High-performance, high-efficiency automatic ECVT.

In 1987, Subaru was the first to successfully commercialize the automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), which manufacturers around the world were developing as the ideal transmission.

This is Subaru's ECVT, which incorporates unique cutting-edge technology. Unlike conventional transmissions that change gears by combining gears, this transmission uses a special steel belt and a pair of pulleys to change gears continuously, achieving high performance and efficiency that could not be achieved with conventional automatic or manual transmissions.

The mechanics and driving are all new. Numerous features exclusive to the ECVT.

ECVT is an electronic transmission that precisely controls the clutch engagement and disengagement.

It uses a controlled electromagnetic clutch. It achieves the smooth start and stop that only an ECVT can provide. In addition, because the pair of pulleys is directly connected by a special steel belt, the lockup works across the entire range, providing strong acceleration that always responds to the amount of pressure applied to the accelerator. There is no loss due to slippage of the torque converter like in a general automatic transmission, making it possible to achieve extremely high efficiency and low fuel consumption.

Because it is a stepless gear change, there is absolutely no shock when changing gears. Moreover, because it constantly selects the gear ratio that best brings out the engine's performance, it always enables efficient driving.

It automatically selects the most efficient gear ratio and keeps engine speed as low as possible while driving. Moreover, since there is no slip loss like in conventional automatic transmissions, it is extremely fuel efficient.

Ds range
