//day 1 of 100//
feeling productive as a multidisciplinary designer is difficult especially when there’s no definitive project in progress.
i’m trying this productivity challenge here on tumblr since it’s the app drawing my attention away from “work” or “productivity”.
hoping it helps me understand that sometimes productivity looks like a 3 instead of a 7 & that i’m always making progress, however small.
~ Mé
TOP 3:
• notes of a sermon from a new church
• a few natural moments captured
• gave myself the clarity i needed

Statement of Intent
A friend encouraged me to start a studio blog -- to get less curated and a little more accessible; to think out loud and share what’s happening in my studio as I’m working. We’ve been trained to curate ourselves and present ourselves and our work the best we can. But if as an artist my main focus is on the process, how better a way to share the process than while i’m in the middle of it...
Anyway, this is a first post. Welcome to my studio blog. I don’t know how often i’ll post. We’ll see!

Creating the physical for Draws Creature Mask’s single ‘Hibernal’
The concept behind the ‘Hibernal’ CD sleeves was to create a unique hand crafted physical that thematically reflected my original artwork and painting.
Initial attempts to print the DCM symbol onto the sleeves was surpisingly ticky. I attempted multiple techniques that included lino printing, mono printing, spray painting with an acetate template and even free hand.
The band and I agreed that the cases were to have the same vibrancy, texture and movement as my original painting. Creating the same sense of immediacy with the brush strokes was important in keeping the art thematic and added depth to the physical sleeves.
I experimented and media tested many different techniques in an attempt to apply the symbol in a clean and graphic way. Nothing seemed to achieve the clean, sleek finish that the band and I desired from the sleeves and it seemed to work counter to piece, not allowing the brush strokes to breathe.
After many attempts to find a clean and efficiant way to replicate the symbol, we then decided that the sleeves looked more complete with the painting and the linear drawings alone. This allowed the minimalistic art more room to breathe, each copy having uniquely destinct characteristics.
It was essential that the sleeves had a hand crafted aesthetic as they were limited to fifty copies and inteded to offer a unique and special piece of the bands history. I then collaborated with the bands drummer Lee, who took the digital copy of my art into Photoshop. The symbol, credits and title were then applied to the front and back of the CD insert and the art was prepped for CD duplication.
If you’re interested in grabbing yourself a copy, physical or digital - You can do so over on the bands merch page below. If you would like to commission me to do similar work please get in touch at [email protected].

End of year
Reflecting on all the wonderful projects from the year and the projects I am closing out the year with, I am filled with joy!
Quite significant year for me...the growth I was able to endure and achieve this year leaves me excited for what is to come. My goal for next year is to create a blog space on my website where I include studio notes from current projects and upload workshop lesson plans for educators!
I’d like to thank everyone who has hired me, collaborated or supported me for any project this year!
Also, I’d like to update the world that I gained citizenship this summer. Quite a beautiful ceremony and cherish the journey to achieving citizenship.
Best,
N

Bunk Bed Tips
Bunk beds are the epitome of our childhood dreams. Reminiscent of summer camp, or big family vacations. Maybe you grew up on a bunk bed and don’t feel as excited about them, but you have to admit they’re convenient for space planning.
Here are the best tips and tricks when designing your own bunk bed!
BUILD BASICS
Let’s start with the basics! The spaces between each bunk should be about 40 inches, with the mattress next to the bunk. If your ceilings don’t exceed 9 feet, it might be a little difficult to build a bunk with substantial space. For really high ceilings you can add built-in drawers or even a trundle bed!!
These rustic white oak built-in bunk beds are bright and youthful, with wire details on the railing as an industrial feature. We keep styling in each bunk room uniform and streamlined, so we use the same pillow and throw styling for each bed. It brings the space together and feels cohesive! We stuck with a gender-neutral green, for the pillows.
It’s convenient for each bunk to have control over the lighting, so choose one with a switch plate. Think about how much the kids rough house and move around. You don’t want a light fixture that’s too ornate or fragile. We like to stay clear of paper shades.
If you have an open window between the bunks, it’s the perfect opportunity to add a window seat! We maximize comfort by getting custom cushion seating. Add throw pillows for bonus cosiness.
We also had an opportunity to create built-in openings that could host frames, books, and more. Sure, they’re convenient but they’re also just beautiful, and tie in with the storage drawers lining the bottom of the bunks.
THINK ABOUT THE KIDS
This feels like a no brainer, but it’s important! Think about the safety and comfort of the people who get to actually enjoy the space. We start by using an LED lightbulb because they don’t get hot.
Outlets can be a polarizing topic when it comes to safety. You don’t want your younger kids playing with them or sticking anything in there!! But it’s also nice for the older kids to have somewhere to charge. Most new outlets have a tamper-proof safety feature, but you never know!!
Be carful when designing rails for the top bunks— find the balance between high enough that the kids don't roll off versus making the bunk look like a prison cell.

Development - Scanning in layered drawings
With my layers of drawings on a mixture of tracing paper, cartridge paper and acetate. I began to layer my expressive drawings, playing around with different colours and textures. I really love these images I think they have an atmospheric feeling by the frosty overlay of tracing paper and the cold powder blue colour against the cold greys.
These works are a step forward in terms of expressing confusion through the tangled up linear movements and the slight mix of colour that intertwine in the images.
I think my next step would be to possibly project these images on to a wall and play around with scale. I would quite like to enlarge these images up to A0. I wonder what impact it would give?
