LOCAL WARMING is part of the show EIGENBEDARF
25. August – 1. September 2019 Uferhallen, Berlin-Wedding
The exhibition Eigenbedarf hopes to bring awareness to the dire room situation and the changing living and working conditions in the fabric of the city of Berlin by using artistic means, strategies and ideas. A growing paradox between the city's creative image and the changing situation of possibilities for realization of such efforts is palpable for artists of every genre. The Uferhallen site has been home to a unique and interdisciplinary community of studios, workshops and exhibition spaces for ten years. Since the selling of the majority of shares in 2017 people here also need to fear for their future. Eigenbedarf with its 65 artists introduces the venue Uferhallen with its unique possibilities due to size, networking and cooperation possibilites. It features works in the rear exhibition hall and wide parts of the outside area. A majority of the exhibiting artists work on site. Despite their collective effort and common goal to preserve their work space, they all have different perspectives, attitudes and artistic practices. This diversity will be revealed in the exhibition. Furthermore, works by external artists that also deal with topics pertaining to the situation will be included; i. e. work space, gentrification and city development.
