Note
im not sure how helpful that may be but what helped me start swimming was layers- bikini top and bottoms under swimming leggings and a rash guard (essentially a swimming t-shirt), and while the leggings are tight fitting I still feel like im just wearing clothes. 'modesty swimwear' is generally looser fitting, too.
i appreciate the sentiment but i'm not really looking for advice of this nature (i have tried it all). the problem is not with the swimwear, i dont actually have any desire to cover my body up, i am just painfully aware of how my body is perceived at all times and it is perceived that way regardless of what i wear

What Should You Wear for a Shark Swimming Experience?
Swimming with sharks is one of the most exhilarating and unforgettable experiences available on the Gold Coast. Whether you are a seasoned diver or a first-time adventurer, preparing for a swim with sharks Gold Coast excursion requires proper planning — and one of the most important considerations is what to wear. The right attire not only ensures safety and comfort but also enhances the overall quality of the experience. This article provides a comprehensive guide on the ideal clothing and gear for a shark swimming adventure in Australian waters.
Tumblr media
Why Proper Attire Matters for a Shark Swim
The swim with sharks Gold Coast experience typically takes place in controlled environments or open ocean settings under expert supervision. In both scenarios, choosing appropriate swimwear and protective gear can influence performance, visibility, and overall safety. Clothing must offer flexibility for movement, adequate thermal protection, and minimize unnecessary distractions during the dive.
Essential Swimwear for Shark Encounters
1. Wetsuit or Drysuit
For most shark swimming experiences, a wetsuit is highly recommended. The Gold Coast’s ocean temperatures can vary, and wetsuits provide the necessary insulation to maintain body heat during prolonged periods in the water. A 3mm to 5mm full-body wetsuit is commonly suitable for the subtropical climate.
Drysuits, on the other hand, may be considered during colder months or for those more sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Both options offer the added benefit of skin protection from jellyfish stings, abrasions, and direct contact with marine organisms.
2. Rash Guard or Dive Skin
If water temperatures are warm, lightweight options like rash guards or dive skins are a viable alternative. These garments offer UV protection and help reduce friction from dive equipment. They also serve as a barrier against minor marine hazards without adding bulk.
Recommended Accessories for Safety and Comfort
1. Dive Mask and Snorkel
A high-quality dive mask is critical for clear vision underwater. Look for masks with a snug fit and anti-fog features. A snorkel allows for relaxed breathing at the surface, enhancing comfort and reducing the risk of swallowing seawater — especially useful during longer durations in the water.
2. Fins
Fins improve propulsion and maneuverability, allowing for smoother swimming with minimal effort. When participating in a swim with sharks Gold Coast experience, fins also help maintain position and conserve energy while following guides or maintaining safe distances from marine life.
3. Gloves and Booties
Though optional, gloves and neoprene booties offer additional protection from rough surfaces and underwater structures. They can also help keep extremities warm, contributing to overall comfort during the dive.
What Not to Wear When Swimming with Sharks
To ensure safety and avoid unnecessary risks, certain items should be strictly avoided:
Shiny Jewellery: Bright, reflective surfaces may resemble fish scales and unintentionally attract sharks or other curious marine animals.
Loose or Baggy Clothing: Unsecured fabric can become entangled in equipment or disrupt natural movement in the water.
Bright Colours: While many marine operators discourage neon or overly bright colours, neutral tones such as black, navy, or dark green are generally preferred for blending into the marine environment.
Final Preparation Tips Before the Dive
Test Equipment Beforehand: Ensure all gear fits correctly and is in good working condition.
Listen to Safety Briefings: Expert guides provide crucial information regarding body language, distance maintenance, and safe interaction protocols.
Stay Calm and Confident: Movements should be smooth and deliberate. Avoid splashing or rapid gestures that may startle marine life.
Conclusion
Choosing the right attire for a swim with sharks Gold Coast experience is about more than just aesthetics. It plays a crucial role in ensuring comfort, safety, and the success of the adventure. By wearing suitable gear, adhering to professional guidelines, and understanding the marine environment, participants can make the most of their shark encounter while remaining protected and at ease. Whether diving into a natural habitat or a specialized facility, preparation is key to creating a memorable and responsible marine adventure.

The Go-To Guide for Women's Sports Swimwear
Tumblr media
For the active woman, swimwear isn’t just an outfit—it’s technical gear. It needs to support, stay in place, and withstand everything from chlorine and saltwater to intense movement and sun exposure. Forget flimsy ties and minimal coverage that leaves you readjusting after every lap or spike. Modern sports swimwear is engineered for power, confidence, and comfort. Ready to find your perfect match?
For the Lap Lane: Competitive & Fitness Swimming
If your happy place is the pool, your swimwear needs to prioritize hydrodynamics and durability. Classic designs like the racerback, cross-back, or V-back one-piece are perennial favorites, as they allow for a full range of motion in the arms and shoulders while offering a secure, compressive fit. For even greater streamlining, many competitive swimmers opt for a high-neck suit to reduce drag. The real hero for pool swimmers, however, is the fabric. To withstand the harsh effects of chlorine, look for suits made from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) or a high-percentage chlorine-resistant polyester. Unlike standard Lycra, which breaks down quickly, these materials are built to last, retaining their shape, compression, and color swim after swim.
For the Waves: Surfing & Board Sports
Riding waves requires a unique combination of security, flexibility, and protection from the elements. This is where long-sleeve one-pieces and rash guards shine, providing a physical barrier against harmful UV rays and preventing board rash. These garments are almost always made with UPF 50+ fabric, which blocks over 98% of the sun’s radiation. For those who prefer a two-piece, a surf-specific bikini is essential. Forget flimsy ties; look for tops with wider, cross-back straps and substantial under-bust bands, paired with bottoms that offer more seat coverage to ensure they stay on in turbulent water. Surf leggings are another fantastic option, offering full-leg sun protection. Ideal materials are made from recycled nylon (like ECONYL®) blended with high-quality spandex, as they are durable, quick-drying, and better for the planet you love to play in.
For the Sand & Court: Beach Volleyball & Active Play
When you’re diving, jumping, and sprinting on the sand for a game of beach volleyball, you need swimwear that blends the security of competitive gear with the freedom and style of a bikini. Sporty bikini tops that resemble a sports bra, featuring adjustable, thicker straps, are a go-to for fantastic support. Pair them with high-waisted or secure-fit bottoms with a wider waistband to keep them from shifting or filling with sand. A well-designed one-piece with strategic cut-outs can also be a stylish yet functional choice. The key to making these designs work is a fabric with excellent four-way stretch and shape retention, typically a high-quality nylon-spandex blend. This material is soft, supportive, and dries quickly between games. Opting for a double-lined suit is a pro-tip, as it offers extra support and helps prevent sand from getting trapped between the layers.
The right sports swimwear is empowering. It’s the piece of gear that allows you to forget what you’re wearing and focus entirely on the thrill of the sport—the burn in your shoulders as you finish a lap, the rush of catching a wave, or the joy of a perfect serve.

What to Pack for Your Cook Islands Vacation: A Practical Checklist
Planning a tropical Cook Islands holiday? Whether you’re headed for Rarotonga’s beaches or exploring the less-travelled outer islands, having the right items packed can make a big difference to your trip. To ensure you’re ready, put together a practical checklist of essential items to help you prepare for a smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable stay.
Passport and Accommodation Details
While it may seem obvious, your passport is the most essential item you will need, so you will need to ensure it is valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date. On top of this, you will need to have confirmed Cook Islands accommodation details, including the name, address, and phone number of your resort or hotel. This information must be included on your Passenger Arrival Card, as immigration officials will request it upon your arrival.
The Cook Islands are all about water-based adventures. From snorkelling and kayaking to whale and turtle swimming, your swimwear will likely see daily use. Women typically wear bikinis or one-piece swimsuits, while boardshorts are the preferred choice for men.
Lightweight Evening Layer
Despite the islands’ tropical climate, temperatures can drop slightly in the evening, so it is a good idea to pack a light cardigan, shirt, or wrap for cooler nights by the sea. This will help ensure you’re comfortable while enjoying sunset views or dining outdoors after dark.
Spending long hours in the water can make it tricky to keep up with sunscreen application. A rash vest, or rash guard, is a great solution, providing solid sun protection for activities like snorkelling, paddleboarding, and kite surfing. It’s especially handy for children, ensuring they stay safe under the sun while enjoying the water.
New Zealand Dollars
While the Cook Islands have their own coins and notes, New Zealand Dollars are the official and most widely accepted currency. Bring enough cash for your first few days to avoid credit card surcharges and foreign exchange fees. Once you’re settled in, you can use local ATMs to withdraw more.
Mosquito Repellent
As the Cook Islands are susceptible to Dengue Fever, mosquito repellent is a non-negotiable item. Although many accommodations offer some form of mosquito control, it’s wise to carry your own, especially if you plan to explore inland areas.
Medication
It’s important to note that pharmacies on Rarotonga offer a limited selection of medications, and there are no pharmacies on the outer islands. To ensure you have everything you need, be sure to bring all necessary prescription and over-the-counter medications, along with a copy of your prescription in case it’s requested as proof at customs.
Digital Copies of Travel Documents
Technology is your best backup plan. Save digital copies of your passport, flight bookings, accommodation details, and travel insurance on your phone or a secure cloud service. If you happen to lose your physical documents or can’t access them, having digital copies can prove invaluable.
Walking Shoes
If you’re planning to explore Rarotonga’s inland trails or take part in island hikes, a sturdy pair of walking shoes is essential. Comfortable footwear will help you navigate the varying terrain, from rugged paths to forested routes, ensuring you can fully enjoy the island’s natural beauty without discomfort.
A Practical Checklist of Everything you Need to Pack for a Cook Islands Vacation
Before you think about hiking through lush forests, snorkelling in crystal-clear lagoons, and enjoying the Cook Islands’ serene beaches, it is important to check that you have all the essential items packed to make your trip comfortable, safe, and enjoyable.
To ensure you’re prepared for all the activities the islands have to offer, it is a good idea to book a Cook Islands holiday packages. These packages often include guided tours, transportation, and accommodation, providing a seamless and cost-effective way to explore the islands. With everything taken care of, you can focus on making the most of your time in this beautiful South Pacific destination.

Stylish Rash Guards Every Woman Needs This Summer
When summer arrives, it's time to head to the beach, dive into the pool, or enjoy fun water sports. But along with fun comes the need to protect your skin from the harsh sun. That’s where the rash guard for women comes in. More than just swimwear, women rash guards offer protection, comfort, and style all in one. Whether you're surfing, paddleboarding, or simply lounging by the shore, a rash guard is a must-have.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through why ladies swim rash guards are essential, how to pick the best rash guard, and which styles are making waves this season.
Tumblr media
What Is a Rash Guard?
A rash guard is a lightweight, stretchy top designed to be worn in or around water. Originally used by surfers to prevent board rash, rash guards have now become popular for swimming, beachwear, and water sports. The best part? Most women rash guards offer UPF 50+ sun protection, shielding your skin from harmful UV rays while keeping you cool and comfortable.
Today, a rash guard for women is not just about function- it’s also about fashion.
Why Women Love Rash Guards
Here are a few reasons why ladies swim rash guards are gaining popularity among modern women:
Sun Protection: Most rash guards come with UPF 50+ to protect against sunburn and long-term sun damage.
Style & Coverage: They offer more coverage than a bikini, making them perfect for modesty or extra protection.
Comfort & Movement: Designed with flexibility, they allow easy movement for swimming, surfing, or beach volleyball.
Layering Options: Wear it over a bikini top or pair with swim shorts for a trendy look.
Whether you're going for function or flair, a rash guard ticks all the boxes.
Choosing the Best Rash Guard
With so many options available, finding the best rash guard can feel overwhelming. Here are some tips to make your search easier:
1. Look for UPF Protection
Always check if the rash guard offers UPF 50+ protection. This blocks over 98% of harmful UV rays, making it an essential feature for long days under the sun.
2. Pick the Right Fit
Do you want a fitted look for sports or a looser fit for relaxation? Women rash guards come in different cuts:
Fitted Rash Guards: Ideal for active use like surfing or swimming.
Loose Fit Rash Guards: Perfect for lounging or light beach walks.
3. Choose the Right Sleeve Length
Sleeves can make a big difference in comfort:
Short Sleeve: Great for warm climates and swimming.
Long Sleeve: Offers full arm coverage and maximum sun protection.
Cap Sleeve or 3/4 Sleeve: A stylish in-between option.
4. Eco-Friendly Material
Many brands like August Society offer rash guard for women made from recycled materials. These options are soft, durable, and better for the planet.
5. Style That Reflects You
From bold prints to solid colors, today’s ladies swim rash guards come in endless designs. Pick a style that matches your personality and pairs well with your swim bottoms.
Tumblr media
Stylish Rash Guard Trends for Summer 2025
Let’s dive into this season’s hottest styles in women rash guards that balance beauty and protection.
🌺 1. Tropical Prints
Tropical floral prints are always a hit. These vibrant patterns add a fun, beachy vibe to your summer look. Look for bold palm leaves, hibiscus flowers, or ocean-themed prints.
🌊 2. Nautical Stripes
Classic navy-and-white stripes never go out of style. Nautical-inspired rash guards offer a timeless look that pairs well with any swimsuit bottom.
🎨 3. Color Blocking
Modern color-blocked designs are flattering and eye-catching. They can visually enhance your shape and add a sporty, confident edge to your beachwear.
🌿 4. Eco-Luxe Neutrals
Earth tones and neutral shades are big this year. Think sand, olive green, and warm gray. These shades bring a calm, upscale feel to your rash guard for women collection.
🌞 5. Zip-Up Fronts
Zip-up ladies swim rash guards are not only functional but also super stylish. Easy to wear and remove, they’re ideal for quick outfit changes or layering over a bikini.
Rash Guard Styling Tips
Want to look your best while staying protected? Here are a few styling tips:
Pair with High-Waisted Bottoms: Create a retro, flattering silhouette.
Add a Wide-Brim Hat: Complete your sun-safe look.
Use as a Cover-Up: Your rash guard can double as a stylish cover-up after swimming.
Match with Swim Shorts: Perfect for active beach days or family outings.
Tumblr media

The cool, blue water glistened under the fluorescent lights of the community pool as I stepped inside. The air was thick with the scent of chlorine, and the sound of splashing bodies echoed off the tiled walls. Even on a weekday afternoon, the pool was populated by boys of all shapes and sizes, their laughter mixing with technical splashes that broke the surface.
I often came here, not just for the exercise or to practice my strokes, but for the sheer joy of swimming in my clothes. Most guys in my school often wore typical swim trunks, but there was something intoxicating about wrapping myself in the weight of fabric as I glided through the water. It made me feel alive in a way that I never could explain, each stroke a release, each wave a momentary freedom.
I climbed the ladder, my heart racing in anticipation. Today I wore my favorite pair of frayed jeans—a soft, dark blue that hugged me in all the right places. Beneath them, I wore a pair of bright red shorts, and tucked into my waistband was a simple anthracite T-shirt that clung to my torso like a second skin. Over it, I had thrown on a slightly oversized gray sweatshirt, its fabric soft but heavy when soaked.
With a deep breath, I stepped off the edge and surrendered myself to the water. As soon as I plunged in, I felt the familiar sensation of the fabric clinging to my skin, the denim heavy against my legs, the T-shirt slick against my back. It was restricted yet freeing, all at once. I resurfaced, pushing the water back from my hair while droplets cascaded over my shoulders.
The boys in the pool caught my eye, all dressed in various forms of swimwear. There were trunks, speedos, and a couple wearing tight-fitting rash guards. My heart raced as I glanced at them, their bodies glistening with the reflected light of the water. There was a temptation to join them, to swim side by side, but I felt the familiar weight of embarrassment creep back into my heart. I was the odd one out, a misfit in a world of shorts and bare skin.
Yet, I couldn’t deny my excitement. A tight knot formed in my stomach as I began to notice the way their clothes clung to them in the water—how the fabric hugged their forms while the water seeped in, transforming casual cotton and spandex into something so much more alluring.
There was a guy across the pool, lean and tall, with tousled hair that dripped droplets onto his shoulders. He wore an oversized black T-shirt that floated around him and clung at odd angles, revealing hints of muscle underneath. The way he swam made my stomach flip, the movements graceful yet casual, every stroke pulling him effortlessly through the water.
I caught myself swimming closer, drawn irresistibly to the way his shirt clung to his chest, his sweat-soaked fabric enhancing the contours of his body. I started to feel warm, the mixture of embarrassment and attraction setting flames beneath my skin.
In my peripheral vision, I noticed other boys in T-shirts too, the way the fabric sagged with water, pulling in and out as they moved. My jeans began to weigh heavily around my hips, and every movement was a reminder of the thrill and danger of being exposed, both in body and desire.
I saw a group of guys near the shallow end. One of them flipped his damp black tank top over his head, revealing a toned torso that glistened under the pool lights. The act was simple, yet it sent a surge through me that was hard to ignore. I couldn’t help it—the animalistic side of desire began to swell within me.
Staring at them, I felt suddenly alive, acutely aware of every beating pulse in my body. My breath quickened, and my heart raced with a heady mixture of arousal and self-consciousness. I was trapped in that moment of longing, where the desires locked away within me threatened to break free.
I swam closer to the edge, gripping the poolside as I watched a boy wearing a faded blue T-shirt interact with his friends, laughing and splashing. Water streamed off him, soaking the fabric and transforming it into a mesmerizing second layer of skin. Without thinking, I sank beneath the surface, allowing the water to wrap around me, hoping to hide my ever-growing excitement.
But once submerged, the thoughts of my surroundings tantalized me further. I felt the cold, enveloping water around me, but the heat ignited in the pit of my stomach insisted on breaking out. This was my sanctuary, a place where the allure of the other boys swirled around me in enticing waves, dictating the rhythm of my reckless impulses.
As I floated, the fabric of my clothes held me prisoner in a mirror of desire. I felt the wetness cling to me, more pronounced than ever, each droplet an invitation. My hands moved instinctively, driven by subconscious energy. As I took a breath, I realized I wasn’t just swimming anymore. My body moved methodically, guided by the increase of adrenaline.
With reckless abandon, I surrendered to the pleasure of the moment. The world around me faded into the background, blurring with the edges of water and light, leaving only an insatiable need for release in its place. I let the sensations guide my hands, teaching me more than any moment of clarity could.
But then, I felt eyes on me. I opened my eyes, breaking the surface, my breath heavy against the cool air. A few guys were looking my way, amusement mixed with something more—curiosity? Recognition? Shame washed over me like a cold wave crashing down, as I abruptly ceased my activity.
With a flustered ache, I climbed out of the pool, water cascading off my clothes like a waterfall, leaving a sizzling trail of desire behind. As I stood there, heart pounding, half-embarrassed and more alive than ever, I realized that the thrill of that moment was everything I had craved. The world around me faded, and I embraced the realization that being different had its own bittersweet beauty.
I walked away, my own pulse matching the rhythm of the water around me. My clothes, soaked and heavy, remained a reminder of the irresistible draw of both fabric and flesh—of the raw desire brewing within me, daring to surface against the confines of my own mind.

Triangle Bikinis: Classic and versatile, perfect for minimal tan lines.
High-Waisted Bikinis: Retro and flattering, offering more coverage around the waist.
Tankinis: Ideal for those who prefer more coverage but still enjoy the two-piece style.

Skirted Swimsuits: Combining the ease of a one-piece with a skirt for added coverage.
Vintage Styles: Classic designs that bring a touch of elegance to your swimwear collection.
Winter Swimwear: Cozy and Comfortable
Winter holidays often involve indoor swimming pools, hot tubs, or tropical destinations. Choosing the right swimwear can ensure you stay warm and comfortable.
1. Thermal Swimsuits
Thermal swimsuits are essential for colder climates. They are designed to retain body heat, making them ideal for outdoor hot tubs or heated pools.
Top Picks
Neoprene Suits: Excellent for warmth and flexibility, used in water sports.
Long John Swimsuits: Full-body coverage with thermal lining.
Insulated One-Pieces: Stylish designs with built-in insulation.

Lightweight One-Pieces: Perfect for comfort and style under the sun.
Cover-Ups: Lightweight kaftans or sarongs for easy transitions from beach to bar.

Beach Bag Essentials: Sun Protection Beyond Just Sunscreen
When gearing up for a day at the beach, it’s crucial to think beyond just sunscreen. While SPF is undoubtedly a beach bag essential, comprehensive sun protection encompasses more than just slathering on lotion. Here’s a guide to ensuring your skin stays safe and healthy under the sun, covering various aspects from clothing choices to hydration. Sunscreen: Let’s start with the obvious but often neglected aspect – sunscreen. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to shield your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Remember to apply it generously and reapply every two hours, or more frequently if you’ve been swimming or sweating.
Wide-brimmed Hat: A stylish wide-brimmed hat not only adds flair to your beach attire but also provides extra protection for your face, neck, and shoulders. Look for hats with at least a three-inch brim to effectively shield these areas from direct sunlight.
Sunglasses: Don’t forget to protect your eyes! Invest in sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to safeguard your vision and the delicate skin around your eyes from sun damage. UPF Clothing: Consider wearing clothing with UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) fabric for added sun protection. These garments are specially designed to block harmful UV rays and are available in various styles, including swimwear, rash guards, and cover-ups.
Sun Protective Umbrella or Tent: Create your shaded oasis on the beach with a sun-protective umbrella or tent. This provides a retreat from direct sunlight, allowing you to take breaks from sun exposure throughout the day.
Hydration: Staying hydrated is key to maintaining healthy skin, especially when spending time outdoors in the sun. Pack plenty of water in your beach bag to prevent dehydration and replenish lost fluids due to sweating. Lip Balm with SPF: Don’t overlook your lips when it comes to sun protection. Choose a lip balm with SPF to shield your lips from sunburn and keep them moisturized throughout the day. Cooling Mist: Refresh your skin with a cooling mist or spray to soothe sun-exposed areas and provide instant relief from the heat. Look for products infused with ingredients like aloe vera or cucumber for added hydration and cooling effects. Aloe Vera Gel: In case of sunburn, aloe vera gel can work wonders to soothe and heal the skin. Keep a bottle of pure aloe vera gel in your beach bag to provide relief from sunburn and reduce inflammation. After-Sun Lotion: After a day in the sun, treat your skin to some TLC with an after-sun lotion or moisturizer. Choose a product enriched with soothing ingredients like vitamin E and cocoa butter to nourish and hydrate sun-exposed skin.
Wide-Tooth Comb or Detangling Brush: Saltwater and wind can leave your hair tangled and unruly after a day at the beach. Pack a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush in your beach bag to gently remove knots and tangles without causing breakage. Snacks: Fuel your beach day with healthy snacks to keep your energy levels up. Pack portable options like fruits, nuts, and granola bars to munch on throughout the day.
By incorporating these sun protection essentials into your perfect bag for the beach, you can enjoy a fun-filled day in the sun while safeguarding your skin from harmful UV rays. Remember, sun protection is not just a single step but a combination of measures to keep your skin healthy and protected all day long.
