as a kid remus didn't at all understand that kisses = romantic gesture (in society's eyes, obviously). he just gave his bestest friend virgil kisses all the time without ever thinking of them as anything other than platonic (it's the autism + being a lovequeer aro)

cut to roman, who's already caught up on society's views on romance, seeing remus and virgil kiss a lot. cut to him now being quite angry because wtf how did his rat bastard of a brother get a partner before he did-???

i imagine the confrontation went like this:

its so INSANE to me that we can have A TWO PART EPISODE about virgil & his acceptance. have an entire arc where they show that virgil is not a bad side 4 his mistakes, & NOT have people apply that to ANY ONE ELSE. Have people watch that & STILL proceed 2 fucking attack janus as soon as he reveals himself for "being evil". STILL have people attack logan & roman . STILL have people attack patton in later episodes, simply because the other sides start to not like him or call him out on his mistakes . like HEAD IN HANDS.

a long list of things that are confirmed as canon in sanders sides:

Virgil hates flying

Logan is afraid of what's at the bottom of the ocean

Roman is absolutely terrified of the dark (and screams like a final girl in a horror movie when he's scared)

The sides can change how the others look

Virgil can in fact control shadows/darkness

Patton made up a game called "patton cake" and it is very messy and confusing to play

Janus is cold-blooded and sheds his scales

Remus and Roman both have sustained long-lasting injuries

Logan can't "duck out" like Virgil did

Logan has a literal "thinking cap" that he wears

Roman and Remus can conjure living things

Virgil has kept/stolen items from both Logan and Janus

Logan and Virgil are great at giving each other gifts

Logan's gifts that he gives are usually some form of money

Virgil hates being babied

Patton has no idea where babies come from

Logan called puns his "forbidden fruit spread" and has actually made several dad jokes on purpose

Both Logan and Roman have fainted over crofters

Virgil cannot skateboard to save his life (but still pretends he can to seem cool)

Roman insults things as his way of showing love, and has in fact made fun of nearly every side

Patton is allergic to cats and Remus is allergic to soap

Remus deliberately attempts to smell bad

Logan said crofters are the only thing that understands him

Roman Logan and Patton are demons

Virgil Janus and Remus are angels

Roman and Remus are brothers (ofc)

Roman used to be an angel but he fell and is now a fallen angel

The fall hurt :(

Roman then befriends Logan and Patton (or rather patton befriends him and logan warms up to roman)

Janus is a seraphim, and a pretty high ranking angel

Virgils role as an angel is to “deal with” and kill demons

Virgil and roman used to be good friends in heaven, but after romans fall virgil lost all respect for him and tried moving on from whatever friendship they had because hes a demon now and virgil assumes hes a bad guy

Roman still thinks fondly of his friendship with virgil :)

Remus really misses his brother

Personally, I've always seen it as he ALREADY fell out with Janus and Remus before he ducked out and was desperately clinging onto a new relationship since he had been suffering since his last one. The core sides had nearly died (even if they didn't know they could die) trying to help or find Virgil, and he was so desperate for a relationship that was real, that he immediately accepted the core sides.

He was at his absolute lowest and was willing to accept any semblance of a positive relationship without thinking twice

I know this won't sit well with everyone, but Virgil's acceptance arc is really sketchy. Like I get it needed to happen narratively, and I don't have a better way it could've been done in the same time frame, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth still.

If I were Janus or Remus, I would be concerned that my friend attempted suicide and ran to the people who pushed him to the edge, even if they tried to stop him. I would think something was terribly wrong when he got hostile toward me immediately for showing my face.

If I were Virgil I would be more hesitant to consider myself part of the group of people who brought me to that point, no matter how friendly and accommodating they are, no matter how remorseful they are. I would still be hurt from everything that happened regardless of any apologies. It would take more time to heal and to trust them.

It's so out of character for him to abandon his friends (Janus and Remus did have friendly relations with him.) It's out of character for Anxiety to jump into the group almost immediately, even if they apologized and want to make things right. It makes no sense that he can hold a grudge against Janus and Remus (possibly just for existing as they do), but he doesn't hold a grudge against the others for driving him to "duck out."
