Been re-listening to Dealing with Dragons recently (anyone who knows me knows I will not shut up about how formative this series was for me re: many things but mostly dragons) and so I got the urge to draw Cimorene again (I sketched her like a year or so ago, but can't find it, so I thought a redesign with my new style was perfect!)

if you draw enough monster ocs, when you go back to drawing a human character, it feels like "sameface syndrome" everytime, by virtue of their face being. human.
#toy txt post#or maybe i am just sameface syndrome#but also different face syndrome#two characters will have the same face but then the next time i draw those characters its a different face than they had last time!#i know part of it is being out of practice but also there is definitely an element of feeling constrained by human facial structure lmao#the monsters have Their Own Problems but like. no one has a face like bokrae no matter how inconsistent i am about drawing her#her features are iconic enough to her that you can tell everytime#birdie???? i faceclaimed eartha kitt for her and im still struggling cos i feel weird about faceclaiming as a concept#but even then 😭 one time i was trying to give headloose a face and someone was like wow he looks like birdie!#me 😭😭😭😭😭 what!!!!!! hes not supposed to!!!!!!!!!!!!!#i need to practice. features#you know the worst part about coming up w a bunch of fuckin Scenarios in my brain for ocs is that i have even fucking Drawn them yet#to give them like. iconic staple features and figure out what their faces look like. which feels like it would really help to have that#knowledge and muscle memory before i jump into trying to draw intense scenes with difficult poses!!#not to mention. listen. i can do the monster faces. somewhat. the bodies??????????? well for one. theyre too big everytime#im convinced i could be trying to draw bokrae on like a full ass wall size paper like a mural thing and run out of room. it just keeps#happening. i have no sense of scale for them either. by which i mean i struggle w scale already and also cant decide what i want it to be#and ive tried to handwave it away by being like ohhh uh. birdie casts spells on them to change their sizes for convenience but also#no. perhaps that explanation works for other ppl. @ myself tho its not good enough i Know Better!!!!!!#agh!!!!!!! i really need to figure out bokrae's Teeth also. like i dont. i coukd get away with it. but i should. and i want to.#anyway all this to say that i need to give these characters faces and body designs (actually the body designs for humanoid ocs is the easy#part. the faces are whats stumping me? well. i need more practice w all the body types again but like i Know what im Going For at least.#for the most part anyway. havent fully figured out heights. struggling w characters that i want to make short but give imposing tall energy#on occasion? birdie can be short all day long no problem. I want Alasdair to be short enough that he has a bunch of short boyfriends that#feel tall around him? bytte was going to be like 6ft max but then i thought about making her taller and like. what if i made her taller#headloose is not that /short/ but he is Not Tall and prolly pretty lean? twink build for sure#and of course all these short /tall distinctions come with a bias of relativity to my own height which i categorize as medium height#but short ppl call me tall and insist its not average and tall ppl call me short. (5'6) and then i have to factor in how the gender changes#the dynamic of a height like my height is Short For A Man but medium to tall for a Woman. which id argue is medium height bc mens heights#are socially held to high standards (hehe) and also i know ethnicity/race is also a factor? but im out of tags. rip. bye

Kirby Star Allies is one of, if not my absolute favorite Kirby games, and I recognize while it's on paper one of the weaker entries in the core series, it appeals to me personally on multiple levels and I think I should revisit it more
#musings#kirby#no the reasons don't begin and end with 'dark meta knight is playable'#but that is a very big reason#to expand on it i think the dlc dream friends were amazingly designed#they still fit into the structure and playstyle of a playable kirby character but they also still feel like bosses#using dmk as an example they took his boss fight from triple deluxe and made it into a playable character#preserving most of his moves and adding new ones in the same vein#before unlocking dmk i played as marx and was surprised by how faithful he felt to his boss fight#and of course being able to augment these characters' movesets with elemental upgrades makes it even better#guest star allies was a great addition because if i want to i can play through the whole game in one sitting#as dark meta knight with fire powers#that's like my ideal kirby experience right there#did i mention the dlc was all free and very well-crafted?#that's not a given nowadays so i'm very appreciative of that#i also like the mage sisters and the lore implications the game offers#fransisca and flamberge are quite possibly the first lesbians in a kirby game#and they're ALSO playable! with their full boss movesets!#you can even tag out to the other elemental nuns whenever you want#so they're three very strong characters in one package#i seriously need to finish completing my save file in star allies so i can just start up a dmk or mage sisters run whenever i want#that would be nice i think#but of course because of the main mechanic being related to having teammates i can bring both characters with me#including in other guest star allies runs#because if i want to i can just ride their back and control them that way#i wonder how easy it would be to cheese a hard guest star allies run by piggybacking off an op dream friend

Dragon Ball Z: Abridged Episode 48 Review

I should probably be in love with “Advanced Geometry.” Semi-Perfect Cell is an absolute delight, Tien gets to swoop in and kick some serious ass, and Goku performs one of his funniest Deus ex Machina in the entire series. And on a purely visceral level, I do love this episode, but that doesn’t mean that “Geometry” is not without a rather glaring flaw: Tien draining himself and being nearly killed by Cell is the climax of the episode, and there is still one third of the episode that follows it.
Now, I’m not one for strict adherence to the “three-act structure,”1 but even within the that broken paradigm, there is an incredible wisdom to only having a relatively small portion of the story to follow the climax. It certainly would’ve been unsatisfying to end this episode with Tien on the ground before Cell with no knowledge of what would happen to him, but ending immediately after Goku rescues him? That would’ve been completely satisfying, as that Is where the story of this episode ends.
Continuing after Tien’s rescue also does a thematic disservice to the sacrifice he made in fighting Cell as effectively as he did. Beyond the Senzu bean recovery removing any narrative consequence to the sacrifice (thanks Toriyama), it’s also very disappointing to see the narrative focus on the return of two Super Saiyans not two minutes after we’ve been shown that true heroism is telling Cell, Super Saiyans, and power levels to fuck themselves and giving everything you have to holding the evil back, even if your efforts are ultimately futile.
Despite Cell’s insults towards humanity, Tien (and Krillin before him) has proven that it doesn’t take fulfilling an ancient alien prophecy to do some modicum of good, and having to listen to Vegeta rant about his power increase after that is incredibly dissonant with the stated themes of the first two thirds of this episode.

Stray Observations
1One of the things I love most about anime as a genre is how it consistently flies against the ideas propagated by Western storytellers about how stories should work, especially in regards to the three-act structure. Now, this isn’t true for all anime, but a lot of shows in the shonen genre actively avoid structuring individual episodes with three separate acts, instead choosing to showcase a fight over multiple episodes with each “act” of the fight given an entire episode, and while that can and does cause pacing issues, it also makes each encounter more dynamic, giving it room to breathe and develop far more naturalistically than it might with a three act structure.
By the way, I define “act” in this context as the section of a story wherein a character makes a specific and irreversible choice, and it is entirely possible for individual fights to have multiple acts inside of it.
Krillin Owned: 32, because he didn’t think to stop flying towards a moving plane.
“Booby-bomb!”
Chiaotzu: “Died? Yes. Jesus, we’ve literally all done it.” Chi Chi: “I haven’t.” Chiaotzu: “Give it some time, you’re hanging with the right crowd.”
“Ki-ko-fuck yourself.”

Are the others relevant in Meteors or is this a Roxy-focused thing? I mean relevant as in part of the story/their presence actually helps rather than hinders the story (this isn’t meant to be negative I’m so sorry if I sound that way)

Not negative at all no worries! It's a valid question!
The others ARE relevant! Massively in fact! My brain has just been rotating some of the bigger and more uhhhh painful(?) elements of this version lately, so they've been coming up a bit less.
Roxy is probably going to be the much larger focus character, because of the Blorboism and because of the new structure I've got here. I'm still working on what specific direction I want to take a lot of the other animatronics, Vanessa, Eddie, Luis maybe and whoever else that comes along, but they physically can't be irrelevant.
Basically, what I want this version of Meteors to be structured like, is I suppose, two separate stories that are actually just one. Roxy (and somewhat Cassie as well) is acting sort of like a bridge between two separate worlds, the familiar Ruined Pizza Plex (and by extension, the remnants of Fazbear's actions) and the unfamiliar Outside World. These two places start off (hopefully anyway) feeling light years apart, but gradually feel closer and closer to each other until they're now just one world. Which is... not something I've ever done before ngl so while I'm determined to give it a try, I'm also like. Fully aware if I ever actually start writing it (I live in hope) that it may not come across like that lmao but hey! Live and learn!
Anyway! With this in mind, yeah the other animatronics are all relevant as a part of the Pizza Plex side of the story. With Ruin as the set up and with the narrative puzzle pieces I have in my head, there is a lot to do over on that side of things! Like. An actual fuck ton of ground to cover, and Roxy's not doing that on her own, it wouldn't be possible and would kinda suck ngl
I don't have a set role for everyone at the moment. Like I say, I've had the broader, and newer stuff on my mind lately and this structure is brand new so I haven't really slotted everything into place just yet. I know what I want to include, I have a huge fun ending in mind that I really hope slots in with the 'both worlds being one' thing by the time I get there, but yeah uhh... still working on it so if you want to know what a specific animatronic's role is uhhhh you may not get an answer right away but you also might trigger my brain to work it out right then and there so... Take this as you will lmao
What I have now? Mostly Roxy because she's my blorbo of all time lmao. I've also got scenarios with some new concepts and bots I want to try out from book sources that I'm HEAVILY fucking around with, and some new ideas for the others that I need to cook a bit more because while they're good and fun, they might not fit what I'm aiming for now. I dunno! I had those ideas last night I haven't really had a huge amount of time to see how they'd fit yet, ya know? We'll see how it goes!
