The fact that I immediately thought of this just proves I might be beyond saving, but oh well. Potentially a decent occasion for the Litchi Hikari Club fandom, less so for my likely horrified mutuals, but I do what I must.

Finished stuff Friday!

At Airventure this year, they had all of these tables full of vintage model kits! Oh my, my jaw hit the floor. I picked up this Tamiya Mustang, an Accurate P-51, a Monogram F-8, and two Bearcat kits.

I'd bought this Tamiya RAF Mustang before, but I built it as a Tuskegee mount instead, since I had decals for it. Since this was an original boxing (1996) the decals were in pretty bad shape, and a few of them crumbled as I was applying. Luckily, I have a spare decal sheet for this kit, though the one I have must be a later boxing, because it isn't exactly the same. That one has all of the meatballs seperate from the roundels.

Anyhow, loved the vintage kits, the Tamiya P-51 is a perfect kit, hard to screw this one up. Painted mostly with Tamiya rattle spray, except for the yellow leading edges, the white nose, and the fuselage bamd which were brushed.

Im making my own custom nendoroid

(Still work in progress)

I used Tamiya Epoxy putty smooth type and a customizable nendoroid head (almond milk)

Will be making my all time favorite (the cutest ever) (the most important thing in this world) (my one and only Son) Hachin from SHOW BY ROCK!! Anyway unless your insane like me and know every angle of your character’s hair memorized ,a few inspo pics would help sculpting.I had some but didn’t needed to use them as much for the initial sculpt

I first sculpted the front part and masked the head with some masking tape so that it wouldn’t stick, indeed it didn’t stick to the face but it did stick to the masking tape like crazy , I’ll try oiling the next time

I also did a test with nendoroid Gawr Gura’s face plate when dried, looks good

I didn’t take pics of the back all that much because I HATED IT

Over all I used a pack of 25gr putty and leave it to dry

The next day I got my box cutter and cleaned the bangs and other parts also made his stinger and impaled it to his head for now

Then yesterday, I went and brought some sandpaper to really clean those edges especially in the back before going in with clay again

But ended up finding out that my sandpaper was not that fine and if I want a really smooth look with not scratches I’ll need a finer one, this is how he looks for now

A day ago I decided to get some supplies from amazon since Im going home in a week. Its gonna take me for a while untill I come back so a hobby to pass time there would be good, another head and sculpting kit

I ended up starting to sculpt Yasu (his bf ever) instead, I might go out to get more supplies in a few days

I can’t take tamiya paints on flights (they are flammable) so all I can buy is more clay and hopefully a finer sand paper

Also sculpting yasu’s bird nest of a hair is HELL IT IS HELL WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH HIS HAIR

But I digress, I want my favorites as nendoroids 🥺

Zero cares given in building this... barely any in slapping paint on it...

The decals, normally applied by soaking in water then sliding off the backing paper, I clipped out and stuck on with clear sticky tape.

And it was a hoot to slap this thing together like a barely supervised 7 year old!

Time check, start to finish....

2024 Wrap up.

Weird year for me modelling,that's for sure.

I started with the Airfix B-25 in 1/72, and really, I just don't build 72's. Had planned on building as Berlin Express, but it turned out that decal set that I thought I saw was in the wrong scale, so I sort of hobbled together this desert pink version from the spare decals.

Accurate Miniatures SBD was next, don't build this kit. IT's way too finicky. I had broken off the gunners ring after gluing the fuselage, so I ended up shelving the kit and moving on.

Next I worked the Hasegawa Typhoon, which is a pretty good kit. I did not have the paints for it, nor the money to spring for paint, so this too got shelved.

The Monogram T-6 came next, as a pallet cleanser for me, since I wasn't actually finishing any kits. As a bonus, this old vintage boxing of the kit happened to have a rear gunner. So I used the guns from the T-6 to finish the SBD.

As a glutton for punishment, I next did the Italeri Huey, been in my stash for years. Not that it's a bad kit, it was quite good actually. It just meant I had to really pay attention to interior details, as well as exterior. Huey is more of an armor kit than aviation.

At Oshkosh I picked up a few kits. This Tamiya P-51B RAF was one. Built it when I got home, and as a bonus there, the paints for the Mustang are the same as for the Tiffy, so I managed to finish that one too.

Finally I built the vintage Monogram Crusader that I pick up in Oshkosh, and that kit was a treat to build honestly.

Looking ahead to 2025, it'll be a North American kind of year. Thanks for checking it out!
