On May 27, 2022, Top Gun: Maverick was released exclusively into theaters. Almost overnight, it became a cultural phenomenon with a fandom of individuals from all over the globe who loved the movie and its characters.

One of the fantastic things about the TG and TGM fandom is the diverse and innovative creators who have used these movies as inspiration for their art. Whether that be in the form of writing, fanart, GIFs, moodboards, edits, etc, we have all taken the same 4 hours and 1 minute of film to create unbelievably varied and original content. And that is what this challenge is about.

What is the "It's not the prompt. It's the creator." challenge?

The idea behind the "It's not the prompt. It's the creator." challenge is to show that even though we might all use similar tropes or AUs, or create GIFs of the same scenes, or use the same moodboard themes, it is our own personal creativity, innovation, and preferences that make our work unique.

So unlike other challenges, everyone will be using the exact same prompt. That's it. One prompt. And an unlimited amount of participants.

And yes, there will probably be art that is similar (either the tropes, themes, characters, etc), however the point is to show that even when two creators have similar independent ideas, their final creation is unique because they put their own original spin on it that only they could do.

What is the prompt?

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Top Gun: Maverick being released, the prompt is:

"Last summer was one no one could ever forget. Now, a year later, character(s) still feel(s) the effects of that time."

Be as creative as you want and feel free to use any characters from Top Gun (1986) and/or Top Gun: Maverick (2022). Also, while the prompt says a year has passed, there is no set time your art has to be set. It can be pre-canon, post-canon, during-canon, and AU setting, etc. Whatever inspires you!

What is allowed?

Whatever you want. It can be SFW, NSFW, slash, reader insert, OC, no relationship, poly, AU, fluff, smut, angst, whump, etc.

You can also use whatever your preferred medium is to fill the prompt. Writing, artworks, GIF sets, edits, moodboards, playlists, Pinterest boards, etc. Or think out of the box and build a scene out of Legos, make a stop-motion video, draw a flipbook. Whatever inspires you and your creativity! If you created it, it counts.

And there are no minimums or maximums limits for words, time, number of GIFs, etc. Just however much or little you want to share, even if it is still a WIP.

There are only three requirements:

TAG YOUR WORK APPROPRIATELY so others can filter out what they might not be comfortable with. Each post will be checked before being reblogged, however, mistakes can be made so please tag them correctly.

You must be 18+ to participate. Due to the freedom of the event and the fact NSFW content is allowed, only those 18 or older may participate. And if your blog does not have any age indicated on it (18+, 20s, over 21, 35, etc.), your post will not be reblogged. I am very sorry to any minors hoping to participate at this time.

No AI resources can be used as part of a submission. While AI can create cool works of art, they aren't your works of art. As that is the point of this challenge, it will not be permitted.

When does the event take place?

The event will start on Saturday, May 27 and run until Saturday, June 4. However, if you can't finish in time and post after that, this blog will try its best to still reblog your work whenever you feel ready to post.

How do we submit our work?

You can do this one of two ways:

Post your work on your blog as usual and tag @tgm-all4one. Also, tag the post with #tgm all4one. It will then be reblogged here throughout the week.

Submit a post to this blog using the "Submit your papers" button in the blog header. As long as it is tagged correctly, the blog will then post it throughout the week.

Summary: Truthfully, Jake didn’t like anything that she made him feel. Annoyed. Inferior. Submissive. But she also made his heart speed up and his palms sweat and despite everything, he felt better when she was with him. Natasha Trace made him question everything about himself.

Jake knew if looks could kill, he’d be dead. He could feel Phoenix’s eyes burning into the back of his head and he didn’t have to turn to look at her to know she was glaring. 

He had pushed a little too far this time, and he knew it. Still, though, he wouldn’t apologize. Not until she did first. 

“Do I make myself clear?”

Mav had been lecturing the two of them for upwards of twenty minutes, though Jake had drowned him out after the first five. Still, he nodded his head, replying in the affirmative. He heard it echoed from where Phoenix was sitting behind him in the otherwise empty classroom. 

Giving the two of them a final look, Mav let out an impressive sigh before turning on his heel and leaving the room. The door slammed behind him and almost immediately, Phoenix was rising from her seat and stomping toward him. He cursed when her hand went to his hair, yanking his head back by the blonde strands. 

“What the fuck, Nix!” 

“Let’s get one thing straight, Bagman,” she hissed, and Jake felt a stirring in his khakis. “You are not better than me. And you will never, ever speak to me like that again.” 

Jake’s breathing picked up at her words, each one shooting through him like a spark. He hated the effect she had on him. 

He swallowed thickly, fighting to keep his voice snarky and even - defiant in the way he knew got under her skin. 

“Didn’t know you were so insecure, Tracey.” 

He knew the name would set her off, and he wasn’t disappointed. She tightened her grip in his hair, pulling his head further back. “I’m insecure? Funny, you were the one throwing a temper tantrum and bringing our personal life into the sky.” 

He gritted his teeth, unable to deny that she was right.  “You kissed him right in front of me.” 

“What, you’re allowed to mess around with other girls, but I can’t? You said you didn’t want to be exclusive. I’m just following what you wanted.” 

He doesn’t respond, his jaw aching from the effort of keeping his mouth shut. Phoenix scoffed from her position over him and he felt her release his hair, not bothering to be gentle; she never did, and he hated that he loved that about her. 

“I don’t have time for this. I’m already late,” she told him. He looked up just in time to see an almost cruel look pass over her features. “I have a date tonight. Maybe he will talk to me with a little more respect, or be interested in something serious. Unlike you.” 

Something that felt like devastation curled in his stomach. It was an unfamiliar feeling, and he didn’t like it. Truthfully, Jake didn’t like anything that she made him feel. Annoyed. Inferior. Submissive. But she also made his heart speed up and his palms sweat and despite everything, he felt better when she was with him. Natasha Trace made him question everything about himself. It was for that reason that after their first hook up, when she rocked his world, that he had said he didn’t want anything serious. He had been eating his words ever since. 

Phoenix was nearing the door now, and Jake knew he couldn’t let her leave. Not like this. 

“Please don’t go.” His voice was soft, barely audible, but it was loud enough that it caught her ears. She halted, whipping back around to look at him. 

“Why shouldn’t I?” 

The words, the truth about his feelings and his desperation for her, clawed at his throat. He wanted to confess everything to her, but he stuck with the basics for now. He would lay himself bare to her later, if she let him. “There hasn’t been anyone else. Not in a while.” 

Phoenix scoffed in disbelief, folding her arms over her chest. “I saw you buy some blonde of questionable age a drink last night.” 

Jake shrugged, tracing shapes into the desk in front of him. He can’t bring himself to meet her eyes in his vulnerability. “Wanted to make you jealous. Kind of backfired on me.” 

He doesn’t know if it’s because she can sense how he’s struggling with his feelings, or how hard he’s trying, or maybe she just knows he’s being sincere with his words, because Phoenix doesn’t say anything at first. She lets his words sit in the air and eventually, she walks back over to him. He doesn't look at her until she hooks her finger under his chin and forces his back. He fought back a groan. 

“Make me jealous, huh?” 

“Yeah,” he said. She looked like she was considering him. 

“You haven’t slept with anyone?” 

“No. Not in a while. I tried,” he admitted. He took a deep breath, gathering what courage he could muster. He let his hands go up to settle on her hips, tugging at her belt loops, grounding himself with the feel of her. “They weren’t as good as you. Not after what we did. I couldn’t…you’re better. I only want you, Nix.” 

If she read between the lines of what he was saying, she took mercy on him and didn’t say anything. Instead, she pushed her hands back into his hair. She stared at him for a long moment, so much so that Jake shifted in his seat, nervous and flustered under her intense gaze. There was a shift of tension in the air and Nat took a step back from him and back toward the door. He missed her presence and felt that emptiness immediately, but she surprised him when instead of opening it and leaving him alone, without her, she flipped the lock into place. She doesn’t meet his eyes again until she was leaning against the desk at the front of the classroom. She didn’t need to say a word; he’s on his feet and walking to her just by the way she looked at him.

He reached out to touch her but stopped when she held up a hand. 

“You want to prove yourself? That you only want me?” she asked.  He opened his mouth to respond but she cut him off with a single shake of her head and two words. 

“Show me.” 

Jake’s breath hitched. Nat didn’t stop him when he reached for her this time. He was quick and efficient in undoing her belt and the button and pulling down the zipper of her uniform pants. He groaned at the black lace panties he discovered when he pushed the khaki’s down her smooth, toned legs.  Without a second thought he was dropping to his knees right there in the empty classroom. 

He inhaled deeply as he pressed his face directly to her covered core. It had been over a week since she let him get this close to her and despite his best efforts, he had missed her. He kissed over her warmth, delighted that he could feel how damp the material was and that Nat wasn’t as unaffected by him as she presented herself to be. His mouth watered and he tugged on her underwear, pulling them down and letting them rest off to the side with her khakis and boots. He was nearly panting with how bad he wanted her. 

He moaned loudly as he got his first taste of her. The initial roll of her hips into his face only raised his excitement. Phoenix raised her leg until one was draped over his shoulder, opening herself up for him further. Jake licked at her folds, nearly frenzied by her taste and scent surrounding him. 🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

The phrase "in your feels" is such a terrible relic of the aughts that I feel my bones creaking! I'm a sucker for cinematic moments of course (the revelation! the big declaration of love! the quiet declaration of love!) and when everything the story has built up to finally comes to a head, but what I love most of all is the moment when two parts of a non-linear story finally meet up and everything fits together like a completed puzzle! Chef's kiss!

🛠 What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?

I mostly write in Microsoft Word when I'm Home And Writing. Before shutting it down for the night, I'll plop what I've written into google docs because when I'm not home or when I'm writing on the fly, I'm adding to the story in google docs. On the rare occasion that there is an outline involved, it's almost exclusively housed in google docs where I can eventually ignore the contents of the file to go on a ten thousand word tangent that develops into a side plot that will feed into the main idea at some point.

but I'm gonna use this as a platform to talk about my new tgm oc Georgia Olive!

Georgia is really the OC that is the closest to being me. She's basically a self insert save for the face. Me and Olivia Cooke look nothing alike, but I think she fits the character well. She's tall (6'0 to be exact) and autistic! Just like me!

Her and Bob's story started off in just the regular tgm universe. Where they were best friends to lovers, high school sweethearts, had been married for 6 years by the time the events of tgm came around (he finally asked her out after taking her to the homecoming dance when they were 15). He exclusively calls her Georgia Olive and she only calls him Robby Sam. Their original story is very sweet and very near and dear to my heart. HOWEVER, I found writing in the tgm universe kinda difficult the first time around when I was writing for Jake. It just didn't click with me, so while I love it, I just couldn't write it again.

So instead I went with a little AU. One where Robby Sam is a chef just starting out in southern Italy and Georgia Olive just inherited a small farm from an uncle she barely talked to. Just something about it really spoke to me. The setting....chef!bob...it's just good shit. So I hope people like it when I write more!

this poll has taught me one thing. Some of y’all don’t understand that in the venn diagram of brat and asshole, there is a HUGE overlap. Being an asshole and being a brat are not mutually exclusive.

yes, Hangman is the asshole who brought up Goose’s death to Bradley in front of the whole class to taunt both Bradley and Maverick.

However, Mav is also the asshole who followed Charlie into the ladies room to flirt and then implied that he’d slept with her, who took out his hurt feelings on her frequently, who was reckless as fuck when she tired to pull away. Like don’t even get me started on the thing with Penny and how TGM immediately establishes that they’ve been doing the off and on for a while and he’s been the problem almost every time and that’s why Amelia tells him not to break her mom’s heart.

Regardless of who’s the bigger brat, Mav is still the bigger asshole

Hi Maddy — it’s ok, appreciate you asking. Yes I block accounts quite frequently for one of the following reasons:

no age

blank blogs

serial likes (but never reblog or comment)

Blogs that are not blank but are exclusively gifs so that shows me they never reblog fics

I think yours falls into the last 2 categories. Just an FYI a lot of creators, especially in the TGM fandom, that I know have similar personal rules for their blogs, so something to consider. Feel free to message me on this directly on this page though if you’d like. Xx

✨ I currently write female reader-insert fics as well almost exclusively AUs (Alternate Universes). I try to make my fics as inclusive as possible, but I understand that I will fall short of this at times. The moodboards I make for the heroines of my stories are based off of vibes only, but the reader characters themselves will not have physical attributes save for something like hair length.

✨Most of my stories are for Jake “Hangman” Seresin at the moment. I started writing for the Top Gun Maverick fandom in September 2023, and only recently started branching out to other fandoms.

Hi, my name is Liz. I'm 28 years old, and I blow the candles out on September 3rd of every year. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Art in Linguistics and I had two minors: One in German and the other in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Because I unfortunately can't afford to pursue more education, I joined the work force upon graduation! During school, I studied abroad twice: Once for a year in Germany and the second time was for a month in Ireland!

I've always loved stories, ever since I was a little girl and my dad would read the original Grimms fairytales to me. I've been telling stories ever since I could remember, but I didn't start writing them down until I was around nine years old.

My dream has always been to be an author, but I only recently started writing fanfiction in September 2023! A lot of my fics are story ideas I've had over the years that I've wanted to tell, but I always like to see how they'll do before I commit to them, so don't be shy about telling me what you think! I live for feedback of any kind, and likes just simply won't cut it for me. I want to know your thoughts! I promise you will never annoy me with them.

When I'm not writing, you can usually find me binge watching TV shows and/or movies while I cross-stitch, embroider, play video games, or paint!
