The Efficacy of Cloth Masks Against the Omicron Variant
About cloth masks and their efficacy against the Omicron variant, it's essential to consider some key points. While cloth masks do provide a degree of protection against respiratory viruses like Omicron, it's important to acknowledge that their effectiveness might vary given the unique characteristics of this variant. Omicron's heightened transmissibility raises concerns about the ability of cloth masks to fully prevent the spread of smaller particles.
Tumblr media
When opting for cloth masks, experts recommend prioritizing those with multiple layers, constructed from tightly woven materials. However, in high-risk scenarios, it's prudent to explore alternatives such as surgical masks or N95 respirators for more robust protection.
For those seeking reliable surgical face masks, Myindicare emerges as a notable option. As a reputable surgical face mask manufacturer in Sodepur, Kolkata, they offer a selection of quality masks designed to meet safety standards and provide an elevated level of protection.
Ultimately, it's important to remember that a comprehensive approach, including vaccination, maintaining distance, and adhering to proper hand hygiene, remains pivotal in curbing the spread of not just Omicron, but any respiratory variant.

You won't see me posting any "news" about covid "dropping" to the 10th most common cause of death (Still a BAD THING) because I understand that
1. Not listing covid as a cause of death was causing statistical issues *BEFORE* when covid was still ranked no. 3
2. Hospitals haven't been required to report *any* covid data since February, artificially decreasing reporting in general.
3. Remember how "with or from covid" was a literal fascist talking point for all of 2020-2022? Why is it an acceptable variable all of a sudden? Has something changed about the Overton window, perhaps?
lying with statistics is incredibly common, and I'm not surprised, but I also won't be talking about those lies except for this post. Deaths from long covid have skyrocketed (and seldom labeled long covid on a death cert), and that is a death *from* covid even if it wasn't acute covid. This useless bickering is just manufacturing consent for constant mass-infection and death. We could have a better world. All we have to do is cover our faces to stop the spread. Studies have shown that even just 80% of people wearing a baggy blue surgical mask in public would decrease covid spread by nearly 97%. Whatever happened to "flatten the curve"?

There is more COVID-19 transmission today (January 2024) than during 94.7% of the pandemic.
💉 Please get the updated (new, not a booster) Covid vaccine. If you're in the US, ask your local pharmacy about the Bridge Access Program for free vaccines. You can also search vaccines.gov then select Bridge Access Program participant.
If you do not want an mRNA vaccine for whatever reason, consider Novavax: it is protein-based like other typical vaccines from the last few decades, and many (including myself) report minimal side effects. Talk to your doctor if you have questions or concerns.
😷 Wear a mask in public and/or any enclosed areas. "Mask" means a respirator of KN95/N95 filtration or higher, not a cloth or surgical (blue) mask. Covid is airborne, so an airtight seal and particulate filter is necessary for protection. Different kinds of respirators are used for everything from toxic fumes to asbestos removal; when worn properly, they greatly reduce risk.
Here is a guide for proper use and fitting of a respiratory mask.
Here is a short video by 3M (respirator manufacturer) on the importance of fit-testing.
🧪 Have tests ready. With the new variants it can sometimes take 5-8 days to test positive, so be sure to test twice, 48 hours apart. If you're in the US, you can get 4 free rapid tests sent to your home through USPS. Local schools and libraries also may have free rapid tests. If you qualify for the Test to Treat program, you can receive free at-home NAAT tests and treatment for both flu AND Covid, and access to telehealth. The earlier you test positive, the more likely you will be eligible for treatment with Paxlovid.
🔁 If you can afford it, air purifiers and HEPA filters can help reduce transmission. Making a Corsi-Rosenthal box is simple and inexpensive. If weather permits, keeping windows open helps. Ventilation allows fresh air to circulate.
👃 Nasal sprays and CPC mouthwash are other useful prophylactic measures when used in conjunction with PPE and other modes of mitigation like masking and distancing.
🚬There is still a risk of Covid when outside, similar to exposure from secondhand smoke or a fire. Since Covid is spread through aerosols, it can hang in the air like smoke.
🐶 As with other coronaviruses, many household pets can get Covid. If you have been exposed, avoid contact with animals.
"But I'm not old or weak. Why should I care?"
☣ Covid can still kill you or disable you for life, even if your initial sickness is "mild". Even if you are young and have no preexisting conditions. 90% of the original "long haulers" had "mild" cases.
🩺 Covid increases your risk of stroke, blood clots, and heart disease by 2 to 5 times within a year of infection. It can also cause brain damage, which is part of the loss of taste and smell and cognitive symptoms like brain fog.
🩸 Covid is able to infect multiple organ systems because it travels through the bloodstream and attacks the mitochondria, leading to dysfunction and chronic fatigue.
⚠ Reinfection doesn't make your body better at fighting Covid; it just does more damage to your immune system, akin to HIV. A damaged immune system is worse at fighting off illness, more susceptible to infection, and can lead to serious complications like pneumonia. And with every reinfection, your chances of developing Long Covid increase. Therefore, the best protection for your immune system is to avoid getting Covid as much as possible.
I know everyone is tired of this. But if there was any time to be vigilant, it is now. Please, let's protect each other.

Happy Happy Birthday @ladydanitar! Couldn't let the day end without giving you a little spice
Summary: Touching her face, Kagome made sure her mask was still intact. It wouldn't hide her identity from anyone who knew her, but she could count the number of people who did on one hand. She was on a personal mission tonight, at the behest of her host, though now she was wondering why she had been sent up here in the first place.
Read it on Ao3 and FFnet.
Sneak Peek
Contrary to his mother, Sesshoumaru spent no time in the spotlight. He preferred to work behind the scenes, even though his name was just as well-known. Being the top manufacturer of surgical equipment would do that.
Kagome bit her tongue as she closed the door behind her, letting her eyes adjust to the darkened room. There wasn't much to see, and since she couldn't sense him anywhere near, she took a chance and turned on the lamp on his bedside table. She blinked a few times, expression softening at what she found.
She'd expected it to be as white and bland as his haori back during their fight against Naraku, but instead, she found lush furniture in rich colours. A burgundy armchair was in the corner, a book on top of a pair of pants hung over the back, split down the middle in a makeshift bookmark. She crept closer, stifling a laugh when she realized it was filled with fairy tales.
So the tech mogul was into princesses and happy endings, was he? How interesting. Taking care not to lose his place, she thumbed through the chapters. She'd thought it might belong to one of his nieces, but though the pages were worn, the book was well taken care of and a first edition. She'd have to ask him which story was his favourite at the next family reunion.
Returning the book to its place, she wandered around the room. Her fingers dragged along a dark blue comforter, the edges tucked into the side of the bed, not a wrinkle in sight. Unable to stop herself, she jumped onto it, pulling it from under the pillows. He'd know it was her from her aura and scent, so she wasn't worried that he'd blame his mother's security for allowing a stranger to slip past their guard.

A reminder of how interconnected everything is to everything.
All our phones and other modern electronics depend on quartz mined in a now devestated single small town in Appalachia.
Link to info:
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTFAuEyJh/
Electronics manufacturing worldwide will be affected .
Much like we had to buy masks during Covid from China because Hurricane Maria wiped out the US plants for manufacturing surgical supplies which had all moved to Puerto Rico because, y’know, cheap labor.

Army Swap AU: 8D8
In a galaxy where the Confederacy of Independent Systems went super into biotech instead of mass industrialisation, and the Jedi’s secret deal with the Kaminoans fell through so they had to create a different army, the Republic soldiers are droids and the Separatist soldiers are clones.
We found a weird guy in the basement blowtorching people to death. He’s our receptionist now.
Following the collapse of the Separatist movement and the isolation of the Outer Rim from the rest of the galaxy, the demand for clone soldiers also collapsed, leading to clone manufacturers unloading their remaining stock with no cyborg modifications or education anywhere they can, usually for cheap manual labor. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to find one of these unfortunate beings under Jabba’s service.
Alternatively, 8D8 is a natural-born Muun who ended up in a Man in the Iron Mask type situation. It’s a mystery!
Regardless, a Muun majordomo instantly lends an air of refinement and luxury to any establishment. Naturally, there are rumors that 8D8 is in fact a retired IG-88 with severe scarring from surgical removal of cybernetic implants. Boba isn’t sure either and he’s just going along with any clout advantage he has.
IG-88 died raiding the second Death Star, but he doesn’t know that.
Reinterpreting 8D8′s intricate joints as silk cording is one of the best design ideas I ever had because:
Fancy
Sharp geometric lines in a droid vs. organic flowing lines in a living being
Looks like embroidered matador pants, tying back to his violent past

As a Big Nose Haver the only point in the pandemic where I could force a mask to actually fit my face was the period of time when we were told that cloth masks were sufficient to keep you safe. A thin cloth mask that had an adjustable wire in the nose bridge could usually be manipulated to create a proper seal around my face. However, N95 masks and even most surgical masks are too stiff for this and/or the adjustable wire is not stiff ENOUGH and goes back to its original shape after you try to bend it.
Thus, it’s 2023 and I still look like a fucking idiot who doesn’t know how to wear a mask, since whenever I do wear a mask it visibly fogs up my glasses since I physically cannot make it seal properly. Aside from making me feel like an idiot it’s also, you know, just a wee bit hazardous and partially defeats the purpose of wearing a mask!!!!!!!
What’s a boy to do?? Use double-sided tape on my face? Wear an astronaut helmet??
I’m just really frustrated. It seems super obvious to me that someone having a slightly bigger or smaller nose than average is not an excuse to not manufacture masks that fit them. And I’ve just been miserable for like two months and counting bc of pollen and now I keep getting sick because of poor air quality and I’m just getting tired of only being *partially* protected.
I’m looking for alternatives now but even if these work, they’re more expensive than regular masks, which pisses me off even more. Here’s a rhetorical math problem: How many specialty masks would I have to buy over the course of my life before it would genuinely just be cheaper to pay a surgeon to make my nose look like everybody else’s?
