CULE:

(Saoirse) 20: If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so? Re: platonic and romantic love, it's not too different for them! I don't think they see much of a distinction -- for them, relationships are very cyclical, so it's more about the point in the cycle the relationship is in (growing & then fading closeness/intimacy) than other distinctions. For example, she considers Victor a friend, but has a deep, intimate dynamic with him that involves sex. It's more about what the other party wants to classify the relationship as; if they had it her way, she wouldn't label them at all.

(Saoirse) D: Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? Nope! Saoirse went through a big change when I was first settling on character designs. They've always been goth, but she originally had a different hairstyle (natural hair w/ braids on the sides to emulate a fauxhawk) AND was plus size! I knew I wanted to have plus size characters in the cast, because the splinters can 'choose' what form they pick, and I wanted to demonstrate that fatness was something people can and would chose to be if social and medical stigma around size didn't exist. But then I read a book called “Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia” by Sabrina Strings, where she argues that "slim, desirable white women [are explicitly and figuratively juxtaposed] against corpulent, seemingly monstrous black women." Well... I had made a thin white woman and a fat Black femme (who was also somewhat monstrous as a part of the story) as juxtaposed parties. That book as well as some gift art I received from YOU made me reconsider which characters I wanted to be fat -- and I eventually settled on Carolyn and Victor. I gave Saoirse another one of my favorite body types instead -- broad shoulders, narrow waist!

(Cara) 34: How hard is it for them to shake a sense of guilt?  Ooh, this is a juicy question. Cara tends to move to the beat of her own drum; the rules that society holds aren't necessarily the ones she believes in or follows in her day-to-day life. Where she feels the most guilt is when she feels like she's failed by her own metrics; when she can't live up to the ideals she holds for herself. She pretends it doesn't affect her when she fails to live up to her own expectations, but it will eat away at her until she directs her frustration at the nearest target.

(Victor) 43: If someone asked them to explain their sexuality, how would they do so?  "I'm bi. Why, you interested?" (In fact, the entire quartet is bisexual! As a bisexual myself, it's very important for me to increase bi visibility through my characters. Plus, that way I can smash them together in whichever configurations I please <3)

(Jude) 7: What triggers nostalgia for them, most often? Do they enjoy that feeling? Answered here!

(Jude) G: What trait of theirs bothers you the most? There's plenty to get bothered over when it comes to Jude, but the trait that bothers me the most is his obtuseness; he REFUSES to be vulnerable with others, and instead thinks he can guess what someone will like better than they can judge for themself. Instead of just letting someone fall in love with him, he tries to put on a show and tailor himself to their expectations. That and his (related) milquetoast opinions bug the hell out of me. Where's the vulnerability?? Where's the locked-and-loaded rant about your least favorite pastry????? He won't risk being 'wrong' for someone, which inevitably means that he's never right for someone either.

(Lucia) 23: How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)?  She gets VERY competitive when envious (which happens a lot in the story; she has incredible magical talent, which has been outlawed in her home nation, and comes from a very low social rung). She WILL prove that she's the best, that she deserves what she wants, tooth and nail -- even if she's leaving with broken bones and bloody lips. It'll all be worth it to prove everyone wrong.

(Maria) 38: What memory do they revisit the most often? Maria holds a lot of fond memories around the ocean; it was a source of independence and bonding for her and her sister, and represents a wild kind of freedom that she was never allowed to embody growing up. She'll often return to a memory of her floating naked in the ocean underneath a full moon, completely at ease, and completely alone. No expectations, no needs she must address... just her and her skills, and the uncaring eye of nature.

(Maria) F: What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? LOVE!! I love Maria so much. I've poured so much of myself and my experiences into her. She perseveres alongside depression and chronic pain, and her creative and passionate spirit never dims even in the worst circumstances. Her curiosity, kindness, and fierce defense of the ones she loves is what it's all about, babey!!

(Alaric) 28: Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?  Never. Lies ruined his life at a very young age, and turned him into the bitter fuck he is today. He makes it his mission to force people to face unpleasant truths whenever possible. Otherwise, when the truth eventually reaches you (and it will reach you), everyone will be caught in the crossfire.

(Alaric) B: What inspired you to create them? This is a great question! The seed narrative that would become TGG originally included just Maria and Leander -- but I decided I wanted a messy, bisexual love triangle (as well as a twist on the 'evil advisor' trope), and Alaric was born. Though that love triangle element wasn't retained into the current story, I still think it's a very fun dynamic. Two people who butt heads bond over the man they think they can't have, and have sex with each other as a substitute instead? That's the exact kind of mess I love. If the romantic rivals simply had sex with each other to blow off that frustration, everyone would be happier.

(Leander) 22: How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?  ANOTHER GREAT QUESTION! Leander gets (even more) withdrawn when jealous, mostly because it's a very overwhelming feeling. It's very rare that he's confronted with something he wants but can't have, and even rarer that someone is willing to challenge him. It's... refreshing, in a way. So while he does get withdrawn, it's not in a submissive way, but in a 'the volcano is quiet but there's still molten rock underneath' way. That challenge is exactly what he needs to actually kick his ass into gear sometimes. Be assured; he might be quiet and stony-faced, but the gears are turning.

&LAV: (gonna answer for the main three -- Lav, Ro, and Zan -- since u didn't specify a char!)

40: How sensitive are they to their own flaws?

Lav: They try not to think about it (which works sometimes, and not others). They try their best to live an upstanding life, but upstanding lives are just so boring. The constant battle is between impulse and societal pressure, and they've yet to balance them in a satisfying way. Slipping up is a 'flaw' -- but they discover that flaws can actually be kind of delicious when held in the right light.

Ro: Kind of, but it doesn't get to her. I mean, her job is literally to get showered with praise in exchange for performance, so a healthy sense of self-confidence is key. She's had her ups and downs -- and she would say her biggest flaw is her isolation -- but has gotten to a place where she can handle herself with grace and confidence. Sometimes a little too much confidence.

Zan: Very sensitive. He was recently punished -- both socially and physically -- by his superiors for slipping up. Now he's back and trying to prove himself, and he's very aware of how much is on the line. He's prepared to claw his way back to the top (and then some), but he'd be lying if he said he never dwelt on what landed him in his current predicament.

E: Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?

Lav: They are very pretty, but we don't have much in common. I'm a very energetic person, and they tend to be more withdrawn; they're very refined, and I am... not that. I think we would have great conversations about their work (they carve gems! That's so cool!) but it would be a congenial exchange and nothing more.

Ro: A tentative yes! She's a homebody, so I think she'd appreciate that my idea of a fun hang-out is snacks and a movie at home. However, she's busy as fuck, so we wouldn't get to see each other often. Kind of annoying, but it's always a good time when we do see each other!

Zan: He IS an effervescent conversationalist, but our worlds are so different that I have no idea what we'd talk about. I'm not into cigars, or poker, or couture brands, or other rich fancy status stuff; likewise, he's not super interested in outdoorsy hikes or art, though he does have a good aesthetic eye. We might chat a bit at a bar, but it would be very low intimacy.

argenti stepped into the hall's vacant halls, the slight shakes of his armor that follows his footsteps are the only thing bouncing off the mossy stone walls.

"you've riled me up and decided to run into here? is this a new type of foreplay, princess?" he chuckled huskily, pausing to undo the upper half of his armor. placing it against a wall before continuing his search. "you've gotten bold."

a giggle leaves you from afar, slowly creeping away pillar by pillar in your own little waltz, your arms swaying to the beat inside your head as you watched the knight make his way closer to you.

meanwhile argenti's eyes wandered around pillars, a small smile rising on his lips he crept behind a particular pillar that attempted to hide your dancing figure. "giggling are we? in that case— let's make this a little game." argenti mused, his smile seeping into his voice. "prance along little fawn, don't let this wolf find you."

a squeal leaves you as you quickly moved from the pillar you stood at, feeling a throb in between your legs as you continued to dance along the corridor. "and what happens if i do? will i get eaten?" you teased, peeking your head out to see the tall knight approaching.

"of course. i'm quite hungry my dear, wouldn't you help this starved beast?" he replied, purposefully looking the opposite direction of where your voice came from. his mind entertaining him with thoughts of burying his face inside your sweet cunt. he could vividly hear the pretty wails echoing off these shallow walls as your back arches against the round pillars he'd hold you against.

"princess. . " argenti sang into the hall. just the tune of it made you stop your prance, a little shiver crawling down your spine as a slow exhale left you. his voice was gentle but intimidating, it made you feel small, made you feel as if you were truly being hunted.

the knight's desire for you rotting his mind, with a one tracked mind he stalked back into your direction in long strides. he was quite over the game, there was no need to play with his prey any longer.

with a similar thought, you laid against a thin pillar blissfully swaying your head from side to side with closed eyes. there you were offering yourself up, yearning to finally be caught.

blind to your surroundings, you listened to his armor's creaks as they slowly tread closer and closer and— ! the footsteps stopped.

you could feel him. his slow exhales, the soft touch of his hair, the heat that emitted from his stature . . he was here.

"found you."

Needs Must

Oscar blinks slowly, suddenly significantly more concerned that he has a concussion than he was before Lando opened his mouth. "What?"

"We have to – you have to like, shit," Lando stutters, eyes frantic as he looks down the hallway. "Like this," He says, grabbing Oscar's biceps and switching their positions – Oscar standing before Lando, Lando with his back pressed against the wall. With a hiss, "Hide me, Hide me!"

With even more urgency, Lando snags Oscar's hands and slams them against wall – pinning himself, making a cage of Oscar's arms. He works fast and catches Oscar off-guard, making him almost fall into Lando with a huff.

"Wh–" Oscar starts, brain completely filled with static as he stares at Lando – sea-glass eyes so close that he can almost pick apart the individual hues. Lando's not even looking at him, focus still darting between his cover and down the hall, but Oscar's heart is racing, his mind is reeling.

Lando freezes as a the sound of heels echoes down the corridor, rapid and insistent.

"Don't let her see me," Lando whispers, shrinking down a bit to hide in Oscar's shadow. Instinctively, Oscar shifts – broadening his stance, turning his shoulders to be better cover Lando from the source of the noise.

"What did you do?" Oscar whispers back, earning a frantic shake of the head; Lando's curls bounce back and forth painfully endearingly.

The footsteps grow louder, pace slowing minutely as they approach. A fresh wave of distress crosses Lando's face, cheeks flushing a youthful pink. "Kiss me."

Oscar absolutely has a concussion.

"Lando –"

"Sorry!" Lando squeaks, eyes wide, as he cups Oscar's jaw with both hands, pulling him forward – pulling them together. Oscar gasps into it, leaning harder into his hands as Lando drags him, as Lando's lips find his in an instant.

He smells like spices and ocean waves and sunshine, lazy summer mornings spent lounging on fresh linen. Lando Norris, object of Oscar's fixation since he transferred schools, smells like everything warm and good and nostalgic.

And he's soft.

His hands on Oscar's jaw, big enough to hold his head like it's nothing, are deceptively soft – delicate despite the desperate way he clings to him.

Oscar moves, hands sliding from the wall and arms draping over Lando's shoulders; he's hiding him better this way, pulling him closer to his chest and shielding him with his broader torso. Lando moves, too; he tilts his head to the side, parting his lips just enough to sigh against him, just enough to make Oscar snap back to reality.

The noise is gone.

Oscar opens his eyes, half-stunned by the gentle fan of Lando's lashes, half-focused on the actual issue: "She left," He says, words muffled against Lando's mouth.

"Whatever," Lando replies, eyes slowly fluttering open – not yet releasing his grip on Oscar's jaw. "Wanna keep going?"

an query about cable!!! how did you figure out his outfit!!! what parts of his character shone out first!!! thank u i love him and u

ooo!! well, when i first made cable for class, he looked like this:

i knew i for sure wanted to give him a harness bc i thought that would be real cool (and also to suggest he’s a little,, y’know 🥴)

and then when i decided to play cable for the campaign, i wanted to redesign him to better fit the world. at the time, i had no idea what his backstory would be, and i texted my sibling, “i need to redesign cable for a dnd campaign” and they were like, “please make him slutty” in reference to his outfit. and i was like,, actually, y’know what? YEAH. so i decided to apply that to cable’s character and backstory, hence i made him work at a brothel, and i designed his fit like this LMAO.

so that is where my brain went. leather? chains? belts? alright!! and a collar of course. the horn jewelry was also a given because i looooove tiefling horn jewelry, and making it gold goes with him being red. i also wanted to give them makeup and heels. i love someone who just exudes confidence in what they wear, and i needed cable to have an “i know i’m pretty and i wear what i want, fuck you” attitude aUGSHSJ

i also knew i wanted to give them tats, but didn’t decide how heavily tatted he’d be until i saw someone on twitter with a bunch of tats, and i was like— yes i need cable like this immediately.

I saw you answered my ask, and I totally will reblog it (planning a little something), but I just want to ask, I’ve been listening to the Creaks OST, and I love it! Do you have any more video game OST recommendations?

RARRRGHHGGHHG IM SO HAPPY TO HEAR YOURE LOVIN THE CREAKS OST!!!!! Seriously I think it's one of my top favorite OSTs to listen to whenever I need some music while I draw/write, or if I need inspiration for a very specific tone. It's just oogoughughugh soooo phenomenal. As for other recommendations!! I'll suggest some that immediately popped into my head when I first read this question! Night In The Woods - This game has a wonderful soundtrack, it's also another game where I'll put on the complete OST as background sound. But my two favorite songs out of them all have to be: Astral Alley & Astral Coal , specifically these two versions [which I've provided through the links!] where the creator mixed and matched different instrument tracks to see how they'd sound & what emotions they'd evoke. Honestly I think they accomplished their mission perfectly, I swear this is the only version of these songs I listen to and there's certain segments throughout them that just go insanely hard.

Super Paper Mario - Another fantastic game with an equally fantastic soundtrack. Honestly I need to give it another listen cause it's been a little while, but some of my favorites that came into my mind instantly were: The Ultimate Show, The Woah Zone [especially 1:30 and beyond, something about that repetitive 'falling' sound is just so perfect to me], and Memory [a very very beautiful mashup of multiple songs throughout the game]. THIS VERY SPECIFIC SONIC SONG --> Solaris Phase 2 ITS LITERALLY SO PERFECT FOR IMAGINING AN INTENSE FAST FIGHT SCENE BETWEEN TWO OR MORE CHARACTERSSSS RAAARRGHHGH NIGHTS JOURNEY OF DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! then i thought i might use this time to actually suggest ‘year zero’ so that it could act as an exposure therapy to what the whole bit that the band ghost got goin on. theyre a theatrical rock band with an emphasis on satirical approach to organized religion. theyre not subtle about it at all (thus why they have ‘papacy’, ‘clergy’, ‘ghouls’, etc.)

okay i truly think scotch argues with seraph in his head all the time. ALL the time. scotch largely ignores them, and vice versa, because he dislikes them and they know it. seraph is very conflict avoidant lol, and as long as hes not a "threat" they dont care to talk to him about their problems. he probably argues with atlas and jacob (his older brother) too, atlas about more stupid small stuff, and jacob about childhood and life stuff :p

im trying to think of more general groups he would argue with but i cant come up with anything BAHAH. hes not exactly conflict avoidant in the annoying libra way that seraph is, he more just ignores conflict for his friends’ (mostly atlas’) sake. idk if that makes sense LOL

35. What is the smallest, morally questionable choice they’ve made?

hmmm.. smallest? i mean scotch strings eloise along for most of the time pre timeskip. its not a main focus but its definitely important in order to understand scotch as a whole. she and scotch go out for a while, and mid way through that he realizes hes GAY gay. lol. and obviously lying to her about that is pretty questionable after a while. especially since he and atlas have been 👉👌 like the whole time. but she kind of knows. well

something a little bigger would be him encouraging or otherwise turning a blind eye to all the weird stuff atlas is up to. he doesn't know what it's like to be a werewolf, he can't say anything, right? lol.... murder is okay if its a talking dog doing it. scotch enabler supreme. actually when seraph is introduced, he and atlas have a 'joke' (kind of starts being real) about luring seraph somewhere to kill them. obviously doesnt happen and gets abandoned. but i think its important to know about their dynamic LOL

51. What’s a phrase they say a lot?

this guy is kind of goofy. i cant think of phrases rn but he has a specific way of speaking.. you could watch pretty much any old pop punk band interview and kind of get the idea. HAHAH

1. What’s the lie your character says most often?

atlas is a big fan of saying 'its fine' for all situations ever. family in mortal danger? its fine. completely splitting? its fine. arthritis excruciating? its fine. hes one of those people that dont like to deal with the fawning of others unless hes feeling real special. Ends up putting people in more danger a lot of the time. i think eloise is the only fan of communication in this friend group to be honest. i should have made her the main character

he tends to make promises he cant keep as well, but thats more general..

6. What’s their favorite [insert anything] that they’ve never recommended to anyone before?

i have NO idea. i feel like atlas would be a music snob, so maybe his favorite 'super underground' bands. otherwise he'd probably never recommend raw human meat to another human (no matter how much scotch asks -__-).. (he would chicken out anyway)

55. What’s something they’re expected to enjoy based on their hobbies / profession that they actually dislike / hate?

um. so atlas hates working out. he especially hates running, you know, the thing that wolves are known for doing a lot of? unfortunately the lycanthropy came with a side effect of pretty bad arthritis, so that doesnt exactly encourage him. he DOES exercise, a lot since hes pretty much required for his ermm "side job", but he hates it 😸 besides the arthritis it’s mostly because I think it’s silly that he hates it. yay

19. While editing, did you kill any darlings? What were they?

oh gortash's birthday scene from let sleeping dogs lie. you will always be famous to me. we got to see rue's birthday and i wanted to do the same for gortash! it's only fair, after all.

i have written it up as a stand alone piece but we'll see if anything comes from that!

also during the party chapter (chapter 7) gortash was supposed to "accidentally" kill the guy they were looking for. and rue gets angry because he had promised her she was to kill him. things kinda end the same as the chapter written but they end up getting it on next to a dead body instead of an empty room lmao

OH and another thing - originally rue was going to be so against the idea of kissing gortash. he could have her, sure, they just werent allowed to kiss. i was really dead set in that trait until i had to write them getting it on and decided rue can have a little kiss. as a treat (og plan was to have them properly kiss after the crown of karsus heist)

23. How did you come up with the title?

i like the phrase "let sleeping dogs lie". if things are going fine, dont say anything to ruin it. it sums up their relationship to me because confessing that they love each other would, in theory, cause everything to fall apart

@the-silly-station wanted to see some of my sketches + early designs for Monster Beej, so here they are!

the first one i really based on cordyceps fungi (controls some insects' bodies while leaving them conscious as they create the perfect environment for the parasitic fungus to flourish. im absolutely terrified of them.)

i actually really like the second sketch, might come back to that one.

third one i tried to take in a different direction, i think with more insectoid features it might look cooler.

– neither me or haitham are big on chatting, it was actually tighnari who introduced us at first ! ( ˶ˆ꒳ˆ˵ ) first impression of him was "odd" – i wanted to befriend him, it was his ‘vibe’ and the way he held himself and the tone in which he spoke that felt comforting – but at the same time i thought he was a rather cold . . :(

– we eventually got paired up on a certain research expedition concerning the ancient remuria, but since he had ‘too much work’ ( liar, hmph ! ) i decided to leave for fontaine on my own, sending hand-written professional documents ﾉ letters to him -> and that's how we very slowly got close. (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

– perhaps he realised he was quite fond of me whenever he started re-reading my letters, searching for something sweet and tender, in every sentence . . . ehem. safe to say he was the one, who pursued the relationship, meanwhile i am extremely oblivious and in denial that he would ever actually like me :"–)

– i think that whenever i came back to sumeru for a while and we would be reading some materials for our project, i would occasionally steal shy glances at him ( since he's so handsome nd i was super nervous ! ) him only telling me to straighten my posture . . (҂ ꒦ິヮ꒦ິ) he offered to help with the project, but honestly only made it harder for me to focus.

– i like to imagine he would write down things i like or don't like and some completely random things i say he thinks are ‘important’ to remember ( aka important to me ) since ... he's the scribe hehe (∗´ര ᎑ ര`∗) very thoughtful 💘💘

– i don't think we're much on showing affection during the day at akademiya, maybe exchanging a few words at the house of daena and me bringing him a lunch, but that's really it :"–)) we are much softer when we're alone and comfortable ♥︎
