickon Inn, once a stopping place for notables like Gloria Vanderbilt and Eleanor Roosevelt on their way to Palm Springs, 45 miles southeast. (Los Angeles is 66 miles west.) After falling into disrepair and almost being razed, the property was restored, beginning in 2016, as a family complex, with a rebuilt foundation, new mechanicals and antique and period reproduction details. It is in a historic district two miles south of the city center.
Size: 3,600 square feet (in the main house)
Price per square foot: $499
Indoors: A 2,000-square-foot veranda with intricate woodwork based on the original wraps around three sides of the main house. Inside are engineered hardwood floors (as well as sculpted carpet in the first-floor bedroom) and 10-foot ceilings in most rooms.
The living room has eight-foot-high casement windows with bronze bolts and a Victorian reproduction bronze globe chandelier and wall sconces. Down the hall is a dining room with an arched ceiling, acorn chandelier and Dutch door. It opens to an eat-in kitchen with marble-topped bead-board cabinets, a white subway tile backsplash, a cast-iron sink and cast-iron light fixtures. The six-burner gas cooktop and electric convection oven are set in a reproduction antique stove.
The first-floor bedroom suite includes a Victorian chandelier suspended from an 11-foot ceiling and a large closet with custom shelves. The private bathroom, with its open shower, is ADA-compliant.
The original staircase has been stained to match the flooring. Decorated with globe and acorn finials, it is lit by a vintage pendant lamp.
The three upstairs bedrooms include a master suite with cathedral windows offering mountain views and a bathroom with a penny-round-tiled shower, a toilet closet with a bidet and a reproduction Victorian vanity with a double sink and an antique mirror. There is also a guest suite, a bedroom with a gable window, an office with an industrial pendant light and a hall bathroom with a claw-foot tub and an industrial pipe light fixture with Edison bulbs. The second floor contains a laundry room with a gas-dryer hookup, as well.
A second unit of about 1,700 square feet with a private entrance occupies the basement. It has three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a living room with French doors that open to a front patio and a kitchen with white Shaker cabinets and granite countertops.
Also on the property are a two-bedroom, two-bathroom carriage house that is approximately 1,100 square feet on two floors and an 800-square-foot cottage with one bedroom and one bathroom.
Outdoor space: Wrought-iron fencing encircles the property and incorporates an electric driveway gate. The grounds are planted with roses, bougainvillea, cypress, lavender bushes and orange, apricot and loquat trees. There are three notable mature specimen trees: a live oak, a pine and a palm. The yard includes statuary and a bocce court.

Routes 101 to the west and 280 to the east facilitate commuting to Silicon Valley.
Size: 1,457 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,232
Indoors: The main level has hardwood floors and shiplap-paneled walls and ceiling. On the right side, as you face the back, is a living room with a bay window and built-in bookshelves, followed by an open dining area. Both rooms (and the rest of the home) have been freshly painted and include new lighting.
Immediately to the left is a guest bedroom. Beyond it are a staircase (a walk-in closet built under the stairs serves as a pantry) and a U-shaped kitchen with grooved cabinets and white-tile countertops and backsplashes. Los Angeles | $1.795 Million
A midcentury-modern house built in 1958, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, on a 0.3-acre lot
This home is in upper Benedict Canyon, in the Beverly Hills Post Office district (with a 90210 ZIP code). The area is a 16-mile drive from downtown Los Angeles and is fringed with nature and its creatures (owls, coyotes and the occasional bobcat). It is two miles below Mulholland Drive and close to a number of hiking trails.
Size: 1,530 square feet
Price per square foot: $1,173
Indoors: Marvin Beck, a local architect, designed the house for himself and his wife. A later owner opened the kitchen to the living room and installed two sets of accordion-fold glass doors in back to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. The current owner renovated the master bathroom last year, using slate tile on the walls and a Carrara marble vanity top.
The front door (reached by an exterior flight of stairs) is clad in tongue-and-groove slats that are echoed inside, starting with a floating closet in the foyer that has no visible hardware and opens with a push.
The living room includes a skylight, a wall of built-in drawers and shelves and a fireplace with a combed-basalt surround and hearth. The millwork is echoed in a low partition wall and in the cabinetry in the adjacent kitchen. The golden color is offset by royal blue Viking appliances, patterned glass backsplash tile and honed black granite countertops.
The master is the only room in the house that does not have direct access to the outdoors. It does have book-matched paneled walls and a mirrored closet extending across the entire length.
The guest bedroom has a slatted closet with invisible hardware that runs the length of one wall; it has use of a bathroom with a clerestory window and a walk-in shower faced in the original buttercup-yellow tile. A third bedroom was converted into an open den. Sliding-glass doors in both guest rooms lead to the backyard.
The lower level includes a one-car garage, laundry area and storage.
Outdoor space: The flat, spacious property (unusual in this hilly area) is landscaped with plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. A brick patio beyond the folding-glass doors is partially covered by a latticed canopy. Stone-and-gravel paths lead to seating areas in the terraced gardens.
Taxes: $22,438 (estimated)

Customers in search of a top quality flagpole will find their answer with an aluminum internal halyard flagpole with a winch. An Internal Halyard Flagpole with a winch has the cable on the inside of the flagpole, thus averting potential flag theft. Internal Halyard Flagpoles with Winch are made of Alloy 6063-T6 aluminum tubing with uniform conical taper and feature sanded satin finish (one of six other painted finishes), revolving truck assembly, ground set foundation and matching spun aluminum cast collar. Internal Halyard Flagpoles
Our standard selection of internal halyard aluminum flagpoles (halyard on the inside of the pole) are available in mounted heights from 20 ft. to 80 ft. with a ground set foundation or shoe base. Internal Halyard Aluminum flagpoles are great for commercial flagpole applications to prevent flag theft by having a winch with a locking door. Internal halyards have a stainless steel cable that runs up the center of the flagpole exiting out the top of the flagpole where the flag, weight and beaded retainer ring attach. Being that the rope is not on the outside of the flagpole, like a traditional external halyard flagpole, the ting ting sound is drastically reduced. There are two different types of Internal aluminum halyard flagpoles, the manual cam cleat that uses the rope on the inside and the winch operated flagpole that uses the stainless steel cable that requires very minimal effort. Due to the fact that the cam cleat is manual, the internal flagpole cam cleat is only available to a 40' pole to prevent injury of a heavy flag coming down to fast. The winch is available up to 80' and has a winch handle with an automatic, locking winch to prevent the flag from injuring an operator. If you're looking for the Cadillac of flagpoles, the Internal Aluminum Flagpole with winch is your answer. There isn't a higher quality aluminum flagpole you can purchase.

The Best-Dressed Windows and How to Get Them
Hanging curtains or shades can have a transformative effect on a room, adding warmth and style to a drab space or hiding unfortunate views out the window. You can even create the illusion that you have more space than you really do by exaggerating the appearance of ceiling height.
But figuring out which window treatment is right for your space can be tricky. What if there’s no room for curtains on either side of the French doors in your tiny apartment? What’s the best way to play up the lovely leaded glass in those prewar casement windows while keeping out the draft? How do you gracefully cover a bay window?
We asked interior designers to share their tricks for dressing up a range of window styles.
Casement Windows
With a mechanism that allows them to open out like doors — and let in lots of light and fresh air — “casement windows are really very versatile,” said Michelle Morgan Harrison, an interior designer in New Canaan, Conn.
If you have casement windows, she said, Roman shades are an option. She recommended mounting them at least six inches above the casing, so that when the shade is up it doesn’t block the light.
But “my recommendation is to go with draperies,” she added, “as you get the full view of the window when open.”
That’s what she did for a library in Greenwich, Conn., where she chose a linen from Osborne & Little in a blue-and-gray ombre, to complement the color of the walls. For the hardware, she used a clear Lucite rod with rings, brackets and end caps in polished nickel.
A general rule, she said, is to set the rods six inches above the frame for smaller windows; eight to 10 inches above for a double-width window; and up to a foot above for larger windows. You should also avoid pushing the drapery past the window casing, she noted, as “it looks better when the drapes cover the casing on each side and frame the window.”
If space is tight on either side of a window, Ms. Harrison suggested using a bracket that curves back to the wall, instead of a rod that ends in a finial. This allows for the drapes to be pushed back against the wall and to clear more of the window.
Bay Windows
With bay windows, your options are more limited: You could hang stationary curtains on either side of the bay and install a shade inside each window frame, or you could hang curtains on each individual window. But if there isn’t enough room for hardware, Roman shades are the way to go.
“An advantage of Roman shades is that you do not need to have decorative or functional hardware,” said Grant K. Gibson, an interior designer in San Francisco, who opted for flat-panel shades in white linen from Clarence House for a bedroom overlooking Buena Vista Park.
“We wanted the fabric to fade into the architectural details, and matched the fabric as close as possible to the already-finished white wall color,” said Mr. Gibson, who installed the shades on the outside of the molding to make sure they blocked out as much of the light as possible when closed. “Your eye would have too many places to look if there had been a color or pattern on the window treatments.”
Postwar Windows
What if your windows aren’t that interesting, as in many postwar apartments?
“Use floor-to-ceiling drapes, even if the window doesn’t go to the height of ceiling,” advised Alexis Alvarez, design director at Interior Marketing Group. “It will draw the eye up and make windows appear bigger and ceilings appear higher.”
To liven up the postwar windows in a Greenwich Village living room, Ms. Alvarez mounted the curtain rods above the moldings and beyond their width to create the illusion of higher ceilings and wider windows. “The light-and-airy, white-linen fabric blends seamlessly with the modern aesthetic of the room,” she said.
Glass Doors
Curtains that hang straight and just graze the floor tend to work well with sliding-glass doors.
“Generally you want to avoid blocking the doors in any way for function, and also for light coming into the space,” said Jess Cooney, a designer in Great Barrington, Mass., who dressed a sliding-glass door in an open kitchen with a simple rod and patterned fabric from Robert Allen. “The overall goal was to give the sliding door behind the draperies a more formal feel and to soften the space.”
Another benefit of drapes, she noted, is that they are good at absorbing sound: “Textiles help so much for acoustics, especially in a space with an open floor plan, where noise can easily echo and bounce around.”
If you are lucky enough to have a continuous stretch of windows or doors from one end of a room to the other, adding lightweight drapery panels between the doors or windows will help create the illusion of an unbroken expanse of glass.
In a Manhattan living room with three pairs of French doors opening onto Juliet balconies, the interior designer Alexa Hampton installed simple, pleated panels in an embroidered Cowtan & Tout fabric. Then, “we layered the panels with lacquered bamboo shades,” Ms. Hampton said, “and two-tone hardware with darkened-bronze poles and antique-brass rings and finials, for a collected look.”
Oddly Shaped Windows
What about round or arched windows?
If you want the window to stand out, choose a window dressing that’s the same color or pattern as the wall, so it blends in. That’s the effect the designer Martin Brudnizki was going for in a luxury suite at the Grand Hotel Stockholm, in Sweden, which has porthole-style windows. Mr. Brudnizki used the same fabric for the wall covering and the curtains, which made the window pop.
“We had to use a special technique for the curved window treatment, which included using a center-split, full-length curtain, which is manually operated using an Italian-cord pulley system,” he said. “The curtains are pinch-pleated to the top and fixed onto an arched runner. We also lined them with blackout material, to ensure guests can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep, especially considering how light Swedish evenings can be.”
A Few Words About Fabric
No matter what type of window you’re dressing, be sure to choose fabric that has a nice draping quality, said Kevin Dumais, an interior designer in New York.
“Generally, lightweight fabrics such as linen-poly blends or wools work best, because they hang straight, they are durable and keep their shape over time,” Mr. Dumais said. “Linens woven with polyester or acrylic are terrific; the synthetic fibers help stop the linen from growing and wrinkling.
He added: “We are finding that fabric houses like Holland & Sherry and Creation Baumann are creating wonderful sheer fabrics made of Trevira or 100 percent polyester. We use these on projects with direct sunlight from south-facing windows, as the fiber content seems to resist fading and deterioration over time.”
Also, consider adding layers.
“People forget that a quantity of fabric literally softens hard materials when fabric meets up with glass,” Ms. Hampton said. “The softgoods not only help with acoustics in a space, but they act as a frame for the view outside.”
That’s something even a minimalist space could benefit from.
For one master bedroom, Ms. Hampton used silk window treatments with shirred valances and pleated side panels. “We stayed with a really neutral color palette,” she said, to keep the room elegant and clean-lined, “but decided to double up the tassel trim, to make the treatments even more lush.”
