Heartstrings in Seoul
The fluorescent lights hummed mercilessly, mirroring the relentless drone of your computer. Each keystroke echoed in the sterile silence, starkly contrasting the morning's chaotic printer jam that had thrown your entire department into a tizzy. "Letâs just get out of here," you muttered under your breath. As you finally heaved a sigh of relief and zipped your bag shut, a sharp click-clack of heels echoed on the sterile tiles. Your department manager, Mrs. Kim, materialized beside you, a disapproving frown etched on her face.
"Miss Y/N," she began, her voice laced with a chill that sent shivers down your spine, "I expect impeccable work from you. The quality of your work simply isn't up to par. If you can't deliver, perhaps you should consider, well, other options."
Her words cut like a knife, and she stomped off, leaving you stunned and seething. The words hung heavy in the air, a cruel echo of the whispers that had followed you all day after the incident this morning. You bit your lip to keep from shouting the retort burning on your tongue. Blinking back a surge of angry tears, you clenched your fist, the fabric crumpling under your grip. You wouldn't give them the satisfaction of seeing you crack. You had been under their watchful eyes all day, ever since this incident.
You pulled your cell phone from your pocket and dialed his number as you walked, your footsteps echoing in the empty corridor. Each ring echoed off the empty hallway, a hollow counterpoint to the pounding in your chest. The setting sun cast long shadows through the glass windows, painting the outside world in hues of orange and gold, contrasting the grey monotony you felt inside.
He answered before you even reached the elevator, his familiar voice warm and soothing. "Hello, my sweetie. Did you miss me?" Just hearing him felt like a balm for your weary soul. "H/N," you managed, voice thick with unshed tears, "Can you pick me up, please?"
He picked up on the tremor instantly. "I'll be right there," he replied without hesitation. You didn't need to explain further. He could sense something was wrong, and further questions were unnecessaryâhe knew you too well. Fortunately, it was his day off, so he could leave immediately to come to your aid.
A wave of relief washed over you as H/N's voice filled your ear. You felt infinitely grateful to have him as your boyfriend. Two years together, his presence, even just over the phone, was still a balm to your soul. Moving to Seoul six months ago had been a leap of faith, fueled by the desire to bridge the physical distance that had strained your relationship. Back then, late-night calls and stolen moments during his hectic schedule had become a constant reminder of the sacrifices both of you were making. Seoul, with its vibrant energy and proximity to H/N, had seemed like the answer. Yet, settling in had been far trickier than anticipated.
The language barrier loomed large. You'd aced countless interviews in English, your old comfort zone, but here, fluency in Korean was non-negotiable. Thanks to H/N's patient tutoring and your relentless determination to improve your Korean as soon as possible, you'd landed a job at an international company, handling correspondence with global clients. Yet, navigating the intricate web of office politics felt like scaling a slippery slope. Misunderstood emails, awkward silences during meetings, and the constant fear of making a faux pas had become your daily companions. Today, that struggle had reached a new low point, leaving you yearning for the camaraderie of your old team, a support system you now desperately missed.
The elevator doors slid open, revealing two colleagues from marketing. Their smiles were strained, their eyes flickering with a knowing glint. The air crackled with unspoken words, a sickening confirmation that news of your predicament had traveled fast. You plastered a tight smile on your face, the silence in the elevator a deafening weight. You did your best to ignore them, focusing on the glowing numbers above the elevator door. Every floor seemed to crawl by, each chime a reminder of the watchful eyes upon you. When you reached your floor, you mustered a polite goodbye and quickly stepped out, eager to escape their knowing eyes and hushed whispers following you like unwelcome ghosts.
Until H/N arrived, you took refuge in the ladies' room near the main entrance. You couldn't bear the thought of being watched any longer. As you pushed open the door, a snatch of conversation drifted from a nearby stall - the mocking laughter confirming your worst fears. Tears pricked your eyes as you recognized their voices. They were dissecting your day, turning your struggles into their entertainment. As they emerged, their faces fell in shock. An awkward silence followed, their eyes darting away as they mumbled a half-hearted apology. You offered a curt nod, the sting of their betrayal a fresh wound. Seeking solace, you retreated into a stall, the flimsy door a meager barrier between you and the world. "Please, H/N, be here soon," you silently prayed for his comforting presence. You longed for the safety of his arms, a place where judgment wouldn't sting, and the world wouldn't feel so cold.
To be continued...

Impact of COVID-19 on the Rigid Packaging Market: Resilience and Adaptation

Rigid Packaging: Enhancing Product Protection and Consumer Appeal Raw Materials and Production Techniques Rigid packaging utilizes a variety of durable materials to securely contain products. Common materials include plastic, glass, metal, and wood. Plastics like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are popular due to their light weight and shatter resistance. Glass provides visibility and barrier protection but is heavier. Metal cans made of aluminum or tinplate resist denting while maintaining recyclability. Composite materials like fiberboard combine fibers like paper, paperboard, and plastic to achieve rigidity at lower costs than solid materials. Raw materials undergo fabrication processes to form rigid containers. Plastics are blow molded, injection molded, or thermoformed. Glass undergoes forming with heat before filling and sealing. Cans are produced through three-piece drawn and wall ironed or two-piece drawn, wall ironed, and sealed methods. Composite materials require lamination of layers with adhesive plus die cutting and scoring. Automated lines coordinate shaping, decorating, filling, sealing, and packaging at high speeds. Protection from Damage and Contamination Rigid packaging superbly protects products from damage caused by external forces. Plastic, glass, metal, and composite materials withstand crushing pressures and prevent breakage that could compromise contents. Rigid containers also provide tamper evidence through unbroken seals or labels. Once sealed, consumers can trust contents were not accessed until opening. Their impermeability to gases and liquids renders rigid packages ideal for preventing contamination and preserving freshness. Plastic, glass, and metal containers create absolute barriers blocking entry of air, moisture, light, and microbes that could degrade products. Composite boards further laminate layers for multi-directional strength blocking infiltration. Certain rigid containers like canned goods even allow hot filling and retort sterilization for long shelf-stable preservation without refrigeration. Graphic customization Rigid packaging facilitates protection yet also attracts attention on shelves. Vibrant graphics, photorealistic images and infographics adorn surfaces to highlight key selling points and information about contained products. Advanced printing techniques like rotogravure, flexography and digital bring designs to life in high resolution and colors. Metallic inks, foils, and dimensional effects add richness. Containers even undergo decorative processes like label wrapping and end printing. Sustainability considerations As a long-lasting package format, rigid containers prompt consideration of sustainable practices across their lifecycles. Lightweighting initiatives reduce materials while maintaining strength. Post-consumer recycled content increases in resins and boards. Mono-material structures like all-plastic or all-aluminum facilitate recycling. Reusable versions enable multiple refill cycles before disposal. Collection infrastructure improves recycling rates for rigid plastic, metal, and glass. New recycling technologies also extract value from "mixed rigid" streams. Compostable and biodegradable materials debut for select applications. Brands participate in sustainable packaging coalitions and adopt circular economy principles including design for reuse/refill. Rigid packaging manufacturers collaborate across supply chains on initiatives like carbon footprint reduction. Consumer appeal and trust Rigid containers achieve consumer appeal through protective functionality that builds quality perceptions. Contents remain cleanly enclosed and unbroken seals signal safety. Visual customization attracts eyes on shelves while communication graphics aid decisions. Stackability and sturdiness withstand distribution without destruction. Reclosability preserves freshness of partially used products.

Judge Me Worth Epilogue
Summary: Summary: Anon Tumblr Ask: Tony must earn the approval of Peter's father to win his hand, and the man think's he's got something over the Stark Alpha, but Tony will show him.
Thanks to @the-mad-starker for being my amazing beta <3
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Read on AO3
Tags: Starker, Peter Parker/Tony Stark, ABO, Mafia Tony, SIM Tony, Richard Parker's bad parenting, offscreen violence, dorks in love, love at first sight, Mafia AU, Italian Tony, no smut, just lots of fluff, tumblr ask, courtship rituals, proud alpha Tony, reference to child abuse
The expo was loud around him, and Tony was reminded of the first expo he had gone to. It had been so different then, being in a small booth exclusively with the other people specializing in weapons like the ones he was trying to bring to the market. There were a few differences though. Like the very noticeable lack of one Parker Industries and any of their subsidiaries. Tony was rather proud of that one.
They were also in the main hall with one of the largest displays this time and Tony could barely catch a minute to himself. At least until people started listening to what he was saying. Then they all smiled awkwardly and excused themselves.
âTony, you have to stop scaring them away,â Peter said as the latest group of curious expo goers walked away.
âI donât know what youâre talking about, love,â Tony retorted, flashing his most brilliant smile.
âUh huh-â Peter started to say only to get cut off as another group walked up. These ones were likely investors if the expensive dark suits were any indication.
âAh, gentlemen, welcome to the Stark Industries booth,â Tony said, offering his hand. âIâm Tony Stark, and this is my mate, Peter.â
âNice to meet you, Alpha Stark.â The main investor shook his hand, then stepped back to let the others do the same. Tony noticed that none offered to do the same with Peter or even acknowledged his presence at Tonyâs side. His smile turned a tad sharper, and he heard Peter sigh softly. His mate knew him so well.
âSo how can I help you gentlemen?â Tony asked.
âI was hoping you could give us a bit more information on what's coming down the line for Stark Industries,â the other man said. âAn insiderâs perspective so to speak.â
âWe have a lot of projects coming down the pipeline,â Tony said, gesturing around him and stepping towards the closest display. âThereâs the medical adhesive Peter here designed to support our medics on the streets and in the field abroad. It mimics a spiderâs webbing for tensile strength while being completely sterile and capable of being applied with topical antibiotics and localized painkillers to give patients the best chance to get someplace safe.â
âThatâs a very civic minded pursuit,â the alpha investor said. âYou must be very proud of your Omega for contributing to the company.â
Tony fought back a growl, simply smiling wider and stepping to the next display while Peter coughed discreetly to cover a snicker. In their many years together, Tony always got more offended on his mateâs behalf, while Peter just found it amusing.
âThis is one of our clean the ocean initiatives,â Tony said, pointing to a small bot that looked like a roomba. âIt can be dropped in problem areas where it sucks in plastics and dissolves them to their base components using a new biochemical that Peter developed. The full size version has easily removable containers where the system sorts the chemicals, releasing those like oxygen and nitrogen that can be isolated, while containing the more destructive compounds like any chlorofluorocarbons until they can be retrieved and properly repurposed.â
Tony turned and gestured to the next case.
âSpeaking of those, Peter is already working on a way to repurpose or fully break down those components so they can be disposed of properly this time, while also trying to find alternatives for companies to use so that it doesnât become a persistent problem.â
âYour Omega is quite industrious,â the alpha said, nodding magnanimously. âTruly an asset to your company.â
âOh, Peter is very much an asset to all of my life,â Tony said. âAnd frankly, heâs the genius behind much of SI. 80% of these projects are his, after all, or were greatly influenced by his work.â
Tony drew himself up to his full height while pulling Peter up against him.
âLook, Iâm going to be straightforward with you,â Tony said. âPeter is the future of this company. Heâs smarter than anyone Iâve ever met and in time, he will fully outstrip me if he hasnât already. If you gentlemen have a problem with that, you can find someone else to throw your money at, because frankly, we donât need it. I wonât tolerate you treating my mate with disrespect when the most impressive thing Iâve done is convince this amazing person to be my mate.â
The alphas looked uncomfortable, though none were willing to speak first. Tony just rolled his eyes and pulled Peter into a kiss that was probably better suited for the bedroom if Peterâs whines were anything to go by.
âYou guys can leave anytime,â Tony said when he realized the alphas were still standing around awkwardly. âI tried to give you an opening to run away but apparently you were too dumb to take it.â
Tony took great pleasure watching their faces twist with barely controlled outrage before they stormed off in a huff.
âThat was mean,â Peter chided, though the omega didnât pull away.
âIt was exactly what they deserved,â Tony countered. âAnd I wish youâd let me do the same to the board more often too because they forget about once a quarter who the real brains of the operation is.â
âTony.â
The omegaâs tone was full of censor but Tony could see the suppressed amusement in his loveâs eyes.
âYou know, if you stopped worrying about appearances and how weâre supposed to act in front of people, youâd be a lot happier,â Tony said.
âSociety wonât change overnight just because you want it to or because you love your omega,â Peter whispered, curling into Tonyâs tight hug.
âI donât care about them, I just care that youâre happy,â Tony murmured back. âAnd that they treat you with the respect you deserve. Youâre the best of all of us.â

Love Is The Only Mission - Part 4
Liv straightened herself up as she caught a glimpse of her reflection in one of the many glass walls in the entrance area of the research facility. The complex was just as slick and shiny from the inside as it had appeared from above. She had arrived in the designated area by trans-mat which hadnât exactly been a pleasant experience. Particularly when the Doctor had pointed out how he hadnât used the TARDISâs trans-mat unit in a while, which meant - in Doctor terms - a good few centuries. Liv hadnât had the opportunity to worry about it since he had hit her with that delightful bit of information only seconds before engaging the transport. It had left her with just enough time to wonder if she would rematerialise in pieces and if so, how she could still go about killing the Doctor.
Looking around, she tried to gather information about the place before her interview was due to start but she was disappointed to find that there was nothing to learn. The entrance area was completely sterile, there wasnât much in the way of sign posts and there were no flyers or blaring vid-ads that one might have expected for marketing purposes. No, whatever the object of the research conducted here, they werenât giving anything away. Guards on all doors certainly conveyed a sense of secrecy and security.
âOff with the fairies, are we?â An impatient voice cut through Livâs thoughts. âNot the best start to a job interview.â
The med-tech turned around quickly to find a tall, stern-looking woman shooting her an glare that was both expectant and annoyed. She was wearing a lab-coat with the name âProfessor Silverâ embroidered on it.
âIâm sorry, I was just looking around,â Liv retorted, mustering up her best confident smile. âThe building, the sheer size of it⌠itâs all very impressive.â She thought it wise to compliment from the get-go, playing to the ego of a scientist was usually a safe bet.
âSo are you, Med-tech Chenka, from what I can tell from your CV. Your application was late but your qualifications put you on top of the pile. Come on through,â the professor instructed and Liv did, breathing a sigh of relief. It was a good start to be invited in, rather than turned back at the door.
âThank you,â she followed with a smile, minding her manners. Professor Silver flicked an ID badge at a security guard and showed Liv through a set of large double doors. It was only a very short walk as she steered her into a small conference room to the left. Liv tried to catch a glimpse down the corridor once they passed security but there wasnât anything to see, just long hallways of white walls and glass.
âLetâs cut straight to the chase, shall we?â The professor announced before they had even sat down. Liv took a seat across the table from Professor Silver who started flicking through her application on a data pad. âVaried training at Kaldor City Hospital, outstanding results. Extensive service on the space lanes⌠but all of this does beg the question⌠what brought you here?â She looked up, properly meeting her eyes for the first time and her gaze was inquisitive and piercing. âWeâre quite off the beaten track.â
âThat was part of the appeal, if Iâm being honest,â Liv retorted, folding her hands on the table, preparing to lay out the motivational statement her and the Doctor had agreed upon. She summoned her confidence to great effect as she smiled and said: âCan I speak candidly?â
âNothing would make me happier, I hate time wasters,â the professor nodded, raising her eyebrows with intrigue and Liv could tell she had already scored a point.
âAfter leaving the space service, I settled on Nixyce VII for a time,â she revealed conversationally and Silver frowned at the mention of the planet.
âNixyce VII?â She echoed and Liv gave an understanding smile.
âYouâve heard of it?â She deduced and Professor Silver confirmed with a nod.
âWhat I have heard makes it hard to believe youâre here,â she stated, opening the floor to a more detailed explanation that Liv was happy to provide.
âWhen the Daleks came⌠we all did what we had to do. Iâm not proud of it. But I did what I could to survive. You canât imagine the destruction the Daleks broughtâŚâ Liv found the words came easier than she would have expected. She really had done things she wasnât proud of but not in the way that she was implying now. Not in the way that really would have made her a traitor to her people. The Doctor had deemed this to be the best approach. Making herself appear morally flexible with an interest in keeping her affairs private seemed a good play if the people here really were up to no good. The expression of genuine interest on Professor Silverâs face told Liv she was on the right track so she kept going: âIn the end I fled and, well, my reputation was⌠I ran as far as I could to get away from all that. To the edge of the known universe, as it happens. So here I am. When I heard about your project I thought it a good opportunity, a wise career move. I want to do something worthwhile again.â She added the last phrase to appeal to Silverâs ego again. Surely, every scientist believed their research was the only thing worth pursuing.
âWell, you have certainly come to the right place,â the professor nodded and leaned back in her chair, assessing Liv across the table, seemingly trying to get the measure of her and contemplating her next words. The med-tech gave her a confident smile, easily holding her gaze, which seemed to do the trick. Silver carried on: âWhat do you actually know about what we work on?â
âNot very much, itâs all classified, I understand that. In my experience, truly remarkable things are always kept quiet until the right time,â Liv retorted smoothly with a small shrug to indicate that she wasnât fussed either way. She was intent of portraying the image of a confident, pragmatic and somewhat indifferent med-tech. Hopefully, just the sort of person they would want to aid them in morally dubious affairs.
âIndeed,â Professor Silver regarded her with what was probably a rare smile. She put her data pad aside and folded her hands on the table, leaning forward just enough to inspire an air of confidence between them. âYou have seen the horror of war, Miss Chenka. That is something we hope to eradicate with our work here. Would that be something youâre interested in?â
âVery much so!â Liv smiled, leaning forward as well.
âBut I do have to ask - and you will be signing a non-disclosure agreement about this-â Silver carried on and Liv interrupted confidently and enthusiastically.
âAnything, of course, I understand secrecy is of the utmost importance.â
âI hope you can appreciate that for significant progress - the greater good - some lines have to be crossed. We are at the edge of the universe for a reason. There is no restrictions here, nothing holding back progress,â the professor carried on explaining, watching her reaction carefully for any sign of discomfort. Liv just smiled and hit all her marks on the delivery of the statement intent to seal the deal.
âOf course, I understand that. I always pick the winning side, the Daleks can attest to that.â

Common food packaging technology
There are many types of food packaging that can be distinguished according to the food packaged. For example, it can be divided according to physical properties, and can be divided into liquid food packaging (including fluid and semi-fluid colloids) packaging that requires film, stick bag, stand-up bag, cup or bottle. There is also solid food packaging, which generally uses ordinary packaging bags, vacuum bags, aluminum-plated bags, aluminum foil bags, retort bags, and so on.
Packaging forms such as three-side seal, back seal, middle seal, gusset, handle, vest bag, stand-up bag, stick bag, special-shaped bag, etc. Next, in terms of subdivision, from the function, material, function and lasting ability to keep fresh, then kraft paper cake box supplierâHengtong will introduce to you several commonly used packaging technologies on the market:
ăă(1) Moisture-proof packaging
ăă Moisture-proof packaging is to use materials with a certain ability to insulate water vapor to encapsulate items to isolate the influence of external humidity on the product, or add a desiccant to the packaging container to absorb the residual moisture in the package and the moisture that penetrates from the outside. With the use of food moisture-proofing agents, we will often have moisture-proofing agents in some snack foods or durable foods such as snow cakes, biscuits, ham, seaweed and many other foods. Moisture resistance is also one of the lfgb food package box features we produce.
ăă(2) Waterproof packaging
ăăWaterproof packaging is a packaging that takes certain protective measures to prevent the contents from deteriorating and damaging due to water intrusion into the packaging container. Laminated paper is generally used, and the surface of waterproof kraft paper has a layer similar to plastic film that is waterproof. General family burger box design needs to take this into consideration. For example, the white cardboard cake boxes size produced by Hengtong takes into account the convenience and waterproof effect. White cardboard is mostly used for waterproof packaging, food packaging or label paper.
ăă(3) Anti-rust packaging
ăă Anti-corrosion packaging is a packaging that takes certain protective measures to prevent corrosion and damage to the metal items in the packaging. Generally speaking, vacuum packaging is to reduce the oxygen content in the packaging to achieve the vacuum effect. Can play an anti-rust effect.
ăă(4) Anti-mold packaging
ăă Anti-mold packaging is a packaging that takes certain protective measures to prevent mildew and corruption of articles containing organic materials when they are affected by mold, and damage the quality of the articles. For example, food cans or vacuum packaging also belong to this category. They are re-sterilized after the food is formed, so that there are very few bacteria in the food. This is also one of the lfgb food package box features we produce.
ăă(5) Dust-proof packaging
ăă Dust-proof packaging, also known as sealed packaging, is a kind of packaging that prevents dust from entering the packaging container and affecting product quality. Generally, it is manufactured in a dust-free production environment, and practical functional packaging is specially designed for the product during transportation, such as special materials, composite materials, multi-layer packaging, barrier packaging, etc.
ăă(6) Shrink packaging
ăă Shrink packaging is a kind of packaging in which articles or packages are wrapped with heat shrinkable film, and then heated to shrink the film, thereby wrapping the articles or packages tightly. The elongation of plastic packaging is very good, but it also depends on the material to expand and contract with heat.
Vacuuming is just physical deformation. The plastic material is relatively soft and can be used for vacuuming.
ăă(7) Stretch packaging
ăă Stretch packaging is a kind of packaging in which an elastic film is used to wrap the goods when stretched. When the external force is removed, the elasticity of the film itself can wrap the goods tightly. Stretch packaging can pack a single item, no matter what the white cardboard cake boxes size, it can also be used for collective packaging such as pallet packaging.
ăă(8) Inflatable packaging
ăă Inflatable packaging is a kind of packaging that puts items in a completely closed packaging container, and then replaces the original air in the container with gases such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide. At present, the gases used in inflatable packaging at home and abroad are all three types: oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen! Different products have different gases! If it is a snack food, directly all fresh products such as nitrogen, vegetables, meat, etc., it is a mixture of three gases
ăă(9)Vacuum packaging
ăăVacuum packaging is a packaging method in which items are put into airtight packaging containers, and vacuum is applied before sealing, so that the sealed container reaches a predetermined degree of vacuum. Food vacuum packaging Puts the food into the packaging bag, extracts the atmosphere in the packaging bag, and realizes the sealing process after reaching the reserved vacuum degree.
ăă(10) Breathable packaging
ăă Breathable packaging allows air to enter and exit the packaging container when the environment changes (such as temperature changes). There are also perforations in food packaging bags to prevent children from suffocating the bags on their heads. Another important reason is that if the food packaging bags are not perforated, there will be air inside. After a long period of shipping, water vapor will be generated inside. Causes the product inside to be damp and moldy. So our family burger box design takes this into consideration and will not damage the food quality.

Sleep Tight
Knock, knock.
She stirred and shook her head to gain her bearings. Dawn seemed to be wearing a shirt a size too large for her that she didnât remember putting on.
Knock, knock, knock.
âOh!â she bounded down the stairs of her loft bed, almost tripping from a mix of her rush and clumsiness. She caught her footing toward the end. âNailed it.â
She opened the door, âNijah? Adventure time-?...â
It was a black void before her. The smell of sea salt and ocean waves sprung to life, the scenery around her shifting to the Kugane markets.
Before she could understand what was going on, the scene shifted again. She appeared to be sitting in a fancy Hingan bar, a table reserved for three. Dim lights were scattered throughout the establishment. Something clicked in her head and she realized she could see clearly; she must have been dreaming. She pursed her lips at the disappointment. To her left sat someone who she knew was Carrera in an elegant raven gown, and to her right, a Xaela in a suit. Both of them fixated across the floor.
âK-Khair?â she muttered out.
The Xaela shot her an annoyed glance. âNo.â
Off in the distance, a Hyur gentleman sat at a piano, playing a gentle and alluring tune, haunting, even. âHadriel?â she asked.
âWell, at least you got one right, youâre shooting with fifty percent accuracy right now.â the Xaela muttered.
âWait, where am I?â Dawn asked, confused.
The Xaela sighed, âSome way, somehow, youâre sitting in my memories. I would ask you to leave but I have the feeling you donât know the way out.â
âAh.â she swung her feet and hummed, listening to the music.
Adala perked a brow, âSo what are you doing? Are you just going to sit there and annoy me?â
Dawn thinned her lips. âI was trying to be quiet and not annoy you.â
A hand ran through the Xaelaâs hair as she sipped her drink, âYour very presence grates on my nerves. And here I thought you mightâve wandered in here for some actual reason. An existential crisis perhaps. Some grand question as to who you are now or what to make of the predicament youâre in.â
The White Mage gave a cheesy grin to Adala, âNope. Just looking around. I⌠I donât know how I got here, to be honest.â
âProbably the brain damage. But what do I know?â she shrugged, drink in hand.
Deadpanned at her, âHey, wasnât that your fault? What was it you said? âLet me take the helm.â.â she voiced mockingly.
âIâve never met you before, but I hate you. I want you to know that. I hate you to the very core of my being.â Adala retorted.
Dawn tried to control her smirk and ended up with a scrunchy face. âOh well. Since Iâm stuck here, might as well enjoy the company and music.â She stuck her tongue out teasingly, then looked to the pianist. âHe looks younger.â
âWell, by your recollection, heâs a great many years older now. But he wasnât always.â Adala commented.
âSo he always wore those bandages? And the eye patch?â she replied.
Adala laughed, âNo, not always. He didnât always play sad music either.â
Dawn tilted her head as she regarded Adala, âWhat changed?â
âHe lost things dear to him. Things he could never replace. Since then heâs been a solemn man, alone and spiteful. But as I understand it, things have changed now.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âWell,â she scoffed, âHe has that new little wife of his and whatnot.â she waved casually, her tone grew a bit disheartened, âAnd heâs rejoined the organization. Killing us one, by one. Must be true love.â
âWhy would killing anyone mean true love? That sounds insaneâŚâ
Adala tapped on the table and took another sip of her imaginary drink. âI guess you donât understand. As long as we exist, we are a threat to each other. To people we might love. Heâs smart, moved from the bottom up and is collecting our respective soul crystals. Though why he gave you mine is beyond me. The Hadriel I know wouldâve kept it to hedge his bets. Heâs a sentimental fool.â
Dawn squeezed her eyes shut and thought really hard about orange juice, trying to wish it into existence. It was a dream, so why not? A cold glass of Lominsan OJ sat in front of her, condensation running down the sides. She gasped, a giddy smirk wore on her face as she giggled and wiggled happily before taking it in both hands. Adalaâs brow twitched as she watched her.
âWhat are you? Twelve?â Adala hissed.
âHmmmmn, what do you mean by sentimental?â she swayed at the music.
The bitter Xaela drank some more before answering, âOh, I think he knew you were going to draw from the stone. Heâs a sucker for helping the helpless. Put a little injured gaelicat with a broken wing in front of him and see just how quickly his cold demeanor melts.â
âAm I the gaelicat in this story? What does that have to do with being sentimental?â she sipped from her straw and swung her feet one after the other while sitting along the stool.
âWell, he knows I would side with the organization. Itâs nothing personal, just business.â she shrugged, âProbably feels some measure of guilt for letting me die. Coward couldnât even do it himself; heâs killing his friends and doesnât even have the courtesy to do it in person.â she huffed a heavy sigh, âBut⌠I donât blame him. Weâve all seen enough of our friends die. Killing a friend, I wouldnât wish that on my worst enemy.â
A wry smile came from the Xaela. âOf course he hasnât bothered to kill Rina or Carrera yet.â she grunted and rolled her eyes, âUgh. The manâs so soft.â she lamented, â At least Hikaru is dead, I never did like him. But, to answer your question, I think he knew you would use the crystal wrong. Youâre supposed to use the memories to learn and be better, not suck in the rich aether. A part of my soul was left imprinted on this, hence the name: Soul Crystal. And youâve absorbed that. So in some small way, I live on. And here we are; youâre sitting here, invading my private time.â
âSounds like a personal problem.â She jabbed playfully.
âLike when you almost died without me? You really need to learn how to fight. Youâre weighing everyone around you down.â
Dawn felt that one. It was personal, and as much as she was invading into Adalaâs world, she in turn had access to Dawnâs. Perhaps even more.
âI⌠Iâm trying. It hasnât been easy these last few monthsâŚâ her eyes were downcast and the mood shifted immediately.Â
It was Adala who laughed now. âLook at you. So soft that mere words pierce right through you. Anyway, what are you going to do about that little parasite in our chest, hmn?â
âOur chest? Anyway, I have to deal with one problem at a time. Right now it seems like I have to deal with trying to find a way to wake up.â she huffed with puffed cheeks.
âDid you want to wake up?â
âOf course, why wouldnât I?â she asked incredulously.
Adala chuckled and bore a sadistic smile, âOkay.. let me help you with that.â She summoned her odachi to her side and violently cleaved into Dawn.
Her eyes shot open as she looked around the clinic. She could see the plants in the waiting room and recognized the familiar, sterile scent. She moved back against the pillow gingerly so as to not rattle her brain any further.
âOh. Well, then.â
