This scene depicts the moment when Svarah got her legend-mark “Sun-Hair” after an enemy archer set her hair on fire & she hadn’t the time to douse the flames during battle! (Also added a version w/o the flames to show off her beautiful hair!)

Ilyena ‘Sunhair’ Therin Moerelle my beloved.

Like we know nothing about her but what’s implied makes me a little crazy.

She’s got three names which implies that she went to and graduated from Collam Daan university or maybe she even worked as a researcher there! Maybe that’s where she met Lews Therin and Demandred. Did she know Lanfear and the other future Forsaken who we know went there? Were they friends before everything went wrong? Did she know Mesaana and the fact her research grant got rejected???????

What made her choose Lews Therin over Demandred (before he turned to the Shadow) and did that affect her friendships with the others as badly as Lanfears and Lews breakup did? Also girl, if you saw the absolute bomb that would have been Lanfear and Lews breakup why would you get with Lews? How much did you love that man!

She was also probably an Aes Sedai and was probably a very powerful Aes Sedai. I don’t have any evidence of this but it feels right. Which also implies that she was a member of the Hall of Servants so what kind of conflict would have sprung up between her and Lews when that split came on how to end the war of power. We know that all the women sided against all the men (bit odd Mr Jordan but ok). So why did she choose to side against her husband? What was that thing that finally pushed her to stand against him.

Which implies that Ilyena was an active participant in the War of Power. Whether as a fighter in the field for the forces of the light or as more of a backseat general she must have been busy, probably fighting Lanfear, but the Lady must have used Bale fire at least once I feel it in my soul.

And what kind of effect would that have had her and Lews relationship? The impact on there family? And is the war what finally pushed them apart enough that they found themselves with opposing ideas of how to save the world, unable to reconcile them. Is that what pushed Lews to seal the bore anyway without the approval of the Hall, his wife and probably without telling Ilyena anything?

And most importantly how did she react to Lews madness after going through all of that together and there possibly being such a rift between them?

Idk I just think that she’s such a cool character and could have been so much and had so much more to her than just being Lews Therins wife that he cry’s over.

Haven’t read high fantasy for the longest time, so I’m excited to be reading Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. Three chapters in and I can already see the tropes:

Rand = hero protagonist

Mat = sidekick, buddy, comic relief

Perrin = the nice one

Moiraine = the wise mentor

Egwene = the love interest??

Nynaeve = the smart one??

Anyway, I have no idea what’s going on.

Also Ilyena Sunhair was a minor character and she’s dead and I already feel so sad for her

Of course, Mat didn't seem to understand anything he was saying. He didn't really see what he did. This world didn't really look like it once had and he couldn't fully decide if that was a good thing or a bad. Whatever it was it felt like something to hold onto for later thinking once he got away from this place and found sometime on his own.

"The gardens. There used to be gardens here. The children used to come and listen to me teach them. They used to love the different Weaves that I would make.' His gaze softened then and he stepped away from Mat, his hands moving to clasp behind his back as he walked a short strip in front of his friend. Mat was still his friend, he held no harm or threat to him.

A million different pictures danced at the back of his head and it was a struggle to clutch onto one. He saw Rand working the fields with Tam, he saw Elan as he and him walked the length of a library together. He saw golden hair and brown hair, red hair. He saw black as night hair and the softest of eyes he had ever seen. It all blurred into one like a mirage that he could barely reach out for.

"I met her at one of those meetings, in a garden like the one that was here." He stated, his voice faraway, dreamy even as he walked. "She liked to watch me with the children, she liked to listen to me and she would even call out for different Weaves for me to make. Her favorites was when I would teach the birds a new song to sing."

He paused, his eyes closing. He could see her face, Sunhair, he could see feel her kiss. Her blood - a sharp breath was taken and he looked towards Mat again. Sadness infiltrated his gaze and he tried his hardest to ground himself. Lews, Rand. It seemed that there was hardly a dividing line anymore. "Our children used to love it too." He stated. "I wonder if they knew what happened to them at the end." Rand was shouting at the back of his mind that this wasn't what was important. This wasn't what mattered but, for the moment, he could barely be bothered.

he's thankful that he doesn't have to answer about taking her with them. taking tylin with them! imagine that. he doubted the bloody woman would even consider it. even if it turned out better for her here. politics always played nasty. and maybe it might be the safer bet if she were to get out once rand stripped her. because he seemed determined as ever to strip her. in spite of mat's protests. he'll have to tell her that he did try. light, but he wasn't meant to see her again. he'll have to tell her.

but he's distracted then. which would have been a good thing only it's rand - and he's talking to him. and it reminds him eerily of the time back in the waste. he wasn't sure how he had known. but he had called him lews therin and rand had responded as if it were the most bloody natural thing in the world! he fells a chill run his spine. he swallows back the feeling, trying to figure out what to say to that.

garden? what bloody garden was he talking about? he didn't know. rand was mad! plain and simple. only there wasn't any danger in the way he was acting. there was just - well, he was acting like what he said was the most natural thing in the world. that was the worst part. maybe a calm mad man was worse than a bloody lunatic.

"what are you talking about?" he asks, looking around the room. he didn't think that rand would give him rooms quite like these. the nicest next to tylin's. maybe he might miss it, the large bed, the expensive food, the company? he shakes the thought from his head and then he makes himself look at him. he doesn't want to look at him. it seems such a terrible thing to look at him. and he's not even sure why. he's rand. blood and ashes, he's just rand.

looking up at him he tries to figure out if there's still clarity in his eyes. but did that really determine madness of not? he studies his face for a moment before he looks away from him with a heavy sigh. one full of defeat more than anything. "what gardens? there aren't any gardens here?" it's unnerving to see him say it so simply, matter of fact. as if he knew for sure that it was there. the thought struck something in him. rand was just mad. and where did that leave the rest of them?

I watched The Wheel of Time Pilot episode: “Winter Dragon” (2015)

Just as a disclaimer: I always thought the intro to “Eye of the World” was not a very good introduction to the series. It’s really weird, and we don’t really have the context of who these characters are/were until much later. It works in the books only because it is over so quickly and then we meet the actual main characters. And I think it’s weird that they would try to start a WOT TV series by introducing these supporting figures instead of the actual main characters of the story. I doesn’t give us a very good idea of what a WOT series would look like, and in that respect I don’t think it was a very good pilot.

However, it was also really interesting for me as a fan of this series, who didn’t like the intro very much at all, to kinda go back and experience the beginning again. Armed with a bit more contexts this time, I actually really enjoyed it!

I really loved a lot of the visuals: with Lews Therin walking around his house, thinking he’s just playing hide and seek with his kids, and how it slowly shifts to a really psychedelic experience…

It was well set up, and it made me wish the whole encounter was longer, so it could have more impact when (spoiler omitted).

One thing I think they could have changed: since they were already taking so much from the format of the book, why not include more of Ishamael’s dialogue? I just remember from the book that he made you feels so hopeless; like he was trying to convince you that freewill doesn’t matter, that the outcome is written in the very fabric of time and nothing Lews Therin ever does will circumvent it. 

It would have really fit with the tone this pilot was going with, and it’s such a powerful statement that it would have made me truly regret that we’ll never get to see, on film, the story that (weirdly) both confirms it AND acts as it’s rebuttal. 

(Also, I don’t understand why a character would be named Illyena SUNhair if  their actual hair is dark brown.)
