yes i am legit irritated by the ‘the holodeck has a separate power source for Therapy reasons’ thing (not therapy, but like, as an acknowledgement that the crew has mental health to think of and an escape is at times necessary) because;

 A) that is so clearly a reason taken from the school of ‘i pulled this idea out of my ass just because i wanted to make a stupid gag about him not liking wine’.

B) they should have Immediately scavenged the power source to keep them alive which makes point A infuriating rather than annoying, and the piece de résistance~

C) the whole entire reason this plot with Shaw exists is because quite Clearly nobody’s given a shit about this guy’s trauma and how it’s turned him into a bitter asshole who treats everybody like shit because he has enough pips to do it. 

He’s quite clearly not over what happened to him, he’s taking that out on seven and picard like they’re not even people, and i’m not going to play the victimisation olympics because it’s not fair to compare trauma, but in terms of shitty things happening to them because of the borg i think they both uh, got off worse than him here. I’ll say that. 

What happened to the guy Would fuck him up, sure, i’m actually glad they are acknowledging this as a Huge thing that happened. But damn, I know we’ve only seen the guy be totally secluded on his ship and all, but he seems to just Not Have Friends. Nobody likes him. I assume after all his friends died and he got to live by virtue of a random lieutenant picking him out of a line he’s just. Not made any more friends. Which is really quite depressing. and i’ll give them points for coming up with something that perfectly explains his issues without Having to go into it in depth out loud but. I shall loop back around now.

Yes i capslocked bc i genuinely think this is infuriating enough to scream at the moon. What happened to councillors???? Deanna’s job was damn vital. What happened to psych evals??? Was the person who assigned Seven to him as his first officer without checking that this wasn’t an issue mean or stupid? (mean to Both of them, to be clear). This man quite clearly is in an absolute state because nobody at starfleet properly assessed his mental health. Now, he’s just a traumatized guy who is actively taking it out on everybody around him. He’s bitter and mean and disrespectful. 

He shouldn’t be. He never should have been left to end up like that. 

But starfleet Cares about their crew, so they let them have a holodeck when it’s stressful and they have no life support bc mental destressing is SO important that it trumps breathing. 

And to be clear, i know full well that all of this was just something that happened incidentally because they wanted to make a stupid joke about picard’s kid not liking wine just to SHow How Different They Are after they’d shown us their similarities, but nobody thought about how they bent over backwards to make the joke would throw everything else into a really messed up light (kidding, they don’t have lights on the titan). Or maybe they didn’t care. It doesn’t Matter what this story says about anything in the periphery to them, nothing seems to matter at all but picard’s man pain. I don’t like shaw, i kind of enjoy watching him have a series of terrible, not good, awful days, but this isn’t actually about Shaw at all.
