Welcome to gaylor tumblr!!! I'm a swiftgron but excited for some balanced kaylor takes. could you do a minipost of all the karlie references taylor did with lover era promo (like the butterfly mural)? TSYM and welcome again!!!

Thank you for the welcome! I’ve been on here for years but haven’t been gaylor on main in years! AND EVERYONE IS SO NICE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that people are open to multiple interpretations and one of them is that we’re all clowns who know nothing

And ok omg so this was fun but also bittersweet and I had a post and lost it, but here is a mostly picture based summary of highlights:

The butterfly mural. Probably the loudest Kaylor nod. It was commissioned by Taylor to the artist Kelsey Montague who had famously painted a wings mural Taylor got a pic with in 2014. She also less famously doodled over the Kaylor Vogue cover with butterfly wings (wings are her thing), and it was shared on her website and all her socials. Kelsey said she didn’t know it was Taylor who requested the mural, but some standout images in it include the giraffe pattern on the outside, two ladybugs/ ladybirds (nice pun, Taylor 😉🐞🐞) and of course daisies

In YNTCD video there are plenty of trailers, including one with pride flag rainbow stripes and one in the lesbian flag colours, but there is only one airstream. It is outside the airstream that people protest. There was an airstream in their vogue photo shoot. Also interesting that the airstream was the yellow scene, Taylor had described Karlie as “sunshine” in the vogue best best friends video, the yellow stripe in the pride flag represents “sunlight and happiness” ☀️ (happiness 😳 don’t @ me, evermore album!😫😭)

In the same yellow scene, Taylor is sipping a cocktail with a straw that reads lover, fashioned in the same style as the bride straw Karlie had during her bachelorette weekend in 2018..... which included going to rep tour Nashville. Of course Taylor sold these straws as merch too.

We also got smacked with some Daisy imagery in YNTCD, and Taylor liked this post on tumblr about taking her Daisy away while the world burned behind her (and it was tweeted by someone with Karlie as their profile pic, then shared to tumblr by a Karlie fan -ksunshinek - the sunshine really jumped out ☀️☀️☀️

Taylor’s performance outfit for the VMAs had a striking resemblance to one Karlie wore in a photo shoot in 2017. She likes twinning with Karlie, most famously her Out Of The Woods look on 1989 tour matching the bodysuit Karlie wore at VSFS 2013.

Lover the song. It was first released as a single on August 16th, 13 days after Karlie’s birthday and placed as the 3rd track on the album, Karlie’s bday is the 3rd. Then on some “”random”” Tuesday she drops the Lover remix with Shawn which includes a gold heart over her eye (gold is a Karlie thing), and that random Tuesday happened to be November 13th, the 6 year anniversary of when they first met! 13 days later she released the Lover first dance remix, but it was also the day after she performed it at the AMAs so isn’t as Kaylor

The heart purse merch. First of all, Taylor was papped with her black heart purse twice in June 2014, one of those times was sneaking in that garden gate at Karlie’s West Village home and then hanging out. Reachy, but the colour palette of the era was mostly 4 colours - the green, blue, purple & pink - but there were 3 options for the purse - reachy, but 3 is Karlie’s number

The album photo shoot behind the scenes video, Hi there, King of My Heart! Karlie is a Leo. These pics were said to be taken at her LA home (but I can’t find more sources other than fans, idk, maybe they went to a secret session and recognised it?), but the Lion in a crown being part of Taylor’s decor is interesting and it had nothing to do with the content of the photo shoot

In the video for ME! there was a panther looking figurine on the table near the window. Karlie’s walk is known as the panther

Another fashion parallel with similar horse earrings as to ones Karlie wore in her major runway show of 2017 - and why horses when the era was covered in unicorns? 🦄

Taylor replying to a fan on tumblr about how to use meowy as an adjective and mentioning a friend dressing up as catwoman for Halloween... I can’t with her

December was a fun month. On the 4th, aka, kissgate day, Taylor was randomly papped leaving Stella McCartney’s studio in London wearing her VSFS angel wings ring which is believed to have been given to her by Karlie as it is a gift from VS to their angels in the fashion show.

Project Runway had a challenge involving animal print and just decided to promote the Cats movie in it by having one of the giant prop doors and included footage from filming Cats in it..... strange.... but before the episode aired, Taylor posted this pic of herself with one of the giant prop doors. It was a very weird way of them being linked when no one on the project runway team was linked to the movie in any way AT ALL

I’m sure there is more, I didn’t do any lyric analysis and just pointed the most obvious Kaylor symbols in ME! & YNTCD. I didn’t go through all the interviews either yet, but these things seemed to be the most memorable and loudest moments. Karlie threw out some signals too, like constant sunset/ sky pics. She hasn’t posted a sky picture since April, but was allllll about the sky in Lover era, but this was about Taylor’s signals.

if you all will allow me to indulge in my forbidden swiftgron tendencies just for a moment because it is the 8 (?) year anniversary of them being spotted on their hunger games hang out for the first time...

it really does make me LOSE MY ABSOLUTE MIND that taylor wrote wonderland. a song so obnoxiously referencing her favorite piece of media over and over again as a metaphor for the way her and her partner fell in love too quickly and got torn apart by the world. name drops dianna’s blog which she later deletes without a trace (so weird) and tattoo... and she.... puts lines as obnoxious as “too in love to think straight” and “haven’t you heard what becomes of curious minds?” the way that dianna never acknowledged or mentioned her friend’s song about her favorite book/movie. the way “doesn’t it all seem new and exciting?” is practically copy and pasted from the note dianna put on twitter and talked about taylor in when they first became friends. and then... she got that shit removed 😭 straight up removed an entire tattoo and said she specifically didn’t want to talk about why she was getting it removed at her cafe carlyle performance.

@ts7eggs Yup! Taylor x Dianna attended the September 4th LA show for Jack’s band Fun, where Tegan and Sara were the opening acts for several dates. Taylor had them on as guests for the August 20th RED Tour show at the Staples Center (LA) after hearing “Closer” being played for the “G.B.F” (Gay Best Friend) movie trailer.

Hear me out because I’m emotional 😭 But I was a full-blown Kaylor until yesterday when heard August. I think August is their breakup song. 😭 We already know that August is Karlie’s birthday month and that it seems like the girls had an important anniversary in August. But the lyrics hit ya in the gut. “Will you call when you're back at school?”Karlie is the only one of Tay’s loves who is still in school in NY and she often posts about it. ▶️

This song couldn’t be about high school because the wine imagery is too adult (high schoolers usually go for the cheaper alcohol). “So much for summer love and saying "us"” I venture that there was a plan to- either last summer or this summer- come out as a couple and say “us” publicly. But then the breakup. “Remember when I pulled up and said "Get in the car" Getaway car imagery. Also brings back those Vogue pictures where Taylor is driving with Karlie in the passenger seat.▶️

unfortunately, i haven't listened to August enough to talk about it critically. "you were never mine" could be in reference to the fact that Karlie has been with Josh the whole time. however the reference of "getting in the car" has a link to Betty where the third person drove up to "James" and they spent the summer together until ultimately she came back to Betty. so perhaps August is about Swiftgron? taylor did say it's about a love triangle so. some things to think about :)

on another note just because it might be over doesn't mean you can't still be a Kaylor. the fact that it happened is still enough. there are people who are really into Swiftgron and that's been through for years. plus Karlie probably didn't have much of a choice in the "bad decisions" she made. maybe I'm being naive but.. if she defied her "husband" things could get messy with what the real story is...

What's wild to me about ppl who think Kaylor has broken up is that they find secret messages within the already secret messages she gives about Kaylor. For example, Taylor posted DWOHT lyrics on the Kissgate anniversary, so we realized it was a song about Kissgate. But the hardcore Swiftgrons would say no she only did that so you *think* it's about Karlie. Like what? How many layers of secrecy is going on here? To me, there's no subtext WITHIN the subtext. Kaylor is the secret.

That one specifically sends me every time. Like, if you’re in the closet and in a secret gay relationship why would you wanna cover it by making people believe you’re in a different secret gay relationship?  It’s on the same level as the theory that she was in a fake public relationship with a straight white man (Tom) to cover her real relationship with another straight white man (Joe)

I don’t know if it’s important or not but Dianna wishes several friends a late happy birthday on twitter, apologizing for missing the actual day through this spring and summer.  It seems like maybe she’s going through something (like a bad break up?) because it’s not like her to miss friends’ birthdays.

She reblogged both of these posts and the only hashtag they had in common was “#lost love” - she was searching that hashtag.

I think it’s very clear that today is the day Swiftgron 2.0 broke up.  I believe they were forced to by their management teams due to being outed.

At her first show since their supposed break-up, Taylor performs Ours as a surprise song. She introduces it by saying: “This is a song about how, when you fall in love everybody starts to give you their opinion. I imagine it could be really hard to make a relationship last, I wouldn’t know. But, given that everyone is giving you their own opinion about it, I think that the only opinion you should really listen to is yours and if you love that person, that should be all that matters.”

Dianna dyes her hair brown and goes to Morocco a week later with Ashley (”You searched the world for something else, To make you feel like what we had”) from about May 11 - May 14 or 15.  While there she attends the A Small World relaunch. ASW could be viewed as a bit “sketchy” if you will.  I think this is where she befriends Olivia Wilde.

This is Dianna’s first (known) trip to Morocco (Derek Blasberg is there too) but she seems to be drawn there over and over again after this, even marrying Winston Marshall there (and possibly meeting another boyfriend, Gus Wenner there.)

May 19, 2013 - Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas

Taylor wins 8 awards and says this during her acceptance speech:

This and the performance of Ours makes me think Taylor is bitter about a break up right now, even though publicly she broke up with Harry back in January.

This is also the event where Taylor is famously grossed out by Justin and Selena’s hetero nonsense and does this:

It seems like as always, Taylor has a lot going on right now...some kind of drama with Justin is boiling but it’s possible she’s also referencing her breakup with Dianna in her acceptance speech.

It has to do with the fact that, you know people talk about ghosts all the time. You just kind of imagine it being this supernatural thing, but there's another kind of ghost and it's just a person who is out there walking in the world or just doesn't love you anymore and that's a whole different kind of being haunted." Seems like she’s really going through it.

July 2, 2013 - Anniversary of Hyannis Port trip and interesting private Tumblr post from Dianna:

August 14, 2013 - Taylor is in a weird place according to the Lover diaries:

2.  she’s really harping on themes she ends up addressing in I Know Places, Out of the Woods, and Wonderland

August 29, 2013 - Dianna steps out with restaurateur Nick Mathers.  

Not sure what to make of this one.  Dianna seems to date two types of men:  1. teeny bopper actors for bearding and pr purposes (it generally seems) and 2. rich businessmen.  Nick is type 2, but their relationship is reported on as if it’s PR.  “Sources” call up gossip sites to fill them in on the relationship and both their projects get plugged along with announcements on them as a couple:

September 4, 2013 - The Fun! Concert:

Swiftgron’s last pre-Kaylor public sighting - they go to a Fun! concert in LA

It’s just a split instant of video footage but Sarah Hyland uploads this to Vine and it does not look like Dianna is enjoying herself:

Note:  It kind of looks like DIanna has her arm around Taylor’s waist and also the person to the right of Taylor is Selby Drummond who is still friends with DIanna as of writing of this masterpost (December 2020) and who still appears to be a fan of Taylor’s.

Dianna does look miserable but I do think it’s interesting they seem to be making an effort to hang out on the two year anniversary of their public (perhaps private as well) first meeting.

September 6, 2013 - Taylor plays Speak Now as the surprise song on the Red tour.  Interesting given the timing of Dianna and her new boyfriend being public just one week before this.

September 8, 2013 - Taylor plays Sad, Beautiful Tragic for the first time ever live and gives this speech:

"I kind of feel like playing a song I've never ever played live before. This is um a song that I wrote about how you know just because something's over doesn't mean it wasn't incredibly beautiful. Cause another lesson I've learned is not all stories have a happy ending and you have to learn how to deal with that. So this is a song about a story that didn't end so happily but was still supposed to happen. This is called Sad, Beautiful, Tragic."

I don’t think this song was originally written about Dianna but I do think at this time while they stumble through the last phase of their relationship Taylor was inspired to sing it.

October 2013 - Taylor writes I Wish You Would, a song inspired by an ex who had recently bought a house near her driving past her house.  It’s thought to be about Harry but Harry didn’t buy a house in LA until March 2014.  But of course we know Dianna did buy a house near Taylor’s in LA earlier this fall.

November 11, 2013 - The music video for “She’s Just Another Girl” premiers starring Dianna looking stunning in high fashion drag, dressed up as the lead singer, and lip syncing the words to the song:

I think it’s at least possible that Dianna was drawn to this project because the lyrics resonated to her given what she was going through with Taylor at the time.

Conclusions - Swiftgron very clearly goes through a rough breakup due to being outed. 

Then they attempt some sort of reconciliation - even hanging out (date night?) on the second anniversary of their Fairfax Flea Market meetcute, but it goes wrong.  

Taylor is on tour for much of this time and Dianna is posting angst ridden and peculiar Instagram posts exactly at the time Taylor meets Karlie.

Kaylor Reunited?

Possibly due to all of the mess, as well as the existing issues we’ve discussed, Joshlie take a break again and Kaylor appears to reunite. We know this because Josh’s presence suddenly halts on Karlie’s socials, they don’t get seen together, and a fan account later mentions a Joshlie “reunion” which suggests this was discussed at the time. Kaylor cement their reunion with a trip to Nashville, which seems loud and out of character given the back and forth. This is also when Tay decides to pick up a beard, because she probably thinks they’re on for good and plans to write love songs for her luvah.

1 February 2015 - Karlie posts a pic of Taylor’s cat from Nashville - they seem to have travelled there together. This is the first time they’ve travelled together without Josh since the Big Sur trip in March 2014 - so it does seem fairly important.

2 February 2015 - Kaylor and Lily A watch the Superbowl in Nashville. Karlie posts a pic of the three of them together. 

13 February 2015 - Kaylor Kover Vogue. Karlie also posts about it on her Instagram, as does Ivanka. We could use Ivanka’s pic as evidence for Joshlie but I tend to think she’s a bit clueless when it comes to the complex dynamics involved and - importantly - she was also featured so it may have been her mostly punting herself. 

How do fashion fans and insiders respond? They’re pleased to see a model on the cover. They debate the legitimacy of the friendship. And some point out the uncanny similarities to a shoot with Poppy Delevingne and Alexa Chung. You’ve probably never heard of that other photo shoot but it did, indeed, come out months before and feature two real life besties on a “road trip”. Miranda Priestley is outchea calling the Kaylor spread: 

Let’s take a moment to consider two things about the setting of the Kaylor spread.  Firstly, as previously discussed, this shoot was a recycled idea already seen in a previous spread with Poppy Delevingne and Alexa Chung.  It’s sort of sad but in a way very telling that Kaylor didn’t have an original and romantic idea for their spread.  But secondly, the Kaylor shoot is just a rehash of the 2014 Big Sur trip (one of the few times it seems that Kaylor is exclusive and together and Josh isn’t in the picture.)  It’s possible they chose to recycle this setting precisely because it���s one of the few times that Kaylor was in a (more) simple romantic relationship and not in the throes of Joshlie and/or their complicated PR friendship/romantic entanglement/real friendship.

On that same day, Enty alleges that someone asked Karlie about Taylor at a party and Karlie supposedly had a very angry reaction to being questioned about Taylor. If Enty is right, that would support the idea that they really do seem to be together at this point in time - as in Karlie is protective over her private relationship with Taylor at this point in time (but of course always take Enty with a grain of salt)... And Karlie might not want to get outed. Because yeah, while most of the response is covered (kovered?) above, some fashion people are also saying they seem gay. They’re supportive (the fashion industry usually is) but given Karlie is - as we’ll show - still not over Josh this is kind of the last thing she’d need. 

14 February 2015 - Karlie posts a picture from the Vogue Kover and wishes Taylor a ‘happy Galentines day’.

15 February 2015 - Karlie does a super weird throwback to that Insta post Kevin posted way back when. This is an objectively weird way to wish someone Happy Valentine’s Day, a whole day after Valentine’s Day,and seems like she’s trying to quell the gay rumors that emerged from the kover. And let me tell you these rumors got loud. After the cover dropped, it’s all gossip and fashion blogs discussed. Well, that and if they were fake friends or not (as I’ve said above). Spoiler, I personally think both sides were right because I think they were initially a PR-geared friendship that not only turned real and genuine but also became romantic. 

16 February 2015 - Taylor cameos on SNL’s 40th anniversary. Karlie does a shout out for it. Karlie also promotes Vogue on GMA. Meanwhile, Dianna watches a ‘smug’ Karlie walk in NYFW. 

17 February 2015 - Kaylor attend an Oscar De La Renta show and Tay makes a weird comment saying “my publicist would get mad at me” if she explained why she was there. This is the clearest sign that Kaylor was back on. Also, this, along with the Riptide/Love Story compilation I discussed earlier suggests Taylor was more invested and reckless in this relationship, contrary to fandom lore. Given Karlie had pretty intense feelings for Josh, this is no surprise. It’s also supported by this recent deuxmoi blind - where supposedly the rumors bothered Taylor much less than they bothered Karlie. Again, we can’t go off of blinds alone, but given all we have seen from the timeline, that comment fits into a broader pattern.

18 February 2015 - Karlie posts a pic with Derek and Taylor from the front row at the Oscar De La Renta show.  Karlie also posts a pic of Taylor on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon talking about the Vogue cover (this is joint promo, so is hardly a surprise). Karlie also does her own promotion, talking to CBS about Taylor and Koding with Klossy.

20 February 2015 - Karlie promotes Vogue again and again. They’re pushing this out hard and absolutely NOT putting distance between each other as traditionally claimed in fandom during the post Kissgate period. There was no distance. They were loud.

24 February 2015 - Taylor attends Karlie’s Fund Fair and Karlie cops a feel. The Fund Fair - which Karlie is a co-host of - is circus themed (irrelevant but an interesting Dianna parallel for those of you invested in Swiftgron). This is the event that hardcore Kaylors say is where they apparently responded to seeing one another as though they had not seen each other in months, however they’d seen each other, publicly, the previous week so that idea is entirely inaccurate (as is the idea that Kaylor went underground due to Kissgate). There’s also an image of Kaylor potentially arguing from that night so it’s not that they were necessarily in a great place. This is supposedly where Taylor meets Calvin for the first time. Note the public meeting parallel… This often happens when Taylor is about to get loud and noisy with someone. This tells me she’s feeling serious about Karlie, if she’s looking to onboard a beard.

25 February 2015 - Kaylor attend the Brit Awards and the afterparty together. Gossip magazines claim she was seen flirting with Calvin here. This is the last time Kaylor is seen together publicly until June. NOW is when they go underground, because now they have something to hide. This is almost three months after Kissgate. 

26 February 2015 - Karlie posts about the Brits. She also posts a pic with Derek, Tay and Kim Kardashian which she captions “Two KKs a Tay and Bae”. It’s notable that she distinguished Tay from Bae even in a silly joking caption.

CONCLUSION: Kaylor is on in a real and romantic way. Karlie is supposedly snapping at someone at a party who asked her about Taylor. Taylor is saying weird stuff about her publicist when discussing why she’s at the same events as Karlie and Taylor is looking for a beard. Kaylor going underground here suggests that things are getting real, and, as Taylor had done with her previous relationship with Dianna, Taylor is going to try to hide it to keep it real.
