So, apparently they’re going to make a Vampire Diaries movie? What would they even going to make it about? They killed off half the characters

I do wonder what it is that makes y’all want to assign characters sibling/general nuclear family roles so instantaneously. Like, you’re the one superimposing the “sibling-like” or “parent/child-like” qualities pretty much eight times out of ten, not the media, and yet you’ll fight with such fervor with people who didn’t take leaps and bounds to get to the same conclusions you did regardless. The characters can’t all just be good ass partners or friends or overlords or mentor/mentee or have a potential future romantic/sexual relationship together. No, they have to be siblings, their bond has to be that of an older/younger sibling. This older character has to be this younger ones “new/other” parent, and the younger has to be their child, there is simply no other way. Just being a guardian or older figure/friend in a younger character’s life isn’t an option, the character has to be the younger ones father/mother or parentified brother/sister or aunt/uncle or grumpy cousin or some shit. What’s y’all’s obsession with assigning people nuclear family roles like it’ll kill you if you don’t? Why must the connection between characters be made explicitly into something familial or elude to potential blood relation for y’all to truly view it with importance? Where the fuck did that come from?
I’ll admit that sometimes the familial titles do fit headcanon wise (or are actively canon in a way I enjoy) but other times the way characters get forced into familial roles is just painful and limiting as fuck for characterization. Not to mention how y’all’s assigning and then forced implementation of these roles often just plain undermines the characters you don’t want to deal with but don’t want to seem bigoted for feeling that way about or traps minority characters in positional cages they can’t get out because y’all don’t want them with your perfect white characters romantically.
Got a group of boys in a team and couldn’t give a shit about the one or two girl characters? Pretend they just have so much of their shit together that there’s nothing for you to flesh out and that they’re like the boys’ mother so that’s why she’s so dull when you write her. And, you can use this same method to get black and brown characters out of your way as well!
Don’t want an interracial (usually where one character is black) couple to happen, especially in canon? Oh, just say they’re best friends and aggressively remind that to everyone at every goddamn turn. Or, alternatively, stress that they’re like brother and sister to you so you just can’t see them “that way” and tell that to fucking everybody even when no one’s asked.
Don’t want a third (usually female) character in a group of three to get “in the way” of your favorite (usually male) otp? Oh, just make her their daughter or (usually younger) sister. Bam! Problem solved!
Yes, I’m talking about Iron Dad & Spider Son. And Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, & Duke Thomas’s treatment in fandom. And Velvette from Hazbin Hotel and the way people treat her role in The Vees. And Damon Salvatore’s relationship with Bonnie Bennett’s treatment by TVD creators and fans (both the writing off of Bamon as a ship and ignoring of their strong friendship outside of being able to use it as evidence to further undermine Bamon as a romantic couple). And Doctor Strange and America Chavez in the MCU. And….
#I’m hating but I’m fine with that#it almost never makes any sense either#y’all just talk so much shit sometimes#like there’s making comparisons to your own relationships and then acting like those few comparisons are a character’s end all be all role#fandom critical#fandom criticism#✨trix speaks✨

I'm seeing this a lot recently so I figured I should step in (don't take this as a call out, OP. It is really happening a lot).
The first and most obvious reason is that this is a common fantasy trope. Immortal, supernatural being x teenage girl. I can think of a few off the top of my head, but the first and most popular one you'll probably know is Peter Pan. There's also Beauty and the Beast.
A reversal of it would be hotel Transylvania, where Mavis is the immortal creature and Johnny the young human man.
Which brings me to the second point. Vampires. Stephanie Garber is obsessed with vampires. And truth be told, vampire romances were the big trope of the 2000's, all of which featuring a teenage girl with an immortal, older being.
TVD, Buffy and Twilight are here to name a few. So it is only natural for her to use that in her books.
So yeah, no one is talking about it because it is just a harmless fantasy trope (seeing as immortal beings and men that don't age don't exist). You'd also have to apply that logic to Julian and Scarlett. He is at least 80 years older than her, and by normal standards an 18yo with an 80 year old would also be creepy as fuck.
You are allowed to dislike it even with the explanations, but it isn't especially weird or even new or anything. That's just how fantasy works.
why is no one weirded out that Legend was making out with a 16 year old Tella 🙄🙄 this man was in his 20s when he stopped ageing 😬😬
#caraval#stephanie garber#legend#tella dragna#donatella dragna#not gonna tag his real name bc spoilers

Why do you think Klaus fans hate Caroline? Not all do but many and some of them judge Caroline for sleeping with Klaus. They said she betrayed Tyler and it doesn't make sense Caroline would ever like Klaus after Klaus killed Tyler's mom. But they don't blame Klaus for killing Tyler's mom or torturing Tyler. Basically why do you think Klaus fans blame Caroline for evil things Klaus did?
I think that it depends which portion of Caroline fans you ask. Because there are lines in the sand when it comes to her fandom and that sadly is broken up in factions pertaining to her own ships. Klaus is the better liked half of Klaroline, I would argue that's true in this fandom. Not overwhelmingly, but he was imo, the more popular half.
Now if you ask Caroline fans who also shipped Klaroline, like myself, you'll get an answer that does sadly boil down to a ship, but not quite in the way someone would think. As someone who loved Caroline in the earlier seasons, I loved her with Tyler in its beginning, I had zero issues. When those two no longer worked, we saw Caroline sort of point out why. And their fallout was natural. Tyler was no longer able to put his relationship with Caroline as any kind of a priority---repeatedly. And their relationship suffered for it, so they ended it, her input included.
Now, as a Caroline fan, that's great. Something kept not working, she gave it several chances, one could even argue one too many, but she didn't stick around and allow herself to keep getting the short end of the stick. The same cannot be said for her and Stefan. For Caroline to so consistently rank like number five and six for that man, and keep racing back for more. For their relationship to continuously suffer because he not only wasn't capable, but also refused, to give her even half the percentage she gave him---and for her to become a pretzel artist each and every time to keep it going? Nah. Like how does someone root for a character like that? I didn't. By S8, she could've died and I legitimately don't know if I would've cared on a character basis. I would've been pissed because all TVD knew how to do was make women suffer, but would I have fundamentally cared within the storyline??? I honestly don't know. In retrospect, I don't think I would've. I think I would've been relieved not having to hear about her being a doormat anymore.
That's how fed up she had me by that point. I no longer rooted for Caroline because Caroline was written for three seasons straight to not root for herself. An answer in line with what you're saying you've seen people say, is more likely something in the ballpark of something a former forwood shipper might say. I would disagree with that ofc, but that's my two cents on thaaaaat.

With all the revivals and the cw situation (sale), i will not be surprised to see a TVD revival in the next 5 years for a special season. And i think most of the actors would be okay to comeback.
EHHHH, I'm not sure that I agree they'd come back, tbh. A reboot, however, that's for sure in the future, no doubt about it. I just hope that if and when it does get rebooted, our bbys are done right by.

How come SNL is a live show where everything is done so fast-paced yet their wigs which are more elaborate and different, look 1000 times better than the wigs used in TO and Elena’s TVD wig in S8? Like they look better than on a show that is pre-taped, not live, not fast paced where they have time to breathe and put wigs on so they look their best and realistic.
THE PIPIN HOT TEA THERE, MY FRIEND. Like SNL does all that stuff in between commercials and it’s on point, tf was S8 TVD’s excuse, we---

That scene is underrated from a Klaus and Klaroline perspective but god, at the same time it pisses me off because of Julie and Damon’s response.
Yeah that “be bad with a purpose” was bullshit because there were quite a few moments where Damon was bad with no purpose whatsoever, and the same goes for Klaus.

Bitch part of me would hate to see TVD rebooted, but another part is also FUCK YES bc I know whoever will be running it won't be as dumb as JP and make KC happen
Exactly how I feel, absjhbdhjabsa. Like on the one hand ‘oh god not again’ but on the other hand, possible vindication for a whole list of things is tempting.

Not a K/C fan but at least they allowed Caroline to be upset with and ream Klaus. Was just watching some 4x18 scenes and she really didn't budge with him. She told him that he deserved to suffer for everything he's done, she didn't baby him unlike Elena with whiny Damon. Caroline is allowed to be mad and not talk with him when he's done wrong but with delena Elena has no agency and I don't understand that at all. Imagine someone killing your brother then the next day talking with their killer.
Hello there! Yes, that’s definitely one of the appeals that Klaroline had from the beginning, I feel. That they had her be upset when she needed to be, angry when she had every right to be, and she never wavered on it. And then only allowed their relationship to progress when she saw actual progress in him, and subsequently in their dynamic. It’s a factor to their relationship that was very crucial, and one you can’t say the same about with SC and CK, and often DE too.

To be fair and you probably don't care to see this in your inbox lmao, but Klaus and Caroline met when she was already a vamp, which put them on more equal footing even though he was obviously much older than her. The Salvabros usually dominated over Elena in S1-S3 and then when she was finally turned into a vamp in S4 she got sired to Damon so I always felt like the cards were stacked against her from the beginning. IDK, TVD is pretty terrible with things like autonomy and like, empowerment.
Fair enough, anon. But yes, TVD has always had a horrific amount of imbalance when it came to their male and female characters. And then like on top of that imbalance, there was also how much Damon was prioritized over everyone else. JP made absolutely zero effort to hide that favoritism.

One of the reasons why Delena and Stelena Lost their appeal to me (because during season 1 to 3 I was obsessed with the whole triangle of it all) was because Elena accepted everything. She babied them. If Damon killed someone, (he was just upset) and if stefan killed someone (he didn't mean to do it). Whereas, when klaus did something wrong, she would make it VERY clear that what he did was wrong, shes not okay with it, even give him the silent treatment. but once progress is made she acknowledge
Yaaas, I actually liked the triangle in early TVD. Alright, liked is a strong word, but I wasn’t bored by it.
And yup, too many excuses got made for Damon and Stefan, to the point where I was like why is it even a debate, don’t pick either one of them, they’re both garbage.

Your opinion about Caroline is pretty much how I felt. That’s like she had no self-respect for herself. People compare her to Season 1 but it was worse because even compelled teenage Caroline could stand up to Matt and even Damon.
Zero self-respect for herself, and she said some shit in S8, lordyyyyy the cringe was real.

People act like Plec's protagonists (like Hope) are some sort of anomaly in terms of how much adoration they receive—that's just how most protagonists are treated. They are, quite literally, the center of everyone's attention. And I saw people call Caroline a self-insert only during TVD's struggle years, which indicates that the bad writing for her character was a symptom of the show's overall declining quality in writing.
Ehhh, I have to disagree. I’d say JP really dials it up to MAX how much focus goes on her leads, particularly the female one’s. Elena, Hayley, Hope, aaaalllllll have been dealt the same set of cards, and it’s too much. Like they’re always the most special of the special, everyone wants to be with them, it’s gotta dial down.
And even when Caroline was at the forefront, it wasn’t even close to the same. But that is the case, the show in general became bad, so the individual character narratives followed. And Caroline became the worst, like talk about a character who just got narratively rammed into the ground.
