I love using an airbrush for cake decorating. The above images is what it looked like when it was given the final colour and I am just in the process of adding details. I need to add some more foliage and make some edible moss for the base of the cake. This is a dummy cake that will act as the bottom tier for my 40th birthday cake. The bottom image is when it was covered with out image. I love making tree stumps in cake as it is a very forgiving cake and the imperfections just add to it the final image.
There is going to be a tall six inch cake in the middle and will ultimately be a Poison Ivy cake
I gradually built the layers up. So I used a black airbrush paint to highlight the creases and bark, let that dry and then Added layers all over using combinations of brown, black and yellow. and finished off with a combination of black and green at various points through out the cake tier.

I've been having a go at sugar paste flowers again (project in mind for future) and I managed to make some orchids! After much workshopping I'm pretty pleased with the results. And yeah I did break one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took a Lot of fiddling to get the centre of the orchid looking right. I was also trying out some different colours and that green is Extremely Green.

Gingerbread project 2023.
I'm adding my yearly gingerbreadbuilds to tumblr, and 2023 it was Lockwood & co themed. It's a British style haunted Georgian mansion with tiny l&c sugarpaste figurines.
It's not as fancy as the tree I made this year, but the windows gave me so much trouble. The caramel kept slowly melting and I'm too much of a perfectionst to let that be. Anyway, enjoy this spooky bake 😊

Cake Artist Creates Astonishing Optical Illusion Cakes
Tumblr media
Ben Cullen, a former tattoo artist turned master of cake illusions, has been captivating the internet with his incredible creations. His cakes range from hyper-realistic fruits and vegetables to life-like human hands, leaving viewers in awe of his talent.
Though Cullen's cakes may seem like the work of someone with years of baking experience, he only discovered his passion for cake decorating five years ago. The spark was ignited when a client, while getting a tattoo, showed him some cake models she had crafted. Intrigued by the artistry, Cullen decided to try it himself, and he was immediately hooked. At the time, he had no baking experience or interest in cakes, but after witnessing the incredible work of other food artists, he was determined to master the craft.
Tumblr media
"My first step was calling my mum to ask how to bake a cake. No joke—I had zero experience or interest in baking before that," Cullen explained. "I made a cake for my dad and a few family members just for fun. But as I continued, I took the process more seriously and started challenging myself with more complex designs."
Having always had a passion for art, the 29-year-old artist quickly brought his tattooing skills into the world of cake-making. His background in airbrushing allowed him to elevate his cakes to a new level of realism, pushing himself to create increasingly intricate designs.
Tumblr media
"Right now, I'm most passionate about creating optical illusions because they grab people's attention—especially those who might not otherwise be interested in the world of cake artistry," Cullen said. "I hope this style can inspire younger generations to explore this art form and maybe even try it themselves."
While the end results of his creations are certainly impressive, Cullen dreams of one day having his own TV show. He envisions a program where viewers can see the behind-the-scenes process—the highs and lows of his cake builds, the research, and the challenges he faces along the way.
Tumblr media
So, what’s the process like when creating one of his edible masterpieces? Cullen usually starts by planning the design in his mind, opting not to sketch it on paper. He then bakes sponge layers, stacking them with chocolate ganache—his preferred choice over buttercream. He carves the cakes into their desired shapes, covers them in sugarpaste, and uses his airbrush to achieve a stunningly realistic effect. Finally, he adds intricate details using a small paintbrush.
"I'm really into airbrushing," Ben admits. "It just feels natural to me—probably because of my tattooing background."

I got lost in the Tower of Zot !
How ironic considering the pseudonym I use for tumblr ... But that's true, I couldn't recognise the similarities of the 2D map and the 3D map, I was too busy completing the discovery and I went head first into the ambush of the magus sisters. With almost zero mp. I'm lucky I'm overleveled and know how this boss battle mechanics works (and it's true there's the auto save on this version). I'm also glad they found a way to make Yang's ability "meditation" a bit useful. I have to say so far, I'm not always happy with the graphic choices of this version, and I regret a bit the mechanical vibe chosen over the space ship aesthetics, but I have to admit it's a very cute design. And Paladin Cecil ... he looks like a sugarpaste figurine. I love it. Yummy Cecil. <3
