Just some of the parallels between Tom Hardy and Joseph Quinn pt. 1
Both play a hot mess named Eddie
Both have made absolutely chaotic short s
Both have been in tv adaptations of British period novels
Both can still look sexy in a powdered wig
Both have brilliantly played men that struggle with their mental health

"Honest, sometimes... I think I'm the child of the Devil. I let the Devil in. Now I can't get him out. I tried... burning him out and cutting him out. He don't take no notice. Why should he? He don't wanna be homeless." - Tom Hardy as Stuart Shorter in Stuart: A Life Backwards (2007).

I’ve never heard of Stuart a life backwards before but I wanted to watch something with Tom hardy after the disaster of “this means war” and hey I like cumberbatch too so why not
Damn it was good. Don’t get me wrong I love venom but Tom hardy is really wasted as an action hero. He does drama so well. Cumberbatch as well… but I don’t think doctor strange really fits in action hero in my mind.
This is probably the best depiction of homelessness, mental illness and the struggles of those who grow up in poverty. Stuart is a deeply flawed person. He’s witty and charming and interesting at points but he’s also dangerous and unpredictable. There is no “hooker with a heart” type character going on here. Well no hookers either.. but you know the type of stopes I’m talking about. The THIS homeless/poor/sex worker/etc character doesn’t deserve this life because look at how good they are inside. Stuart didn’t deserve the life he got (no homeless person does either….housing should be a human right) but yeah he’s pretty fucking shitty at times
Benedict cumberbatch does at great job showing how conflicted he feels about Stuart at times when he’s learning about the bad shit stuart has done. Stuart is Alexander’s friend and it sucks when your friend isn’t quite what you thought. But Stuart is his friend and they’re able to move past it and still be friends
And holy shit this was a tv movie?? Blown away
