Also one more tonight, but it’s more serious. Based off my Zarc headcanon.

Zarc has two major fears. One is atychiphobia, the fear of failure. He hates losing because he lost too much in life. He buffs up his defense and makes his ace overpowered, so that nobody can defeat him. He reaches godhood so that he would never lose again like he did time and time again as a frail, powerless human.

The other is pisanthrophobia: the fear of trusting others. He trusted too much in the past. And he got hurt. Badly. He set up walls around his heart. He made sure they were high enough to prevent anyone from climbing. He pushed people away so that he can never be hurt again.

His ace card is his lifeline. The logical consequence of becoming a Duel Monster spirit, even one with god-like power. If it’s damaged, so is he. If it’s ripped apart or damaged in some way, that’s it for his soul. He would be gone for good.

Someone once exploited that weakness and took his card, leaving him terrified. Fearing death at any moment. Becoming even more closed off. Held hostage. And eventually left injured.

Yet she, his worst enemy, the one who split his soul into pieces, the one who should despise his guts above all else…saved it from destruction and gave it back to him. Carefully. Without any marks.

He pushed her away before out of fear. She hurt him once, and it tormented him for years. So why…

“You had every chance to get rid of me forever, yet you didn’t. You saved my heart. I don’t understand…don’t you hate me?”

“I never hated you.”

Honestly as bad as Zarc's dub voice is and the memetic "What?" I do like Zarc's dub dialogues, the one-liners, the trash talk, the comebacks, the jokes, the sheer confidence and "I'm the boss" energy he commands is amazing, definitely what I expected from him.

Mid-way through designing a fan monster for AU reasons, and I end up realising that the yuboys die due to Zarc-related complications in the exact order needed for the process to create a philosopher's stone (assuming you see Yuuri and Yuuya dying to one another simultaneously)

At long last, the night of her inheritance ball had arrived. Ray had been eagerly awaiting this day for as long as she could remember, the day she would officially take over for her father as the head of the Akaba House. All those hours studying in the library, attending her father’s meetings, and gaining a high reputation in society had been preparing her for this moment. This was her night, and Ray was going to shine like a star.

At least...that was what should have happened.

The start of the party went as planned, her and her siblings all being formally introduced and escorted by their retainers into the ballroom. The eldest Akaba truly stood out from the rest based on appearance alone. Her usual twin pigtails had now been curled at the ends, all while sporting a lavender gown with blue flowers, jewels, and beads adorning it star-like patterns. Of course, her signature emerald hair pieces remained as well. One couldn’t exactly risk Zarc throwing a tantrum on a night like this, even if he had seemed to lighten up as of late. 

In fact, he even accepted Ray’s offer to partake in a dance, the two becoming the center of attention inside the large space. Dancing had been something she didn’t necessarily have a preference for, certainly not to the extent of her sister Serena. Though, the smile on her face as her and Zarc glided across the marble floor was plain to see. It was nice to have a person she actually wanted to dance with for once, and not some snob who clearly had no respect for her or just wanted to get close enough to her to get her fortune. 

“You’re not half bad at this, you know.” A rare compliment for her, but one she thought he honestly deserved. Zarc had really changed for the better in the past few weeks after finally listening to her. He became...pleasant to be around to the point where she didn’t like when he wasn’t around, a sentiment shared by her sisters with Zarc’s little brothers. While the situation that brought them together was not ideal to be certain, the results of it have seemingly made their lives better in some respect.

Oh how ignorant they all were...

Lavender hues shift then as Zarc suddenly lets go of her hand, the other moving away to go somwhere else without saying a word. What was going on Ray wondered? Did Zarc see something and went to investigate? Before she can ponder the thought any further, the voice of her father suddenly drags the attention of everyone in the room. 

“I thank you all for coming here tonight in celebration of my daughter, the crown jewel of our family...Ray. She is truly the pinnacle of perfection, succeeding every expectation placed on her. As her father, I could not be more proud. 

Tonight she has come of age, meaning she is able to now accept her inheritance and place as the head of the Akaba House.

However...I do not think she is ready for such a thing as of yet. She has learned much, grown much, but still has areas she needs to improve at and master before she can taken on such an important position. Thus, until I deem Ray Akaba capable of inheriting her birthright, I will remain the head of the Akaba House. 

I hope you enjoy the rest of the evening festivities, and thank you all once again for coming.”

The entire room is silent as Leo Akaba stepped away, all eyes shifting towards Ray who was now standing in the center of the dance floor alone to face the people who had all come to this party to see her step up. This...This couldn’t be happening...right? 

For the first time in her life, she had been left speechless. 

For the first time in her life, she felt...an anger bubble in her chest towards her father, who she loved more than anyone. 

For the first time in her life, her confidence had been shattered into a million pieces with a threat of never being able to put herself together again...

Ray...Ray didn’t know what to do as she stood there alone, her siblings and retainer out of reach of her. Ray thought she was one who could handle being on her own just fine. She wasn’t exactly the most social person, much like Reiji and Serena, and had often spent most of her time on her own doing as she pleased until...until..

Zarc.

“Zarc...Why...Why did you have to leave? Where...Where did you go? And why...why do I want you here next to me? To...hold me in your arms? I don’t....I don’t understand...”

The confused, hurt, and overwhelmed young lady then decides to search for Zarc, moving with purpose through the crowds to try and find where that lizard breath went. She...She needed him right now, needed him more than she’s needed anyone else in her life, even if she doesn’t fully get why.

Little did she know her night was going to get a lot worse when she does eventually find him, and hear what he had to say...

Jaden and Yuya are now my favorite dynamic of all time, and now that I’m being shown the similarities I’m wondering if it’s really just a coincidence GX and Arc-V are my absolute favorites out of all the Yugioh series this is insane 👀

(Uh. This got long so it's going beneath the cut for the sake of people's dashboards)

Well, first off, there's just a lot of similarities between Zarc (the original Zarc, before he split into the Yu-bois) and Jaden. Both can talk to duel spirits, both start out chipper and are driven to the edge by grief, both split into various personas/people (Jaden with himself and the supreme king, Zarc obviously into the Yu-bois), both fuse with their ace monster(s), and both carry the title of "Supreme King". Most interesting, to me at least, is how both shape a lot of their identities around what they think people want from them.

Zarc was content to be an amazing duelist, but felt pressured to put on a good show, to be more brutal. Jaden, more subtly, constructs most of his personality off being easygoing, chill, and carefree, because he internalized that his emotions are dangerous, and people would rather deal with happy Jaden than the emotional disregulation mess that he actually is.

And both of them, when they get overwhelmed, adopt a mentality of "Well, the world might as well burn with me."

Jaden, rather than feel his grief, locks off his own trauma behind a brick wall and goes on smiling. Yuya, rather than deal with his dads disappearance, does the same.

I'd also like it noted that supreme king Jaden and supreme king Yuya have yellow eyes.

And some teal/orange eye asymmetry

Honestly, even dragon form Yuya and the Supreme Kings armor have similar silhouettes.

Mostly its in the spikes on the shoulders and elbows, and the fact that Zarc Yuya forms a weird chestplate (and that this is the same art team and visual style)

Another thing I get hung up on is that both Jaden and Yuri have super poly. In GX, Jaden had to go through an entire arc of misery to get that card, and Yuri just? Has it?

So my little headcanon, is that in the original timeline, before the dimensions were split, Zarc had the spirit of The Supreme King, able to command duel monsters and wield The Gentle Dark. Unfortunately for everyone, he got a teensy bit traumatized before he could enact his destiny of defeating The Light Of Destruction. Using his powers, he fused with his dragons, nearly destroyed the world, etc, etc. When he split, the Supreme King couldn't just split into four the same way the rest of his soul could, and so while the dimensions split, the past was rewritten to attach the power to a different soul, with a different guardian to boot. Similar to how the timeline got all borked to set everything back to a late nineties world of duel monsters.

Which would make Yuya 1/4 of an alternate universe version of Jaden. And I think there's a lot of fun to be had with that idea :)

Which yugioh series you watched and what do you think of each of them?

I’ve only finished GX and Arc V.

I love them both. I’d say GX is my favourite because I feel Arc v’s decision to make Zarc the big bad instead of Leo is so bizzare.

Along with his inconsistent characterisation. At one point he’s a normal happy kid that can hear the dragons. And next he’s a monster who purposely tried to kill destroy the world.

Arc V’s ending is just wiped from my brain.

Their both fun shows with interesting darker themes and while they can be messy at times their both s lot of fun.

And I love Yuya and Judai/Jaden very much as characters. I love a good ol good guy gets corrupted and is saved by the people he saved.

I love the journeys Judai/Jaden and Yuya go through and how their love for dueling is tested. I love the side characters, people like Shun/Shay and Johan/Jesse are really interesting

Lot of other characters really needed fleshing out tho…

Somehow both of these shows contain Edo/Aster Phoenix joining a cult.

My favourite arc in Arc V is probably the Friendship Cup and my favourite duel is probably Sora Vs Shun.

My favourite arc in GX is probably the Supreme King Arc and my favourite duel is probably Judai vs Professor Cobra.

I have watched like maybe partway through Yugioh 5ds and a wee bit of OG Yugioh. But that was years ago and I don’t remember em much so can’t really say.

If Odd-Eyes Arcray Dragon had an anime counterpart that's just as cracked as the original Z-ARC (meaning it's Fusion/Synchro/XYZ/Pendulum at the same time and has like a trillion effects) what do you think it's effects would be?

I think if people built Pend Magicians (with a side of Performapal, Odd Eyes, and whatever additions you think are funny i.e. Hallohallo for an additional tuner option) and duelled eachother in a race to get to Zarc first, I think they'd maybe enjoy Pendulum more.
