Hear me out! I'm having thoughts!

 

Teru, after decades of the Minamoto Clan only having meister kin, is the only weapon to come out of the family. He was a surprise, and they didn't really know what to do with him. This caused him to want to improve himself, so he'd be recognized by his family. So he self-wields. He learns how to hunt Kishin eggs and even witches. Although he refuses to become a death scythe until he "proves" himself to his family.

Even though he's one of the best weapons in the school and is comparable to full-on death scythes, he doesn't believe he is strong enough. Everyone assumes that he is a katana, and he doesn't correct the rumor since that's the weapon his family is known for wielding. But I think it would be awesome if he was a Nagamaki! They're quite similar to katanas and have a longer handle, so there's better control as well as more weight in attacks. And they're a bit more versatile since they can counter and block attacks more effectively since you can control the blade more. They also have a longer reach, if I remember correctly.

 

Okay, to Akane. He's a meister with no prominent background, but he's a fine utility meister. He originally joined the school with Aoi as his weapon partner, but they separated when Aoi found a meister who she resonated with better. They're still friends, and they don't have bad blood. Akane typically works with weapons he can match with until they find another meister or they fall out. So he never had a weapon partner to truly call his own.

They met on a mission that was accidentally double booked (or was it? 🤨 Lord Death could've shipped it). And that meeting sparked a rivalry that no one expected. Akane's current weapon noped out of there because the romantic tension was suffocating. (Eventually, they calm down)

I think it would be nice if, after a while, they started feeling comfortable with each other and started hanging out with each other more. And suspiciously, Akane hasn't gone out to look for a new weapon partner in a while, and aren't they hanging out after school a lot more than with anyone else? 🤨

I think it would be silly if they were forced to work together because Teru's 99 kishin egg could be reset for some reason. So they work together, with Akane looking for more difficult missions so Teru isn't bored and patching up Teru if he gets hurt, and Teru actually doing the dirty work because he refuses to accept help. But they underestimate one mission and get ambushed, and Akane is forced to ACTUALLY wield Teru, so they actually have a chance.

And shockingly (or not so shockingly), they're a perfect match! Teru's wavelength was hard to match for anyone normal because it was too strong and erratic, but with Akane being well-versed in changing his wavelength to accommodate his former partners, he could match Teru. They win the fight with minimal injuries and a few more kishin eggs than expected.

Teru took a few days off to fully process everything, with the encouragement of EVERYONE! NO ONE WAS GOING TO LET HIM JUST SWEEP HIS FEELINGS UNDER THE RUG FOR THE SAKE OF NOTHING CHANGING!!! NO ONE WAS GOING TO DEAL WITH HIS BS!!!

So when he came back, he and Akane officially became weapon partners. During missions, Teru still took the initiative and did a lot of the fighting, but with Akane there to fall back on if he needed help, backup, or simply wanted to be wielded.

And when they finally got to the last soul on the list, the witch's soul, Akane was willing to wait for Teru to get stronger, like he usually wanted. But instead, Teru takes on a mission to hunt a witch. They take on the assignment and actually succeed!! :D

And Teru is a death scythe! Then, they kiss. Aren't they cute? I hope they get therapy soon. 🙏

 

I like to imagine that after this, they'll be caring for Kou and Tiara. They're watching Kou and his weapon partner, Mitsuba, and just going, "Wait! We were like that?!" The entire time

You had gone out to celebrate a birthday party with friends while Konoha stayed behind

It was a close friends only situation, no boyfriends allowed, so he just waited for you to return home so he could get some love and affection

He busied himself watching different things on TV until he finally heard you coming in through the front door

It was well past midnight and he was starting to get worried but when he heard you come home, he was ecstatic to see you again

“Babeeee, what took you so long, I was getting bored”

He walked towards the front door to find you struggling to get your key out of the lock

He chuckled at you and asked if you needed any help

You looked over at him at it took your brain a moment to register that your boyfriend was there!

But when did you realize, you abandoned your key still sitting in the lock and wrapped your arms around his neck

“Aki~ I missed you soooooooooo much”

He could smell the booze coming off of you but just laughed and hugged you with one arm while the other reached to pull the key from the lock and close the door

“Sounds like you had fun”

“So much fun!” You beamed and pulled away from his embrace, jumping up and down

He followed you as you ran into the living room, flopping down on the couch

He tried to pull you up when he realized that you were dead tired and almost fell asleep right there

You noticed him trying to get you up and just went limp, giggling at how hard he was trying to get you off the couch and into bed

“You’re gonna have to change my clothes for me, I’m too tired”

He smirked at that, suddenly lifting you up bridal style

“Ok, but I can’t promise I’ll keep my hands to myself babe, it’s not fair that you got to have all the fun”

Yaku

You had gone out to a bar with some of yours and Yaku’s friends but he had some last minute work to do and couldn’t make it

He still insisted that you go out and have fun without him

You promised to text him every now and then to keep him updated

He was beginning to realize through your texts that you were getting progressively more drunk and he was starting to get a bit worried

Then he decided to call you to make sure you were alright and that you could get home safely

When you picked up the phone your words were slurred, you were hiccuping, and giggling at the end of every sentence

But you assured him that you were fine and in a cab on your way home

He was still a nervous wreck so he waited for you by the front door and when he saw your cab pull up and you stumbling out, he immediately flung the door open and brought you inside 

You were still giggling at everything and nothing while you clung to him for support

He basically dragged you inside and immediately brought you to bed where he started gently taking off your coat and shoes

“I wish yo-uuu could-ve come, it would ha-ve been so mu-ch funnnnnn”

“Me too, but let’s just get you ready for bed now okay?”

He was doing his best to try and get you cleaned up and in bed but you were not having any of it

You kept tugging on his arm to get him onto the bed with you and when you finally succeeded you were laughing and crawling on top of him

He was so flustered and just wanted you to get some rest but he could hardly focus with your body pressed into his

You were pouting and burying your face into his neck 

He managed to find some self control and sat up with you straddling his lap

“If you promise to go to bed right now, I’ll let you be the big spoon” 

You were so excited you nearly fell out of his lap laughing but he was right there to catch you, finally joining you in your laughter

Terushima

Terushima 100% got drunk with you and you two were having a blast

You had gone to a club together and were having a great time dancing and just generally fooling around

But the two of you have a system where you switch off on who has to remain more sober

It was Teru’s night to be the semi sober one so he stopped himself after only few drinks, getting a bit tipsy but still coherent enough to make sure you stayed safe

You on the other hand really let go, you had a rough week and this was your release

He honestly loved it when you were the one to get more drunk because it was when you finally let go of your inhibitions

You also became more affectionate with him and, honestly, drunk you was hilarious to be around

As the night went on, Teru got more and more sober while you just seemed to get more silly

You kept clinging onto him like a koala and giggling in his ear, telling him how much fun you were having 

He held you close, not wanting anyone to get near you except for him while you danced your troubles away

Once the club started to empty, he thought it was best if you two went home and at this point he was stone cold sober and just wanted to sleep

You were still enjoying your high and practically begged him to stay just a little bit longer

But he was persistent, he knew if he kept you out any longer you would regret it in the morning and he would never hear the end of it

You were so adamant on staying that he had to throw you over his shoulder and carry you home

Once he set you down in the comfort of your own room, you were still pouting and upset

He pinched your cheeks and took out his phone playing some music on it

“Wanna keep dancing babe?”

You lit up and took his outstretched hand, dancing the rest of the night away with him

» like i said before, terushima often presents himself as a bit of a womanizer before pursuing any type of relationship, but once he finds someone he can actually see himself giving his time to? you’re stuck with him. boy will NOT leave your side unless you explicitly told him you never wanted to see him again. he’s going to be hesitant at first, but when he finally opens up, he truly bares his heart and gives you full consent to hold it within the palm of your hand. he’ll only get to that point when he knows without a shadow of a doubt he trusts you, and that you trust him. so as far as security goes? terushima’s got you covered.

» and again, teru’s a HUGE dork. like he almost rivals kuroo on this one because he craves entertainment 24/7, and never fails to make those around him giddy with laughter or anticipation of what’ll come out of his mouth next. he’s serious when he needs to be, but when it’s just the two of you alone, he’ll have you constantly gripping your sides in laughter, and you’re certain to get a good ab workout every time because he’s never not doing something that’ll make you giggle to the point of wheezing. sometimes he feels like he’s too much of a silly hooligan but you’re always the first to remind him that’s what you love about him the most. terushima is definitely one to keep you on your toes, so i hope you’re ready for that challenge!

drabble:

“Yuuji, what’s all this?” Your hand slides off the handle on your front door, eyes wide and skimming across your living room to take in the scene before you.

“Sh-Shit! Uh… Surprise?”

You were aware your boyfriend would be home before you, but what you didn’t expect was to walk into a cheesy, teenage romance movie.

Terushima was sheepishly rubbing the back of his head with a throw pillow in his other hand, casually tossing it onto the sofa already smothered in pillows and blankets that weren’t there before. The coffee table was piled high with an array of snacks ranging from your favorite baked goods to a partly opened box of pizza, and a tin bucket filled to the brim with ice and canned drinks sat flush against one of the table’s legs. The entire living area was bathed in a soft glow from fairy lights strung up haphazardly across the walls and the smell of strawberries and cream wafted in the air from the scented candles resting on the end tables beside the couch. It was all so much, and it made your heart melt just thinking about how much time and effort this must’ve taken your lover to set up.

“Baby, I-...” Your eyes finally return to Terushima’s nervous gaze and you instinctively bring a hand to cover your mouth, tears gathering below your lash line. The second he saw the familiar twitch of your furrowing brow he nearly leapt over the coffee table to reach you.

“Hey, heyheyhey, I can clean it all up, I promise I didn’t mean to make such a big mess. And I can take the lights down if you don’t like the-“ Teru panics when he catches your tears slipping down your cheeks, but you’re quick to cut him off with a quick, sweet kiss before he completely loses it. You wrap your arms around his neck and bury your nose into the space below his jaw, while his hands find purchase against your hips, pulling you impossibly closer to fully indulge in the sudden affection.

“Yuuji, I love it… how did you-...?” You pull back after a moment, hands rising to his neck and thumbing the curve of his jawline. You lose the sentence halfway through, the surprise finally settling in leaving you at a loss for words.

Your boyfriend smiles, nuzzling your temple with the top of his nose in relief, “You told me earlier how bad work was stressing you out, so I took the rest of the day off and put together a little movie night for you. I wanted you to be able to relax when you got home.” His lips leave a chaste kiss to your cheekbone, “I, uh-... just wasn’t expecting you to get here so soon.”

You giggle at his remark - of course the one day you manage to leave early you walk in on his surprise. But as you take another long look at the dreamy layout around you, you couldn’t help but be glad you got here when you did. You didn’t realize you needed this until it was right here in front of you. Now all that was left was to enjoy it.

“Thank you… It’s perfect.”

Too engrossed in your gift, you don’t seem to catch the loving look Terushima was casting down at you, smile growing wider as his response leaves his lips.

“Yea… it really is.”

this summer, me and my brother watched four whole shows. at long last, here is my comprehensive review of all of them!

in the order we watched them, these shows were:

avatar the last airbender (ATLA)

mob psycho 100 (MP100)

demon slayer / kimetsu no yaiba (KNY)

fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood (FMAB)

they were all very very good!

i’m not going to try to rank them, but, as is probably obvious by the state of my blog, my favorite was FMAB :) if i had to pick a least favorite, then, it would probably be KNY—not by any fault of its own, but just because it didn’t appeal to me quite as much as the others. still a very good show!

i will review each show by:

giving a quick plot-based pitch discussing the show’s hook or appeal

discussing one element that i believe it does better than any other show on this list—in other words, a quality that i think it stands out for

discussing one element that didn’t appeal to me or that i had issues with—a criticism

putting forth my favorite character and favorite episode or arc, just for funsies

including various other commentary. mostly positive, as, again, i did really like all of these!

(i’ve tried to make this whole thing free of specific spoilers, but if you’re planning on watching any of these shows and want to go in more-or-less blind, it might be best not to read this.)

first of all, i’d just like to discuss all four of these shows as a whole! it was definitely interesting watching one after another and noting similarities between them.

all of them have siblings in them! which is, perhaps, fitting, as i watched them with my brother

two include a pair of siblings in which one has powers and one doesn’t (at least at first), and part of the narrative involves getting better at using those powers (ATLA, MP100)

two include a narrative centered around a pair of siblings and something tragic that happens to them, resulting in the older one being traumatized and forced to train to become a soldier, and the younger one turning into something (arguably) inhuman. the protagonist’s major goal is to return his younger sibling to the way they were before (KNY, FMAB)

ATLA and FMAB are both fantasy political dramas, which is rapidly becoming a favorite genre of mine

most of these are historical, or historically inspired in some way, which is interesting!

all of these shows are really really good at character building. all the main characters are interesting and complex, and the relationships between those characters are similarly nuanced and very well written. they make you really care about both the protagonists and the side characters!

avatar: the last airbender

pitch: as the ever-growing imperial force of the fire nation threatens the earth and water nations, a kid from the long-lost air nation turns up and it turns out he can control all four elements and he has to save the world and all that. sorry i tried to write this pitch like five times and realized that well at this point i think everyone reading this will know the plot of avatar

stands out for: avatar has possibly the best worldbuilding i have ever seen in a show—it takes the time to introduce us to so many places and aspects of its world, both explicitly and subtly. the main highlight of this is the magic system. by creating a magic system based in body movement, the process of using magic and learning to use/control it better becomes immediately obvious to the viewer. combine that with the philosophy behind each type of bending and the way that characters take bending inspiration from types different than their own, and you’ve got a system that is complex, flexible, believable, internally consistent, and just plain fun! it makes action sequences a blast. i especially liked the moments when bending was stretched to its limits in totally logical ways (metalbending, bloodbending). not to mention the way that bending is seamlessly integrated into the world of avatar! the example that comes to mind is the earthbending-powered transport system of omashu. a whole essay could be written on that topic alone!

criticism: i know this is a sentiment shared by many people, but the first season was kind of boring to me. some of the humor and the plots felt hit-or-miss. of course, it needed to take that time to establish the world, and it does a great job of doing that. it just didn’t hook me until the second season.

favorite character: i love toph she’s so much fun :) iroh is a close second! and zuko is great, too, of course

favorite arc: i loved ba sing se a ton, especially the episode when they get there and everything feels off. it felt so resonant with real life, in a very fun way. there’s a reason “there is no war in ba sing se” is a meme…

other commentary: what can i say? it’s a classic for a damn good reason. the plot is tight, and it does a great job raising tension and introducing new elements and twists. i also love the care put into the antagonists, especially azula, who has a fascinating arc.

mob psycho 100

pitch: a middle schooler and a charismatic con artist team up to smite ghosts using extrasensory powers. thing is, only the middle schooler actually has ESP, and it happens to be really, really powerful. can he navigate the difficult world of middle school while also getting a better grip on his powers—and his bottled-up emotions?

stands out for: the way that MP100 uses animation is excellent. it takes a little getting used to but it’s just so fun, combining all sorts of different techniques to create an experience rich with drama and emotion. it’s playfully exaggerated and self-parodying, adding to the show’s fantastic sense of humor as well as its truly emotional moments.

criticism: the way that ESP works makes suspension of disbelief tricky. it’s a great feat to introduce a character who is essentially all-powerful and still make them interesting (even in fight scenes), but at times (especially the second season finale) it felt like a magic system with too much breadth and too few limitations. this might just be my bias for hard magic systems talking, though.

favorite character: other than mob and reigen? probably teru. he’s loads of fun AND all the season 1 episodes he’s in slap hard

favorite episode: the one where the girl asks mob out on a date as a dare.. it’s super cute

other commentary: thank you mp100 for being the leftist propaganda we all deserve <3

in all seriousness though, this show is a blast!! it does a great job switching between silly and serious in the blink of an eye. i also really appreciate the way that it balances comically huge stakes with much smaller, more personal stories. for example, the conflict between mob and reigen in season 2 is especially well-done. in general the emotions just feel so real? characters whose emotions tie into their powers are an excellent trope, and mob is a wonderful protagonist who exemplifies this really well.

finally, on a more critical note—there are so many characters in this show! and it feels like only a handful are fleshed out? however, this may be due to the fact that it’s not an adaptation of the entire manga (which i haven’t read). there’s a lot more to go! more characters to dive into! so i probably shouldn’t try to critique it in the same way as a finished work.

demon slayer / kimetsu no yaiba

pitch: demons kill a boy’s family and turn his sister into a demon, so he decides to try and figure out a way to turn his sister back into a human. what follows is a demon-killing adventure that’s in equal parts harrowing, poignant, and hilarious.

stands out for: there’s not much i can say about this other than “please just take a look” but the art and design is phenomenal. it does a much better job of integrating 2D and 3D than a lot of other animated series, and overall it is just so so pretty! all the character designs are complex, memorable, and fit the characters perfectly. the color choices are interesting and satisfying. i also really like the sound design? not often that i notice that in a show. i’ve watched so many KNY amvs by now lol it’s just amazing animation

criticism: the narration style leans too heavily towards tell instead of show. this is mostly an issue with the first few episodes, but i got super annoyed by how much the show would narrate every single one of tanjirou’s thoughts instead of letting us infer those thoughts through his actions and reactions—the latter, i think, would have been more emotionally impactful. sometimes silence speaks louder than words! tanjirou was also not the world’s most compelling protagonist in my opinion, though i think that mostly has to do with my own tastes.

favorite character: *holds up zenitsu* I Just Think He’s Neat. i actually kind of lost it when he first used his powers, like… damn i love characters with weird relationships with their magic like that. i also think the narrative about how having a solid foundation is sometimes more important than knowing a ton of different moves was really powerful. and he’s just funny! pathetic boy i love him

favorite arc: really just the whole spider arc. fucked up man… i love it. they pulled off that last twist so well, and all the family stuff was so weird and complex and emotional…

other commentary: it’s just a really solid and very well-written show! the team of tanjirou, zenitsu, and inosuke is so much fun… bro bonding :) i also quite like the horror elements; it’s fucked up but in a good way. finally, this is very specific, but the demon that can alter buildings/rooms through drumbeats? appealed to me very much. it’s a cool and unique power!

fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood

pitch: two kids do some fucked up alchemy and end up getting parts of their body stolen by god. now they’re on a quest to get their bodies back, but find themselves wrapped up in crazy government conspiracies and alchemy more powerful than they ever could’ve imagined…

stands out for: plot. by this i mean less overall concept (though the overall concept is pretty great too), and more that the pacing and progression of the story is extraordinarily tight. for the most part (the first few episodes are a little weak but i’ll let it slide), it does an excellent job establishing its premise and building on it logically, adding layers and layers that extend naturally from what we already know. everything has a reason for happening; everything is revealed in good time and all the twists are super satisfying. there’s great balance between exciting moments and quiet moments. it’s just very good at being a story!

(fun fact: i’m reading the manga right now and so far it’s even better paced than the show, which is super interesting! it’s especially good at how it lays out pieces of the backstory and then fills everything in later in a really satisfying way.)

criticism: this is incredibly specific but it’s what comes to mind as something that bothered me: winry’s character arc was really disappointing. for most of the series she’s a pretty strong character, but in the end it feels like she gets pushed aside, defined only by her relationship with ed. what happened to her wanting to take action more? that was a specific desire she expressed—wanting to be less passive! since she’s such an important character, i wish she could have had more presence in the last season other than as a sounding board for the elric bros’ emotions. (even though her one scene in the last episode was really good and emotional…)

favorite character: other than the elric bros, absolutely ling. he fits into multiple of my favorite character archetypes (fun, silly, bastard, gets possessed…) and he’s just overall a delight. plus his relationship with greed is really really good. bro bonding at its peak!! (my other favorite is pride. i will not say why because spoilers. but if you know me.. you know)

favorite episode: this is really really hard to choose but i’m gonna go with envy’s death because. holy shit.

other commentary: i’m a really big fan of the complex and nuanced way in which FMAB breaks down militaristic, imperial regimes from the inside. many of the characters have done awful things, and the story forces them to grapple with that and accept that all they can do now is be better in the future. the moral complexity is just really good! characters with flaws—we love to see it!

finally, parts of this story seem so so catered to Me Specifically that it’s no wonder i got so into it. like just the entire premise? the way that so much of the conflict is built out of identity crisis and exploring the nature of consciousness and human vs inhuman? beautiful. i love ed and al so much

During school, Teru sleeps until the last possible moment. He has a playlist for his morning routine that is exactly the number of minutes and seconds from getting up to walking out the door. He’s very particular about it; any different and it screws up his morning.

Morning routine? Get up, glass of water, shower, dress, breakfast, check bag, and out the door. Takes about 30 minutes, 35 if he’s still sleepy.

Class:

The truth about Teru is that he’s smart af.

The problem is that, early on, his parents wanted to have a good, smart kid, like the Asian dad meme/stereotype. He knew the kind of work associated with being a topnotch student, and so he secretly decided not to be one. He’s got the grades of a below-average idiot, but he’s actually very knowledgeable.

He looks plenty bored most of the time because he’s already read the stuff before. He doesn’t have any questions for the teacher, really. The other kids think he’s a slacker, and gets picked last for any group project.

The irony is that he’ll do his best in group projects. Sure, he’ll be a deadbeat when it comes to direct confrontation, but in the background he’s already done with his part of the paper with amazing speed and accuracy.

I think he finishes everything first so that he can play later, usually working into the night to finish it. He works in a separate document or a notepad on his desktop instead of on the document itself (for a group paper). People who leave it for later and cram complain that he’s not working but really, it’s in a notepad on his desktop. He can copy-paste it when everyone else is done.

They’ll find out outta nowhere that the Gdoc is 3 pages longer hahaha and it’s because of Teru

SLEEPS IN CLASS. mostly because of surfing the internet or finishing that paper or doing whatever late into the night. Teachers hate it haha

Lunch break:

He always says it’s silly to bring in a bento, but really he thinks that it’s better than cafeteria or store food. Nothing beats homecooked!

not sure if he’s still staying at home or not....there’s a lot of unis in Miyagi and I feel he’d stay close to home

if ever he’s able to get out of the house, then he’ll get a scholarship. I don’t know how they do it in Japan, but here you can apply for a scholarship. he feels it’s a good way to thank his parents for putting up with his shit haha

He saves money to buy the more expensive stuff from the store or in the vending machines, and buys on the last day of the week.

Afternoons?

All he has is the volleyball club, really. It’s a way to let off some steam and energy because you can hit stuff with your own hands.

On days without practice, he goes home and does homework. Other days, he goes to the gym. And on even rare occasions, he goes out for ramen and drinks with friends.

Other days he just crashes on his bed and wakes up to find out it’s morning of the next day.

At night:

Well, I did say he goes home to do homework, go to the gym, go out with friends, or even sleep his head off. Here are other things he does at night, right before bed

Reading up!! It helps remembering stuff in the morning

Arranges his bag. He slept on it once, and he forgot a tone of stuff he needed that day. That has never happened again.

Stretching! If he hasn’t gone to the gym, it’s a great way to get your blood flowing

He does get a good soak in a bathhouse (if ever he finds one). He prays he doesn’t fall asleep tho (or come face to face with another guy’s dong).

Weekends? Whatever he hasn’t been able to do during the week (gym, homework), he does on weekends. Sometimes he slacks off and goes on the internet. But he goes out with his friends as often as he can because it’s boring at home. They play silly games and play dumb pranks on other kids, occasionally helping out people when they need it. Sometimes they do practice when they feel like it, but mostly walking around. Sometimes he meets with groupmates if they need to discuss things, and sometimes he goes on dates with his s/o (if ever he’s dating). :)
