SEGA aiming to reach new audiences after announcing five games for classic titles at The Game Awards
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SEGA has announced five new video games based on their storied franchises at this year's Game Awards late Thursday night.
With no relation to the sparky tenrec, the publisher described the shocking announcement as a "power surge" - a wave of new games set to re-electrify a suite of classic titles to a new audience.
Five franchises will receive a brand new video game title in the upcoming years: Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Crazy Taxi. These games are currently in development.

While long-time SEGA fans celebrate the return of iconic names like Jet Set Radio, the publisher is set to replicate Sonic the Hedgehog's recent successes with the rest of their video game portfolio.
"In recent years, Sonic has forged new paths for SEGA, bringing the franchise to life and reaching new audiences in ways we had only dreamed of in the past," said SEGA co-chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi in a translated official statement.
"Building off that success, we are digging into our legacy and reimagining several franchises to bring these games to more audiences around the globe," Utsumi added. "Today's announcement is just the start of our initiative."
"First and foremost, our ambition will be to create great games with memorable characters and worlds. We hope fans of all ages will look towards our future with anticipation as we release these projects in the coming years."
Details about the newly announced games will be unveiled in the future, with the expectation of more classic franchises to be announced as well.

Despite its portable design, the prohibitive prices of durable alkaline AAs, in tandem with the screen's inability to produce a bright image under the beaming Portuguese sun, caused my experience with the Game Gear to be a primarily indoors one - no less enjoyable because of it.
