what had you decide that dappletail is the mother of darkstripe, cricketclaw, and graystripe?

Dappletail had a kitten with the Feather prefix who died young. Immediately makes the names of Stormkit and Featherkit BOTH reference their parents' relatives.

It makes the entire little family the nespring of Thrushpelt. It tickles me pink that Bluestar's protégé becomes besties with her bestie's nephew, a little echo through the years.

Without that, Dappletail actually has no descendants. Her line goes through her half-brother Thistleclaw alone, which is a waste since her father Windflight really didn't need two litters. Rosetail, Thistleclaw's FULL sister, also has no descendants.

Willowpelt is described as having her first litter in TPB only for them to retcon that out of nowhere later on. Retcons have actually DESTROYED the genetic diversity in TC by prioritizing "superqueens" who give birth to the entire next generation instead of JUST spreading the litters out more evenly. Delete Windflight as Dapple's dad and boom you have a whole clean line down from Rainfur.

Sorreltail has descendants already, a lot of them in canon, which I actually shaved a bit. While not TOO big of a deal since Graystripe's litter is far enough removed and the bigger problem is Thornclaw×Blossomfall, it does help a bit.

So, in a nutshell, a lot of reasons. I feel like the "angst potential" of Darkstripe poisoning his youngest sibling is outweighed by the benefits of making Dark/Cricket/Gray/Feather into THE Dapplekin family. There's a LOT of them!

it’s less of a writing game today and more a writing question, but i’m curious: how did you come up with the idea to write your current wip? did you have a ship in mind and then find an idea that would work, or did you have an idea and then find a ship for it? if it was the latter, what other ships did you consider (if any)?

well, TKoD derives fron New York Nights, which in itself was inspired by the fanfic SuperQueen by AChillyDay525 (when I tell you it is one of my fave fanfics ever I am not exaggerating !! this fic is my roman empire)! I've always loved superheroes as a kid and of course I love Drag Race, so mixing the two got me very inspired haha. I chose both of the ships because they were my favorites of the season! I feel like the ships might've come first and then the idea, but I'm not too sure haha
