Shadows of Destiny (Kai x Reader)
I hope you enjoy the story <3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jo and Alaric were having a happy, celebratory wedding surrounded by loved ones. Everyone involved desired a fresh start and a peaceful moment. However, tranquility proved to be fragile and easily disrupted.
With wrath and resentment in his eyes, Kai Parker dashed into the ceremony. He launched his strike before the Gemini Coven could respond, with magic sparking through the air.
Trying to escape the lethal energy bursts, guests shrieked and dispersed. His twin, Jo, eyes wide with shock and resolve, stood her ground. Shaking, she begged, "Kai, stop this! Why are you doing this?!"
But Kai had no brotherly affection in his distorted smile. Ignoring Jo, he said, "You should know by now. I never quit on what I started."
As he lifted his hand to cast another attack, the hall doors flung open. Y/N staggered in with her gaze fixed on Kai, bruised, and worn out. Her willpower, pushing her on despite the agony, had allowed her to break free from her restraints.
She cried, "Kai!" as she hurried herself between him and Jo, "Enough already!"
As Kai saw Y/N, he paused, his gaze closing in. In a low, and deadly tone he muttered, "You… How come you were free?"
Y/N sprang for him, attempting to throw him off balance before he could react. Kai moved more quickly. With his power blazing, he turned and launched her across the room with his magic. Y/N flew into tables strewn across the floor. She flew so hard into them that her lungs were afflicted with formidable force and coughed up blood. All bloods were stained on her clothes.
Y/N’s besties Elena and Caroline raced to her aid, "No, Y/N!"
Fearful, Caroline sobbed, “Don’t die on us, please.”
Damon, who had developed a close bond with Y/N during their time in the Prison World, stepped closer and unleashed a torrent of anger. He yelled, "You messed with the wrong person, Kai."
Kai had little time to react when Damon tackled him, but with a flick of his wrist, he sent Damon hurling across the room and into a set of chairs.
“Damon, get out of here!” Kai yelled, “This is between me and the rest of the others.”
With a sneer on his lips, Damon got up to his feet. He spat, "Like hell it is," but Elena held his arm and stopped him before he could strike again.
“Damon, no,” she cried out, “You are going to make things worse.”
As he watched them, Kai's face faltered, something flickering in his eyes when his gaze turned to Y/N.
"Y/N, you shouldn't have come here," he added in a near whisper, “You should have stayed away.”
Y/N clung to her side as she staggered to her feet, "I could never let you do this," she exclaimed, "You're not a monster, Kai. There is no need to do this.”
Kai's fists shook with hardly controlled power, his mouth tightening.
"You persist in defying me even after I provided you with the chance to behave properly!" This was mostly targeted at his coven members, especially the former Gemini coven leader, Joshua Parker. He spat, "You must be so desperate to die." Fearful, the guests crowded together.
Elena moved forward, her face resolute. Despite the chaos surrounding her, Elena uttered firmly, "Please, Kai. Do not do this. Let everyone go.”
Kai's hold on his power became stronger, and for a split second, it appeared as though he would let loose everything. But Y/N's shaky voice broke the strain.
She whispered, "Kai," as she fixes her gaze on him, “Avoid turning into the monster they believe you are.”
He looked at her, his face tense between wrath and something else… something… human.
"You don't understand," he continued, his voice trembling, “I have to finish this. This is the only option."
Ignoring her wounds, Y/N protested, "No, it's not," and moved closer, “You are free to take another course. We can work out another solution together."
Kai's gaze wavered, and the fury gradually faded. His voice hardly rose above a whisper, "I don't know if I can," he murmured.
Stretching out her hands to him, Y/N said, "You can. You do not have to be alone.”
The guests' labored breathing in the entire room was the sole sound for a long, anxious time. Then, very gradually, the enchantment at Kai's fingertips vanished. With his face tense, he lowered his hand.
"You should be thankful," he says at last directed towards his coven, breaking the silence in the room, his voice breaking, “You get to live another day.”
Kai turned to go, but as he saw Y/N's strength waning, he hurried to her side, and lifted her into his arms. The guests watched in horror as Kai carried Y/N away; her blood smeared his clothing. Her eyes opened, a mixture of relief and bewilderment meeting his. Weakly whispering, "Kai, what are you doing?"
"Saving you," he said, sounding almost compassionate now, "Y/N, I can’t lose you. No, not in this way."
Kai disappeared, dragging Y/N into the unknown after one last, conflicted look at Elena, Caroline, and Damon.
______________________________________________________________
As night descended, remorse swept over Y/N. She would never have let Kai leave if she had known what Bonnie, Damon, and Elena were up to. Their plan was to trick Kai and keep him in another prison world. She had not acted on her intuition that something was amiss. She heard bits of their talk, their low voices, and their hurried murmurs just before Kai and the others went to the prison world where the Heretics were imprisoned. She disregarded her inner intuition, convinced that they were acting morally. She wished she had done something—anything—to stop this chaos made by Kai.
"I'm sorry, Kai," she said in a regretful and painful whisper, "I should have known. I should have stopped them."
“It's too late for that now,” he said, “Maybe, though, we can work things out together.”
The darkness drew closer, and Y/N nodded feebly. She held onto the belief that there was someplace, someway, a chance to put things right, to keep Kai from the darkness that threatened to swallow him, and to keep herself from the sorrow that was eating at her.
Mike D'Angelo: The Unexpected Hero of Until Dawn
Just finished playing Until Dawn again, and I can’t help but talk about Mike! 🌲💔 At first, he seems like your typical jock character, but as the story unfolds, he transforms into one of the most layered and resilient characters in the game.
His leadership when the group faces danger shows just how far he’s willing to go for his friends. Plus, his complex relationship with Jess brings depth to his character—it's heart-wrenching to see what happens as the night goes on 😢.
Mike balances bravery with vulnerability; he has some of the most intense moments in the game, especially during those heart-pounding chase sequences. And can we talk about how he interacts with the supernatural events? His character development is honestly one of the highlights of the experience!
Whether he’s showcasing his resourcefulness or confronting his own fears, Mike proves that sometimes the hero is the one who rises to the occasion—even amidst chaos.
What are your thoughts on him? Did he survive your playthrough? 🎮✨
The Forest's Secrets Shaina Tranquilino October 22, 2024
Tom had heard the rumours about Sherwood Forest, but like any seasoned hiker, he brushed them off as local folklore. Strange disappearances, eerie whispers, and shadows that moved without reason were nothing but tales spun to keep thrill-seekers away. The challenge of navigating its dense, untamed wilderness was too tempting to resist. So, on a chilly October morning, he packed his gear and ventured into the heart of the forest, ignoring the warnings that echoed in the back of his mind.
The first few hours were peaceful. The golden light of the rising sun filtered through the canopy, casting playful shadows on the forest floor. Birds chirped, and the soft crunch of fallen leaves beneath his boots set a rhythmic, almost calming pace. Tom reveled in the solitude. The trail was faint, nearly overgrown in places, but his instincts were sharp. He’d always had a good sense of direction, or so he thought.
As the sun climbed higher, the forest began to change. The trees grew taller, their trunks darker, their branches intertwining like gnarled, skeletal fingers. The air felt heavier, damp with the scent of moss and decay. The birdsong that had accompanied him earlier faded, replaced by an unsettling silence.
Tom checked his map and compass, frowning. The trail should have led him to a clearing by now, but he was still deep in the thick of the forest. He scanned the area, turning in slow circles, but the path had vanished, swallowed by the ever-thickening underbrush. A creeping sense of unease gnawed at him, but he shook it off. He’d been in trickier situations before.
He decided to backtrack, retracing his steps, but with every turn, the landscape seemed to shift. Trees that should have been familiar looked different, older, almost watchful. The sunlight, once warm and inviting, dimmed, casting the forest in a cold, blue twilight. Tom’s breath quickened. The forest was disorienting him, twisting his sense of direction. He was lost.
Panic began to set in as the day dragged on. He moved faster, trying to find any sign of the trail, but no matter how far he walked, the trees closed in tighter, their branches hanging low, blocking out the sky. The silence around him grew oppressive, pressing down on his chest until it was hard to breathe.
That’s when he heard it. A faint whisper, barely audible, carried on the wind.
“...this way...”
Tom froze. He scanned the trees, searching for the source of the voice, but there was no one. He was alone. His heart pounded in his ears.
“...this way...”
It was closer now, clearer, as if the voice was speaking directly into his mind. His skin prickled with cold sweat. He shook his head, trying to dismiss it as a trick of exhaustion. But the whisper persisted, beckoning him deeper into the forest.
“Come closer…”
Against his better judgment, Tom followed the voice. His legs moved without him fully willing them to, as if some invisible force was pulling him forward. The trees seemed to lean in closer, their bark etched with strange, twisted shapes. Faces, maybe. He wasn’t sure. He didn’t want to look too closely.
The voice led him to a small clearing, barely more than a patch of dirt surrounded by trees that loomed like sentinels. In the centre stood a massive, ancient oak, its trunk blackened and split as though struck by lightning. The whispers grew louder, overlapping in a cacophony of unintelligible words, except for one, repeated over and over again.
“Escape.”
Tom staggered forward, drawn to the tree. At its base was a hollow, wide enough for him to crawl into. The whispers urged him closer, promising safety, freedom, a way out. But deep in his gut, he knew something was terribly wrong. His instincts screamed at him to turn back, to run. Yet he couldn’t move. His body betrayed him, inching toward the hollow.
As he stood before the tree, the whispers stopped abruptly, replaced by a deafening silence. The forest held its breath, as if waiting for him to make his choice.
Then, from within the hollow, something shifted. A pair of eyes — too large, too dark — blinked open, staring at him from the abyss. The stench of rot wafted from the tree, cloying and thick. A voice, deeper and more menacing than before, rumbled from the hollow.
"Give yourself, and you may leave."
Tom’s stomach lurched. He stumbled back, but the forest wouldn’t let him go. The branches above rustled, though there was no wind, and the shadows beneath the trees stretched toward him like grasping hands. He was trapped.
“What do you want?” he whispered, his voice trembling.
The creature in the tree blinked, slowly, deliberately. “A soul for the forest. Your soul.”
Tom's mind raced, panic overtaking him. He had no idea what this thing was — some ancient spirit, a demon, or something worse. But it had him. The whispers had lured him here, and now it demanded payment.
His throat tightened, his chest aching with terror. “And if I refuse?”
The shadows at the edge of the clearing stirred, rising from the ground like mist, coalescing into figures. People, or what had once been people. Their hollow eyes fixed on him, their mouths hanging open in silent screams. They had refused.
Tom’s heart hammered in his chest. His hands shook. The tree creaked, its hollow growing darker, wider. He could feel it, the hunger, the endless void that waited to consume him if he stayed.
With one last, desperate look at the figures surrounding him, he made his choice.
“I’ll give it,” he whispered, barely able to hear his own voice.
The hollow seemed to pulse, the darkness inside swelling, and before he could react, the tree’s roots shot from the ground, wrapping around his legs, his arms, pulling him into the blackness.
The last thing he heard as the world closed around him was the forest, whispering once more.
“You’re free.”
Two days later, a search party found Tom’s gear at the edge of Sherwood Forest. His body was never recovered, and neither were the bodies of those who had disappeared before him. But deep in the heart of the forest, the whispers continued, waiting for the next soul to lose their way.
Book Review
Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi ⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3 out of 5. Overall Impressions The book hooked me from the start, delivering an eerie and unsettling vibe. However, certain parts were a bit confusing and felt like a drag, slowing the pace down. Key Takeaways It felt like a classic, old-fashioned horror story, packed with twists and plenty of secrets shared between friends. As the title…
The Last Broadcast Shaina Tranquilino October 20, 2024
Adam Harris sat under the harsh glow of studio lights, his crisp suit and polished appearance masking the weariness that clung to his eyes. As the lead anchor of Channel 7 News, he'd seen it all—fires, floods, scandals. But tonight’s report was different. Something felt... wrong.
The teleprompter flickered briefly, and he shot a glance at the producer behind the glass. Jenny mouthed something and waved a dismissive hand. Technical issues were common in live TV. No big deal. Adam adjusted his tie, waiting for his cue.
"Five seconds, Adam," Jenny said through his earpiece.
He straightened in his seat. The camera rolled, the familiar jingle of the news intro faded out, and Adam launched into his practiced tone.
"Good evening, I'm Adam Harris, and tonight's top story—mysterious broadcasts hijacking radio stations and television signals across the country."
He paused, watching the red light of the camera, feeling its gaze on him like an unblinking eye.
"For the past two weeks, people have reported hearing strange voices during routine broadcasts—whispers, indecipherable words... some claiming to hear their own names. Despite numerous investigations, authorities have yet to identify the source."
Adam glanced down at the papers in front of him, shuffling them as the teleprompter continued.
“Some experts believe it to be a prank or perhaps a rogue signal caused by interference. However, others suggest a more... sinister origin."
The words hung in the air, and Adam felt a chill creep up his spine. As if on cue, his earpiece crackled. At first, it was static, but then something else came through—a whisper. A faint, breathy sound.
"...Adam..."
His heart skipped. He swallowed hard, trying to keep his composure. It had to be interference. A glitch. His imagination.
But it happened again, this time clearer.
"...Adam... we're watching you..."
The voice was so faint, he wasn’t sure if it was real or in his head. His fingers tightened around the edge of the desk, knuckles white. Jenny’s voice buzzed through the earpiece, suddenly loud, snapping him out of his daze.
"Everything okay, Adam?" she asked.
He blinked, forcing a smile. "Yes, fine. Sorry, just a bit of interference on my end."
Jenny nodded, but her brow furrowed in concern. He could feel the camera on him still, waiting.
"Now, in related news, several individuals have come forward, claiming they have been contacted directly by the mysterious broadcasts..."
As he spoke, Adam's mind raced. Was someone messing with him? Maybe a disgruntled tech? He glanced at the other staff, but they seemed oblivious. Jenny was focused on the screens, and the camera crew went about their work as usual.
The teleprompter fed him the next segment, but before he could continue, the whisper returned—louder this time.
"...Look behind you, Adam..."
His blood turned to ice. It was the same voice, the same suffocating whisper, but it felt close now. Too close. He shifted in his seat, fighting the urge to turn around. This was absurd. It couldn’t be real.
He felt the air grow heavy, thick, as though the studio itself was closing in. Every instinct screamed at him to get up, to run, but his body refused to move.
Suddenly, the monitor on his desk flickered. The image shifted from the usual broadcast feed to static, then to a shadowy figure—just behind him.
No one in the control room reacted. No alarms. No shouts. The figure was clear on his screen, a silhouette standing in the far corner of the studio. Its form barely human, long and gaunt, as if the darkness had twisted it into something grotesque. Its eyes... black pits, staring directly at him.
Adam's breath hitched. His mind struggled to process what he was seeing. How was this happening? And why wasn't anyone else seeing it?
He turned, slowly, dread pulling at his every muscle. The studio was empty. The cameras, the lights—everything was normal. But he knew. He felt it there, lurking just beyond the edge of his vision.
"Adam..." the voice whispered again, almost tender now, "it's your turn."
The teleprompter had gone blank. His papers slid from his trembling hands, scattering across the desk.
Suddenly, the studio lights dimmed, and the control room's usual buzz faded into silence. His earpiece was dead. The only sound was his own breathing, heavy and erratic.
Adam stood, knocking over his chair, eyes darting around the room. He needed to get out. But as he took a step toward the exit, the screen flickered again. This time, it wasn’t a shadow.
It was his own face staring back at him.
Except it wasn’t quite right. The Adam on the screen had hollow eyes, skin pale and stretched tight over his bones. His lips moved, forming words that Adam couldn’t hear, but somehow, deep inside, he understood.
The screen Adam smiled, thin and unnatural, and then the whisper returned—not from his earpiece, not from the monitor—but from the walls, the floor, the air around him.
"Join us..."
Adam stumbled back, panic flooding his veins. The studio warped, the walls bending, stretching, as if the space itself was alive. The voices grew louder, overlapping, merging into a cacophony of twisted murmurs.
"Join us... join us..."
He ran. His footsteps echoed unnaturally in the suffocating silence. The door to the hallway was just ahead, but as he reached for it, the lights flickered one final time and went out, plunging him into darkness.
For a moment, everything was still. Then, from the blackness, the whisper came again—right at his ear.
"...You’re one of us now, Adam..."
His scream never reached the airwaves.
The next night, Channel 7 News aired its usual broadcast, but Adam Harris was not behind the desk. A new anchor sat in his place, smiling under the bright studio lights. She introduced herself with practiced charm, her voice steady as she delivered the night's top story.
"In breaking news, authorities are investigating the sudden disappearance of veteran anchor Adam Harris. He was last seen at this very desk during last night’s live broadcast. If anyone has information, please contact—"
The signal cut out. Static flooded the screen. For a few seconds, the image flickered.
Then, just barely audible over the hum of dead air, a whisper crept through the speakers.
"...Join us..."
