Today's "I woke up and threw this into the void" thought is:

Enver getting injured on a job. Not fatally, but enough it slows him down a bit. Maybe he busts up his knee. Durge hoisting one his arms over their shoulder and dragging him the rest of the way.

Durge isn't a doctor but they know the body. When they're sure they're safe they carelessly let him fall over. "Consider it punishment for your fuck up." Before tending to his injuries.

Most likely, making vaguely threatening comments along the way. To anyone but Gortash, this is the most confusing situation. He sees past it. "Apologies for worrying you, my dear." No response, just more applied pressure on his wound.

The hiss of pain he let's out is followed by a knowing chuckle.

Hmm, I realised I inadvertently made some references to the Steel Warband on GW2 with my Commander's cubs' future warband. Subconscious inspiration I guess aha. Even though I created these characters before I knew Steel's full stories.

Ryland / Galvar = The confident leader, son of a hero

Cinder / Lorranu = The second in command, a voice of reason (plus has a thing for the leader)

Nicabar / Allius = The warband support, prefers to create and heal than hurt and destroy

Vishen / Vita = The soldier who enjoys the battle, not progressing her position

Ranoah / Patia = The warband's engineer, and close to the battle-thrilled soldier

Character Nickname Ideas

Hmmm this is actually a tricky one to answer.

Each character will have their own set of cultural backgrounds, quirks, strengths, weaknesses and relationship dynamics, which can all contribute to a nickname.

Here are some common things writers do for nicknames:

Shorten their given name. Mireya becomes Rey. Christopher becomes Chris.

Alter their given name. If you add a “y” sound, it implies the person using the nickname thinks of the character as young or childlike. So Alexa becomes Lexie. William becomes Billy.

Base their nickname on a physical trait. This can be straightforward or ironic. The large man is Tiny. The pretty girl named Honor is Bell/Beauty.

Pick a personality trait. School kids might call your main character Sassy Cassy. The con man might be called Prince Charming because of his smooth-talking skills.

Base their nickname on their profession or an accomplishment. So many characters are called Doc, Prof, or Chairman.

Base it on Monsters: ie. Balrog, Loch, Golen, Orthros, Baal, etc.

Base it on Mythology. Lots of authors have used names from Greek/Roman mythology, and readers have loved it!

Here are two personal examples:

Use initials. My name is Junhui Lee, and those who aren't familar with Asian names struggle to pronoun it correctly. So I just go by "JH"

In Korean culture, (1) people's names are usually three chracters: ie. Jun+hui+Lee and (2) We put surnames in front, not at the back of our names: ie. Lee Junhui, not Junhui Lee. Close friends would address each other as "surname + first character of the given name". So my friends would call me Lee Jun.

A character not liking their nickname

Doesn't necessary mean it has to be a funny nickname. They can dislike it because they somehow feel like only their parents/siblings call them that, or they feel childish, or the tone in which the other person says it is too teasing.

Depends on the origin and meaning behind the nickname. Was it made up by bullies in primary school and its just happened to stick? Was it given to them by their late grandparents? The anme

I've asked before "what if Gortash found Durge after Orin's attack" but im really interested to hear some different ideas of "what if Gortash found Durge after Orin's attack and their memory was still pulp".

I feel there is some fun variation depending on who is writing and how they characterize them both.

"Leaving Durge to die" is an option but thats boring.

I'm toying with the idea of him keeping them around. Feeding them half truths (and sometimes whole truths when it helps). Testing the waters to see if they're still useful to him like this. Without Bhaal's voice in their head constantly but their killer instinct and creative genius is certainly in tact. He has to work fast if he intends to seize this chance.

There IS a tadpole in their head after all and Enver can't keep them hidden from Orin forever.

my self indulgent ass is also all about Enver taking the chance to reintroduce Durge to his personal lifestyle. The Chosen of Bhaal turned into the Chosen of Bane's personal bodyguard and assassin and occasional high society side piece? Why not? They've probably been that before. Re-training their Urge. Maybe even taking them under the Black Hand's wing until they can tie more pieces of memory together. Idk man this part is just for me.
