Now & Then: August 25th, 1944 - Bombing of the Peenemünde Experimental Station. The caption on the rear of this photo states “Aerial attack on Robot Bomb Fuel Plant - One of the attacking Boeing B-17 Flying Forts of the 8th USAAF passes over the burning target during an attack on the hydrogen peroxide plant at Peenemünde, Germany, about 60 miles northwest of Stettin.  Hydrogen Peroxide is used as fuel for the robot bombs.” Anyone have any idea why they kept referring to V-1s and V-2s as robots ? Was it for OpSec reasons or was it the PR people typing the captions translating it to something the average joe might understand? This particular aircraft is 'Ice Cold Katy’ #42-107039 (SC-M) 612th BS, 401st BG This aircraft survived the war and ended its days at Kingman, US on Nov 11th 1945. . 👍Please be sure to follow us or tag a friend (or 10 😆) - we truly appreciate all the support!
