oh godddd i was leaning towards a podcast app but i went through and found a few of the shows i've listened to didn't transfer over and then when i did a quick count there's like 200 shows missing and there's no way of knowing whether it's because they didn't transfer over or they're just not on the app skjdfkjs a nightmare
#like that's part of why i feel like i'd almost be forced to use apple podcasts or something bc you know most shows are gonna be on there#whereas with all these apps i'd never heard of it's like okay well are you only gonna have podcasts that are somewhat popular#bc i have a lot saved on stitcher that are probably niche especially if they're only one season or whatever#but i don't LIKE the other apps this one would let me drag and drop my shows into place and that was the happiest i figured i could be#bc otherwise everything is in whatever order the app dictates and i have to scroll past the shows i plan to listen to#in order to get to the ones i actually keep up with#i hate it! i have like no time left tho i'm unclear if they're straight up taking the app off your phone or just no longer updating lol#why is there not an exact stitcher dupe why are all the apps not essentially the same in terms of function i mean honestly

Hi I know you've asked this before but I can't find the sites or apps you said you use for podcasts, I've started working with your guide to degoogle myself and I don't want to keep streaming apps and instead use that money for things that go directly to creators but I'm still unsure on what apps to use
Antennapod! I've been using it since April 2021. Before that I had been using Stitcher and Antennapod is so much better. There's their site. The one downside I've found is that it doesn't seem to transfer data between devices even if you have an account? Like when I got a new phone I couldn't find a way to get it to see my history and subscriptions. I didn't look particularly hard, so it's possible there is a way and I just didn't find it.
And I use Phonograph as an MP3 player. (I want to say that it's great but it recently emptied all my playlists so i have to rebuild them, but it's done that once and I've been using it for at least two years so you know what, I'll take it but I'll let you know that there are some flaws).

Anyone got a good podcast app? I used to use Stitcher but they went down the drain. Like 10 years ago I used podcast addict but idk if it's recognizable :/ I'm very tech stupid, ideally I just need 1 - 3 button presses before I can put my phone back down lmao...
#Creepy chatter#I just wanna listen to sawbones while I do some work over the weekend 🥺#Idk why but it makes it easier to focus on medical work if I'm listening to stupid historical medical practices

Does anyone else have the "smart" ads (the ones that get dropped at designated points when available rather than those recorded as part of the full audio file) on TMA that are completely out of control? I wanted to start a relisten for fic reasons, and on 2 separate podcast apps (stitcher is dying like. tomorrow. so i'm trying to switch) and "Seed", which is the very first trailer and should come in at about a minute COUNTING all the non-content administrative stuff about what the show is called/when/etc got so many ads loaded onto it is was over 6 minutes. I literally could not find the actual content on the first app, because they were loaded on the front AND BACK end with the actual trailer somewhere in the middle.
Like I respect the need to put ads on stuff to stay in business, but 5 minutes is a bit above average for shows that I listen to that are an hour long. 5 times as long as the audio I came for, though??? 5 minutes attached to a regular episode isn't that much better, that's like a quarter as long as the entire episode! And they aren't filling the slot with a really long ad, there are like 10 in there! They're normal, short ads, there are just a billion of them
#tma#ink post#so for now no relisten for me :/#i can fiddle with an unfamiliar app or i can fiddle with mega ads but not both#unless i'm like. genuinely out of my mind. this can't possibly be just me can it?#like i think that about a tenth of the length of the episode is a pretty good rule of thumb#particularly for something like tma i can take more ads if theyre spread through the episode but that isn't an option here#at least i HOPE it isnt#rn like. i guess i pick a day i don't have literally anything else to do#and just batch download episodes and then figure out how to just have my own audio files with them edited out#id rather support the network by streaming with ads but i flat out CAN'T do this many

Daniel talks this week about some of the celebrated magicians with whom he has worked, as well as how he comes up with his creative ideas. He has a system for developing these ideas that he shares in this episode. He also surrounds himself with other creative types like Blake Vogt, Alex Rangel, Brent Braun, and others who are titans of trickery in their own right.

In 2023 we suffered the loss of many friends who have passed away, but whom are not forgotten. Perhaps as we grow older, we are more aware of those who pass. But this last year saw the passing of almost twice as many as were listed in the magic obituaries of 2022.
Although the list below is not exhaustive, it does reflect the names of many well-known (and some lesser known) magicians, spouses, assistants and magic aficionados who passed on in 2023. Some may not be as well-known to you, but they were my personal friends (hey, it is my blog!). If you are unfamiliar with any of these names, then it would behoove you to do a little online search of what these people have contributed to our craft. If you have someone you think was overlooked, then please post the name in the comments below on this blog.
Those whose names are highlighted with a “hot link” were featured or interviewed here on The Magic Word Podcast. It was not my original intent when I began this journey to chronicle the voices before they left us, but I am so thankful that I did sit down with many of these friends for lively, and sometimes intimate, conversations. You can click on their name to revisit and listen to their voices again.

Podcast #876: Why You Like the Music You Do
What albums and songs are getting a lot of play on your Spotify or iTunes app currently? My guest would say that the music you put in heavy rotation comes down to your unique “listener profile.” Her name is Susan Rogers, and she’s a music producer-turned-neuroscientist as well as the co-author of This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You. Today on the show, Susan unpacks the seven dimensions of music and how they show up along a varying spectrum in every song. She explains how everyone has an individualized taste for the configuration of these dimensions, and that how closely a particular song aligns with this pattern of sweet spots accounts for whether you like it or not. Along the way, we discuss artists that exemplify these dimensions, how Frank Sinatra injected virility into his music, how part of your musical taste has to do with the way you prefer to move your body, and much more. Artists and Songs Mentioned in the Episode * Prince’s Purple Rain * Barenaked Ladies * The Shaggs * Ella Fitzgerald * The Rentals * The Killers * Tame Impala * Steven Page * Johnny Cash * Cake * James Brown’s “Hot Pants” * Yes’ “Roundabout” * Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” * Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe” * Miles Davis’ Birth of the Cool and Kind of Blue * Frank Sinatra’s first hit song “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” (1940) vs. “It Was a Very Good Year” (1965) Connect With Susan Rogers * The This Is What It Sounds Like website, including the “Record Pull“ * Susan’s faculty page Listen to the Podcast! There are various podcasts to boost confidence. They are perfect if you wish to lift your spirit up. However, some of these podcasts are not based on real-life experiences. The hosts may provide you with some quotes and examples. But most of them are taken from books or movies. This is where Free of Fear Full of Joy stands out. You can learn a lot from the hosts as they share their real-life experiences on how they managed to boost their confidence to fight all the hurdles in their lives.

More Barside Buzz rumors on the Spider-Man 4 disagreement between Sony and Marvel. In the last week or so, we have shared a few rumors that Sony and Marvel are not aligned on the vision for Spider-Man 4. You can find more on this in the related section below. However, today we have some new information from a familiar source on this topic. Daniel RPK, on his Patreon had this to say about all things Spider-Man. ‘I can also confirm that Sony wants to rush Spider-Man 4, no matter what. Sony Animation is developing other Spider-Man animated movies—at least 2 more. Amy Pascal wants Kevin Feige involved in a future Miles movie. Tom Rothman (Sony) is the one who is fighting Feige over what to do with Spider-Man 4, and he’s the one trying to rush it. He also wants Watts back to direct, while Feige wants someone new and to have Watts on other projects.’ We have already heard the rumor that Watts will not be back for Spider-Man 4. However, perhaps that was slightly premature. RELATED: Spider-Man 4 Rumors Feige is too busy and wants a different story for Sony If anyone has seen Madame Web, then you are probably already praying Sony doesn’t get anything to go their way. Sony is the studio where good movie ideas go to die. I also think actor agents will start to get wise to the fact they’re not joining the MCU, as many who work on Sony movies seem to think they are. It’s quite humorous to see Madame Web actors ask what it’s like to join the MCU, for example. However, I want Spider-Man 4 to be a great movie, so I hope Feige gets his way more than Rothman. Meanwhile, Amy Pascal seems locked in a fantasy land and is riding the coattails of those who actually made the Spider-Verse animated movies. The best studio ever, right? It also seems certain that Tom Holland himself will have a big say in where this movie goes. In the past, he’s been in Feige’s corner, so I wonder if he will again this time. I guess we will find out sooner rather than later because if the movie is going to arrive in 2025, it needs to be filmed this year. What do you think as we share more rumors about the Spider-Man 4 disagreement between Sony and Marvel? As always, share any thoughts on this below if you can. For Aca-Fans and other people who enjoy meta-geekery, I really recommend this podcast, Imaginary Worlds. The guy who does it describes it as "if NPR went to ComicCon and never left."
He's interviewed VTubers, foley artists, and Muppet creators; done episodes on themes like AI, Hindu-inspired fantasy, the gothic, and reboots; and dug into particular franchises like Warhammer 40K, Magic: The Gathering, and Star Wars. The three on Doctor Who are a good entry point if you're into that. Start with this one.
It's on various platforms besides its own website, of course, although the podcast app I use is shutting down so now I have to find out if they're on Stitcher or PocketCast or whatever else. They might be on Spotify....
Anyway, enjoy!
EDIT: Fixed the link
