Don't get me wrong, i do love the ink sans defenders swad but i'll be real with everyone here, i'm not a fan of the constant sanitization that people make in regards to canon Ink. As if in order to defend his character, people need to say/prove that he's uterly incapable of being even slighty malicious (at best)

Okay now, everyone hear me out on this but canon Ink is an actual ass. That's right, he does fucking suck and is a jerk and a feelingless asshole (comyet's words) just like people says. Ink doesn't see other's as people, often flat out refuses to see things from perspectives other than his, takes pleasure in the suffering of genocidal timelines, sees the meaning of life itself to be just a fun game and depending on the perspective, he can be indeed seen as an evil mastermind or at least a villain (doesn't mean that he is btw! Things are more complex than that). But he does have a lot of good sides to his character! He's a extremly friendly gal who finds pleasure in making other's laugh/making other's happy and hell, he even made his whole purpose about helping and supporting other's in good and bad times! Think of a silly gal that i'll be besides you till your last breath, that's him!

What i am trying to say that Ink is a asshole BUT also very kind at the same time. The problem is that people eitheir only see his bad side or only acknowledge his 'good guy' moments. He's neither evil or good.

Also, i do think that Ink has antisocial personality disorder (a.k.a sociopathy) and no, that doesn't make him bad and the possibility of him being such shouldn't neither scare you.

As far as I know, the Au did belong to an artist, don’t know if it became community owned

Really love the Au, cool concept but very poor execution

I look at it and think “I can fix it”, it has such wasted potential it’s physically painful hcchchch

Like the amount you could explore with the concept of a swapped Dreamtale is endless, from how it could affect Nightmare, to how eating 999 apples could affect Dream, to endless possibilities of how their personalities could be like to how would Nightmare act in certain scenarios to what ultimate goal Swad is attempting to achieve to how each is faring in life

Hell you could literally explore how Nightmare would grow up to be like if he had never gotten corrupted, something we obviously don’t see in the og Dreamtale

Yet here we are with corrupted og Dreamtale Nightmare somehow being part of SD’s story (literally the story could do without him, Swap Nightmare is literally right there) and incest (unfortunately), and a Swad that’s reduced to a pervert for some reason??? And that’s all the entirety of the Au is reduced to, extremely tragic ain’t it?

Regardless, that’s why it’s fun to ignore canon and do whatever the fuck you want, that’s what I’m doing with SD, i’m portraying them the way i want

shittier doodle this time cuz Im getting tired but the ramblings are probably more unhinged

I dont have particularly strong feelings on dream so this is gonna be mostly younger swad and comparisons to dream when needed

-Views social interaction as inherently transactional and as a game that he can learn to play (he doesnt realise that in the village he was never going to be a player on equal ground, this is why after his ascension his persona is more deity ified rather than a king or smth like nm cuz he wants to be Above it all and in control.)

-Been obsessed with swan even as passives (His Duty to help people got drilled into him, the village feels entitled to his help and swad slowly grows tired of them, but his little brother is always kind to him and doing things for him feels so much more rewarding [tho eventually the village tries to stifle any attempts swad does to get something nice for his brother which frustrates swad so much and swan not asking for anything and just being happy to see him and trying so hard just to make swad happy, even as hes hurt fuels this.] so the mix of the sense of duty, him being the older brother so self imposing a sense of responsibility and swan being nice to him leads him to adopt a mentality where Swan is the only one whos special and actually cares about him not just what he can do for him, but with the way hes raised by the village he tries desperately to try and do something for swan in return cuz he still feels like hes failing in his part of the social bargain)

-Also the cult village placed sooooo much value on stuff like never being angry, always being happy :), youre not allowed to be mean, you Must be hardworking all the time, visibly showing that youre sad is Evil. And swad seethes constantly cuz no one in this fucking village follows that and the one person who embodies all these values the most is swan (who everyone still hates for reasons inexplicable to swad, who believes theres still a way to get swan out of his outcast status if the village just realises that swan is the kindest soul in this rotten place.)

-Dream maintains a more "child" status in the village even as hes older than when swad fights to "adult" status, seeing it as a way to get more social power cuz he picked up that Adults have more power than Children but lol not for him, he just gets to have more responsibilites, the expectation to cut off swan and no money OR gifts for his work cuz gifts are for children doing chores not working adults and since its both swads duty and the fact that he doesnt have anything to spend it on that wouldnt be spending it unwisely they just dont pay him at all! and also hes an object not an adult to them so rushing to try and be an adult backfired miserably

-Swad loves listening to swan read stories to him, reallly wants to be the Prince who saves the damsel and sets his enemies on fire and he projects that persona

-Both he and dream were taken hunting I think, but dream didnt take to it (he had a knack for archery but as soon as he was told to turn that arrow on an innocent bunny he couldnt do it, his more "child" status helps him get out of it) swad was also aprehensive at first but since he places a lot of importance in being the Older Brother and being responsible (also he wants to kill people) so he shoots the bunny, he feels bad and cries about it to swan but he cant let go of the feeling, the smell of blood, the idea of that being someone who hurt swan

-in my head he killed people already lol (used the hunting trips as cover but his hit list is soooooo long and he gets less and less opportunity...)

-he loves shiny things so much but being materialistic and greedy is one of the sins, swan cant get him anything but he does press little flower ornaments for his brother and so much flower jewlery so that swad can roleplay being a prince.

-he hates everyone soooooooo much <3

Based on my discussion with @fishfrypi about Template's hair....... He was the one to first bring up Cornrows and I fell in love guh...... Template's whole deal is that he tries way too hard to NOT be like Error so I think while Error would have wild and crazy afro-ish/dreads maybe (undecided) (hobo core) Template would have this to keep his hair somewhat contained.... (I like to imagine especially whenever Errors get mad/emotionally strong their hair puffs up like static electricity..... This is also a way for Template to keep his hair tucked down LMAO)

Erm so I did actually draw him but I'm not very confident in bald people yet. Anyways spoiler alert he's bald..... More specifically Alopecia Universalis

Yeagh guh..... I think he would wear out a lot of wigs because of this and draw on eyebrows and such. He's never wearing the same wig two days in a row and is always experimenting..... Little creature. They're my favourite.

I think he would wear all kinds of wigs!!! Bright & Bold vs Normal and inconspicuous... depends on how he's feeling!!! Hair is very much an expression of oneself, and Ink has some issues with that I think..... He's a bit disconnected from reality in a way, literally viewing everyone around him as "fictional characters." (I am NOT letting people forget this factoid it's literally my favourite thing about him. I love you Ink)

I think he changes a lot about himself depending on who he's talking to, minus possibly Error who he goes and harasses with all of his weirdness LMAO. And I think the wigs are a way of representing that almost!!! He's an ever changing ball of goo.

Also. The reason why Alopecia Universalis and not just general baldness.... His eyebrows. No hair. He has to draw them on. Eyebrows are probably the main visual way we communicate emotions. Ink has emotion issues. Yeah. I want to kill him too.

DREAMTALE TWINS

Yeah this is going in no particular order just how they pop up in my mind. Also lumping these two together for reasons that shall be explored in a minute.....

These two! My favourites. Twins twins twins..... I love to see them as identical so their hair shall be, too.

I imagine their hair would be brown and a bit curly/wavy..... Trust the process gamers.....

These queens make it seem like their hair is much more clean than it is but no it's probably very dirty covered in twigs and shit. Tree boys.

I'm stuck between how long it should be.... Since they're very young I imagine not that long... But as they get older and Dream and Nightmare drift apart, maybe their hair length changes/differs?

Dream with the villagers gets imposed with male hair standards so it gets cut short, meanwhile Nightmare is neglected (nobody touching stinky demon hair!) and his hair is left to grow long........ More difference in their hair shows their widening relationship oooooooh writing!!!!! Metaphor alert! Metaphor alert! SOS! SOS!

DREAM & SWAN

So yeah uh blatantly stealing the hair apple magic thing from This Post. Because it's a cool concept!!!!!!!!! What the hell!!!!!!!!!! They're my favourites!!!!!!!!

So I think Dream and Swan's hair would look very similar.... With possibly streaks of golden blonde/black respectively. Maybe if you were to really, really compare Swan's hair would be a bit more straight and Dream's more bouncy/curly. (I know I've drawn Swan with total pitch black hair before. But. That was then.... This is the Future....)

And length is where I stumble a bit again!!!!! Because I am. Quite literally obsessed with the idea of Positivity representing stasis/tranquility vs Negativity representing momentum/drive towards change (Both of which are important for a healthy individual!!! I think I should say this.)

However I really really want Swan to have long hair vs Dream having shorter hair. Remnants from their upbringing maybe?

But for Swan is seems less practical to be running around with a whole set of hair... I imagine it would be especially easy for Swad to swoop in and nap him by it, which makes even less sense for him to have it around.... guh

When I do draw him with longer hair I love to image he plats it like so. Keeps it all tucked away under his hood so no Bird man can come in and yoink him away (and leave an obvious patch of burnt hair where he touched it LMAO)

Dream having shorter hair at least makes a little sense in my view.... He keeps it short because its what he's used to... But I also really love the idea of him growing it longer in remembrance of Nightmare and their shared history. He's definitely not as crazy as Swad is about living Dreamtale again! And knows logically that he would never want to subject Night to the abuse that went on behind the scenes..... But he would still like to have his brother back to reconnect and to try and make up for all of it.

Probably something like this?? But more messy?????? Dream to me would seem like a very clean guy but actually is very disorganised and messy. He would roll around in dirt for fun if he could.

So I'm very stuck on their length..... Need to think about it some more. As for facial hair, I do like to think of the twins as generally clean shaven? Not that they shave per say but just don't grow facial hair LOL..... I am definitely not opposed to bearded twins though, I just need to see a beard design I actually like for them before I go fluffing them up HEHAHA.

Hmmm now that I'm actually seeing the hair styles I can actually see Swan wearing the short hair vs Dream with the long...... Maybe I just needed an image guh HEHEHEHE

SWAD

Swad..... My beloved...... My precious..... YOU'RE MY FAVOURITE did you know.

Swad hair I imagine is long as...... However in contrast to Dream's brown-golden hair it's just straight up pure blonde.... Glowing a little, too!!! Hell, I imagine it even floats a little around his shoulders like an aura, or halo of some kind.... ethereal LMAO (I could imagine him maybe with a few brown tips like his original hair colour, but they'd be very unnoticeable..... Maybe when the hair falls out it turns back into it's original colour gehehe)

This is where the twins' hair texture comes in a bit. Because I imagine apple transformative character design magic not just altering the hair colour, but also texture.... Where his hair was once maybe wavy, it's now fully curly.

I also like to imagine his hair is very very frizzy and heat damaged due to his general core temperature being off the charts.... It all curls around him, framing his face (egotist i hate him)

I don't view Swad as somebody who takes care of himself very well. He cares about his appearance, sure, but when actually practicing self care, he's kinda actually the worst.... HEHAHA. He lets his hair grow all long but that's okay because it all floats around him anyway. He doesn't wash it, but that's okay too because any bugs that try to inhabit his scalp instantly combust upon entering a 1m radius HEHAHA. I would be a little worried about sebum, but it's hard to tell.......

Reddit says not to try and evaporate the oils but only because it'll cause heat damage to your hair and skin.... Which wouldn't affect Sol in the first place HEHAHA (hottie!!) So it's hard to say really. Even if his hair was really oily I don't think it would be that noticeable, his hair already shines with or without oil HEHEHE.

NIGHTMARE

Nightmare. Now THIS One. He's my favourite.

Opposite of Swad time baby...... Where the twins' hair was kinda wavy, Swad's is more curly, Nightmare is dead straight..... Like a cloak.

I don't think it even behaves like hair anymore really. You could separate it, but it acts more like a cloak or window blind than actual hair. It sticks all together because of the slime.... Slimey man... His hair is literally "depressed" and flat lol

Like these two images, but DEFINITELY not as shiny...... It's very dull/matte, could definitely camouflage into the darkness/shadows if you didn't know what to expect. As dark and black as you can get with hair.

It's always Dreamtale where I get stuck on long vs short..... On one hand I think long would come a lot more naturally to Nightmare's whole design.... It makes him look less humanoid almost, hiding his form... On the other though, character-wise I could see him cutting it shorter.

I always thought of Nightmare Dreamtale to be a lot more.... royalty oriented than the others. Swad perceives himself as a God, sure, but Nightmare I think need to do little things to make himself feel better/"prove" he is in control of his life.... Him actually cutting it shorter in contrast to how he had his hair longer when he was younger (more weak and pathetic)..... I think it would be neat!!!! But sigh. ilu nightmare

Ramblings below (It's long, beware):

They're such an interesting dynamic i think, Swan(SD!Nightmare) has his brother chasing him... because Swad(SD!Dream) wants to capture him, with the justification of "keeping him safe" when really he's lonely and wants some semblance of comfort..

And to have his brother back of course. (Or if you're going for another route for which Swad kills Swan in order to eradicate the negavitity) Swan wants none of that and is constantly running from his brother. (While Swan does want to reconcile, he won't talk to the other when he(Swad) is so unstable)

DS!Night on the other hand, doesn't have a brother. He and Dream see each other as (ex-)childhood best friends (their own biological families unknown), and only called each other brother out of irony because people kept mistaking them as such when they were younger.

Dream still accidentally calls Lavender(i'm gonna keep calling him that instead of Nightmare) his brother sometimes, mostly out of habit, and it doesn't help with the assumptions either.

. . . . .

I wouldn't know how Swan and Lav would meet exactly... a rift in the multiverse would have to had happened...

Oh! Maybe when Swan was in the midst of running away from his brother, he accidentally (somehow) opened a portal to Dreamswap. Thus beginning his journey in the world.

Swan would feel weird, perhaps a bit suffocated with having so much positivity riddled in the air. DS!Dream would definitely feel the presence of another negative spirit. Maybe he would mistake it for Lav, that the other somehow got stronger, because Swan's aura is much more potent than Lav's i think.

(That's just a headcannon i have, with how soggy and sad people depict Swan to be as i'm sure that would affect his aura lmao, maybe not stronger as per say, but more.. idk bitter?)

Maybe with a bit of wandering around Swan wouldn't know that this was another "Dreamtale" universe just yet, lest he even knows the original universe even exist. I'm not sure whether Lav finds Swan first or Dream does..

I'm sure no good things come out of Dream meeting Swan, Dream would have to had sense the others negative aura, and vice versa. And DS!Dream's whole entire goal in life is to eradicate all of it (the negativity) so they would probably be at ends with each other.

I think if Swan weren't to meet Dream first, he'd find out about Lav either by seeing a wanted poster of the other or them bumping into each other, though not sure which scenario i prefer..

Their first interaction is going to be so awkward and existential... Like what do you mean there's another version of me out there in the universe with similar but vastly different experiences??

Maybe they'd be wary of each other the first few encounters, unsure of the others intentions, but maybe once Swan (or Lav) finds out that the other is being hunted down by their Dream's for one reason or another, they would probably warm up to each other.

Cue the bonding over "my brother wants to hunt me down (and probably kill me) because of his beliefs".

Swan is going to be like, "So your brother wants to hunt and capture you to eradicate negativity from the world too?",

and Lav would be, "Wdym, he isn't my brother, were not blood related. Also he wants me dead and labelled me as a criminal and has an entire organisation after me and my crew."

Swan: "He wants you dead? Also, your crew??" Lav: "Yeah?? You know, Cross and Error?" Swan: "Mr. Error is part of my Crew??" Lav: "Who the hell is 'Mr. Error'????"

Swan being bewildered at the thought of a group (more than one person!!) of people staying by his side despite knowing his nature, and Mr. Error is part of it too?!

Lav, concerned over the fact that Swan has no support system, or people he could rely on in his world, other than a oddly called Error (and why did the other called Error 'Mr'?? Is Error his boss or something??? Why is he so polite-).

Maybe even wondering if this would have happened to him if he had no one to rely on (seeing how troubled and exhausted Swan is) Maybe Lav would internally downplay how bad his situation is when comparing it to Swan's..

Maybe Swan would do the same, thinking what would happen if an entire organisation lead by Dream was trying to capture him. Being labelled a criminal by his own brother with the whole world to know...

I love them so much my gawd...

Lav: "You're brother seems... freaky... Swan: "What do you mean by that?" Lav: "Wdym what do i mean by that, look at him!!!" *Swan used to seeing his brother act that way*: "He looks just the same to me?" Lav: "He needs help." Swan: " " Swan: "I.. won't deny that..."

. . . . .

I think they'd change slowly over time.. influencing each other... Swan would start becoming more and more confident with himself, not only with the support of Lav but also Cross and Error (not Mr. Error, he has to remind himself) as he befriended them as well.

Growing less mellow, but still shy. You can't undo years of trauma after all, only heal from it. And sometimes the way you act has always been a part of you. Kinda just shows how different yet similar they are..

Lav started to care more about other people's feelings after the incident apple incident (after he gained the ability to sense other people's emotions), but became much more considerate after Swan came around.

He had learned to care for others when he had Cross and Error, but Swan was.. a bit different. Perhaps it was the fact they were so similar in regards to their own experiences, and know how each other feels more than they'd like to.

. . . . .

Their personalities contrast wildly, where as Swan is soft-spoken, timid and shy, Lav is much more outgoing than the other (even with both as introverts, i think Lav's technically an intovert?), reckless (maybe a bit impulsive) and playful.

It's odd to see each other within such similar situations to be and act so differently. Swan's personality probably reminds Lav a lot of himself before he met Cross and Error, before he had a shoulder to lean or cry on. He still struggles with sharing his deeper feelings with his friends, but Swad had no one to trust on for so long...

Their age difference would probably bring some whiplash to one another too lmao,

Lav: "YOUR OVER 500 YEARS OLD???" Swan: "124 years... huh, i thought you would be older..."

Even if they were the same age Lav would still probably be... well, Lav

. . . . .

Maybe they'll find comfort in each other, knowing what they've been through could never be related to the people they know but themselves and each other. Maybe they aren't so alone in their experiences in those regards, maybe they don't have to suffer by themselves.

They understand each other so much yet have such different perspectives of seeing it, with Lav having a more positive outlook for his future, hoping that Dream would finally listen to him and change his mind about how deals with criminals and how he views negativity in general.

Swan wants to reconcile and mend the relationship with his brother, but is pessimistic and less hopeful of such things coming to fruition. No matter how hard he tried to get the other to listen, it never seems to sway his brother's conviction and beliefs.

Actually, maybe thy both will be pessimistic about the outlook of their lives, but after meeting each other, they gain hope. Hope that things just might turn out okay. That no matter how bleak it all seems, it'll be okay.

As long as they have each other, they'll be fine.

Everything will be okay.

There’s something captivating about the idea of Swad being a songbird—angelic, with a voice like a one-man choir. Something about him being a terrible man with so many attractive qualities to draw people in unsuspecting... it’s such an alluring concept.

But I also love the idea of him being incredibly tone-deaf or just outright bad at singing, fitting his role as Dream’s opposite. Despite this, he fully believes he’s amazing at it because his followers and subjects constantly praise him. Thanks to his aura, they genuinely think everything about him is perfect—his voice included. Of course, Shattered and Dream aren’t swayed by his aura and can perceive him as his obnoxious self.

As for Shattered, I imagine he’s still adjusting to the new range in his Corrupted voice, which likely carries a darker and more intense tone than what he had as passive/normal Dream. The results probably vary depending on how comfortable he feels in the moment. That said, he’s had plenty of time to refine his singing, so I’d imagine he’s quite skilled—though his new, eldrich sound might catch him off guard.
