Dazu gibt es jetzt mit der Ankündigung des Start-Termins der neuen Star-Trek-Serie auch ein passendes Poster dazu, dass einen genauen Blick auf das neue Raumschiff zeigt. Denn auch hier stand im Trailer das andere Raumschiff, die USS Shenzhou unter dem Kommando von Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), im Mittelpunkt.

Paradox Interactive steht für eine Preisanhebung bei seinen Spielen kurz vor dem Steam Summer Sale 2017 in der Kritik.

Dieses Timing fällt wohl mindestens in die Kategorie »ungeschickt«: Kurz vor dem Start des Steam-Summer-Sales am 22. Juni 2017 hat Paradox Interactive die Preise einiger seiner Spiele auf Steam angehoben. Viele Nutzer vermuten dahinter nun Kalkül. Sie werfen dem Unternehmen Intransparenz und den Versuch vor, kommende Rabatte für die eigenen Produkte durch Preiserhöhungen im Vorfeld abzufedern.

Die Kritik an diesem Vorgehen hat sich zwischenzeitlich ein wenig verselbstständigt und nimmt für den Publisher bedrohliche Züge an. So sanken die durchschnittlichen Bewertungen vieler Paradox-Spiele auf Steam massiv ab, nachdem diverse Steam-Nutzer ihren Unmut über die Preiserhöhungen in Form von negativen User-Reviews kundgetan haben.

Zu sehen ist das unter anderem anhand von Europa Universalis IV, dessen jüngste Bewertungen mittlerweile zusammengefasst größtenteils negativ sind. Ähnlich bergab ging es auch für Crusader Kings 2, Hearts of Iron 4, Victoria 2 und Stellaris.

Nahezu die gesamte Produktpalette (Hauptspiele, Erweiterungen und Pakete) ist in manchen Regionen teurer geworden. Betroffen sind vor allem Länder wie Brasilien, China, Russland und die Türkei. In Europa und anderen Regionen zielt die Kritik aber eher auf die DLC-Politik des Unternehmens ab und wird nun lediglich durch die regionalen Preiserhöhungen kanalisiert.

Paradox gibt Stellungnahme ab

Mittlerweile hat Paradox die Preise übrigens auch auf der GoG.com angehoben - und eine Stellungnahme zu den Vorwürfen veröffentlicht. Dem Unternehmen zufolge haben die Preisanpassungen nichts mit dem bevorstehenden Summer Sale auf Steam zu tun, sondern wurden in Folge von geplanten Anpassungen an die Kaufkraft der Zielgruppe in den jeweiligen Regionen durchgeführt.

Das ist etwas, das alle Publisher machen und wir sind da keine Ausnahme. "

Ob diese Erklärung ausreicht, um zum Beispiel bei Kunden aus Brasilien eine Preisanhebung des mittlerweile sieben Jahre alten Victoria 2 von 35 auf 53 US-Dollar zu rechtfertigen, bleibt abzuwarten. Allerdings hat man bei Paradox offensichtlich eingesehen, dass der Zeitpunkt dieser Aktion etwas unglücklich war.

Fredrik Wester, der CEO und Präsident von Paradox Interactive, räumte auf Nachfrage bei Twitter jedenfalls ein, dass man bei dieser Aktion Schwächen bei Timing und Kommunikation gezeigt habe. Gleichzeitig beteuerte er jedoch, dass das Ganze bereits seit einiger Zeit geplant gewesen sei.

Wenig später legte Wester dann noch einmal im offiziellen Forum seines Unternehmens nach. Dort bekräftigte er, dass Paradox Interactive trotz der Kritik hinter den neuen Preisen stehe, deren Anhebung jedoch im Vorfeld besser hätte kommunizieren müssen. In Zukunft wolle man derartige Änderungen deshalb offener und transparenter handhaben.
