Underneath the Stars | H.Kai
➳ The stars will always shine, even if it can never shine brighter than the moon.
↳ Pairing: Hueningkai x Reader
↳ word count: 4.4k
↳ genre: fluff, like a tinee bit of angst, messy bc i was writing this with no idea of what plot to do also i think the ending is rushed but i still went past 12kst so what use was that rush sakjsjka, Hogwarts AU with a babie hufflepuff kai!
↳a/n: Belated happy birthday hueningie. Ningningdungies enjoy this half-baked Hufflepuff Kai fic
It was a cloudy day, perfect for students as they walked around aimlessly at the grounds before the anticipated quidditch match between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff started.
Hueningkai, the Hufflepuff seeker, should have been making his way down to the Quidditch Pitch.
That’s why Y/N was so confused why they chose to be up in the owlery—laughing maniacally at her in amusement.
“Why are you even here?” She whined, clutching her letter to her chest.
“Well, I was curious why you weren’t in the stands to cheer me and Taehyun on,” Kai grinned, wiggling his eyebrows in a teasing manner. “Clearly, you’re more interested in sending a letter to a certain Slytherin,”
Kai laughed again, dogding a flying shoe courtesy of the girl.
“Good aim, want me to train you for Chaser?” Kai said nonchalantly, walking closer to the owls.
“No, thank you. Shouldn’t you be down at the pitch?” Y/N sighed in irritation, clutching the letter closer to her as he scooted closer—his eyes trained on the small envelope.
“Not going without you,” Kai snorted, crossing his arms. “What did you even say in the letter?”
“I’m going to confess—tonight at the Astronomy tower,” Y/N declared firmly, before burning red again as she shot Kai a small pout. “Do you think he’ll like me.”
Kai only gave her a small smile.
“He’d be stupid if he didn’t,” Kai grinned, gesturing his head over to the envelope. “Now, come on. Send that off and let’s go, we have a match.”
Y/N huffed, raising the envelope to Beomgyu’s owl—watching as it opened its wings and flew off to drop the anonymous envelope to Beomgyu.
It’s been a year, huh? Can we meet at the astronomy tower at midnight? I have something to ask you about the Yule Ball in a few weeks. -your admirer.
Y/N has always been around Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Kai for as long as she can remember.
Growing up, the five boys were practically hounding at her every day.
Soobin was her older brother, the perfect brother one can have—doting but not too overbearing, talented and charming, smart but can be airheaded most times.
It was through him that she met Yeonjun, his soon-to-be best friend and new next-door-neighbor.
Of course, that automatically meant meeting Yeonjun’s little brother, Beomgyu.
The mischievous pest warmed up really quickly to her—what with their mutual desire to torture their older brothers with endless pranks.
Then, they met Taehyun and Hueningkai through their parents.
Kai’s mother and Taehyun’s father were good friends with their parents, as well as Yeonjun’s and Beomgyu’s.
Of course, a reunion between old friends means a meeting between their children—and the moment Y/N met Kai she swore she found her other half.
Platonically speaking.
Sure, Taehyun and Beomgyu were so in sync with him, and Soobin and Yeonjun were just the perfect hyungs to be.
Y/N was different.
She was instantly hooked the first time he gave her the softest smile—introducing himself as “Hueningie” instead of his actual name of Kai and offering a cuddle of his plushie as a welcoming gift.
It wasn’t until they were around 10 years old when Y/N started realizing what love was—it was what she felt for her other best friend—Beomgyu.
Of course, Hueningkai knew this.
Of course, he didn’t say anything.
Even if he knew her love would hurt him in the long run.
Y/N rushed, hands shaking as she made her way up the Astronomy to finally tell Beomgyu how she’s felt for years.
She made sure she wouldn’t make him wait—going there thirty minutes before even the agreed time.
But it seems like someone beat her to the punch—two someones.
By the observation deck stood Beomgyu, cheeks burning red as he conversed with a short girl with long brown hair.
Lee Daeun—Slytherin, one of the prettiest in her house, and Beomgyu’s crush since freshman year.
He swore up and down that he grew out of his crush on her—obviously not with the way he blushed a bright red.
“This is you?” Beomgyu asked as he held a couple of envelopes in his hands—all love letters that Y/N herself wrote throughout the duration of the year.
“Yes,” Daeun replied shyly as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “I really liked you, Beomgyu, so I thought I should send you some letters,”
Beomgyu smiled softly.
“You do?”
“I do,”
“What did you want to ask me?” Beomgyu asked gently, hand reaching out to grab the girl’s.
“Will you take me to the Yule Ball, Beomie?” Daeun asked, using Kai’s childhood nickname that only Y/N was allowed to use.
Instead of bringing that up, Beomgyu’s eyes brightened up as his smile widened even more.
As Y/N watched the scene from a the doorway, arms circled around her waist and a chin rested on her head.
“It’s okay,” Kai sighed, tightening his grip.
“What are you doing here?” Y/N asked, hand trailing down to grip his tightly.
Hueningkai buried his face in her hair, muttering as his eyes locked onto the scene in front of him—Daeun giggling non-stop as Beomgyu smiled brightly.
“I’m here to tease you,”
“Then tease me,” Y/N replied, voice wavering. “Tell me how stupid I am for falling in love with one of my best friends.”
“Falling in love with your best friend isn’t stupid,”
Y/N didn’t reply, watching as Beomgyu leaned forward and planted a kiss on Daeun’s lips.
Kai didn’t speak as Y/N turned around, burying her head in his chest and starting to cry.
He just tightened his grip on her.
“Falling in love with your best friend hurts, Kai,”
Kai smiled sadly.
“I know,” Kai said. “I know how it feels,”
There, four beating hearts stood underneath the same bright stars—nothing but the shining moon to witness the pain and heartache.
The next day, Kai sat next to Y/N and Soobin in the Gryffindor table—chewing happily on a pancake.
Mina, the Gryffindor prefect passed by.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at the Hufflepuff table?”
Kai only grinned.
Soobin, who was the other Gryffindor prefect, waved his hand nonchalantly.
“It’s nothing big,” Soobin replied, tearing into another piece of bread—continuing his statement with a mouthful. “People do it all the time,”
“I’m sorry—house divisions exist for a reason. Tables are separate for a reason and—“ Mina’s eyes hardened, mouth opening to argue more.
A body decked in an emerald green plopped down next to Soobin with a groan.
“It’s 7:00 AM on a Sunday, Mina,” Yeonjun glared. “Literally take that stick out of your arse and leave us alone,”
“A Slytherin—“
“Leave or I’ll tell Professor Binns you cheated on your History of Magic exam yesterday, Ms. Prefect,” Yeonjun hissed, effectively shutting down the girl.
After Mina huffed and marched away, Yeonjun rolled his eyes.
“Good morning,”
Soobin greeted back—mouth still full of bread loaves—while Hueningkai waved.
Y/N just gave a weak smile.
“Why are you here?” Soobin asked once he swallowed down his food.
Taehyun arrived, sitting down next to Hueningkai—his blue robes standing out.
“Is it because Beomgyu and his new girlfriend are getting too disgusting?” Taehyun asked, reaching out to take a slice of meat from the serving plate in front of Hueningkai.
“It’s 7 in the morning—I have no patience for that crap—“ Yeonjun said, before raising his voice. “Or you, Mina—shut it!”
Soobin continued chewing, eyebrows furrowing inquisitively.
“Wait,” Soobin tilted his head. “He has a girlfriend now?”
“Yeah, Lee Daeun,” Yeonjun grumbled.
“But—“ Soobin started, is eyes falling on his sister. “Oh, so that’s why.”
“Can we not talk about this?” Y/N asked.
“Talk about what?” Beomgyu’s voice asked as he appeared behind them, hands on Y/N’s shoulders happily.
“Nothing,” Kai grumbled as Beomgyu raised an eyebrow.
“Okay?” He laughed, hand tugging on the sheepish girl behind him. “Everyone, this is Daeun. My girlfriend.”
Y/N didn’t react, only continuing to poke with her food.
“Hi,” Yeonjun grumbled.
“How exactly did this happen?” Soobin piped up.
“Or when?” Taehyun added.
“Last night,” Beomgyu recalled happily. “Remember the letters I’ve been getting? It’s all her.”
Soobin and Yeonjun—who both found out about the letters—and Taehyun—who, much to the dismay of Kai, suggested Y/N do the letters—all widened their eyes to look at the Slytherin girl giggling next to Beomgyu.
“No, she isn’t,” Yeonjun said, pursing his lips at the glare Kai sent his way.
“I am,” Daeun said happily, giggling as she leaned on Beomgyu’s arm. “And now we’re dating and going to the Yule Ball,”
Before anyone could say anything, Y/N slammed her fork on the table and wiped her lips with a napkin.
“I’m not hungry anymore.” Y/N said.
Beomgyu furrowed her eyebrows.
“Y/N, you barely ate.”
“I lost my appetite.”
“But why—“
“That’s because anyone would lose their appetite with you and your girlfriend around, Choi,” a voice declared. “I would retch.”
Kai groaned, head slamming on the table in exasperation.
Soobin continued eating as Yeonjun started to mix a cup of coffee for him and Taehyun—invested in the scene in front of them.
Beomgyu’s eyes immediately darkened as he looked over at the approaching Gryffindor.
It was true—no matter how much a Slytherin or a Gryffindor liked each others’ houses, there’s always that one person from another house that they hate.
In Beomgyu’s case, that was Song Hanbin.
“I don’t recall you being part of the conversation,” Beomgyu quipped to which Hanbin only smirked.
“I don’t recall your friends inviting you over to eat with them,” Hanbin shot back.
“Technically, we invited no one—they just came on their own,” Soobin said, which was ignored.
“Anyways, Choi, don’t worry your pretty little head—I’m not here for you,” Hanbin said. “I’m here for Y/N.”
The said girl’s head shot up, along with Kai’s.
Hanbin turned, smiling over at Y/N.
“I think you’re really beautiful, and I’ve been admiring you from afar for years now,” Hanbin started.
At this point, Hueningkai’s eyes were wide open—a signal for help sent to his hyungs, who were the only ones who knew about his feelings for Y/N.
Granted, he felt weird that her older brother was so invested in his sister’s love affairs.
Soobin and Yeonjun only exchanged a look of panic, Taehyun next to them signalling a cut across his neck.
“Stop it now!” Taehyun mouthed.
“I think you’re a really smart, captivating girl,” Hanbin continued. “And I’d really like it if you went to the Yule Ball with me,”
At this point, Y/N’s eyes darted all over her friends’ faces.
Beomgyu was positively fuming while Hueningkai was burning bright red in panic.
“She’s not going with you,” Beomgyu replied for Y/N.
“Well, that’s not your choice, is it? Focus on your girlfriend.” Hanbin replied, mocking Beomgyu before Y/N spoke.
“I’m not going with you—“ Y/N said. “I’m going with Hueningie,”
At this, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, Soobin and even Kai himself stopped—freezing as Y/N smiled over at Hanbin.
“Thank you, Hanbin. I’m flattered, but I’m already going as Kai’s date.”
“You are?” Kai squeaked as Beomgyu furrowed his eyebrows.
“That’s unfortunate,” Hanbin smiled, shrugging as he backed away. “Better luck next time, eh?”
“Sure,” Y/N nodded, looking back at Kai.
“You’re going with me?” Kai said, a hopeful tone to his voice.
“Of course,” Y/N started, but was cut off by Beomgyu shaking his head.
“No, you’re not?” Beomgyu said, making Y/N turn to him.
“Why not?”
“You don’t like him, right?” Beomgyu said. “Why are you going on a dance with him?”
“None of your concern, Beomie, or maybe I should just call you Beomgyu.” Y/N sighed, standing up and sending an exasperated nod to a frozen Daeun.
“Huh?” Beomgyu asked.
“Have a nice day,” Y/N cracked a small smile as she nodded over to the couple.
As she left, Kai stood up—shooting Beomgyu an incredulous look.
“Next time, try to clarify who exactly you’re talking to and meeting,” Kai said. “Daeun didn’t send those letters.”
Kai left, following Y/N.
One by one, Taehyun, Soobin and Yeonjun took their leave.
Hogsmeade—the district next to Hogwarts where students frequent to do their purchases and spend on a whim during their stay in Hogwarts.
Soobin and Yeonjun—one of the most sought-after in the school—decided to play a prank on their admirers by going to the ball together.
When offered to buy dress robes together, Yeonjun and Soobin refused to go with Kai and Y/N, choosing to go to instead head to the Shrieking Shack (which the both of them have seen a couple of times already, but still frequent to scare the innocent students looking at it for the first time).
Taehyun decided to be a lone wolf—stating that he’d either leave early or make fun of people with Soobin and Yeonjun.
For dress robes, he said he made a promise to go with his Ravenclaw buddies.
No one has talked to Beomgyu since that day with Daeun.
All five promised to meet up at Three Broomsticks at exactly 7 in the evening. It was currently only 2 in the afternoon.
Kai and Y/N found themselves in Gladrag’s Wizardwear—only among the selected few who decided to go for dressrobes first.
Taehyun was already finished by the time they arrived—waving a goodbye and promising to be at Three Broomsticks.
“Yeonjun and Soobin are going to be stuck in line later,” Y/N said as she thumbed through the selection of dresses.
Kai, with arms already holding a brand new set of plain black dress robes, snorted.
“We did tell them to come with us,” Hueningkai said, eyes locking onto Y/N’s arms. “Will you be wearing all of these?”
“Trying out some of them, yeah,”
“I think you look really beautiful in blue,” Kai said, burning bright red when Y/N looked at him in shock. “Just—Just a suggestion,”
Y/N smiled softly.
“What about red?”
“I think you look beautiful in everything,” Kai said, coughing akwardly as he looked off to the side. “I just really like blue.”
“Okay,”
In the end, Y/N got a beautiful blue dress and they left the store with bags carried in Kai’s left hand, and Y/N holding the other.
Hands still tightly clutched in Hueningkai’s, Y/N pouted as she tried to choose what flavor of no-melt ice cream she would purchase for the day.
“Maybe mint chocolate?” Kai suggested making the girl wince, looking over at the boy who was already eating his own ice cream in the wretched flavor.
“That’s disgusting,” Y/N hissed, scrunching her nose up in disgust. “It’s like eating cold toothpaste.”
“No, it’s not!” Hueningkai argued, making the girl roll her eyes and settle on a flavor.
“Vanilla with Cookie Dough, please,” Y/N requested.
“That’s so boring,” Kai commented as Y/N received her own cup.
“You’re boring!” Y/N shot back.
With a grin, Hueningkai shoved a spoonful of mint chocolate ice cream in Y/N’s mouth—laughing maniacally.
Y/N whined as she pulled the spoon out.
“It tastes so weird,” Y/N groaned.
Hueningkai laughed as Y/N continued to whine, stopping when he saw Y/N’s lips with a small crumb of ice cream.
“Your—uh—“ Kai said. “You have um—“
“What?”
Kai didn’t reply, reaching out and brushing the corner of her lips.
Y/N’s eyes widened as Hueningkai blushed, brushing the crumb off of his hand.
“You had a—“ Hueningkai stopped, eyes locking with Y/N’s. “Something.”
Y/N didn’t speak, eyes searching his as Hueningkai started to lean down.
“Excuse me, are you guys still in line?”
Y/N flinched, stepping back in surprise as Hueningkai turned to a bored-looking Slytherin.
“Oh, uh, no,” Kai replied, hastily pulling Y/N out of the way. “Sorry,”
“Next time, make out somewhere more private than a sweets shop.”
Y/N blushed red as Hueningkai stammered.
Next to them, the ice cream clerk was smiling.
Y/N sat next to Hueningkai in Three Broomsticks—laughing loudly as Yeonjun and Soobin started to argue about some stupid things.
Taehyun smirked off at the side, chiming in every once in a while to aid either party to make the argument bigger and bigger.
Hueningkai and Y/N sat side by side, hands awfully close to one another.
The Hufflepuff breathed deeply, ready to grab Y/N’s hand and intertwine it with his before—
“Hi,” A voice greeted meekly, revealing a shy Slytherin walking up to the table.
“Beomgyu?” Y/N asked in surprise as Beomgyu stepped forward. “Where’s Daeun?”
Beomgyu pursed his lips, shaking his head.
Y/N’s eyes turned sympathetic, hand reaching out to land on Beomgyu’s arm.
“Beomie, it’s okay, you don’t deserve a liar,” Y/N said, smiling.
Beomgyu only smiled, squeezing her hand on his arm.
“Will you meet me at the Astronomy Tower tonight, then?”
Y/N chuckled.
“Sure, if you sit down and eat right now.” Y/N smiled back.
Yeonjun snorted, resuming his argument with Soobin.
Beomgyu smiled and took a seat next to Y/N.
At the side, Hueningkai retracted his hand next to Y/N’s.
He’ll probably have to stay with Taehyun, Soobin and Yeonjun for the Yule Ball.
Y/N reached the top of the Astronomy Tower, smiling slightly at the sight of Beomgyu sitting on the ledge of the observation deck.
“Hey,”
“Hi,” Beomgyu replied, still looking up at the stars.
“Just you?” Y/N asked, making Beomgyu laughed as he glanced over at her.
“I promise—no Daeun this time,” Beomgyu said, patting the spot next to him. “Sit.”
“What if I fall?”
“I won’t let you,” Beomgyu smiled, hand steadying the girl as she plopped on the spot next to the boy.
There was a beat of silence before Beomgyu sighed.
“This is how it should have been,” He started, eyes drifting towards Y/N. “Isn’t it?”
Y/N only hummed, chuckling softly.
“Maybe, but things happen.”
Beomgyu smiled, raising an eyebrow.
“So you made me all those letters, huh?”
Y/N winced, shrugging.
“Yeah, blame Taehyun.”
“Oh, I will,” Beomgyu snorted. “He told me you didn’t like me,”
Y/N laughed, looking at Beomgyu. “Well, I told him to.”
Beomgyu only sighed, smiling as he combed a hand through her hair.
“I liked you, Y/N, I always have.” Beomgyu said. “If it was you, and not Daeun, that I met up here that night, it would have been you and me,”
“I was up here, that night,” Y/N shared, shaking her head. “I saw what happened—how she told you it was her and everything.”
“And the kiss?”
“Yeah,”
Beomgyu winced, making Y/N chuckle.
“It’s fine, you know. I had Kai—he followed me,” Y/N explained.
Beomgyu nodded, hand taking hers.
“You know, Y/N,” Beomgyu said. “If you asked me now, I’d say yes.”
Y/N smiled softly—the past few weeks rolling around in her brain.
The one person who cared about her enough to follow her every step of the way, who was there when she got hurt that night.
The one who was there to pick up the pieces and side with her throughout all this time.
The one who always hid in the shadows and backed off when Y/N decided that, no, she wanted to be with Beomgyu instead of him.
She stayed silent, only looking up at Beomgyu who grinned understandingly.
“Yeah, okay,” Beomgyu laughed, making Y/N smile in relief. “So, you don’t like me anymore?”
“Oh, I do,” Y/N laughed. “You’re my best friend, Beomie—I’ll always like you,”
“But?” “Not as much as I used to,” Y/N snorted.
Beomgyu raised an eyebrow as Y/N fiddled with her fingers.
“There’s someone else.”
“Oh?”
“I, uh, realized I always liked him—I just never knew.” Y/N explained, groaning at Beomgyu’s teasing smirk. “Shut up, Choi.”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“I know you’re thinking it!”
Beomgyu laughed shaking his head as he leaned back on his hands.
“In the back of my mid, I kind of always knew.” Beomgyu hummed, making Y/N sigh.
Beomgyu turned to his best friend, dusting his robes.
“Do you want me to walk you back to the Gryffindor tower?”
“I think I’ll stay for a bit.”
Beomgyu nodded, smiling and kissing her on the cheek.
“Good luck,” he said.
“Thank you,” Y/N muttered, eyes trained up as her heart felt a little lighter.
There she sat, under the shine of the stars—her heart admitting the words her heart always knew.
Hueningkai stammered as Beomgyu dragged him to the Gryffindor tower, straight from the entrance of the Hufflepuff dorms.
“Beomgyu, wh—“
Hueningkai fussed, successfully shaking the boy off of his arm by the entrance to the Gryffindor towers.
“Kau, where the hell were you?” Yeonjun whined.
Soobin only tilted his head inquisitively as Taehyun seemed unbothered.
“I was—I was planning to come to the Great Hall when the ball started—“
“You had a date,” Beomgyu hissed. “Dude, really?”
Kai furrowed his eyebrows.
“But—“ Kai stammered. “I thought you and her—“
“No, Kai,” Beomgyu sighed, an exasperated smile on his face.
“Oh,”
“Hueningie?”
Kai jumped in surprise, heads turning to Y/N as she exited the Gryffindor tower with a soft smile.
Hueningkai melted on the spot as he saw the blue dress Y/N had picked on their trip to Hogsmeade when he mentioned he liked blue.
He stammered on the spot as Y/N walked over.
Yeonjun and Soobin looked on in amusement, wiping fake tears off of their faces as they muttered about how “they grow up so fast,”
Taehyun and Beomgyu looked on proudly, chattering amongst themselves.
“You look beautiful tonight,” Hueningkai started as he offered out his arm, scrunching his face. “I meant you look beautiful every night, but especially tonight—I—“
“Thanks, Kai,” Y/N smiled, looping her arm through his. “You look beautiful too.”
He only smiled.
A swirl of colors mixed on the dance floor.
Laughter and excitement filled the Great Hall.
By the buffet table, Yeonjun and Soobin fought over the last piece of loaved bread.
Taehyun and Beomgyu idly conversed in a nearby table.
Kai and Y/N awkwardly held hands, slow-dancing upon the insistence of Beomgyu and Taehyun. (Yeonjun and Soobin actually couldn’t be bothered because they were more concerned with the food table.)
Kai coughed softly, blushing a bright red as Y/N smiled in amusement.
“Are you feeling weird?” Y/N asked making Hueningkai shake his head.
“No, I’m okay,”
“You feel awkward?” Y/N laughed as Kai shook his head. “Come on, let’s go out,”
Kai breathed heavily as Y/N pulled him away, her eyes locking with Beomgyu who shot her a thumbs up.
Hueningkai burned a bright red as they exited the Great Hall and made their way to the Black Lake.
“What, are you drowning me today?” Kai teased as he sat by the shoreline.
Y/N snorted, tilting her head.
“Yeah, probably,” Y/N grinned, about to take a seat if it wasn’t for Hueningkai gasping.
“Wait, no—“
Hueningkai pulled off his dress robes and set it on the ground.
Y/N shot him a tiny smile and sat, arms wrapping around her knees.
“So,” Hueningkai said, pursing his lips as Y/N glanced up at the bright moon.
“Remember how we used to look up at the night sky when we were kids?” Y/N asked, making Kai laugh.
“Yeah,” Kai snorted. “I remember we used to say we’d run away with Beomgyu, Taehyun, Soobin and Yeonjun on broomsticks and live off of Chocolate Frogs and Licorice Wands,”
“Simpler times,” Y/N smiled. “That was before I had a crush on Beomgyu.”
At the mention of the older Slytherin, Hueningkai practically deflated on the spot.
He looked back up at the night sky, eyes trailing over at the moon.
“I think I’m like the stars,” Hueningkai said.
“Hm?”
“I’m always there, always shining and waiting for someone to see me—but I always get ignored for the moon,” Hueningkai explained, a penchant look on his face as Y/N turned to him. “but even if I am, I’ll stay there—waiting for that one shot to be seen, even if it’s the time I fall,”
Y/N didn’t reply, leaning her head on her knees as Kai continued to rant.
“I-I—“ Kai said, looking back down at the girl. “I’m a star just waiting for you to see me,”
Y/N smiled softly as Kai continued.
“Y/N, I like you,” Kai breathed heavily, almost as if relieved he spoke the words. “I’ve been holding this back for years and now it’s out. I like you.”
Y/N straightened up, smiling widely.
“Really?”
“Really, and it feels so light to say it—wow. I mean I know you like Beomgyu, and by all the means go for him, but I just really want to admit it and—“
Courage is one of the qualities encompassed by a Gryffindor.
It took great courage for Y/N to lean forward to plant a quick kiss on Hueningkai’s lips.
Kai stopped his rambling, eyes wide as he looked over at Y/N.
His first kiss.
Y/N pulled away, smiling shyly as she looked back up.
“Yeah, yeah,” She scoffed lightheartedly. “I like you, too.”
Hueningkai blinked, hand creeping up to touch his lips.
“You-You kissed me?”
“Shut up,” Y/N snorted, burning bright red in embarrassment. “It was my first kiss too, you know,”
Hueningkai’s smile slowly appeared, widening rapidly as he relaxed in his seat.
Y/N shifted, leaning over to rest her head on his shoulders.
“The stars look beautiful tonight—“ Y/N said. “Brighter than the moon, even.”
Hueningkai only smiled, turning his head to the side as he laid another soft kiss on her lips underneath the blanket of the brightest stars.

Fix-it fic for after ep. 5 of 2gether
soooo , a while ago i got a prompt from @youre-my-shine-xoxo that turned out to fit really well with the ending of ep 5 , so i decided to mix the actual prompt with a fix-it of sorts . it features the explanation for the last scene of the episode from tine’s pov , as well as the boys making up and getting together ! enjoy !
+++
One might think that having a fake boyfriend is certainly the weirdest and stupidest situation one can find himself in. However, there is something worse than simply having a fake boyfriend – realizing you’re actually in love with him.
And how, pray tell, is one supposed to tell his fake boyfriend that he wants him to be his not-so-fake boyfriend now? And, anyway, how would one go about it without getting rejected?
“No, this is clearly not going to work out”, Tine thought, “I have to stop this before it goes too far”.
The thing is, there was no way Sarawat liked Tine. He was popular, surrounded by fans, who were mostly girls by the way, and generally pretty detached from everyone. He teased him and called him a nuisance and showed absolutely no signs of liking Tine. And why would he?
But, if Tine kept up with this fake relationship, knowing now that every time Sarawat lookув at him, every time he toucheв him, every time he sфтп to him – his stomach would do a thousand backflips and his brain would keep reminding him that Sarawat was not his to have.
All he had to do now was simply think of something to tell Wat. Like… him wanting to pursue someone else. But who? And then it clicked.
“Hey Wat”, Tine exclaimed, as soon as Sarawat picked up the phone, “I washed your football jersey”.
“So?” the voice on the other end sounded slurred, but Tine could still hear a hint of annoyance in it as well.
“Nothing”, Tine said, thinking that was yet another confirmation of Sarawat having no feelings for him. He didn’t tell him to wash the jersey, because it meant something – it clearly didn’t. He was just teasing him again. “Where should I give it to you?”
“No need”, Sarawat said, confusing Tine for a second. “I will go get it myself”.
Wat arrived very quickly. The second Tine opened the door, he felt the smell of alcohol coming off of him, “Are you drunk?”
“Where is my jersey?” Sarawat asked, looking around the room, Tine’s already half-rhetorical question left unanswered.
As soon as Tine pointed to the bed, where the jersey was, Sarawat grabbed it and was about to leave.
“Wait!” Tine said, a little worried for Wat, and also knowing that if he didn’t do what he was planning to do that day, he would never have the guts to do it.
“What?” Sarawat asked, challenging Tine. After a second of silence, he was about to leave again, when Tine stopped him.
“Hey!” Tine said, trying to think of any excuse to keep Sarawat there until he could finally do what he had to. “A senior at the club asked to see our video”, he said, also feeling guilty for helping Pear, despite Wat asking him not to.
Sarawat sighed, quickly grabbing one of the guitars and started playing an unfamiliar song. Though Tine tried to keep up at first, he eventually stopped playing and simply looked at Wat. He was wondering what happened – why he was drunk. Maybe, it was just a regular night out with friends. Though, Tine felt he knew his fake boyfriend well enough to know that that didn’t sound like him.
But, he also felt butterflies in his stomach, when Wat was singing. It happened every time. He knew it was stupid, but every time Sarawat sang something like this, Tine felt like he was singing to him.
Sarawat was always so beautiful when he sang. To be fair, he was always beautiful, but there was something uniquely attractive and charming about him, while he was singing. Especially if it was simple like this – just the two of them in the room, a guitar and Wat’s voice – the most amazing voice Tine had ever heard. And it was a big deal for him to think that because he was also listening to Scrubb songs every day, but even they didn’t measure up unless they were sung by Wat.
“Pull yourself together, Tine!” he thought to himself, standing up and switching off the camera.
Sarawat was about to leave again, when Tine stopped him, finally having the strength to say what he had to. “Sit down first”, he asked Sarawat. It was the moment of truth. He needed to put that lie out there, or he would never be able to do it and end up heartbroken over a boy, who didn’t ask to be involved in his mess in the first place.
“I will seriously be hitting on Pear”, Tine finally said, trying to seem confident. Sarawat remained silent. “Did you hear what I just said? I said I will seriously hit on Pear”.
“You will hit on her”, Sarawat said, poison clear in his voice, “So I’m just your secret lover?”
“Wait-“, Tine said, confused as to why Sarawat was so upset. Everything was going to shit for some reason, and that wasn’t the plan.
“Should I act heartbroken?” Sarawat yelled. “Should I cry?”
“Hey!” Tine exclaimed. “What is wrong with you?” Tine knew exactly how harsh that sounded, but he couldn’t stop – it would be unfair to both of them. He would be lying to Sarawat in a much bigger way, not to mention hurting himself, if he didn’t end everything that very second. “I just want a girlfriend. Why are you-“
And then Sarawat kissed him. He fucking kissed him, and Tine still wasn’t sure what was going on, when Wat was already pulling away, saying something about him being reserved. And then Sarawat went for another kiss. Tine looked at his lips, and he wanted them. He wanted him so much. But, he knew none of this was real. Sarawat was very drunk and clearly upset about something, and Tine couldn’t use him like that. He knew Wat didn’t actually want to do any of this. So he pushed him away.
“I think you should go now”, Tine said, looking down. Sarawat did just that.
+++
Sarawat didn’t show up at uni the next day. And the day after that. And another couple of days, which made Tine really worried. What the hell could upset Wat so much that he got drunk senseless and then skipped multiple days of uni in a row? He tried to ask Man and Boss, but they refused to explain.
The thing is, the more Tine thought about Sarawat, the more he regretted his decision. And the more he thought of his feelings, the more he realized just how raw and real they were. They were the kind of feelings you tell about, even if you are going to be rejected.
So, Tine was about to go out and look for Sarawat himself, when he saw the familiar silhouette with the ever-present guitar on the back. Tine rushed to him immediately.
“Wat! Are you ok? Where were you? Why did you skip? How are you? Is everything fine?” the questions poured out of him all at once.
“None of your business”, Sarawat responded. “I can’t talk right now… Or ever”.
“Please, Wat”, Tine pleaded.
“Why do you even care?” Sarawat rolled his eyes.
“Because I-“, Tine began desperately, his tone catching Sarawat’s attention. “Can we just… talk in private? Please?”
Sarawat was silent for a second. “Sure”, he finally said, and Tine nervously dragged him into an empty classroom.
“Listen, Wat”, Tine started. “And I mean listen. Don’t interrupt me, let me say what I have to say and then reject me or punch me or whatever it is you prefer. So-“
“Wait, what? Why would I-? Reject?” Sarawat looked confused.
“What did I just say?” Tine looked exasperated.
“Sorry, sorry”, Sarawat raised his hands in defeat, gesturing for Tine to continue.
“So, first of all, I lied. About wanting to pursue Pear”, Tine looked at Sarawat, who had a blank expression on his face, and sighed. “I mean, she’s cute and all, but I was never actually interested in her. And I wasn’t sure why I even wanted to flirt with her in the first place. Until I realized that it was because-“, Tine took a second. “Because I was trying to distract myself from the fact that I was clearly developing feelings for someone else”.
“Listen, Tine, if you called me here to talk about your love life, I am really not interested”, Sarawat said bitterly and was about to turn around and leave, when Tine caught him by the sleeve.
“You promised to listen”, Tine said accusingly. “But, man, I am going about this all wrong, am not I?”
Sarawat just blinked in response, and Tine let go of his sleeve.
“Ok, ok, just-“, Tine breathed in heavily. “I like you. And I mean, like-like you. You know the way we are fake boyfriends? Well, I would very much like for us to be real ones. And I know you don’t feel the same, but I think I would actually burst, if I didn’t tell you, so…”
Sarawat was standing in the middle of the room, his mouth slightly opened, his entire body completely still.
“Oh, so now is literally the only time, when you have nothing to say, then?” Tine asked, almost laughing at the absurdity of the situation.
Sarawat coughed, looking like he’d just come out of some kind of a trance. He swallowed, “I’ve kind of been in love with you for the past year… And by kind of I mean like really in love, like seriously a lot and I-“
Tine didn’t let him finish, quickly crossing the room and pressing his lips to Wat’s. Sarawat needed a second to recover, but he started to respond quickly, and soon they were just full-on making out. It was the most exhilarating feeling, the whole room spinning, both their hearts jumping out of their respective chests.
When they eventually had to stop kissing due to the unfortunate need for air that every human being has, they were both grinning like idiots, their bodies still comfortably close to each other.
“So, what are we gonna do now?” Sarawat asked, smiling.
“Hopefully, a whole lot more of this”, Tine responded, pressing their foreheads together.
“Definitely, but I do have to ask you something…” Sarawat said nervously, and Tine nodded for him to go on. “What do you think about us becoming an actual couple now?”
Tine giggled. “I literally told you I want nothing more like a second ago, dummy”.
“Right, I just-“
“Can’t believe this is happening?”
“Yeah”, Sarawat breathed out.
“Well, you best believe it, babe”, Tine said, winking, which made Wat laugh and press a quick kiss to his now boyfriend’s lips.
Both of them were entirely content and just so, so happy.

Wei watches 2gether the Series Ep 13
We pick up from last week during Pam’s confession. It’s interesting to note how this scene doesn’t actually happen in the novel according to several posts I’ve seen. (Still haven’t finished reading Book 1. Been distracted. Sorry folks.) Pam pulls out the I met you first and asks why Sarawat didn’t ask her out sooner and why he’s dating Tine. (Guess what, it doesn’t matter who met him first, it’s who has him last that wins.) This is actually quite a bit of character assassination compared to what I’ve been told is her novel version. Seems like for every decent female character that isn’t following tropes, we have to toss in five more some where. Thanks GMMTV.
Tine comes out in time to see Pam hugging Sarawat again and Sarawat tries to get her off but she refuses to let go until he answers while Tine runs off. Sarawat only stands there and stares as Tine walks away and Tine is in the hallway crying. (Poor bby, come, let me comfort you with hugs and ice cream.) Tine eventually walks away while sobbing and it’s suddenly dark outside. He runs into Mil and his friend and Tine collapses onto the ground. Mil and his friend help Tine up and take him to Mil’s car.
At this point Sarawat walks up and demands to know where they’re taking Tine and tells them to back off. Mil says he’s taking Tine to the hospital, but Sarawat keeps telling them to back off. Mil shoves him away and Sarawat insists on taking Tine to the hospital. Mil asks where Sarawat has been if Tine is in such a state and asks if Sarawat can really ask for anything. Tine throws up and Sarawat can only stand there as Mil and his friend put Tine in the car and take him away. Sarawat curses in frustration as they drive away. (You do it to yourself, Sarawat. And yet he’s so pretty even when he’s sad. The power Bright has...)
Tine wakes up in the hospital and Sarawat is there. Tine asks why he’s there and Sarawat says that it’s not what Tine thinks. Tine asks why they were hugging and Sarawat says she was hugging him goodbye and she’s going to study abroad with her boyfriend. (Wow, way to sweep that under the rug.) Pam apologizes for the misunderstanding but Tine still looks off. Sarawat tells him to stop overthinking and trust him and Tine smiles at him, but then it turns out to be a dream. (DAMN IT.)
Instead Mil is there and he helps Tine up and asks if his stomach is still hurting. Tine stays quiet and Mil asks what happened between him and Sarawat. Tine says Sarawat lied about having feelings for Pam and Tine insists that he saw the feelings Sarawat had. Mil asks who Pam is and Tine says she’s Sarawat’s first love. Tine then says he thought Sarawat wrote him a song but he was wrong because Sarawat must have written it for Pam and he feels like an idiot. Tine goes on to say that he hates liars and that he trusts in his love with his whole heart but Sarawat took him for a fool. Tine says he can’t tell what’s real with Sarawat anymore and Mil pats his hand.
Tine goes on to say how much it hurts being lied to by someone you love and Mil tries to console him. (Surprisingly, this is the least creepy Mil has been all season.) Mil then suggests Tine step back if it hurts so much and gives him a hug. Tine seems to think about it as Mil dries his tears.
Mil later takes Tine to his car to take him back. But Sarawat comes and tries to get Tine to talk to him. Tine refuses to come out of the car or talk to him. Mil stands and watches until Tine comes out after Sarawat pesters him enough. Sarawat tries to explain himself and Tine tells him to stop and says he doesn’t want to hear it. He then says he can’t trust Sarawat anymore and goes back into the car. Mil then says he might be an ass, but he’s never been that mean to someone he loves and tells Sarawat to let Tine go if he can’t even properly deal with this kind of situation. Mil then drives off and Sarawat is left standing there again.
Type is at a cafe and being given a menu to try. The barista asks if he’d like extra in case his friend (Man) comes by but Type says that Man doesn’t come around much anymore and he is busy. The barista offers to bring some for him anyway just in case. As he walks away, Type looks around, as if waiting for Man to show up.
Band practice continues for Ctrl-S. Tine goes back to their apartment and Mil offers to let him crash at his place if he doesn’t want to stay there. Tine thanks him but says he already has a friend to stay with. Tine starts to pack up his things. Sarawat blankly practices. Tine goes through the room, digging up his things. He finds the first sticky note where Sarawat said Tine was taken and the photo of them at the photo booth. Each thing has a memory and Tine seems to be reevaluating them. Tine also looks at Sarawat’s jersey and leaves it behind too. He does take his guitar though and Sarawat finally can’t take it anymore and ditches practice.
By that time Tine is done packing and he and Mil prepare to leave. Tine spends another minute standing there and looks at his bracelet. He takes it off and leaves it in the apartment on the desk. The last memory is of them deciding to live together.
Later at night, Phukong gets a call while he’s sitting in some bleachers/stands. He remembers going to see Mil and ordering either 100 honey toasts or telling Mil that he passed the test and he wants a faculty tour form a senior. Mil eventually does the tour instead of making all 100 toasts. (Looks more like Illustration faculty than Architecture TBH.) Mil poitns out a picture and asks if it’s Mil’s and Mil asks how he knows. Phukong points out the person eating toast, and also how it’s initialed.
Mil says there’s one more place to go see and takes him to the roof of the building. Mil says that when he wants to think he goes up there and tells Phukong to do so as well. Phukong says he hopes he gets to have a chance to do so and Mil asks if he says it like that because he actually didn’t pass the test.
Phukong asks how Mil knew. Mil says he searched for the result online and found out. Phukong says he didn’t mean to lie but he needed an excuse to see Mil again. Mil tells Phukong that his band is playing at Jae Tun’s and that Phukong should come. Phukong asks if he really can and Mil says he really can and he leaves to go practice. Phukong does show up but it turns out that night was the night Mil took Tine to the hospital.
The call in the present is Mil apologizing for not showing up and Phukong says he knows why and he understands. Phukong then says he figures Tine needs Mil more than he does and then says he’s going to hang up because he’s got a date. Mil says if that’s true then why does he see Phukong alone on the bleachers. Mil then asks if he should go to him, but Phukong says he had better not because if he walks in he won’t let Mil go to Tine again. Mil says he understands and says goodbye. Phukong wishes him luck and hangs up. Mil walks away and leaves Phukong alone crying. (PHUKONG YOU DESERVE BETTER. GET YOU A REAL MAN.)
Meanwhile Tine is checking Facebook and sees that Team Sarawat’s Wives found out about him and Sarawat breaking up and too many of them are all too pleased. (NEVER READ THE COMMENTS TINE.) Fong takes the phone away from Tine to read them himself and asks if they really think Sarawat will date them even if they’ve broken up and instead tries to distract Tine. He also puts the phone out of reach. (Good idea!) Fong brings up the Scrubb concert they were at at that time last year, but it’s the same concert where Sarawat met Tine and so that makes things worse.
Fong then tries to find something else to talk about that won’t remind Tine of Sarawat. He offers to go to a movie with him, but Tine says he has to be somewhere tomorrow. Tine goes to where the concert was and looks around, remembering that time, imagining Sarawat there. Tine then goes inside a building and sees where the poster once was and thinks about how Sarawat might have seen him there. Tine turns and sees Pam there as well.
Pam asks if he’s there hoping to see Sarawat and Tine says no. He then says he came to reminisce one last time. Pam says it’s unlike her, she came to recall the old Sarawat before he saw Tine. Pam says she’d always liked him and thought he felt the same way and was waiting for him to confess. All until Sarawat met Tine and then his eyes changed. Pam says she knew the truth a long time ago and went to a different uni to forget about Sarawat but then she saw his post with Tine. She noted how Sarawat couldn’t even say he liked her, but he declared his love for Tine on social media and wondered if things could change if he came back. Tine tells her that he thinks he still likes her and Pam remembers what happened after her confession. Tine says Sarawat must have been trying to hide it, but he knows the song is for her and that Sarawat must have felt guilt to Tine.
Pam hands over a USB and tells him to try out the song. Tine asks why and Pam says if he listens to it, he’ll know.
Meanwhile, Type is still sitting alone in the cafe, looking for a Man that will not come. He remembers all the ways Man used to come bother him. The last line is about missing him. A waiter comes up and says Man came by the other day and asked them to return something to him, the handkerchief he used to clean his face.
Type then remembers seeing Man at the spiritual seminars and the time where he said Man wasn’t in his memories. He finally remembers giving him the handkerchief. Type then looks outside and sees someone he thought was Man, but it turns out not to be him.
Meanwhile Sarawat is playing soccer with high schoolers and is confronted by Mil asking why he’s not practicing. Sarawat says it’s none of Mil’s business. Mil says he will play against Sarawat. Mil then says that’s two, that Sarawat has lost to him twice. One goal and Tine. Sarawat asks when he lost Tine to him and Mil asks him to look at himself. Mil then says if his band wins the competition, he’ll ask Tine out and if Sarawat can’t take it, he shouldn’t show up. Mil then leaves.
Man and Boss go to a class/seminar and Boss complains that Man ditched him before. Type shows up to it and Man gets up to leave, but Type stops him and asks why he’s avoiding him. Man says he’s not and Type asks if he’s still mad about what Beam said. Man says he’s mad about Beam because he was insulted, he’s mad Type didn’t try to defend him, and also mad that he is lacking like they all said. Man then says he promised himself that he won’t see Type again until he’s more mature and he doesn’t know if he can ever be more mature in this life.
Type says he can’t because he can’t even keep his promises. Man asks what promise did he not keep and Type says Man promised to see him every day. He came into Type’s life and now wants to disappear which is all just talk. Man says Type has Beam and Type said who said that. Type then said he doesn’t want a luxurious life, he wants a simple one and Man asks if he’s really okay with the fact that Man can’t offer him anything and Type says he’s not. But if Man wants to promise to take care of him then he needs to find a way to do it. Man says he supposes so and Type asks if Man can drive him home today. Man initially jokes he can’t but then says he can. Man also asks didn’t Type drive himself there today and Type said he did, but he wants to drive through the smoke and dust with Man. Man says that’s unexpected and teases Type further about the conditions to mirror what Beam said, but Type says it will be fine. Man agrees then and asks to hug Type.
Man pesters him after the initial denial and gets his hug and Type even hugs him back. Boss comes up as they hug to bug him to ask for BBQ pork. Man kicks him away and goes back to doting on Type.
Back with Ctrl-S, they seem to all be down until Sarawat shows up. Then they all look at him funny and Sarawat apologizes for being late. The band then gets back in swing.
Product placement with Tine, of course. Fong points out that it’s the music competition tomorrow and wonders if Tine is keeping himself pretty for that. Tine says there’s nothing between him at Sarawat now so it’s just routine. Fong points out the guitar and why hasn’t Tine returned it. Tine says he needs to take the name tag off first and then he will. There’s a knock at the door and Fong thinks it’s Ohm. He tells Tine to hide the guitar so he won’t be teased. However, when he opens the door, it’s Sarawat.
Tine comes up to the door when they find out and asks why Sarawat is there. Sarawat asks if he can have his guitar back. Tine pulls it out of its hiding place and returns it and apologizes saying he was going to return it. Sarawat says that’s okay and he’s just borrowing it for the concert and Tine can have it back after. Sarawat asks Tine to come support him and Sarawat says he’ll wait for him and leaves before Tine can reply. Fong comes up behind him and says it doesn’t look like it’s an end for SarawaTine just yet.
The day of the concert, things are a bit hectic. Mil gets a lunch box with his name on it and when he sees the food inside, he runs out after the delivery person and says he didn’t order crispy pork with Chinese broccoli. The delivery person was Phukong and Phukong says he doesn’t want to owe Mil anything. Mil asks when he said Phukong ever owed him anything. Phukong asks if he challenged Sarawat about asking Tine out. Mil says he did and Phukong asks what if he loses. Mil asks what Phukong wants him to do if he loses.
With Tine and friends, Phuk says he should give Sarawat one more chance. (Honestly, Sarawat deserves several IMO, but I understand where Tine is coming from TBH.) Phuk says Sarawat must be really remorseful, but Ohm says Tine shouldn’t go. (Ohm you bitch.) Ohm says that the glass is already broken and so it can’t go back to the way it was. Phuk calls him an idiot because even if you never touch the glass, it will get old and change anyway. (Phuk has the brain cell today, folks!) Fong tells them to stop arguing and says that Tine decided to not go. He then says they should go to the competition and they leave Tine there. Tine quietly sits there and thinks about it.
Earn does product placement in the next scene. Boss, Man, and Type come in and greet Air and then go to see Sarawat. Sarawat says he’s the last to perform and asks his friends to wait for him. Boss asks where Tine is and if he’s coming. Sarawat says Tine will come and asks Type if he knows where he is. Type says Sarawat is the one in a relationship with Tine. Meanwhile, Tine is dusting Fong’s room and finds the flashdrive Pam gave him. He decides to listen to the song on it.
Instead, first Sarawat says it should be Pam’s song, but he can’t seem to write the lyrics and all he wants to do is write a song for Tine, even if he might not want to hear it anymore. We then cut to the concert and Sarawat’s band is about to play their last song. Sarawat looks around for Tine as he comes up to the mic.
Sarawat says he doesn’t know if Tine is listening, but he wants him to know that ever since he knew him, this song has been stuck in his head. Sometimes it sounds nice, sometimes it sounds weird, but the song makes him happy. He then says he never confessed to Pam because he only knew what love was when he met Tine and says the song is named, ‘Tine.’ Sarawat then plugs in his guitar and starts to play. The song lyrics (translated) are pretty legit. Like It is essentially their relationship from Sarawat’s perspective. At that moment, a few lines in, Tine shows up and walks up to the sage and Sarawat stops. He crouches down and asks if Tine will trust him again.
Tine remembers all the times Sarawat has been there for him in his own way. All the ways he’s confessed in one way or another. All the things he’s done for Tine. Tine finally replies that he wouldn’t have been there if he didn’t trust Sarawat. Sarawat returns the bracelet to Tine in front of everyone and tells him to never take it off again. At that time Air comes out to tell everyone to save their voices after cheering for Sarawat and Tine.
Dim and Air say they have the results of the competition and announce Ctrl-S is the winner! Dim then says they have a special surprise which is a live show from Scrubb! Scrubb dedicates the song to those who are supposed to be together and starts to play.
We then get some scenes of Man and Type being cute before the concert. We also see Mil and Phukong meeting because Phukong finally passed. I guess Phukong asked him to date him if he lost.
We then cut to one year later. Music Club again has too many people signed up. Tine is called up to talk about his experience practicing for the test. Tine confesses his ways he messed up and finally comes up to Sarawat, who is there to teach them guitar. Sarawat makes Tine be his student and calls him out for not practicing. It turns out to be him teasing Tine in front of everyone. Apparently everyone is jealous of SarawaTine.
Man and Type are being their usual weird and cute. Mil and Phukong are suddenly cute (no really wtf) and Sarawat is still fixing Tine’s fingers to teach him harder chords.
Still no actual kiss between them, but I think that’s okay. We actually technically had more kisses between them (even though they weren’t mutual kisses) than most pairings? Still, come on GMMTV, I’m surprised you didn’t slip one in. Or did we have to trade the kiss so we could get all the topless scenes?

On Mil in ep 13
One thing that I haven’t seen anyone talk about (I might have just missed it in the tag, there are a lot of posts) concerning Mil. People are like “He just kept pursuing Tine and Phukong is just the replacement” and I have thoughts about the both of these things.
On Phukong first, over the past few episodes, we’ve clearly seen that he (Mil) cared about him even if he was still actively pursuing Tine. He didn’t start liking Phukong in that last scene. There’s the food at the café, there’s the watch (and that effing scene where although he played the brother’s card and that whole thing was really a dick move, it still felt like this is just the best way he could find to let Phukong know his heart was ready, but he still cared (like you don’t give an object that the person will wear everyday if you don’t care about this person.) You could see his heart breaking in that scene at the pitch. He still didn’t feel like it could be his first choice to be with Phukong, but he still cared all throughout the series. So while I still don’t think that they’re together in that last scene, him slowly backing away after that very clear proposal between Sarawat and Tine makes sense. There’s only so much you can take even if he had been a dick and not backed away before. The “Keep your heart open” isn’t like “Take me on a date”, it’s a “Listen, I still like you even after all of this, please if you stop pursuing Tine, don’t close your heart.” Like sure some of this whole situation is due to the bad writing, but like it’s also not coming out of nowhere.
Now about Wat and Tine. In this episode, despite being very protective of Tine, it didn’t feel as much of a “I’m going to force myself on Tine even though he is very clearly with Sarawat” like in episode 11. Sure, it was still a very protective attitude, but more in a “protective mother hen”, in a “you’ve clearly effed up Sarawat so I’m taking over” (regardless of the veracity of the whole thing as we know, but he’s just taking it from Tine’s pov which also makes sense). Did he take advantage of the situation with that line on how Tine should step away? Sure, he likes Tine, but also he likes Tine and Tine HAS been crying and feeling sad over the past few weeks while in a relationship with Sarawat. Now it is because of his overanxious brain and the right to say would have been to encourage them (Tine and Wat) to talk about it and communicate more, but saying to someone that looks unhappy in a relationship to step back is not something unheard of either. Like sure he hugged Tine then, but the whole situation had Mil act less like he did a few episodes ago (when he even patted Tine’s head iirc, which he didn’t do this time) and more like you would if someone you care about is hurting. Now the final thing is the discussion with Sarawat. He didn’t just bumped into him and was like “Yo, now that you’ve broken up, I’ll go and date Tine” which is something he could have done. After all, they HAD broken up. No, he went out of his way to find Sarawat who was playing football with high schoolers (and apparently had been for a few days if you believe what that teenager was saying), beat him at football and then tell him “IF we win, I’ll ask Tine on a date.” Now, he DIDN’T have to say that. He DIDN’T have to come and seek Sarawat out. So now my theory is that he could clearly see how heartbroken Tine was and how much he cared about Sarawat (hence also why even though he still tried his luck at the hospital it wasn’t forceful like before). And had started to accept that Tine would much prefer to be with Sarawat (which is something he definitely hadn’t accepted before) so he’s basically saying to Sarawat (whose band Ctrl S is definitely the favourite for that competition because come on, we all know it) “I’m giving one last chance to make this up. Tine clearly loves you and I want Tine happy. I would prefer it to be with me and I will take my chance if I can, but I’m giving you one last chance. You being here clearly shows that you’re devastated by the break up [nb: and I think he started to realise that at the end of ep 11 when he saw Wat’s reaction to Tine being lost, hence the beginning of ep 12 with the bracelet]. So this is it. If you go back to your band, you’ll win, so decide either go back or say that you’ve given up and then I am free to go.” He’s clearly trying to get a rise out of Sarawat. Hence also with before why I said he’d also started warming up to Phukong, also because he had started to cool down, or at least realise it wouldn’t work, with Tine.
tl;dr: Mil had already started to warm up to Phukong a few episodes ago and it didn’t come out of nowhere that he would open up to Phukong even if I don’t think they’re together yet. On Tine and Sarawat, he’d already started to realise how much they both cared about each other and to back down a bit and him going to see Sarawat on the pitch is clearly to get a rise out of him and give him one last chance to make it right with Tine.

We lucky few.
Alan Cappar was an unlucky man. From birth lady luck had taken one look at him and spurned him a second glance for the next twenty three years he would live. His luck seemed to fail no matter what it was. Family. Education. Love. He simply couldn’t win.
Alan was four when his younger brother was born and from that point on his parents expectations and affections for him weaned away to little more than a sense of parental duty. Sibling love never was an option as his brother excelled where Alan failed academically and his title of ‘older brother’ was more of shame than pride.
Alan wasn’t particularly stupid either. Numbers confused him and his memory for words was limited but he had an eye for art and even an ear for music if he really tried. Sadly what talents he had were so often neglected by his own poor sense of self worth and lack of motivation to try and improve himself that they never saw the light of day past a passable mark in classes no one really counted as ‘educational’.
And love, oh the woes Alan had suffered through seeking this universally desired feeling. His first love, at the tender age of seven was a girl in his school that liked to draw purple cats and talk about how much she loved her favourite show. She would tell him about a character she made for the show and how she would weave said character into the story. She fascinated Alan and he with gentle heart and innocent mind asked if she wanted to be his girlfriend. He arrived to school the next day to the sound of jeers and teasing of his flat out rejection. Purple cat girl avoided him there after and Alan buried his face in his arms and steered clear of love.
Until his third year of high school when he found himself smitten with a club mate (choir, because even if he couldn’t sing solo he at least had the ear to hold a tune with others) and to his shock she agreed to date him. It didn’t last long and though Alan thought it ended without malice or grudge, he came to notice how his classmates looked at him with a different view. Pity. Humour. Sadism. It would be three months later Alan would discover the girl only agreed as part of a bet and only he, the unwitting unlucky fool, was unaware of it. Filled with humiliated rage he confronted the choir girl and demanded an explanation.
What happened next is still uncertain but according to the ‘eye witnesses’ on scene; Alan grabbed the girl by her wrist (he had tried to stop her walking away) and slammed her against the desks (she tripped on her shoelaces and fell toward the desks) and got on top of her (he was still holding her wrist and he fell with her) and began smashing her head against the floor (she hit her head when she fell and he was trying to check she was alright.)
Allan was suspended from school and his parents held nothing back in voicing their outrage at the violence ,though he tried to tell them the real story, but even this was not enough for the universe and so rumours spread of Alan’s ‘violent attack’ that grew more twisted and exaggerated with every retelling. Returning to school was like a flashback to that day in his previous school. The jeering. The sneering and looks of disgust. The bullying began soon after. Students Alan had never spoken to suddenly had grudges and opinions about him to share. Shared through thrash stuffed in his bag and beatings in the bathrooms. Torn notebooks and uniform, sour milk poured over the toilet stall.
And love? Oh how could he think of anything of the sort when every feminine eye that turned his way either pitied him or scorned him without reason.
And education? The teachers looked at him as a delinquent, a lost cause and nuisance to have in their classes.
And family? His brother continued to excel and his tattered clothes and roughed up appearance only drove the nail that he was a thug deeper into his coffin for his parents.
Alan was seventeen when he left his home, left his school and decided to forsake love forever. In his mind he would become a criminal, a gangster that rose in the ranks and became a feared crime boss. He would gain fear and respect and take revenge on all who had made his life hell.
He was twenty when he first killed a man, a bullet in the back of the head ordered by his boss. Alan pissed his pants and cried himself to sleep curled up in a tight ball. He had become a criminal alright, a lackey for dispensing drugs on the streets and a scapegoat for anyone that needed to hide a weapon for a few days. He had imagined killing to be easy, that it was clean and quick and you walked away looking badass. No one ever told him what bits of brain scattered across the wall look like as they drip off the dirty bricks. No mention of how a gun recoils with the shot and you feel it up to your shoulder. And the smell. Oh the smell. No, Alan’s fantasies were far from the real experience and he was unlucky enough in those next few days to gain a sense of morality.
Alan fled. He was found. He was beaten. He was left for dead and through what may have been a single sliver of luck (or more lack of it as you will soon know) he survived. His new found morality withered away as he realised crime was the only way he could keep living. For the final three years of his life Alan would live in a dilapidated motel room, eating cheap take out and selling drugs to teenagers and junkies, each day blending into one another like a bad movie with a recycled plot.
It was tonight, this very night that Alan would shuffle down the street in his tattered clothes, looking like a junkie himself though he swore never to touch the stuff, that he would be spotted by the man that would end his unlucky life.
Why you ask? Why was Alan chosen to die when there are so many unlucky souls in this world?
Now dear friends look here. In this club, on the street Alan walked not one hour ago, there Alan sits tied to a chair. His clothes, no longer the tatters but a shirt of fine silk, cotton slacks neatly ironed and a vest of fine embroider design. See now how he sits with gag in mouth and eyes wide in confusion and fear. He is looking at someone. He is searching for answers in a pale green gaze, in sharp eyes and a line of a mouth that shows neither displeasure or enjoyment.
“You are quite the unfortunate man are you not?”
The man before Alan speaks with such a whisper voice that Alan feels his sanity slip for a moment and the yellow braid that lays over the man’s shoulders takes on the form of a hungry snake hissing the words in mockery before it will pounce.
“I had planned to simply duplicate my form, an act that would take a substantial amount of time and effort but lo and behold you good sir did stroll into view just as we were finishing up here.”
At the mention of ‘we’ Alan finds his gaze shifting to the little girls, the girls dressed like maids that were pouring gasoline over the carpets and tables. The two giants, one of them had grabbed him from the street but he couldn’t figure out which one, were busy setting up what Alan assumed to be explosives on the pillars and support beams around them.
“It is truly an amazing coincidence is it not? A man whom just so happens to be my exact height and body type waltzing onto my doorstep? Of course as far as appearance goes we could not be further but no need to worry about the little things. Speaking of, Lily if you would be so kind?”
Alan shut his eyes tight with a muffled pleading cry as one of the girls poured the gasoline over his head. The fine silk shirt clung to his body and his pants were wet with piss and fuel. The smell burned his nostrils and tears poured down with the gas in a tortured sob. When the pouring stopped he heard the man get up from his seat. Alan cracked open his eyelids to watch in blurry vision as the man dusted off his top hat and picked up his cane.
“I will miss this place. It was a fun endeavour while it lasted and there are certainly some more pleasant memories in its walls.” Alan watched the blonde man talk aloud and look to the girls and giants, who never spoke a word, but the man spoke and responded to words unsaid.
“Yes yes and unpleasant, no need to drag up old wounds. Oh come now you will all have new rooms. No need to take that tone, I gave you all fair warning we would be doing this tonight. Well you will simply have to make do until we reach the new club. I heard that!”
Alan sobbed. His sad unlucky life was about to end at the hands of a lunatic. The lunatic ushered the girls and giants out and fixed his hat atop his head. With cane and cloak in hand the lunatic paused on stepping out and turned back to approach Alan and remove the gag.
“Any final words?”
Alan spluttered and racked his brain for something to say. Something bad ass like ‘fuck you’ or brave like ‘see you in hell’, something that would make his unhappy and unlucky existence in this world mean something.
“........I dun wanna die.....”
“How unfortunate for you.”
The lunatic looked neither disappointed or pleased as he turned his heel and left Alan to sob for the finale minute of his life.
The streets were quiet when Tine stepped out of the Red Viper. It was roughly 3 a.m. and no one but a wandering drug dealer would be up this late. Pulling his cloak on the blonde kicked himself up in a jump that landed him atop the building opposite his beloved club. It was a shame to have to destroy such a fine establishment but if he wasn’t going to be using it than no one else could have it. A trifle petty perhaps but he was hardly a saint by any standards.
One last look and he nodded to Lily. Quite cheerily she pressed the detonate button and in a matter of seconds Alan Cappar, the unlucky man, was engulfed in an inferno of fire and destruction. The bombs were intended to implode rather than explode but debris still went flying from the hellish building, taking out most of the street and the buildings around it.
“Oh dear... Perhaps we should have gone with just fire after all. .... Because I am not giving Hiruma the pleasure of burning my possesions! In any case let us depart, this is sure to draw a crowd.”
And with a swish of his cloak the eccentric gentleman known as Sir Tine, owner of the Red Viper disappeared into the night.
Come the next few hours, when the fire is quelled and the rubble cleared away a body would be found. Charred black and unrecognisable the forensics would pick away at the charcoal of flesh and clothes and decide that Alan Cappar was the corpse of Sir Tine.
And where did the real Tine and his staff go?
Oh dear friends.
How unlucky you’ll never know.

how do you begin to write a story anyway? and how do you make that story your own? and when you are finally able to write a story, how do you protect and continue to fight for this story?
let me tell you about the three times i saw the movie: the first was on opening day. as all opening day viewings go, it was an overwhelming visceral experience. i looked at the movie as a whole. i looked to the actors, specifically quen and liza, the location. it was sensory overload. the combination liza, quen, direk cathy, korea had me buzzing, and excited. i knew what had happened, but i don’t think i could have given you a rundown. there was proper shock, because i wasn’t expecting the story, the comedy, the twists and risks it took, the performances. it’s one thing to believe in what actors can do, it’s another to dream up characters for them to play, but to get lost in a story, in portrayals. that’s pretty special. i was in a proud daze that resulted in an instagram word vomit.
the second time i watched was alone, because john wick just doesn’t cut it for me, and i wasn’t about to wait around two hours for the father. this time, i looked inward. this viewing was a lot harder. by this time it was clear to me that this wasn’t a typical rom/com/dram movie. for some reason, i looked towards the family units, and then inward, into myself. that’s when i got it. i finally understood, how the storytelling and the direction were different. ‘real’ was a keyword used in the junket, and real is the kind of love that is all encompassing. those stars in the lover’s eyes, have died, long ago, that the explosion no longer burns. all that’s left is a blackhole of fear, and fight, and less than stellar family histories.
the third time i watched was with friends who have also seen the movie multiple times, some more than my two times. some three times in a day. she wins. i knew the movie by heart so this time i experienced the movie with them and through them. there was laughter, discussion, and because, for some reason, i did not cry. i watched my friends cry. i was jealous. don’t get me wrong, it was heavy, it took my breathe away, and it hurt, to the point of immobility, but i did not cry. i was stunned.
‘my ex and whys’ is a story of love in the age of hyper-connectivity, instantaneous validation, entitlement, and information overload. it is a story of how our family, and friends shape our world. how we deal with our inherited wounds, and how we break free of the structures we were born into.
young, impressionable calixta ferrer doesn’t settle for anything less than her very own mr. stick to one. she finds herself in heaven with gio martinez, a boy whose reputation is in dire need of saving. in her family, she never saw any man who stayed, and he came from a family of men who always left. they fell quick and deep, and wide eyed and fearful to an extent, fully aware that they each carry their family’s frailties and emotional baggages. it was true love, until their demons. caught up with each of them in very different ways. both hearts are casualties of their family history, and poster children for their friends failed forays into love. we get to see sneak peeks to cali and gio’s love story. we also get to see the nature of their breakup, and clues to their history sprinkled the throughout. we were given enough.
the uniqueness of this film lies in its narrative. it asks the audience to look to the supporting cast, and take their experiences into account, to understand how it affects the leads. cali and gio, save from a few flashbacks, and drunken episodes, and powerful quiet moments did not spell their struggles out for us. we were asked to look to how they treat their friends and family too. the root of cali’s struggle to forgive, gio’s effort to ‘step into the light’ so to speak, even cali turning into a monster and realizing how hard it i to apologize is rooted in, and reflected upon, and rooted in their friends’ experiences, and family history. the movie feels so deceivingly intimate despite its considerable supporting cast. the support cast kind of underscores every cali and gio moment, subtly so, without overpowering the leads and the core story. it is for this reason that the movie’s supporting cast must be commended. joey marquez, and gio’s band of brothers, especially joross gamboa, provided a strong, and rowdy contrast that further reinforces gio’s and struggle to change. ara mina, arelene mulach, and cai cortez as the perpetually heartbroken women in her life laid a sturdy foundation for cali’s struggle to trust. gio could have had more lines, and cali could have confronted her dad, but because of the strength of the family units, those moments were unnecessary. speaking of supporting characters, ryan bang wins the supporting cast of the year award. he pulled double duty as a comic relief, a hysterically effective one, at that. as the conjugal friend, he served as the tie that binds cali and gio, even when they were at odds. his sub-plot provided referential perspective for cali to understand what gio went trough, without being so explicit. being korean with a pinoy heart, ryan is also a cohesive force for the film.
now, this is where i talk about liza and enrique. knowing what they are capable of, believing in what they can do and dreaming for them, is one thing, but to see them in character is an entirely different experience. to say that they halve matured as actors is an understatement. liza’s iconic scene went viral for a reason. the cinema went silent for a reason. i do not know how she does it, but she manages to surprise me every single time. i have no words for what she was able to accomplish in this movie. i am so proud. quen, started out as a reliable one in my eyes. on eily, his difficulty with ethan was a talking point. i thought he was at his most stable on that ffilm, and up to that point, he was. until this movie came along, and he reached new heights of stability and quiet. it is said that gio is quen in his simplest form. i like to call it his most introspective. he was strong and reliable and empathetic.this is where i reiterate that liza and quen’s is a true partnership. i understand the praise afforded liza on this film, but i don’t think she would be as effective as cali, if not for quen, listening, letting her go through what her character would go through, cali’s breakdown wouldn’t have been as powerful,if quen’s gio. i love that gio was quiet the whole time, that quen pulled back, that he elected to hurt for her, while hurt for what he had done. i had a question after seeing the movie for the first time. gio was a victim of circumstance. he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. technically, it wasn’t a clear minded choice, but cali conveniently heard it on the phone. i love that gio owned up to the pain he had caused and not get defensive on her with technicalities. truly, when a person tells you you’ve hurt them, you have no right to tell them you did not. that is exactly what gio had done. there is a sigh of pride, and speechlessness every time i have to find words for iza and quen’s gifts. they are too brilliant and too precious for words.
this cast can only be as amazing as the profiles written for them. the creatives are that brilliant. this brilliance is written all over the tine of the movie, which started out light and funny, before it dramatically got under your skin, and then injecting doses of humor to break the weight of emotion.
let’s talk about favorite moments:
the girl and boy in the rain
seven minutes in heaven
angry cali
the social media exchange between bakit list girl and dahil list boy
a gay jeffrey tam, who would’ve thought?
how his brother dealt with the bashers
gio trying to impress cali, their banter
the tonal change between funny and painful
vengeful cali, the funny and the painful
the stairwell confrontation, best performances, best direction/motivation, the best use of 8++ hours!
everything lee
everything korea
the shower of golden yellow leaves
‘would you have said yes?’
drunk cali
‘tayaan mo naman ako…’ moment, soooo underrated!
every time gio called cali ‘baby girl.’
the last chase, the traffic love declaration
this is a story of love,
a story of hope,
and a story of courage…
for people held back and broken by their histories. you could be cali, rendered fearful and immobile by abandonment, or gio who is fighting to break free of family patterns. whoever you are. you deserve a second chance. you deserve love. and you deserve the strength to go out and find it. you deserve to write your own story.
have i told you i did not cry in the three times i saw the movie?
well, there go the tears….
i knew it!
(congratulations team, you’ve done your job well. thank you for all the feels! ~ pao, february 26, 2017

The warfare against these quintessential enemies.
I have a just-turned-five-year-old daughter who is pretending to be a zombie airplane.
She is currently dragging her teeth against the skin around my arms.
“Skye, are you a zombie or an airplane?”, as I wince in baby pain.
“Airplane”, she said.
“Then why are you biting me? Airplanes don’t bite!”
“Yes they do daddy!”
Okey. It’s very hard to argue with a kid. And it’s a good thing because kids somewhat don’t care. They just want to enjoy being a human.
I wish sometimes I was just a 5-year old zombie airplane kid who doesn’t have these quintessential enemies.
Quintessential what?
Why quintessential? And who are these “enemies”?
Adulthood brings these perfect, common enemies like fear, and, urhmm.. another two dozes of fear. And I, as an adult, experience these.
I don’t fear anything at this point in my life [true!]. I am just saying that I am experiencing them because they always attack me head-on, and most of the times without any pre-imminent warning.
My last blog wonders the question if I, as a pastor, a leader, a servant of our Most High God, am allowed to experience anxiety?
Absolutely.
But I am not allowed to be overcome and be defeated by it.
Why? Because I am built by God to be victorious, through the cross.
Easier said than done
I want you to read this Scripture from the Holy Bible and tell me your thoughts: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. “
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Apostle Paul encourages us through the power of the Holy Spirit, to not be anxious ABOUT A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G.
So God is telling us that if we can’t sleep at night, while thinking and thinking about these struggles and worries, that we should not a single tiny bit be anxious, but pray.
And God is also telling us that if we have these massive situations (financial or health-related), and it looks like nothing positive is happening, that we should not have these panic attacks and not be tinee-weenie but depressed, but instead, thank God himself.
Easier said than done right?
(Let’s be honest here, it’s really easier said than done).
Quintessential right? Everyone has these, but why do we still experience these fearful daylight moments, or these sleepless nights, knowing that there is a PROMISE?
Let the battle begin!
Warfare is not just physical, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual.
Apostle Paul told us that he himself is experiencing warfare. [Read 2 Corinthians 12: 1-10]. He went to a place where supernatural things happened, and he experienced being weak. And he hated being weak, so he asked God to take these “weaknesses” [thorns in the flesh] so that there would be a “victorious miracle” that we could usually testify at the pulpit during Sunday services.
But God, instead of taking these thorns away from Paul [so that the torment would stop and relaxation would come], let these thorns remain. And He explained to Paul these Words, which is very hard to analyze if you are experiencing these yourselves, “My [God’s] GRACE is SUFFICIENT for you, for my power is MADE PERFECT in [human’s] weakness” 2 Corinthians 12:9
So God’s power is made perfect not in human strength but in weakness. God’s power is glorified with our sufferings, and anxieties.
How long God? How long?
I thought my faith is already way sky-high, until a Burj Khalifa of a “challenge” came crashing against me. And this experience-tested, hope-filled pastor’s faith was challenged too.
I was shook, literally. But I am not alone.
I believe King David is one of the most anxious person who ever lived. Check out his cry to God in Psalms 13:2:
“HOW LONG must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? HOW LONG will my enemy triumph over me?”
So I have also asked God these, since I have a relationship with Him as my Abba Father. And I believe asking these is not wrong because God is the God of answers. And how could we have answers if there are no questions right?
But everytime I ask Him these questions, I discern and envision Him not saying a Word, and is just smiling, like He has this grand plan for me to be victorious with this warfare. It’s like when I was a kid, and we were driving for hours at an unknown destination, at one point asking my dad, “How long until we get there?”
And my dad just stood there driving, not saying a word.
Maybe now I don’t know how long will I be in this warfare, but I am so sure that I will be victorious in the end because He has a promise. I don’t know why God is not doing anything I am expecting, but I know He is doing something behind the scenes.
My faith is shaken, but His grace is enough. Worrying is and never was an option as long as I am in His steadfast love. God doesn’t relent disaster over us. He doesn’t want us to fail. And for that, thank You.
But for this moment Abba Father, I desire your promise of PEACE.
