chloe for 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 20 heehee :3
[ask game] YEAHHHH CHLOE TIMEMEME!!!!!
1. What kind of person is your OC in a crisis? Are they calm and collected? Do they panic? Or are they chronically the cause?
I mean. She is calm, usually. She likes to pretend she's calm more than anything, she wants to be well adjusted and collected during a crisis so bad but she just can't be. So she just. lies through her teeth and pretends to be calm (not amazingly)
2. Is your OC a loner or a social butterfly? Are they satisfied with how they come across to other people?
Social! Chloe likes going out a lot, enjoys making friends and even acquaintances on the regular! She's sillay like that (not relatable). As to how she comes across to other people she just doesn't.. really care? I mean she cares a little, but the general public's opinion? Eh.
4. Does your OC have a failed friendship or relationship they still think about? What happened? Is it an unresolved regret or is there a chance for reconciliation?
Hm. Carver.
It isn't failed in a sense that they don't care for one another, or that they don't love each other, or that they don't grow to understand one another. It's just the regret that their issues were never really about one another as people, just.. about the situation. The carelessness in which Chloe wanted to live and in the anxiousness Carver knew she had to live. The clashing of those two factors was intense most of the time, but it is still something she regrets. Regrets not being able to... just be with Carver in the way she wishes.
5. Does your OC have a signature weapon and/or attack? How long did they train to master it?
Blood magic for sure- but specifically kind of... slashing her wrists/palm open and infusing her blood with ice magic so she just kills bitches with blood shards. (IS this possible? i dont know its cool though). learned it from her bestie merrill <3
8. What was your OC's most embarrassing moment? Does it still bother them or are they able to shrug it off?
Hmmmm probably when she was a teen, like seventeen maybe, she tried asking out a girl for the first time ever and oh was it so scary. She had hyped herself up all night "You got this, you've got mom's looks plus dad's charm has to work!" and this would've worked if Chloe didn't get so nervous her magic acted up. And burnt every flower she picked to a charcoal-y mess. She managed to pick SOME only for it to flare up again in the moment when she gave them. she was dying internally
9. Is your OC laid back or do they thrive on drama? What role do they play in their group of friends/associates?
Chloe's pretty laid back, usually acting as more of a... passive bystander to personal dramas within her friend group. Fenris and Anders want to kill each other with hammers? Okay, she's gonna drink ale with Isabela, Varric and Merrill.
11. What does your OC believe in? God(s)? Monsters? Love? The power of unbreakable bonds of friendship to overcome any obstacle? The ability of money to open any door? Or are they indifferent?
Chloe's pretty indifferent. She believes in people, in the good of people. She really wants to believe in it, she doesn't know what else to believe in.
13. How important are romantic relationships to your OC? Do they prefer casual sex, short flings, or long term relationships? Do they want to get married or are they content with what they have? Or do they have no interest in romance whatsoever?
Chloe's relationship with romance is complicated. She yearns for it on a deep level yet doesn't know how to act around it, she can't stand the thought of marriage and yet if she is in a relationship all she wants to do is marry the woman she is dating.
When she gets with Isabela it's all very "Hell yeah the hottest woman in all of Thedas is about to sit on my face" but when she catches feelings it's like... "Can we please hold hands i want you to my mom during dinner. if that's okay. i'm sorry that was so cringe i can show my dick instead"
She does prefer long term relationships. she can't imagine not wanting it
14. How important is friendship to your OC? Do they prefer to have one or two close friends or a large group of casual friends? Or do they prefer their own company over that of others?
SHE LOVES HER FRIENDS!!!!!! SHE LOVES HAVING AN INNER CIRCLE AND OUTER CIRCLE OF FRIENDS!!!!!!!! SHE LOVES BEING IN BIG GROUPS OF PEOPLE AND BEING IN THE COMPANY OF HER LOVED ONES!!!!!!!
15. What places hold significant meaning or memories for your OC? Do they have a positive or negative association with those places?
Kirkwall. It's like, yeah obviously. But so much of what Chloe is and becomes, it's all tied to that rotten city isn't it. She's met everyone she cares about in recent memory there, met the love of her life, learned everything she could about her magic, and truly experienced a semblance of freedom. It's both Hell on earth and paradise at the same time
20. Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?
mmmm no. Chloe is pretty upfront with all her actions even if they ended up being terrible. She owns up to the way she helped Anders, unknowingly, get supplies for blowing up the Chantry. She hates that about herself, but can't lie about her involvement. It's things like that, she couldn't ever truly lie about things of her fault. she could lie about the size of the statue in her honour while standing right in front of it, but never things she has actually done (this is where she and Varric clash a lot)
#THANK YOUUU for asking about chloe i missed chloe#the hawke ever#she's so. ough. she is so AGH#not normal or sane. thank u ghost#oc: chloe hawke#roscoe rambles

Okay Smallville friends, here we go: finale time.
"And now, the series finale of Smallville" WHAT IF I'M ALREADY SAD
"Special Guest Star: Michael Rosenbaum" wow spoilers much?? I mean not for me obviously but for OG viewers. I would have SCREAMED.
Lois, sweetie, he could be saving people every minute he's doing anything, by that logic. Why is his working at the Planet, etc, any different than spending time with you?
Aww, bye Luthor Mansion. You've been a fun place to stage so, so many Clex fics. Hmm I wonder if there are more fics set there or in the barn loft? I'm torn between them, personally.
Kind of rich for Martha to complain about Clark moving on when she hasn't been around for years. "This is our home" okay but you left him here. He's had to cope without you. It's not fair to put the responsibility of keeping the past alive on his shoulders alone.
Oh no his vows 😭😭😭
I feel like we don't have enough time to wrap up this (rather dull) Darkseid plotline AND have a wedding AND bring Lex back? I know this is a double episode but still. Although I suppose Lex's scene will be short and right near the end.
Oh no her vows 😭😭😭
Again I ask: has there ever been a TV wedding that just goes smoothly?
At least Lois's dress is nicer than Lana's. That bow haunts me.
Is he gonna walk down with her AGGHHHH this is so sweet 😭
Uh oh. Lois girl, pay attention, that's not the right ring. Oh thank god for Chloe.
Can't believe they're doing this to Oliver ☹️ hasn't he suffered enough?
So wait: did Clark Luthor not have powers? Did I miss that? I swear he was throwing people around and shit.
Lol is that a Herve Leger bandage dress on Lois?
Agggh Tom does vulnerable so well. "I can't, Dad" just like a little baby boy, I weep.
OH GOD I KEEP FORGETTING ABOUT ALT!LIONEL, it's a fucking jump scare every time.
Oh my god so this Lex is a fucking Frankenstein?? That's...weird. A Frankenlex.
OH MY GOD HE'S GONNA TAKE TESS'S HEART
IS THAT MICHAEL?? Wait probably not, we didn't see his face.
YES GIRL KICK THEIR ASSES
YES GIRL KILL THAT OLD BASTARD!
God this Darkseid CG is so bad
Omg omg omg omg omg OH MY GODDDDD
Oh I hate when they take an already blurry photo and then CSI-style ENHANCE! it to magically unblur it
OH MY GOD OKAY HERE WE GO
I see one of the Franken-pieces was his sassy ass mouth. God I've missed him.
Lex, honey, you've been back for thirty seconds and you're already waxing poetic about how he says your name??? I see another of the Franken-pieces was the need to make every interaction so incredibly gay. "Yet...with a hopeful finish" oh my god honestly
Apologies in advance: I might have a comment on every line of this dialogue.
Oh dear, you can see the bald cap a bit when he raises his eyebrows. I remember Michael said the bald cap was more trouble than just shaving his head lol
Lord, it wouldn't be a proper Lex return without a history speech. HONEY I'VE MISSED YOUUU!
"that's the thing about memories: you can't forget them" mmmm I don't think that's true baby.
Oh gosh the vitriol.
"You and I - we will both be great men. Because of each other." Honey the WAY you talk about the two of you. THE VOICE CRACK. "We have a destiny together, Clark, only on different sides."
Everything he says sounds like a love confession I'M SO SORRY BUT IT DOES
Stop wait one fucking minute here. The last piece of Clark's little "am I strong enough to face this threat" puzzle, the last person to give him the courage and the conviction to do what he needs to do - is LEX FUCKING LUTHOR??? NOT LOIS NOT HIS PARENTS NOT CHLOE BUT LEX??????? oh my god what is happening that is INSANE OF THEM
I need to watch that again. Gosh I haven't done that since the Lexana scene from Fracture.
HAHA I missed Lex's joke about Lionel's heart the first time around. Why is he so funny
God Michael is so fucking good. He just elevates the tone. It's really what's been missing from these last seasons. The others are good - Tom is so good, I'm not discounting him at all - but Michael is on another level.
Hmm seemed a bit too easy killing the Prophets
Oh poor John Glover. This is Not Good. He was always so suave and cool as Lionel, this is a step down.
Aww look how far our sweet boy has come 😭 I'm so proud of him.
HE'S FLYING 😭😭😭
OH I DIDN'T KNOW WE GOT MORE LEX I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE SCENE WITH CLARK
Ahh jeez. I kinda came around to Tess. She wasn't Lex but she was fun.
Oh riiiiiiight, I forgot he gets his memory wiped. Again.
OH MY GOD THE LAST MEMORY IS HIM AND CLARK OF COURSE IT FUCKING IS
Lol what the fuck does he think is happening, now that he can't remember?
THE LUTHORCORP SIGN TURNING INTO LEXCORP THAT WAS SO RAD
Our baby finally in the suit 😭
Girl I don't think they just let you film the President like that. That camera is gonna be taken away IMMEDIATELY.
Oh yeah I forgot about Jimmy. That was...a choice.
ALL HAIL PRESIDENT LEX!!!!
"yes Miss Lane" "that's so hot" girl yes it is.
Oh the theme 😭 what an ending
That was so great. A bit hokey in parts, but overall such a satisfying finale. What a ride.
#i need to recover emotionally#but I do want to revisit the first few seasons#for the Clex of it all#I'm sorry but that's not going anywhere#my days of yelling about Smallville are not over#thanks for coming along on the journey Tumblr#there's no other place I could imagine getting to experience this show the way I have#10x21 finale#smallville#not spn

i loved you first. p.2
pairing: Xavier Plympton x Reader
word count: 4,391
warnings: au! in present time, language, a big oops coming
not entirely proof-read.
*title inspired by joan’s song*
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | epilogue
One Year Later
"NO ONE, NO ONE, NO ONEEEEEEE, CAN GET IN THE WAY OF WHAT I FEEL FOR YOUUU!"
"YOOOU! YOOOOU!"
You covered your ears as Montana and Brooke screamed sang along to Alicia Keys, while in the kitchen finishing up dinner in their shared apartment. You were recently promoted at work, and they wanted to celebrate with you.
Brooke sniffed, "I miss Ray." she said as she poked at her homemade noodles with a fork.
"It's only been four hours!" Montana interjected, meeting your eyes as the song ended. You smiled softly, taking a long sip from your glass of wine.
"I know," she said, "He's always gone. I miss him."
"It's too bad the others couldn't join us," Montana said as she stirred something in a pot. "We haven't had the group together in a minute."
You silently bobbed your head as 2006-era Rihanna came on, attempting to keep your mind away from Xavier Plympton.
It's already been a year since you first met his girlfriend, Chloe. You couldn't believe how fast 2019 seemed to go. Now, you were counting down the days you had with him before he moved into his new apartment with her.
When you first heard the news, you assumed he was pulling your leg. You were having a slumber party in the living room, a few drinks in when he accidentally blabbed to you that they were looking for a new place. He admitted he wanted to tell you over dinner the next day, which would probably have gone a little better. Instead, you spent the rest of your Twilight marathon holding back tears and wishing Jacob Black would ride out of town with Chloe on his back and disappear forever.
But after a good night's sleep, you realized it was selfish of you. You congratulated him and decided that maybe it was time for a fresh start for yourself. Before your promotion, you'd barely make enough to pay the rent all on your own. Brooke and Montana had gladly offered you their empty space, which you wanted to accept. But after your salary doubled, you'd be able to renew your lease for another year.
Even after all this time, it seemed you never really got to know Chloe. She was still friendly, but there was always an uncomfortable aura between the two of you. You had a few things in common with her, which helped make conversation whenever Xavier wasn't around, but it never exceeded that.
You assumed you were being paranoid when she’d seem to always be looking at you, her eyes observing your every move when you were being your normal self with Xavier. Or how her voice always seemed to become sickly sweet when you’d be minding your own business, hardly remembering they were even there.
"Earth to y/n?"
You glanced up to see Brooke place a large bowl of spaghetti in the middle of the table. Montana was already sitting down, a half-eaten piece of garlic bread in her mouth.
"I'm sorry, what?" you asked, embarrassed.
Brooke giggled, "I asked if you were alright. You're quiet tonight - more than usual."
You nodded, helping yourself to her spaghetti as the girls gathered food onto their plates. "I'm sorry. I just keep thinking of Xavier moving out."
The girls nodded understandingly, "You know, the offer is still open," Montana said, smiling at you. Her blonde hair was pinned back, and she looked vibrant as her eyes observed you kindly. "You haven't lived alone in years, it's okay if you're not comfortable with the idea."
You nodded appreciatively, "I know, and thank you both, but... I think it will be good for me," you said, picking up your fork to smash at the bits of lettuce on your plate. The girls watched with amused expressions. "Maybe I'll finally stop moping over him and get myself a boyfriend or a girlfriend, who knows?" you said.
"I think you should tell him how you feel, y/n," Brooke said simply, drinking her wine as if she was commenting about the weather.
You laughed dryly, "You know Xavier, he'll be pissed I kept it from him this long. We tell each other everything."
"I don't pretend to be an expert on love, y/n, but I say that if he is upset about it, fuck him." Montana shrugged, and you heard the sound of Brooke kicking her under the table. "Ouch! Come on, who wouldn't want to date y/n? He's an idiot for not seeing how she clearly feels about him."
"Xavier is our friend. We all know he can be dense and naive, but it's part of his charm." Brooke defended him before turning her eyes to you. "Why is it that you never made a move?"
The room got quiet as Montana's Spotify playlist came to a stop. You took a few bites of food, pleased that your friends gave you a few seconds to get your thoughts together. That was one of the things you loved about them.
"I guess I was just afraid of ruining what we had," you admitted, smiling a little. "We've known each other since elementary school; all of us, and the only ones who ever progressed into the romantic territory were Brooke and Ray."
Brooke's cheeks flushed, and you knew it wasn't from the wine.
Montana chuckled, a light blush coating her cheeks. "About that..."
You and Brooke gave her a quizzical look.
"Senior prom..." Montana nodded, "Chet and Me."
Your mouth fell open simultaneously with Brooke, who cackled as Montana blushed a deeper red. You joined in on the laughter as Brooke held her stomach, tears threatening to spill over.
"What is so funny!?" Montana yelled over your laughing, now slightly irritated. "I went with Jimmy Darling, remember!? He got drunk and fell asleep near the food table, so Chet and I decided to skip, and..." she laughed now, refusing to look you in the eye. "It was alright."
"Oh, my God! Why didn't you tell us!?" you said after containing your laughter. Brooke was still giggling, complaining her sides were hurting.
"It didn't even last long, I think I blocked it out of my memory for a while... but he is packing..." Montana finished.
As you finished up dinner, Brooke refused to delve too deeply into her sex life with Ray. You three finished two bottles of wine and were now lounging in the living room in your pajamas, debating on watching a horror movie or a comedy, and you were already thinking about the snacks.
After deciding on the original Friday the 13th, the movie was about fifteen minutes in when a message from Xavier flashed on your phone. You glanced at it.
Xavier: Hey, did you leave the front door unlocked?
No, I made sure it was locked like always. Why?
Xavier: I think someone has been in here. Your room is a mess!
You straightened up, glancing towards the girls who were cuddled up, munching on popcorn. Xavier sent you a picture of your room you had just cleaned the night before. A few of your dresser drawers were cracked open, and clothes were peeking through, definitely searched through. Your bed was haphazardly made, and your work clothes were strewn on the floor.
"Oh no," you said, causing Brooke and Montana to look at you.
"What's wrong?" Brooke asked, concerned.
"Xavier thinks someone broke into our apartment!" you said, giving them an alarmed look.
"Oh shit, let's go!" Montana said, and the three of you wasted no time in driving to your home.
-
"Well?" Montana demanded as you and Xavier entered the apartment after speaking to the police.
"They said it looks like someone had a key made. There's no damage to the door, and y/n says it was locked, so..."
"It was, I always double-check. Always..." you said, sitting down in the empty seat next to Brooke, who put a comforting arm around you.
"Who in the hell would have a key made?" Montana asked before she paused. Her eyes looked wild, before finally settling on you and Brooke. You gave her a confused look.
"I don't know. It's not like I have any friends other than you guys." Xavier said sarcastically. The one thing about Xavier is that when he was scared, he was more than likely to be agitated, and it always showed.
"Did you give one to Chloe?" Montana asked.
"No, I never-..." Xavier paused, throwing a glare in her direction. "What are you implying?"
"I'm not implying anything, I'm just eliminating suspects, is all." Montana defended, quirking an eyebrow at Xavier. "y/n, have you given a key to anybody?"
You shook your head, hoping this didn't cause a fight, "No, I have not."
"See?" Montana offered, looking rather smug, "We're just eliminating, that's all."
Xavier glanced at you, and you nodded encouragingly. He seemed to like that, nodding himself and rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm sorry, I'm kind of freaked out..."
"That's understandable, Xavier. You don't have to apologize." Brooke said, shooting a small glare at Montana, who hid a smirk. "Do you guys want us to stay?"
"Yeah, if they come back, it's four against them," Montana offered, looking delighted at having the chance to kick some ass.
"No, you ladies can go home," Xavier said, before smiling at you. You felt your heart flutter. "We'll be alright."
After bidding the girls goodnight, Xavier plopped onto the empty cushion next to you. He glanced at you longingly, before saying, "I'm sorry if I scared you."
You shook your head, "Please, do not apologize. If it were me, I would have called the SWAT team."
Xavier laughed, "I don't doubt that! Seriously though, I'm glad neither of us was home."
You nodded, "But it doesn't change the fact that they were in my room looking for something..."
Xavier frowned now, thinking, "I know... We checked every room, nothing else looked out of place."
"You're right, nothing has been stolen..." you said.
You sat there for about an hour, talking through your day. Xavier gave you his full attention, even when you'd hear his phone vibrating in his pocket every few minutes. He ignored it, asking you questions until you yawned loudly, falling into the back of the couch.
"y/n?" he asked, his voice sounding tired.
"Yes?" you whispered.
"I'm glad you're safe."
2.
You almost forgot about the home invasion completely. Your landlord changed the locks, issuing you a new key. Xavier's stress eased as the week passed, and soon he was back to his old self.
You didn't think much of it when Chloe started acting oddly friendly towards you, smiling at you or asking you questions about what you were doing whenever you saw each other. You assumed it was because she was bored when Xavier's attention was elsewhere.
The group was finally getting back together, and you found yourself having to face going to Chloe's place for the first time. You dressed for the hot weather, while Montana silently got ready beside you. You wondered if she was alright. She usually was bubbly before a night out. Brooke was just now getting back from her shift, occupying the shower in the other bathroom.
"Do you think this dress is too short?" Montana suddenly asked, turning around in her leopard print, knee-length dressed.
"Nope," you said honestly, "It's the perfect length for your height."
"Aww, thank you, y/n," she said, though her tone didn't match her words.
You nodded, running the brush through your hair one last time.
"Are you okay?" you finally asked, looking at her through the mirror.
Montana seemed uncomfortable, and you regretted asking. Montana never liked to be pushed for answers, especially if it regarded something personal. However, she looked at you as if she wanted to tell you, so you patiently waited.
"You know the guy I've been messing around with, Trevor?" she asked.
You nodded, "Yes, why?"
She shuffled in front of the mirror, taking her makeup bag and digging through it quickly. She often did this when she was nervous. Montana started applying mascara, using it as a ploy to avoid looking at you. "Well, I kind of had him do some digging on Chloe Smith."
Your eyes widened as Montana nonchalantly applied her makeup. "You what?"
"You can't get mad!" Montana said, switching the wand to the other eye. "I kept thinking about it, and it doesn't make sense. Like you said the other night, we've all been friends for years. You and Xavier never gave us keys to your apartment. Chloe has been around for only a year. She probably feels left out, and since you live with Xavier, it looked like a red flag to me." she said before observing her work. Montana continued, "So I had Trevor ask his brother to look into her, he's a real estate agent and has access to background checks. So he looked up her name, and he didn't find much, but..."
You egged her on, "But?"
"Long story short, she's a bit of a stalker," Montana said brightly, turning to look at you. "There's a restraining order against her for obsessive stalking."
Your mouth fell open at this, wondering why Montana looked so damn cheerful about this.
"I know what you're thinking. I think it's great news if Xavier finds out who she really is, then he'll break up with her and be with you."
As much as you wanted to rejoice and praise the Lord above, you knew this was wrong. "Montana, that's not right!"
"Why not?" she pressed, looking through her makeup once again.
"We don't know if she was the one in my room. Anyone could have a key made-."
"Exactly! She's been with Xavier for this long. If the neighbors saw, they'd think nothing of it. Trevor's brother agreed, he said people have gotten into unavailable apartments by falsifying keys and claiming they live there. It's not that hard to do, as scary as that sounds."
"I don't understand what she could have been looking for," you said, frowning. Your heart rate increased, wondering if Montana was possibly right.
"I don't know, pictures, a diary, a vibrator?" Montana joked until she saw the look on your face. "y/n?"
Your face paled as you quickly left the bathroom, going to your bedroom, and promptly digging through your dresser. You heard Montana, and now Brooke calling your name as you threw clothes all over the place. Your worst fear was confirmed when you realized your journal was gone.
"y/n!?" Montana asked, stopping in the doorway. Brooke was behind her, dressed and ready to go. She looked concerned.
"My journal is gone," you choked.
Montana gasped, placing a hand over her mouth. Her eyes were excited, though. Brooke looked more lost, looking between the both of you with a crinkled face. "y/n? What is going on!?"
"Montana, I think you might be right," you said, looking at her.
Brooke looked impatient, and you slowly gathered your clothes with shaky hands as Montana filled her in on the possible scandal. Brooke gasped at the appropriate times and quietly asked if they should tell Xavier or not.
"I don't know!" you moaned, sprawling out on your bed. "He's going to be so pissed at us!"
"Not if we catch the bitch red-handed!" Montana interjected, coming to stand in front of you. "Look, y/n, we're all in this together. If it turns out we were wrong, which is a very low possibility, I will personally take responsibility for it."
"I couldn't ask that of you," you said flatly.
"Too bad, I'll do the same," Brooke piped up from behind Montana, smiling at you. "I always thought something was off about her. She won't get away with this."
Montana turned to her, grinning. "Get it, babe."
Brooke blushed and glowed the entire way to Chloe's place as you thought over a plan.
-
As you waited for the boys to arrive, you were getting a headache thinking of all the things you wrote in your journal about Xavier. It's probably been well over two months since you wrote in it last. Still, you gushed about your best friend more than once, praising how much you loved him.
The atmosphere in Chloe's home was warm, and you hated that. Brooke and Montana were helping her in the kitchen while you lounged on a chair to keep up appearances. Brooke had brought you a hard lemonade, which remained untouched as your head got worse by the minute.
The television was on low; MTV was playing an 80s rewind, and you attempted to distract yourself, focusing on George Michael. You occasionally heard Chloe's voice chime in, and your friends laughing at whatever she said. As much as you hated to admit it, you felt left out.
It wasn't long before there was a series of knocks on the door. You shot up, calling out that you'd get it. You were almost knocked onto the couch when a tall, redhead breezed past you. Chloe swung open the door, squealing at the sight of Ray, Chet, and Xavier holding bottles of alcohol and a bag of snacks. Xavier was barely in the door when Chloe was all over him, causing Ray to roll his eyes and push through.
Chet met your eyes and smiled, and you couldn't help but smile back.
Montana and Brooke came out after hearing the commotion, and for a few minutes, there was loud laughter and talking as everyone began to settle in. Xavier was dressed like he came straight out of a magazine cover, and you clenched your legs together.
"I'm starving, is the pizza here yet?" Ray asked as he followed the others into the kitchen. You followed hastily, not wanting to watch nor hear the sounds of Chloe and Xavier making out in entrance.
"We just ordered it fifteen minutes ago!" Brooke said, hugging Ray tightly as he kissed her forehead. You smiled, amazed at how in love they were. Montana nudged you, throwing a protective arm over your shoulders as Chet stuffed the alcohol they brought into the fridge.
"We'll wait until she gets a few in her," Montana mumbled, "Then we'll give her a taste of her own medicine."
You nodded silently, still feeling like it was a bad idea. As much as you loved your friends, you feared this was going to blow up in your faces. Chloe and Xavier squeezed into the crowded kitchen, going for the alcohol as they managed to hang onto each other.
You followed the others into the living room, taking your original spot on the couch and opening the lemonade Brooke had given you. You beckoned for them to sit next to you, but was aghast when Chloe and Xavier sat next to you, Xavier in the middle. You felt your cheeks get red as Chloe threw her long legs over his lap, her feet just inches from you. The girls gave you an apologetic glance as everyone found a spot on the remaining furniture or on the floor.
The first few hours were spent eating and laughing at all the outrageous stories Ray had from working on the road. After you ate, you felt your headache slowly melting away. Chloe was definitely lightweight as she quickly became more clingy and loud towards Xavier, who seemed to be more interested in what Chet was talking about than her babbling incoherently.
Ray convinced Chloe to dig out the Wii, and he was fighting with Montana on who got to be the first player. From the corner of your eye, you could see that Xavier was watching you. You fought the urge to look, smiling as Brooke leaned back against your legs, laughing at her boyfriend and best friend arguing over who the best Mario character is.
"Xavieeee, I have a secrettttt..." you heard Chloe whisper a little too loudly, her wide eyes staring at Xavier, who was still looking at you.
"Not now, babe," he brushed her off, before turning his attention on Chet, who asked him a question you couldn't hear.
"I have to pee!" Montana said suddenly, standing up and meeting your eye.
"Me too!" you said, catching the hint and throwing Chloe's long legs off you. Brooke nodded in support, scooting closer to Ray, who was loading Mario Kart.
You did your best to appear nonchalant, but you were still nervous as you followed Montana down the hall. Instead of veering right into the bathroom, you crept down the hallway and walked straight into her bedroom.
It was an ordinary room, white walls, a large bed, a record player with a bin of records underneath. There was a guitar shoved in the corner, and it felt wrong invading her space like this.
"Don't feel bad, y/n," Montana said quietly, looking at you. "She has no respect for you. But we have to hurry!"
You nodded and quickly began to dig around. You made sure to put everything back in its place and not make too big of a mess. Montana had the same idea, but her actions were more rushed than calculated. You heard Chloe's laughter, along with the others as someone turned on the sound-bar. You could hear an intense game of Mario Kart going on.
Montana's loud gasp sent chills up your spine. You turned from your spot looking underneath her bed, seeing her holding a box she got from the closet. "What is it, Montana?" you asked.
"I found your diary," she whispered, looking at you.
You realized you forgot to listen to what was going on in the other room.
Montana quickly grabbed you, forcing the two of you two squeeze in the little closet as Chloe's voice grew closer. Montana held a hand to your mouth as she shut the door, and it became silent as Chloe entered, giggling to herself as she grabbed a jacket from her bed, stumbling back out.
You waited a few minutes before Montana pushed you out, and the two of you stared at each other in disbelief.
"What do we do now!?" you hissed, pointing to the small box Montana still had clutched in her hand.
"I didn't think this far!" Montana shot back, before opening the lid. Your heart stopped, seeing your journal, along with a small notepad on top. It was no bigger than the palm of your hand, and underneath, it looked like there was a photo of you and Xavier.
"We can't cause a scene with everyone here!" you said, and Montana nodded in agreement. "We have to go back out there, or they'll think we're up to something."
"I need you to play sick," Montana said, removing the contents and shoving the box on the shelf. "We'll be in deep shit if we're caught. I'm going to sneak this out, and we'll present it to Xavier later,"
"How is he supposed to believe we found it here?" you asked as Montana shoved it under her shirt. "This isn't going to work!"
"y/n, trust me this once, please," she said, before wrapping her arm around you. "Lean into me like you're sick so we can hide the this between us."
You went along with it, stumbling out and hiding in the bathroom. Montana flushed the toilet, and you ran the water for a few seconds before coming out, back in your position.
"Guys, y/n isn't feeling well, I'm going to take her home," Montana said, leading you towards the door.
"What's wrong, y/n?" Chet and Ray asked while Xavier stood up, almost knocking Chloe off his lap. She looked disgruntled, shooting you a glare. You pretended you didn't see, scrunching your face up.
"She got sick, I'll stay with her until Xavier gets home," she pushed, attempting to get away as Xavier walked towards the two of you, clearly concerned.
"Hey babe, are you good?" he asked you, and you hid your smile as Chloe frowned at the name.
"I think the alcohol just isn't agreeing with me," you lied, giving him what you hoped was a weak smile. "You don't have to worry about me, Xavier,"
"I'm always worried about you, y/n," he said, frowning at you.
Chloe stood up, coming over and attempting to put her arms around him. Xavier allowed it but didn't reciprocate as she gave you a dirty stare. Montana returned the glare, squeezing your arm, silently begging you not to move.
"She'll be fine, Xavieee!" Chloe said, "Let M-Montana take her home,"
You desperately wanted to tell her to fuck off but refrained. "I'll wait up for you," you assured Xavier. But before you could say anything else, Montana stumbled, forcing the two of you apart. Your journal, along with the photo and notepad, clattered to the hardwood floor.
Your friends watched them clatter to the ground, and you immediately wished lightning would strike you down.
Chloe blinked before recognition flashed in her eyes. "WERE YOU IN MY ROOM?"
Montana, bless her soul, bent down and scooped it. "Don't act so fucking surprised, you lying sack of-."
"Montana!" Xavier said before he recognized your journal. Chet squeezed his way towards you as Chloe fumed in her spot, the others watching quietly.
"You went into y/n's room and stole this!" Montana accused, waving the journal in Chloe's face. "You're fucking psychotic!"
"Chloe, is that true?" Xavier asked, giving her a dumbfounded look.
"Of course not, baby! They're setting me up!" Chloe hiccuped, tears welling up in her eyes as she pointed at you and Montana. "They're lying."
"If they're lying, what is this?" Chet asked, holding up the notepad that Montana left on the ground. Your face paled as you saw your name continuously written in black ink before scribbled with red ink. "And that's not even the most fucked up thing in here!" Chet glared at Chloe and Xavier, "This is fucked up."
"I need you all to leave," Xavier said, "Now!"
Chet was yelling at Chloe and Xavier as the others hurriedly grabbed their things, almost pushing each other out of the apartment.
"Xavier-," you said, wanting to plead with him to believe you.
"y/n, go!" he said, his eyes hard as Chet carefully pulled you into the hall. The last thing you saw was Xavier's angry expression before the door was slammed in your face.

Chapter 3: In the same land
Marinette smiled at the answer Bruce sent her, also confirming that Uncle Alfred will pick her up at late afternoon.
She casually adjusted her position in front of the reception desk while her classmates chattered between them and Miss Bustier waited for the receptionist to confirm their reservations. She felt a tug at her hip and she sneakily glanced down. Kaalki winked at her before diving into her purse and a second after a red blur followed her piercing through the desk. Marinette smirked in satisfaction.
“I’m very sorry, Miss Bustier.” The receptionist said with a nervous undertone. “There must have been a mistake in the reservation, we have reserved for you seven double rooms and one single room. I can offer you one extra single room.”
“But I can’t leave one student alone!” Miss Bustier exclaimed. “Are you certain there are no triple rooms available?”
“Miss, I am very sorry, there aren’t any more rooms available.” Marinette heard Tikki giggling in her purse and she tried to smother her smirk.
“What about double rooms? I could share it with the student.”
The receptionist looked at her apologetically. “It’s all we have, miss, I am truly sorry. The hotel guidelines state that in case of misunderstandings like these, we are obligated to accommodate you as best as we can maintaining the price that has been charged to you unless the new accommodation price is lower, in which case we will perform a refund. On this occasion, you are actually acquiring an extra room, which raises the price. But you won’t have to worry about it due to the hotel guidelines. It’s the best I can offer you.”
Miss Bustier released a heavy and defeated sigh. Marinette walked the two steps that separated herself from her teacher decisively. “Miss Bustier, I can offer myself for the single room if you don’t mind.”
She looked at her in surprise. “Oh! Marinette! I couldn’t ask you for that! Didn’t you want to room with Alya?”
“It’s no problem! After all, there is an even number of boys in the class and an odd number of girls! Mylene gets easily scared and she feels safe with Alix, Chloe was adamant about rooming with Sabrina, Lila said she was happy we were rooming in pairs and a trio since she needed help with her arthrosis-uh-arthritis? Whatever! But I wouldn’t want to separate Rose and Juleka, and since Alya already asked me if we could room with Lila before Rose invited her with them, I think it’s safe to assume Alya would still like to room with Lila!” She smiled up at the teacher.
“I see, thank you for offering, Marinette!” Bustier hugged the girl. “Let’s talk to the class.” She turned around and called their attention clapping her hands. “Everyone, we had a mishap with the rooming. We won’t have the triple room for the girls. Instead, we have a double and a single room.”
Rose, Juleka and Lila looked at each other, troubled. “But miss Bustier! I can’t be alone in a room with my illness.” Lila exclaimed pitifully, clearly willing her eyes to tear.
“You don’t have to worry, Lila! Luckily, our class president offered herself for the single room taking into consideration your special needs!” Miss Bustier beamed. “Alya, would you mind rooming with Lila for the trip? I’m sorry for taking your roommate away from you, but Lila needs help from a classmate.”
Alya smiled up at her teacher. “Of course, Miss Bustier, leave her to me!” She declared like a hero on duty before sharing a smile with Lila.
“Oh, thank you so much, Alya! You are the best!” Lila hung to Alya’s shoulder in a tight hug.
“No problem, Roomie! We are gonna have so much fun!” She returned the embrace and while all eyes were focused in the pair, Marinette shared a discreet fist bump with the Kwamis hiding inside her purse. After the girls separated, Alya walked up to Marinette and gave her a light shove with her hip before resting her arm over her shoulders. “That’s my girl! Saving the trip! Are you ok rooming alone, though?”
“Of course I’m fine!” Marinette beamed at her, hiding the fact that she planned this. “I’m the one who offered.”
“Ok, call me if anything. Especially if you need help waking up. I’ll go to your room and bang the door until you open if necessary!” Alya kissed Marinette’s forehead making her giggle.
“Thanks, Als. I miiiight need you during the mornings. Text me! If I don’t answer come and get me?”
“Sure thing!” Alya winked.
Miss Bustier called everyone’s attention to give their information to the receptionist and receive their room cards. When Alya separated from her, Marinette felt a tap on her shoulder, upon turning, she was almost blinded by the smile Adrien gave her.
“I thought you wouldn’t play in Lila’s games?” He asked in a mix of confusion and amusement.
Marinette huffed. ‘Of course, he will have questions’ she bit her lip thinking how to mislead him. “Well, I wouldn’t want to bother Alya rooming with me, I mean! I’ll be with a Gotham! I meant a friend! A boy! From Gotham!”
“Youuu…” He narrowed his eyes at her. “Want to sneak a boy into your room?” His expression grew scandalized and Marinette realized how her lame excuse sounded.
“N-No! No! NOT THAT! I meant- uh- I’ll BE BORING! I’ll be out often! With my friend! And I will leave her alone and I-I could be a pretty boring roommate?” She exclaimed blushing furiously. “Ohmygod.” She covered her face in shame.
“O-oh! Um.” Marinette looked at him from between her fingers to find him blushing and averting his eyes awkwardly. “Sorry for misunderstanding!” He choked.
Marinette wanted to die.
Why would she sneak Damian into her room? No, scratch that! She will certainly sneak him into her room now that she got the single room but not for- not whatever Adrien was thinking!
Marinette swallowed a scream.
“Oh, Marinette!” A silky sweet voice drawled. Marinette uncovered her face in time to see Lila reaching to her. Marinette stiffened while the girl gave her a firm hug over her shoulders, putting a slight pressure with her fingernails above her shoulders. “Thank you so much for the room change!” She said loudly, before switching to a rapid whisper. “You might look nice now but you are only making things worse for yourself. Enjoy your room alone while I drag Alya away from you.” She released her with a smirk and a smug tint on her eyes.
Marinette’s expression darkened slightly while Lila whispered but she quickly turned smug too. “We’ll see, Lila, we’ll see.” She whispered back.
Adrien cleared his throat, breaking the silent challenge between the girls. Lila promptly walked away, leaving them behind. “Sooo… should you be careful?”
Her face darkened again. “We should be careful. Remember you are her target too, Adrien.” She caught Alya’s eyes while she retreated with Lila. Marinette immediately tried to school her expression but Alya has caught on her dark and unfriendly glare towards Lila. At seeing her lifting a questioning eyebrow, Marinette had no way to answer more than pout at her friend. After all, from Alya’s perspective, her animosity must look extremely bad after Lila came to thank her. She sighed in defeat. “That Vulture really knows how to make me look bad.” She crossed her arms.
Adrien grimaced, having caught the silent conversation between the girls. “I-I know I haven’t been much help but… If you need anything, I'm just a call away, ok Marinette?”
That lifted Marinette’s mood considerably. “Thank you, Adrien.” She said with a grateful smile and proceeded to walk up to the receptionist now that everyone else has gotten their room cards.
“Marinette,” Miss Bustier looked back at her, conflicted. “I’m really sorry for this situation, the single room that the hotel can offer us is on the top floor while the rest of the rooms are spread across the third, fourth and fifth floor. The other single room is on the fourth, I asked for that one to be near everyone in case of emergency. I would leave that one to you, but I worry about leaving all of you to yourselves.” She brushed her hair nervously.
Marinette’s eyes lit up. “Miss Bustier, please don’t worry! The safety of the majority is important for me too! Besides, a room on the top floor could give me an inspiring view of Gotham for my drawings!”
“But you’ll be so far and alone.” Miss Bustier said feeling clearly conflicted while fidgeting with her fingers.
“If I may,” The receptionist intervened. “I would suggest the young miss take the top room. It’s a very nice room. I feel like her selfless actions deserve a bit of a reward. We don’t often see kindness freely in this city and I’m sure she’ll enjoy it even if alone.” She smiled kindly to Marinette. “Besides, she can always invite her classmates over to hang out, right?”
Marinette felt a mixture between the thrill of a mission going her way and guilt.
She got the room by cheating and purely for selfish reasons. Well, maybe not really selfish. She needed it in order to get away from prying eyes and fulfill her duty as Ladybug. The kwamis did a great job getting the top floor and it will 100% work at her favor. She really needed to get it at all costs even if she was causing her teacher and the receptionists all these problems. She hated it, but she needed it. So she did the best she could to convince Miss Bustier.
Marinette looked up at her with big puppy dog eyes.
And it worked.
With a defeated sigh, Miss Bustier craved in and handed her the room card while Marinette whooped.
She quickly grabbed her suitcase and power walked up to the elevator while screaming her thanks and promising everything would be alright.
When Marinette entered her room, she immediately felt as if Chloe just slapped her across the face with a stack of dollar bills.
“Holy Kaalki!” Marinette chocked.
It wasn’t just a room.
Not even a very nice room.
It was a penthouse.
She gaped at the luxury in front of her. It was wide, the style was exquisite with a color scheme between white, charcoal and a hint of burgundy. There was a huge TV in front of a very soft looking sofa and chaise, a lot of fancy decor along with something that looked kind of like a very sophisticated and unusual looking fireplace. There was a kitchen to the side that seemed more like a bar with a very expensive looking assortment of wines in a glass shelf. She made a mental note to never touch that. To the other side, she could see the bedroom and the bathroom. For as huge as everything was, the bed was clearly meant to be for a single person, even if she was sure she could fit two pillows there instead of the single one that was in the middle of it. It gave the bed a high-class feeling but it was technically misused space. And the bath looked like it had a jacuzzi.
She gulped, looking up to the long windows that gave her an astonishing view of Gotham. Beyond the windows, she could see the balcony. It didn’t actually have much since Gotham seemed to be a fairly rainy and cold place, nothing would be too enjoyable outside, but it still had some furniture and elegance.
After coming out of her stupor, Marinette decisively walked up to the room and left her suitcase beside the bed. The Kwamis came floating around her. “As I asked, please. Be thorough.”
Kaalki dove around the penthouse immediately, checking inside the furniture while Tikki hesitated for a moment before following suit. Marinette inspected the more visible parts, touching anything that could look slightly off, but found nothing suspicious or out of place. After the silent scouting, they all converged again in front of the bed. The kwamis shook their heads and Marinette sighed in relief while a smile stretched on her face. “We are clean!”
“I still don’t understand why you made us search for hidden cameras or mics, Marinette. Who are you afraid of?” Tikki inquired a mix between wary and curious.
“My classmates and Miss Bustier are not the only ones I’m trying to fool here in Gotham, Tikki.” Marinette answered with a kind of secretive smile at which Tikki just frowned in confusion.
“Are you talking about your friend Damian? He might be a good horse! He clearly comes from a rich family.” Kaalki mused.
Marinette laughed. “No, I know he is incredibly paranoid and he actually could do it! Maybe! But I am actually thinking about…” she walked up to the tall window and looked out at Gotham spreading in front of her. “Batman.”
The kwamis exchanged a look. “The most powerful Vigilante of this city? Why would you think he would bug your room?”
“I don’t know how much he knows. He is known to be the greatest detective in the entire world, and I’m sure there are others following closely in his footsteps. I’m not saying he suspects me being Ladybug, but I can never be sure and never too cautious.” She walked back to her suitcase and started taking some of her things out along with what she was going to dress for the day. “If he is onto me, we might have just dodged a bugged room. In any case, I intend to keep kwamis a secret from him. If he knows about Ladybug, then he knows about the Miraculous. But I could manage to keep your existence a secret.”
“We’ll be careful not to be seen!” Tikki twirled around her chosen while Kaalki hummed in confirmation.
“Thank you, girls.” Marinette walked up to the bathroom to take a quick shower. “We’ll take a minute in front of the reception desk for you two to rearrange the room adjustment we did earlier!”
The kwamis giggled. “Now I see why Trixx envied us. This is actually kind of fun!”
“We should tell them. Plagg would be proud if he knew too! Who would have thought you could be up to mischief, Kwami of Creation?” Kaalki shot at Tikki with laughter in her voice.
“It was for a good cause!” She defended. “And I didn’t plan it, Marinette did! Besides, you are the one who left only the best room available.”
“If I’m choosing, I’m picking class! With the most gorgeous view-”
Marinette started the shower, successfully cutting out the conversation from the room with a fond shake of her head.
After the refreshing bath and changing into one of the many outfits she decided along with Chloe, Marinette went down to reception and purposedly tripped, making some tour pamphlets to scatter over. The receptionist quickly went to help her stand up and collect the pamphlets while the kwamis sneaked around and righted the room reservations while the receptionist was distracted with Marinette.
After apologizing repeatedly and making sure that both kwamis were back on her purse, a familiar enraged scream reached from behind her. “I absolutely REGRET flying in economy class!” Turning around, she saw Chloe raging and walking up to Marinette, her hands in tight fists at the sides of her hip. She followed by mocking a high pitched note to quote “‘You’ll get to relate to how normal people fly’, Ugh! Why do I keep listening to you!? I shouldn’t mingle this much with you peasants!”
Marinette tried to stifle a laugh unsuccessfully. “I’m sorry Chloe, maybe I went too far.”
“You bet! You are ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!”
“But it wasn’t that bad, right? We had fun!” Marinette beamed at her, hoping to get to her soft side, after all, they did have fun, along with Adrien and Nino who were sitting just behind them.
Chloe pouted and averted her eyes. “I’m still changing my flight back to business class.” She crossed her arms. “I experienced it already. I don’t need any more suffering to know you all live in shambles”
“Oh dear, what are we going to do about that?”
She side-eyed Marinette for a few considering seconds. Marinette did her best effort to look sad and concerned, hugging herself and casting her puppy eyes. Chloe pouted before lifting her nose and striking a haughty pose. “Why? Of course, I’m thinking about hosting another charity event for the needed when we are back, DC. Who do you think I am?” She flipped her hair. “After all, with or without a Miraculous, I am still Queen Bee and Paris needs and admires me!” She started walking to where Sabrina was on the Lobby. “Get ready, Maribear! You owe me a shopping spree and I intend to reclaim it now!”
Marinette giggled while rolling her eyes.
She felt conflicted about all this if she was being honest. Marinette knew she was sort of taking advantage of Chloe’s wealth but in all honesty, she couldn’t find it in herself to regret it. All these charity events helped Chloe switch her focus to something healthy. Instead of just taking and taking from her parents, Marinette was doing her best to focus Chloe into raising the funds rather than just taking it from them. But she was doing this transition slowly, for now, Chloe was still on a stage where she is developing a feeling of fulfillment and duty towards Paris. She was slowly becoming compassionate and a beautiful person. Marinette didn’t call her Queen just to boost her ego and thus encourage her to continue, but because she could really picture her friend as a true Queen of Paris, trusted and beloved by so many. It was a pity her reputation was so stained that it was hard for others to see the true diamond Chloe was becoming. But Marinette was not one to quit and if she has seen others bloom and grow beautifully, why should she give up on her?
While Marinette opened her purse to fetch her phone, Tikki and Kaalkhi smiled up at her. She could see the proud shine in Tikki’s eye and they shared a happy smile. She took her phone out to finally make the call she has been waiting to do since arriving at the hotel.
“You are lucky I like you.” Her demon’s voice greeted her and she smiled broadly containing a snort.
“The title of the video was too obvious, you wouldn’t have opened it.”
“Tt.” She giggled at him. “Are you well-rested? You’ll need some energy and patience if you are coming to dinner and spend any amount of time with my brothers.”
“Yep! I followed your advice and slept during the flight! I’ll be fine.” She caught Alya’s tired eyes at the other side of the room. Alya pointed one finger up and then made a sleeping gesture pressing her hands together and inclining her face over them. Ah, Alya was going to sleep, and for the look of it, a big group of the rest of the girls was discussing doing the same. Marinette nodded and sent her a flying goodnight kiss. “I have to accompany Chloe to go shopping since she graciously handed me my eye mask during the flight.” She rolled her eyes. “Her selfless actions must be recognized and rewarded, right?”
“Seriously?” Damian’s deadpan voice reached again.
“Baby steps, Dove. Baby steps.” She nodded solemnly. “Who are you to talk anyway?” She waved at some of the girls who were making their way back to their rooms.
“Tt. My family has a reputation for being altruistic.”
“I don’t know, Bird Heir. You should show me around and convince me.” She dramatically put a hand over her forehead even if he couldn’t see her. “Uh, what is it? Is it doubt? Which of my friends is the real altruistic? Damian or… or maybe Chloe?” She teased.
“You know it’s me.” He growled.
“Mh, did I tell you Chloe was our biggest sponsor during our last charity event? The one where we helped kids manage their fear of akumas? If I remember correctly, she even accepted gifts from the kids like a well-loved diva! A Queen Bee, a true hero.” She teased, dragging the last word.
He kept silent while she held her breath waiting for his answer with anticipation. “I’ll show you what a true hero I can be.”
‘It’s on!’ Marinette cheered mentally and smirked.
“Good! I’ll wait for it! Now, if I’m not mistaken, I have a whole first day in Gotham and a shopping spree waiting for me. Talk to you late- I MEAN! SEE YOU LATER!” She squeaked when the realization hit again. “See you later.” She breathed, feeling nervousness pooling at the end of her stomach.
“See you later,” She heard him breathing into the phone too. “Angel.”
Her cheeks flared crimson at his last word and the call ended.
Marinette closed her eyes forcefully, reigning in the warm turns and twirls inside her body while clutching the phone to her chest. That telltale feeling she used to have for another boy coming back with vengeance for someone else just by hearing Damian breathless anticipation to meet her directly into her ear.
It felt nice.
Really, really nice.
He said literally four words, not even the most meaningful words. But it was his tone. The situation, her feet literally in Gotham ground. And for a second, he felt so, so close. Like he was actually there talking next to her ear. Saying normal words that anyone wouldn’t even bat an eye at but for her held so much power at that very moment.
He made her feel wanted.
She couldn’t believe how strongly these butterflies were hitting her. During all these years being his friend, she has never felt them raging this strong before. Maybe a bit fluttery that didn’t last long every now and then when he did something meaningful or when his tone and expression was softer than usual. Or when he displayed scarce shows of affections in his own way.
But not like this. NEVER like this. Maybe Alya was right and she really feels that way towards him. Scratch that. If this feeling is anything to go by, Marinette could be sure that yes, she does see him in a romantic light.
A whisper traveled through her body ‘I like him.’ and she wasn’t sure whether her brain or her heart was responsible for this but whoever started it, the other agreed and finished the thought/feeling.
Marinette was sure this was somehow building up over time but now it suddenly was released like a shockwave.
She really did like him like that, after all.
It’s not like she didn’t notice her feelings before, she was a passionate person, after all. But she put it on a lesser level right away. Maybe she has been ignoring it due to her old crush, maybe it was the distance, maybe it was the ‘old friend’ novelty or the ‘best friend’ title that clouded her mind and silenced her heart for so long. Or maybe it was because she knew Damian isn’t initially a likable person and he was hard to love. But she could see how strong the bonds could become once anyone overcame that barrier with him. He could give up his life for his family and them for him. The same held true for his friends, she could see how underneath the fights and the prodding, he trusted and cherished Jon. And she also felt, even with all her insecurities, that the same is extended for her.
She was so foolish.
Why did she wait this long to finally face her own feelings and acknowledge them for what they were? Still, she intended to follow Alya’s suggestion and spend time with him and confirm if what she is feeling now stands. Marinette was almost sure that would be the case since she was just slapped by months worth of pinning after a single deliciously breathed line.
It was ridiculous, totally, completely and utterly ridiculous.
And now she was sounding exactly like Chloe.
With a huff, she made sure that her annoyance had completely washed away the butterflies and returned to reality glaring forward, like challenging her emotional self to try and act again, only to be met by Chloe Bourgeois herself boring her eyes upon Marinette with Sabrina trying to smother her giggles behind the blonde.
“You done there?” Chloe asked evenly.
“Y-yes?”
“Good, follow me.” She turned around and walked straight to the door. Marinette followed.
The second the fact that Chloe waited quietly during her emotional warfare and didn’t interrupt her downed on Marinette, she felt a rush of affection and gratitude toward her friend.
She wasn’t even asking, completely respecting her privacy and feelings.
Sabrina, on the other hand, seemed to be curious but she was apparently silenced by Chloe.
Marinette got the idea that if she wanted to tell them, they would listen but wouldn’t force her to say anything. If Chloe was good at anything, it was at keeping her deepest feelings closed to herself. She could relate to others wanting to do the same.
Chloe never asked others about their feelings, some could take it as disinterest, but now Marinette knew it was her way of caring.
Well, that was something she also learned from Damian.
She shook her head, trying to cast the bird away from her mind and focus on the present.
At some point, they had entered a store and Chloe was animatedly listing the good qualities of the pieces of clothing she was pilling over Sabrina’s arms. That perked her interest instantly, snatching some of them and gushing over them too.
Soon the three of them were happily trying on the clothes, commenting every detail and effectively distracting Marinette from her earlier heavy emotional wave.
Shopping with Chloe wasn’t as bad as she originally thought, they had similar tastes in quality and fashion after all. Besides, everything was new and exciting for the three of them.
They even managed to buy gifts for their parents besides some clothes and accessories for themselves.
Chloe was still annoying, but Marinette has managed to bring her down that high horse a bit. She had managed to apply some techniques she learned dealing with Damian and frankly, they were working nicely. It helped Chloe become more emphatic and collaborative in her search to be a worthy hero.
She could handle Chloe. She could handle Damian.
She was Marinette
She was Ladybug
She could handle anything!
Except for this dinner. She couldn’t handle this dinner and it was bound to be a disaster!
She was so not ready for this dinner but since she knows herself, she had planned this so she wouldn’t have time to second guess everything and just be shoved into it with no time to think.
She only left a few minutes to be able to shove her shopping bags into her room and she was again out of the hotel in time to be picked up to go to the Manor.
It was a mistake, a total mistake.
What if just now she has a wardrobe malfunction and she didn’t have time to go to her room and fix it?
What if they didn’t like her after all?
What if she embarrasses uncle Alfred and he never wants to invite her again?
What if Damian thought she was too different in real life and don’t want anything anymore with her?
What if he-
“Marinette, calm down!” Tikki’s voice reached her from her purse. Apparently, she has been ranting out loud without realizing it. “You have your emergency sewing kit here and there is nothing to worry about! Damian already told you that you are way past first impressions and they all really love you already! Alfred will be so happy to see you too!”
“But-!”
“It’s going to be alright, I swear! I can tell they adore you and will only like you more once they met you for real!” Tikki cheered sweetly and Marinette finally felt her confidence slowly returning.
“You are right, Tikki.” She sighed. “I’ve known them for years, I shouldn’t get so worked up.” She squared her shoulders. Letting her determination take the lead, she took her phone out and looked at the time.
This was it. It was time.
A black car parked in front of her. She felt her determination slipping away just a bit.
And the door opened.
