Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the Islamic State group had been defeated in Syria, adding that this goal was the only reason for the US presence. "We defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump presidency," the US president wrote on Twitter. Earlier in the day, several US officials, on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the United States was studying the possibility of withdrawing all of their troops deployed in Syria. The United States currently has about 2,000 soldiers in Syria, mostly from special forces and deployed in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters.
