A Night Called Tomorrow. It's a podcast helmed by James Urbaniak, one of my favorite cult actors - from Venture Bros, you know.
I heard about it last year or so, and I definitely wanted to check it out. But, the podcast network that hosted it, howl.fm, went under. So, unfortunately, other than this free sample first episode, the other episodes of the podcast are also a piece of lost media - much like the webcomic I talked about a while ago, the Swim Club one.
Urbaniak plays an unemployed MC in red scare era Hollywood, who, having befriended an actress (played by Azure Parsons), sets out to investigate a possibly alien (or eldritch) conspiracy. Or so I heard, since, I like I said, I could only get my hands on the first episode.
Since it's more of a cult work, it wasn't something pirates were interested in, so, now that the site hosting it is dead, it's probably lost in the folds of time too.
I don't even know if Urbaniak himself has the originals, or, even in case he does, if he's allowed to release them or if there's some sort of copyright issue... which is what happened to that Coyote movie on HBO Max.
Pity, but, it's a weird thing - the only way the podcast could get made was if they made sure it was profitable - i.e., if it was behind a paywall. And now that the paywall isn't working anymore, it's impossible to find, even if you're willing to pay for it.

Amanda Pease, President of the Board of Directors of the Santa Clara Swim Club, is busy planning for the Swim Club’s “Casino Night,” a fundraiser to be held on Saturday, March 30 from 6 to 10 p.m. at 1600 Martin Ave. where the Aquamaids’ Bingo Hall is located. “We just want some community bonding and community building with our membership,” Pease said. “The event is open to anyone who wants to come.”

How To Run A Swim Club
Let me state first; I do not run a swim club. When I was head coach, I was not a voting member on the board of directors so I did not run the club. I was paid by the club as an employee or self employed. However I’ve been in and around clubs my entire life. And that’s getting to be a pretty long time now as grey starts to overtake any areas requiring a shave down for high performance masters…

Well, what occupied your mind in 2013?
Also, do you even know how nice it feels to draw a decade+ old ship you have in a way you WANT and actually kinda ACHIEVE THAT. Last time I drew them was like, legit 10 years ago and my mid teens self would be so damn proud of me now.

So, last time I mentioned a comic that didn't exist, but this time I'm going to mention one that did - but doesn't anymore.
It's called Swim Club, created by Justin Alexander and Britt Prevatte. I don't know who they are. Around 2018 or so, they uploaded is as a webcomic to self-hosted site swimclubcomic.com. I found out about it later, but by then, the site had already gone offline. I can't find information about the creators online (it doesn't help that there are other, more famous people with the same name as Alexander), and anything else related to the comic just leads back to the now-dead website.
Tumblr media
On the wayback machine, I manged to find and save a few of the sixty or so pages of the comic - the cover, pages 2, 43, 51 and 59, but nothing else.
So, it seems like the comic is lost for good. Which is weird, cause, people seem to think on the internet, stuff is supposed to be preserved forever. But this webcomic - which admittedly wasn't popular despite the high polish - simply doesn't exist anymore. The creators disappeared, too, and I don't even know if they're alive anymore.
I don't know much of the story - something about teenagers interacting and fighting old gods or something, like Lovecraft meets a sports manga, interdimensional stuff - but the art is really well done and interesting, and I really like the vibe. Some cool hatching and Ben-Day action, too. Check that last page out, isn't it good stuff?
I was going to say something silly - "if I was that talented, I would never give up making comics."
I was talking to a bud a few months ago about Quentin Tarantino's decision to retire after his next movie. My friend was confused by it - why would someone so talented give up on the dream job of directing movies? But, you know, the reason his movies are so good (I know some people don't really like him, but that's not the point) is because he works so hard on making them, and that ends up being exhausting. It seems like the reason there isn't a Vega Brothers movie, or a Kill Bill Volume 3 is because he was too tired to make those.
So, he's made his movies, and he made money off those, I figured he's earned an early retirement. Even if I'm a fan, it's not like creators owe their fans to continue making art even if they're burnt out and out of ideas. Not unless they can't afford to give it up, which is a-whole-nother can of worms.
So, I can't blame the creators of Swim Club for giving up their work, either. It's a pity I won't get to actually read the thing (I've only found out about it post-mortem), but even if I did, it's not like the story reached an ending then and there. It's kind of a melancholy thought, the idea that something so well-made would be lost in the tides of time, though.
I understand it's happened a lot throughout history, even to beloved geniuses like Kafka, Shakespeare and Fritz Lang, but, still. Sad.

“...I’m sorry,” he comments simpy after a few long beats of silence, he still isn’t looking at you, “I do not have it in me…to talk about how I feel right now.”
It’s hard for him, being in a relationship, especially one this serious. One this vulnerable. He wishes it wasn’t, it seems to come so easy to you.
But you just don’t get it, he doesn’t think so at least.
His entire childhood was one filled with a very verbally imposing father. One who insisted he keep his mouth shut, talking or screaming over him whenever he tried to voice how he felt. A simple dismissive wave sent towards him for feeling any type of way.
And he knows you, he knows you wouldn’t do that. He knows he’s safe in your arms, he knows his heart is protected by you and your hands alone, and the last thing you would do would be to crush it between your calloused palms at one disagreement.
But the thought that you could, the simple idea that you could dismiss him just as quickly, makes him feel like that little boy with thick tears in his eyes as he begs to be heard again. And he won’t risk that.
He expects you to get upset, he expects you to sigh heavily and storm out at his refusal.
But you don’t
“Okay,” you respond simply in your soft tone, offering him an understanding nod, “I understand, we don’t have to talk. But I’m here when you’re ready, if you are eventually.”
He doesn’t respond, he’s baffled only slightly. He pauses again before he nods, swallowing thickly as he finally meets your gaze.
Sincere, understanding, loving.
His eyes mist over, and it’s not long before his arms are wrapped around your waist. His head burrows itself into the crook of your neck while the hot tears stream down his face slowly, and the feeling he gets when you hold him in return instead of pushing him away is indescribable. It feels like home.

As training for the summer Olympics is starting, Santa Clara’s International Swim Center (ISC) closed on Jan. 12 “until further notice” until safety, health and equipment problems are resolved. The shutdown was a surprise to Santa Clara Swim Club members. “We had regular practices and classes on Thursday,” said Santa Clara Swim Club manager Kevin Zacher. Read complete news at svvoice.com.
