Synopsis: Bradley and Charley break the news to Mav that they're expecting.

Maverick's birthday party was yesterday.

Penny had hosted, and many of Mav's aviator friends and Penny's girlfriends had made their way to their house. Bradley and Charley had, of course, been there as well. Everyone congratulated the new fiance's on their engagement. A ring on Charley's finger wasn't easy to hide from the prying eyes of Penny's friends.

Maverick and Penny both hadn't been shocked at the news of their engagement. To Charley's surprise, Bradley had asked for both of their blessings before he proposed, so the older couple knew it was coming.

Maverick had cried, Penny had cheered, and Amelia had hugged them both before insisting she be a bridesmaid.

Penny and Amelia were all over Charley about planning the wedding, they had been hounding her about dress shopping, venues, and a honeymoon ever since she had broke the news to them.

Charley was excited. She was so beyond excited. But she had other, more important life changes happening that would have to make the wedding wait.

Charley was now, on the mark, a whole four weeks pregnant. Her doctor had managed to squeeze her in earlier than she expected for her first ultrasound and prenatal visit, and a teary eyed Bradley had accompanied her there.

Watching the sonograph show their baby, their baby, was a surreal feeling Charley had never known. That appointment was all smiles and tears, and the ultrasound photos had gone on the refrigerator as soon as they got home.

They had also clipped a picture off and wrapped it up in a gift box, a note inside saying "Grandpa!"

As much as Charley knew her dad would be thrilled about the baby, she was still scared to tell him. She was worried he would get angry with Bradley, claiming he came in and ruined her life by making her fall in love with him for him only to burn in one day. She knew how irrational this fear was, but it didn't mean she didn't have it.

Today, they were going over to Penny and Mav's to have lunch, and they were going to surprise the two of them at some point. Charley was messing with the bow on the gift box, her thoughts muddling her brain and making her anxious.

"You ready?" Bradley asked, walking into the kitchen where Charley was standing, the keys to his Bronco dangling from his fingers.

"Yes," she replied, blinking out of her stare. She grabbed the gift box, and walked past Bradley to the door.

"You okay?" He asked before they walked out to the car. His brows were furrowed as he looked at his fiance who would hardly look him in the eyes. When she did, he could see the battle in them.

"What's going on?" He asked further.

"What if he's not happy," Charley replied, referring to her father.

"Charley," Bradley said, grabbing her cheeks. "He's going to be so excited."

"But we announced our engagement yesterday, what if he says its too soon?"

"He's not going to say that. And even if he did, we're both well off adults who can take care of a child. What matters is that we're happy."

"I know, but he's my dad, and I want him to be proud, and just as excited as we are."

"There's not a doubt in my mind that he will be, honey," Bradley said, kissing Charley on the forehead.

Charley just sighed and opened the door, leading the pair out to the car. Once they got in, Bradley put on some of their favorite songs to try and lighten the mood, but Charley's stomach was in knots the entire way to her dad's.

Once they got there, they were greeted with smiles from Pete, Penny, and Amelia, Penny hugging the both of them and then ushering them to the table. She had it all set and laid out, the menu today being shrimp tacos.

They all sat down,Bradley next to Charley, Amelia at the head of the table, and Mav and Penny across from Bradley and Charley. Penny started bringing in various beverage options. She brought in a couple beers for Pete and Bradley, wine, and lemonade. Bradley and Pete were laughing about something that had happened at base regarding Hangman, the two in their own world.

The men took their drinks and opened the caps, taking a sip as they took in what was on the table in front of them. Penny poured herself a glass of wine and then grabbed Charley's glass to fill it. Charley was quick to act, sitting up straighter in her seat.

"Oh, I don't need any wine today, Pen. Thank you, though," she said, a light blush rising to her cheeks, because Charley never passes up wine.

"Oh okay, honey," Penny said, setting her glass down and moving to set the wine on the table. She had a slightly confused look on her face, raising a brow at the young girl. Because again, Charley never passed up wine.

"I'll just stick to lemonade," Charley said, grabbing the pitcher and pouring herself some.

As if Bradley could feel Charley's nerves radiating off of her, he put a comforting hand on her thigh and squeezed it. She glanced at him and gave him a soft smile.

"So, Charley, let me see the ring," Penny squealed from across her.

Charley held out her hand, her nerves easing a bit and being replaced with the feeling of excitement. She wiggled her fingers a bit, making the diamond dance in the sun shining through the windows. Everyone could tell Bradley hadn't aired on the cheaper side when choosing a ring for her.

"Oh gosh it's stunning," Penny gushed. "Look, Pete, isn't it gorgeous?"

Charley watched as her father averted his gaze to his daughters ring, a smile widening across his face.

"I'm so happy for you two," he said, looking up at the pair. "About a year ago I would've had Bradley's head for proposing to my daughter, but now I can't imagine anyone better suited for her."

Charley beamed at her fathers words, and Bradley chuckled. "I'm honored," he said.

Throughout lunch, the five of them had been chatting about any and everything. Amelia was going into her sophomore year of high school, and Bradley and Charley had learned all the drama between her friend group. Maverick was now working alongside Penny at The Hard Deck on top of helping out at Top Gun whenever he could. The table topics were all of the topics no one was able to talk about at Mav's party the day before.

When everyone was finished eating, Charley patted Bradley's thigh twice, their agreed signal that it was time to break the even bigger news they had to share. Bradley set his drink down and cleared his throat, turning his attention to his fiance.

"Dad," Charley said, a heat rising to her cheeks as she leant down to grab the gift box nestled in her purse that was by her feet. "Bradley and I have another gift for you, one we couldn't give yesterday. Really, it's for all of you, but it works well as a birthday gift I think."

Charley passed him the gift box and Pete beamed from across the table.

"You guys didn't have to get me, or us, anything," he said.

The young couple watched as Maverick began to open the gift box, Penny peering over him and Amelia coming to peer over his shoulder. Charley nervously bit at her lip and grabbed Bradley's hand. He looked to her and nodded at her, giving her a soft smile. She gave him a nervous grin back.

Charley studied her fathers facial expressions the entire time he unwrapped the tissue paper from inside the box. The first to gasp was Penny, a smile immediately forming on her lips. She looked to the young couple and beamed, walking over to Bradley as he stood and giving him a big hug. Charley was glued to her seat as she watched her father take in the information he had just received. She watched as his brow furrowed a little bit and then widened in shock. She watched as his eyes then softened and filled with tears, and she watched as he smiled down at the picture. The two locked eyes, and Charley immediately started crying herself.

"Am I really going to be a grandfather?" Maverick tearfully asked. Charley just nodded, and he let out a breath before standing and walking over to his daughter. Charley stood wiping her eyes, and the two embraced.

Charley felt all of her worries leave as she hugged her dad. He pulled back to look at her and gave her one of the biggest smiles she's ever seen from him.

"Congratulations honey," Mav said, squeezing her shoulders.

He adverted his gaze over to Bradley and brought him into a big hug. Penny walked over to Charley and embraced her too, giving her a large smile.

"When did you find out?" Penny asked.

"I found out while Bradley was on his mission," Charley said, wiping a few remaining tears from her eyes.

"I'm so happy for you both," Maverick said, sitting back down. "I can't believe I'm going to be a grandfather."

"I was so scared you were going to be upset," Charley laughed, following her dad and sitting down. Everyone joined and took their seats, Bradley's hand immediately went to hers.

"Why would I be upset? This is the greatest news ever," Maverick said, giving his daughter a look of disbelief.

"I don't know," she shrugged and laughed.

"Congrats you two," Amelia said, leaning over and giving Charley a hug and Bradley a fist bump.

"Auntie," Charley winked, poking Amelia in the shoulder.

"Oh my gosh," Penny exclaimed, sitting up straighter. "Now we have a wedding and a baby to plan for!"

"One thing at a time," Charley laughed, holding her hand out at Penny. "The baby comes first and then the wedding."

"Well of course," Penny smiled. "But such exciting times!"

Once they were done with lunch, Charley and Bradley headed home. The young couple were all smiles as they drove home in Bradley's Bronco, and the smiles continued into their home.

They were greeted by Margot at the door, meowing at them. Charley figured she was excited to see them because she knew it was her dinnertime.

She fed Margot while Bradley took a shower, and then she headed off to get relaxed herself. As she was changing, she stopped to look at herself in the mirror. She was only four weeks along, but she gazed anyways.

She didn't look pregnant, but just knowing that there was a baby in there was enough to bring a smile to her face. In just a couple months she'd have a bump, and she couldn't wait.

Bradley exited the bathroom wearing only a pair of sweatpants, and joined Charley in front of the mirror. He smiled at her through the mirror, his hands finding a spot on her hips.

"What are you up to?" He asked.

Charley hummed and leaned back into his chest, sighing at the familiar scent of him. His skin was warm and his hair still slightly damp from his shower.

"Just looking," she replied. "I don't look pregnant but I will."

"No you look pregnant," Bradley replied.

Charley turned to face him and gave him a puzzled look.

"No I don't....no one can tell I'm pregnant babe," she giggled.

"I can," he shrugged.

"Yeah because you know I'm pregnant," she laughed.

"Still," he said, nuzzling his face in her hair. "I can tell. You have a certain look about you. I don't know how to explain it."

"Would you say I'm....glowing?"

"Yeah," he said, kissing the top of her head.

"That's called the pregnancy glow," she smiled.

"See? You look pregnant."

She just laughed and spun around to kiss him, wrapping her arms around his neck. His hands still remained on her hips, giving them a squeeze.

"Our baby is so lucky," Charley said, breaking away from the kiss to give Bradley a smile.

"Yeah she is," Bradley agreed.

"She?" Charley questioned.

"Yeah," he shrugged. "I think she's a girl."

"And how on earth do you know that?"

"I have a feeling," he replied. "It just makes sense to me."

Charley thought about it for a second, having a girl. She doesn't care what gender her baby is, all she cares about is that her baby is healthy. But to have a girl would be a dream come true. Pink, and bows, and dresses, and dolls. And Bradley being a girl dad...she blushed. She didn't know if her heart could handle it.

"I think I agree with you, Bradshaw," Charley beamed.

"Yeah? A girl?"

"I think so," she nodded with a smile.

"You make me the happiest man," Bradley said, picking her up and spinning her around before dropping her on the bed.

"You make me pretty happy too, Rooster," she smiled, leaning in to give him a kiss.

a/n: A year later, and I'm finally in my Hangman era.

Also If you haven't yet, please check out the general Hangman headcanons I posted a while ago, as it gives a bit more context to my characterization of him!

a- asking (Who's the first person to confess and how does it happen?)

Jake will ask you out (or offer to take you home) first but when it comes to actual confessions of feelings, you'll need to initiate it. I truly believe that once Jake begins to fall for someone, he panics. He has no idea what to do with these feelings and will need you to take the reigns.

B - Butterflies (How they act when they're nervous.)

Do you think Hangman is cocky with a strong streak of narcissism now? A nervous Jake is an infinite amount worse, as he uses his already contentious traits as the ultimate defense mechanism.

c- cuddles (What is their favorite cuddling position? Do they like physical touch?)

Given the correct circumstances, I fully see Hangman as being very cuddly. Particularly when he's sleepy, drunk, or just returning from deployment. Once Jake is in a relationship where he feels safe and secure, he becomes more than a bit clingy as well.

d- domesticity (Are they the type to settle down with you? Are they willing to help with chores? What is your daily routine with them?)

Contrary to popular belief, Jake is 100% the type to settle down. Furthermore, he's the type to have the full American dream. Several kids and a nice white picket fence included. As far as domestic chores go, he was raised in a very traditional household where the men did none of the housework. Once he settles down though, he wants to help out but doesn't know where to start. Instead, he throws himself into more "masculine" chores, like mowing the lawn and paying the bills.  While it'll take a bit of time (and patience on your part) for him to break the habit, soon he'll be cooking, cleaning, and caretaking better than you could've ever dreamed of.

e- encouragement (Do they encourage you to achieve your goals? If so, how do they support you?)

If there's one thing Jake can do, it's hyping someone up. Once you're in a relationship, all bets are off and he instantly becomes your personal hype man. There's even been a few times he nearly got himself kicked out of an event for being too rowdy. Whether it's celebrating a major life goal or completing your weekly shopping, Jake will be by your side cheering you on.

f- favorite thing(s) about you (What are their favorite personality traits/physical features about you?)

He loves how you challenge him and push him to be a better man.

g- goofiness (Do they like to make you laugh? How often do they joke around with you?)

He's the type of man to make a complete fool of himself just to make you crack a smile. Ego be damned.

h- honesty (Would they lie to you? How much do they share with you?)

While I don't think he's a liar, he does have a tendency to spin things in his favor to avoid conflict. This is especially true early on in your relationship before he feels fully comfortable. Once you two start building a life together, this habit disappears completely.

i- i love you (how fast do they say the L-Word?) 

I can see this being a pretty big point of contention in your relationship. It's not that Jake doesn't love you (he's actually head or heels boots for you) it's just that those same insecurities keep bubbling up. His heart all but begs him you say those three words to you, but his head keeps winning out. What If you don't feel the same? What if he scares you off? What if you laugh in his face? Vulnerability is far from his strong suit, so this can only end up one of two ways. If you say it first: He'll give you the biggest, widest smile and pull you into the tightest hug. It's not lost to him how a few tears spill as he echoes those three words. If it turns into a big blowout fight: Only to end up spilling his guts while dodging your eyes, silently praying to whatever is out there that he made the right choice.

j- jealousy (Are they the type of person to get jealous? If so, how do they react to being jealous?)

Hangman, for better or worse, is jealous as the day is long. It all stems from several poorly hidden insecurities. A major one is that deep down he's always waiting on the other shoe to drop, as he believes that he doesn't deserve you. Jealous Jake is explosive, flippant, and often downright mean. This is especially true if he's at the hard deck and has had a drink or two. On a good day, he'll stomp around the bar and give you the silent treatment. On a bad day, he'll be going toe to toe with whoever gives you more than a passing glance.

k- kissing (Where do they like to kiss you? How frequently do they like to kiss?)

In public, he's an old school, arm around your shoulder, kisses in your hair kinda guy. In private he's a big fan of sneaking up behind you and giving you a few kisses on your neck.

l- love language (What's their love language?)

Words of affirmation. His less-than-stellar childhood paired with his career in the armed forces has left him craving the particular type of love only words of affection can give. Just a mere "Have fun!" Text, when he goes out with Javy, is enough to make his heart pound happily in his chest.

m- marriage (Do they want to marry you eventually? Who proposes to who?)

As mentioned in letter D, he's the all-American type, and marriage is just another aspect of that. I don't see him doing a big planned proposal though. Instead, he'll end up asking for your hand while you're like, washing the dishes (or something equally as mundane). He's actually been thinking about it for like two years but he's too nervous to say anything, but this time the thought of his wife washing the dishes in his house was too much to bear

n- nicknames (What do they call you? What do you call them?)

He calls you: Sugar, Doll, cupcake, or anything else sickeningly sweet You call him: Honey, Darling, Jakey, Jay... Cowboy and/or Tex when you want to get on his nerves

o- openness (How much do they tell you about themselves? Do they reveal everything at once or gradually throughout the relationship?)

You wouldn't be a fool to think Jake has told you everything. Lord knows that man loves to talk about himself. Yet if you look hard enough, you'll see inklings of a deeper, darker story lying beneath. Despite this, you won't press him about it. It stays in the back of your mind until one day, when the sun shines just right, he'll choose to reveal every part of his backstory to you.

p- PDA (Are they affectionate in public or do they prefer to keep your kisses behind closed doors? Are they the type to brag about their SO?)

One thing that surprises you when you first start going out with him is that he's shockingly shy when it comes to PDA, especially around those that know him best. As your relationship grows he'll be a bit more lenient when it comes to ODA, but he'll still always prefer to keep the larger displays of affection behind closed doors.

q- quality time (how do they like to spend time with you?)

Paintball, hiking, axe throwing... He likes to try new activities or do something physical. Really, anything that allows him to be a show off.

r- romance (Are they the romantic type? If so, how do they express their feelings?)

Hangman is the most accidentally romantic man you'll ever meet. On any random Thursday, he'll cook dinner, string up fairy lights in the backyard, and hire a string quartet. Not to be romantic, just because he thinks you'll find it cool.

s- security (How protective are they of you? If they are, how do they show this?)

Hangman would quite literally both kill and die for the people he loves. Luckily, in everyday life, he takes a more chill approach to things and is instead very trustworthy and dependable.

t- turn-offs (What traits do they find unattractive?)

Jake is a son of Texas through and through, and is immediately turned off by anyone who is disrespectful and lacks manners. Oh, and anyone who supports Aggie football.

u- understanding (Are they good at sympathizing with your problems? Do they listen to you when you need to rant?)

He's decently understanding. If you're prone to more emotional responses, he may struggle a bit with that. Nonetheless, he will always sympathize and/or let you rant to him if need be.

v- value (What do they value most about your relationship?)

Having someone in his corner. With his choice of career, he understands better than most the importance of having someone you can depend on no matter what.

w- wild card (A random headcanon about your relationship)

Hat. Rule. If you're going out with Jake, his nice white cowboy hat will inevitably become a staple of your wardrobe.

x- x-ray (How well are they able to read you?)

When it comes to emotional labor, he is more than a bit oblivious. He'll even admit that it is a foreign concept to him. Like other areas of your relationship, give him some grace and a few pointers and he'll figure it out soon enough.

y- yearning (How well do they cope when their SO isn't with them?)

It takes a while for your absence to sink in. After it does, his ego won't let him admit he's in shambles without you. Unfortunately, anyone who has the (dis)pleasure of being in his presence during this time Is well aware. Javy has even taken it upon himself to alert the rest of the squad when you leave town, etc so they can prepare.

z- zappy (Are they fast-paced in a relationship? Or do they like to take things slow?)

A relationship with Jake will start off as an achingly slow burn. But give him time and your unwavering love, and before you know it, you'll have a full-on forest fire.
