AT THE BAR
Y/n walked into the over crowded bar as she pushed her way to the bar. She was wearing a mini black cocktail dress that showed off the perfect amount of cleavage for free drinks. She finally made her way up to the bar side as a muscular dream was sitting at the counter. Y/n smiled to herself. She acted like she was pushed and bumped right into him.
“Hey! Watch it!” She yelled at no one.
“You okay?” The mar turned on his stool helping up Y/n. “Here, sit here.” He slid off the stool giving Y/n a place to sit. She sat down and smiled up at him. “Names Hajime, and you are?”
“Y/n.”
“Well Y/n, let me buy you a drink. What will you have?”
“Whiskey on the rocks please.” She smiled.
“Wow, a strong drink for such a pretty lady.” He smiled at her now. “Did you come here alone?”
“I did, no one else wanted to come out tonight.”
“I came alone too. Hard day at work. I just wanted to unwind but it’s kinda super busy here.”
“I wonder why it’s so busy tonight.” Y/n said.
“I know we just met, but do you want to go somewhere else? We can just go grab a bite to eat.” He asked her.
“Some food would be great.” Y/n said. She stood up slowly and fake tripped on her chair. She fell into Hajime’s arms. Y/n threw back the rest of her drink and placed the glass on the counter.
“Woah careful there, beautiful. Wouldn’t want me to fall and damage that pretty little face of yours, now would we.”
Y/n laughed as she shook her head and bit her lip.
Hajime and Y/n shoved their way out of the bar together.
“Did you drive here?” Hajime asked as they exited the front of the bar.
“No I didn’t,” She lied, “Did you?”
“I did. Come with me, beautiful.” He held his hand out for her to take.
Hajime walked Y/n over to his bright yellow Lamborghini.
“Wow, Hajime. Nice car!” She exclaimed.
“Thanks.” He smiled once again at her.
“So where are we going?” She clutched her purse with her butterfly knife inside of her bag.
“I know a good spot that serves alcohol too.”
“Perfect.”
The two pulled up to a western style bar and grill.
“They serve whiskey here.” Hajime laughed.
The two went inside and sat down. After ordering food and drinks the two began to get to know each other a little better.
“So what kind of job do you have to have a car like that?” Y/n asked.
“I run a business. I'm the second in command.”
“Wow, impressive.” She said back.
“What do you do for work, Y/n?”
“I work in a bar.” She was quick to say. “A bartender to be precise.”
“Oh so you are familiar with drinks then.”
“I guess you could say that.” Y/n laughed.
The two continued the basic small talk for a bit before Y/n let out a big sigh.
“What’s wrong?” Hajime asked.
“I’ll be honest, I came with you to get fucked. So are we doing this or not?” Y/n asked.
Hajime laughed as he reached across the table for her hand.
“Shall we go back to my place then?”
Y/n nodded her head and smiled. Hajime paid the bill at the front as he walked back to the table. He took her hand as he walked her back to the car.
Hajime grabbed Y/n’s knee as he drove full speed to his apartment. The two got out of the car as he parked it and rushed up to his apartment doors. Hajime unlocked it as he pushed Y/n inside. Hajime pulled Y/n close as he began to kiss. The two made out as they waited for the elevator…………
The next morning.
Y/n slid out of Hajime’s bed as he slept soundly. She left her number on the mirror in black lipstick like some cheap hotel hookup would do. She let herself out after getting dressed and headed down stairs where an uber awaited her to get back to her car.

Summary : You were just a little insecure and insecurity’s never hurt anyone right
Your eyes pranced around the gym as you watched your boyfriend go up for his twelfth spike in his volleyball game . You hadn’t been counting but you knew for sure he’d made somewhere around there anytime you turned around you would see him up in the air hitting something you just weren’t fast enough to make out
Your hands coming up in a loud clap and cheer when you seen him make the last hit the ball making a loud thump throughout the court
You were happily screaming out his name until your eyes caught wind of someone yelling slightly louder than you
Eyes moving over to said someone every few seconds trying to check them out
Your cheering stopping when your eyes raked over her outfit that barely covered her legs a sweatshirt with your boyfriends name and number on the front and back you’d have thought she was his girlfriend
You decided to let her cheer for him as you placed yourself softly back in your seat taking in a cool breath of air as your eyebrows came together eyes shifting to the floor quickly before they ran back to the girl who’s friend was lightly tapping her
you biting your lip as she turned to you speaking loudly “ uh — hey if your gonna give me a love confession here don’t ok — “
she smiled widely “ i’m here for someone “ her painted thumb moved to the back of her jersey showing off the name as you stuttered and moved out the seats head low and hands sweaty
‘ she just doesn’t know y/n , and it won’t matter anyways— ushi doesn’t care for her he doesn’t even know her your ok y/n your relationships ok ‘
you moved to enter in through the lower level of the gym just in time to see the team bowing and giving their thanks ushijimas eyes scanning the seats looking for you until you waved slightly at tendou who moved you over quickly to ushijima
“ he needs some love — some cuddles he’s been practicing all week endlessly please reward him y/n - chan “
he sighed as he pouted putting his elbow on your head as you two stood in front of your boyfriend
“ he won’t take my hugs “
“ because your hugs always turn into something more “ he said facing tendou
you laughed “ something more ? is there something your not telling me —do you have a crush on my boyfriend “
“ no y/n who’d ever have a crush on ushiwaka-kun hes so — oh my condolences I forgot you were dating him “
“ tendou i’m sure you’ve said the wrong thing you give your condolences when someone or something has died “
tendou draped his body over yours “ no trust me something has died —“
“ what “
“ the conversation “
“ I do not understand “
“ how do you put up with him “
you smiled as you embraced your boyfriend. Arms barely wrapping around his body fully your poor body being suffocated in his chest and arms
“ bewause whes ‘ so fufffy “ your voice came out strangled as his grip was pressing you into his chest before he allowed you to look up at him
you smiled as your thoughts from earlier quickly vanished “ wakatoshi “ you said as you stared at him
“ yes my love “
you smiled softly “ I’m enough right “
“ more than enough —though I could fill my physical hunger with another match but why are you asking “
“ no reason “ you pulled away from him as you inched over to stand next to tendou again you knew ushijima liked physical touch when it was you but , he also still needed some space it was a lot all at once to just throw your love at him and he needed time to warm up to it so you always started out small .
“ ok so what are we doing after this “
“ i’m walking y/n home “
“ i’m allowing ushi to walk me home “
“ allow but you always beg me “
you pouted “ no that’s not true “
“ yes or you get really mad at me and then I go back to my house to find a deflated volleyball on my bed the next day “ tendou choked as ushijima continued
“ I always have to buy another practice volleyball too it makes me never want to do what I did the previous day again “ he shivered as you smiled
“ at least I still leave the she—“
“ USHIJIMA-KUN“ a loud voice rang through the gym causing both tendou and your boyfriend to scratch at their ears after hearing loud noises non stop on the court “ ushijima-kun i’m a big fan “
he turned to the girl as you smiled
“ you can go “ you said softly knowing he would ask you first but this time you decided to just let him leave talking to tendou as some time passed by until you seen a sight you’d rather not have
your eyes widened as you saw the same sweatshirt from earlier in the crowd ice running through your veins as you saw her with her polished hands on your captains uniform
“ earth to y/— hey what’s up why are you looking like that “
you smiled “ oh I just got confused for a moment“ you looked to the floor before looking back over to the wicked sight taking place next you
Taking side glances every so often to see her hands traveling to different places
“ let’s go talk to ushiwaka ok “ tendou said happily understanding what was happening to you he never wanted you to be jealous of someone else let alone feel insecure especially when so many were jealous of you and you didn’t even know
You both made your way up to the people in front of you hearing the end of the conversation
“ ushijima-kun why aren’t you talking “
“ because I want to respect my s/o and your advances seem wrong “
“ their not I swear — we can be friends I’m sure your s/o wouldn’t mind you just speaking to me right — their not mean right ushi-kun —someone mean doesn’t fit you —you need a friendly person “
“ I do not like that nickname “ he stared at the girl in front of him “ and I am also not talking to you because I simply just don’t want to talk to you “
“ h-hi guys “ you moved to hold your hand out to the taller girl “ h-hi i’m y/n wakatoshi’s s-“
“ oh god ushijima-kun this persons a stalker they were up in the bleachers not that long ago trying to confess to me “
tendou scoffed as he turned to look away feeling the embarrassment for the girl grow in waves
“ i’m sure my s/o’s not looking for someone else nor are they interested in friendly girls as far as I know “
he turned to you stoic face resting on yours “ are you y/n “
“ w-wait s/o “
“ yes that is what I said —you are a good listener “
“ did you just call them your s/o “
“ nevermind “ he looked towards the girl “ I take it back you are not a very good listener “
“ I-i’m sorry for earlier I was just — you were wearing my boyfriends jersey and I — I was a bit confused“ you smiled softly “ but if you wan-“
“ ushijima—kun — I really liked how you played in the volleyball game “
“ thank you what was your favorite part “
she shook not expecting the question before she put her hands in her pocket “ oh um when you hit it — that was totally cool and it made a loud echo “
“ oh you must not know volleyball terms “ he said confused “ if you want i’m sure “ he turned to you
“ y/n can you help her out — y/n watches all my games and tells me what I need to improve and what I did wrong i’m sure they could help find the play you were talking about they remember them all —they’ve been doing this a long time “
you smiled knowing that’s not what the girl wanted before playing with your thumbs looking away from the scene “ love are you going to help her she seems“
he spoke confused at the girl in front of him “ she seems quite upset “ he put his hands in between the two of them “ ma’am I assure you—you have nothing to worry about not understanding one of my plays—or the game itself is ok — do not be mad at yourself — my s/o will supply help “
tendous laugh came out as he moved his hand over it to turn it into a cough
“ tendou are you in need of water I would gladly go get you a bottle “
you knew ushijima felt uncomfortable and was trying his best to get out of the situation “ yeah you two can go get water i’ll explain your play to — um what was your name “
she looked from you to ushijima twirling her hair “ um sai “
“ oh ok sai —i’ll explain your play to her “ you moved to hug tendou as ushijima gave your hand a squeeze before walking off “ ok so the play I think your talking about is when goshik— “
“ I don’t know what your playing at but you need to stop “ her voice was sharp “ I don’t know if he’s your brother and your just joking to get me off his back or if your the sibling of someone on the team but “
your eyebrows came down as she was beating into you “ it’s not cool i’m sure you just got mad that I rejected your confession and so you came down here to screw over my chances with ushi “
you thought to yourself ‘ he only lets me call him ushi‘
your face dropped into a sad pout “ h-he’s just my boyfriend really i’m not lying “
“ but you are — look I feel bad really does he even know your going around lying to people like this and did you tell him the meaning of s/o meant something else “
“ no like I said he’s my boy— “
“ why do you keep saying that “
you kept saying it more so for yourself than for her you wanted to remind yourself that he loved you and not her that he was your boyfriend even through all her mean claims that she spit at you next
“ look you need to stop being a liar liars don’t die peacefully — no one would want to date someone like you “
her hands pulled at your hair and shirt “ look at how your dressed your so — your dressed like a child — a little boy and your hair is horrible and not brushed are you seriously thinking in your mind that your dating the ushijima ace of Shiratorizawa he may not be captain but still “
she scoffed as she stepped back “ look at you-- this just proves that your a liar if you were dating him you’d have tough skin seeing as though he has more fangirls than Oikawa — it’s literally only me down here and your on your knees crying in my face like a wounded dog “
you knew it was wrong to cry and have your head to the floor but you knew she was right . Why would ushijima like you let alone love and date someone like you when she was here
Her tall slender legs everything that you wanted , height something you always dreamed of , clear skin something you’d never managed to hold for more than a week and body exactly what you asked for in your prayers
Your mind couldn’t help but think she was more of a perfect fit for him than you’d ever be
and you just couldn’t see where you could be wrong
“ like I said stop lying and back the fuck off — I don’t know how you managed to manipulate ushijima into dating a fucking weird evil person like you but it’s not cool “
“ I find it quite cool how they got together actually“ tendous singing voice cut through as he took a sip of his drink
“ if you mean manipulating me with her patient heart and understanding for my busy schedule than yes y/n you really are evil “
“ I mean are you sure your not the weird one here — your the one trying to beat someone else into saying their not dating someone — like their relationship is gonna change if you get her to agree with you“ tendou scoffed continuing to speak to her
“ they’d still be dating no matter if she said no or not ushijima only has two things he focuses on volleyball and y/n so “
“ yes he’s correct volleyball has my heart in a way —and y/n has my mind— it’s hard to focus on anything else when she’s sitting in it all day “
“ told you — you had no chance even if you did make shorts to go along with that handmade jersey — which you really should have made —your legs look awfully cold “
“ he is telling the truth your legs have goosebumps — I really do hope you brought a jacket “
“ and I don’t know if your friends — the same ones laughing at you from the balcony right now “
tendou looked up waving at the girls “ hi margo “ the girl waving down happily
“ I don’t know if they told you before you came down here but they knew y/n and ushijima were dating so really your the stupid one not my best friend here “
he moved to drape his arm over you as he pointed at the girl
“ I mean your not stupid — that’s mean but you look really bad right now—yes “ ushijima cut him off as his stoic voice shook the girls core everytime he spoke
“ also I meant to tell you since y’know your friends didnt — your jersey you made “ tendou spoke
“ how— howd you know I made it — maybe I g-got it from— “
“ stop lying to yourself — ushijimas name is spelled wrong and hes not just the ace like your jersey says — he’s the captain ? “
the girl shook as she moved to play with her hands in embarrassment you finally noticing she had the words ace underneath ushijimas name that she forgot to add and I to before the j
“ well I do hope that’s not how people spell my name that looks deathly scary “
“ you may go “ tendous voice came out as the girl hurried off ushijimas loud deep voice making her freeze along with everyone else in the gym
“ Hey sai “ she turned to look at him tears in her eyes as his eyebrows furrowed “ you are very talented but — id like if you could put your talents to other use and maybe write my s/o a card explaining how pretty they are “
he looked to you “ their feelings are hurt and you are the reason and instead of fighting you in a volleyball match since you don’t have a team nor do you know anything about the sport “
the girls at the balcony laughed moving to leave the girl as ushijima continued “ i’d rather just have you sit down and rethink your hurtful actions and think about how pretty my s/o actually is — inside and out“
he nodded his head at the girl “ do you think you could do that “
tendou squeezed you in a hug as he draped the rest of his body on top of your head “ it’s either that or I continue to cut into you — I know I could do it for hours “ he sung out the girl crying as she shook her head in a yes motion leaving you alone with the two males around you
“ are you ok y/n “
“ yes love are you doing allright — I had a feeling something was wrong so I came back immediately “
you smiled softly “ e-everything is fine thank you both really “
ushijima looked to tendou as the latter understood and moved to whisper in your ear “ y/n I do think your really pretty myself and if you and ushijima weren’t happily together for 2 years already — and he didn’t do it like he does now — I’d make sure you knew your beautiful everyday “
you smiled at his kind comment you knew he just wanted to make you feel loved and to not believe your thoughts right now
“ do not listen to tendou he would have had no chance to date you seeing as though I liked you and am a lot bigger “
tendou laughed “ y/n doesn’t care that your big ushijima id totally win “
“ no she does — you have no space for her to crawl and cuddle on “
tendou waved him off as he walked towards the rest of the team as they closed the door and left you two alone in the gym leaving you to stare up at your boyfriend only to sit back on the bench
“ i’m sorry to make you do all of that ushi I just — I felt like I couldn’t say anything “ you bit at your lip
“ I don’t want you to think i’m weak and that you have to constantly remind me that you love me or even just to have someone who can’t stick up for themselves “
“ you are not weak “ he said as he sat down next to you “ you are one of the only people who can handle my energy and not break “
you laughed “ you have no energy ushijima “
“ if I have no energy then how do I play 2 matches of volleyball ? “
“ I mean no energy like that “
“ y/n I do not understand you are making no sense to me my love “
you laughed as more tears fell out “ I know ushi I know “
“ I do not understand why you are crying — If you understand that I do have energy that is no reason to cry just because you were wrong “
you played with your hands as he reached out to hold them rubbing them softly “ you do not have to believe her she was wrong “
“ was she though “
“ yes or I would not have said that just now “
he looked to wipe your cheeks “ you do not have to cry because you choose to believe baseless lies “
he wiped your eyes “ that is your own fault that you are sad right now —because you want to believe those idiotic claims“
he faced you as his hand moved to rub your cheek “ You are very beautiful and your smile makes me smile which I did not know I could do unless I was playing volleyball with my dad — that was the last time I smiled y/n—I thought i’d lost the emotion and you found it “
he sighed “ I look forward to my time with you because you always manage to make me smile and feel comfortable which I havent felt in a long time you make me feel loose and not so uptight “
he laughed “ there are times when I feel like tendou while hanging out with you and I cannot say I don’t enjoy it “
you smiled as he ran his thumb over your lips “ I love you no matter how you think you look or how others think you look — what I really love you for is your patience with this sport and my love for it “
you shook your head in a yes form you really did love him and you would wait anytime he said he had practice and couldn’t see you — only because you knew he had a talent and could go far with it and you didn’t want to be the reason he stopped short “ I love you y/n “
you smiled “ you couldn’t have said it with more meaning “ you laughed
“ well yes I could have used it in a way that has a different meaning the word means a lot of different things “
“ no I mean you couldn’t have said it without your voice sounding so bland “
“ what do you mean —does my breath smell bad is that whats making the words so tasteless to you“
you laughed “ no ushi I just meant to say them with meaning “
he smiled laughing while he spoke “ y-y/n I do not know what you mean my love “
“ like that “ you smiled hearing the happiness in his voice “ just like that “
he pulled you into a hug kissing your head “ I love you y/n more than the feeling of that last point I just scored — and more than the sport I wake up to practice for every morning “

“Home sweet home ”, Tooru declares grandly, throwing his hands out with the air of a conqueror bursting with pride at the sight of his domain.
Never mind the fact that the apartment looks like it’s been hit by a tsunami of cardboard boxes and scattered bits of furniture. Or the fact that you’re covered in sweat and grime from lifting boxes and shifting furniture and you’d very much like to lie down and not get up for the next week or two, but you can’t because of the never ending list of things to be done - unpacking your belongings, filling in your enrolment paperwork, attending medical school orientation to attend.
But his words wash away the tide of anxiety lapping at the edges of your mind.
Tooru wept and gnashed his teeth when his parents refused to let him chase his dreams to Argentina, and not a single professional team in Japan even looked his way. Don’t be ridiculous, his parents told him with wagging fingers, especially when Chuo University sent a full scholarship his way.
“It is the top school for volleyball” you pointed out, as he spent yet another hour lying flat on his back, eyes swollen from spent tears. “You could go there and grab everyone’s attention by being their starting setter for the next four years.”
He does not respond. You wonder if he’s waiting for the paint on the ceiling to crack.
“Plus” you add slyly. “I’ll be at Chuo with you.”
This catches his attention. “What d’you mean”, he mumbles, throat still sandy with salt.
“I got into medical school there”, you tell him , the smile on your face growing when he finally hurls himself bodily at you, both of you toppling off the bed and onto the floor.
“You’ll be there with me?” he whispers in disbelief.
You laugh wetly into the crook of his neck. “Every step of the way”, you declare, slipping your hand into his.
You’ve both transplanted yourselves from your childhood home in Sendai to a tiny apartment in Tokyo, a veritable hole in paper thin walls. Your hearth is a pair of rusty iron hobs, and your bed is a cheap mattress on the floor, but sunshine spills in from the windows like liquid gold and Oikawa Tooru’s hand is warm in yours.
You wonder what you’ve done in your past life for the gods to smile down on you, to bless you with a boy you love in a place you can both call home .
You’re not usually this sentimental, but just this once, you tug him down towards you, stealing a kiss from him. “I like the sound of that”, you murmur against his lips. “Our home, Tooru”.
He chuckles, wrapping his arms around you. “Do you love me?” he asks, with a smile that cages your beating heart in his calloused hands.
You are young. You are eighteen. You know nothing of the world. You know nothing of life.
So you reply - “More than life itself”.
He kisses you with languid ease, stealing the very breath from your chest. You tell yourself you have four years to work up the courage to ask if he loves you as much in return.
“Medical supplies are expensive, so stop coming here to ask for cold presses that you don’t need”, you tell Oikawa Tooru, Captain of the Volleyball Club and currently a veritable pain in your ass for constantly hounding you during your shifts at the school’s sickbay.
You resist the urge to sigh when he throws himself onto the cot, groaning dramatically - “How mean! You and Iwa-chan are the same - brutes, all of you! What’s a guy gotta do to get some tender love and care, especially when he’s injured?”
You cast a doubtful eye at the bandage over his right knee. “Iwaizumi said you recovered, but I guess if you’re really still injured…”
Oikawa grins, sensing victory in sight. “So you’ll give me a cold press and let me rest here during class?”
You drop said cold press onto his knee none too gently. “Sure - though..” your voice trails off, you tap your chin thoughtfully. “That would mean you’re not cleared for practice. I’ll send a note to your coach.”
Gotcha.
It’s your turn to grin when alarm dawns on Oikawa’s face, his eyebrows pinching together as he waves his hands at you, pleading you not to mention a word to his coach - pretty please with a cherry on top, he forgot to do his homework cos he was staying up late to watch volleyball videos last night and needs a place to hide, and you’re the kindest, bestest, person on earth if you let it slide this time, his knee is fine, just fine -
You glare at him, unimpressed.
He pouts, with the largest puppy dog eyes he can muster. Even you are not immune to his charms.
“Fine”, you say flatly. “Just once.”
He thanks you, promising never to darken the doors of the sickbay again without cause.
Of course, he breaks his promise the very next day when he sidles in just before practice, dropping a milk carton and a bun on your table.
“An offering to the maiden of this shrine” he answers teasingly in response to the question in your furrowed brow, trying his best to exude arrogance and saunter off, though his efforts are defeated by the pink tint to the apples of his cheek.
Oikawa Tooru, huh. You wonder.
You and Tooru are drawn into the ebb and flow of university life. You wake up with him by your side each morning, kiss him on the cheek before you both head your separate ways. In a fit of fancy, you imagine that your front door is the portal to different worlds - a little like the enchanted door in Howl’s Moving Castle, a movie Tooru used to make you watch with him on repeat. When you step through it, you find yourself in the humdrum world of medical school - anatomy classes, stuffy professors, scalpels and knives. Whereas when Tooru steps through it - like the titular wizard, he bursts like a fiery comet into a wholly separate, magical world of whistles and drills and volleyball practices.
Your worlds never collide in the day, even though from time to time, you sneak into the gym to watch him practice, unbeknownst to him. Typically, you only see him at night. Dinners are prepared together, shoulders jostling over the kitchen counter to cook rice and produce sourced from the supermarket’s discount bin, before you both huddle over homework. More often than not though, Tooru prefers to spend all his time crouched over his laptop, earbuds on, watching endless streams of volleyball matches.
“Aren’t you ever tired of volleyball?” you ask when you see him analyse yet another video - Argentina versus Japan this time.
You already know the answer before your question leaves your tongue but you ask it anyway, amused when he squawks in indignation and knocks over your cup of tea in his hurry to exclaim - Sick of volleyball? Him, Oikawa Tooru? Never!
Of course, you knew that. Chuo University is the top collegiate team for volleyball, so the coaches demand nothing but the best from their players. You watch by the sidelines as Tooru grinds his body into dust at volleyball practice, coming home every night with sore tendons and aching bones. Balancing a full business course load on top of that would stretch anyone to their breaking point.
Anyone normal that is, because Tooru revels in his hectic schedule.
You attend his first match and you’re blown away by how much he’s grown from being transplanted from barren soil into rich earth. The unerring confidence he’s already shown in his high school days blossoms into an elegant ease. His athleticism grows by leaps and bounds, his game sense sharpens, his sets learn true grace.
He claws his way to a starting position with bloodied fingernails, in blatant disregard of anything that might stand in his way. He builds his own wings, starts to take flight, the light in his eyes shining brighter and brighter the closer he flies towards the sun.
He is no longer the simple school boy you fell in love with from Sendai.
Will you go out with me if I win our next match?” he asks suddenly, lifting his gaze from the video he’s watching from his usual corner in the sickbay.
“Do I look like a prize for some school boy’s grudge match?” You snipe back, head bent over your homework.
“It was worth a try”, he hrumphs.
You hide a smile.
“I would go out with you even if you lose”, you tell him, though you do not lift your eyes from paper and pen.
A laugh bubbles from his chest - surprised, delighted, triumphant.
“I better make sure I win then. So you don’t change your mind.”
He did not win that game, losing spectacularly in the finals in his second year against his fated rival - Ushijima from Shiratorizawa, a specter that still looms unti over every match he plays in up to today.
True to your word, you sat on his doorstep, waiting for him to return home red eyed, throat raw. You let him drop his aching head into your lap, and like a maiden comforting a weary warrior, you pressed a kiss to his forehead as a balm to his wounds. Then you dragged him by the hand to your favourite ramen stall, ordering two bowls of tonkatsu ramen, with char siu, bamboo shoots, spring onions and gyoza on the side. An inauspicious first date, but you consider yourself lucky nonetheless for having him beside you.
Things are different now. You are blind not to see him long to touch the sun.
No one is surprised when Chuo University wins nationals. The only surprise to the media (but certainly not to you or anyone from Miyagi for that matter), is that Chuo University brings home the trophy with Oikawa Tooru as it’s starting setter.
The boy king finally reaches the national stage.
Even then, he is always, always grasping for more .
“You were amazing!” you gush, as he finally breaks through the triumphant huddle of his teammates to swing you into his arms and greet you with his customary kiss. “I’m so proud of you!”
His eyes glitter as he laughs, giddy with delight, face flushed with pride. “It’s just college, princess. Wait til I go pro”.
Like Ushijima, you think, though that name remains unsaid.
Wax feathers had already started to sprout from the knobs of his spine back in high school, budding beneath your fingertips like a cancerous tumour. Back then it was easy to be wilfully blind to them, but now it's become too obvious to be ignored. Oikawa Tooru’s ambition lies spread eagled, naked beneath the blinding lights of the sports hall. He has only just tasted his first real victory, crossed the first hurdle separating him from his dreams of greatness.
“I’m waiting for that day then”, you respond teasingly.
You only realise later that you lied. He's left the confines of your arms in his quest for the skies.
You laughed when Tooru first broached the idea of sneaking out at night to gaze at stars in the sky. ‘What nonsense’, you’d said. What are the chances of seeing stars amidst the light pollution from a city, even a relatively minor one like Sendai?
“You’re being a meanie, just like Iwa-chan”, he pouted. He kept whining until you gave in.
Tooru picks you up from your home past midnight, chuckling when you label his rusty bicycle ‘a contraption from hell’ and ask him archly whether he truly expects you to entrust your wellbeing to the tiny rack meant to function as the pillion’s seat.
“Stop being a princess, it isn’t as if I can magick a seatbelt from thin air” he teases.
“Howl could”, you point out.
“Well, I could strap you on with my bicycle chain if you prefer”, he answers blithely. “Get on, stop complaining”.
He pedals all the way uphill to the deserted park near school, whining all the way about the strain the extra weight (you) puts on his knees (lies, all of them). You’re torn between pointing out that he chose to drag you out in the middle of the night and kicking him off the bike and commandeering yourself home instead. You choose instead to slap the back of his head.
“Ow!” he squeals. “Brute!”
“Hmph”. You fold your arms in satisfaction.
When he finally finds a spot perfect enough to commence his stargazing adventure, he stops the back, spreads a picnic mat and hands you a flask of hot tea.
“I don’t see any stars”, you say, after fifteen minutes of sitting, stiff and cold in the dark.
“Don’t be impatient! The clouds will clear up soon”, he says, squinting hopefully.
The sky remains overcast.
You sigh, the breath expelled from your nose forming your own personal cloud. You are accustomed to Tooru’s quirks, his all consuming passion for volleyball, his love for all things outer space. You decide to indulge him a little, just once.
“Why don’t you pretend we can see the stars and tell me your favourite thing about each one?”
He brightens up visibly.
“You won’t be bored if I did that?”
You prod his nose, but your eyes are fond. “Have you ever bored me?”
His chest swells. “I suppose not”, he crows, and proceeds to trace the constellations with elegant fingers, spinning stories and conjuring random facts about celestial beings you cannot see. You find yourself enthralled, not by his words, but by the lilt in his voice and depth in his eyes.
“Why d’you love the stars so much?” you ask.
“Did you not just hear anything I’ve just said?” his voice teeters dangerously close to a whine.
You click your tongue against your teeth. “I mean – trivia and myths aside. Why are you so fascinated by what are essentially flaming balls of gas and light.”
“The shallow answer is cos they’re pretty.” He says, laughing airily, before turning his gaze to you, the stark intensity in his eyes causing goosebumps to prickle the back of your neck. “But if my lady here is searching for a deeper answer, well. Aren’t stars the ultimate embodiment of the dreams of all humankind? Even as we strive and fail towards our petty goals, the stars are always there to remind us to look up and reach for the sky”
You flick his forehead. “Pretty words, for a pretty boy”.
“Hey!” He scowls indignantly before he perks up. “Wait - did you see that? There’s a star!”
The sky clears just enough for a pale light to peer through a gauzy cloud. You do see it, and it is indeed beautiful, but your attention has already been captured by the boy beside you. And Tooru being Tooru, naturally notices.
“Why’re you staring at me instead of the sky?”
Perhaps you’re drunk on the magic of midnight skies, perhaps you want to uncover the mystery of his smile yourself. Perhaps that explains why your eyes soften and why your words fall short of a whisper.
“Because you are my sun, my moon and all my stars”, you say. “I like you better than anything in the sky.”
His mouth slackens and for a moment, his eyes are tender before his laugh breaks your flight of whimsy, and you bury your face in your hands, hot with embarrassment.
“Forget I ever said that”, you plead.
“Never!” he cries. “I’m going to remind you how cheesy you can be for the rest of your life!”
You end up having to kiss him to shut him up.
In his second year, Sakusa Kiyoomi joins his team. Tooru finally meets someone who meets his impossibly high standards to fill Iwaizumi’s place as his ace.
He’s literally bouncing on balls of his feet when he comes home after the first practice.
“He’s so prickly and unfriendly but his receiving his top notch, and his game sense is fantastic, and best of all the spin he gives to each spike makes me drool - especially when I see the look on the other side’s faces when they try receiving his ball for the first time - ha ha! ”, he talks at you at breakneck speed as you both prepare dinner, side by side at the cramped kitchen counter.
“Mmhm”, you reply, head thinking of the multiple lectures you attended today, the homework and readings you must do tonight to stay abreast.
“-it’s his wrists, they’re so flexible it nearly made me puke when I first saw him stretch them”, he continues for the rest of the night, heedless of your wavering attention.
You meet Sakusa at one of the few team parties you actually attend. You nearly stumble over him when you try to hide in your usual corner with a plate of food in your hand, watching as Tooru flutters around like the social butterfly he is. His nose and mouth are hidden behind a face mask, but even you can tell he’s uncomfortable to be around so many people, so you tug at his jacket sleeve gently to lead him away from the crowd to a seat at the top of the stairs.
You don’t expect him to speak much to you, if at all, but to your surprise, he initiates the conversation.
“He doesn’t take good care of himself”, Sakusa mutters. You nearly miss his words over the pulsing beat of the music.
“Who doesn’t?” you ask - though you already know who he’s referring to.
“It’s unhealthy, the way you push yourself”, you tell Tooru, hands on hips, standing at the door to Aoba Johsai’s sports hall. You hardly intrude here onto Tooru’s sacred space, choosing instead to stay in the library to study until he’s done with practice and you can both walk home together. But practice has long ended, and your patience has run short - not to mention Iwaizumi popped his head into the library to shoot you a worried expression, dark eyebrows pinched into a pained frown.
You are aware of Tooru’s predilection for working himself to the bone. Or to the shredded remnants of the tendon of his knee, to be more accurate. So you tap your feet, looking pointedly at said injury.
“I’m fine”, he tries to dismiss you without even looking your way.
You refuse to let him.
“You’re not fine”, you tell him coolly, taking another step towards the inner sanctum, the volleyball courts. White lines, painted into brown wood. A single ball, six per side, each jostling for their pride and god.
“Tooru -”
“I need to practice so I can win”, he snarls, handsome face mangled by an angry scowl. “Don’t be like one of those whiny girlfriends, you know I can’t stand that.”
You are not so easily hurt by the barbs in his words. “You can’t win if you’re injured”, you attempt to appeal to his reason. “You know and I know and your coach knows that that knee of yours is going to cause you problems if you don’t rest it properly. So you better listen to me, because so help me - I can tell you that you’re not going to be able to come for practice if you keep pushing yourself tonight”.
His anger simmers into a sulk. “You’re not a doctor”, he replies, a petulant whine at the tail end of his words.
“Not yet”, you respond, and at that, he laughs, surprised that your arrogance matches his own.
Your attention snaps back to the present when Sakusa calls your name. “Sorry”, you breathe. “Couldn’t quite hear you - who were you referring to again?”
“Oikawa”, Sakusa says, confirming your suspicions. “Practises even though I know his knee hurts sometimes”.
You thank him for telling you before carefully diverting the conversation to something a little more innocuous, buying yourself time to turn this new information over in your mind.
You hear him hiss as you open the front door- “Iwa-chan, don’t be stupid, I can’t tell her yet!”
It’s not an uncommon sight to come home at night to find Tooru cradling his phone to his ear whilst juggling a book in his other hand. It is the only time slot that he and Iwaizumi have to catch up.
Still, it is uncommon for him to bolt into the toilet the minute he catches sight of you.
“Is everything alright?” you ask him over dinner.
“Peachy”, he replies between spoonfuls of rice. “Never been better”.
He promptly changes the topic after that.
“Not staying home for dinner?” you ask, arms wrapped around yourself as he lets the chilly air into your apartment, sitting by the open door lacing his training shoes up.
“Wanna work in some more practice tonight”, he murmurs, gaze still locked on his shoes. “Serves and all that. Don’t wait for me, yeah?”
“Right. Just...promise me you’ll take care of yourself, Tooru”, you answer, unable to keep the disappointment from leaking into your voice.
He stands up, turns to face you with a cheery smile. “Of course I will. Anyway, don’t pout, princess”, he sing songs gaily. “We’ll spend some time together after the season is over, I promise.”
“Alright”, you say, unconvinced, reluctantly tipping your chin up to let him kiss your cheek goodbye.
“Tooru?”
You feel the mattress dip. “Go back to sleep, princess”, he whispers, pulling the sheets back up to your chin.
“Where are you going?” You mumble, squinting your eyes at the clock by the side of the bed. “It’s four in the morning. The earliest you wake up for practice is five.”
“I just wanted to practice my serves a little more.” You hear him rustle in the bathroom. Sakusa’s words echo in your ears, and you sit up, bleary eyed.
“Tooru?”
“Mm?”
“Are you taking care of your knee? And getting enough sleep?”
He stiffens. “Of course”, he replies with the tight, plastic smile he only ever gives you when he’s trying to lie. “Why’re you asking me this? Who put ideas in your pretty little head?”
For the first time in your relationship with Tooru, you take care not to accidentally tread on the faultlines of his heart.
“I worry about you”, you say, gripping your sheets as he frowns. “I don’t think you’re sleeping enough - judging from the bags under your eyes, and you shouldn’t be over practising because your knee could very act up - “
“Look - I don’t have time to deal with this” he interjects with a snap. “Just leave me alone and go back to sleep.”
“I’m only saying this because I love you, Tooru.” You automatically tack on - “More than life itself.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, breathing out a sigh. “I love you too ok? Stop worrying your pretty head about my health and my knee - we agreed you only get to nag me when you’re a full fledged doctor, remember?”, he adds, with a cheeky smile that does not reach his hooded eyes.
You let him walk out of the house without another word, cotton sheets crumpling in your clenched fists.
You don’t get to talk about it that night because he chatters at you about Sakusa’s tantrum during practice because someone hid his towel, and you can barely get a word in before he slips off to shower and sleep.
He starts to disappear for days at a time, even after the season ends with him not only taking home his second trophy at Nationals, but crowned the best setter in the collegiate volleyball league.
He tells you that there are overnight practice matches and camps. That he’s staying over at his teammates’ flats. You believe him at first. There is, after all, no reason for him to lie.
Still, it is a little funny he refuses to allow you to do his laundry from those trips. You brush away your friends’ concerns that he’s cheating on you - Tooru wouldn’t do that, you assure them with a wide smile that hurts your cheeks.
Tooru would never lie to you.
Then you bump into Sakusa Kiyoomi on campus when Tooru is away again.
It’s night time. Shadows bleed into concrete roads. You’re on your way back home from hiding up in the library all day, reluctant to return to a home without Tooru when you bump into the reticent spiker.
“Aren’t you supposed to be away at practice camp?” you ask innocently, worried that an injury might keep him from playing, though from a quick scan he seems to be fine.
“Practice camp?” He echoes blankly, his face an open book of confusion.
“Tooru mentioned that he’d be away from some practice camp for a few days...”
Your words trail off. Your heart flutters, refuses to accept the truth staring you in the face.
Sakusa frowns. His answer is brutal, direct. “There’s no training camp - hasn’t been in a while”.
“Oh”, you murmur.
Realization needles its way into the space beside your beating heart, drills its way into the marrows of your bones.
“Are you ok?” You faintly hear Sakusa say. It’s your turn to lie.
Tooru comes home the next day, a quarter past two. You’re sitting on the threadbare couch cross legged, a textbook balanced on your lap.
“Where have you been?”
“Practice camp. Didn’t I tell you that?”
You scoff. The page held between your fingers starts to crumple. Your composure frays.
“Really?” Your voice starts to veer into hysterics, straight across the highway into your emotional stratosphere. “Sakusa Kiyoomi told me that there’s no such practice camp, Oikawa. How about you try again with the truth this time.”
He reels back. You can see him trying to formulate yet another lie.
“Princess”, he begins pleadingly, but your temper runs hot and you short circuit at the sound of your nickname from his lips.
You stalk towards him, grabbing the bag in his hand. Like a woman possessed, you wrench the zip open, holding the bag open above your head, emptying its contents out. Dirty clothes, a deflated volleyball, toiletries spill onto the floor. You comb through each and every item in search of a telltale sign - a lipstick mark, a woman’s floral scent, something, anything for you to confirm his infidelity.
What you find, however, is not what you expect.
A red jersey, lying limp in your hands. A contrast to the university’s colours of navy and white.
You flip it around.
The words EJP Raijin are emblazoned across the jersey in stark white.
You look up at him. He stares back.
“Why didn’t you tell me?’
He has the decency to look away.
“Tooru”, you repeat, voice trembling. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“I was afraid of what it meant. For us”, he answers, dropping to his knees in front of you. “You know I’ve always wanted to go pro - and when the Div 1 teams started holding try-outs, I had to go. I tried out for them all except the Adlers, and EJP decided to give me a shot, which was like a dream come true… But I didn’t know if you would be happy if I did take it up.”
“Take what up?” you echo. Your mind is not keeping up with this turn of events.
“Move to Hiroshima to join the team.” He answers warily, ready to flee at the first sign of danger. “You know I’d have to, right?”
You look at him with fresh eyes, this boy you profess to love more than life itself. Wings spread from his shoulder blades, moulded by madness and greed from fire and wax. The reflection of the sun gleams in his eyes. He has left you permanently for the skies.
“What about me?” Your breath stuck in your throat even as you refuse to relinquish the last hold you have on him.
“If you love me”, he begins, reaching out to cup your cheeks and it’s your turn to reel back because you know he’s about to throw back your own words in your face.
If you love me more than life itself - won’t you do this for me?
But you are no longer eighteen. You are twenty one, on the cusp of adulthood. You know a little more about life than you did at eighteen.
You know that your life is here - in Tokyo, among dusty books and lectures and tutorials on anatomy and diseases and germs, and you cannot upend your life and uproot yourself to Hiroshima just to follow someone else’s dreams. You love Tooru, but you do not share his dreams of glory and gold medals, of fleeting victory, of Olympian greatness.
“I can’t”, you say, with a firmness that surprises even yourself.
Again, he does not meet your eyes.
“Then what shall we do?” He asks, lips pressed into a straight line.
For a brief and terrible moment, you are tempted to throw your dignity to the wind, to fall on your knees and ask him to stay in Tokyo with you. But you can no longer turn a blind eye to what’s been staring you in the face for the entire length of your relationship, so you bite the insides of your cheek and grit your teeth.
“We will do what we must”, you tell him, your head held high.
You do not know what hurts more. The lack of pause in his acceptance to your suggestion that you break up, or the painfully obvious relief in his eyes.
He goes to sleep in your shared bed, oblivious to your pain. You do not join him, choosing instead to spend hours seeking privacy in your toilet, knees aching from the cold floor.
You are clinical, even in your anguish.
Wring the liquid grief from your lungs, lay it on the floor to dry. Filter the water from your windpipe, the salt from your eyes. Your organs are scattered on the floor, battered, broken, torn. Save for your heart - you will need to retrieve it, whatever’s left of it at least. You last recall seeing it beneath Tooru’s feet, dashed to pieces as he spreads his wings and takes flight.
You will put yourself back together with steady hands tomorrow, fill the cavity in your chest with the remnants of your organs, secure them in place with stitches and staples. Given time, you think your prognosis is good.
You are young. You will heal.
But now, you are allowed an hour or two to grieve at the very least. To mourn the loss of a relationship you still hold dear, a relationship that you only realise has an expiry date in the short span of a night.
You are a fool for not realising it sooner.
Perhaps he cares for you, but you must now confront the fact that you’ve been wilfully blind to. He could never give you his heart when he’s already given his heart up to someone else - to volleyball, a far more demanding mistress.
You cannot compete with her. You should not have tried.
Tooru files the paperwork to drop out of university. You find another flat, this time for one.
In the weeks before he leaves, you watch him flit about the flat, buzzing with excitement like an overgrown child. His wings nearly suffocate you with its ever increasing breadth and length, but you do not begrudge his happiness. You still love him desperately. You still want what’s best for him.
You write him meal plans, scribble reminders on the proper care for his knee. You help him label his boxes, arrange for them to be sent to Hiroshima via post. You do not tell him how tempted you are to slip yourself whole into one of them. But you start to build a cage for the remnants of your heart, turning a deaf ear even as it pounds against the bars of your ribs.
The time finally comes for him to get on a train bound for Hiroshima. The time finally comes for you to leave the flat.
“Princess”, he says softly, catching your elbow as you stand on the threshold, pulling you flush against his broad chest. You do not trust yourself to speak as he gently tilts your face up to his.
“Thank you”, he breathes against your lips. There is a lingering taste of regret in his kiss.
“For what?” you manage to ask.
His eyes pool with affection, swirl with sadness.
“For everything.” He takes your hands in his, presses a final kiss to your forehead. Your traitorous heart screeches at you to beg him to say. You smother it beneath reinforced walls of steel and bone.
Icarus, Icarus. This is goodbye.
You make him leave before you, watching as he turns his back on you. Then you steal a minute to potter through each room in the little flat that was your home. The bedroom, barely large enough for two. The bathroom, with a propensity for leaking, the shower where Tooru insists on serenading the neighbours, much to their discontent. The kitchen, full of memories of shared dinners, and quiet conversations.
You bid farewell to two full years of happiness, press your forehead against the front door to whisper goodbye to your home.
The lock clicks. You close the door.

Are you wearing my shirt?
Pairing: Ushijima Wakatoshi x reader
Description: A day in with Toshi~
Warnings: -
Rating: -
Notes: Dude I saw this one meme thing on Pinterest and it went like:
Oikawa: Bloody Mary..Bloody Mary..Bloody Mary..
*lights are off and he looks into the mirror*
*Ushijima shows up in the mirror with his arms open*
Ushijima: you should have come to Shiratorizawa..
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/66fa7466a06d63ec2440421323745ca8/9ae3b2c67609f389-31/s540x810/0252058c513a58272915aff11174446d8817008f.jpg)
Me and Toshi were sitting in my apartment watching some random show on Netflix. It wasn’t anything particularly interesting, but I was so bored that it was the best thing to watch.
Ushijimia was laying his head in my lap while he traced shapes on my exposed thighs.
“Y/n..”
I ran my hand through his hair and looked down at his wandering eyes.
“Are you wearing my shirt?”
I blushed and looked down, as if I didn’t know what I was wearing.
“Um, you were away today and I missed you..plus, it smells like you..”
He laughed deeply and brought a hand up to caress my face.
“You’re so cute..”
“I wish you could have come to Shiratorizawa!”
I buffed up my arms and deepened my voice.
“Oh come on!”
He covered his face as I laughed and rested a hand on his chest.
“You and everyone else make fun of me for that..but it’s true! Oikawa and I would be unstoppable together..not to mention Tendou too!”
I smiled and moved around to where I’m laying beside him.
I propped my leg over his abdomen and tossed my arm over his chest.
We laid there in silence, just listening to the breathing of one another for a few minutes.
“I never knew I could possess such feelings..”
I turned my head and met his eyes with my own.
“Hm?”
He held my hand in his tightly.
“We act like we have been lifelong best friends, but we feel as if we were made for each other and love one another.”
His eyes were getting glossy as he spoke.
“There is something between us and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever felt..”
His lip quivered and he whispered ‘thank you.’
A tear ran down his cheek. I wiped it away and played with his hair.
“You know..I’ve always dreamt since I was little that I would grow up and find the soulmate I knew had to be out in this world somewhere. I had thoughts and dreams and stories of what I wanted it to be like, my lifelong love..but when I am with you, Toshi, I feel like I’ve gotten my wish and even more.”
“Really?”
His hand tenses around mine. I smile and kiss his nose.
“You are everything I had hoped for and dreamt about. I want to stay on this planet with you forever and never leave your side.”
We rested our foreheads against one another’s.
“It was always you..y/n.”

Comforting them after losing a game
Includes: Oikawa Tooru, Ushijima Wakatoshi, Kageyama Tobio, and Keiji Akaashi x G/N reader.
Warnings: the boys doubting themselves and cursing(I think I only said one bad word in kageyamas but whatever)
Rant: Ok, I feel like this post is actual shit. Like I say that about almost all of my posts- but this one is very bad. The only good one is Ushijimas I think, so I hope I do all of the characters a little justice tho. Also sorry that I haven't been posting much (for like two weeks) I have been very busy, and been dealing with writer's block. I will try and post something else some time next week. Think it's gonna be fluff for MHA tho. Anyways, HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS!!!!!
Oikawa Tooru~
It all happened too fast. He could have sworn that they were just in the lead, ahead of Shiratorizawa by two points. He was so close to beating them. And now what is he going to say to you, or the team? He promised all of you that they will win this only to not fulfill it. Slowly dragging his feet out of the gym, Oikawa starts to feel tears building up in his vision. ‘No you can't cry right now.’ Oikawa thinks as he starts to pick up a pace. Maybe this is all just a bad dream and he will wake up soon.. Yeah that sounds right. He can wake up and have a fresh start of the day, win against Shiratorizawa, then celebrate with his team mates, and to top it all off go over your house and cuddle the whole night. Oh how lovely that sounds, only if that wasn't another fantasy planted in his head.
Overwhelmed with emotions Oikawa finally comes out of the locker rooms, only to see you sitting on the floor. “What are you still doing here baby?” You look up to see Oikawa putting on a fake smile that makes your heart break. “Come here..” You say rising to a standing position, with your arms open and welcoming. Oikawa doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms around you, and be consumed by your warmth. “You did amazing out there handsome.” Those few words made Oikawa feel butterflies in his stomach. The only thing that could make him feel better were your praises. But he still couldn't help the small ache in his chest, remembering that he promised everyone that they would win this game and make it to nationals. “If I did good then why didn't we win?” He says with a slight crack in his voice, making an ache of your own spread through your chest. “Maybe it was just luck. You were only off by one point, plus if it makes you feel better you'll be able to beat their ass in spring!” A breathy chuckle escaped from Oikawa's mouth, causing a grin to form on your face. “You're right baby, we will beat them in spring.”
Ushijima Wakatoshi~
Ushijima wasn't used to losing. The reality didn't hit him until he heard the opposing teams audience cheer. Looking over to the scoreboard when he hears the whistle being blown, only to see that his team has lost. A bitter taste settles on Ushijima’s tongue. But he is once again pulled out of his thoughts by a hand resting on his shoulder. He turns around to see his team standing behind him with a look of true defeat. “C’mon Ushijima, we have to line up” Tendou says with a tone a little different from his usual cheery one. Not knowing what to say Ushijima just grunts with a small nod.
Walking outside of the gym Ushijima starts to replay the game in his head to try and see where they went wrong, but soon was interrupted by some arms wrapping around him from behind. “Hi bubs.” you say nuzzling your head into his back. “Hello Y/N.” “Soooo…” you try to think of what to say that will make Ushijima feel better, but it's hard to do so when he can be very blunt at some points and not understand what you are trying to get at. “Yes?” Ushijima says tugging at the sleeve of your jacket to gain your attention back to him. “How are you feeling after the game?” There is a little moment of silence that comes over the two of you causing a slight panic cloud in your mind, because what if he took your question the wrong way- “I don’t know how to feel about losing, I'm upset because we put a lot of effort in that game just to lose. But they won fairly, so I guess that just shows that we weren't good enough.” Ushijima states bluntly. You're kind of taken back by his answer, but notice how his eyes show more emotion than his words. You could tell that he was more than just upset. “Don't say that Ushijima, you guys did amazing out there. You guys were only off by a couple points!” You say as you take Ushijima’s hand into your own. “But still we tried our best and it wasn't enough.” You felt his hands tremble a little in your touch, looking at him with a soft gaze you say “I'm sorry bub, you will get them next time though, I know you will because you are good enough.” Ushijima nods and mumbles a thank you, while gently squeezing your hand. It's times like this, when Ushijima shows you his vulnerable side, that you hold dear to your heart.
Kageyama Tobio~
Kageyama dreaded feeling the pain in his chest after losing a game. He would never get used to it, and doesn't really care enough too anyways. Maybe if he didn't send the ball to Hinata, knowing that the idiot will just close his eyes, then they could have won. But even then Oikawa’s tricky serves would still be a pain to work around. Not to mention how fast the whole team learns their opponents weaknesses. Kageyama had gotten so lost in his thoughts that he forgot he had to meet up with you at a cafe in 6 mins. Today seems to just get worse and worse by the second and he doesn't know if he will be able to keep himself together for much longer.
You hear the bell on the cafe door ring, causing you to turn around and see that all too familiar face. Kageyama walks over to you and takes his seat. Only when he finally looks up you notice that he is panting. “Did you run all the way here kags?” “Yeah, would have been late if I didn't.” Kageyama never liked being late to anything that has to do with you, it makes him feel guilty, and he doesn't want to add upsetting you to the list of shitty things that have happened today. “I'm ok with you being a little late baby, especially when you just got back from your game…” Kageyeama drops his gaze back down to the table remembering that was the first game you got to see him play in just for them to lose, how embarrassing- “Sorry, I didn't mean to bring it up.” you say rubbing the back of your neck. “It's ok….” “Look at the menu and pick what you want, it's on me!” Kageyama shoots his head up and stares at you with wide eyes “Idiot im not letting you pay.” He mumbles while a blush spreads across his face. “Aww c'mon babe I can pay, let me get you some comfort food!” “Comfort food?” “Yeah food always helps me with stress” Before Kageyama could think over his next words, his mouth and brain betrayed him. “I think cuddles would make me feel better.” Both of you are taken back by his words, Kageyama was always so stubborn, forcing you to pick up hints from his behavior and piece them together to know what he wants. But you don't mind the forwardness; it helps you get straight to the point. Kageyama on the other hand is freaking out, he doesn't know if he was being too blunt or not, and your silence is not helping. “Never mind… forget what I said” “Whattttt, that sucks cause I was going to say yes but since you insist.” “Shut up, we can head over to mine after eating, the meal that I will be paying for, and cuddle. Now pick what you want already I don't have all day.” “Sir yes sir!” You say with a salute. “Dont do that you look dumb” Kageyama says, while trying to supress a grin. “You're so meannnnn” You whine with a pout. Even though Kageyama is teasing you the only thing you seem to be able to focus on is the way he starts to let loose and laugh around you. And when you look into his eyes all you see is love, not a trace of sorrow.
Akaashi Keiji~
It's only been a few minutes since the tragic game has ended and akaashi is already past the limit of stress he can handle. From the fact that they actually lost a game, while also trying to encourage the team and tell them that they will do better next time, and also trying to help bokuto get out of emo mode akaashi was starting to get a headache and wanted to just go home to sulk and attempt to relax. So once when he gets out of the shower akaashi throws on some clothes and runs out the locker room to the front gate. Not expecting you to be there waiting for him.
As Akaashi approaches the front gate he sees you standing there alone. “Y/N, what are you doing here? It's getting late.” “I know, I just wanted to check up on you” Akaashi looks into your worried eyes, causing him to feel a little guilt. Is he the cause of the expression on your face? “Oh well then can I walk you home?” You nod in approval, letting him take your hand and lead the way. A comfortable silence takes over the two of you, but you still can't help but feel like something is still off about Akaashi today, and none of his fake smiles and replies will put this thought at ease. “Hey Akaashi?” “Yes?” you stay silent for a little trying to think of the right words to say. “You know you guys did amazing at the game today right?” Akaashi hums in response, as the hold on your hand becomes a little shaky. “Good, because it's the truth. Just don't beat yourself up about it, you're great at what you do. Even though you guys didn't win I know you are still deserving of it. The only reason your opponents had a chance, was because of the chance balls. Plus you and your team have way more chemistry with each other then they did, it's almost like all of you can read each other's minds… Sorry I was rambling again.” Akaashi turns around and stares at you this time with a real smile on his face. “It's ok love, I think it's cute when you run your mouth. Now why don't we head over to your house instead? I want you to help me get rid of my stress, ok?” “And how can I help you with that?” Akkashi brings your hand towards his lips and gives it a quick kiss. “Cuddles of course, and let me eat whatever food you got in your house.” Akaashi says with a wink. On your way home you can't help but admire your caring boyfriend, always making time for you even when he's too emotionally and physically tired.

How they meet their Darling (Yandere haikyuu!!)
Ushijima and Kageyama
Kageyama
Kageyama is a man who doesn’t pay attention. To anything really.
Anything but Volleyball, that is.
It’s not until you are sitting next to him in class that he even knows you exist.
You give him a simple poke, and he jerks up, looks at you, and goes to lean back down.
“Aren’t you the setter for the volleyball team?”
“Yeah, why?”
“I just heard he didn’t pay attention, guess they were right.” You laugh to yourself, roll your eyes and go back to looking at your notes as the teacher drones on.
Kageyama puts his head back in his arms.
That was weird.
And the next day, when he’s strategizing for practice in his notebook.
“So what's the rest of the team like?”
“Annoying, why?”
“Just trying to start a conversation.” You sigh, and turn back to your own notebook.
“Ask me when I’m not thinking about volleyball.”
“Ok.” The conversation ends until Kageyama can stop thinking about volleyball.
You’ll find him when he does.
You don’t find him.
Maybe it’s because, contrary to popular belief, Kageyama is in fact, surprisingly, not more emotional or expressive than a brick wall.
But he’s stopped thinking about volleyball. For a few moments in class. While he’s looking at a tree, or when he sleeps.
Dreams that once were about setting the perfect spike, turn to you sitting in the bleachers, watching him set that damned spike.
That tree he’s looking at? You’re sitting under it, telling him that his form is almost perfect.
And in class?
He almost wants you to ask about how to set. How even you, could become a better volleyball player.
It gets bad. To the point where you and volleyball are synonymous. He can’t have one without thinking about the other.
He has a problem with you.
Or more, that he doesn’t understand why you aren’t at his games or aren’t under that tree talking about his posture.
And maybe? It’s a little bit a problem with why you’re always on his mind.
He doesn’t get why he feels warmth sitting near you.
You aren’t the rush he feels when he’s playing a match.
Yet his heart still beats faster.
He’ll ask you about it. He catches you after school, but he won’t be late for practice, you’ll come with him.
He finds you by that tree.
“Why do I feel warm when I’m near you?”
“Cause I’m really hot?” It’s a deadpan answer for a deadpan question. “I don’t know, why do you feel warm when I’m near you?”
“You should watch my games.” Your eyes widen and blink twice.
“What?”
“You wanted to know what the team was like right?”
“Sure, I guess,”
“Then come on.”
You sit in on a practice three v three.
It’s pretty intense, Hinata is playing against him, he’s setting some shots to be hit by Tanaka, Noya is rolling his thunder, all in all? A close game.
But Kageyama always comes out on top.
If it wasn’t for his pride, then maybe it was to impress you.
The you, who was now talking to a very excited Nishinoya.
The short Libero had apparently caught your eye with his flashy-as-all-hell style of playing.
But what was the point of you being here if you weren’t going to watch him?
In all his dreams and thoughts, you were watching him.
His chest aches when you don’t pay attention to him.
Kageyama just doesn’t feel complete.
He hears his knuckles crack before he feels it.
“Hey. Come with me.” He glares down at Nishinoya who just smirks right back at him.
You have the audacity to laugh.
“Yeah yeah, I’m coming,” you send a smile to Noya as you try to keep pace with Kageyama’s long legs. “We’ll continue our conversation later, yeah?”
“Yeah!” Nishinoya barely even gets through the word befor Kageyama slams the door to the gym.
No one is around, it’s just the two of you.
Kageyama’s ache goes away and his shoulders realesed tension that wouldn’t be good if they played another match.
“What were you doing in there?!” He’s aware he’s loud, but when isn’t he? This is normal. The only abnormal thing here is you and the way his heart beats around you.
“I was talking to Noya, got a problem with that?”
What didn’t he have a problem with? You were on a nickname basis with Nishinoya, you didn’t look at him at all during the game. And he still didn’t know why he felt so warm around you.
“Why didn’t you look at me?”
“I didn’t know I had to look at his majesty, the king.”
Well shit. It feels to natural for Kageyama to do this, like he’s setting for Hinata and they pull of their quick attack.
He punches you. A little above your gut. He watches as you stumble back and clutch your chest. The way you breath to get air makes him feel a little colder inside. That’s not right.
“What. The. Fuck!” You take a breath after yelling at the top of your lungs. “Kageyama, what the fuck, why’d you hit me?” You take a few more breaths and another step back.
Why are you yelling at him again? Because he tried to let you know that you should look at him? Not Nishinoya?
Looking at him would improve his game. Telling him he was almost perfect would improve his game. Yelling, looking at others and cussing? Oh the cussing would not improve his game. He’s fairly certain that is someone were to cuss loudly as part of a chant, they’d be kicked out of the gym.
And he can’t have that now. You have to watch him.
For the whole game.
“Talk to me asshole! I might be willing to let it slide i-” his arm moves on it’s own, fingers wrap harshly around skin.
You’re relatively light as it so turns out.
“Don’t cuss, it’ll be a shit ton to deal with in games.” Your hands pull at his wrist desperately.
Your eyes are pleading with him and he feels a jolt up his spine as he watches you struggle, mouth open, nostrils flaring.
“And don’t look at anyone else. Got it?” You take a few more gasps. He’s not being to harsh is he? He’s being firm, and that’s good when your talking to people. You nod furiously in response to his demands.
He releases you from his grasp and you immediately drop onto the sidewalk, one of your hands goes to rub at your neck while the other is splayed on the ground. You take shallow breaths as Kageyama just watches.
Eventually you sit up, and the hand on the ground cups the part of your stomach he hit.
“When-” You take a deeper breath the time, exhaling through your mouth. You’re looking at the sky. “When is your next game?”
“February 18th. I’d like you to be there.” He tries to offer a smile, the kind his Sister told him weren’t creepy.
“Ok,” you nod quickly. For a small second, Kageyama’s eyes meet yours.
He feels warmer than he normally did with you, and he can hear his heartbeat.
“Please uhhh,” He can feel the blush on his cheeks. “Call me Ka-Kageyama.”
“Kageyama?” Your eyes aren’t so wide as you look at his shoes.
He nods and leaves for the rest of practice, you don’t follow, but that’s alright. You’ll find him.
You do find him.
And the next day when he doesn’t see a bruise around your neck, he feels a little bad.
You would’ve looked cute with a dark purple handprint on your neck.
Ushijima
You should’ve gone to Shiratorizawa.
Really, you should’ve.
Being an assistant manager to Kurasuno was just going to drive you insane. When he first saw you, you were in the thick of some team discussion.
They were taking a break in between the sets, and Kurasuno was still bickering over how they were to play the game.
You were trying to act as a voice of reason, talking over the others in a calm manner and asking your team to “please take turns speaking”
In true Crow-like fashion, they continue to caw loudly until their coach yells for their attention.
He thinks you’re cute, how you thank the coach with your embarrassed, red cheeks.
But he has a game to finish and win. And then he can see how cute you are when you comfort Kurasuno.
Shiratorizawa wins easy, between Ushijima and the orange haired kid? Ushijima would clearly come out on top.
Ushijima watches as you look with such empathy in your eyes.
You look like you’re about to hug each of the Team. And then, you do.
He’s right, you really are cuter after he beats the crows.
It’s fucking adorable how you furrow your brow and bite your lip as you comfort someone who’s crying.
He wishes he could hear the tender shush you give the person, and though he hasn’t heard your voice he can picture you so clearly with a child in your arms and singing lullabies. He’s standing in the doorway and you smile up at him.
He smiles back.
And your hugging the Kurasuno boys like he’d want to hold you, so tender and delicate when you catch his smile.
You give an affirmative nod and smile before you hug a teammate.
It almost like he’s being pushed forwards to walk over towards you.
You manage to pat the next boy on his shaved head before you give a little wave, say some words and walk over to Ushijima.
You meet in the middle of the gym.
“I figured I should talk to you away from the team, I’m sure they’d have a-a reaction, to your being there.” You shoot a worried glance behind you towards the boys who have a similar expression on their faces.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.”
The two of you stand in silence, both of your teams are trying to ignore you.
“So-” You begin to speak before Ushijima rests a large hand on your shoulder.
“You’re cute.” He doesn’t give compliments he doesn’t mean. You are the cutest damn thing he’s ever seen.
“I-oh! Thank you!”
Your teams are a mixed bag of staring at the two of you, and the ceiling.
“Was that all?” You speak up first, and aren’t unkind with your intonation.
“Yes,” Ushijima looks down at you, and once again, gives a small smile.
“My team is eager to play against you next time, good luck,” You have a smile brighter than the sun. “Shiratorizawa is gonna need it!” A laugh that carries lighter than the wind too.
Ushijima just nods again and has to tear his eyes away from your lips.
The team is completely silent before he returns.
Goshiki is starry eyed as Ushijima stands there listening to Tendou’s ramblings and the rest of the team just watches that shit go down.
Soon after, the Kurasuno team starts packing up to leave.
“I’ll run back.”
“Is it because you want to talk to that person?” Semi sounds exhausted.
“More or less.”
Ushijima tunes the white noise from his team yes out for a second, before he hears a sharp “Dissmissed!” From Coach Washijo.
He immediately turns around to try and look for you.
The only people left in the gym are Kurasuno’s setter and the kid with Orange hair. You’ve gone somewhere else.
“Where’s your assistant manager?”
“Oh they’re talking to someone!” Orange hair. “They told you we’d beat you next time, and we will!”
“You won’t.” And Ushijima walks out of the doors of Kurasuno’s gym.
He sets a light jog, maybe once he’d find you he’d ask you on a date?
Or maybe, he’s ask you to be his partner. Regardless, he should sure you get home safely.
He finds you with little difficulty, you’re barely off campus and smiling at your phone as you wait to cross an intersection.
“Hey.”
You jump at the sudden intrusion of his voice, and take out an earbud he didn’t notice you had in.
“Oh, hi!” You flash him your third smile of the day. He can feel his heart swell in his chest. “Are you running home?”
“Yes.”
“Have a nice run!” And the intersection clears for you to put your earbud back in, and continue on your route home.
He takes a breath, waits a second and jogs at a slower pace behind you.
“So, why are you going this way, isn’t Shiratorizawa the other direction?”
“Yes.” You look at him with wide eyes. “I get more exersize this way.”
“Oh! I get it, like when Asahi goes on his runs and decides to take detours through trees!”
“Who’s Asahi?”
“He’s our Ace, the tall guy with the bun.”
“Huh.”
“Enjoy your run, you’re gonna need it for the next time you play against us!” Your wind chime laughter echoes in his ears as you wave him a goodbye.
You’re taking a left.
Ushijima takes a left.
You either hear his footsteps or see his shadow, because you turn around.
Your lips aren’t being bitten, your brow isn’t furrowed but you look like you did during the match.
You look worried.
“Listen, I know you probably didn’t pick up on it and you seem really nice, but I’m not really looking for a relationship right now. Please, stop following me.”
“Ok.” It isn’t a setback. Ushijima will be with you eventually. It must’ve been those rowdy crows. They’re incompetent and altogether too used to roughhousing. Of course you wouldn’t want a relationship when those were the kind of people you were around, it made all volleyball players seem immature.
Ushijima is not immature.
“O-oh!” You smile again, almost like you took off a mask you had been wearing. “Normally that goes a lot less smoothly. Thanks for understanding!”
“Can I walk you back to your home?”
“As friends right?”
“As friends.” The words taste bitter on his tongue but it’s a necessary step. Like getting manure before you plant your crops.
“Thank you again for understanding!”
It’s an easy enough walk, about two blocks away.
Too quickly are you at the door to your home.
Too soon do you thank Ushijima for understanding your situation and close the door behind you.
Too slowly does Ushijima notice the man walking towards your door.
Tall with a bun.
Kurasuno’s Ace.
Whatever his name was.
“Hello.”
“Oh uh, hey!” He sounds a little meek.
“I walked them home.”
“Uhh thanks man,” The Ace scratches his neck as he walks by Ushijima. “Have a nice day I guess,” The man emits an awkward laugh, and knocks quickly on your door.
It opens, and your eyes are the sun and moon to him.
You hug the man in front of you, quickly drawing him inside the house with what Ushijima thought was an “I missed you,”
Oh.
You lied.
Well, Ushijima could live with that, but maybe when he married you, you wouldn’t be allowed to leave the house.
If you lied to him now, at the beginning of your relationship, how comfortable would you be lying to him when married?
And Kurasuno’s Ace.
It wasn’t like he hadn’t beaten him before.
It would be just like last time.
Kurasuno wouldn’t win.

Chapter twenty three: “Bokuto Hates Goodbyes”
Masterpost - Prev - Next.
Warning(s): post-timeskip manga spoilers!!
────────∘°❉°∘────────
“Tendou is going to quit volleyball after graduating. He wants to go to Paris to work as a chocolatier” you said, never taking your eyes off him. You sighed again, trying to find the words to tell him. Bokuto noticed your pause and smiled at you waiting for you to reply. “And I... I'm going with him.”
Koutarou's smile faded, along with the hope in his heart.
Silence took over the atmosphere. You were trying to look at Bokuto, but he kept his gaze on the snowy ground. Neither of you had opened your mouths to say anything. Maybe because the correct words did not exist to express what you were feeling at that moment; you, remorse, and Bokuto didn't even know what to feel. Sadness, melancholy, happiness because you are going to fulfill your dream... fear of being forgotten.
So many things to say, feel, live.
“Why?” he asked, still with his gaze on the floor.
“Why…?” you lashed several times. “Because I want to be a baker, fulfill my dream and my grandmother's... It's what I want, Kou.”
Koutarou started to shake his head from side to side, his hands over his hair.
“Yes I know, but Paris?” Bokuto looked at you for the first time, his eyes filling with tears. “That's like a million miles away!”
The snow kept falling on you two and the cold seemed to increase, but neither appeared to notice. The moment seemed eternal: Bokuto's tears that still did not come out, the imminent farewell, the silence that still continued ...
“We can continue to be friends, Koutarou, you shouldn't worry” the Owl turned to the opposite side of the school, and started walking away quickly. “Bokuto! Bokuto!” there was still no response on his part. “Koutarou, wait!”
Even though in his mind Bokuto had planned not to return, hearing his name come out of your mouth once more, he stopped short. He quickly turned to see you, your nose was red from the cold, and smoke came out every time you spoke when you apologized to him.”
“I don't want to be friends” shouted Bokuto looking straight into your eyes, with a tear rolling on his cheek. “I do not want you to go! W-we're just getting to know each other! It's not fair.”
Bokuto pouted while still staring at you.
“We still have time, I won't be leaving for another month,” you said, but you knew it wasn't enough time. Not even a thousand years would be. “We'll talk on the phone!”
Promises that were very difficult to keep. Even if you wanted to, with the exams that would be shortly, and then in the cooking academy, it would be impossible to maintain much contact. You didn't know if you could even keep it with Emiko and Wakatoshi.
“Don't say things that later won't be true,” Bokuto said for the last time, wiping the tears that fell from his eyes. “Bye, y/n.”
And in a last act of desperation, you grabbed Koutarou by the wrist and then grabbed his coat tightly, then brought your lips together with his.
After a few seconds, the light of a flash interrupted you.
“I'm sorry?” Emiko said with a nervous little smile. She had taken a picture of you kissing, and now she was slowly walking away so she could escape your creepy gaze. “I better go, haha. Byeee.”
Again the silence had taken over the environment. But this time, Bokuto's face was completely changed. His cheeks were flushed and he had a big smile on his lips.
“You like me too?” he asked suddenly.
And even though you were speechless, you were able to whisper a little “yes”. Bokuto without warning held you with his arms, hugging you, and then started jumping up and down several times.
“Wait, we were fighting two minutes ago,” he said, making an angry face, but then his true colors showed and he started laughing. “Hey Hey hey! It no longer matters, we must take advantage of every second. Get ready, y/n, I'll come tomorrow at nine in the morning! Well maybe not that early, but I'll come before lunch!”
And here was another example where you could see the captain of Fukurodani change his mood quickly.
You said goodbye and you entered the academy again, thinking about how to assassinate Emiko.
Tomorrow would be the last day you would see Bokuto in a long time.
And maybe forever.

────────∘°❉°∘────────
Just as Koutarou had said the night before, at eleven in the morning he was at Shiratorizawa's gate, waiting for you to come out. It was not as early as he would have liked, but he had also arrived very late at the hotel, so he needed to sleep as well. Even though you were already walking towards the exit, two people arrived before you.
“Hello, Bokuto-san,” Tendou greeted. “Let's get straight to the point, what are your intentions with the little y/n? Ushijima and I are not very convinced that you go out with her so often. You were too late last night, and now it's too early. I hope you are not doing strange things out there. This is not Tokyo, my friend.”
“He is not your friend, Tendou” Ushijima said in a whisper, with his deep voice.
“I know, best friend, but I want to intimidate him” Satori whispered back, but he didn't realize that Bokuto had heard everything.
In the distance, you came walking next to Emiko. You had already forgiven her for last night's photo, although she still hadn't deleted it from Twitter, and had even put it as your profile picture for a few hours until you noticed and took it out. You can tell that Tsukasa almost ran out of roommates.
“Hey, aren't those Satori and Wakatoshi talking to your boyfriend?” She asked you, pointing to your friends and the one who wasn't your boyfriend really.
“I'm going to kill them.”
You sped up your pace to get there as quickly as possible and avoid disaster before it happens. But to your surprise, when you got to where the three of them were, all you could hear was laughter. Yes, even Ushijima.
“What is happening here?” you asked, raising an eyebrow at Satori, who you thought was responsible for this situation. And as always, you were right.
“Oh, nothing, y/n. Just old friends remembering old times” said Tendou with a rather forced laugh. Then, Ushijima and Bokuto also began to laugh out loud, while Koutarou made a danger signal with his eyes, and Emiko watched the situation in disbelief.
“I think Koutarou and I should go now” and before any of your friends could say anything, you grabbed him by the sleeve of his jacket and trotted off to Miyagi's main park.
Behind you, you could hear Tendou's screams calling for you to come back, but you ignored them and kept walking quickly in front of Bokuto.
Arriving at the park you could see several children with their parents playing in the snow, despite not having snowed today, there was still a little snow on the trees and grass.
“Thanks for saving me, things were getting ugly there,” he said as he took your hand that was on his sleeve, to be holding hands normally. “I have bad news.”
More bad news? You didn't think you were going to be able to endure another misfortune this weekend. It seems that Bokuto noticed your desperate face and squeezed your hand tightly to encourage you.
“They have suspended my bus for tomorrow, they say there will be a snowstorm in the afternoon so they have changed the schedule.” Nothing went right for tragic volleyball lovers. “I'm leaving tonight, so we can't see each other tomorrow.”
The world fell at your feet. How could everything go wrong for you? A lot of drama has existed lately.
“And now what?” you asked him.
“We live in the moment!” and without saying anything else, Bokuto started to run towards the ice skating rink, never letting go of your hand.
The ice was full of small children, who watched Koutarou every time he made a few meters and fell letting out a scream. The kids laughed at the Owl's exaggeration, causing him to make it even more dramatic to obtain more laughter. Every time you fell, Bokuto would rush to get up and ask you if you were okay, even if you were laughing at yourself and had not suffered any injuries.
After skating for half an hour or so, you decided to go for lunch because it was already quite late. You went to the same cafeteria that you had gone to the day before, and you ordered something warm since today's temperature was even colder than yesterday’s.
At the end of lunch, Bokuto asked you to show him around the city, although there was not much to show as it was quite small compared to Tokyo. You showed him where Karasuno High was, but you didn't go there since it was relatively far from where you were. He took several photos and sent them to Akaashi, and then to his mother.
The hours passed quickly, reaching the time of curfew, which meant that you had to go back to school, and Bokuto to his hotel to find his bags and go to the station. Unfortunately, you could not accompany him before his bus leaves.
“It's time to say goodbye,” you told him once at the entrance of the academy. "Thanks for coming to visit me, Kou.”
Before saying something to you, Bokuto put his arms around you. This time neither of you were crying, nor were sad. You were happy for the time you spent together.
“Goodbye, y/n, I'm going to miss you” and with a lot of bravery in his heart, Koutarou brought his lips to yours one last time.
“I promise to call you.”
And so, Bokuto Koutarou said goodbye with a sad smile, knowing that that promise was nothing more than an empty promise.
And that at the end of all, it would not be kept.

I love your Kagehina fics. Thanks for sorting them out in your carrd. I'm eagerly waiting every Saturday for the Job update!:))
You replied to a similar ask like this on how the Haikyuu manga ending felt for you about Kagehina but what do you think about 387 ? I just want to know from a fic writer like you who thinks of different scenarios did that chapter surprise you or did you see it coming?
ahhhh gosh even thinking of that chapter puts tears in my eyes 😭
It DID surprise me, but hmmm its hard to explain - it’s almost like, even in my wildest dreams I didn’t expect to have something so profound occur to solidify their dynamic and relationship in that way? That the one who defined Kageyama’s childhood the most basically told him to be strong, and the person he was waiting for would find him, and then that person wound up being Hinata just felt too good to be true T_T I love the official translation, that this person would find Kageyama.
I felt it on several levels too, both as a shipper of course, but also as someone who loves character dynamics and found family in stories, that it would be this explicitly stated was such a beautiful and wonderful message, I thought. Of finding and cherishing those people closest to you, the people who stand by you (or in this case, on the court with you) to make you the strongest version of yourself. After everything they have been through, separately and together, it just makes me so happy that they found each other.
I didn’t see it coming, but it was something I think Furudate meant to reorient our understand of the entire series, painting it in a wholly different light, so it was surprising, but in the most welcome way possible. We were missing a key piece of information all along, and it was that Kageyama has been searching, he wasn’t content with sitting around waiting to be found. And then you get the sense that the instant he saw Hinata in middle school, Kageyama sensed that this was the person who was meant to find him. I’m not even sure if he fully realized it when they first met, but I definitely think he must have had it in the back of his mind, whether subconsciously or not. He was just coming off so much loneliness but he is continuing to work so hard (pushing too hard - because soon after his grandpa’s death is when it seems like the kitagawa incident happened) and then suddenly there Hinata is, right in front of him, just like his grandpa said. Right when Kageyama needed him most. And then again, after he fails to get into Shiratorizawa, but finds Hinata at Karasuno. He had to have sensed something... and maybe that’s why he was so pissed to realize Hinata had such a long way to go lol. I think he was mainly mad about Hinata not being very good because he needed Hinata to hurry the fuck up and get on his level XD
And the beauty of their kinship is that because Hinata is His Person, he just like... does that. Hinata gets there because he wants to be on Kageyama’s level, surpass him even. He promised they would meet on the world stage. To have someone who understands you like that, who would do that for you, who would keep you in mind all those years... and to be someone’s drive and their goal and their challenge the way they are for each other... I mean, much of it is that they both just have simple volleyball brains and are idiots, but it’s also so gut-wrenchingly special that words fail me. I simply, as they say, cannot
So yes! I was very happy and surprised, but I think a lot of my surprise came from being just so... fulfilled, by the depth of their connection and the history behind it, and that Furudate would define it to such a degree. It felt like such an amazing culmination of Haikyuu and the characters’ journeys as a whole, and I just was knocked flat on my ass by my gratitude that it was something we got to see happen ^^

(also I got so emotional about 387 immediately that i forgot to say - THANK YOU for the kind words on my fics!!! So happy you are enjoying the job, and also, that my carrd was useful :3)

{HC} Dreams and Kisses
Here are some sweet setters asking the Manager of Shiratorizawa out!
Includes: Oikawa, Sugawara, Kageyama, Akaashi and Kenma x Manager!Reader
Warnings- Slight mention of blood in Suga’s.
{A/n- This is my first ever Head canon so please don’t be afraid to tell me how I can improve! And, I hope you enjoy!}
Oikawa-
So the first time this boy met you was at a game where they were playing Shiratorizawa
Que Wakatoshi walking up to Oikawa, the pretty setter rolling his eyes because bby boy knows what’s coming.
“Oikawa, you should’ve come to-“ A swift volleyball to the head cause Wakatoshi to stop talking and Oikawa to stand in shock
That’s when the most attractive person he has ever seen appeared in front of him
And believe me, bby boy has looked in the mirror multiple times
You grabbed Wakatoshi by the ear and scolded him
“leave Oikawa alone you overgrown statue!”
The comment cause Oikawa to cackle as you apologized with Wakatoshi still in hand
As you took him away Oikawa was left standing there gaping at your back
Bby boy realized he should’ve gone to Shiratorizawa
Oikawa couldn’t get you off of his mind, so when he heard he was going to a training camp and Shiratorizawa would be there, boy was vibrating due to excitement.
Boy managed to spend every second he wasn’t training with you, or he would leave you gifts if he knew he was going to be busy all day
This is how you started to wake up to a bouquet of different flowers he had picked every morning
On the last day of training camp, you were both very close and he was helping you pack your things
Took so much time due to the sheer amount of gifts
This is when he pulled out a stuffed teddy of himself and gave it to you
“y/n, I don’t want you to miss me too much when I’m not around so here”
You start to panic saying how you haven’t got him anything
Smooth bby pulls you close “just give me your heart Y/n” and kisses you
You become a puddle in his arms and give into his kiss.
Sugawara-
God he’s so cute I can’t!
Training with the boys had gotten you pretty accustom to flying volleyballs, However what you hadn’t expected to be smacked in the back of the head with one after Hinata forgot to actually aim the ball
Sweet baby got so many death stares of Shiratorizawa
Sugawara was the first one to reach you and help you sit up
he tried to ask you if you were okay but all forms of words got caught in his throat as he stared into your eyes
That was until blood started dripping from your nose due to your ever-so-graceful face plant
Mom-mode activate
Boy picked up up like it was nothing and rushed to the first-aid room
he stayed with you, making sure to get you water and food
grazing his hand as you took the cup of water had you blushing
staring to get worried he leaned in to check if you had a fever and ended up inches away from your lips
The boy blushed when he realized how close he was to you but couldn’t stop looking at you, begging himself to kiss you
Just as he worked up the courage to make a move, Tendou showed up
You silently cursed your team’s awful timing
“sorry to interrupt, but if you’re done smooching our manager, we kinda need her back now”
Pretty sure you were redder then Tendou’s hair at this point, and Suga wasn’t any better
He couldn’t get you off of his damn mind for ages
so when he saw you in a diner, he couldn’t believe his luck
“hey, Y/n”
You looked up and sent him a soft smile “Hello Sugawara”
“If you’re not busy, mind if I join you?”
You two spent the next 2 hours talking about volleyball and other interests you both had.
When it was time to leave he walked you to your car, but he couldn’t let you go just yet
sweet boy brought your hand up to his mouth and kissed it. “I hope I can see you again Y/n. Maybe next time I can be a date?”
You agreed to his question and organised to meet him tomorrow for a date
Kageyama-
This was the worst moment in Kageyama’s life
His milk had gotten stuck in the vending machine
Before angry boy had time to smash the glass, the machine shook as a foot had connected with it
The milk fell but Kageyama’s eye were glued to the angel that stood in front of him
you sent him a sweet smile and ran to join your team
his eyes couldn’t leave you, well that was until Semi stood directly in front of you and sent a dirty scowl his way
Poor baby ran away so fast he forgot his milk
Half way through practice, you had gotten particularly thirsty and went back to the vending machine.
You noticed Kageyama’s stray milk and picked it up
Going over to where Karasuno was practicing, you saw him sitting on the bench, seemingly sulking
“Hello again Kageyama, I think you forgot this” You said while handing him the milk
Bby’s world lit up. He was in love with this Milk Deity. Yes it was that easy
The only problem was Kag’s didn’t know what the hecc a crush was, let alone how to ask one out
so he went to his mum
Yes, I’m talking about Suga
“Suga, I think I’m dying”
This causes Suga to stare at the setter with confusion
“Every time I see y/n my heart beings to race and I can’t breath. I also get sweaty. I think I’m allergic to them”
It took Suga s hot minuet to stop laughing at the fact Kageyama’s conclusion was he was allergic to you
“Kageyama, you have a crush on Y/n. You’re not allergic to them”
“A crush?” Poor baby had the most deadpanned expression you’ve ever seen as he took in the new information
It took him a whole week to process this, and another week to get your number, and another month to ask you out
“Y/n, turns out I have a crush on you. Date me.”
It was less of a question and more of a demand
Lucky for him, you had liked him since you first met, so you accepted quickly
you pulled him into a tight embrace and kissed his cheek
You killed him
Congratulations :)
Akaashi-
How the hell did you end up here? How the hell did this grown-ass man end up lost in the middle of your practice?
He said his name was Bokuto and that’s all he’ll say other then a string of what can only be described as sad owl noises
and now, you’re walking around campus hand-in-hand with him trying to find the Fukurodani team because they lost their damn captain
Walking around you heard someone call Bokuto and you literally saw the boys hair inflate along with his growing smile
“AKAASHIIIIII!!!!” he screamed next to you “LOOK I MADE A FRIEND”
yeah, as confusing as it was, you quickly had grown to like Bokuto
“Hello, thank you for looking after our captain, he get’s distracted and walks off” Akaashi said giving Bokuto an evil stare
“See you soon y/n” Bokuto waved as he walked away
you felt Akaashi’s eyes linger on you a little longer as he walked away
What Akaashi didn’t realize is that you’d walk into the gym with the rest of Shiratorizawa trailing behind you
“Y/N” Bokuto’s scream could be heard outside the gym as he bounded up to you and tackled you into a hug
Your laugh rang in Akaashi’s ears, it was angelic
His eyes raked over your laughing form when he noticed your smile and the way your eyes crinkled as you looked at the owl-like boy
He couldn’t stop the pang of jealousy, nor could he stop his body from pulling Bokuto off you and holding you protectively
He blushed when he realized what he’d done, and so had you
Mostly because you were currently wrapped in the hot setter’s muscles but I digress
His crush became more and more apparent to him as he watched you through out the game
Boy was so distracted even Bokuto noticed his lack of participation
“Akaashi, care to stop ogling at y/n and maybe PLAY THE DAMN GAME”
Bokuto’s scolding had reached your ears, causing a deep blush on your face which Akaashi had noticed
During the break of the game, Akaashi noticed Bokuto talking to you again which caused him to grab your hand and drag you out of the gym
“Akaashi? Is everything okay?”
Akaashi grabbed you and held you close
“I’m sorry, I can’t ignore how I feel when I see you talk to anyone else”
He kissed your forehead and basically begged to take you out on a date
Meanwhile you were literally deceased in his arms
You’ve had a crush on Akaashi for a while so this is your dream come true
Of course you agreed to date the setter
Would be a lit plot twist if you said no though....
Kenma-
“Hey Y/n?” Jin called your name, making you stop packing
Your team had just won a practice match against Nekoma and were getting ready for the next team
“Yeah Jin? What is it?”
“I think one of the kittens left this” Jin handed you a Blue PSP
Kitten was a nickname given to Nekoma from Shiratorizawa
You took it and excused yourself from the gym to go find Nekoma
You knew automatically who’s it was seen as the cute setter barley looked up from it
good job too or he’d probably see the amount you stare at him
It didn’t take much walking before you ran into a very flustered looking setter
“Hey, Kenma! I think you left this at practice” Try as you might, you can’t stop the blush forming on your face
And if you took your eyes off the god damn floor, you’d see that he was blushing too
“Thank you Y/n, I’m sorry for inconvenience you” muttered Kenma
You two just kinda stood there awkwardly
No-one wanted to leave because little did you know, gamer boi had a fat crush on you too
That was until his turkey looking friend and Tendou yelled at you both
“oh my god if one of you don’t confess we’ll do it for you”
You both shoot your respective team members a look that made them run away faster then they ever had
“uhm y/n, I’ve liked you for a while now but I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but will you do me the honor of going on a date with me?”
“of course I will Kenma! I’ve never wanted anything more”
Maybe you were a bit too eager to jump into his arms as you both fell on to the floor laughing
He grabbed your face and kissed you
meanwhile, you hadn’t realized both teams had gathered behind you both and where now cheering
Shiratorizawa couldn’t feel any part of their bodies the next day thanks to your harsh training

Girl Next Door
Daichi x y/n
This is unedited
“Hey babe! Who’s this?” You find your boyfriend, Daichi, talking to three girls in the parking lot “oh! This is Yui, we go to school together and she’s captain of the girls team. She brought a lucky charm for the team!” He shows you and you smile “that’s so nice of her!” You say and genuinely smile at the poor girl who obviously had a huge crush on Daichi. “Isn’t it tho! Oh sorry Yui! This is my girlfriend, y/n” you bow slightly “it’s nice to meet you!” One of her friends elbows her “oh!” She says and bows back “it’s nice to meet you too!” Daichi squeezes your hand “we have to get going now to the court. We’ll see you later Yui!” Daichi says before pulling you off with him. “Oooh Daichi you didn’t tell me she was basically in love with you! I feel bad” he groans “why do you feel bad? You didn’t do anything.” He asks “because I get to date you and she doesn’t, I know what she’s missing. I get to kiss you and touch you. I’m the lucky one. I hope she doesn’t hate me” he stops for a second and cups your cheeks “she doesn’t hate you. Trust me. I don’t think she’s capable of that feeling” he kisses you, just a peck which wasn’t even new but your stomach flooded with butterflies. He never ceased to give you butterflies even after a few months. You’re Daichis neighbor and you’ve known him since middle school, you went to a different high school though because the women’s volleyball team was more promising. You’ve always been close friends with him but the relationship didn’t take the next step until now as third years, after practicing with him in your backyard one evening he kissed you out of the blue, and you were addicted to those kisses now.
It was the final game against Shiratorizawa and it came down to game five. Whoever wins this is going to Tokyo. You’re standing from your seat, in the front row of the stands, you feel like your stomach is in your throat. You wouldn’t even be surprised if the stress and anxiety from this game turned your hair gray now. It’s 19-20 and we need one more point to win. “COME ON DAICHI COME ON KARASUNO!” You yell out trying to give them some of your energy. They all looked like they were in pain but now that Tsukishima is back we can take this! You don’t blink, you don’t breathe, not until the whistle. Not until the win is final. Then you scream in excitement and start to cry. Daichi, Suga, and Asahi are hugging and crying and when they pull away Daichi looks into your eyes and you laugh and blow him a kiss which he graciously catches and places on his lips before sending one back to you. You couldn’t wait to celebrate with him after the ceremony but for now you were jumping and celebrating with Yachi and Tanaka’s sister whose name you forgot but it’s been so long now that you can’t ask without it being weird. You just adopted calling her Big Sis because that’s what she felt like to you too. You lean over the side of the railing “Daichi! Sugawara! Asahi! You guys are amazing! Congratulations guys!” You yell down to them and they yell back thanks with tears still streaming down their faces, Asahi holds up the charm that Yui gave Daichi, you didn’t know when he gave it to Asahi but it didn’t matter. Asahi, Suga, and Daichi smile and yell a thank you to Yui for the charm. When the team huddles they’re right below you, you keep your eyes on Daichi and can’t stop smiling, he can’t stop looking up at you either not even listening to the Coach. The feeling in the air was so thick with excitement and happiness, the energy was seeping out of everyone who supported Karasuno. But your feelings ran deeper than them, you were in love with Daichi and you couldn’t help but realize that right now. You’ve always loved him, you loved how strong he was and how determined. How he was a natural leader and truly cares about those he leads. How he has always been there for you for as long as you could remember. You laugh and the happy tears come streaming down your face again. “I love Daichi” you whisper then laugh again “Y/n?! That’s so cute and amazing! I’m so happy for you!” Yachi says beside you and then hugs you “no wait Yachi I.. he.. he doesn’t know yet so don’t say anything please?” She laughs “okay your secret is safe with me!” She pretends to lock her licks and toss the key away “thank you Yachi” you laugh and turn your attention back to the ceremony.
After the ceremony you make your way through the crowds down to where the team with exit the gym, when you see Daichi you laugh and start to run, he hears your cute laugh and turns smiling. You run into his arms outstretched in a tight hug. “I am so proud of you baby” you whisper in his ear and kiss his cheek. Taking his hand you continue to the parking lot with the team, but you guys are a few steps behind so you can have a little bit of your own time. “How are you feeling?” You ask him and squeeze his hand “I feel amazing. Like all my dreams are coming true. We just beat the unbeatable team, all the hard works paying off, and the cherry on top is you.” He squeezes your hand and you blush “my sweet girl. I’ve been in love with you for my whole life it seems. And now you’re mine. Holding my hand and celebrating this victory with me. I’m so excited for the future!” He’s so handsome and determined, you blush when he says he loves you. He’s never said it out loud but you think you’ve always known. “Daichi I meant like your body, you really pushed yourself out there all five games. Are you okay?” You laugh and point out how he and the rest of the team are walking, their legs like jello. He grunts “oh. Yeah. I’m dead.” You laugh and turn his face towards you giving him a quick kiss while walking “I love you Daichi” you whisper and look to the ground a little embarrassed and shy “I love everything about you. I.. I always have. It just took me a while to connect the dots. For so many reasons I could probably fill up an entire book. I’m so excited to be on this journey with you” he squeezes your hand “ride back on the bus with us. I’m sure Coach won’t mind. Then we can talk more on the bus and walk home tigether. Plus we’re probably gonna get some food too and I don’t want any more time away from you, sweetheart” you nod “that sounds amazing” He’s so tired you can see it in his eyes. The rest of the night is amazing, you eat food and celebrate with the team, it’s such a wonderful feeling being there with them. Being there with Daichi. Holding his hand or feeling his hand rest on your thigh under the table. You’re so excited for the future knowing that Daichi will always be in it with you.

Valentine’s Day Special: Day 4
Giri. This is what they call ‘obligatory chocolate’ which is for family, classmates, clubs, co-workers, etc.
Honmei. This translates to ‘true love chocolates’ which you give to your s/o whether you simply have feelings for them or if you’re even married. I guess it’s everyone’s dream to get honmei chocolate on Valentine’s day.
Ushijima Ushiwaka Wakatoshi
HE’S JUST A BIG BABY
You’ve been dating him for quite a while now and this upcoming Valentine’s Day is your first Valentine’s day as a couple
Honestly, I think that Ushiwaka wouldn’t even know when Valentine’s day is considering how much of a dork he is
You make him chocolate anyway, knowing that he’ll like it.
“TOSHIIII!” you scream as you run into the gym on Valentine’s day. Handmade chocolate, ready in hand.
He was in mid-spike and for the first time ever, he half stumbled to the floor.
“(Y/n)??“
“O-oh, I’m so sorry for interrupting...“ you say a little embarrassed. “I’ll come back later...“
“No, what is it, (Y/n),“ your boyfriend urges you to continue
“No, no, please finish your practice first, I’ll wait for you to finish,“
The whole team, and I mean EVERY MEMBER OF SHIRATORIZAWA, realizes that you just want to give him chocolate by now.
“No, it’s fine, wait did you want to give me something?“ he asks
You sigh and give up. “Um, Happy Valentine’s Day!” you say and hold the chocolate out
The stoic third-year turns a little blushy for a few seconds and bends down to kiss you in front of all 100+ team members.
“TOSHI.“
Terushima
You have been dating him for quite a while now and you had brought the chocolate you spent so long making, only to see many other girls also giving him chocolate. You sigh and walk up to him like usual. It’s nothing new, this happens every year.
Until you see a random girl kiss him on the cheek.
Now, THAT doesn't happen every year.
Okay you’ve finally lost it
You walk right past him like he wasn’t there and he starts to run after you
“(Y/n)! Hey, (Y/n)! I’m sorry, I didn’t think that she would do that...“
“Oh, is that so?“ you say sarcastically. Honestly, you were only mad for the first few minutes but you found it adorable how worried he was about upsetting you on Valentine’s day.
You don’t see him for the whole afternoon and you sincerely wonder where he is.
He suddenly appears at the end of the day, holding a bouquet of red roses.
“(Y/nnnn), please don’t be mad at meeee,“ he says.
You gasp, you never thought he would go that far
“I’m sorry Yuuji, I wasn’t that mad, to begin with. But thank you so much, that makes me so happy,“ you say with a light blush on your cheeks
He’s also a blushing uwu because you’re just too cute
Tendou
All-day, all month really, all he had dreamt of was receiving chocolate from you. He knew that it was impossible, that there was no way that he could get chocolate from you and definitely not honmei chocolate
You thought that there was no way he even knew who you were. you were at all their matches though, always watching from afar. Quietly cheering whenever the genius made a perfect block which is basically every single time
With Valentine’s day coming up, you decided to start by giving him some chocolate. For him to get to know you.
“Goshiki, do you think he’ll accept it?“ you ask the fellow first-year frantically
“Yeah, of course! But honestly, I think you should just confess already. We’re first-years and he’s a third-year. You don’t have much time left.“
You think over every single one of your life choices and come to the conclusion that you were going to confess.
So you wait for practice to finish and walk up to him while everyone was cleaning up.
“(L/n)-chan?“ he asks you, looking confused.
“You, you know my name?“ you ask, surprised. He knows you.
“Of course,“ he says. “Are you looking for someone?”
“Um, yes, well no, well, I’ve already found them...“
“Oh, okay.“ he says. He sees the box of chocolates behind your back and half self-destructs.
You stand there awkwardly for a good few seconds, at a loss for words.
He misunderstands and says. “Oh, I’ll get out of the way then... I’m sure they’ll like your chocolate,” and points behind your back.
“No, uh, please don’t go!“ you say frantically. “Uh, this is for you. I’ve liked you for quite a while now and so this is honmei,” you hold out the chocolate.
He’s not responding from how surprised he is.
He’s not taking the chocolate and you’re starting to misunderstand
“Ah, actually, I’m sorry, um, you don’t have to take the chocolate. I don’t even know if you’re already in a relationship, I’m sorry.“ you say to the ground, tears welling up
“(Y/n)-chan, I love you so much,“
“What...?“ you ask.
“I love you,“
“M-me?“
“Yes, you. Who else is there?”
He quickly takes hold of your hand and interlaces his fingers with yours before lightly kissing you your hand.
“(Y/n), please go out with me,“
“I would love to,“ you say almost crying.

Hey! Can I get a Kuroo x reader where the she's from a different prefecture and school and it's valentine's day? Her friends tease her for not having a date on thag day. Kuroo surprises her by showing up during their lunch with flowers and chocolates. They act all sweet during lunch. Once back in the class, the class asks her a lot of questions about Kuroo. Then Kuroo had to wait for the end of the day to take her out. Just fluff thanks!
My sweet Valentine
Kuroo Tetsurou

_________________________________________
You and Hayato, the Shiratorizawa's libero were going to the canteen to eat lunch and were "talking" about Valentine's day.
He was teasing you because you had no one to spend that day with, but then someone gave you a rose.
You looked at the guy, confused, it was Goshiki.
"What..."
But then another one, and it was from Shirabu who was obviously pissed and embarrassed.
"What's happening?"
You whispered, looking at the friend you were walking with, but he shrugged his shoulders, looking at you like he didn't know anything about the flowers you were receiving.
The most surprising one was the next one, from Ushijima.
"I have been told to give this to you when I had the chance"
He said, leaving you even more confused, the you arrived to the canteen with a beautiful bouquet of red roses.
Red.
Roses.
You stopped right at the entrance of the canteen, where Hayato gave you the last rose, smirking at you before reaching his team mates, leaving you all by yourself.
"First of all. What the fuck his happening."
You murmured, looking around for some clue, but then, from behind, someone put a red piece of paper in your hands, with a drawing of a kitten on it.
You turned, finally understanding what was actually happening and with tears in your eyes.
He didn't even wish you a happy Valentine's day that morning, not even a message and that was because he wanted to surprise you by coming to your school.
You jumped on him, with your arms around his neck, still holding the roses and your legs around his hips, pressing your face on his neck, trying not to cry in front of everyone.
He was the only one without a uniform but with normal clothes, so it was pretty obvious he was not a student there, in Shiratorizawa.
You didn't care about the people looking at you, so you kissed him on the lips, so happy to finally see him after so long.
Last time you saw him was two months before, during the Christmas holidays in Tokyo, because you somehow convinced your parents to spend the holidays in the capital city.
Of course just to see him.
And now he is here, alone, just for you.
"Happy Valentine's day, babe"
He whispers to your ear, before you go off his arms, but still hugging him and looking into his eyes.
"Tetsurō! You are supposed to be at school right now! What are you doing here?"
You said, trying not to sob, because you were crying, of course.
"I missed you so much... I needed to see you and to hug you and...i just missed you a lot, (y/n), it's so hard not to see you everyday as we did during Christmas time."
You bit your bottom lip, then hugged him again, resting your face on his chest.
"I love you..."
You said.
And it was the first time you said it since the two of you became a couple.
Now he is the one who's giving his best not to cry.
"I love you too..."
He leaved a kiss on your forehead, then took your free hand, Hayato would have covered your absence from the afternoon lessons by telling the teachers you were sick and resting in your bedroom if you didn't come back in time
The two of you then sneaked out of the building, he had booked a table into a restaurant, so he could eat lunch with you.
"What have you told to the coach? Why did he let you skip practice? Because I know you have practice today"
You said.
You just couldn't believe he was actually right there for you, on valentine's day.
It almost felt like an amazing, magical, beautiful dream.
"I cried. Telling him how much I missed you and Yaku kicked me out of the gym because he couldn't stand me anymore."
He answered with nonchalance, looking at you with a smile.
He then bended to kiss you on the lips, caressing your cheek.
"It's just for lunch, unfortunately, so let's make it the best lunch ever, alright?"
He then said, making you smile even more, while the two of you entered the restaurant.
A waiter walked you to the table Kuroo had booked some days before, helping you sit like a true gentlemen.
He was just too amazing and you always struggled trying to understand how the hell you deserved someone like him.
But then you realized something.
"Hayato! That bastard knew everything!"
You said, in shock while looking at your boyfriend, then laughed.
How could you not manage to understand the plan?
There were a lot of clues!
"Don't think about it, you'll kick his ass as soon as I bring you back to school. Think about us now and let's just be happy okay?"
You nodded and smiled at him again, you were just so happy to have him there with you, even if it was just for a few hours.
You held hands on the table the whole time while chatting and eating too, he was telling you about practice, about his friends and you were telling him about how hard it is to be Shiratorizawa volleyball team's manager, expecially when someone spikes so hard that when the ball bounces you everytime risk to get a broken nose.
"A few weeks ago Goshiki was so hyped that when he spiked, the ball landed right on my foot. You have no idea how much that hurt."
The two of you laughed a lot during those hours but, unfortunately that lunch came to end and he had to bring you back to school.
When you left the restaurant, you sighed and hugged him as much tight as you could.
You didn't want him to leave.
"We have thirty minutes left, let's enjoy them, alright?"
He kisses you on the lips, again, while caressing your cheeks, than moving his hands on your waist just so he could hold you even more close to his body.
That kiss was amazing, better than the others.
It was full with emotions like love and happiness, joyful because the two of you were close again.
You didn't even notice that for the whole time he had a bag with him, the one he uses for his practice stuff.
You didn't notice until you came back to class, where all of your friends were waiting for you to tell how the date was, not knowing that the best part was yet to come.
The real surprise was for the evening because he was going to stay for the whole weekend and your parents had organized everything with him.
It was going to be an awesome weekend.

OiSuga Week Day 1 - aug 20th: after school / role swap
Convince Me (part 1)
When Oikawa suddenly appears at Karasuno after school to ask Sugawara out, the latter has one condition: Oikawa has to convince him of the sincerity of his feelings.
Read on AO3 or down below (Part 2 | Part 3)
“So because of a dispute you had with your ace, you came all over to Karasuno?” Sugawara asks, standing in the hallway connecting the gym to the school facilities.
On the surface he’s infuriated – deep down however he enjoys the panicked expression that spreads across Oikawa’s face. He could never beat the Grand King one-on-one, not in a face-off between setters. But standing outside the gym in the chilly late November afternoon, as two high school kids, Sugawara has the advantage, even if Oikawa is half a head taller. He had his fair share of dealing with troublesome idiots to master his strict, calculating voice that could render Asahi meek and Kageyama docile.
An off-court Oikawa Tooru, he could eat for breakfast.
“You could sum it up like this too, but…” Oikawa starts, losing his drive the moment his eyes meet with Sugawara’s.
“You’re asking me out in order to save face in front of your team, am I right?” Sugawara presses more, a victorious little grin threatening his composed act in the corner of his lips treacherously. “Let me ask you one thing, Oikawa. What do I seem to you?”
Oikawa winces, giving out an ever subtle squealing sound as he searches for reasons to save his argument. From the way he bites his lip in frustration, it is clear that he has realized just how arrogant his initial approach was. He walked in enemy territory like a king, haughtily asking for the audience of the setter of a rival team, only to claim that he was about to take Sugawara out on a date, as Iwaizumi would simply not believe that he had interest in Mr. Refreshing…
It was certainly a terrible idea, but somehow Oikawa left all of his tact back at Aoba Jousai this afternoon.
“I’m asking you out on a date,” he says, hands motioning vaguely between them.
“And? What’s in it for me?” Sugawara asks back sharply. “I get it you came up with some blatant lies in front of your team and now you need to save face, but why would I go along with your plan?”
“It’s not to save face,” Oikawa rebuts, walking up close to Sugawara. “I want for us to date for real.”
“Please don’t expect me to buy your story about your little interest in me. If you were really liking me somehow, you wouldn’t have started your confession with talking about that ace of yours.”
“True, okay, I give in,” Oikawa raises his hand in surrender. “Indeed, I’m only here because my team taunted me about how much of a chicken I’ve become since my last girlfriend dumped me. But!” he raises his voice. “It’s also true that I like you, Mr. Refreshing. And I’m not a coward, I just wanted to make sure that I’m not making a fool out of myself, after all you might have something going on with that pretty manager of yours…”
“Shimizu?” Sugawara asks, lifting a brow in surprise.
“I mean, she was holding your hand during the Shiratorizawa match and all,” Oikawa adds bashfully, and it’s not the November cold that tints his ears red as he continues. “I watched the match, you know, and I’ve been thoroughly impressed by your play in the fifth set.”
“Thanks,” Sugawara deadpans. He himself is not sure whether to smack Oikawa back to normalcy, or to pinch his own cheeks to check whether he’s dreaming. The Oikawa in front of him seems strange, if not surreal. Not that he would not enjoy this if it was a dream, he would even tease the Dream-Oikawa to see how far his subconscious dares to go…
But if this is reality, he is quite unsure how to proceed.
“I mean it!” Oikawa grabs his hands at this point, accidentally scratching Sugawara’s wrists along the way. The pain, though negligible, is real.
“Is that so?” Sugawara asks, shimmying out of the touch.
“Yeah,” Oikawa replies dumbly, hands frozen mid-air. “I find you interesting. Intriguing even.”
“And you think that’s enough to hop on a bus and come here, demanding a date from me just because your friends were teasing you a little?”
Ruthless, Sugawara is, but it wouldn’t be the first time someone pranked him, and he is not willing to believe in Oikawa’s words just yet; not when he remembers still so clear how dejected he got when Yoshida from the soccer club revealed that he only asked him out on a date to gain advantage over the volleyball club in the sports festival team relay.
Plus, he didn’t even particularly fancy Yoshida.
Not quite how he fancies Oikawa anyway.
It’s not only his pride, but his heart at stake. He’s not willing to give in to this surreal scene, not when it’s not a dream he could rewrite as many times as he wanted.
Not when the boy he has a crush on stands in front of him with a forlorn, lost expression, with his idiotic cowlicks framing his stupid pretty face.
“I’m sorry,” Oikawa says then, bowing deeply.
It’s the third time he manages to surprise Sugawara this day – starting with his first appearance, followed by his sudden confession, and now he bows so deep Sugawara could kick him in the face with his knee.
For a split second he actually considers it.
Then Oikawa opens his mouth again.
“Please, allow me to start again from the beginning.”
It’s not even the thing he says, or the tone he says it… it’s that vibrant red that started off his ears and now creeps down his neck. It’s adorable and Sugawara is weak.
“Alright,” he says, pulling his shoulders up in an exaggerated shrug. “But don’t think I will forget about how arrogant you were.”
Oikawa, still bowing, tilts his head, glancing up from between his fringe. His eyes glimmer with something akin joy, challenge, hope.
Sugawara needs to harden his defenses not to fall for the bastard on spot.
“Sugawara Koushi,” Oikawa starts, “I’ve taken a liking to you. Would you go out with me?”
“Not necessarily,” Sugawara squints. “I mean, would you believe if you were the average guy, and suddenly got confessed to by Oikawa Tooru?”
“I can hardly imagine confessing to myself,” Oikawa complains, inciting a hearty laugh from Sugawara.
“Even though you seem to love yourself more than anyone else…”
“I tend to have a misleading attitude,” he admits, motioning vaguely around himself. “I mean, yes, that’s me too, but it’s more like… my social persona? And then there’s me, failing big time in this confession now…”
“Indeed,” Sugawara nods, circling Oikawa with lazy steps, until he is backed against the corridor wall. Sugawara crosses his arms, tilting his head back just so to look straight into the eyes of the superstar setter. Oikawa gulps, looking amply bewildered. “You’re not very convincing.”
“Ugh,” Oikawa groans, scratching the wall beside him. He looks like some wild animal, cornered, eyes filled with something dangerous.
Oikawa Tooru, a boy childish enough to make a tug of war out of a simple situation where he reached for a ball at the same time as his fated kouhai… he’s not the one to give up or give in easily, certainly not when on the court, but possibly off court either. And Sugawara feels fired up by the shine in his eyes, fueled to go a bit further, provoke him a little more.
“Look, you don’t have to believe in me,” Oikawa starts.
“But I want to,” Sugawara cuts in. Hit it until it breaks, he remembers, smile spreading slowly across his face. “I want to believe you, Oikawa. It’s you who’s not trying very hard at making me believe. What gave you the impression that I will go along with your little plan, if you yourself didn’t have the resolve to try to convince me?”
“I…” Oikawa starts, embarrassment flushing across his face. “I’m not saying that I’m head over heels in love with you or anything. I just say that I find you to be a really interesting guy, and I would like to get to know you better…”
“But your feelings are wishy-washy, aren’t they?” Sugawara asks, inching closer, until his elbows dig into the sides of Oikawa. “You won’t get all heartbroken if I reject you now, will you?”
“Look,” Oikawa replies, this time clearly defensive, pushing his arms just against the elbows of Sugawara. His eyes narrow, his pretty face scrunches, tiny wrinkles appear across his nose and Sugawara makes a mental note to himself that they are adorable. “You caught my eye, but precisely because I couldn’t take my eyes off of you, I’ve seen your manager holding your hand, and because you could be in a relationship, I was trying my best to refrain from falling in love.”
“Respectable self-control,” Sugawara mocks him.
“So. Are you?”
“Am I what?”
“In a relationship.”
“With Shimizu?”
“With anyone!” Oikawa snaps, and when he catches Sugawara’s smile, he adds: “God, you’re infuriating!”
“Thanks,” Sugawara smirks. “And no. I’m not in a relationship.”
“Good.”
“Is it?”
“Oh, shut up.”
“No, I’m really interested now. Thanks to the teasing of your friends you are here after all, so why don’t you tell me how your feelings would change after getting to know that I’m sexy free and single?”
Sugawara somewhat expects Oikawa to recoil or at least cringe at the shady wink accompanies to his words – but never in his wildest dreams would’ve he fantasized about Oikawa visibly deflating and melting into the wall with a soft sigh, as he does in real life upon seeing that awkward wink of Sugawara’s.
“You’re so not cute,” Oikawa chuckles, eyes shining as he glances at Sugawara. “Dork,” he adds adoringly, and Sugawara’s defenses crumble as if they were thoroughly undermined.
“I thought I was refreshing?” he asks, tone mocking but heart in his throat, trying hard to regain his inner composure.
Oikawa replies with a laugh, lifting his hand to Sugawara’s face and brushing over his birth mark.
“Such a pretty dork,” he repeats. “I really like you.”
Sugawara takes a sharp inhale, unfolding his arms to shoo away Oikawa’s hand from his face.
He might have found Oikawa’s serving form beautiful. He might have even found his stupidly pretty face charming.
But gosh, no one could prepare him for a confession like this.
“Yeah. Great,” Sugawara says, blinking away his awe. “Prove it.”
“Will you go out with me then?” Oikawa asks with a renewed fire in his eyes that sends chills down Sugawara’s spine, chills that are not quite unpleasant.
“If you convince me.”
“I will.”

Second Chance- Chapter 1
Summary- It's tough losing your best friend just months before your wedding, especially when he was supposed to be your best man. Tendou would have never guessed, he would have to live through this scenario. Learning how to live on, as Semi would have told him to. But one rainy evening, a newborn is left at his and his husband's doorstep.
And it will change their lives forever.
Warning- Major Character Death
Pairing- Ushijima Wakatoshi x Tenou Satori (UshiTen)
AU- Reincarnation
Word count- 3K
Don’t blame me if you cry ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
AO3
Tendou and Ushijima had been together for a long time, getting close to six years with the end of October. They became a couple when they and the rest of the third years retired from the volleyball club, passing on the torch to the new team (and after doing those 100 jump serves). Their friends saw it coming and were all smiles when the couple was spotted holding hands together.
At the beginning of April, just five months after getting together, a new chapter had begun for them. For Ushijima, it was attending the university on a full volleyball scholarship (with the interest in majoring in business). For Tendou, university...wasn’t in his plans. Instead, an apprenticeship with a mangaka was. When the middle blocker brought it up to the wing spiker, Ushijima encouraged him to take it.
“This could be a once in a lifetime opportunity, Satori. Take it. This is your dream and I will one hundred percent support that dream.” Ushijima stated. Not many people would have supported this idea, thinking it was a waste of time. Saying just go to university and get a decent paying job. Do not take the risk.
A lot of people told Tendou that.
Tendou didn’t listen to those people and took it. Ushijima stood by him and became his biggest supporter. This apprenticeship meant Tendou would have to give up a lot of things (such as a social life) and was going to be spending long hours working with the mangaka. But that didn’t matter to the wing spiker, as long as Tendou was happy, that was all that mattered. So Ushijima wouldn’t question why there was ink on Tendou’s face or pencil lead smudged on his hands; instead he would clean them off and ask how his day had went.
Not only was Ushijima supporting Tendou’s dream; but Tendou was also supporting Ushijima’s dream, going professional. The redhead became not only Ushijima’s biggest supporter, but his cheerleader. Cheering for him as loud as he possibly could at every single game Tendou was able to attend. It also meant long training days and not getting back to their shared apartment until seven or even eight that evening. All the university’s games were not always home and Ushijima would be gone from Friday afternoon until Monday morning (of course, this depended on what university they were going to).
October 29th, their anniversary. Six years, it had gone by so fast. It only felt like yesterday when they had kissed after confessing at eighteen years old. Just five months away from high school graduation and about to start a new part of their life, a new journey they started together.
December 16th, a day Tendou didn’t see coming. Japan made it into the world championship, playing against Team Italy. Ushijima showed Italy why his nickname (Super Ace) had stuck around with him all these years. And introduced to them a new nickname they’ve never heard before.
“MIRACLE BOY! WAKATOSHI!” Tendou hollowered at the top of his lungs with a crowd of fans surrounding him, cheering for a point for Japan. Ushijima smirked and looked at an Italian wing spiker, who stood across from him and looked confused.
“Miracle Boy?” He asked, raising eyebrow.
“That would be me.” Ushijima responded, straightening up and looking at the player, who just looked even more confused.
But that confused expression vanished when Japan won the world championship, everyone cheering as the team ran around the court in excitement and hugging one another. Tears of joy in their eyes, they had won! They had won the volleyball world championship, JAPAN did! Tendou, felt so incredibly proud of the Japan team, but also Ushijima. As the press surrounded the team and coaches, Tendou watched as the wing spiker broke away from the chaos and jogged over to the Japan cheering section.
“Satori! Come down here!” Ushijima called out, holding his arms out to the former middle blocker.
What? Ushijima wanted him to come down onto the court? Why? Well he might as well find out, jumping from the stand and being caught by the wing spiker. Before Tendou could ask a question, the wing spiker bent down on one knee and taking Tendou’s hand into his.
“Satori, would you marry me?”
Let’s just say, the cameras caught the moment Tendou screamed yes at the top of his lungs and tackled Ushijima to the ground. Ushijima later confirming online that yes, he proposed to his boyfriend of six years and would be getting married.
Their engagement was the trending tweet the next morning.
The moment they got back to Japan, friends and family members were calling and texting them congratulations on their engagement. Such an exciting time and a time to celebrate. The old Shiratorizawa team threw a small party for their friends at a restaurant to celebrate their engagement. In the middle of celebrating though, Tendou nudged Semi to follow him outside the party room. Although the former setter was confused, he still followed Tendou to the outdoor patio of the restaurant.
“Eita, I want you to be my best man when Wakatoshi and I get married.” Tendou said right away, not letting Semi even ask why they had come out. At first, the former setter wasn’t able to answer, having being stunned into silence. He hadn’t expected to be suddenly confronted with this kind of question.
“Satori...of course!” Semi answered with a big smile crossing his face. Tendou gasped and hugged him tight.
“Thank you, Eita-kun! It really means the world to me.”
“Satori, you’re my best friend. It’d be an honor to stand with you on your big day.” Semi responded, hugging his best friend back.
Wedding planning started and a date was picked.
October 25th
June meant there were only four months left until the wedding and there was still plenty of stuff left to plan. Neither Tendou nor Ushijima had not known how much planning would go into a small ceremony for late October. Geez, so much to book ahead of time and so many decisions to be made. Thankfully, their friends and family were helping them plan this wedding and making it much easier to make it happen.
Or otherwise, they would probably not get anywhere close to finishing on time.
It was a Tuesday afternoon and Tendou was currently sketching out the next chapter of his manga; while he waited for a call from Semi. Semi had been a big help during this planning process and Tendou couldn’t have been more grateful for his best friend’s help. The call he was waiting for is in regards to their wedding suits, his and Semi’s suits. The two best friends opted to have matching suits and Semi knew a tailor, who could possibly make them.
Tendou just needed to know how much it would be for their suits and when they could come in together to get measured. So while he waited, he went on with his day and that meant finishing up the sketch. Also he waited for Ushijima to return home from training (but that was still about three hours away).
Before he knew it, the former middle blocker zoned everything out for the next two hours. Focusing on his chapter and aiming to have it finished and ready to be inked the next day. That was until his phone began to ring.
“Oh that must be SemiSemi!” Tendou picked his phone, but noticed the caller ID.
DOCTOR REON
With a raised eyebrow, Tendou answered.
“Helllllo?”
“Sa...Satori.” Came the broken voice of Reon. Was...was he crying? It sounded like the former wing spiker was crying, he could hear sobs coming from the other end of the phone. What in the world was going on?
“Reon? What’s wrong? Hey come on bud, take a deep breath and calm down.” Reon was a man that wasn’t afraid to show his emotions, but with his new responsibility of being a doctor, he had been getting better of hiding them when wanted. But why was he calling Tendou? Reon usually called Yamagata if he was upset about something and by the sounds of it, he was an emotional mess. Tendou swallowed before asking another question.
“Did...did you lose another patient?”
“S-Satori.” But Reon didn’t say anything else after that as another sob took over him. Something...something didn’t seem right and Tendou didn’t like the feeling settling down in his stomach.
“Ohira-san, I’m sorry.” Tendou heard someone say, maybe a nurse? “I know this call is tough to make, but he has a right to know.”
“I know, I know.” Reon responded, taking a deep breath. “I never...I never thought I’d have to make this call.”
Reon’s voice sounded so...so sad. Tendou wished he had a second phone so he could quickly text Ushijima to make sure he was alright. Hearing his friend take a deep breath, Tendou prepared himself for whatever the doctor is about to tell him.
“Satori, I’m...I’m so sorry.” Reon finally said.
“...Reon, you’re scaring me. Whose hurt? Is Wakatoshi-”
“No, Wakatoshi didn’t come in. Satori...it’s Eita.” Reon cut off.
“SemiSemi? Is he okay? What happened?” Reon didn’t respond for a moment, taking a deep breath and slowly letting it out.
“Eita was in a serious car accident and he-he...he didn’t make it through the surgery.” Reon finally said and he broke down, his phone falling into his lap as he embraced the person next to him.
Tendou sat there, eyes blinking as the information processed in his mind. Semi, his best friend, his best man, had been in a car accident. A car accident that was serious enough to send him to the hospital and his injuries had required surgery. A surgery he didn’t make it through…
It finally clicked and Tendou’s eyes widened.
“N-no. No, that’s not right.” He managed to get out. “No! Reon! Don’t play around with me!”
This couldn’t be true. This couldn’t be true! His best friend couldn’t be...couldn’t be dead. Reon picked up his phone and sniffed, whipping his eyes.
“I wish I was lying, I really wish.” His voice cracked. “I really wish, Satori.”
The phone dropped from Tendou’s hand as tears began to stream down his face. He tried to stand up, but only crumbled to the floor. He sobbed and sobbed as he curled himself into a ball, not noticing Reon hanging up. His best friend, his best man was gone.
“SATORI?!” Ushijima’s voice called out not even ten minutes after receiving the bad news.
Reon had called and informed Ushijima of the bad news and said he needed to get home to check up on Tendou. The wing spiker rushed into their apartment and found his fiancé on the floor in a fetal position. An emotional mess. A person who had just lost one of the most important people in his life. Ushijima looked at him, his own eyes watering as he watched Tendou look up and slowly sit up. Tendou’s sclerae were the same color as his irises, red, from all the crying he had been doing.
“‘T-Toshi.” He managed to get up, but his sobbing took over.
Ushijima didn’t say a word, but sat down on the floor and embraced him. Tendou broke down in Ushijima’s shoulder as the wing spiker’s own tears started to fall. They held each other for dear life, not wanting to let the other go and...something happening to them. They didn’t move from the floor until that evening, but even in bed, they didn’t let each other go.
They didn’t expect to return to Miyagi to say goodbye to their friend. But then again, nobody expected to return home to say goodbye to someone as young as Semi was. He had only been twenty-four. He had his whole life ahead of him, but it was cut short thanks to a man’s idiotic decision to drink and drive.
That man was currently awaiting trial.
The old Shiratorizawa team all met up at Ushijima’s childhood home to attend both the wake and funeral together. Even Coach Washijou and Saitou Akira went with the team. Because of the busy schedules, the next time the whole team was supposed to meet was in October. During Tendou and Ushijima’s wedding on the 25th. But here they were, meeting up a whole four months early to say goodbye instead of celebrating.
Finding Semi’s family was heartbreaking, especially seeing his Grandmother not being her typically bubbly, loud self. Instead, they saw a heartbroken woman, grieving over the death of her beloved Grandson.
“Semi-san,” Washijou started, bowing to the family. “We are deeply sorry for your loss and we send our condolences.”
Shiratorizawa also bowed.
“Thank you for coming, Washijou-san.” Semi’s Mother, Koi, thanked with a small smile. Semi had had his Mother’s sharp brown eyes. “We appreciate it.”
“Of course. He was a fine young man I got to know over his three years at Shiratorizawa.” Washijou nodded.
“Again, we appreciate you all for coming.” Semi’s Father, Yoshino, nodded with a sad smile. Yoshino had the same blonde ash color Semi had. Washijo nodded and placed a hand on the Grandmother’s shoulder.
“He’s up there with your husband. He’s in good hands.” Mentioning Semi’s Grandfather, who he had never gotten to meet as he had passed away just a few years before Semi was born.
Tendou watched as she put her hand on top of the man’s hand and nodded. She didn’t say anything, Tendou didn’t blame her. He’d probably- not probably, he knew he would start to cry if he was in her spot. Semi meant everything to her and she meant everything to him. As Washijou stepped aside, the rest of the team gave their condolences before moving onto where the wake would be happening.
The next evening after the funeral, guests gathered at the Semi home to enjoy food that had been brought by Koi and Yoshino’s co-workers. People talking and laughing about everything, Tendou couldn’t believe there were people laughing, after they had just said goodbye to someone. But he just figured it was better to start moving on then just moping around. Shiratorizawa stayed together, eating and talking on the stairs of Semi’s childhood home. Looking at all the pictures of when their friend was a baby until now. They all told stories about their days at Shiratorizawa and faovirte memories they had with Semi.
Tendou had to get up, he needed fresh air. No one stopped him, everyone knew he was taking this the hardest. He walked into the backyard to find only one person outside and that was Semi’s Grandmother sitting on the swing. She looked up when the door opened and saw Tendou, who was going to leave, but she patted the seat right next to her. She wanted him to join her.
“Hey Grandma,” Tendou greeted her as he sat next to her and laid his hands on top of hers. “How are you holding up?”
“Oh I’ve been trying, sweetie. I’ve been trying, but it hasn’t been easy.” She sighed and looked up at him, removing one of her hands from his grip and touching his cheek. “How have you been holding up, dear? I’ve been worried about you.”
“I’ve been the same. I keep thinking this is some nightmare that doesn’t want to end and I’ll wake up and Eita is blowing my phone up, telling me to wake up.” He chuckled at that last part, wishful thinking that he knew was never going to happen.
“I’ve been thinking about you and the others.” Grandma Semi, as everyone called her, treated the whole team like her own Grandchildren. Tendou knew she was worrying about them after this happened, that’s just how she had always been. Tendou nodded and they didn’t say anything for a few minutes before he spoke up again.
“Grandma I don’t think I can do it.” Tendou said, tears spilling over. “I can’t get married without my best friend by my side. Grandma I just can’t! I need Eita by my side.”
“Satori, look at me.” Grandma Semi said, grabbing Tendou’s chin and making him look at her. The former middle blocker moved to looked at her, his tears falling onto her hands. Although her eyes were are full of sadness and also watering up, she smiled at him.
“Eita wouldn’t want you to cancel the wedding because he wasn’t there. He would have been upset and angry that you threw away all the money you put towards the wedding and ended up cancelling because of him. Eita would have wanted you to marry Wakatoshi no matter what and honey, I know it’s hard. I really do know it’s hard, but you have to move on. And moving on means getting married in October.” Grandma Semi sniffed, tears falling now.
“I know he would have, but he’s been my best friend since we were first years and...he’s gone. He’s been there for everything.”
“Losing someone close to you is hard and moving on is just as hard. But listen to me Satori, as long as you never forget him, he’ll always be with you. He’ll be here,” She pointed to his head. “And here.” And to his heart.
“And you bet your bottom dollar he’ll be standing next to you on your wedding day. But in spirit. Smiling at you as you say ‘I do’ to Wakatoshi.” Grandma Semi smiled. Semi had had the same smile as his Grandmother and it gave Tendou some comfort. He leaned forward and leaned against her forehead, nodding.
“Wakatoshi and I already talked about it, we’re going to have an empty seat with his picture sitting in it.” Tendou told her, a smiling cracking for the first time this whole week.
“What a wonderful idea.”
Four months later, October 25th arrived and the wedding went on as scheduled.
Like he told Grandma Semi (who also attended with Koi and Yoshino), there was an empty seat with Semi’s picture in it. Tendou didn’t ask anyone else to stand for him and so, Ushijima didn’t have anyone stand with him. To him, it wasn’t fair that Ushijima’s best man (who happened to be Reon), would stand with him when Tendou didn’t have anyone standing with him. So, no one stood with them.
During the reception, Tendou took a quick breather outside and looked up at the stars. The night sky looked gorgeous with the glowing moon and twinkling stars and not a single cloud to cover it’s beauty. He smiled and leaned against the railing as he looked at the stars.
“I got married, SemiSemi. I wish you were by my side, but I know you were. I just couldn’t see you. I know you’re watching us and dancing with your Grandpa up there.” Tendou chuckled. “You party animals. I’ll see you later on, Wakatoshi is going to be wondering where I am so I better go back instead.” Tendou smiled up to the stars, before he turned around to head back inside.
But then, something stopped him and made him turn around. Obviously, no one else was with him. So...why did he feel like there was someone next to him? Like someone had been there the whole time?
“Oi Satori! It’s time to cut the cake.” Yamagata called out as he poked his head outside.
“Coming!” Tendou sing songed as he followed the former libero back into the reception. He looked behind himself one more time to make sure he wasn’t going crazy. Seeing it had only been him, he went back inside.
“LET’S CUT THE CAKE!”
