Headcanons about the things the brothers do to make Al feel more human (based off of this post)

—Al pretending to sleep (or at least rest) at night when he’s around anyone but Ed (he does end up wandering off after everyone falls asleep, though)

—Ed always snagging extra blankets for Al because he used to always be cold when he had a body

—Al telling people the reason he likes cats is because he likes the way they feel (but no one has the heart to point out that he can’t feel anything anymore)

—Ed doing the head pat thing to Al because it makes him feel smaller

—Al writing in his journal every morning and night to help keep his days and nights straight

��Ed reminding people that Al is his younger brother

—Ed reminding people what Al actually looks like

—Al ordering his favorite sweets at various bakeries for the experience of talking to new people (he gives the food to Ed anyway)

—Al being self-conscious about the amount of noise his body makes in quiet rooms and Ed talking 10x louder to divert the attention to himself

—Ed just diverting the unwanted attention away from Al in general (I keep thinking about the train episode in 03 when the little girl is curious about Al)

—Ed recognizing when Al is “crying” (hands over his face, curled up in a ball, shaking etc.) and giving him space if he needs it

—Ed sitting on Al’s lap, getting piggyback rides from Al, just being snuggly with him (looking at you, 03)

Hey guys, if I were to start an 18+ Steven Universe rewatch Discord server, would anyone be interested? The streams would most likely have to be on Sundays or weekdays after 7 pm cst due to my band/ class conflicts. Once marching season winds down, I will have more free time and we could change days. Stream time TBD based on what works with everyone’s schedules.

More information provided under the cut.

Anyone 18+ would be welcome, as long as they are kind to others and abide by the rules of the server (basically common courtesy and housekeeping rules). Those who have never watched SU before would be welcome to join too! We would just need to know so that we can tag spoilers.

The stream would be set up in a way similar to another rewatch group I’m in. I would share my screen and we could live-react/discuss in the #stream-discussion channel. The average stream would be 5 episodes. However, there would be exceptions: I think it would be cool to do the Stevenbomb episodes all together, so some Sundays may have more or less episodes depending on how much we need to get through to get all of the bomb episodes to fall on one day.

This would be my first time setting up something like this, so everyone would have to be patient with me. I have some awesome Discord savvy friends that would help me, but it’s still a learning curve!

Anyway, no pressure to anyone I tagged! I just want to see if there’s any interest. My feelings will not be hurt if there’s no interest; I was planning on rewatching SU myself anyway! 😄

Sex, Society, and Other Relations that do not exist

Jacques Lacan’s notorious pronouncement “il n’y a pas de rapport sexuel” (there is no sexual relation) fundamentally measures the gap between the real and relation, between primordial antagonism and imaginary or symbolic suture. As the discourse of sexual difference, psychoanalysis formidably punctuates ‘the political’ as neither sphere nor substance, but as a site or stuff of antagonism or void, underscoring that every social formation, in installing provisional bonds across this void, is sutured by libido. Probing the possible parallels in the non-existence of the sexual relation, the social relation, and the Other, this seminar explores the trans-individual status of the psychoanalytic subject, the distinctively psychoanalytic notion of law, and diverse contemporary approaches to ideology and enjoyment.

State of the Galaxy. [midnightspxce]

A quick State of the Galaxy post. Probably will be updated as these stories progress, but I’ve noticed while rereading I keep assuming people know things already from my shitposts and have gained telepathy but that’s not always the truth. Kind of my own ‘Canon Defiance’, because I take canon and yank it to how I like it. If you’d like to pull any head canons on timelines or ages of canon characters, feel free to. This was kind of a passion project of mine because once I get involved in something, I get involved.

I also am horrible at remembering ages. This is as much for you, the reader, as for me, the author.

If you don’t want to read this whole mess, here’s the timeline I reference a lot. I defy it all the time and twist and turn it into what I want, but anyways. Same thing with ages of companions here.

SHADOW OF THE SITH -

In this story, the first canon defiance you’ll notice is that in-between the beginning and end of the vanilla story is two years, instead of the widely accepted three. Well, for most characters. Then there’s another year to Assault on Tython/Korriban Incursion, or Chapters 1 + 2 of Shadow of the Sith (13 ATC). As mentioned in the book, there’s another two years in between then to Shadow of Revan, which is Chapters 3-12 (15 ATC). Ziost takes place months after that, currently Chapters 13-16 (to be updated). Just after Ziost comes the first chapter of Knights of the Fallen Empire. Five years passes (20 ATC), and then there is a two year period of the expansion there (22 ATC). Another year passes to Knights of the Eternal Throne (23 ATC) A year passes to the end of Nathema (24 ATC). Another two years passes to the end of Onslaught (26 ATC). All of these ages, beyond my OCs, are just speculation at the moment. Especially *Theron and Lana (I remember seeing someone assume she was fifty-ish and their reasoning made sense so if I find it again I’ll link it here), because their ages are all over the place through the fandom. Also did anyone notice that all the men are so damn old compared to where most PCs are head canoned as? Except for maybe the force blind classes, all the force users are assumed to be pretty young, like in the 18-25 range. Andronikos, Quinn, Iresso, I’m looking at ya’ll. And Zenith. He can’t be romanced in-game, but Bis was 18 in 10 ATC, and he’s assumed to be 30-40. If anyone intends to cancel me over this in the future, in my defense, I always headcanon my characters young. Not to put this all on Bioware -- but to put this all on Bioware.

SHAN -

Shan, while relatively new, is still probably one of the most solid timelines I’ve had thus far. There’s not too much canon defiance here, only that instead of two years like in Shadow of the Sith, Shan has three years for Lexulle’s class story (13 ATC). Then there’s a year to Shadow of Revan hits in 14 ATC. Lexulle has Malcom late 14 ATC, another two, nearly three years passes to early 17 ATC, which is where they are now at the beginning of Knights of the Fallen Empire. After that (22 ATC), Knights of the Fallen Empire, Knights of the Eternal Throne and the traitor arc take place over the course of about three years respectively (25 ATC). A year passes through Jedi Under Siege and Onslaught (26 ATC).

There are sixteen years in between the beginning of the game and Onslaught.

WHAT WE LOST IN THE FIRE -

This one. Is the bane of my existence at the moment. It’s a bit of a struggle because the main part of story, or at least the part that is a big part of the first arc takes place before the main story. Figuring that out while keeping mind of Andronikos and Mierrio’s ages was definitely a fun challenge. Andronikos and Mierrio had Corsha in 7 BTC, making him 20 and her 21. Skip forward nearly a decade to Shadow Of Revan/Ziost (16 ATC), which is actually on par with the SWTOR timeline. Kind of. Five years forward to her unfreezing in carbonite (21 ATC). After that it should follow the sort of official timeline, three years from then to the traitor arc (24 ATC).

There are fourteen years in between the beginning of the game and Onslaught.

*Bioware. Really. I know Corsha is aged down pretty far compared to my average quizzy (20-24), but even so he’s still so OLD compared any force sensitive class I personally head canon. I even aged him down six years compared to the guide I found and he’s still almost a decade older than her.

These are all just my own personal headcanons for the expansions, not at all to be taken as canon unless you’d like it for your own stories. I do not see how realistically they managed to to shove all of this into their arbitrary thirteen years between the vanilla story and the end of Onslaught but I choose to defy canon at the moment. I love the writers, I really do, but why are all my male love interests a decade+ older than my characters?

hi there. it's been a lil while, huh.

scrolling through my twitter, i found this (seen below) and i'm in the mood for rambling on and on so woo here we go.

1. skipped class

never with the intent of skipping class. i've missed quite a lot of class in my time, but my brain gets awful sick in the winter, which really inhibits my ability to do "normal human" things. i see a therapist every two weeks.

2. done drugs

nah. addiction plagues my paternal family line, and we're seeing glimpses of it in my brother as well. will i try drugs? maybe weed. anything that can be a one-and-done thing, just to try it. never nicotine. never alcohol.

3. self harmed

nope. i have an irrational fear of the consequences that might come of that specifically, and frankly i'm better off for it. heaven knows i've spent enough time thinking about that for one lifetime.

4. drank

see question two. it's funny that a differentiation between alcohol and everything else exists, imo.

5. shoplifted

i don't think so. i'm really starting to wonder about the demographic that this question set was originally made for.

6. gotten a tattoo

nope! maybe one day. probably a nice little flower, with an inkling of color peeking at the edges of its petals. probably on my back somewhere, so that i'm always a bit surprised when someone points it out. "oh yeah, i have that. cool, huh?"

7. broken up with someone

once. even then, we weren't official. my reasoning was that i wasn't ready, though frankly i think we both weren't. i didn't even know what i wanted. perhaps what i do want is something that maybe not a lot of high-schoolers want - something pragmatic, honest, somewhat more private. or that could be what most people do want. i really don't get out that much.

my gut response is over the garden wall. i love, love, love fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood too, though i'm waiting until i have the chance to watch it with a friend of mine to finish it. it's sooooooo intense. don't spoil me, please!

9. movie

i'm not a real movie type of person, so i always default to the movies that i grew up watching whenever this question is asked - the incredibles, the lion king, monsters inc. ...

10. song

you might as well ask, "who's you're favorite child?" there are simply too many. here, if you want to feel out my taste for music, this is my main playlist. feel free to follow that (and me) for more! i get a kick out of having followers on spotify, for some reason. (sidenote: i created a whole new account so that i could change the username, so that account really needs some love again. curse the constant state of toil for consistency i'm in. everywhere the world must know me as birbofathena.)

11. artist

i read a lot of webcomics, so while i can't speak of any historic artists, i do think you should definitely check out ari (and his comic here), owen (and the comic she writes and colors for here), toby (and his comic here), and vi (and her comic here).

12. singer / band

this is an easier question, because i can just take a look at whom i listen to the most. now, i listen to a lot of ambient music, so right off the bat, i can recommend moby, ulrich schnauss, balmorhea, and chihei hatakeyama. speaking about the more "mainstream" artists, i like marina, mgmt, elton john, the 1975, patti page, and tessa violet.

13. memory

lately i've been thinking a lot about how i, as a kid, spent my time laid on the cement by the yard of my first house, watching the bees work on the clover. from one small flower to the next. watching them dig through the petals in search of nectar. it may not be my favorite, but it's what comes to mind.

14. book

i'm reading the poisonwood bible right now, which has been so fantastic. seriously, read it if you haven't yet. aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe is another excellent book.

15. invisibility or the ability to fly

invisibility, because violet is my favorite character from the incredibles. she's so cool. also worth noting: you start flying everywhere, and soon enough you'll find that you've become a living carnival ride.

16. cookies or cake

when done right, cake every time. cookies produce more consistent results though - as far as pleasing me goes - so long as there's chocolate somewhere within. ~~cookies without chocolate are an atrocity.~~ EDIT (10TH MAY '19) - jamie, u ignorant slut. i completely forgot about sugar cookies, in their entirety. forgive me. cookies can live their lives as they please. i know nothing.

17. twitter or facebook

twitter. hell, anything that isn't facebook. facebook's the place that moms go to to eat each other alive. having a facebook account is plain unhealthy.

18. movies or books

depends, really. there're awful movies who have awesome book counterparts, and vice versa. and to be fair, each medium offers things that the other one can't. if you were to ask me though, i'd say books. the feeling that you get when you reach the end of a book is like no other.

19. coke or sprite

this is a lame question, and everyone knows it. the real question on everyone's mind is: coke or pepsi? and i am a pepsi drinker. though the flavored cokes that've been coming out lately are pretty tasty as well. f me up with that strawberry guava, yes please.

20. blind or deaf

anxiety or depresson? brain cancer or pancreatic cancer? alzheimer's or parkinson's? need i say more?

21. tea or coffee

i haven't actually ever tried coffee, though i've been told that i'd like it (due to my liking dark chocolate so much)! i don't really like most teas though; i'll only drink this one herbal tea called bengal spice which is a pseudo-chai tea.

Opinion on

29. gay rights

i always hear that a lot of homophobic people are lgbt themselves, which is strange to me. though i suppose it's in my nature to be unforgivably confrontational when it comes to inner turmoil, so i'll never really be able to understand homophobic lgbt folk. it goes without saying, then: i support "gay rights," if that's even a differentiation we want to make. i also support "women's rights," "homeowners' rights," and "dogs' rights."

30. second chances

i think for the most part i can empathize with those whom have struggles and missteps i haven't personally experienced. i am a very feeling person. there is an exception to this, but only when one's done something so blatantly wrong - decisions driven by greed or malice.

31. long-distance relationships

tough and complicated. having a relationship through messaging allows both parties to understand how the other thinks - their opinions, their emotions. essentially how their brain functions, because there are few things more idiosyncratic than language, and writing allows one to take full advantage of that. however, having a relationship in-person grants this knowledge, and so much more. (no one said that in-person relationships can't include any messaging, anyway.) we don't speak with just our tongue. what about the silent conversations? what about physical compatibility? like i say, it's tricky, but i think it's more-or-less doable.

32. abortion

i'm pretty pro-choice. if one'd like to offer up their child for adoption, that'd be cool, but no one should feel obligated to do so. whatever you're comfortable with is what i'll support you doing.

33. the death penalty

absolutely not, not ever. it costs more to pull that trigger than it is to sentence someone to life in prison. they must be absolutely sure that they have the guilty before killing them, which takes a long time to decide, and attorneys' time is expensive. and if a mistake is made and an innocent person is killed, boy, do you have one hell of a lawsuit on your hands. not only that, but it is so hypocritical of us to be killing someone... for killing someone. the whole thing doesn't make sense, and i'll tell you why it's still around: people want to kill, kill, kill anything that is bad, bad, bad. dog bites your child? kill that monster. say goodbye to the family pet. people feel so strongly that they've triumphed over evil when they see this drastic result - a carcass underneath their feet. to hell with that.

34. marijuana

i keep saying this: do what you want. marijuana doesn't hurt anything. humans have been doing it ever since we discovered fire. it's absurd that we regulate it now.

35. love

love. it's different for everyone, but for me, it's an enhancement of life. not something necessary, but something that's nice to have. to have someone to bounce ideas off of 24/7. to have someone to turn to in a crisis. to have someone who mourns with you after a loss. indeed, one can face these alone with relative ease, but it's just easier to have someone by your side along the way.

yes. old houses might just as well have a mouth, they have so much to say. brand-spanking-new houses are barren, lifeless. i know you know this feeling. ghosts aren't necessarily the malicious, turbulent spirits everyone wants you to believe. they're the vestiges of life, left behind by anyone who's ever felt strong enough to leave them.

37. shower facing the shower head or away from it

away from it, always. who faces the shower head? do they shower with their eyes closed the whole time? just... what?

38. sleep with the door open or closed

i sleep with it closed, though i need to start leaving it open more. it's been getting awfully stuffy.

no. it's not something i'm currently looking for, though my therapist did ask in my last session... i don't know. will it be something i will ever truly look for? i hate the idea of online dating, though that's just my first impression. i just don't know.

40. still watch cartoons

of course. i watch plenty of anime, but if that doesn't count as "cartoons," i also watch and rewatch steven universe, over the garden wall (as mentioned above), and gravity falls.

WIP Tag Game

Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and i’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.

So, I only really have three/four files that are working documents for fics, and none are properly titled, because I’m very bad at titles lol, but here they are:

1. AoS adoption ff - aka the working document for The Important Thing to Try, which is an ongoing work. Apparently I never actually renamed the file after I came up a title for the story haha. Currently at 66 chapters and 335k+ words (although not all of those words are technically part of the story - I have a big notes section at the end).

2. AoS Flashback Fic - aka a working document that technically has like, three different stories in it all divided out into sections. It started out as a document to hold flashback scenes/chapters that were going to be worked into the sequel to Important Thing (I don’t usually like to write out of order, but I wanted to start getting them down while I had the ideas, plus it helped me keep all my backstory info straight for Important Thing to have important scenes like these written or sketched out concurrently), but eventually I turned the Melinda and Phil flashbacks into its own story, which is completed now (Shoulder to Shoulder), but never put it in it’s own document. The middle section has Skye-centric flashbacks (section header: Skye and Jemma backstory - I intend to write some Jemma flashbacks, too!), and the third section has a couple Bobbi flashbacks, plus a present-day Bobbi chapter that’s going in the sequel, but is connected to the flashbacks, hence why it’s lumped in with them. Currently at 18 chapters and almost 47k words.

3. AoS Agents of Hallmark - an AU fic that started out as a Hallmark-movie inspired thing but has taken a little bit more serious of a tone, so Hallmark may not technically be apt anymore lol. Adult Daisy has to return home to her small town when her parents (Melinda and Phil, obviously!) need her help keeping their inn afloat, but there’s a lot to unpack when she gets there - not just her suitcase ;) Of course, it wouldn’t be a Hallmark-adjascent attempt without a little romance thrown in, too, but the subject of that romance is TBD. This one’s been put on the backburner in favor of Important Thing and StS, but I’d like to return to it at some point. Currently 4 chapters, just over 15k words.

4. SHIELD - yeah, not the greatest name haha. I’m not really sure this one counts, because I’m probably not going to return to it. It’s an almost 2 year old start of a story that is kind of an AoS-style approach to a Young Avengers/Secret Warriors thing, where Daisy gets tapped by Coulson to head up a team of young (mostly) inhuman recruits to get them field-ready. Sort of inspired by the Marvel Rising cartoons from a while ago. Something I was playing around with before I got started on Important Thing, which has become much more of a passion project than this one, although I haven’t totally given up on it. Currently without chapter markers, only about 7k words.

All the other documents in my writing folder are more random things like scripts, original ideas, some Star Wars fix-it attempts, etc. haha. My old laptop had a bunch of other random stories for stuff like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc. that I’ll never do anything with, but had fun playing around with at the time :)
