Dededark Matter

Day 1:

It was a normal day in Dreamland, with King Dedede waking up from a pleasant sleep he wishes he could replay - however, his royal duties need to be attended to, so he goes to the bathroom to prepare himself for the day.

It went as normal; Dedede did his necessities, took a bath and lastly went to brush his teeth.

Dedede suddenly realized that there was a black spot in one of his teeth, probably leftovers of his royal banquet yesterday, so he used his toothbrush to take care of that issue, since he didn’t want people to comment on it if he didn’t do this.

“...Huh?” The king took notice of the fact that no matter how much he brushed that part of his teeth, that black spot wasn’t going away.

“Are these cavities?” He asked himself. He tried to use more force to try and take that black spot away, but it only hurt his teeth the more he did it.

At the end, he left it like that, giving up, and thinking of possibly going to the dentist to figure out what that dark spot may be.

The day was as mundane as every other one, with some people commenting on the strange black spot on Dedede’s mouth, but besides some teasing from his closest friends, and some concern by some of his servants, no one paid it much attention, and just thought of it as something funny for the day.

Although, there were some strange reactions from some of his people - for example, Gooey, acting strangely whenever he was close to Dedede, hugging him more often, and most of the time, getting a little too attached to the king.

Nonetheless, he let it pass for the day.

The night suddenly came around and Dedede was already in bed, feeling a bit more exhausted than normal, but barely seemed to get any sort of sleep - it was odd, since he was always known for a laziness that would make him fall asleep at any possible second of the night.

Finally, he got some sleep, some restless sleep, that is.

Besides all of that, it was a normal day.

Day 2:

It was a normal day in Dreamland, with King Dedede waking up from a bad sleep he wished could never happen again - however, his royal duties need to be attended to, so he goes to the bathroom to prepare himself for the day.

It went as normal; Dedede did his necessities, took a bath and lastly went to brush his teeth.

The king realized that he was salivating more than usual, which was weird, he was feeling hungry, yes, but not to that degree. He opened his mouth in front of the mirror to see what was happening (not that he would’ve found something that impressive) and saw that something was amiss…

Not only were there more black spots around his teeth, but his saliva was slightly darker than usual.

“...W-What?” That was the only thing he could say at such a slightly bizarre scene, being somewhat befuddled as to what was actually happening - maybe he contracted some kind of disease? Since even he knew that this wasn’t normal.

It was then when he realized he was feeling more drowsy than usual, and with a slight headache. He knew he had to do something about it now, or else, he feared that whatever disease he had, it surely wasn’t good to leave it unchecked.

After a slow breakfast, trying to pretend that everything was fine, he secretly called a doctor in his room - he may have some strange illness, perhaps, but he thought he could handle this on his own, it’s not like he wanted to worry anybody.

The doctor came to the castle a couple of minutes after Dedede decided to call him, and quickly did inspections as to what was happening to him, but oddly enough, he didn’t seem to find the cause of the strange occurrences. Other than that though, the doctor gave Dedede some medicine, and some advice to rest in his castle for his headache to pass over time.

The Waddle Dees were eavesdropping on the conversation, and thinking that it might be for the best, decided to let the Star Allies know by tomorrow what was happening if the strange illness didn’t stop.

The night suddenly came around, and Dedede, yet again, got some restless sleep, although he was having a strange nightmare.

In his nightmares, Dedede seemed to be in a black, sticky ocean, as if swimming in tar, and no matter how long he swimmed, he couldn’t find any shore or land to stand on, so he had no choice than to let the tar-like substance to swallow him whole and drag him to the depths.

Dedede woke up the next morning with cold sweat, and some heavy breathing.

It wasn’t a good day.

Day 3:

He seemed to have catched a fever, because Dedede felt awful; there were bags under his eyes thanks to not sleeping well, and his movements were more sloppy and rigid than usual for Dreamland’s ruler, looking mostly like a puppet more than anything

Dedede was about to take a bath, but when he took off his robes, he noticed there were several black spots around his arms.

This obviously sent Dedede into a panic, not even bothering to take a bath or brush his teeth, and he managed to make enough ruckus that enough people in the castle also realized the odd situation the king was in.

The Waddle Dees thought that it was enough, so they called the Star Allies to see if they could think of something that could fix or cure their king.

Almost all of them came to see what was wrong, and immediately noticed the same thing at the same time - Dedede was without his robes, due to the high fever he was having, so people could clearly see the black spots around his arms.

“Jeez, what happened to you?! You look awful!” Daroach said in response, but not even daring to touch those black spots.

“I… I dunno…! One day I woke up and strange things started happening to me! I called a doctor to see what was going on but not even he was able to figure out what was tormenting me!” Dedede said in response, with a red face due to the fever.

“Have you taken medicine?” Meta Knight asked in a calming manner.

“Yeah, I have! But it only seems to be getting worse! I am too tired to try more stuff…”

Everyone was pitying Dedede, seeing their prideful king being sick would bring tears to anyone, especially if it’s such an odd sickness like his.

“Come on, let me try something.” Among the people who came, Susie was one of the few, and seemed to bring some medical equipment with her for the occasion in a bag, from where she pulled a small object; an empty syringe.

“Ah, no! You know I hate those!”

“Well, if we’re going to figure out what is happening to you, we might as well have some blood samples to see if it’s something we can fix!”

Dedede, with some hesitation, ended up offering himself for some blood samples, and Susie did what she needed to do and extracted some blood off him; even the blood itself had black spots, which seemed to confirm to everyone that this was extremely serious.

“Oh dear… Okay, we’ll need a couple of days to try and discern what might be happening, but until then, it’s probably recommended for Dedede to not go outside, or at the very least, not leave his side if he needs something - he clearly needs some rest, and probably more by just looking at the blood in this syringe…” Susie said, and the others seemed to oblige very faithfully.

From then on, they would take turns so they didn’t leave Dedede’s side, as Susie tried to investigate what could be causing his strange but fascinating illness.0

First, it’d be Kirby, Bandee and Meta, then the Animal Friends, Gooey and Marx, and then Magolor, Taranza and the Mage Sisters.

Dedede did not get out of the room that day, so the Waddle Dees had to bring him the food back to his bed - he couldn’t lie, he liked the idea of not even having to move a muscle to get what he wanted, but at the same time, he couldn’t enjoy the amount of comfort he was getting due to how weak he actually felt.

The night came around, and Dedede was unable to sleep an inch due to his fever, at least during the early hours of it - soon his eyes gave up and closed for the rest of the night.

Today, he had a very strange nightmare; eyes were looking at him from all directions in a black space, similar to the one of a box, and Dedede was curled up in one of the corner, unable to move and forced to look at all those eyes which were mocking him, taunting him for being so weak.

Dark whispers, with unintelligible words being displayed for Dedede to hear, and even though he shouldn’t understand them, he did, which made him feel worse - more alien.

It wasn’t a good night for him.

Day 4:

Dedede woke up in cold sweat, like before, but this time, his vision felt cloudy enough to be unable to discern his surroundings, and worst of it all, he felt an incredible pain that made him unable to even get out of bed.

“Ahhhhhhhhhh… Help… me…” Dedede said, trying to make someone hear him - Gladly enough, people were there, being Meta and Bandee, with Kirby being outside the room taking a look at the morning sky.

“Your Highness?- Oh, Nova!” Meta Knight expressed his clear horror upon seeing Dedede. The king couldn’t see how he looked but it was clear that he looked worse than yesterday.

His eyes now looked dead and dark, like the ones of a corpse, and his mouth was oozing with that strange black liquid - his body was covered in denser black spots, what not only covered most parts of his arms, but now his chest and belly were full of them, looking more and more like a gray penguin than the royal blue one he used to be.

Now, Dedede was incapable of moving a muscle, so Bandee, in sheer panic, called everyone back to his room, to see what they could do for him - Susie was still trying to see what was happening in her lab, so they needed to wait for her to finish her investigation, but the rest of the Star Allies did everything they could to treat him, all with varying degrees of failure.

“What are you doing?! We need to send him to a hospital!” Magolor said.

“What is that gonna accomplish?! Dedede can’t even move out of bed! Besides, he already called a doctor and nothing got resolved! He should stay here!” Flamberge followed, demanding for a better solution.

In the meantime, Francisca used her ice powers to keep Dedede’s temperature at bay, since by a glance, everyone and their mother could tell that Dedede had an extremely high temperature.

“We still need to do something! Calling a doctor again might at least give us some reassurance!” Bandee said after, with phone in hand to call a doctor. The rest let him do so in almost desperation, but knowing that this strange illness wasn’t probably gonna be cured with the help of a single doctor.

Indeed, when the doctor came, he said there was nothing he could do, saying that this was something he had never seen before.

Everyone then agreed that the best solution was for everyone to stay like last time, deciding to not even leave Dedede’s room - that’s how dire the situation was for everyone involved.

The night came around, with Dedede having an empty stomach due to refusing to even eat, due to the pain he was feeling. At the very least, he wasn’t alone…

“Meta…” He said, with Meta being awake and being beside him.

“Yes?” He answered.

“I don’t wanna die yet… Please… Do something… Please…”

“...” Dedede’s words seemed to hurt Meta the most - they were sworn partners, after all - it hurt for him to see his sworn partner like this.

“You won’t die, I assure you. We just need Susie to confirm your condition and we’ll take action…

“I… hope so…” Dedede said, closing his eyes, ever so slowly that Meta didn’t even notice until they were fully shut, and then, his breathing just…

“...Dedede…?”

Back at Susie’s place, she seemed to be investigating that blood sample Susie got from Dedede, taking all her day and night to finally get what was happening, but even then she got no answers.

“...This is… something I have never seen before, I think…? But why does it feel like I’ve seen this before?”

She said, walking back and forth, asking herself that question, until she found something on her table.

“...Oh, I remember these… These were… wait…” She was looking at those Dark Matter Swordsman Clone blueprints back when Haltmann was still alive. Could it be that she figured out something just by looking at these?

“...Oh… Oh no.”

Susie rushed back to the castle and Dedede’s room, but when she was about to open the door, she realized that there was a sound coming from the other side - sobbing.

Susie opened the door, and saw everyone in the room, crying… Well… everyone but Dedede.

“What happened here?!” Susie said, while everyone was not even looking at her, they were just crying uncontrollably, from the kids to the adults - it was a bizarre scene.

Where was Dedede, though? The only thing Susie could see of him were his robes on the bed being held by a crying Meta, along with a clump of black goo slumped on it, lifeless.
