Tim Elliott chokes out Sumudaerji in 1st round via arm triangle.
Light work for Elliott. Had to eat a couple of those long left hands from Sumudaerji, but once he got him moving backwards it was only a matter of time before he got him down. And once there, Elliott was able to work to the arm triangle and choke out Sumudaerji who looked completely lost on his back.
A nice win for Elliott who took the fight on like a week's notice if that.

It’s a bit late in the game given the card is two weeks away but the UFC has completed its Beijing showcase with one more Chinese fighter. They’ve signed a guy named Sumudaerji whose record ranges from 7-1 to 10-2 depending on where you look. Whatever the case may or may not be, the 19 year old HAS to be among the youngest fighters currently on the UFC roster. He gets the privilege of welcome back Louis Smolka at bantamweight.

UFC Fight Night: Pereira vs. Hernandez is basically the last Apex card for a long time as the UFC is closing the Apex to for renovations. From the sounds of it, they're going to be putting in space for a crowd of a few hundred to a thousand people.
In complete opposite of the other Apex dreck they've put out, I actually like this card. Pereira vs Hernandez is a fun fight between two guys who have been tearing up the lower levels of the middleweight division. Pereira moved up from welterweight and immediately turned into an explosive KO artist who is destroying fighters inside of like 2 minutes. Hernandez has been finishing everyone they put him in there with over his six fight win streak and is incredibly reminiscent to a fighter like Tristan Connelly, the undersized LW who gave Pereira his first loss in the UFC when he was still the flippy capoeira guy. Extremely compelling match up that will tell us a lot about the limitations of both fighters.
Kyler Phillips vs Rob Font is fun. Font is very much past it, but historically Phillips is not the type of guy who beats him. When Font loses, it tends to come off of big moments where he gets hurt extremely badly and can't really recover. That said, Figs was able to scare him off throwing his jab which is his money punch. A fighter like Phillips is capable of scoring big offense, even if he isn't a big finisher. It'll be interesting to see if Font is able to win wide stretches of this match up without giving up big moments.
Charles Johnson might have dumb opinions about UFC vs non-UFC fighters, but he's a solid flyweight and has finally managed to find consistency after a rough stretch. 3 straight wins, all showing off some good boxing skills. Now he draws Sumudaerji, who is a terrible grappler but a BIG puncher at flyweight. Two tall swanging flyweights. Should be a good fight.
Can't say too much about Brady Hiestand vs Jake Hadley, because while I'm sure I've seen Hiestand fight - I just don't remember him. That said, he's beaten fighters I have seen and Hadley is fun when he isn't held on his back.
Daniel Pineda vs Darren Elkins is the exact type of "old guys, what are we still doing here?" fight I love. Two 40 year old damage sponges still managing to pick up wins off their durability and ability to storm back to deliver violence. Something has to give.
I like Asu Almabayev. I feel like I'm the only person who isn't from Kazakhstan that likes him. I don't find his wrestle heavy game boring because man is tank. Seeing him throw around Jose Johnson was cool. And if he manages to that to someone like Matheus Nicolau, then he is an instant contender. This has stinker potential, but I'm fascinated by the match up.
Bantamweight has a tradition of triple A fighters (shouts to @thesportssoundoff for the phrase). Guys who are clearly too good for the regional scene but get to the UFC and just start losing fights - Luke Sanders, Andre Soukhamthath, Terrion Ware, etc. Guys with fatal flaws or shortcomings that just held them back from finding success. Brad Katona seems like one of those guys. He is a very technically sound all terrain fighter. But he seems to lack the horsepower to compete with these guys at 135lbs. That's why i like this fight with Jean Matsumoto, a very good grappler who will be tested on how adaptable his game is.
I still have hope for Melissa Martinez as a prospect. She's got a very fun game and I hope this fight with Alice Ardelean is a launching point for her. Especially not that it looks like Yazmin Jauregui isn't making a run up the rankings.
Also Robelis Despaigne vs Austen Lane is the exact type of stupid fight that will last 15 seconds or go 15 minutes after both guys get tired after 15 seconds. And I'm here for that as long as it's early in the night.

Matt Schnell survives getting hurt 10x in 2 minutes, stops Sumudaerji in the 2nd!
That second round is going to be a round of the year contender. After a back and forth first that Schnell ultimately, got the better of, Sumudaerji rocked Schnell something like 15 times in the span of 2 minutes. Straight left hands down the pipe and elbows from wrist control had Schnell on skates. He even went down once. But somehow, Schnell continued to just swing back. Then he lands a stiff right hand, takes Sumudaerji and hammers him from mount for like a minute. Sumudaerji manages to reverse position and get on top but gets caught in a triangle and goes out. Absolutely insane sequence of events.

Sumudaerji All Knock Out (Tibetan Eagle)
By: Ngawang Tsering
Tibet’s Sumudaerji (13-4) is has looked great in his last two bouts, taking a UD over Andre Soukhamthath and KO of Malcolm Gordon. He’s set for a quick turnaround as he’s set to face off with Zarrukh Adashev (3-2) at UFC Fight Night: Magny vs Chiesa this Wednesday (Jan. 20).

Sumudaerji vs Zelimkhan Makaev - WLF W.A.R.S. 23
I’m not sure what to think of Chinese prospect Sumudaerji (12-4). Dude got to the UFC off a loss after a relatively weak schedule of regional fighters. Took a submission loss to Louis Smolka (no shame) but rebounded with a great performance against Andre Soukhamthath. Now he’s moving down to flyweight.
I’m hoping he builds off of that win cause his style is really fun. He’ll be fighting Malcolm Gordon (12-4) this Saturday (Nov. 28) at UFC Fight Night Blaydes vs Lewis.

Manel Kape vs. Ode Osbourne
After an extremely dissapointing 0-2 start in the UFC, former RIZIN champion Manel Kape (17-6) has scored back to back first round finishes. While he hasn’t necessarily been more active, his kill shots - like this flying knee - have found their home more readily. He’s hoping to ride that momentum into a positive UFC record.
He is set to face off with fellow hard-hitting flyweight Sumudaerji (15-4) at UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Andrade this Saturday (April 23).

Sumudaerji KOs Malcolm Gordon in the 1st
Figured it’d go this way. Gordon never took a punch well and Sumudaerji has both reach and pop. If Gordon couldn’t get to the mat, it was only a matter of time. That left hand came right down the center too. Nice to know sumudaerji isn’t giving up power or speed with the cut. Was still able to make Gordon face plant. With his build and power, he could be a threat at 125lbs though a win over Gordon isn’t guaranteeing future success.
This and the co-main were the only fights I care about so I’m out. Enjoy if you’re sticking around for this one.

Malcolm Gordon vs Yoni Sherbatov - TKO 47
Canadian flyweight Malcolm Gordon (12-4) finally got to the UFC this year. Did not go great for him as he got ran through and submitted inside of a round. He’ll look to rebound this Saturday (Nov. 28) at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs Lewis when he faces Sumudaerji (12-4).
