Alkaline Trio Album Review: Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs
(Rise)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Tom DeLonge returned to Blink-182 for the third time in 2022, which meant that Matt Skiba could finally return to Alkaline Trio. As such, earlier this year, A3 ended their longest ever drought between records and released Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, their 10th studio album. The album is an apparent back to basics effort, recorded in Dave Grohl's Studio 606, and like whenever the Foo Fighters themselves promise something "basic," Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs nonetheless sounds huge and expensive. That's okay, though: It's an effective album with catchy, well-constructed songs, a fitting swansong to the band's longtime drummer Derek Grant. The trio essentially built up the tunes together while in the same room, and their chemistry shines through.
Each song on Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs is, instrumentally, a complete package, everything sounding strikingly natural. Mighty opener "Hot For Preacher" juxtaposes gang vocals and a massive, swinging metal-adjacent lead guitar riff. "Meet Me"'s emo sensibilities are melodic amid all the tempo changes. The Dan Andriano-led "Scars" gallops, propelled by Skiba's lead riff and Andriano's spindly bass line. Even the gothy church bells on "Break" fit alongside Andriano's backing vocals, which echo to the point they sound like they're coming from an evil dimension.
Skiba and Andriano's vocal trade-offs come sincerely, too, and are most effective when one band member supports the other. On Andriano's "Versions of You", he sings about looking back at a broken friendship and realizing that, at its core, it wasn't all that great. He wears Skiba's buzzing riffs and Grant's rat-a-tat drum fills like armor. Similarly, on "Shake With Me", Skiba's vulnerable admissions of lost love are buoyed by Andriano's soaring backing vocals. It's no coincidence, then, that the best song on Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs is centered around the power of voice. On the urgent "Bad Time", Skiba describes being on the phone with a friend at the same time an active shooter situation was breaking out across the street, and how heartening it was to hear this person's voice at that time. Later in the song, he reflects on another time he was almost caught in gunfire and how nice it would have been to hear this person's voice then. Sure, it's a weird way to say, "I love you," or, "I appreciate you," but it's unique.
On closing track "Teenage Heart", the band laments a world today in which so many kids fall prey to gun violence and drug overdoses. You realize what they're really after here, calling the album Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, a phrase Skiba's mother, an emergency room nurse, used to describe busy nights at the hospital. With the right balance of dark humor and earnestness, Alkaline Trio look back at a begone world where we could rely on our past being miserable for normal, non-violent reasons: awful, crippling angst.

Hey! Could I request Billie comforting and taking care of an insecure reader with an eating disorder
And, I'd love to be friends :)
Love and Insecurities ||
Billie Eilish x fem!reader
summary – when you feel insecure Billie is there to remind you how beautiful you are.
warnings – fluffy, angst (almost anything ), eating disorder.
word count – 606.
a/n – Heyy! my first request, I'm happy. I hope you like this, and I'm sorry if it wasn't that good I'm a new writer so I'm still learning, constructive criticism is always welcome. thank you very much for requesting.
English is not my first language so there may be some errors
This gif isn't mine, I found it on Google
–––
You are sitting by the window, watching the city lights sparkle in the darkness of the night. A gentle breeze enters the room, bringing with it a sense of calm and serenity, as you let yourself be enveloped by the silence of the night. Waiting for Billie, who at this moment was in her studio, you can't help but fear the moment when she comes home with the same pizza box she always brings when she comes home late at night.
Your eating disorder has been present since school. Since you were a teenager, you've always been a bit chubby in your thighs, belly, and arms, which at the time led you to suffer bullying. Not wanting to hear any more comments and teasing about your body, you started reducing the amount of food you ate and sometimes even skipped meals during the day, all in an attempt to get as close as possible to the imposed standards.
When you met Billie, it was like a breath of fresh air. From the moment you laid eyes on each other, it seemed like a line had been drawn connecting you two. Billie has always been kind and loving to you, always making sure to tell you how much she loves you and affirming how beautiful you are. Of course, over time, this reduced the insecurity you had around her, but there was always a small flame waiting to grow, I mean, surely she's seen prettier women out there, right? She was a famous singer, you were sure there were better people to be by her side.
But she always assured you that you were the right person for her, that she loved you, and that you were the one she loved showing off to the world, always protecting you from the paparazzi but also showing the cameras the beautiful girlfriend she had.
Snapping out of your thoughts with the sound of the door opening, you got off the window ledge and went downstairs to meet her.
"Hey, love." She says when she sees you, coming towards you and hugging you and giving you a soft kiss on your lips as a greeting. "I brought pizza." She adds, smiling, showing her dimples.
"Hey darling. How was your day?" You ask. "I'm really not that hungry." You say and you don't notice but she already looks at you with recognition in her blue eyes.
"It's okay, come here." She says, taking your hand and leading you to the couch where she lays you down and climbs on top of you. "You are beautiful and perfect just the way you are, and I know I've been a bit distant with the album production, but I promise I'll remind you of this every day. You're the most beautiful girl I've ever had the pleasure of seeing, and I'm thankful every day to be able to call you mine." She says, looking deeply into your eyes. And with her words, you feel your eyes welling up as you try to look away, but she doesn't let you, gently grabbing your jaw to make you look at her.
Looking into your eyes she leans in and gives a soft kiss on your eyes, cheeks, forehead, and until she reaches your lips where she gives a kiss full of love, passion, and affection for you. "You are amazing and I'll never tire of saying that to you." She says softly to you.
She gives a last kiss on your lips and leaves light kisses like feathers down your neck, which she passes to your collarbone and onto your arms, belly, and thighs where she knows are the parts you like the least. "I love you entirely, I love your brown eyes, your beautiful arms, your belly, and those wonderful thighs where I always love to be in the middle because you know I love it when you almost suffocate me with them." She says, making you let out a little laugh which she finds adorable.
You pull her up by her t-shirt and pull her into a deep kiss, trying to show your gratitude and love for her. Coming out of the kiss all you can say to her is how much you love her and how grateful you are to have her in your life, and that you hope that in the future you'll have the life you've always dreamed of together.

✎ — MY MELODY ; lee jihoon
synopsis. waking up in the middle of a thunderstorm alone is no one’s idea of perfect but your husband provides plenty of heartwarming moments. pairing. jihoon x afab! reader genre. fluff content. idol! au, parent! au, short, established relationship, soppy moments i cherish tons, reader (and child) have a fear of thunderstorms wc. 606 words, 3.4k characters
MILKY’S NOTES . . . sobbing, throwing up, rolling on the floor, you’ll hear from me again in about 5 working business days
—
a deep rumbling smothered seoul as the night sky thundered once more, cracks of static lightning shooting down from oblivion. before you’d gone to bed with your husband at your side, you’d vehemently ignored the weather forecast that spoke of thunderstorms during the night. “are you sure you’ll be okay?” you remember your husband asking, his tone worrisome as his furrowed brows looked across the room in your direction, where you was changing into nightwear. you had laughed, waving him off with your hand as you climbed into your shared bed.
another crack and rumble shook the house momentarily and your eyes shot open, your whole body sitting up quick enough to give you whiplash as your adjusting eyes took in how the illuminated room faded back into routine darkness. blindly, your left hand dragged across the sheets towards jihoon’s side of the bed. the endeavour ended with your fingertips left empty, confusing you. the time on your phone said 1:14am, so where was your husband?
panicking as another rumble echoed above the house, you threw your legs over the side of the bed - not even slipping your feet into your slippers - and hurriedly left the bedroom to seek out your husband’s comfort. your shaking frame stumbled door to door, checking every one of them for signs of life. jihoon’s office? no. your art studio? no. the second floor hallway was lit up by another strike of lightning and your heart lept into your throat, your body instinctively stumbling into your daughter’s room to see if she was okay.
the figure of her body in bed was much larger than usual, as if two people were snuggled up under her disney princess sheets. you blinked the sleep from your eyes, hearing hana’s whimpers followed by the familiar, lulling sound of your husband’s voice, singing one of his songs softly.
“영원한 사랑이 있다면,” you recognised the song to be ‘to you’ which you’d stated multiple times was a favourite of yours, “그건 당신이겠죠.”
you let out a sigh of relief that you’d finally found your husband amongst all of your suffocating panic. the sheets moved and your eyes met with his. your daughter was curled up into his chest, her head barely making it to the crook of his neck. her small hands were gripping his shirt, bunching the material up in fists.
pink lips curved into a gentle smile at the scene, one of jihoon’s hands rubbing hana’s back rhythmically. faintly, you could make out jihoon smiling back at you in the darkness.
“i’ll come back to bed soon.” he murmured out into the cherished silence that had fell between not only the three of you but the entirety of seoul at that moment. your fingers at your sides fiddled with the material of the shirt you was wearing to bed - one of jihoon’s shirts - and you nodded, almost child-like as the state the thunderstorm put you in wore off.
“do i get a song sang to me too?” you joked playfully, eyes glittering as jihoon chuckled softly, his eyes squeezing shut at the gesture, “it’s only fair.”
“you don’t have to ask baby.” jihoon hummed, his hand stilling on hana’s sleeping body as he realised she’d fell asleep in the absence of his voice and the thunderstorm.
taking in the scene once more, your heart swelled. your husband had come to comfort hana in the absence of you being awake, the second most precious female in his life. as you stumbled tiredly back to your bedroom, the smile on your lips stayed ever present at what a wonderful father he’d become.

you don't know how lucky you got having two caregivers, let alone jerry and elvis. you didn't love one more than the other, you loved them both just the same. that didn't mean you missed the other when they were away, most of the time it being elvis. you sat there pouting with your arms crossed as jerry attempted to get you up from the couch and ready for bed. "honey, you gotta sleep sometime."
"not until daddy comes back." you huffed, looking the other way.
jerry scratched the back of his head, looking around the room as he tried to think of a way to get you upstairs to your room. "i don't know when he's gonna be home....." he muttered and glanced at the clock.
elvis had been at the studio all day and it was half past ten, you should have been in bed an hour ago. jerry crouched down to your level, making you face him. "look...maybe we can-" his sentence was then interrupted by headlights flashing through the window.
"daddy's home!" you squealed, jumping up and nearly knocking jerry down.
jerry shook his head in disbelief and unlocked the door, gritting his teeth at the other man walking up the steps. elvis raised an eyebrow, "what's the look for?"
"don't be mad." he said lowly, opening the door for him to walk through as he was greeted by an excited you. elvis tsk'd at both of you as jerry shut the door behind him. "look, i tried-"
"daddy!" you squealed again, hugging elvis tightly.
"now baby, you're supposed to be in bed." he hugged you back and pulled away to place a hand on your cheek, frowning.
you shrugged in response, leaning into his touch. "i wanted to see daddy first."
elvis glanced over at jerry, who was standing there sulking. "what about jer'? what's wrong with him?"
you looked down at your feet, getting shy. "wanted both of you." you mumbled.
elvis smiled and hugged you again, ruffling your hair. "well, you got me now. what d'ya say jer', should we all get in bed? i'm tired out."
the three of you headed upstairs for your nightly routine. jerry got you changed into your pajamas while elvis changed into his. he set out a stool for you in the bathroom so you could brush your teeth in between them, the stool making you feel smaller between the two men. afterwards, elvis brushed out your hair as you rambled about your day with jerry. "say jer', pick out a book. you mind readin' tonight?" he asked, getting a nod in response. "all good?" elvis asked you after brushing your hair.
you nodded, rushing to the bedroom to take your space in the middle of the bed. jerry and elvis followed shortly, sitting on each side, wrapping an arm around you. the embrace of the two comforted you immediately, pulling the comforter right up to your chest as you snuggled into jerry to peak at the book in his lap. elvis, with his arm still around your shoulders, snuggled to you too, peaking over your shoulder to look at the book as well.
jerry began to read off from his book, pointing at the words for you to follow along. eventually, you fell asleep right on his shoulder, content and sleeping snuggled into jerry. he chuckled softly at the sight of elvis asleep against your side, mouth slightly open as he snored sofly. he almost wished he didn't have to sleep too just to enjoy the moment, smiling widely at the two people he loved dearly peacefully asleep without any worries.

In my process of watching Daisy Jones and The Six series I found out about documentary produced by Dave Grohl that for some reason I completely missed considering I watch a lot of music related documentaries.
It's about recording studio Sound City, the place where Daisy and The Six recorded their songs in the tv show. For those that don't know it's an actual studio where Fleetwood Mac recorded their first album in mid 70s that made them famous, Nirvana recorded their Nevermind album in the 90s that made them famous too, Queens of Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, etc made some epic music in that studio and the sound cannot be compared to anything digitally made.
Dave Grohl now owns the custom analog mixing Neve console from Sound City in his own 606 studio. The console was handmade back in the day, one of 4 were made in the world and super expensive too.
You can watch it on Prime but I found it on YT and if you love music, the history of making rock music, please do yourself a favour and watch Sound City documentary.

1. Peter summons demon to the circle. 2. Demon remains in said circle until Peter outlines their contract. 3. Demon agrees to elegantly crafted contract, becoming loyally bound to Peter and Peter alone.
Instead, the creature steps casually out of the circle, tosses its things onto the leather sofa, and starts immediately meddling in Peter’s immaculate space, touching all of Peter’s very expensive things.

Most Comments: Trust No Man | Peter/Stiles | Teen Wolf | 303 comments Peter feels the edges of panic crawling under his skin as his own blue eyes begin to change and flicker. He shoves the corpse away, pushing back to lean against a tree. The rain is pounding harder, already washing away the blood. He struggles to catch his breath as he feels the bonds inside snapping and changing. He barks out a laugh that sounds like a sob. But feels like freedom.
4th* Most Bookmarks: Play Out | Peter/Stiles | Teen Wolf | 418 bookmarks Stiles shows up one Friday night to a freshly dumped (and definitely not freshly showered) Derek. Stiles waggles his eyebrows while doing a weird wiggle back and forth from his shoulders down to his mismatched sneakers. “We’re going to eat this pizza and drink this beer and watch these shitty movies until you feel less bad.”
Derek is actually touched, and feels a small smile attempting to form, until Stiles continues with another wiggle, “You’re not really my type, but I’ll even make out with you a little and let you cop a feel up on this if you want. You know, get your groove back.”
Derek sighs, but lets him in anyway.
*Because the top three are listed above. (Trust No Man: 888, Born to Lose: 750, Everything goes (wow): 606)
Most Words: Trust No Man | Peter/Stiles | Teen Wolf | 17,430 words
Least Words: Lover/Soldier | Chris/Stiles | Teen Wolf | 485 words So Chris starts to wander. Past the good dim sum place, by the pilates gym with the too-perky staff always handing out flyers for free trials of their barre classes. And finally into The Lost Little Library, Used Books. It smells like the most peaceful moments in his childhood, the paper-dust-quiet scent of the books in his mother’s studio.
Or, it would be peaceful, if the kid behind the counter would ever shut up.

Summer Wars (2009)
Film review #606
Director: Mamoru Hosoda
SYNOPSIS: Kenji is persuaded by classmate Natsuki to visit her family with her; posing as her boyfriend for the approval of her grandmother, who is celebrating her ninetieth birthday. As if that wasn't enough trouble for Kenji, he inadvertently sets off a virus in the OZ network, a digital network that governs most of daily life, causing a rampant AI to seize control of people's accounts, and control of many systems in the world, causing him to be a suspected criminal...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Summer Wars is a 2009 anime film. Kenji, a high school student and part-time moderator for the OZ, a digital network that spans the entire globe and almost all aspects of daily life. He is persuaded by fellow student Natsuki to visit her Grandmother, and pose as Natuski's boyfriend at a family gathering for her Grandmother's ninetieth birthday. As all of these shenanigans are unfolding, a rogue AI has infiltrated OZ, and is slowly taking control of systems all over the world, with Kenji being a suspect in the attack as he inadvertently solved a decryption key without knowing what it was for. The film is a combination of this slice-of-life melodrama, with the more dramatic and wide-reaching effect that this rogue AI is having. The film places them both on equal footings, and balances them fairly well; interweaving the two into a considered tapestry that ties the fate of the characters to what's happening in the film as a whole. The threats are threatening thanks to some neat designs, and the family has a messy feel to it, but feels full of life, again just like how you would expect a large family to interact when they're all placed together.
While the film has a positive reception from a lot of people, there are definitely some blind spots which hamper enjoyment of the film for me. Firstly, the main characters, Kenji and Natsuki, are very bland, and don't bring much unique much to the film in terms of their own personalities and quirks, and as such, they are a bit cliché. They also don't have that much time on screen together, so it's a bit awkward when the film tries to push them together for more emotional scenes. Another issue I had is that the characters don't really contribute that much to the action scenes in OZ: the Ai just does it's own thing most of the time without much interference and a few fight scenes, and I felt like this connection between the two realms could have been developed in a stronger manner. The film is, as you might expect, heavily embedded in Japanese customs and traditions, but I don't think you need too much knowledge of them to enjoy the film, but knowing what the card game Koi-Koi is, for example, would certainly be beneficial for understanding what's actually happening in the film's climax, but you can get the gist of what's happening without it.
The animation and visuals are pretty good, with the world of OZ being colourful and fluid. The "real world" contrasts this with a more simple and faded colour palette and style which works well to contrast, but perhaps that extra bit of detail would have been nice to get across the character's feelings and actions, which as mentioned is one of the film's weaker points. The film bears a lot of similarities to one of director Mamoru Hosoda's previous films based in the Digimon franchise: Digimon Adventure: Our War Game very similarly had the main characters have to defeat a rogue digimon that was taking over systems through the internet, and Summer Wars does feel very similar to that. The studio which made this film also made The Girl Who Leapt Through Time previously, which was a huge hit, and similarly combined a slice-of-life drama with more fantastical elements. However, Summer Wars doesn't have the emotional weight that TGWLTT placed on it's characters, and fails to reproduce that magic: maybe a rogue AI on the internet (or OZ) just doesn't seem that fantastical of a concept compared to time travel, and so the different elements of Summer Wars just don't produce a more exciting reaction when they're mixed. Summer Wars is not a bad film: it's well crafted and considered, and balances it's different elements well, but the blind spots I have mentioned with regards to the characters and such are a bit too prevalent for me, and overshadow a lot of the film's positive points to dampen them just enough to leave a lasting impression of something flawed amidst the good that the film does.

Rosie Smith || 34 || #310 || Lily James || Closed
Personality:
In addition to being amiable and open hearted, she is quite fearless. It shows when she helps The Caretaker blow up the lobby. Others assume she's a damsel in distress, given her delicate looks and younger age, but she's always dove headfirst into any situation. That being said, she can be a little too eager to confront and disarm danger and she can end up unprepared. Having a meddlesome personality can sometimes be useful as a matchmaker. When people are too shy to talk to each other, but obviously have a connection, Rosie will slyly find a way to bring them together! She enjoys helping people, whether it's love, a good meal or folding their laundry.
Biography:
Rosie is a nickname for Rosalind. Her parents nicknamed her after the character Rosie from My Fair Lady and sing her the song all the time when she was little. Rosie's parents tragically died in a car crash when she was six and she was raised by her aunt (mom's side). Aunt Ada was a bank teller, but she always dreamed of opening her own diner. Rosie began working as soon as she could to save up and help her aunt's dream come true. She took odds and ends jobs from nanny to maid, busy from the bell ending school to late at night when she arrives home. Summer vacation is just extra hours to her! Along with her inheritance from her parents will and savings along with Aunt Ava's they manage to buy a diner and open it up when she is 17!
Leased the diner space ten years before the outbreak. It was extremely popular right off the bat. She credits herself as a matchmaker in the building and isn’t afraid to boast about it. Tends to know a little about everything going on in the building. She contributed in helping The Caretaker blow up the Lobby.
Pre Outbreak Occupation: Owner and operator of Rosie’s Diner Previous Zombie Experience: Aided The Caretaker in blowing up the Lobby Martial Status: Single Children: N/A Residence: Studio #606 Years residing at The Wexley: 10 Connections:

"....HER MUSIC IS EQUAL PARTS SEX, HUMOR, ROCK, AND DANCE...AND OFTEN FRANKLY HILAROUS LYRICS..."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on a "Friday Nite Favorite" of mine -- "The Teaches of Peaches" is the second studio album by Canadian/Berlin-based recording artist Merrill Nisker, and her first under the stage name PEACHES. It was initially released on September 5, 2000, by Kitty-Yo and re-released in 2002 by XL Recordings as an "Expanded Edition" featuring a bonus disc.
ALBUM OVERVIEW: "Originally released by the German label Kitty-Yo in 2000, "The Teaches of Peaches" is a crash course in PEACHES' (aka Merrill Nisker) punk-disco burlesque.
"Sucking on my titties like you wanna be callin' me all the time like Blondie/Check out my Chrissie be-Hynde it's fine all of the time" she sings on the opening manifesto "Fuck the Pain Away," which crystallizes her sound and approach -- her music is equal parts sex, humor, rock, and dance, with her frank, and often frankly hilarious, lyrics riding atop stark drumbeats, throbbing basslines, and repetitive but undeniably rockin' guitar riffs.
Trashy, energetic tracks like "Rock Show" and "Lovertits" -- which is strangely reminiscent of THE STONES' disco period, à la "Emotional Rescue" -- put the "rude" back in rudimentary; it's the kind of cleverly stupid music that's made by pretty bright people.
Indeed, it's quite possible to read all sort of women's studies theories into PEACHES' music; she's unrepentantly, triumphantly sexual and turns the tables by objectifying guys (particularly on "AA XXX," where she sings, "I like the innocent type/Deer in the headlights," and on the funny, kinky "Hot Rod," where she demands "Huh? What? Show me whatcha got/Rub it against my thigh"), but the fact that her sexually explicit music isn't presented as a bravely feminist act is, paradoxically, exactly what's so liberating about it.
Things start to falter on "The Teaches of Peaches" when the tempo slows down and the electronic elements are emphasized, as on "Diddle My Skittle," "Suck and Let Go," and "Felix Partz," which feel a little draggy compared to the album's high-octane first half but do have a hypnotic pull that's worth noting. However, the flirty, disco-inspired "Set It Off" and bitchy breakup song "Cum Undun" express her punk attitude and dance ambitions much more naturally.
And even though songs like "Sucker" sound a bit warmed-over, it's fairly remarkable for an artist with such a brash, distinctive style that she doesn't start repeating herself until the very end of the album. Funny, sexy, outrageous, and danceable (not to mention endlessly quotable) all at once, "The Teaches of Peaches" is a great introduction to a unique artist who defines herself by gleefully blurring boundaries.
END/BONUS: The 2002 reissue on Beggars/XL includes a bonus disc of covers and remixes that map out Peaches' influences and contemporaries, including her versions of Jeans Team's "Keine Melodien" and Berlin's "Sex (I'm A)," a new version of "Felix Partz" featuring Gonzales, Kid 606's remix of "Fuck the Pain Away," and a mix of "Set It Off" by Tobi Neuman."

Album Reviews: Jimi Hendrix Experience "Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967" / Scream "DC Special"
Jimi Hendrix Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967
Another year, another Jimi Hendrix Experience release just before the holiday season! Since beginning this blog, I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing loads of Hendrix albums including the posthumous album Both Sides of the Sky, the 50th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Electric Ladyland, the 50th anniversary re-release of his live album Band of Gypsys, his live box set Songs for Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts, the live album and movie Live in Maui, 2021’s Record Store Day release Paris ‘67, and last year's Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969. This week Legacy is releasing a never-before-released (or bootlegged) live album of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's concert at Hollywood Bowl just before they became famous with Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967.
album cover
At this concert, the Experience were opening for The Mamas and the Papas. Attendees were mainly there to see the headliners. Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album Are You Experienced would be released in the U.S. five days later on August 23, 1967 (it had been released in the U.K. on May 5, 1967). By this point, the band had played a legendary show at the Monterey Pop Festival and opened for The Monkees. This is literally the moment just before they got famous. The trio were bigger than the sum of their parts: Hendrix on guitar, Noel Redding on bass, and Mitch Mitchell on drums. There were quite a few songs from Are You Experienced, but there are also loads of covers including favorites by The Beatles (“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”), Howlin’ Wolf (“Killing Floor”), Bob Dylan (“Like a Rolling Stone”), The Troggs (“Wild Thing”) and Muddy Waters (“Catfish Blues”). A live album would pretty much be enough to please a lot of fans, but this one is cool because it's not some overly-bootlegged concert so there's a sense of discovery, but also the covers make this feel like you're getting something new and different. There's nothing like hearing a band the very second they became famous and here it is!

Scream DC Special
Bursting out the DC hardcore punk scene in the 80s was the legendary Scream. The Reagan administration gave the Washington DC punk community quite a bit to rant about in the 80s and Scream were among the biggest of that whole scene, along with Fugazi, Bad Brains and Henry Rollins (the list, of course, goes on). In my friend Scott Crawford's 2014 documentary Salad Days about the DC punk scene in the 80s, he interviewed multiple members of Scream. Singer Pete Stahl and his brother / guitarist Franz Stahl, bassist Skeeter Thompson were a tight knit unit with original drummer Kent Stax. After Stax left the band in 1986, his replacement was teenage drummer Dave Grohl, who truly brought it. I was a big fan of the band's albums No More Censorship and Fumble and I have them in my record collection. After the band broke up (as we all know), Grohl joined Nirvana and brought that punk energy he honed in Scream to the masses. The Fumble album had been recorded in 1989 but was finally released in 1993. There were a few reunions here and there and Grohl has continued to work with the members of Scream (i.e. Franz was in Foo Fighters from 1997-1999). In 2009, the original lineup of Scream reunited and they even recorded with Stax on drums at Grohl's Studio 606 for an EP. But we haven't actually had a studio album from Scream since Fumble, which was 30 years ago. This week, Dischord Records is releasing DC Special featuring the original lineup. In September Stax died at age 61, making this his final album with Scream.
album cover
With the Fumble album it felt like the band was really evolving. The punk sound was there, but there was also a post-punk sound coming through. With all of their collective outside projects, i.e. Franz in Foo Fighters and DYS, Pete and Franz in Wool, Pete in Goatsnake and Earthlings?, Skeeter's solo work, etc - this band is way more than just an 80s punk band. This album incorporates a lot more styles and even some melodic tendencies. It's a nice full circle moment that this album got recorded with Stax before he died and that Grohl made a guest appearance. There's loads of other DC punk veterans appearing here including Dischord Records founder and Fugazi / Minor Threat singer Ian MacKaye. This is album is a treat for fans and enough to make you want to, well, scream!

ALKALINE TRIO REGRESÓ CON FUERZA... SKATERS Y ZOMBIES

In December 2011 he formed the band the International Swingers with Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock, guitarist James Stevenson of Generation X and singer Gary Twinn of Supernaut. About the same time he became a founding member of the Split Squad, participating in tours, appearances at SXSW festivals, and in the recording of the album, Now Hear This..., released in January 2014.
In 2015, via PledgeMusic, the band The International Swingers raised the money to record their first full-length self-titled album, The International Swingers (originally under the working title Whatever Works Now). The album was recorded at Studio 606 in LA which is owned by the Foo Fighters. It was then mixed by Peter Walsh who has worked with Simple Minds, Pulp and most recently Scott Walker.
In 2017 Burke played dates as a member of L.A.M.F., a Johnny Thunders tribute also featuring Walter Lure, Mike Ness, and Glen Matlock. The reunion shows in New York took place at the Bowery Electric in Manhattan on November 15 and 16 2016 (without Glen Matlock), and were recorded for the release on an album released on Jungle Records in December 2017.🎂
