The Cure announce Wish 30th anniversary reissue

The band's seminal 1992 album is to receive the deluxe treatment - with a vinyl remaster, a set of rarities, plus a replica of the much sought-after "Lost Wishes" cassette of outtakes.

The Cure are set to release a 30th anniversary edition of their album Wish later this year.

The band's ninth studio album was originally issued on 21st April 1992 and featured the hits Friday I'm In Love, High and A Letter To Elise. It was the group's first - and to date, only - Number 1 album in the UK.

The new edition, which is released on 7th October 2022, will see the album officially pressed on vinyl for the first time in 30 years, plus a 3-CD collection which includes 24 previously-unreleased tracks of demos, outtakes and live recordings. The double vinyl set will follow on 25th November.

As an extra bonus, the tracks from the rare Lost Wishes cassette will be included - these four instrumental outtakes from the album sessions were originally released on a mail-order only cassette in 1993. Fans will be able to buy a replica of the tape as part of the new 30th anniversary package and the opening track, Uyea Sound, has been remixed and released as a trailer for the new collection. Wish has been remastered at Abbey Road Studios by frontman Robert Smith and Miles Showell. Smith says of the album: "There’s a side to the album which I had kind of forgotten, a very gentle, yearning thing which is quite beautiful. Trust is one of the best things we’ve ever done I think, it’s played with great feeling, and To Wish Impossible Things is another gorgeous, melancholic piece… in fact it could well be my favourite song on the record.”

Smith says that he had a plan for the making of Wish, which was the follow-up to the hugely successful Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987) and Disintegration (1989): "The overall sound was in my head from the start. We used a pretty small palette of sounds, as we did with Disintegration, but managed to create a lot of different kinds of song with it. I think Kiss Me was more of a reference than Disintegration.”

The remastering process has allowed Robert to fix some of the issues with the original mix. "In the studio control room it all sounded excellent, but I got too busy sorting out our upcoming concerts to properly oversee the mastering. It was too late to do anything about it; the album was out, and we were off around the world again. It has really bugged for me for a very long time.

“It has taken 30 years, but finally, finally my Wish has come true.”

TARJA TURUNEN Shares Previously Unreleased Song 'Eye Of The Storm' From Upcoming 'Best Of: Living The Dream' Collection

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunenwill release her first-ever "best-of" collection, "Best Of: Living The Dream", on December 2 via earMUSIC.

A track from the collection, Tarja's previously unreleased song "Eye Of The Storm", has been made available and can be streamed below.

"It was the right time to finally release this song," Tarja explains. "It has a very deep feeling of closure in it. It's been influenced by two very important countries in my life: Finland and Argentina. It's an internal battle inside of me. Because at that time in life, I was really searching for my place in this world, where I belong as a person, as an individual."

Looking back on 15 extremely successful years of the Finnish singer's solo career, the "Best Of" contains not only Tarja's most well-known tracks, many of them newly remastered at Sterling Sound, and personal favorites from all six studio albums — "My Winter Storm", "What Lies Beneath", "Colours In The Dark", "The Brightest Void", "The Shadow Self" and "In The Raw" — but also the aforementioned "Eye Of The Storm".

"After all these years, I still really can't believe it's time for me to release a proper 'Best Of' album," Tarja says. "So many beautiful moments, unbelievable. It has been a dream to put together this collection. And I really hope that you will enjoy this as much as I did while making it."

The compilation was hand-picked by Tarja herself and will be released in a wide variety of formats, each featuring exclusive rarities and/or the previously unreleased two-hour "Circus Life" concert, which is eagerly awaited by fans, as well as upgraded versions of Tarja's music videos. Rounded out by high-quality artwork, deluxe liner notes, and many formats to choose from, this collection is a delight for casual fans, as well as superfans.

The standard version of the CD and vinyl contains 16 tracks (including the brand new single) as well as deluxe liner notes. The strictly limited mediabook holds 13 further tracks and the previously unreleased, two-hour live show "Circus Life". The strictly limited box set contains an additional 19 tracks selection of Tarja's projects including OUTLANDERS, four picture discs, six art prints, two posters, and a fine art print signed by Tarja.

After years of work and nearly a year of hearings and delays associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have reached the major moment in which the LA City Council has officially recognized the buildings that housed the Mechicano Art Center and the Centro de Arte Público as Historic Cultural Monuments in the City of Los Angeles. This was a unanimous 14-0 vote.

Nationally, fewer than 10% of historic landmarks are associated with communities of color. Important places that are historically connected with the struggle for Latino civil rights in the US, the Chicano Movement, are at risk of being lost, just as Roosevelt High School was in Boyle Heights when the R Building and Auditorium were demolished in 2019.

The nominations of Mechicano Art Center and the Centro de Arte Publico are not only critical for the preservation of Chicano history in Northeast Los Angeles, but they also are a step toward achieving equity in this space, ensuring that these important places will be there for our community and for many years to come.

The overwhelming support of our community has been critical throughout the HCM process, and we also are grateful to have a champion in the LA City Council who understands the importance of Chicano History, our CD1 Councilmember Gil Cedillo. Northeast LA and the Eastside value the preservation of our history and honoring those who came before, and the community’s and our councilmember’s support of these nominations at every step has underscored this.

We additionally would like to thank our local elected officials who also sent in letters of support including LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis, State Senator Maria Elena Durazo, Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, and CD1 Councilmember Gil Cedillo.

We are also thankful all the members of the City Council citywide who unanimously voted YES on the nominations, including Councilmember Kevin DeLeon in neighboring CD14. Organizations who sent in letters of support included Occidental College, Boyle Heights Community Partners, Historic Garvanza, Art in the Park LA, Latino Heritage Conservation, Ave 50 Studio, and the LA Conservancy. Celebrating thirty years of music, Thunder will release a 28 track album entitled simply ‘The Greatest Hits’ on 27 September 2019 through BMG. Featuring tracks from each of their 12 studio albums, it is the first ever collection to actually be sanctioned by the band, but also compiled by Thunder themselves. The tracks chosen for ‘The Greatest Hits’ shows perfectly the arc of evolution that the band has travelled over three decades, developing, challenging themselves and always moving on: without ever losing the core elements that make them special. ‘The Greatest Hits’ will be released in four formats: 2CD, expanded 3CD [featuring a live session recorded and streamed at the Planet Rock studio on 18 Jan 2019], 3LP and Digital. Pearly* is an song by the English alternative rock band Radiohead, originally released as part of the B-Side on one of the versions of the “Paranoid Android” single (CD1, with CD2 being the other version) along with “Polyethylene (Parts 1 & 2)". It was also on the Japanese CD single with the aforementioned and the addition of “Let Down”. It can also be found on the Collector’s Edition of Radiohead’s studio album “OK Computer”, the remastered re-release “OK Computer OKNOTOK” and on the “Airbag/How Am I Driving EP” which is a collection of most of the B-Side songs from the “OK Computer” CD single releases. Got all that?

I love this song, all the distortion on the guitars and crashing symbols are so noisy and the thick bass underlining it all makes a delicious trifle of music. The what sounds like; “someone threw a feedbacking speaker down the stairs” intro, is different but wonderful, followed by the drums and lead guitar, then feeds into these brilliant harmonised almost choir-like vocals from Thom Yorke. Hanging onto the last note every line - it’s so strong and powerful and gives his voice good room. Particularly in the first part of the verses it works extra well: the first jump is a perfect fitfh ([van]-ill-aaaa) and the second one has the first note down just one semitone, making it a minor sixth (milk-shaaaakes) and as a musical device that works so well to convey the tone of the song. It’s dark, it’s dirty, it’s naughty in a way. After the first verse, the empty space Thom has on his long notes is filled with practically a second set of lyrics, in this call-and-response-esque exchange, but instead with the “second singer” doing their own thing like you’d see in a song from a musical where the two parts come together for the big finale. Works very well.

About half way into the 3 minute 38 second song, the tone shifts slightly. The drums fall away and just the guitars and echoed-to-the-max Thom are repeating this one line in preparation for the crescendo, which is introduced with this smooth as heck drum fill by Philip Selway along with some building sound effects. And here for the last third of the song is where it really cements as a favourite in my mind. There’s this twangy high-pitched low-attack sound (I’m guessing it’s a guitar) that delicately adds a final delicious layer to the organised chaos coming from the guitar, bass, drums, vocals and sound effects beneath. It plays a very simple tune, much like a slow trill but it is incredibly catchy when combined with the chord progression from the rest of the instrumentation and it adds so much to it for me. They need not end the song in my opinion, keep that last segment going for hours for all I care, it’s carrying on in my head once the song has finished regardless.

So in summary, really just a brilliant song. Everything blends together so nicely, and the band does some remarkable things with just guitars and a voice. The remastered version is a fair bit better mixed in my opinion so if you are going to listen to any version I’d say that one.

Cool song fact: Thom Yorke describes the song as a "dirty song for people who use sex for dirty things". The asterisk/star is part of the official title of the song and is intentional, the real reasoning unknown however. One common fan theory is that the star signifies pearly white teeth.

There are probably not many musicians who are lucky enough to be able to look back on a 25-year-old band history at the end of their thirties. And especially without any line-up changes in the last 20 years! This is even more incredible considering that we're not from Birmingham, New York or a German metropolis but from a small town called Fulda, a place where you normally only know about the insights of the music business by hearsay. I mean, as kids we started to play Edguy shows even before we had visited concerts as fans ourselves! Then we started to play shows outside our home town, then outside Germany and all of a sudden we found ourselves touring in Asia, America and Australia on a regular basis, because apparently there were people who liked our music. And they became more and more. For us, this always felt quite normal, the next step was all that mattered. We didn’t think about what happened while things were happening... But if you look back now, you will realise how lucky we were! It's now time to celebrate our anniversary with our fans. We'll celebrate our quarter century with the release of »Monuments« and LIVE in some selected cities! We'll perform a best-of set list, a journey throughout our past, with a lot of fuss and at full throttle! The first quarter century is over and we want to honour these years with our fans! "Things That Were" is a collection of the earliest Lustmord recordings.

CD1 is a remastered version of Lustmord's first self titled release, Lustmørd. The live tracks were recorded on location in 1980-1981.

CD2 provides several unreleased recordings from 1980-83, including one with John Balance, plus compilation tracks. Track 2-1 was previously released on A Document Of Early Acoustic & Tactical Experimentation. Track 2-4 was previously released on The Elephant Table Album. Track 2-5 was previously released on Rising From The Red Sand Volume Four. Track 2-6 was previously released on Alchemy.

Recorded between 1980 and 1983 on location, live and at the studio of E.M.S. London.
