my main snack that i carry around is (pre-shelled) sunflower seeds that i put seasonings on. if i want to occasionally share these with birds i run into (most often pigeons) what seasonings should i avoid?
Would you be able to just keep a plain bag (like an additional small one to bring to feed birds)? Unfortunately a lot of the seasonings that appeal to people aren’t good for birds; for example, I can almost guarantee most mixes have salt on them (which is fair - I personally wouldn’t eat unsalted sunflower seeds), which is bad for birds. Onion and garlic are also to be avoided. I guess it really depends what type of thing you usually put on? Most herbs (for example, Italian seasonings like basil & oregano) are safe, but IDK if there’s a big market for basil sunflower seeds.

dancing queen, if you’re busy then just put a pin in this because it’s kind of a doozy 💝 but rhett x reader x robby is making me want to revisit our snacker!rhett & big meal!robby headcanons...
🤔💭🥞🍗
how do they coexist alongside reader with such differing palettes? were rhett and reader surprised by how big robby’s appetite was at first, and how much food he could put away by himself? were robby and reader concerned with how rhett can’t eat breakfast because his stomach doesn’t wake up until 10 or 11am? how do they feel about the fact that he just snacks on crunchy air from wabang’s one gas station until dinner time? what do they all think of cecilia’s cooking? do they try to get rhett to eat real food every now and again, even when they’re apart? do they have any favorite dishes they share? do you think reader can cook? *thinks about adding to the rhett x reader x robby myself world because i love cooking and i need to feed these men* omg i know we talked about how rhett kinda can’t cook and you’ve written that you think robby can cook, so do they have a favorite dish from him? savory or sweet? omg do you think any of them has a sweet tooth? let’s discuss 💐
💃😭I think about those old headcanons so often; I'm sorry for taking like two weeks to answer this; I've been simmering on so many details.
For reference: Ye Ole Food Headcanons for Robby and Rhett (It's longer than you think it is.)
Breakfast and lunch are treated more as "eat when you're hungry" rather than set times where everyone has to cook and sit down together. With how Rhett eats like a bird and Bobby's schedule tends to be a bit unpredictable, it's just easier to make yourself something when you're hungry.
However, dinner gets a big emphasis. Not only is it the time Rhett's capable of eating more than a bag of sunflower seeds, but he and Robby are almost guaranteed to be home. It's a whole production. As soon as Bob's on his way home, he's making a phone call to figure out what the plan is.
Does he need to stop and pick up takeout? Are they in the mood for cooking at home? Did Rhett remember to get eggs from that little farmer's market by his work? Or does someone need to make a grocery stop? Are we absolutely sure the milk isn't expired this time?
Rhett and Bob mutually scared each other at first 😭
In the beginning, Robby absolutely tried to downplay how much food he can eat by himself. Nothing can convince me otherwise 💃 To him, there's nothing more awkward than asking to order a second plate of food when the rest of the table is done and ready to go 😭
But there comes a day when he's fresh out of a deployment, and between exhaustion and how much he's missed "normal" food, caution is thrown to the wind.
✨Insert frightened Rhett Abbott here✨
The Reader probably isn't surprised until the second slice of hot fudge cake comes along, and the waitress takes the opportunity to pick up all the empty plates before she goes back. There are just...so many plates...all for one man...
They start keeping track of how much he eats simply out of curiosity. So far, his best records are before and after deployments. Those ships just ain't made for a man who can and will eat you out of house and home without breaking a sweat.
Rhett's got an ongoing joke that in the event of them running out of food, Robby's going to eat both of them before the first day is over.
That joke occasionally gets him bit.
Meanwhile, Robby spent several nights wondering how the hell Rhett can manage working on a ranch with that diet. He does three times the amount of manual labor Bob does in a day, and yet he eats so? so? little? He makes breakfast for all three of them once, and the best Rhett can do is entertain him by eating a few pieces of bacon.
There's an instance where he gently asks Rhett if it's a money issue or if there's an underlying issue he's dealing with because he's never seen someone eat so little. Cue a meek cowboy explaining that he's just...not hungry. He says that as he reopens a bag of stale Funyuns 🤦♀️
However! The Reader accidentally discovers a loophole.
While Rhett isn't one for eating three full meals a day, he is always one for trying bites of whatever you happen to be eating. It starts with him meekly asking for a bite of a pretzel the Reader got at a concession stand and slowly becomes a thing where Robby and Reader use his grazing habits to their advantage. Especially Robby. Goes as far as to order different things because that means he can get Rhett to eat a little more than he would otherwise.
Neither is above cutting off a piece of food with a fork and holding it out for Rhett like he's their fussy six-year-old.
Aside from that, there's a general effort to supply him with snacks that aren't straight off a store shelf. Fruit, homemade trail mix, hard-boiled eggs, anything small that you can shove into an inconspicuous lunch box. When they're apart, it's harder because Rhett just...forgets...but they've managed to get him hooked on making his own trail mix.
When it comes to Cecilia's cooking...Rhett eats food from the gas station for a reason. Bob can eat anything and everything; her food does not phase him in the slightest. If Reader likes food primarily cooked in crock pots, overcooked meat, and inconsistent seasoning, then they'll have a great time!
Strangely, she's very good with desserts. Her peach cobbler has won awards at the county fair, and that honeybun cake recipe has been passed down for generations for a reason.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if the Reader can't cook when they meet Rhett and Bob, then they'll inevitably learn. Bob's a good teacher, and while there's a mutual effort from both men to help with dinner, the Reader is usually home way before they are. It's a responsibility they wind up with either way.
The current obsession in this house? Red Beans and Rice ✨ specifically from a recipe passed down from Bob's momma herself.
If he's got a day off, Robby can happily spend a whole day in the kitchen. The current favorite dish isn't so much a dish as it is a whole meal; Buttermilk Fried Chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, and fried okra. He can also be trusted with the ol' chicken and dumplings 💕
Unlike Cecelia's, Bob's mashed potatoes are guaranteed not to...stand up on their own...
...still side-eyeing the way they were...kind of curling on the plate...
omg do you think any of them has a sweet tooth?:
Rhett absolutely has a sweet tooth, and I will die on this hill. Coffee that's borderline creamer, milk, and sugar with a side of actual coffee, cheap candy from the local convenience store, his momma's desserts...it can go on forever. It's half the reason Bob calls him Sugar.
Bob and Reader are your average sugar lovers when compared to the fool. There has been an instance where drunk!Rhett brought himself to tears because of course sober!Rhett ate the last damn donut. He can and will sleepwalk to the cabinet as well.
It's horrifying.
He acts perfectly normal. Eyes open, walking normally, munching on something sugary he found. The only way to tell is by asking him a question; if he's asleep, he smiles and doesn't respond.
Please be aware that by handing him your sweet treat, you will never see it again.
💃

Lima: A Day in Barranco
I started my day with a surprisingly good shower in the tiny shared shower block opposite my room, then I decided to try the hostel breakfast as it was Sunday I figured this would be the best day of the week to have breakfast in the hostel as most everything else would likely be closed. I put my order in and paid, then waited patiently at one of the three tables available in the courtyard while watching Rao the Kaclla (healing dog) running around skittishly begging for food. The breakfast cost about 25 soles from memory and it was filling - two warm pita breads, peanut butter, fig jam, yoghurt topped with granola, raisins, apples, banana and papaya slices, organic Peruvian coffee, and papaya juice. After I'd eaten and drank all this and returned my tray, I was also able to get a coca tea to pep me up for the day ahead. I walked out to the Larcomar outdoor mall on the seafront but it was deserted this early in the morning. From here it was about another 30-45 minutes walking around the coastline to reach the Barranco neighbourhood. There were great views from these huge cliffs and of course, many fancy apartment buildings with front row seats on their balconies. My first stop in Barranco was Caleta Dolsa Coffee for a flat white, I had to get takeaway as it was so busy with people outside waiting on the steps for a table. Amazingly, it was cashless to go against the grain of everything else in Peru! I took my coffee back one block into a little park where I could sit and enjoy it while people-watching. I took myself on a random walking tour around the Iglesia La Ermita church and street art of Barranco, which was everywhere so I just chose street by street where I wanted to go. After an hour or so I was tired and needed some lunch and another coffee so I stopped in at Singular for a flat white and smoothie bowl with mango, pineapple, coconut and sunflower seeds. Afterwards I headed back to the church where there was a little market and I bought some alfajores cookies to take back for everyone at work. I found a massive supermarket out there too so I had a look around and used their bathroom before starting the long walk back to Miraflores. On the way back I saw a lot of dogs out for their Sunday walkies, including a cute chihuahua wearing a jacket - there aren't nearly as many strays around Lima as other parts of Peru but I guess Lima is where the money is. At the hostel, I had a rest for a while and ate some plantain chips until it was evening and I felt a little peckish. I'd been given a coupon from PeruHop for a free Pisco Sour at Saha Terraza cocktail so I claimed that and also ordered a plate of cheese tequeños with guacamole dip. After dinner I attempted to find more of those plantain chips from Iquitos but it seems they were something special as they weren't anywhere I looked, nor could I find anything close. Since I had walked 24k steps today, I treated myself to dessert of a slice of Tres Leches cake from the supermarket. That's the new rule going forward, if I do over 20k steps in a day then I can have a slice of cake!

Lughnasadh: The First Harvest
Lughnasadh is a pagan holiday that falls on the first of August to celebrate the beginning of the harvest season. It’s also known as Lughnasa, and Alban Heruin.
This holiday celebrates the abundance of the growing season as we look forward to the rest of the harvest. It's time to give thanks for the first fruits of the harvest, enjoy the fruits of one's labor and to celebrate the abundance of the earth. It is also a time to reflect on the past year and to look forward to the future. Be grateful for the blessings in one's life and appreciate the beauty of the world around us.
The origins of this day are Celtic. According to the lore, the Celtic God Lugh prevailed over the evil Balor, and saved crops from scorching. Lugh is a god of light, healing, and knowledge, and his victory over Balor is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a better future. The crops that were saved from scorching represent the abundance and prosperity that comes with the light of the sun. We give thanks for the light of the sun and celebrate the victory of light over darkness.
Lughnasadh has been interchanged with the Christian holiday Lammas, or Loaf-mass. This holiday also celebrates the abundance of the growing season. It was customary for bread to be baked and blessed at the church. Today, it has been taken up with many neopagan religions, along with Christianity. While today the importance of the first harvest may not be as prevalent today, the idea of spiritual harvest is encouraged. This is a time of growth and renewed energy.
Lughnasadh and Lammas are often interchanged, but it’s important to know that the roots of the holidays are different. In time, they have come together to celebrate the first harvest, celebrate spiritual and personal growth, and enjoy the abundance of the Earth. Celebrate what feels right to you!
If you have set intentions this year and have been working with it through the seasons, now is the time to reflect on how you have grown and what these intentions are bringing you.
Reflect on how your seeds from Imbolc have become ripe and vibrant. Think about all the hard work you put into them, from planting them to watering them and caring for them. Think about how they have grown and changed over time. Be proud of yourself for what you have accomplished. They are a reminder of your own strength and potential. Give thanks for Earth’s bounty and the beauty that surrounds us.
There are many ways to celebrate Lughnasadh. Some people attend festivals, while others hold feasts or go on picnics. Some people also make offerings to Lugh, such as bread or ale.
Here are some ideas for celebrating Lughnasadh:
Go on a walk to observe the changes in nature, check on your garden and gather herbs for spellwork. Go to the Farmer's Market, go apple picking or berry picking.
Spend time in the kitchen or around food, especially those that are associated with the harvest season, can be a great way to connect with nature and the cycle of life. Mess around with new recipes! Bake bread or toast bread you buy with herbs. Eat some late summer fruits.
Have a bonfire, picnic or dinner. Invite friends and family. Share a brew with a loved one.
Decorate your home or alter. Tidy up your house and refresh your altar. Here are some symbols to add to your decor and alter: - wheat, corn, grains, or sunflowers - the colors green, orange and yellow. - animal symbols such as crows, pigs, calves, roosters and salmon. - more herbs, plants and flowers to use are oak trees, apple, basil, marigold, rose, rosemary
Update your witchy journals. Reflect on your talents and goals. Make a gratitude list.
Make Sun Water, used for protection, healing, clairvoyance, happiness, fertility, and creativity. Fill up a jar with water and put it on a windowsill or outside. The perfect time to place it is early morning. Add crystals, herbs and flowers if you want.
Fire and Sun spells are great around this time. Prosperity spells are wonderful too.
Lughnasadh is a time to celebrate the beauty of the natural world and the bounty of the harvest. It is a time to give thanks for all that we have and to look forward to the future. Find ways to celebrate that resonate with you. These are just suggestions that might inspire you!

The Garden's Whisper (EXERCISE 5 DRAFT 2)
In the year 2104, amidst the urban sprawl of Ahmedabad’s vertical farms and technicolor markets, Anika sat on the edge of her terrace, adorned with her grandmother’s gold bangles—or so they appeared at first glance. These were no ordinary chudiyan. Passed down through generations, they had been upgraded over the decades, merging heritage with cutting-edge technology.
Known locally as Jeevan Chudiyan—the "Life Bangles"—these ornaments housed micro-sensors, holographic interfaces, and AI cores capable of performing a variety of tasks. Designed initially as health monitors and personal assistants, Anika’s chudiyan had found an entirely new purpose.
Her terrace was a miniature garden floating above the bustling streets, a stark contrast to the concrete jungle below. Lush green plants grew in carefully arranged pots, vines hung from steel trellises, and a small pond reflected the kaleidoscope of city lights. But Anika wasn’t just a gardener; she was a steward of a dying art—the cultivation of native Indian flora, threatened by climate change and rapid urbanization.
“Begin soil diagnostics,” Anika murmured, and the chudiyan shimmered to life. Holographic menus appeared around her wrists, displaying real-time data: nitrogen levels, soil acidity, and moisture content. One of the bangles emitted a soft hum as it released a precise spray of water infused with organic nutrients.
“What’s next?” she asked, brushing her hair aside.
A voice, warm and conversational, emanated from the bangles. “Neem saplings in corner plot require attention. Aphid infestation detected. Deploying organic solution.”
Tiny nozzles in the bangles sprayed a fine mist over the neem plants. As the aphids scattered, Anika chuckled. Her grandmother had used these bangles for prayers and festive dances, never imagining they’d one day save ecosystems.
But the chudiyan weren’t just tools—they had become partners in her mission. Each day, they presented her with a Menu for Growth, an interactive list of tasks tailored for her garden. Some days it suggested innovative planting techniques or insights from ancient Indian farming practices; other days, it connected her to a global network of urban gardeners, sharing wisdom and seeds.
One evening, while Anika was pruning a marigold bush, the chudiyan vibrated urgently. A red holographic alert flashed: "Unusual atmospheric data detected: Dust storm approaching. Protect the garden."
Anika sprang into action. With a few swipes through the holographic menu, she activated the bangles’ shield function. Invisible nanofibers emerged, weaving a protective dome over the terrace. The wind howled and dust swept across the city, but her garden remained untouched.
As the storm subsided, Anika removed her bangles and placed them on the soil for their nightly patrol. The chudiyan mapped the garden’s health, ensuring every leaf and root thrived. For a moment, she sat back, marveling at how something so deeply traditional had become a lifeline for the future.
The next morning, the Menu for Growth greeted her again, cheerful as ever: “Daybreak Tasks: Time to plant sunflowers. Perfect conditions today!”
Anika smiled, slipping the bangles back on. In a world hurtling toward an uncertain future, her chudiyan were a beacon of balance—a reminder that innovation and tradition could dance together, creating something extraordinary.

Pick of the Month: Downtown Kitchen
AUTHOR: ARTSY CHOW ROAMER
Pick of the Month:
DOWNTOWN KITCHEN
There are a number of high quality, consistently good eating spots in downtown Canton, Georgia. One of our latest favorites for date night dinners is Downtown Kitchen. Claiming not to follow trends but setting the standard, this local favorite wants to provide perfection for your best dining experience.
youtube
HISTORIC DOWNTOWN LOCATION
Located behind the black exterior at 140 East Marietta Street, this cozy casual spot offers bar, booth, table and outdoor patio dining options. Simplicity is the word of the day with entrees changing daily according to market and seasonal availability for a farm-to-table experience from a practiced hand in the kitchen.
We hit the place with friends most recently on a Friday evening without a reservation. We like early dining so the fact that Downtown opens earlier than most is great. At 4:30, we were one of two or three tables and had our pick of where to sit.
COCKTAILs & BREAD
Our waiter arrived with cocktail menus and trays of fluffy fresh bread with a spicy tomato dipping sauce on the side. We looked over the menu and odered a few drinks first. While some of us stuck to the usual like a martini with blue cheese olives, others chose a Tom Collins, a Georgia peach old fashioned and a ginger jackass mule from the make-your-own-mule choices.
Our drinks arrived quickly and perfectly with the right chill, glass choice and garnishes-both pretty and delicious. They were a heavenly match with the bread and spice of the dip. If those don’t do it for you, there are Margarita and Sangria choices as well as a very nice curated menu of white and red wines.
California, Oregon and Washington are represented with a couple of Rieslings, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnays ranging from $7-11 a glass. Italy and Eastern Europe provide some nice Pinots. California and Italy provided some lovely reds like Malbec, Zinfandel and Cabernets ranging from $8-12.
FIRST COURSEs
We opted to order both Caesar and kitchen salad plates for table sharing with our bread and drinks. Both were very good with fresh crisp greens and just the right amount of dressings with anchovy forward creaminess and sweet tangy balsamic vinaigrette.
The caesar had crunchy bits of sunflower seeds for a twist making it even saltier with the sprinkle of parmesan. The kitchen offered juicy grape tomatoes, red onion and crisp cucumber with bits of blue cheese.
SECOND COURSE
Pay attention to the blackboards for the daily soups and specials. We ordered the French onion and fall squash for a second course. Both were a tasty different take on the usual recipes. The broth had a different herb that popped with gruyere cheese instead of Swiss while the squash offered creamy smooth texture and warm herbs like cinnamon and nutmeg.
We also decided to try the Asian tuna tartar. Served in a martini glass, the fish was rough chopped in small cubes and super chilled. Cold avocadoes and chopped green onions were mixed in with a dressing of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar and sesame oil for shut-the-front-door goodness topped off with a crunchy crisp fried wonton chip.
Want other choices? You got them with fried calamari or shrimp, hanger steak wontons or crab cakes. We’ve also had the spinach and artichoke dip mixed with cheese along with tortilla chips for some lip smacking dipping on previous visits.
ENTREES
The kitchen specializes in steak and offers a lot of different items to pair with it should you opt to go that way for your entree. A sirloin, filet, strip or hanger are the four cuts of choice. Your pairings range from Asher blue cheese to mushrooms and chimichurri or horseradish sauces.
We opted to try a special from the board as one choice and took two items off the regular menu as well. Fried green tomatoes came to the table crispy and hot with a touch of sour cream, sweet berry jam and micro greens for a perfect finish. The mushroom raviolis with tomato cream sauce are a menu staple that everyone raves about. They were pretty gosh darn good. Hands down however, the winner was the short ribs over creamy mashed potatoes with crispy fried onion rings. The demi-glace was delicious and hearty while the meat was fork tender.
DESSERTS
A word about desserts. Leave room for some. We decided two to share was about all we could do so pistachio pie and creme brule were the evening picks. The former was creamy and semi-sweet with the crunchiness of fresh nuts on top. The brule classic and prepared properly with the crisp sugar topping to the finish.
COZY DATE NIGHTS
I like sitting at the bar on the weekends just to run in and grab a quick drink sometimes. The interior is casual, dark and cozy which makes for the best date night dinners. The high booths provide privacy and a level of quiet that makes this restaurant unusual as well. Loud experiences are the norm everywhere anymore so this spot makes it easy to have a conversation with your peeps.
youtube
CONCLUSION
This is the same team that brought you Queenie’s and Goin’ Coastal also in downtown Canton. So you can see why this spot should be next on your bucket list whether it’s for date night or a get together with friends. The food is simple, well prepared, fresh and tasty. The seasonal changes mean you won’t tire of the menu. You never know what might be on the blackboard as a special. Grab your better half and check it out soon. Tell ‘em I sent ya OK?
If you enjoyed what you read, you might also enjoy other posts under Edible Fare. There you will find restaurant reviews, recipes, foodie tips and best spots to eat in a variety of cities. Check out the next post on traveling off-season in Italy. Until next time…

How to Start a Profitable Seeds Export Business from India: A Complete Guide
India, with its rich agricultural diversity and vast range of crop varieties, offers tremendous potential for starting a seeds export business. The seeds industry is one of the most economical means to boost agricultural production and is central to food production worldwide. By supplying quality seeds, a significant portion of productivity can be achieved at minimal costs, with 20–25% of productivity directly attributed to seed quality. In this guide, we’ll explore how you can launch and grow a successful seeds export business in India.
Why Start a Seeds Export Business?
Starting a seeds export from India can be a highly profitable venture. India’s seed industry requires relatively lower investment than traditional commercial crops while providing greater profitability. Furthermore, there is a high demand for Indian seeds, including oilseeds, pulses, and various other crops, in global markets. Some of the primary states for seed production include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
Key Steps to Start Seeds Export Business in India
1. Conduct Market Research and Identify Scope
The first step in any export business is to conduct thorough market research. Identify which seeds are in high demand in international markets, understand the policies surrounding seed export, and gain insights into India’s export potential. Some of the most commonly exported seeds from India include sunflower, safflower, mustard, groundnut, sesame, tamarind, cotton, castor, cumin, and chia seeds. India exports $70 million worth of seeds annually, with a significant share going to countries like the United States, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, and China.
2. Obtain Necessary Licenses and Documentation
To export seeds from India, you’ll need to obtain licenses and complete documentation as per the Indian government's regulations. This includes submitting an application to the EXIM Committee of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, which will then recommend it to the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade). Here are some essential documents you’ll need:
Form A
Identity proof (e.g., PAN card, Aadhaar)
Authorization from the company
Treasury Challan for Rs. 1,000
Location map of the business premises
Company registration certificate with Memorandum of Association (MOA)
Importer-Exporter Code (IEC)
3. Gather Key Statistics on Seeds Export from India
Staying informed about the latest data on India’s seed exports is crucial for competitive advantage. For instance, India exported $223.52 million worth of groundnuts in 2023, primarily to Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Understanding these statistics allows you to identify which seeds have high export value and which countries are the main importers.
4. Major Export Destinations for Indian Seeds
India exports seeds to numerous countries across continents. Each type of seed has its leading destination markets. For example:
Oilseeds: United States, UAE, Netherlands, and Singapore.
Groundnuts: Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Iran.
Sesame Seeds: Vietnam, South Korea, the United States, and Russia.
Sowing Seeds: United States, Mexico, UAE, and Bangladesh.
Knowing these primary destinations allows you to focus your efforts on high-demand countries and better strategize your export plans.
5. Identify Potential Seed Buyers
Finding reliable buyers is essential for success in the seeds export business. Participating in trade shows, buyer-seller gatherings, exhibitions, and B2B portals are excellent ways to connect with potential buyers. Some popular platforms like Seair Exim Solutions provide data-driven insights on potential buyers, helping you obtain key information like port names, country of origin, and shipment values.
6. Meet Market Entry and Export Requirements
Each country has its own regulatory requirements for imported seeds, so ensure your seeds comply with your target countries' pest risk analysis and other regulations. This might involve sampling, field trials, or other procedures to confirm seed quality and compliance. When setting prices, consider factors like freight and insurance costs to make your products competitively priced in international markets.
Major Indian Seed Exporters
Many companies in India are already thriving in the seeds export business, setting a benchmark for quality and reliability. Some of the leading seed exporters in India include SeedEXIM, HL Agro, Bombay Super Hybrid Seeds Limited, and Yuvaraju Agro Impex. These companies are known for their seed export expertise and can inspire new entrants.
Conclusion: Establishing Your Seed Export Business in India
Starting a seeds export business in India requires careful planning, in-depth market knowledge, and compliance with various regulations.
