4.Tap into the Power of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)
All of us are FOMO-sapiens! None of us like missing out on an after-party discount or a limited-time offer. The feeling of missing out on something attractive and value-adding can nudge visitors into clicking that “Buy Now” button.
Leverage the sense of scarcity to make products and offers appear more exclusive and beneficial by sending FOMO emails. These emails remind your current and potential shoppers of a limited-period deal that they may miss out on.
Brands like Amazon Prime and Oiselle are known to send one of the most effective FOMO emails to their customers.

In FOMO email campaigns, the subject line should do a majority of the heavy lifting in terms of getting the recipient to click through and convert. Take your time to draft the perfect FOMO-packed subject line that’s irresistibly clickable.
That being said, don’t go overboard with this tactic. If you swamp people’s inboxes with “limited-time deals”, they’ll stop believing you and the word “scarcity” would lose its worth.

The 9 biggest questions about Google’s Stadia game streaming service
Google’s Stadia is an impressive piece of engineering to be sure: Delivering high definition, high framerate, low latency video to devices like tablets and phones is an accomplishment in itself. But the game streaming services faces serious challenges if it wants to compete with the likes of Xbox and PlayStation, or even plain old PCs and smartphones.
Here are our nine biggest questions about what the service will be and how it’ll work.
1. What’s the game selection like?
We saw Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (a lot) and Doom: Eternal, and a few other things running on Stadia, but otherwise Google’s presentation was pretty light on details as far as what games exactly we can expect to see on there.
It’s not an easy question to answer, since this isn’t just a question of “all PC games,” or “all games from these 6 publishers.” Stadia requires a game be ported, or partly recoded to fit its new environment — in this case a Linux-powered PC. That’s not unusual, but it isn’t trivial either.
Porting is just part of the job for a major studio like Ubisoft, which regularly publishes on multiple platforms simultaneously, but for a smaller developer or a more specialized game, it’s not so straightforward. Jade Raymond will be in charge of both first-party games just for Stadia as well as developer relations; she said that the team will be “working with external developers to bring all of the bleeding edge Google technology you have seen today available to partner studios big and small.”
What that tells me is that every game that comes to Stadia will require special attention. That’s not a good sign for selection, but it does suggest that anything available on it will run well.

2. What will it cost?
Perhaps the topic Google avoided the most was what the heck the business model is for this whole thing.
Do you pay a subscription fee? Is it part of YouTube or maybe YouTube Red? Do they make money off sales of games after someone plays the instant demo? Is it free for an hour a day? Will it show ads every 15 minutes? Will publishers foot the bill as part of their normal marketing budget? No one knows!
It’s a difficult play because the most obvious way to monetize also limits the product’s exposure. Asking people to subscribe adds a lot of friction to a platform where the entire idea is to get you playing within 5 seconds.
Putting ads in is an easy way to let people jump in and have it be monetized a small amount. You could even advertise the game itself and offer a one-time 10 percent off coupon or something. Then mention that YouTube Red subscribers don’t see ads at all.
Sounds reasonable, but Google didn’t mention anything like this at all. We’ll probably hear more later this year closer to launch, but it’s hard to judge the value of the service when we have no idea what it will cost.
3. What about iOS devices?
Google and Apple are bitter rivals in a lot of ways, but it’s hard to get around the fact that iPhone owners tend to be the most lucrative mobile customers. Yet there were none in the live demo and no availability mentioned for iOS.
Depending on its business model, Google may have locked itself out of the App Store. Apple doesn’t let you essentially run a store within its store (as we have seen in cases like Amazon and Epic) and if that’s part of the Stadia offering, it’s not going to fly.
An app that just lets you play might be a possibility, but since none was mentioned, it’s possible Google is using Stadia as a platform exclusive to draw people to Pixel devices. That kind of puts a limit on the pitch that you can play on devices you already have.
4. What about games you already own?
A big draw of game streaming is to buy a game once and play it anywhere. Sometimes you want to play the big awesome story parts on your 60-inch TV in surround sound, but do a little inventory and quest management on your laptop at the cafe. That’s what systems like Steam Link offer.
Epic Games is taking on Steam with its own digital game store, which includes higher take-home revenue rates for developers.
But Google didn’t mention how its ownership system will work, or whether there would be a way to play games you already own on the service. This is a big consideration for many gamers.
It was mentioned that there would be cross platform play and perhaps even the ability to bring saves to other platforms, but how that would work was left to the imagination. Frankly I’m skeptical.
Letting people show they own a game and giving them access to it is a recipe for scamming and trouble, but not supporting it is missing out on a huge application for the service. Google’s caught between a rock and a hard place here.
5. Can you really convert viewers to players?
This is a bit more of an abstract question, but it comes from the basic idea that people specifically come to YouTube and Twitch to watch games, not play them. Mobile viewership is huge because streams are a great way to kill time on a train or bus ride, or during a break at school. These viewers often don’t want to play at those times, and couldn’t if they did want to!
So the question is, are there really enough people watching gaming content on YouTube who will actually actively switch to playing just like that?

To be fair, the idea of a game trailer that lets you play what you just saw five seconds later is brilliant. I’m 100 percent on board there. But people don’t watch dozens of hours of game trailers a week — they watch famous streamers play Fortnite and PUBG and do speedruns of Dark Souls and Super Mario Bros 1. These audiences are much harder to change into players.
The potential of joining a game with a streamer, or affecting them somehow, or picking up at the spot they left off, to try fighting a boss on your own or seeing how their character controls, is a good one, but making that happen goes far, far beyond the streaming infrastructure Google has created here. It involves rewriting the rules on how games are developed and published. We saw attempts at this from Beam, later acquired by Microsoft, but it never really bloomed.
Streaming is a low-commitment, passive form of entertainment, which is kind of why it’s so popular. Turning that into an active, involved form of entertainment is far from straightforward.
6. How’s the image quality?
Games these days have mind-blowing graphics. I sure had a lot of bad things to say about Anthem, but when it came to looks that game was a showstopper. And part of what made it great were the tiny details in textures and subtle gradations of light that are only just recently possible with advances in shaders, volumetric fog, and so on. Will those details really come through in a stream?
Damn.
Don’t get me wrong. I know a 1080p stream looks decent. But the simple fact is that high-efficiency HD video compression reduces detail in a noticeable way. You just can’t perfectly recreate an image if you have to send it 60 times per second with only a few milliseconds to compress and decompress it. It’s how image compression works.
For some people this won’t be a big deal. They really might not care about the loss of some visual fidelity — the convenience factor may outweigh it by a ton. But there are others for whom it may be distracting, those who have invested in a powerful gaming console or PC that gives them better detail at higher framerates than Stadia can possibly offer.
It’s not apples to apples but Google has to consider these things, especially when the difference is noticeable enough that game developers and publishers start to note that a game is “best experienced locally” or something like that.
7. Will people really game on the go?
I don’t question whether people play games on mobile. That’s one of the biggest businesses in the world. But I’m not sure that people want to play Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey on their iPa… I mean, Pixel Slate. Let alone their smartphone.
Games on phones and tablets are frequently time-killers driven by addictive short-duration game sessions. Even the bigger, more console-like games on mobile usually aim for shorter play sessions. That may be changing in some ways for sure but it’s a consideration, and AAA console games really just aren’t designed for 5-10 minute gaming sessions.
Add to that that you have to carry around what looks like a fairly bulky controller and this becomes less of an option for things like planes, cafes, subway rides, and so on. Even if you did bring it, could you be sure you’ll get the 10 or 20 Mbps you’ll need to get that 60FPS video rate? And don’t say 5G. If anyone says 5G again after the last couple months I’m going to lose it.
Naturally the counterpoint here is Nintendo’s fabulously successful and portable Switch. But the Switch plays both sides, providing a console-like experience on the go that makes sense because of its frictionless game state saving and offline operation. Stadia doesn’t seem to offer anything like that. In some ways it could be more compelling, but it’s a hard sell right now.

8. How will multiplayer work?
Obviously multiplayer gaming is huge right now and likely will be forever, so the Stadia will for sure support multiplayer one way or another. But multiplayer is also really complicated.
It used to be that someone just picked up the second controller and played Luigi. Now you have friend codes, accounts, user IDs, automatic matchmaking, all kinds of junk. If I want to play The Division 2 with a friend via Stadia, how does that work? Can I use my existing account? How do I log in? Are there IP issues and will the whole rigmarole of the game running in some big server farm set off cheat detectors or send me a security warning email? What if two people want to play a game locally?
Many of the biggest gaming properties in the world are multiplayer focused, and without a very, very clear line on this it’s going to turn a lot of people off. The platform might be great for it — but they have some convincing to do.
9. Stadia?
Branding is hard. Launching a product that aims to reach millions and giving it a name that not only represents it well but isn’t already taken is hard. But that said… Stadia?
I guess the idea is that each player is kind of in a stadium of their own… or that they’re in a stadium where Ninja is playing, and then they can go down to join? Certainly Stadia is more distinctive than stadium and less copyright-fraught than Colosseum or the like. Arena is probably out too.
If only Google already owned something that indicated gaming but was simple, memorable, and fit with its existing “Google ___” set of consumer-focused apps, brands, and services.

Google’s Stadia is an impressive piece of engineering to be sure: Delivering high definition, high framerate, low latency video to devices like tablets and phones is an accomplishment in itself. But the game streaming services faces serious challenges if it wants to compete with the likes of Xbox and PlayStation, or even plain old PCs and smartphones.
Here are our nine biggest questions about what the service will be and how it’ll work.
1. What’s the game selection like?
We saw Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (a lot) and Doom: Eternal, and a few other things running on Stadia, but otherwise Google’s presentation was pretty light on details as far as what games exactly we can expect to see on there.
It’s not an easy question to answer, since this isn’t just a question of “all PC games,” or “all games from these 6 publishers.” Stadia requires a game be ported, or partly recoded to fit its new environment — in this case a Linux-powered PC. That’s not unusual, but it isn’t trivial either.
Porting is just part of the job for a major studio like Ubisoft, which regularly publishes on multiple platforms simultaneously, but for a smaller developer or a more specialized game, it’s not so straightforward. Jade Raymond will be in charge of both first-party games just for Stadia as well as developer relations; she said that the team will be “working with external developers to bring all of the bleeding edge Google technology you have seen today available to partner studios big and small.”
What that tells me is that every game that comes to Stadia will require special attention. That’s not a good sign for selection, but it does suggest that anything available on it will run well.

2. What will it cost?
Perhaps the topic Google avoided the most was what the heck the business model is for this whole thing.
Do you pay a subscription fee? Is it part of YouTube or maybe YouTube Red? Do they make money off sales of games after someone plays the instant demo? Is it free for an hour a day? Will it show ads every 15 minutes? Will publishers foot the bill as part of their normal marketing budget? No one knows!

Luxury brands raise prices all the time, but the timing of Chanel’s latest hike takes some guts. Fears about the longevity of China’s spending boom have hammered shares of brands like Prada and Gucci-owner Kering. Privately held Chanel is sending a different message: that its brand is, if anything, still undervalued. Chanel may feel its size and reputation grant some immunity from the ups and downs of the global business cycle. The switch to a price harmonisation strategy in recent years, ending a longstanding practice of setting prices higher in Asia, likely emboldens the brand: the latest hike will be applied globally, and therefore won’t send Chinese tourists bag hunting overseas at a time when customs may be cracking down on luxury imports.
The Bottom Line: Chanel’s move presents a challenge to brands that consider themselves true luxury but may be more cautious on pricing given the uncertain economic climate.

The Trump administration slapped a 10 percent tariff on Chinese leather goods in September, part of a broader trade war between the US and China

Last week, Kering and Moncler offered some solace to fashion brands worried China's slowing economy, a customs crackdown, an escalating US-China trade war or all three would crater sales. Tapestry and Steve Madden are unlikely to break from that consensus when they report results Tuesday, but could offer new details on the impact of tariffs that starting in September raised the cost of handbags, belts and other leather goods imported from China by 10 percent. Tapestry makes less than 5 percent of its bags in China, according to Piper Jaffray, but enough that tariffs could still bite. Bags are less important to Steve Madden’s bottom line (and shoes weren't included in the list of goods subject to the tariff), but those it does sell are almost exclusively manufactured in China.
The Bottom Line: The fashion industry has every incentive to project optimism and hold the line on pricing, at least through the all-important holiday season. The bill comes due on Jan. 1, when Trump's tariffs jump to 25 percent.

15 Things The Best Sales Closers Taught Me About Selling Online
#1 Prospects rarely buy the first time you ask.
One of my early sales mentors explained that all the best relationships start with a No. (His wife had refused to marry him a number of times before eventually saying yes)
And so it is with selling, you will hear No more often than Yes.
How does this apply to making money online?
Consider an email sequence for a typical product launch…
a) a launch email… telling you about the product.  Explaining how it solves a particular problem or pain. Normally, there will be scarcity, limited numbers of memberships etc available. This will be your first opportunity to buy.
b) a followup email telling you of a success story related to using the product and a reminder of everything that is included.  Another opportunity to buy.
c) an FAQ type email, listing questions people are asking followed by answers.  Another opportunity to buy.
That’s only three emails, most product launches consist of 5 – 6 emails.
And most of the sales come in the last few hours of a promo!
It is human nature to procrastinate.
It was that way for me as a rookie salesman back in 1982 and it is still the same today.
In a recent affiliate promotion, I was party to, 12.5 % of the sales came with the first email, a further 25% on the second email and a whopping 62.5% of sales on the 3rd email.
Imagine how things would be if the affiliate had only sent one email?  And imagine what may have happened if the affiliate had emailed 4 times or even 5.
I do not advocate pressure selling.
However, if you believe your subscriber or prospect will benefit from your product and it is in their best interest to own it, you should take the time to explain your offering in detail and why it is in their best interest to own.
In any case, if your subscriber does not like your offering or is put off my your emails, they can unsubscribe.
The best internet marketers actively encourage subscribers to unsubscribe if they are not a buyer.
If your products help people save money, make money, lose weight, live longer or enhance their life in any way, customers will thank you for helping them to buy!
The best sales closer believes they are doing a disservice if they do not close the sale and the prospect has to buy elsewhere.
The top sales closers are almost evangelical in their belief in their product.
#2 Top Sales Closers, use Questions to Sell
I remember it like it was yesterday, the first time a sales mentor told me selling is asking, not telling.
He was quite clear – telling was a waste of time!
Asking was where the money is!
As soon as I started applying it my sales skyrocketed!
Example Questions:
What concerns do you have? [What is the pain? Why are you looking for a new car today? a new home? ]
What’s the most important priority to you with this purchase? [The No 1 thing they want to fix/solve]
What prompted you to look into this?
If you are selling offline and responding to an Internet inquiry ask:
How did you find our website?
9 times out of 10 the answer will be via GOOGLE.
You then ask, what search term did you use to find us?
The answers you get, allows you to adapt your sales presentation to the prospect rather than reciting some ‘canned sales pitch’
Above all, asking questions removes pressure in face to face selling.
How does this apply to selling online?
Clever copywriters ask questions in sales copy. However, there is one important distinction…
Only ever ask questions that prompt your prospect to give the answer you want.
In sales copy, the answer should never be ‘I don’t know’.
Here is one particular style of questioning you will often come across…
It is the open-ended question: “Who else wants __________________?”
This type of question works because it implies lots of people are already getting X result.
e.g.
“Who else wants to learn these secret copy-writing strategies?”
“Who else wants to learn a second language in 30 days?”
Questions need not be exclusively about making sales.
Many Internet Marketers use surveys to research buyers motivations prior to creating a product.
Tools that allow you to do this include Survey Monkey  – but there are others.

The best salespeople LOVE to tell stories … and they are great at telling them.
People remember well-told stories and in a competitive sales situation, the best storyteller wins!
Telling stories sets you apart from your competition and make you stand out.
Better still combine that story with the benefits of your product and you will create a memorable and positive association with your product in the customers head.
All the most successful companies have a great story (or two)
A great place to start is with a Founders story…
How the founder came to create the product.
Richard Branson is a great example of this.
Stories create curiosity.
Stories allow your prospect to experience ownership of your product or service in the present moment.
Stories give you license to say things to your prospects that might otherwise be risky or too personal that in turn trigger powerful emotions that motivate your prospect to buy.
and above all…
Stories allow you to make a personal connection with your potential buyers.

#4 The Best Sales Closers are Great Listeners

If you stop and really listen the prospect will tell you why they should own your product. Especially so if you guide them with the right kind of questions. Importantly, the less you talk and the more you listen, the less pressurized the sales environment will be.

Create guest posts for external websites. Guest posts can get you and your products in front of relevant audiences (oftentimes for free). Submitting guests posts will also help you get more domain authority for your ecommerce site, thereby telling search engines that you have a reliable site. You’ll need to search for sites that rank for keywords related to your product. Sometimes you won’t even need to create an entire post. If a site already has a relatable post, offer to expand on it by providing additional context, like a video or infographic with a link to your site. Put product-related videos on YouTube. YouTube has over a billion active users … chances are your target audience is somewhere in there. It’s also the second-largest search engine behind Google. If you’re looking for a massive, captive audience, YouTube is where you’ll find it. Use highly searched keyword terms to determine your topics, then share videos that are related to your product and helpful to your audience. This is also a great option for tutorial videos that show current customers how to use your product — these videos can show people how best to use your product, increasing customer satisfaction and building long-term relationships with website visitors.
Include a keyword-driven FAQ section on your website. If your audience is asking questions related to your product, then you need to be the one to answer them. Create an FAQ page on your website with responses to high volume, long-tail keyword searches to get users to your site. You’ll be building both authority and traffic — two crucial components of a successful ecommerce store. Search Engine Marketing Search engine marketing (SEM) includes both search engine optimization (SEO) and paid advertising. While SEO relies on your knowledge of Google’s ranking algorithm to optimize content, SEM can involve pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns, display campaigns, or product-specific ad campaigns (think Google Shopping), which allow you to pay for top spots on search engine results pages. On Google, PPC campaigns guarantee that potential buyers will see a link to your page when they enter search terms that match the terms of your campaign. But because you’re paying Google each time a person clicks on your result, the payoff to you should be high. This is why ecommerce marketers often register with Google AdWords and promote their product pages through PPC campaigns. The campaign puts searchers right in front of the business’s product when they click on a paid result, increasing the likelihood that the searcher will make a purchase before leaving the business’s website. Email Marketing Email marketing is one of the oldest forms of digital marketing, and believe it or not, it holds specific value in the world of ecommerce marketing. The best part about email marketing is it can be automated. Automation means that you can set up a successful drip campaign to subscribers that are segmented by interest or stage in the buyer’s journey and  let your email campaign do its magic. It’s one less marketing tactic that you need to worry about on your long list of tasks. Even so, it’s imperative that you’re meticulous about your email list so you maintain trust among your leads. In a time when data privacy runs high on an internet user’s priority list, not every commercial email is welcome in that user’s inbox. Ecommerce marketers need to be careful when and how they add website visitors to their mailing list. Here are two ways an ecommerce marketer might use email marketing.
1. Post-Purchase Follow Up If a user has already purchased a product from your website — and agreed to receive emails from you during the checkout process — sending a follow-up email a few days after the product is delivered keeps the conversation going and gauges their future interest in your product line. A post-purchase follow up also shows that you care about them beyond a sale and that your company has an interest in their success using your product. It gives you an opportunity to get feedback on their purchase experience, which, in turn, helps you reduce friction for future customers. Some best practices for this type of email are to ask them to write a review of your product and/or read original content on how to use your product (those YouTube videos you created would be perfect here). 2. The Abandoned Shopping Cart Users abandon their shopping carts for a number of reasons, and emails to diagnose the problem and retain their business can make the difference between a purchase and a lost customer. We’ll cover ways to reduce shopping cart abandonment below. If a website visitor fails to complete a transaction while they’re in your shopping cart, consider sending a polite email to remind them to complete the checkout process, offer assistance, or recommend other related products to get their mind back on you and their browser back to your ecommerce store. The term is commonly used to denote Instagram accounts with several thousand followers, but it could also mean a celebrity or community that your target audience follows or belongs to. Influencers build communities of people that know, like, and trust them. It is, therefore, easy for them to garner attention around your online product through a recommendation, or “sponsored post.” Affiliate Marketing 81% of brands employ affiliate marketing, and ecommerce sites are particularly good candidates. Affiliates are people or businesses that help sell your product online for a commission. Unlike most social media influencers, affiliates generate interest in products via old fashioned (yet effective) marketing tactics. They often use paid advertising, content marketing, and other means to drive traffic to your their pages on your product — it’s like having a team market for you. Local Marketing This is an often-overlooked tactic for ecommerce businesses, but local marketing allows you to double down on the areas where most of your prospects are (if you have a large population of them in one area) and allows you to offer incentives to your potential customer base. Here’s how: use tracking cookies to determine where your prospects are located. Then, offer discounted (or free) shipping to potential customers in the areas where you have warehouses or shipping facilities. The incentive might be just what you need to gain a new customer.

There are countless ecommerce marketing tactics that you can employ to drive visitors to your online store beyond the traditional methods that we reviewed above. Let’s get into some more creative ways you can market your ecommerce business. 1. Use personalization. Companies that use personalization are seeing revenue increases ranging from 6-10%. What is this magic bullet? Personalization is finding ways to cater to individuals within the marketing materials that you already have; it is tailoring your outputs to reflect the unique needs of your consumer. This can come in the form of a prospect’s name in the subject line of an email, recommended content or products based on a visitor’s behavior, or even showing smart content on a webpage when a user visits for a second time or has moved along their buyer’s journey. Personalization can move people along their buyer’s journey faster — instead of searching for what they need, you put it right in front of them, making it easy for them to take your desired action, that is, make a purchase. 2. Capitalize on user-generated content (UGC). What if you could have your customers market for you for free? That’s exactly what user-generated content, or UGC, is. It’s about finding ways for your customers to promote and share your business. This helps in a couple ways: 1) It drives traffic to your ecommerce store, and 2) it builds an authentic following of people who are interested in what you offer. Coca-Cola® did an amazing job of this with their “Share a Coke” campaign by creating customized Coke® bottles with people’s names, which naturally was shared across social media platforms.
Here are some effective ways to drive UGC: Competitions, where customers enter to win by displaying your product in some way Review platforms, where customers share feedback about your product Social media hashtags, where users submit content using a branded hashtag 3. Build a loyalty program. A loyal customer is a long-term customer, and who doesn’t want repeat business? A loyalty program provides an incentive for a customer to continue doing business with you through relevant offers and discounts. While building a customer loyalty program takes some planning and work, it pays off in repeat business, UGC, referrals, and retention. There are a couple of things to consider as an ecommerce business when building out a loyalty program. For one, consider diversifying the ways in which customers can show loyalty, whether it be through repeat purchases, mentions on social media, or sharing your content. Also, think about how you will pay off their loyalty, be it through points, discount codes, or exclusive perks. Generate Word-of-Mouth Marketing (WOMM) Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the most powerful marketing tools out here. It’s based on the premise that people want advice from others like them. As buyers becoming more skeptical of marketing tactics from companies, the need for word-of-mouth marketing in your business becomes more apparent. While you can make this to happen organically by providing a great customer experience, you can also encourage, and even create, forms of WOMM that are equally as effective.
Reviews Remember how I just said that prospects trust companies less and less? Well, customer reviews help mitigate that mistrust because they come from people who are not invested in the success of your company — instead, they’re an authentic and oftentimes brutally honest review of your product and how it worked out for them. Reviews serve as marketing tools for you because they include mentions of your product and oftentimes they do the selling for you … people think, “If it worked for them, it might work for me, too.” Encourage your customers to leave reviews however you can, and that post-purchase email we talked about above might be a good start. Referral Marketing When customers solicit their friends, family members, and co-workers to buy from you, that is a referral. Sure, this may happen naturally if they really enjoy your product, but you can ensure that it happens more frequently through a referral program. Simply ask your customers to refer others in exchange for something of value (e.g. discount, money, free gift) that you can offer to either your new customer, your existing customer, or both. Dropbox does a good job of this — they offer additional cloud storage space when you refer a friend to sign up. Source Testimonials You can use customer testimonials to get the word out about how great your product is. Testimonials are essentially tailored reviews because you typically produce them from interviews where you can ask specific questions that get to the points you want to address and share with prospects. Being that you have an ecommerce store, some topics you might want to focus on for your testimonial interviews would be ease of the buying process, the level of customer support, and frictionless delivery and setup methods.
Case Studies Case studies allow you to promote customers’ successes in a way that pushes prospects over the edge. They are meant to relate to your buyer persona, so you should interview customers that most closely represent your target audience. Case study best practice is to show a customer’s life before your product and how it has drastically improved since. 4. Invest in live chat. Chatbots — you’ve heard about them, right? Well, they’re one of two ways to employ a live chat strategy. Depending on your business size, you can have a live person available to chat with potential customers who visit your store. Whether you decide to go the bot or human route, live chat will prove especially effective while people are browsing your store so they can get answers right away and when they’re in the checkout process to mitigate any objections just before buying.
5. Cater to the shopping cart. We discussed the reasons why people abandon their shopping cart above, and a lot of it has to do with trust in your business, in the product, or in the delivery system. You want to give customers every reason to want to buy from you without hesitation by confronting their objections head on. Some ways to mitigate shopping cart abandonment are: Money-back guarantees A clear and simple return policy Superior delivery options Immediate access to customer support 6. Implement a responsive website design. No matter which aspect of your ecommerce strategy you’re working on, it should include a responsive design. Your ecommerce marketing tactics will be viewable and easily maneuverable via any device (e.g. laptop, smartphone, iPad or tablet). Meaning, in a world where people are always on-the-go and visiting websites and viewing ecommerce marketing materials via a variety of devices from an array of locations, your content will be easy to read and simple to navigate for all users. Ecommerce Marketing Strategy Now that you know the ins and outs of ecommerce marketing, let’s put it all together and review some tips for building a successful marketing plan for your online store. Set goals based on industry benchmarks. Depending on your industry, location, business size, and a multitude of other factors, there are some standards you can use to measure your goals against — those standards are industry benchmarks. Consider goals like website visits, click-through rates, conversion rates, and customer acquisition cost and compare those to other ecommerce business in your field. Break down your strategy into small tactics. When building out a marketing plan for your online store, there are several paths you could follow — we listed many of them above. It can be tempting to chase after every single one, but that’s a sure way to not be effective at any of them. We recommend that you focus on a couple key strategies first that you believe will have the most ROI — and are the most accessible to you — and create action items for each. For example, say you decided that you wanted to focus on a paid strategy to drive users to your store. A few of your action items would be: set up a Google Ads account, determine your ad spend, create an ad group based on your target keywords, and monitor your account daily. This may sound oversimplified — that’s because it should be. You don’t want to get lost in chasing the next “great ecommerce strategy” without executing on one thoroughly and allowing it to work for you. Delight your new and long-term customers. Marketing doesn’t stop after a sale is made. Once someone becomes your customer, you should continue to engage, nurture, and delight them. This way, you’ll support your customers’ long-term success which, in turn, will boost loyalty. It’ll also make your customers want to share their positive experiences with your leads and target audience members through cause studies, reviews, testimonials, and word-of-mouth. See How This Baby Food Brand Brought in 14,000+ Email Subscribers
You should never underestimate the power of a good email address, especially if you’re an ecommerce marketer. Get the right email from the right prospect, and you can build a long-term relationship that’ll make them want to buy from you over and over again.
This is something Kelsey Rostad, Marketing Manager at the design and marketing studio Banan, knew would be important for her client, Love Child Organics. Kelsey loved working with this organic baby food brand so much that she sometimes thought of them as a fast-growing child of her own.
Love Child Organics is a personal favorite client of mine. I love them so much because they’re super wholesome. Their brand is just so well developed … it’s a lot of fun to do their marketing.
So when Kelsey found out Love Child Organics was interested in selling some of their baby food products online, she knew what they had to do: start building a stronger email marketing list.
Over the course of about a year, Kelsey used Unbounce-built landing pages and social ads on Facebook and Instagram to grow Love Child Organic’s email marketing list from 2,000 to more than 16,000 subscribers. The Challenge: How Do You Turn Instagram Followers Into Email Subscribers?
When Kelsey started working with Love Child Organics, the brand was already kinda Insta-Famous, with an impressive 25,000 Instagram followers. But despite their strong presence on social media, only 2,000 parents had signed up to be email subscribers. To Kelsey, this was a sign of a disconnect.
The client saw a lot of value in social media, which is great. But I knew that to get directly into a consumer’s inbox would be so much more important and so much more valuable.
But why not just market to the parents who were already following them on Instagram? Kelsey knew this would be part of their growth strategy, but that they couldn’t rely solely on social media to drive sales.
A lot of marketers are having issues with organic reach when it comes to social media. So even if you have 25,000 followers, you might only be reaching 2,000 of them per post. And are they even looking at it?
With their social media channels, Kelsey could never be totally in control of what her audience would see. (Plus, maybe all the moms would switch over to TikTok next week, who knows?) If they were going to launch as an ecommerce brand in the future, Love Child Organics needed a direct line of communication that they could rely on for years to come.
Whenever we launch a new product or a new campaign, we need to be able to go directly to the customer. It wouldn’t cost us any extra money once we got those emails.
The Solution: The Lookalike Strategy That Created a Baby Food Email Boom
To start collecting email addresses from interested parents, Kelsey knew she would have to create a compelling offer. And using landing pages would be the best way for her to put a spotlight on that offer.
Really, it comes down to telling the brand story in the best way possible. Unbounce helps us build landing pages that do that—while also guiding the eye towards the conversion.
Kelsey used Unbounce to quickly create an on-brand landing page that would help sell her idea: a free, printable coupon. In exchange for an email address, parents would be able to claim this exclusive offer.

To drive traffic to this page, Kelsey set up a series of ads on Facebook and Instagram that would specifically target new parents in Canada with children of a certain age. They also set up ads that would retarget their current social audience, past website visitors who weren’t already on the newsletter list, and a lookalike audience of current newsletter subscribers.
The campaign used social ads that linked to an Unbounce landing page. We focused on Facebook and Instagram for our ad strategy, because we knew that that’s where millennial moms were.

But while the campaign performed well, Kelsey knew that a free coupon wasn’t the most financially sustainable way to acquire new email addresses. That’s when she decided to create a piece of content marketing that new parents wouldn’t be able to resist.
We were getting a lot of questions on social media. ‘How do I introduce this food to my child? What should I make for them?’ So we created a comprehensive guide, all about introducing solid food to kids.

Kelsey whipped up a new, on-brand landing page to highlight this offer using Unbounce, and started pointing social ads towards this gated resource. To help make sure she was targeting the right parents, Kelsey created a lookalike audience in Facebook based on the people who had already downloaded the PDF.
We found that once we got enough downloads of the solids guide PDF, that we had enough data from Facebook to create lookalike audiences of people that were actually downloading the PDF. And that really lowered our cost per acquisition because we were targeting essentially the exact same type of people who had already converted.
By using lookalike audiences, Kelsey was able to hone her targeting so the social ads hit exactly the right audience of health-conscious parents.
The Results: 16,000+ Email Subscribers and Counting
Both campaigns performed above and beyond Kelsey’s—and the client’s—expectations. In less than a year, Love Child Organics went from having around 2,000 email subscribers to over 16,000.
Even better, Kelsey says they were able to use A/B Testing in Unbounce and refined ad targeting to help lower their cost-per-email-acquisition. The coupon landing page started with a conversion rate of 43% and an average CPA of $2.00, but eight months later ended up converting at 69% with a CPA of $1.30—that’s a 60% increase in conversion rate!
We tested a lot of images. So should the baby be sitting in a high chair? Should they be with their mom? What age should they be? We actually found that photos of toddlers performed better than photos of babies, which was really surprising for us.
Banan A/B tested different photographs of babies and toddlers to see which images performed better on their landing pages.
Using similar tactics, Kelsey was able to bring down the CPA for the Solid Foods Guide landing page from $3.00 CPA to $2.00 CPA over a four-month period. This was a big win for the client, since they no longer had to give away free coupons to get those email subscribers in the door.
And as Love Child Organics looks towards launching as an ecommerce brand in the future, Kelsey says Unbounce will help them create landing pages that put their products in the best possible spotlight.
We are definitely anticipating using landing pages to communicate any new products. They’re a great way to talk about the different ingredients, the benefits, the nutritional value … I find that plain old product pages aren’t the best way to introduce a new product like that.
