Hero's Forge
The Hero’s Forge, a large arena, adorned on its highest points by the statues of past trollhunters that were felled in battle, or any other circumstance. Avaluna was already there, looking up at her old friends and those she advised through the centuries, some before, some after the Battle of Killahead. The raven-haired wizard had her eyes set on Deya, her eyes were closed, a symbol of her last battle. As sadness tried to overtake her, she felt a comforting presence beside her, closing her physical eyes but reaching out with her soul, she could sense and see Deya’s spirit, as well as every other in the forge.
“How’re they doing?” Suniva asked, smiling and landing next to her sister.
“As good as any dead troll can be!” She smiled back and opened her eyes. “And I think you would like to know that Aberon was giving you deer horns behind you.”
Both laughed, it wasn’t unknown for Trollhunters to have a personality beyond the grave much similar to the one they had when alive. The sisters sat together, Suniva instantly talking about her time with Draal and how the crystal back had been, or at least what she could gather in his half-drunken state. Avaluna did show concern for the troll, something told her there was trouble brewing with him, yet she hoped she was wrong, continuing to listen quietly as she made sure all the mechanisms were working.
Their mostly one-sided conversation ended when the gasps of a teenage boy coming from the entrance, announcing the presence of the Trollhunter in trollmarket. Avaluna and Suniva waited patiently for him and his friend to notice them, allowing them to take in the sights and the greatness of the place. It wasn’t something easy to take in at first, the oldest sister as well as both siblings remembered the amazement and awe they felt when introduced to places held together by magic, surely, it was no different for that child.
Once there had been enough time to introduce the boys to the place, with Blinkous explaining who some of the Trollhunters high above, they stepped forward.
“Welcome Trollhunter! It is a pleasure to be meeting you.” Avaluna smiled, offering her hand which the boy took with a confused glance. “I am Avaluna, Wizard of the moon and chosen of the Northen Wind.”
“And I’m Suniva! Wizard of the Sun and chosen of the Eternal Flame! Great meeting you!” Her younger sister pipped up, leaning and observing the boy’s physique, concurring with Draals statement that the boy was not exactly strong, but also not out of shape. “Are you ready to start your training?”
“Um- yeah I guess- just one question?”
“O’ course! What’s your question?”
“So? You’re… witches?”
That statement got on Suniva’s nerves the slightest bit, but her sister was quick to correct it before her sister did. “No, Master Jim. We are wizards.”
“I thought that was just the male version?”
“No, it is more complex than that you see.” She smiled, bringing the necklace from inside her clothes to the surface. “Witches make trades. They need sources of magic to use it, and also corrupt it into what they want them to do. Wizards are different in that aspect. We do not need to change the core of something. We simply need to guide its pre-existing energy to the objective we seek!”
With a few waves of her hand, she summoned a sphere of light, which played around in her hands and rolled on her arms a bit like a ball. It delighted the boys, who watched in awe at the simple trick. Suniva calmed down, also bringing forth her necklace from inside her clothes. “Any more questions?”
Toby raised his hand high, and the sister of red curls nodded in his direction. “Yes? Er…”
“Tobias Domzalski! Best friend of Jim. One question:...”
“Just one?” Jim queried, amused.
“You guys are trolls.” He points to Aaarrrgh and Blinky. “Doesn’t ‘Trollhunter’ mean you hunt yourselves?”
“Hunt bad trolls. Gumm-gumms.” The big green troll clarified.
“Bringers of calculated painful death and destruction.” Suniva added, walking back to be beside her sister, also noticing Jim’s fearful demeanor. “Don’t worry, Jim! Only one gumm-gumm remains on the surface lands! The rest are rotting in the Darklands, if not already dead.”
“Wait- Bular is one of the murderous ones?!” Toby squealed, fear clear in his voice.
“Indeed he is, thus the urgency of training! I fear dark times are upon us.” Blinky moved towards the starting button for the arena.
Avaluna knew of the plan, moving to be beside him together with her sister, before she could stop him, however, he had pressed the button. Blades emerged from the ground and giant axes swung from the walls, Aaarrrgh left the arena in time, the boys narrowly escaping being chopped in half.
“Maybe we start with something less sharp?!” Jim exasperated, backed into a wall next to them.
“I agree with the Trollhunter, that was too much to start.” Avaluna frowned.
“You should have seen him facing Bular before we entered Trollmarket today! It was amazing! I think he’s got more potential than he gives out.”
“You were attacked by Bular outside Trollmarket?!” The moon wizard gasped, black eyes wide with shock.
Blinkous had no time to reply, as Vendel’s voice echoed in the arena. “Blinkous Galadrigal!”
The elder crossed the arena, facing the trainer as he scrunched his shoulders, ready to be faced with some sort of anger, disappointment or both at once. Once the chief arrived at their spot, he turned to the boys, asking the Trollhunter to come forward, so he could meet the boy who was chosen.
Avaluna stepped up, pointing to Jim. “Here he is Vendel!” The elder turned around from looking at Toby, who took back his phone before anything happened. “Jim, this is Vendel. Son of Rundle, son Of Kilfred. And elder to trollmarket.”
The boy was intimidated by the elder's attitude, back stretched, demanding respect. He cleared his throat, “I'm Jim… Well… James Lake Junior… Son of… Barbara?”
Jim produced the amulet, showing it. “So the rumors are true…”
A bit of banter back and forth, debating whether this was another one of the Amulet's tests of Trollkinds own individual strength or a legitimate protector in the making, as well as a very terrifying Soothscriar test that ended inconclusive, made so Vendel left. Leaving behind some emotional damage and trauma, which the sisters rushed to correct.
“Don’t mind him! He’s an old goat and sometimes can’t fathem change.” Suniva chirped, pulling Jim and Toby up.
Avaluna agreed with her sister, it was not a lie, though she had to add. “Though you must also recall that he is, like most of Trollmarket, grieving an old friend who was felled.”
Jim and Toby stared as all fell somber, looking up again at the empty space. “Grieving? The last Trollhunter?”
“Precisely…” Avaluna sighed heavily, using light once again and projecting the images of the past as she narrates it. “Kanjigar was the first Trollhunter after the battle of Killahead, centuries ago. He was the guide as we traversed the New World, as we searched for a Hearthstone…” The image projected itself into the air, the room dimming as Avaluna’s lit hands painted the empty space. “Before that, he was a scholar, a historian, who was beloved by the community. He had a wife, a son, all he could need… Even as the war struck, he was a pillar for our populus.” The images of the horrors of war flashed through. “The Gumm-gumms attacked… They killed his wife while his son was still young… They threatened his life and his way of being… More than all… Threatened his son.” The image of a young Draal, threatened by a giant troll and a smaller figure. “His death affects everyone, the lives he has touched were many… Of course, he is missed. All grieve differently, and his grief is simply different for he is the headmaster. A lot is expected. The world, sadly, does not stop when you are grieving.”
Jim looked down in thought as Avaluna undid the illusions, dusting off her sweaty hands. There truly was no time for that, but knowing was better than anything. For the duty, he had to know what was emotional intelligence. And more so, how to handle things such as this.
“Fighting is of importance. But not as much as having a kind heart and understanding what goes through it.” She places a hand on Jim’s shoulder, attentive. “You have been burdened with a lot. But now, on this journey, to be a Trollhunter, you may decide if you are Hades, or if you will be Ares.”
With that, she stepped away, placing a hand next to her necklace, same as her sister. Both started glowing, revealing a shocking sight to the boys.
They also had amulets.

Personally, I thrive knowing I got the right emotions out of the reader. And worry not, he had a happy ending.
Imagine with me if you will, and for context, my oc's name is Sunniva.
Whilst the concept is the ring breaks much earlier, in my fic, it only truly happens after the giant portal which saves the trolls of trollmarket.
Once the smoke clears out, all involved finding themselves in the woods just outside Arcadia, all cheer as all have survived and reasonably unscathed.
Or so they thought.
Sunniva approaches Angor, realizing he's not as cheerful as the others, knowing as he had the ring, he should be able to feel some emotions. It is only when he turns around, she looks into his eyes, meeting the white, empty eyes, staring back at her.
From then on, she does all she can to soothe his aching. It was almost a flip of the switch. The once calm and collected troll she knew became irritable, skittish, jumping at every sound, he'd flinch at her touch. It was unusual. Though no doubt it was to do with his lack of soul. He was almost feral.
Her sister did as she could as well, but his soul had been returned to the one who cursed him. Without knowing how to reach her, there was almost no way of regaining his soul.
One night, they were both resting, laying on the floor covered by blankets and pillows. Sunniva leaned on him gently, golden wing wrapped around him in a protective gesture, when she could felt the nightmare begin. She woke up when he trembled under her hand, whispering weakly things she had no context to, but imagined what could be. She tried to soothe him, whispering sense back to him.
Then the door opened, her younger brother, Douxie, coming in to check on them. The sound alarming the already scared troll.
A dagger flew, glowing green with creeping sun, digging into the wood of the wall. Angor moved quickly, wrapping his arms and pulling Suniva back, almost dislodging her wing before she could unsummon it. "GET BACK!! YOU WON'T TAKE HER!! YOU WON'T HURT HER!!"
He screamed desperately, eyes unfocused. Hisirdoux froze, trying to use his own words to reason. But it fell on death ears. So Suniva tried instead, wrapping her arms around his neck gently and slowly. "Angor, it's okay... you're okay... you're safe... it's just my brother... he's our friend... he's not going to hurt you or me..."
Slowly, he woke up more, realizing what he had done and calming down enough to process what had happened. An apology was given and accepted, on the terms perhaps it would be best for them to not have weapons around their sleeping quarters.
Suniva started to extended a little of her soul to him that day. Extending as much as she could without giving it to him.
Safe to say, they were attached at the hip for a moment. Before he regained his soul.
Omg- I did not expect my heart to break today-

Onyx Storm RECAP ch44-45
At this point we're 70% of the way through the book. Back to Basgiath, the war with the venin, and all of Violet's shitty, unsolvable problems.
WTF is happening in ch44-45?
King Tauri (who IMO has been suspiciously absent from this entire book) says no consequences for quest squad going rogue and visiting all the isles in one trip. He's just grateful to have Aaric/Cam back in Navarre. Once again: Violet gets away with it!
The venin continue to press their advantage. Half of Krovla, the southern province of Poromiel, is now red on the Battle Brief map. Violet wonders how many dark wielders it would take to cover this much territory so quickly, which is the same thing I've been wondering since late in Iron Flame.
We learn that 12 venin + 12 wyvern took down Suniva, the capital of Poromiel, which was a city of about 25,000 people.
--
Let's digress a moment: 25,000 people in the fourth-largest city in Poromiel? Seriously? That's smaller than Parkersburg, West Virginia. That's the size of London in the year 1200. I need a Fourth Wing appendix that covers typical diet, average family size, mortality rates, historical venin attack statistics, etc. Why are there so few people spread across such a huge fucking surface area? Why are none of the major cities located at ports or rivers? Ugh make it make sense.
--
The venin stole 6 crates of alloy hilted daggers that had just arrived in Suniva for distribution, which is extremely sus! Were they simply disarming their enemies? Or do the venin use daggers for their own nefarious purposes?
Key takeaways from Battle Brief:
Someone told the venin about the daggers sent to Suniva, so there are traitors inside Navarre
Theophanie used her powers to sneak the venin into the city inside a thunderstorm, so she's a Maven
Violet is feeling very outmatched by venin in general and Theophanie in particular
Rhiannon nags Sawyer about getting back on his dragon as the Scooby Gang heads down to the Archives. Jesenia has a package for Violet, which she says she intercepted before Aetos could snag it.
The gang grabs a private study room so Violet can tell her friends that oh by the way, her boyfriend is slowly turning venin.
We don't get the details of how that conversation goes, because the next chapter jumps into one of those terrifying dreams with the Sage.
Some things to note:
Violet hears Andarna screaming
Blue fire licking up the walls of Draithus
Sage is taunting that her emotions will fade with time
Sage draws the sword of Tyrrendor (!!) to attack
Violet wakes up and stares at the package Jesenia gave her, which is a nightgown + robe made from the Deverelli silk she admired on their first trip to the isle. Remember that? Xaden took Dain & his Krovlish language skills into the shop to make the purchase and srsly, I'm gonna need that moment in a future Xaden POV chapter.
The next day we're out on the flight field with Xaden & Kaori practicing how to battle venin on the ground and remount your dragon at a run. There's probably some interesting foreshadowing in the way each cadet approaches the challenge. Like the fact that Aaric doesn't attack the venin projection, but throws an axe at Kaori to break his concentration instead. It makes me a little anxious that Xaden is watching Tairn & Violet's tactics for this maneuver, and I hate that about me.
It's Xaden's birthday (end of March, he's an Aries lol), and after class Violet gives him a letter to read and an onyx bracelet she had made for him from a broken piece of the roof of Riorson House. We love symbolic jewelry! I hope this bracelet is important eventually.
Felix shows up to interrupt the tender moment. He's arrived to train Violet, because the wards in Aretia are getting weaker & weaker.
--
Random thought: Did Jesenia really intercept Violet's package? Are the scribes the ones reading & censoring all the mail? Or did the package arrive via special shadow daddy delivery and Jesenia didn't want to make a big deal out of it in front of the Scooby Gang?

Excerpt from this story from Canary Media:
Despite the policy uncertainty facing renewables as the Trump administration prepares to take the wheel, the outlook for U.S. solar is generally positive, according to the just-released U.S. Solar Market Insight Q4 2024 report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and energy analysis firm Wood Mackenzie.
This year, the solar industry is set to break installation records and achieve significant manufacturing milestones — including the return of silicon solar cell production to the U.S. for the first time since 2019.
As a testament to the effectiveness of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), domestic solar module manufacturing capacity has nearly quintupled since 2022 — courtesy of new or expanded factories in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Texas that benefited from the law’s tax credits. The U.S. added a record-breaking 9.3 gigawatts of new solar module production capacity in the third quarter alone.
The IRA is also responsible for bringing solar cell manufacturing back to the U.S., with Suniva (which filed for bankruptcy in 2017) restarting production at its Norcross, Georgia factory in November. Solar cells do the actual conversion of sunlight to electricity, but domestic production was halted due to lower-cost imports. The vast majority of the world’s cells are made in China and four Southeast Asian countries whose solar exports are now subject to steep U.S. tariffs.
The U.S. currently has close to 40 gigawatts in module manufacturing capacity, according to Wood Mackenzie — enough to meet almost all of its own demand for panels. But the country will still need to rely on imported solar cells for the foreseeable future; less than 10 gigawatts of cell capacity is under construction in the states.
With the exception of the residential rooftop segment, U.S. solar installations are overperforming in the face of trade headwinds. Corporate and state renewable energy goals are creating high demand for solar, though Wood Mackenzie expects the energy source’s blistering growth to taper off over the next five years as developers face the same woes as the broader power generation sector: a limited workforce, equipment constraints, and interconnection delays.

Everyone say hello to Morí! She is a fable, with her design being based off of the Chinese domestic silk moth! She the chief royal stylist, as well as being Suniva’s personal tailor. She is a no nonsense women with a job to do, and she likes it that way. Needless to say, she doesn’t exactly appreciate it when Sunny’s “adventures” have him running late to his fittings and bringing back her work in tatters.
As always, feel free to ask me about her!

Hi Han! You seem tired of Aries questions lol so coming here to ask a random one! How many people do you think Rhys has had sex with by the time of ACOTAR? Hit me with an estimate over his 550 years and throw in some names from HoN if you have any! Let's stir up some drams!
Plz say Helion.
this actually made me snort reading it, never tired of the questions! however i do love this question...
ok hear me out hear me out
i dont think rhys has had sex with that many people. sure he was crazy when he was younger but let's be real he slowed down after the war soooooooo
i'm going to say
more than 40 but less than 50. somewhere around 16 or 18 people after the war and the first 30 are before the war when he's young and horny...because i love an even number
to be fair that is not a lot for being 550 years old which is like 1 partner every 13.5 years
math
my reasoning is that i think he's a secret relationship guy. he stays with his partners for a significant enough portion of time where like azriel might be knee deep in a few girlies at a time (horrible reference)
as for who...i don't want to ruin some stuff but i'll throw a juicy bit in bc i like this ask...lilah (obvi), suniva (juicy juicy), cressida (cmon there was too much tension), amarantha (sad)
ok here's my thing about helion. i just truly think rhys's worst quality is that he's too straight
cassian however...cassian would hit

Catching up
The Trollmarket’s library had never been of the bustling sort, thankfully, that is. It was in the care of, and mainly visited by, one troll.
Waltzing inside the bookeep, Avaluna took a moment to breathe in the volumes, much more ancient than any on the surface besides her own. The figure of the conundrum she searched for was still unseen, though, quickly she knew not for long. Picking up one of the volumes on a pile and sitting on the chair next to it, she smiled softly as the gasps of the two trolls filled the cave.
“I thought you would be done with Lekary’s collection of Beastkeeper tales! Do you still need me to craft those reading glasses?” She put the bookmark back where it was, got up and was wrapped in a four-armed hug.
“Avaluna! So great to see you, milady!”
Avaluna chuckled, “Blinkous… You know you do not need the formalities with me!”
“Why with someone of your standing! Of course I would be on my best behaviour!” He bowed, only to get back up again and hug her once more. “But I won’t deny I am so glad there’s another being that I can discuss troll lore with!”
“Indeed I would love to reminisce with you about such tales. But there is a duty, and much I do not know, and your knowledge would be of the most useful variety!” Behind the conundrum, appeared the grubera she knew far too well. “Argumont! It is so great to see you as well!”
She hugged the friendly giant, who was very gentle with his strength. “Good to see you again!”
“Truly is, my friend! Oh! I have brought gifts to both of you!” She rummages through her bag, then hands Aaarrrgh a trinket, a sculpture of a flower made with red clay, delicately painted with dots and different colours. “It was given to me by a troll cacique! It will always smell as your favourite flower!” The grubera was happy, holding it carefully and scenting it. Turning to the six-eyed troll again, the girl retrieves and hands a heavy textbook. “And this! Is a collection of the Brazilian troll history I managed to gather! It is as complete on all five human and ten troll regions of the country!”
The happy sounds that emanated from Blinkous brought an even warmer smile to the woman as he excitedly flipped through the pages. “Oh you truly know how to make a scholar’s heart swell!”
“It takes one to know another!” Her semblance did take a more somber shadow, as much as she wished to reminisce, there was a job to be done. “Now, I wish it was a better time to talk about what the past 300 years have been for the two of you and Trollmarket. However, there is a job to be done. And your input would be most appreciated.”
Blinkous sighed, understanding exactly what she was referring to. “Did Vendel call you?”
“He sent a letter and told me and my sister, telling us that the amulet chose a human for the first time in all the centuries that it has been active. He is nervous about it, and has requested for me and my sister to come by and make sure everything is going to be okay.”
“Unsurprising… He doesn’t trust the training I’ve done so far.”
“Blinky, it has nothing to do with your training. You know I have defended your methods even after Ulkar’s fall, letting Kanjigar take over the training of Trollhunters was not a choice neither mine nor Vendel’s, it was by popular vote.” The moonlit wizards sighed, that evening was not a pleasant one, nor were the decisions afterward. “Training a human is much different from training a troll, a human child then? It is incredibly different. I remember the process of getting Hisirdoux enrolled into Arcadia Oaks Academy, as well as faking all the documents necessary for all appliances and possible bills that might come, normal humans care about their children. If they were injured or disappeared, it might bring so much suspicion, they might find out about the underground.”
Blinkous shook his head, frowning and leaning on the table. “I also would have never dreamed of this happening. I was in hopes he’d be a wizard or wizarding apprentice like you.”
“Indeed, but there is no record in the wizarding archaic of his name or soul. So, I am afraid to say, he is not.” She moved and put a hand on his back. “So, with many of these concerns, it is best to have people who have lived in that world to help guide the trollhunter.”
The conundrum turned to the wizard, sighing heavily. “Why not your brother?”
“Douxie was charged with the beast keeping duties, besides library and coffee shop duties. He has no time. Me and my sister were on a diplomatic mission and now we are here.”
“Suniva came too?” Argumont questioned, looking around the volumes for the sun wizard.
“She is with Draal, we agreed to meet when the trollhunter was on the way.”
“Well. We shouldn’t have you wait much longer! I’ll fetch Master Jim!” Blinkous got up, swiftly marching towards the exit of the library. He stopped for a second, turning back. “We would still be able to chit-chat once today’s training was over, correct?”
“Of course! We have the entire day to converse after the trollhunter returns to the surface!” She smiled gently once again, watching as Blinky and Aaarrrgh left through the door.
The wizard then turned to the books on the table, many were troll books, yet some were in reality much newer volumes of human psychology and anatomy. Knowing Blinky, it wasn’t surprising that he was researching the best ways of keeping the boy alive, and when there were not many human studies by trolls it wasn’t surprising he went to human sources. She wondered if he had gone to Douxie’s place to get them. With curiosity overtaking her at the sight of the smaller bits of paper poking out, she reached for it, taking it and opening the book, reading through the conundrum’s notes.
It was refreshing to be looking at the psychology of humans, the reading kept her busy for the hours that Blinky didn’t return.
It even gave her an idea.
—---
Suniva and Draal sat in the hut, enjoying a few beverages, hers being mainly energy drinks and his the usual glug. They chatted for hours, many stories flying from their mouths in between swigs of drinks. They cackled together, reenacted their tales, occasionally slapped and punched each other jokingly. Having not seen each other in three centuries barely dented their friendship, if not made it stronger.
Once the stories had been told and the effects of both drinks started to kick in, they leaned back on opposite ends of the room. Now with the caffeine doing the opposite of what it was supposed to, with her mind slowing down, she took in the home of her dear friend.
It still had all the items it had when she left with her sister, all the weapons on the walls and leaned on corners, shelves stocked with food and traps for gnomes lining the corners. His bed was still the same unkept mess it had always been, and… Her eyes wandered to Kanjigar’s side of the hut, kept neat and organized. The previous trollhunter and historian had left it just like that, with a mug still on the side of his bedding with some of his books layered on top.
With a heavy sigh, she turns to the troll in front of her. Extending her aura, she’s able to feel the sadness hiding behind the happiness of the reconnecting they did.
“Have you gotten all his pieces yet?” Her question was soft, as she tilted her head and gazed at the troll that had lifted his head, only to lower it again.
“Everything we could…” Draal was never one for talking about emotions, he was very much a punch-first troll.
“Do you want help with the proceedings?”
“No… I’ll start piecing him together once that flesh bag is out of here…” He puts aside the glug, taking one of the bits of cooled coal and eating it. “I’m not disgracing my father with the Hero’s Forge being taken over by that… Pretender!”
“Draal… He is not a fake. He’s been chosen just like every other trollhunter.”
“But he is NOT a troll! He’s a sad wimpy fleshbag!” He snarled, huffing and biting down into another crumbly fuel.
“At one point I was a ‘wimpy fleshbag’ and no one seems to mind me being one of the key advisors to trollmarket.”
“You know magic. It’s different. You were RAISED with trolls, for Deya you know me since I was a whelp like you!” He scoffed again. “How can you not see that?! Let’s all be honest, EVERYONE would rather if I had been the trollhunter! It was meant to be!
“No, it wasn’t.” Suniva frowned, tossing her energy drink bottle at him, which he swallowed whole. “Drall, being a trollhunter is not based on descendancy, it has its own choosing style and we have no idea how but one thing we DO know is it's not by family line!”
“Even if it was! There’s no troll better suited than me!! I was RAISED for the mantle!”
Suniva moaned heavily again, pinching the bridge of her nose, he was one stubborn troll. “It’s. Not. Hereditary. I’m glad you wanted to be the next trollhunter! But I’m sorry it does not work like that!”
The troll growled and hit his fists onto the ground, anger filled with disappointment. She sighed, approaching him, it wasn’t like he scared her in the slightest. Her hand rested on his shoulder, the touch bringing him to his feet.
“My father was a great warrior and so I will be.”
Suniva frowned and rolled her eyes. “You are. Get some rest, okay? I can sense the arrival of the trollhunter… I gotta go.” She paused before the exit, turning back with a kind smile once again. “Hey! Let’s race tomorrow night! I bet I can still reach the lake before you!”
He didn’t move much, yet she knew he had accepted. So, with another friendly punch to his arm, she left to meet this trollhunter she heard so much of.

A message from Mayor Lowell.
Tumblr media
"Hello Apricus! Mayor Lowell here with..well it's not really a Mayor Lowell Presents but more of a state of the city address? Sure, we'll call it that!"
"First off I hope you all have been enjoying Solstice season. Hopefully Suniva's Day went well for you. We're coming up on the Silver Moon Solstice, AND the start of a brand new year! Isn't that exciting?"
Tumblr media
"I know many of us have been extremely busy this past year. The city is still recovering from those dreadful Checkmate attacks. Not to mention everything else that has been happening. Never a dull day around here huh? Still, I love this city. It always inspires me how everyone comes together in times of need. Everyone has been working hard to get us back to normal, you all have my eternal gratitude."
Tumblr media
"Though as I said, we rarely have a dull moment. Apricus, and well..the rest of the world is about to be part of one of the biggest events to ever take place. The Olympus Tournament. A chance to face off against the greatest fighters from all over the world."
"A chance to win riches beyond our imaginations. A chance to meet with the Five Emperors. Something every few people get to do. A chance..at your one true desire. Whatever it is you want most could be right around the corner..if you win. Or if you impress the Emperors enough. Jolly exciting isn't it?"
Tumblr media
"That being said, very little is known about the Emperors. Even less is known about the so called "Senior Partners" helping out Paradise Entertainment. But, what fun is life without taking risks correct? Who knows what may come. Only one way to find out."
"Next year will see a fair share of changes to our schedule as things get rearranged due to the tournament schedule. We'll still of course have our Hecaball season though it may start a little later in the year. I look forward to seeing if the Knights can defend their championship."
Tumblr media
"As you know, next year will also be an election year. That means yours truly will once again be up for reelection. We'll find out who I'll be running against in the coming months. So if you're a fan of politics, look forward to some thrilling debates!"
Tumblr media
"Lastly I will pass along a note from the Templar Leader, Brother Julius. The church has made a thrilling discovery. While he can not disclose much info quite yet, he says it has incredibly historic significance. I hear a few groups from the church may be offered a chance to experience..well whatever it is soon. I look forward to hearing more."
Tumblr media
"That's all the time I have. Thank you again for everything all of you do for our great city. If you plan on representing us at Olympus make sure you get as much training in as possible. Please take care of yourselves. I'll see you all on the ship."
"Have a wonderful evening."

Onyx Storm RECAP ch43
Bex decided to channel her inner Aaron Sorkin here so we get a chapter that's just...people talking. (Free fanfic idea: Xaden & Ridoc doing a White House walk & talk, with dick jokes, you're welcome.)
This chapter almost certainly contains a ton of FORESHADOWING that I may or may not have captured for your attention.
WTF is happening in ch43?
Quest squad regroups after the encounter with the irids.
Violet says there's no point in visiting the last inhabited isle, Loysam (dedicated to Loial, the goddess of love), because that island doesn't have an army. It's time to go back to Basgiath and see what's happened while they've been gone.
Will skipping the last isle be important? Is the secret to saving Xaden actually on Loysam? Or was this isle quest just getting too long? Guess we'll find out eventually.
Violet & Ridoc walk into the woods so she can come clean about the fact that Xaden has been venin for months. Ridoc says all the things a reasonable person who isn't in love with Xaden would say about the situation. (He's bonded to a powerful dragon, he's the Duke of Tyrrendor, AND he's a dark wielder. Great.) This is a fantastic moment for Ridoc and also a moment that makes me think he's doomed (sorry).
Violet admits she's selfish when it comes to Xaden, and maybe a little self-destructive these days. She says there's no rider alive who could stop Xaden even now, and admits that she won't/can't hurt him. (I feel confident that this will be put to the test eventually and it fills me with DREAD.)
Ridoc pushes Violet to define "the line" where he's not Xaden anymore, and Violet draws it at all the bad stuff we hope Xaden never does—kill civilians, hurt a dragon, hurt Violet. Ridoc seems satisfied, and gives her another round of "the four of us (Vi, Rhi, Ridoc, Sawyer) are stronger together."
Xaden is waiting for them and acquiesces to Ridoc's demand that the Scooby Gang be brought into the Xaden conspiracy to help protect Violet. He says that if it's between him and Violet, he chooses Violet every time, and to "kill the other guy I become." 😬
Ridoc leaves and Xaden tells Violet that he feels responsible for fucking up the conversation with the irids, that maybe if he hadn't been there things would've turned out better. (I'm never going to forgive the irids for calling Andarna the thing that they abhor so...fuck them.) Xaden is clearly full of guilt and self-loathing, and says he's the worst possible thing for the mission, for Tyrrendor, and for Violet.
--
Quest squad heads home but everyone's in a shit mood, especially Andarna.
Warm welcome on the flight field from Rhi & Sawyer, but of course General Aetos has to appear and ruin the moment. He hands Violet a letter from Theophanie, which is full of her usual creepy stalker vibes.
Chapter ends on a downer: while they were gone, the capital city of Poromiel, Suniva, fell to the dark wielders.
Queen Maraya is dead. That means Tecarus is king...for however long it lasts.
So, what did we learn on this adventure to the isles?
Violet stepped up as a leader on this journey, making decisions and setting priorities.
Xaden had a lot of good Wife Guy moments, including 2 that almost seemed like...a marriage proposal.
Mission to get allies = success. 40,000 troops from Zehyllna.
Mission to recruit the irids = failure.
I'd like to remind everyone, once again, that dragons aren't necessarily good or trustworthy, even the special ones.
Pay attention to the fact that we were shown, repeatedly, that less color=less magic, and more color=more magic
Unnbriel wants dragons. It's almost certain that they were the isle who helped the Krovlish rebels 200 years ago, then abandoned them when they didn't produce the promised dragons.
We got some good clues about Violet and the meaning of her silver hair. More on that soon!
Xaden's mom isn't a venin, but she sucks in an entirely different—and very human—way.
Asher Sorrengail knew a fuck ton about the isles, enough to write 4 (!!) books, one each for Deverelli, Unnbriel, Zehyllna, and (we assume) Loysam. How did he manage it??? When did he find the time?

Solstice Showdown: A Rockin' Holiday Spectacular! Part Two.
Continued from here.
Bethany, and Julie are skeptical about the old man's story but the sudden appearance of Cosmo, and Reginald seems to back up his claims. Reginald explains to his bandmates that he and Cosmo witnessed Java Joe get abducted by the creature from the old man's story. Thankfully Reginald's helmet allows him basic communication skills.
The girls hurry after their feline companions in hopes of finding some sort of clue. Unfortunately for them when they reach the scene of the crime nothing seems to have been left behind.
Meanwhile Java Joe awakens to find himself in a strange jail cell of sorts. He takes a look around him and sees several children that were stolen away by the creature. The creature makes itself known, pulling down it's hood and revealing it's monstrous face...though if one looked closely enough some human features still remained, as faded as they may be.
The creature stops in front of Java Joe and begins to ask him questions. In between answers the creature tells Java Joe of it's story. Another new Void Katz song serves as the background music. The creature considered itself necessary, the world was slipping more and more into greed, and in it's own words "naughtiness".
It felt Suniva did nothing but make things worse. Suniva rewarding the good children was only creating more greed. The children wanted more and more, they were never happy with what they had, or what they got. Some children would put aside their naughty nature for a short amount of time just to try and receive a gift. Once they did, they'd go right back to their awful selves.
People forgot what the true meaning of the season was. It felt that in order to correct all the mistakes, it needed to take drastic measures. But in doing so..Suniva labeled it a villain. Well, if a villain was what it was called, a villain it would be..
As the creature walks on to check on it's other prisoners, Java Joe begins to use a coffee stirrer to pick the lock on his chains.
Back in the village Reginald seems to have an idea. Perhaps they need to lure the creature out of hiding again. This would however require the help of the townspeople which were not currently very fond of their musical guests.
Well..the best way to change someone's mind was always through song! The Void Katz, and Cosmo gather up the people in the town hall once more. Explaining to them what they need. The people still don't believe them so they decide with the help of the old man to perform a brand new song! The people begin to come around and decide to listen to the plan.
A short time later The Void Katz have set their equipment up in the town square, everyone had gathered to watch. They begin to perform a mix of old and new songs. As if on cue, the creature can be seen watching the crowd from an alley. Trying to catch a glimpse of anyone misbehaving. Reginald, and Cosmo seem aware of it's presence but make no moves even as the snowstorm begins to kick up again.
The creature seems confused however when it hears someone calling for help. The voice of Java Joe is heard coming from the mirror the creature seems to be carrying with it inside it's cloak. Rather than risk drawing attention it decides to abandon it's current pursuit.
It turns only to come face to face with Julie, and Bethany. The Void Katz currently playing on stage flicker a bit, revealed to be holograms. The creature is infuriated at being tricked. It swipes at the girls with it's claws but they prove too agile and easily avoid it's strikes.
A fight scene plays out, once again with a new Void Katz song playing in the background. Eventually the creature pulls out the mirror and uses it to transport itself back to a pocket dimension, the girls however leap after it at the last second and go along for the ride.
Java Joe meanwhile has escaped his cell and freed the children but without the mirror had no way to get back. He's surprised by the sudden appearance of the creature and the girls. The creature had been using it's own prison to hold it's victims, as well as using the cracked mirror to make easy getaways by simply teleporting back here.
The creature tries to feed off the children's fear however Julie, Bethany, and surprisingly Java Joe begin to sing one final song. They inspire the children to believe in the magic of the holiday season. With the children accepting the true meaning of the season, the creature begins to lose some of it's power.
It scoffs however, stating that even if they are no longer naughty they have no way of escaping. It laughs and uses the mirror to teleport itself back outside, leaving everyone stranded.
The creature is shocked that when it appears in the normal world it comes face to face with Cosmo, Reginald, and a figure in a hooded white cloak. A moment later the children, Bethany, Julie, and Java Joe find themselves teleported back to the town square where the parents embrace their children.
The hooded figure points her hand out, showing the creature everything taking place. The creature seems to accept it's defeat and hands over the cracked mirror to the hooded figure. She takes it, and in a surprising move shatters it completely. Destroying the pocket dimension the creature had been trapped in.
She holds out her hand, the creature hesitates but after a moment takes hold of it. Both seem to vanish without a word.
Grandfather: "I think perhaps she felt their was another way, instead of just sealing her former friend away again. Perhaps she can show that the world isn't as terrible as it truly believed."
Java Joe: "Wait, so you're telling me that was.."
Grandfather: "She was who you believe she was." Smiling as his grandchildren run over to embrace him.
Everyone gathers in the town square one last time and begin to sing as they light up the giant tree in the center of the square. Cosmo, and Java Joe glance up in time to catch a glimpse of a star shooting across the night sky.
End credits roll.
"Happy Solstice Season from your friends at CiarBucks, and The Void Katz!"
