lvl 51 affinity call — i still think about this call a lot not just because i have nightmares often too and i definitely would have called him too LMAO 😭 but because. this line... there's something so heartfelt about this exchange that i just 😭 my heart feels like it's twisting but /pos 😭

you can just. you can see how much he always wants to do for her, how much he's always wanted to do for her, even through everything that he has been doing already. bec he's been doing a lot!! so much!! it's how he's been trying to show love bc that's how it used to be!!

yet... the reality remains that things aren't how they used to be. and then he calls the him now the "worst version".

he knows. he knows that the person he is in the present isn't the person she's always had in the back of her mind, isn't the person she's familiar with, isn't the person she's the most fond of... is the person that has hurt her. he knows that she's been sensitive about the way he's been doing things, knows that sometimes the things he does doesn't make her happy.... and i think he really just... he sees it, you know? it's not something he just notices and then does nothing about... he's aware. aware that, making her happy, taking care of her like he used to... he doesn't know how to do it properly, doesn't know if he even can anymore. things are different this time. he's still learning to come to terms with that... still trying to deal with the struggles of presenting this whole self that he's very much aware of—without hurting her this time. and i think that a lot of the times :( like in this call :( he just really wants a certain reassurance from mc that he's doing something a little better...........

Much has been speculated about how long it will take Crowley to forgive Aziraphale, how Aziraphale will apologize, if it will involve the dance, etc, etc.

Thing is, I think Crowley has already forgiven Aziraphale. He never holds a grudge against him. Aziraphale is instantly forgiven. Always.

Look at him waiting by the car. He's not mad. He would take him back in a second.

He understands why Aziraphale is making the choice, even if it hurts and he disagrees with it.

I want to highlight the lines, "Nothing lasts forever." and "No, I don't suppose it does."

We know Aziraphale just means the bookshop, while Crowley's thinking about their relationship. But something I think is really important here to note that I see people miss is that Crowley knows what Aziraphale meant. But the words resonated, encapsulating the impasse they've reached, and really Crowley is talking to himself with that line.

"I understand," he says. He knows Aziraphale, understands what he meant, what his motivations are, and why he's doing this. He wishes he wouldn't, and he can't support it, but this is who Aziraphale is, and there is nothing to forgive.

So, tangentially, regardless of how/if Aziraphale decides to apologize, Crowley won't make him do the dance.

For Crowley, the apology dance was only ever flirting. He never actually needed Aziraphale to apologize for anything, and if it does happen, it will only be after they've already reconciled and are ready to flirt again.

i think the other thing that makes this ep not quite "work" is it isn't... i don't know, it must be aware of this, but it feels like it isn't aware of The Metaphor the alien plot is doing / saying about our main characters, and it doesn't take a second to truly show that to them. It is showing the chuldur stealing people's identities and doing some good ol' ~disaster tourism~, it tells us what they are doing is wrong, we're expected to be shocked and appalled by what they've done to ruby. but then there's not really a beat about how the doctor and co do the same thing every day (going to other times and taking the piss out of other ppl's histories / lives, then going off). and in the end even the contemporary human ruby "befriends" turns out to be a chuldur as well. so there's not a single regular human character developed in this.

then there's the whole proposal scene where the doctor and rogue "act" as well during that whole thing, which don't get me wrong was fun as hell, was a thrill to see them play w/ their prejudices, and as I said in my post the dialogue was very meaty for their particular characters.... but on the area of *theme* for this *episode*.... they're just doing the same thing as the chuldur. it feels like no one cares about all the people that are being murdered around them (nor the writers, who don't develop them), just their own fun.

and like the thing with doctor who episodes is, it's not enough to have a high body count, for it to be shocking.... you have to actually give those characters you kill a bit of depth/humanity/relatability, for the death to actually mean anything. ex: in end of the world, bc they show us the blue plumber and rose connecting for 1 little scene, we do actually care about her being murdered by the mini-war of the worlds robots, and care about what cassandra is doing. like the episode says "isn't the chuldur horrific? they are taking actual human beings as set dressing for their fun / entertainment!!" but then... the writing does the same thing by not giving death any kind of gravity / weight.

basically it feels like this B plot of the aliens wasn't properly aligned with the A plot of the rogue and doctor romancing. it works on its own (mostly, tho I still feel there's an element of depth missing in rogue)... but not with all the other aspects. which sucks bc the episode had all the ingredients to truly Bring It Home.

I just noticed that in the scene that Hephaistion finds out that Alexander hid his father's illness from him, he tells Alexander to stop manipulating him. He also thinks Alexander doesn't even recognize what he's doing anymore...

It got me thinking, that Alexander trusted Hephaistion more than anyone is clear from history, but what about the opposite ?

So of course about the historical man it's a bit hard to tell, but what about your character?

Could Hephaistion fully trust Alexander? To me, somewhat ironically the answer would be no.

He will never be able to trust Alexander the way Alexander trusts him...

It might be almost imperceptible but it would still be there, part of their complicated power dynamics.

The only other thing I'd add--mostly for those a bit appalled--is that Alexandros is a prince, descended from Herakles and Achilles. Of course the world revolves around him. It's how he was raised to think. "All [people] are created equal" is a LONG-ass way in his future. And there will always be at least a little bit of a ... gap between him and anybody else. Even Hephaistion.

(Also, he did feel quite badly later, and was sorry. His apology was genuine, which is why Hephaistion accepted it. But he's still prince. And he'd still assume Hephaistion would take an arrow for him. That's why he has the Bodyguards.)

Ok so what's a requirement you have for a potential partner that isn't the normal/expected ones like "loyalty" or "they make me laugh" or whatever.

I'll go first: they have to like dancing. Nothing formal or fancy, they just have to get and enjoy dancing as a fun human thing to do.

I was looking and I saw the fancy tin boxes like the stupid library has. So I clicked on the BoB result and it said “BRAND NEW” for… get this, a starting bid at 10 dollars with no bids as of yet. So I started the first one at 12 dollars. Four days later I got a notification saying I won and I got it for 10 DOLLARS and FIVE DOLLARS SHIPPING!

Then yesterday I saw the Pacific blu-ray tin box set for 20 dollars and free shipping, with two people watching it. YOU CAN BET I SNAGGED THAT THING UP LIKE IT WAS THE LAST CAN OF CRANBERRY SAUCE ON THE EVE OF THANKSGIVING.

Do you know how much these things would be been if I had found them at Barnes & Noble?? Maybe sixty bucks, or seventy with these rotten Bidenomics. BUT I GOT THEM FOR HALF OF THAT!!! I’m so excited!!

Now if only my beloved masters of the air would be put on blu ray😭
