Jimin, A Man of Messaging 📝

Throughout the time that I have been watching and, dare I say, studying Jimin, I have noticed that he has been executing an extensive messaging plan. BTS is a group that leans heavily on messaging through their songs, videos, and album series (which is part of the fun in being their fan), but Jimin takes it to another level on a personal front.

The job of an artist is to express the feelings in a song, dance, or painting, but Jimin’s messages are often more personal. He often also shares information about himself.  It is as if he wants to share who he is or what he believes, so people can know him better or understand him better. He is often accused of making himself too vulnerable to haters by sharing so much of his heart, but I feel it is in Jimin’s nature to want to reveal his heart to people.

During the pandemic quarantine, Jimin really struggled as a person and an artist because he wasn’t able to interact more directly with fans.  He is an emotionally-intelligent extrovert who has a great need to connect sincerely with others. In order to connect in this way, he likely feels he should be seen for who he really is and not just the facade that’s been created as an idol. 

Being an idol, Jimin likely cannot directly say most of what he wishes he could, so he often indirectly expresses himself intricately through visual & musical means, such as images, numbers, melodies, and dance. It is a clever way to express himself to those who want to know him, while those who don’t want to know him are simply unaware.  He could choose not to share the information at all, but I feel Jimin has things he wants people to know about him, so he uses images that reveal information, or messages, to those observing.

Another reason for the indirect messaging could be that Jimin has said that he does not feel he is good with words, so his chosen methods of expression may be more comfortable or clear for him.  He may also just find pleasure in expressing himself through art - and by art, I mean through his music, presentation, and dance.

What started me thinking of this topic right now is Jimin’s current solo exhibition that is called The Truth Untold.

This exhibition is a tribute to and display of the efforts, products, and achievements of Jimin’s solo projects: FACE and MUSE. The exhibition, as well as his entire MUSE theme, is centered around the fictional smeraldo flower from BTS’s Love Yourself series from 2017.  At that time BTS’s vocal line sang a song called The Truth Untold, which is a heart-wrenching, emotional song that speaks of the anguish of not being able to tell the truth about something in your heart. The flower represented that hidden truth. These ideas must have really touched Jimin because he remembered that concept and pulled it from the past to use it in his current solo project. (Jimin said it almost became the name of the album.) He had something he wanted to express in line with that idea, so he used a symbol and story that fans already knew, and were connected to, in order to express his message and make it more impactful. Those who are not steadfast fans would still see beautiful displays and expressive images. In other words, “If you know, you know.”, and if you don’t know, you’ll learn or just be visually impressed anyway. This is true of all the messaging Jimin does. Much is missed by some and those who have paid attention and know Jimin pick up on a good deal of the content, feelings, and ideas he is attempting to share. He’s hoping fans will make connections and hear the complete story he is laying out with all the clues.  Those of us watching may not always interpret the conclusions 100% correctly, but we do know there is detailed purpose in what he is doing.

There are many different ways Jimin displays messages. One way that I’ve already posted about is Jimin’s tattoos and how each one has a specific meaning to Jimin. He has chosen tattoos that also allow fans to make connections to other familiar things related to Jimin, BTS, and his life.  His “13” tattoo is for his date of birth and BTS’s debut.  “NeverMind” was inspired by Suga’s song (Intro: Never Mind)  that expressed the plea to push on even when things are difficult. “7” is, of course, his friendship tattoo shared with the other members of BTS.  His remaining tattoos are for other purposeful meanings as well. They are also mostly connected to BTS themes that impacted Jimin in some way.

When BTS was tasked with individually creating their own photofolios, where each member got to design the theme and concepts of their photographs, Jimin was deliberate and meticulous about every detail, so it would clearly portray what he intended to communicate through the pictures.

Notice he has words and symbols drawn on his neck, chest, hands and arms for this photobook shoot, just like he did years ago for an ARMY membership kit photoshoot (2019).

Based on the words and symbols seen in both projects, observant fans can tell that Jimin himself chose these related drawings. Jimin is very consistent with the information he has been sharing, and those who pay attention can develop an understanding of what it is he is trying to ‘say’, reveal, or express. It is also a very good technique of messaging: Have a consistent message that you share repeatedly to ensure the message is picked up on and perhaps heard and remembered.

There is also Jimin’s Filter Performance in 2020, where he wrote words that meant “alluring” and “enticing” on the palms of his hands. These words fit the message of the song, which was explaining how idols’ images are created by the fans and for the fans in order to delight and satisfy them.

Jimin’s use of writing or tattooing actual words and symbols on his body to convey messages has gone on for a long time. Early in BTS’s career Jimin also had “NeverMind” and a Chinese expression drawn on his body for performances too. He eventually got “NeverMind” tattooed in place. It would stand to reason that the messages Jimin chose to permanently tattoo on himself are the most significant ones to him. 

If you’re still not convinced that Jimin is intentionally messaging, consider that Jimin’s tattoos are mostly placed in areas that can be seen by others so the messages can be viewed. Since we saw Jimin several times wearing only swim trunks during the Are You Sure? travel series🤭, we can be mostly sure that he has no other hidden tattoos. He wanted these messages to be seen often, even when wearing clothes.  In spite of the frequent use of this direct method of having specific words or images on display, Jimin uses several other ways to more indirectly express ideas and information too. 

Jimin pays attention to details in order to manage the information he wants to share. He takes the opportunity to use his clothing, jewelry, hair colors and cuts, and makeup to make an impression that helps to draw attention to his additional message. He sometimes wears clothes that have pictures, words, and colors to express some sort of information or connection. These items tell ideas, display emotions, and show something (or someone) he feels is relevant. They also create a tone that adds to the artistry of the performance as well as adding to information about Jimin and his beliefs.

Jimin trained in contemporary dance, which is perfect for a man of messaging. It is a form of dance that uses abstract body movements to express emotions and feelings. However, Jimin had to learn to adjust his training to the type of dance that was required as an idol, and the combination of all of these dance forms became Jimin’s trademark dance style that mesmerizes but that truly captures and transmits the meanings of songs, feelings, and information that are intended.

I have really only highlighted Jimin’s intentional messaging throughout his career and personal life.  He is so detailed that it would be overwhelming to list all the connections and items that Jimin purposely put into his work and actions. I can’t imagine the time and thought it takes for him to continually and consistently include these details.  It is no wonder Jimin’s solo project took longer than he feels it should have; While I’m amazed he was able to do it all in that short amount of time.

Jimin has always been involved in crafting his own BTS solo songs & performances, as well as some BTS group songs, but in his current solo work, he fully participated in writing, producing, and composing the songs and designing the performances down to small details.  Each of his solo albums was created to tell a full story from beginning to end. He had a definite narrative he wanted to reveal.  I have said before that Jimin has a way of writing lyrics that allow different listeners to hear different, sincere messages from their own perspectives.  The lyrics and visuals certainly included many connections to his past and present but that also weaved a story that revealed more about Jimin and highlighted the emotions he wanted to evoke. 

Jimin also includes messaging when simply posting comments to fans or BTS members or during his Lives.  He sometimes uses repeated numbers for specific purposes. While I don’t get into the details of the numbers theory, some of the numbers, by way of dates and times, show up so often that I believe there has to be something to it.  (If you’re interested, @KanMom51 does very detailed reports on how the numbers are repeatedly and consistently used.) Jimin is very intentional and often nothing is accidental or coincidental in his work or life.😉 I always say the proof is in the repetition for Jimin’s messages. Through the years he has been very consistent and repetitive about certain messages he shares.

If you’re still in doubt that Jimin is mindful of messaging, Jimin recently confirmed that he is well aware of the fans’ attention to his messages. In a photo shoot sketch for MUSE, Jimin said he was intrigued to see what we (the fans) would interpret about what he had left behind while he is away serving in the military. He said he was hoping that we would get the wrong idea and misunderstand some of the contained messages. (I’m still sorting out that comment.🤔) Jimin has nothing to worry about because BTS’s fandom is so fractured now that the different factions can’t agree on much these days and often have vastly different views after watching the same footage.  Still, I feel people, who have watched Jimin for years, will get a good amount of what he intended, even some of the items he hoped we’d misunderstand. 😏

In any case, if you pay attention, Jimin has so many layers of art and communication going on with all that he does, in work and in life. He uses what some would call “coded messages” to share information about himself, his thoughts, his relationships, and his beliefs. Consider watching or rewatching, listening or relistening to his work and actions, on and off the stage, and look a little closer.  Even if you feel you discovered an idea or meaning the first time you viewed the performance, video, photo, or Live, you could likely get new information each time you take another look or listen. Jimin really has messages and meaning in every crack and crevice. He is a true man of messaging. What has his work and life said to you?

Steve - I'm not jealous (he totally is) and please

Once upon a time (in 2017), I reblogged that dialogue prompt post for the first time and someone asked for this prompt + Steve meeting Bucky's ex. I started it and never finished it.

MOST of this is from that original post and I just tacked on the ending, finally. Enjoy~

Also, I sort of changed the prompted dialogue a bit? It's along the same vein, just not 100% the same.

Her name was Ilaria and she was beautiful.

Steve first saw her in glimpses through a crowded street. Bucky hadn’t shown him a picture–hadn’t even described her, beyond mentioning that she was Italian and they’d met because their fathers were business partners once upon a time–but he just knew.

The woman standing outside the restaurant couldn’t be anyone other than Bucky’s ex-girlfriend. She was a tall, full figured woman in sleek heels and a slinking, off-the shoulder dress that hugged her ample curves in all the right places. Unblemished, tawny skin and dark hair coiffed to perfection, she wore gloves as dark as her dress on slender hands and diamond jewelry that would’ve looked gaudy on anyone else but on her, it was elegance itself.

She looked like a model on her way to a gala rather than a woman waiting to have dinner with her ex and his new beau.

The look of cool sophistication so artfully arranging her face melted away the moment she spotted them. Her smoky eyes lit up, a genuine smile stretching blood red lips.

“Oh, cuore mio, there you are,” she said, holding out her hands.

Bucky smiled back at her, taking her hands his own and holding them to his chest. The look he gave her was full of warmth and fondness.

“I haven’t been your cuore in a long time, I’m afraid,” he said, bringing her hands up to kiss her gloved knuckles. “I belong to someone else now.”

Steve had been watching the exchange with a growing sense of unease. He wasn’t prepared to have this woman’s gaze on him, but suddenly, he was the center of her attention.

“Ilaria,” Bucky said, “this is my sweetheart, Steve. Steve, this is Ilaria.”

“Um.” He pasted on a smile that he didn’t truly feel. “Hi? It’s nice to meet you.”

Ilaria turned down his offer of a handshake, pushing it away with a scoff and instead hugging him. It should’ve felt stilted and awkward, but it wasn’t.

“Steve,” she said, a light accent lilting her words. “I have heard so much about you, it is so good to finally meet you!”

She pulled away, but didn’t let go, holding him by the shoulders as he appraised him.

“You are gorgeous,” she said, cupping his cheeks. “My, such an angioletto!”

Steve blushed, ducking his head. He felt anything but when standing next to someone like her.

“Look at this blush.” She touched his cheek, smiling. “I could just eat you. Are you sure you want to be with a grump like James, angioletto? I would bring you home immediately.”

He’s not a grump, Steve wanted to say, but before he could, a big, warm hand pressed into his lower back.

“I’m afraid not,” Bucky interjected, tucking Steve close to him. “This one’s mine.”

Steve melted into the embrace, his entire body warming at the words. He couldn’t stop himself from turning a shy, pleased smile up at Bucky.

She watched it all, a sweet, satisfied smile playing on her lips.

“Yes,” she said. “I can see that.”

In Steve’s eyes, she was perfect. 

It didn’t escape his notice that she was also different from him in every way imaginable.

Dinner was enjoyable. The food was good and there was never a lull in conversation; Ilaria made sure of that. She talked to Steve more than she talked to Bucky, making sure that he never felt left out or excluded. For every story told about her time with Bucky, she asked Steve for one of his own.

It was a careful balance and one maintained solely out of respect for him. He appreciated that, even if this attentiveness made her even more perfect to him. There wasn’t a single thing he didn’t like about her and that made his stomach clench.

He felt clumsy, uninteresting, unworthy in comparison.

How could he ever hope to compete for Bucky’s attention, his affection, against her if she decided to take it back?

But she didn’t. She laughed and talked and although she touched Bucky more than once, her touches never lingered. In fact, she pulled her hand away a little quicker each time, as if realizing what she’d done. Her gaze always went to Steve to make sure he wasn’t upset.

At the end of the night, she hugged Steve again and kissed his cheek, laughing at Bucky’s huff.

“Stop it,” she admonished. “There’s nothing I could do to persuade him into my bed and we both know it.”

But then she did the most surprising thing of all. She turned to Steve, her expression serious.

“I would like to say goodbye to him as I did with you,” she said, gesturing to the spot where she kissed Steve. “May I?”

Steve meant to say yes. But he saw it in his mind’s eye, their embrace. Bucky’s hands on her full hips and her soft lips against his cheek, leaving the memory of them behind in a red imprint. The private smile they’d share, the way they’d look at each other as they remembered their shared history.

It was all a figment of his imagination, but it was a figment that left him feeling sick.

“No,” he blurted out before he could stop himself.

Bucky’s eyebrows shot up, the surprise showing on his face, but not Ilaria. 

Ilaria just smiled knowingly.

“Smart boy,” she said, tapping his nose. “Protect what’s yours.”

The car ride home was quiet. Bucky waited until they were alone and in their bedroom to gather Steve close.

“I’m going to ask you something,” he said, trailing fingers along Steve’s spine. “And I want you to be honest with me.”

Steve nodded.

“Were you jealous of Ilaria?”

Steve bit his lip. 

“No,” he said haltingly. “Not–not jealous.”

He didn’t think that was the right word, at least, even if the right word evaded him.

“Then what?”

His gaze dropped to where his hands rested on Bucky’s chest.

“Was it–was it better with her? Were you…happier?”

“No.”

The answer was immediate, but it wasn’t dismissive. That one word held a weight that said not only was Bucky taking the question seriously, he was answering with the same gravity that Steve had asked the question.

“No, sweetheart,” Bucky repeated. He cupped the back of Steve’s head, bringing him forward to press a soft, lingering kiss to his forehead. “Never.”

He kissed Steve again, before pulling back to look him in the face.

“You have to understand, Ilaria and I were kids when we met,” he said. “And we were barely out of our teens when we dated. But by then, we had both figured out that we liked certain things in the bedroom, and our tastes were too similar to be compatible with each other. She wasn't kidding when she said she'd love to take you home."

He smiled, playfully nipping at Steve's jaw.

"You," he said, "are catnip for the right kind of person."

Steve blushed for the millionth time that night, but this time didn't feel like a failing. He petted the lapel of Bucky's jacket.

"What happened? Between you two?"

Bucky shrugged.

"We tried it for a few months and then decided we were going to ruin a perfectly good friendship if we kept going. Neither of us wanted that, so we broke up. She was never going to be my forever. And she wasn’t ‘the one that got away,’ if that’s what you’re thinking, either.”

Steve hesitated, but he couldn’t stop himself from asking, “Is there a one that got away?”

Bucky gave him a look.

“Not unless you plan on running away from me any time soon."

He leaned down, kissing Steve so tenderly that it was suddenly hard to breathe.

“You are my forever,” he murmured. “You're the only one I've ever thought about that way. The only one I've ever loved like this."

Their lips brushed in another aching kiss.

"God, I love you, sweetheart. I love you in ways I didn’t think were possible. I need you in ways I didn’t know I could. No one compares to you, not even a little. I don’t want you ever worrying about that.”

“I–I don’t,” Steve whispered breathlessly. He really didn’t, not usually. It was just– “She’s just so perfect.”

Bucky laughed lowly.

“I have the stories and the pictures to prove otherwise,” he said, nipping at Steve’s lips. “But first…I think my baby needs to be reminded how much he means to me. What do you think?”

Steve shuddered, his head falling back as Bucky sucked at his throat.

“Yes,” he breathed. “Please.”

“Mmmm, that’s what I thought.”

Bucky bent, hoisting Steve into his arms. 

“C’mon, gorgeous, let’s go to bed.”

My favorite shows and movies that i've watched in 2023

Barbie (2023)

Always been a sucker for great production and costume design. Feminism aside, it’s so fun and smart with all the references. I just don’t like the Ken hype. He’s fun, sure, but a lot of fans are missing the point or just proving the message of the story.

Bottoms (2023)

Need more lesbian chaos as a comedy fan. Sapphic softcore is ok of course, but you know, there should be a variety of WLW cinema. Perfect also for the Y2K nostalgia. ���Bring It On’ fan here!

Nocebo (2022)

I actually watched it last year, but it was too late to be on my 2022 list. Underrated political-horror film. Underrated cast! It should’ve had the same hype with Parasite and Triangle of Sadness. For me, it was simple and well-written. The structure of the story was smart but easy to absorb.

About Us But Not About Us (2022)

The first and last single-location film that I watched was Kisaragi (2007) and I’ve been waiting for something like that since then. One of the most important things i look for a media is the script so i really enjoyed it especially when they switched characters. Very intriguing.

The Little Mermaid (2023)

Been waiting for this since 2019! I’ve been a fan of Halle Bailey since that announcement. I rarely watch things on the cinema, but it’s something i couldn’t miss. Beautiful, pure and magical. Perfect casting and amazing chemistry!

Si Chedeng At Si Apple (2017)

Another chaotic lesbian film, but make it Filipino! It was funny and bloooody just like Bottoms so if you liked it then you should try this one. Not a spoiler, but part of the plot: That lady in yellow killed her abusive husband.

Maria Clara At Ibarra (2022)

I haven’t finished it yet! But i would recommend it! Brought back my trust and love for Filipino series. If you are not Filipino, it’s a good way to learn our history. Fun, written with passion + great set and costume design.

Mga Lihim Ni Urduja (2023)

After Maria Clara at Ibarra, i became more interested in Filipino series especially with historical fiction. This one is so underrated and empowering! Has the prettiest and hottest cast tbh and a queer undertone *wink*

Betcin (2021)

Takura-kun & Amagi-kun - This has lots of the Japanese traits that I don’t always love but I did find myself warmed by it. It’s basically two boys being teenage and idiotic whilst learning how to love and be loved. I really liked the two besties in this. 3/5 (13/3/24)

Although I love you, and you? - Apparently this is wildly different from the manga so people were hating on it but, with zero knowledge of the manga, I have to say I enjoyed it. Very silly but had a nice emotional depth to it and Sakae & Soga made for interesting leads. Also loved the little found family of friends and bar regulars. 3 ½/5 (15/3/24)

One Room Angel - This could really only be Japanese. Beautiful, bittersweet and healing this does come with a lot of trigger warnings but if you can stomach it’s darker elements it’s really worth the journey. 4/5 (26/3/24)

Love is science (BL cut) - Just about an hour on YouTube this was delightful. Undoubtedly would not have enjoyed all the different het storylines but these two should have been a show on their own. Just lush. (No rate because it’s a cut. 28/3/24)

Senpai this can’t be love - Errm. Elements I really liked, and I don’t think it’s anywhere near as bad as some make it out to be, but it did have a very naff ending and they deserved a better kiss. These two were cute but probably not one I’ll reach to rewatch. 3/5 (30/3/24)

WaterBoyy - I really only watched this because I’m a dumbass with completionist tendencies. It’s a show? The story and script are absolutely insane. There is so much het nonsense, which I entirely skipped, weird dated language and extremely 2017 dubcon. I can give a lot of old shows a pass for being of their time but this is bad even by 2017 standards. I’ll give it a half point for being moderately well acted. But that’s it. 1/2 (1/4/24)

Jun & Jun - Enjoyed most of this. Episodes 5 & 6 felt a little redundant. Great kisses, much higher heat than standard for a K BL. Would have loved more from the manager & idol pairing, they had an interesting history and I’d like to have seen them a little more developed. I could understand why no man could resist Lee Jun’s face, a 100% cutie. 3/5 (3/4/24)

Love is better the second time around - Much to love about this one. The acting all round was stunning, Aloha as Senpai’s bitchy assistant was hilarious and I need him in a main BL role again soon, the leads were able to tell whole stories in subtle facial expressions. I think the end was satisfying but I did feel like it could have used 8 episodes instead of 6. 4/5 (10/4/24)

Unknown - Quite the surprise. I’m a little hesitant with the pseudo incest, brother lover whatever the hell you want to call it trope. But this was done beautifully well. A mild melodrama with slice of life and found family at its core this is wholly worth your time and I loved it a lot. 5/5 (20/4/24)

We Best Love (1) - I definitely did enjoy this but it also didn’t overly wow me. Shu Yi is my perfect brand of arrogant stupidity wrapped up in a pissed off little cat package so he was an easy and delightful sell for me. Also obsessed with the cousin doctor. Sam Lin and Yu have extremely good chemistry and I’m excited to watch the second series. 3 ½/5 (29/4/24)

Two Worlds - This was silly and pulpy from the get go and stayed that way. The holes have holes in this and the ending was very expected but, having said all this, I still very much enjoyed myself. Wandee knows that mindless pulp & MaxNat are a great combo and truly it is. Would make an easy, delicious spam. 3/5 (16/5/24)

Boys be brave - This felt more Japanese than Korean in some parts? Lots of character examination and broken boys being stubborn. (100% more so in the secondary pairing which really never got explored enough for my tastes.) Overall I found this very enjoyable and it didn’t entirely fluff its ending up. 3 ½/5 (16/5/24)

23.5 - I don’t think this is without its issues but the things it did well I feel it did really well. The teens in this were authentically stupid and all their problems were also accurately teen. Ignore reviews telling you the writing is bad, it isn’t, it’s just extremely specifically teen. None of the problems the girls have are relatable for adults honestly but if you’re someone who never outgrew your teen angst or is just able to remember that period well you’ll enjoy this. Milk & Love were superb as was the entire cast. I’d love more light GL stories like this one and less melodrama and sadness. 3 ½/5 (24/5/24)

My Opinions on the designs for the fearsome four in Ducktales 2017!

I think these aren't the most ✨ORIGINAL✨ opinions on the 2017 designs for the fearsome four in the "Let's get dangerous" episode. But I'll do it anyways. (Cause Darkwing has my brain 24/7)

Friendly reminder: this is just my opinion and you're 100% allowed to disagree and tell me what you think, what you agree and what you disagree with and tell me your own opinion on them! With that being said. I'll start my crazy ramblings.

While Quackerjack and Megavolt didn't change at all (honestly, they look amazing in the Ducktales 2017 art style) I love how well they fit in with the art style of the show and how good they look. Again, they may not have changed anything. But I love them anyways.

Quackerjack

I like Quackerjack's now EXPRESSIVE eyebrows and the fact I can finally tell where his face is in the mask. His eyes used to be really close to each other, I have a hard time drawing his face sometimes and how to shape it, when I use the 2017 design for reference it actually gets easier.

And please.

The sparkle of joy someone could get by seeing Michael bell reprise his role as the insane and extremely hilarious quackerjack. The mix of 2D with 3D looked so nice and honestly I just genuinely love Quackerjack's insane laughs

I just have a liking for insane characters and jesters in general. It's a habit lol

MegaVolt.

When you hear his voice, you can tell that it's not Megavolt's original voice actor doing his voice, but the new one did an amazing job voicing him.

I kinda wish we get to see more of him. As I really like MegaVolt as a character in the original show, as he is really relatable (haha, laugh at the dude that relates to villains.) and how fun he was with how PARANOID he can be when being around water (imagine the heart attack he had when meeting Liquidator for the first time lol they would have had an interesting dynamic if they had the chance to interact more.) out of all the characters, he surely had too little screentime in let's get dangerous alongside Bushroot. But they had to do so much in only less than an hour, so I completely get it.

Sorry I don't have much to say about Quackerjack and Megavolt, they just didn't change that much compared to the other two... Speaking of them.

Bushroot.

They did an amazing job giving Bushroot that Zombie like design, as well as making him a silent villain in respect of his voice actor, who sadly passed away. (Huge respect for that.)

I love the colour pallete used for him here, as now a zombie, his colour pallete is more "faded away" compared to the vivid colours in his original design and I honestly like it! I like it a lot! It's a interesting change of character for Bushroot that I genuinely like, but sadly, not explored that much.

I honestly love this design and I can easily see the different outcomes the Bushroot centered episodes would have taken with Bushroot looking like this. (Especially beauty and the beet. Rhonda's reaction would have been completely different towards Reginald after becoming the plant zombie) Comparing that to original Bushroot, you can see that it is a bit of an improvement, plus the characterization would be completely different.

(am I the only one who gets weirded out when people portray 1991 Bushroot as a twink who can't do anything for himself? (Especially in the Liquiroot ship... Or any Bushroot ship in general, some of y'all take the bottom and top a bit too far. Jesus Christ.) Y'all know that every villain (Bushroot included) almost killed Gosalyn multiple times, right? He ain't a little weakling, he just doesn't know how to use his own powers properly, also Bushroot and the fearsome four tried to man-up and kill "Negaduck" in "just us justice ducks", friendly reminder on that.)

In the original show, Bushroot had moments where he had a lot of confidence in doing his "evil" stuff, I say evil like that, cause Bushroot had potential to be redeemed and that would have been a good concept if it was explored and if it was explored correctly. I think this version of Bushroot just... doesn't seem to have the same possibility, I think he is just a zombie with little to no emotions now, which HONESTLY would have been fun to see how he would have interacted with the rest of other menbers of the fearsome four. Kinda sad we didn't saw much of him in the episode. But again, so much in only less than an hour. It's completely understandable why his screentime was limited.

Now. My boy.

Liquidator...

Oh boy. I'm surely going to get murked for this.

But I hate this design so badly. Don't get me wrong. Y'all can enjoy your buff water guy all you want, he's all yours (I see you people 🫵👁️_👁️) but the way they just... MADE HIM BUFF feels so weird to me.

I get it that cause he is a DOG made of WATER and sometimes dogs in media are portrayed as buff characters with a few exceptions like goofy and Max (and a some background characters in Darkwing and ducktales 2017) and when you combine that with the fact that he can shapeshift his body at will, you could eventually come up with this. I see what they were going with it but the thing is. Wasn't his whole deal is that he was just a water salesman?

When you compare how he looks in the reboot to how he looks the original, you will see the noticeable difference between the two. Sure, you can use the "he can shapeshift his body at will" thing as a reason to why he looks lik that, but I simply cannot see a reason on to WHY he would do that. I do like the tail they gave him in the reboot tho, that was kinda missing on his design lol. And I'll be honest, seeing how people used to go. "NO! 1991 LIQUIDATOR BETTER!" "NO! 2017 LIQUIDATOR BETTER!" Back then And some still do till this day. Was kinda funny to me, especially when both still deal with the same issue. No personality outside being a salesman. Just like in the original show, all liquidator does is... Stand there and talk, especially talk in slogans. As he was a salesman always trying to sell his water. A sad reminder that not even the comics did him some justice, they did him dirty. (And I say this as liquidator fan who BEGS for more fan-content about him.) some people forget that he went from a serious salesman to a... SURPRISINGLY funny and cheerful villain, he always talks like he is in a commercial and he was so hilarious to me. Now he got turned into a (kinda) serious buff guy with the element of being a salesman in him. I hate the fact that we never got to see how exactly his dynamic with Bushroot would have been because, unlike Megavolt and Quackerjack, they never got episodes that focused on the two, all the episodes where they appeared and talked to each other had Quackerjack and Megavolt with them. And in let's get dangerous. He still lacked proper screentime and personality but again, the reason for that is the "too much in little time with a lot to focus on."

We had the plot with Gosalyn's missing Grandpa and interdimentional portal, The boys and Scrooge finding out about F.O.W.L AND the plot with the villains. All of that IN LESS THAN AN HOUR. There was too much going on and the fact that the show got cancelled, so they couldn't do much for the fearsome four (plus the deleted scene with Jim Starling/Negaduck) but I'm happy the fearsome four got to appear. As they are my favourite super villain team to exist.

Now a question at the end, how tall do you guys make the fearsome four be in YOUR HeadCanons? Again. HeadCanons. Everyone has different opinions and that's completely fine. As long as they're not problematic.

From tallest to shortest, my HeadCanon heights for them are:

Bushroot being the tallest, as he is now a tree. Literally. Quackerjack and Liquidator being the same height. With liquidator being slightly shorter. And lastly, Megavolt. The shorty.

In the original Darkwing duck show, their heights were the most inconsistent mystery there qas, as I pointed out in this post I made about the inconsistencies. So for my upcoming designs, I decided to give them consistent heights. (And yes, Megavolt is taller than Negaduck, obviously.)

And I won't take the heights in the Ducktales reboot because this is more of my own Darkwing duck AU heights i'm talking about, and again, I don't like 2017 liquidator. So let me know yours.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an award-winning author and an influential advocate of feminism. She has captivated people worldwide with her powerful storytelling and her outspoken campaign for gender equality. She was born in Enugu, Nigeria, and was raised in an academic environment that surely nurtured her passion for writing. As one of six siblings she grew up in the university town of Nsukka, her Mother was the first female registrar at University of Masuka and her father was Nigeria's first professor of statistics, and later became Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the same university. She attributes her success in part to her parents for, encouraging her self-confidence and being supportive by always showing that they had confidence in her. She began studying medicine and pharmacy at the university school her parents worked at; though, writing seems to have called to her, as she also edited the magazine created by the medical students. She left her medical studies after a year and a half when at nineteen she gained a scholarship to Eastern Connecticut State University in America, where she graduated summa cum laude (with highest honours) with a degree in communication and political science and continued her passion for writing by producing articles for the university journal. She went on to gain her master’s degree in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University, become a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University, earned an MA in African Studies from Yale University, and she was awarded a fellowship by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University. During this time, she has released numerous novels, including A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions. She holds strong feelings regarding gender equality and is proud of her femininity, taking pleasure in fashion whilst grappling with the knowledge that she will be judged for the way she chooses to dress. And so the year draws to a close! Big movie month and hoping to carry that over into the new year.

Turning Red (2022) Late to the game on this but it’s so great! When they talk about the ritual and that the words to the music don’t matter, I knew it was gonna lead to 4*Town playing a key role, but what they did on top of that was a genuine surprise and what takes this to the next level: they embrace the obvious setups but add an extra twist to the payoffs. So great.

The Fate of the Furious (2017) Okay I really love the idea of evil Dom so this movie moooooostly works. I’m still getting caught up on the series but even knowing that Han is alive, it’s still baffling that Shaw is embraced by the crew. He killed that whole hospital wing! 

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) These are of course Christmas films and I’ve noticed a transition in myself having not seen them for many years. I once liked the earlier movies for how faithful they were to recreating the books, but I now see how that the accuracy is at the expense of the movie’s pacing. Still really impressed with how well cast the core trio is even at this age.

The Santa Clause (1994) Nostalgia overwhelms my perspective on this but, as far as I can tell, this holds up pretty well. Starting Scott off as just...kinda the worst makes his transition all the better and I think is where Tim Allen is at his best. Plus a lot of really great sight gags which I don’t really see anymore (like the Denny’s full of sad dads).

Confess, Fletch (2022) Fun and the sort of movie I wish got made more often. Not all of the humour really landed but the characters were engaging and the mystery lead to a lot of fun. Perfectly decent rainy day watch.

The Night Before (2015) A lot of ups and downs with this one. At it’s best it’s very funny but when it slows down it really grinds to a halt. I wonder if the hangover movies have the same challenge. Also 100% thought the steroid injection was insulin.

Frosty the Snowman (1969) and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (1970) Two Rankin Bass classics that really highlight the best that this production company could do.

No Hard Feelings (2023) and Easy A (2010) The former was a pretty fun comedy that didn’t have a lot of comedy and the later was a comedy that I remember loving when it came out but not really connecting upon rewatch. Would I still recommend both? I think so, but only lightly.

Blue Eye Samurai (Episode 1.01 to 1.04) A good chunk into the season and really digging it. The characters are rich and layered and the show is doing a good job of exploring those layers in an engaging story. Plus the setting/time period allows for a lot of really great visuals. Definitely making the most out of the premise and stoked for the rest of the season.

Poker Face (Episode 1.08 to 1.10) Such a satisfying series. The majority of the episodes stand on their own but the bigger picture occasionally pops up, until the end of the season where it becomes the main focus. Just like TV used to be! Really beautiful wardrobe and set design, all the actors seem to be having a great time, and each episode feels thoroughly realized. Big fan can’t recommend enough. 

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Episode 1.07 to 1.08) Came into it expecting something else and it’s gonna take some time to adjust to what it was. Gotta rewatch but really no complaints!

There is a Tide aka Taken at the Flood by Agatha Christie (Page 122 of 224) Picked up a bunch of old Agatha Christie books at a thrift store (partly because of the cool covers, partly cause I like mystery as a genre but never read it). Turns out this is EXACTLY what I needed right now. It’s been a while since I was this stoked to keep going with a story and this specific story feels like a great influence on the first Knives Out movie in that it’s centred around a lot of family drama vying for control of a deceased benefactor’s money. So stoked and gonna grab more of these when I can. Hey do you have old DELL copies of Christie novels you don’t want? Lemme know.

Tiger in the Stars by Zach Hughes (Complete) Okay so I picked this up while thrifting. There were DOZENS of these Laser Books and figured I’d try one and see what they were like. Turns out...not that great. Some fun ideas but moved at a snail’s pace and felt like there was a lot of padding. Something like this feels like a Goosebumps book (short, quick output, somewhat formulaic) but in comparison, I think I’d prefer R. L. Stein.

Delicious in Dungeon Vol. 2 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Again rereading as the series draws to a close and it’s still such a joy. These characters are fully formed right from the beginning and it’s such a good study in dramatic escalation as right now it still feels light and fun and I love it.

The Michael Moorcock Library: The Chronicles of Corum Vol. 1: The Knight of Swords by Mike Baron, Mike Mignola, Rick Burchett, & Kelly Jones (Complete) Love these illustrated retellings of the old pulp fantasy novels. Sometimes the limited page count leads to pacing that feels rushed and a scale that feels smaller than the grandiosity of the subject matter, but every adaptation requires sacrifice. Gonna keep going with this series and also try to find the original books!

The so-called Century Series of jet fighters covered six models operated by the USAF with the military designations from F-100 to F-106. They stood out during the 50s and 60s.

F-104 #4The small Lockheed F-104 Starfighter represents the most used and probably best known aircraft model of the "Century" series. He was still in service in the mid-1980s, working in air forces around the world, although his days were already numbered as an operational fighter.

Designed initially for daytime hunting functions, the prototype first flew on February 7, 1954. Like many other devices of the same time, they faced numerous problems in their initial phase. On one occasion, no less than 52 Starfighters were in tests. After overcoming the difficulties, the F-104A entered service in the 83rd Interception Fighter Squadron in January 1958, but, as early as April, it had to remain on the ground due to a series of accidents related to the impeller.

Reequipped with the 179-GE-3B engine, some problems were solved, but, in view of its short range and poor safety, it ceased to be among the U.S. frontline planes in 1960 and many of its remnants passed to the National Guard. The first multi-use model, the F-104C, served in the TAC (Tactical Air Command) for many

F-104The number of F-104C aircraft manufactured did not exceed 77, becoming the last Starfighter that the American Air Force used in its operations. Some fought in Southeast Asia, although with a smaller turnout. The production of the F-104B and F-104D models, biplace versions of the F-104A and F-104C, respectively, reached the number of 47 devices manufactured.

The definitive Starfighter, the F-104G, consisted of a multi-use device with a radar system optimized for both air-to-air and air-surface missions. The development of this variant began in 1958. Then, members of NATO, Canada and Japan imported them. He would become one of the most important fighters of the 1960s and the center of a scandal involving bribery in the 1970s.

EDITOR'S NOTE2: The fear that the pilot, when ejecting, would be hit by the drift after the ejection was such that in the end the device ended up with a singular seat that ejected down, which proved deadly at low altitudes.

EDITOR'S NOTE3: Legend has it that the personnel in the maintenance cut themselves on the very sharp edge of attack of the wings. If it's true, I don't know, but I only know that it was a remarkable feat of engineering the construction of the wings. To increase the lift, the flaps had "venezianas" at the top and air bled from the engine was ejected there, increasing the air flow and consequently, the lift.

God this song is truly beautiful, it's one of the few Eurovision songs that have brought me to tears just through it's pure beauty and simplicity. Also Salvador is both a meme and an absolute sweetheart, protect him at all costs.

I think I would be shot if I didn't mention ABBA lmaooo. I deadass sometimes forget they won Eurovision, and I know for a fact most people don't know they even entered. It's still a bop after all this time.

Reflection on UKZN's Occupational Therapy Curriculum

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) offers Bachelor of Occupational Therapy program which is designed to give students skills and knowledge to practice occupational therapy in different places including community and primary health care levels (PHC).

The curriculum extends over four years of full-time study with all modules being compulsory. This helps students to be exposed to all areas of occupational therapy. The curriculum also includes the practical experience. This experience helps students to prepare for real-world practice after they become professional healthcare workers. UKZN OT curriculum teaches students to be holistic.

At UKZN OT students get exposed to PHC and community-based practice during their final year of studying (Naidoo. et al. 2019). During the first year of study, students do community studies in the second semester. This is a basic foundation of what they should expect in community settings when they finally work there. The lack of continuity of community-based studies at the UKZN OT curriculum for a second and third year makes it challenging for students to track the progression of applying knowledge and skills.

According to Rensburg (2021), South Africa has a two-tiered, highly unequal healthcare system. Only 17 in 100 South Africans have medical insurance, while 82 out of 100 largely depend on public healthcare, see https://www.statssa.gov.za/?p=10548 for more information. This means a large number of people cannot access hospital care. UKZN OT curriculum should be using this platform to help address these health inequalities as early second year of study. Allowing students to be in community can align their learning and training with the country’s health system.

According to Naidoo and Van Wyk (2016), PHC promotes a holistic approach to health care, which is what OT is about. It helps students to consider the whole person, including physical, psychological, and social needs. This helps OT students to experience community engagement and understand social determinants of health. Naidoo and Joubert (2017) wrote about to main things in their study, challenges faced by disabled community and appropriate opportunities for intervention in PHC by occupational therapists. the community faced social and physical inaccessibility challenges, including physical and sexual abuse, discrimination and marginalisation. The focus of UKZN OT curriculum on PHC and community based-practice in first and fourth year is a good thing because it provide students with understanding the difficulties faced by these communities and helps to develop appropriate intervention.

UKZN occupational therapy staff has postgraduate degrees which serve as assurance that students are learning from experienced professionals in the field. Exposure to fieldwork practice from second-year study is good because it helps students to have a clear understanding of what OT is from the early phase.

Although the UKZN occupational therapy curriculum is the best in training students to face real work, I feel as if they could close the gap between first and fourth community studies, they must integrate it throughout the curriculum. This is because community-based practice is where you find your feet as an occupational therapist, the beauty of our profession because most health professionals wait for patients to come to them, but in community-based practice, you go to people, see their living conditions, and with scarce resources and still make an impact.
