I love that the Discovery crew hugs each other and says “I love you” out loud. Emotional constipation is not a requirement of 32nd century Starfleet.

So one thing I thought about after the finale was how Starfleet revealed a Protostar-class ship, but by the 32nd century, during Seasons 3 and 4 of Discovery, there were none. After the Burn, as long as they weren’t affected, a ship with a protodrive would have been really helpful to the Federation. So I have 3 theories as to what happened to the Protostar-class ships between the events of Prodigy and the events of the last two seasons of Discovery:
1) Starfleet decided to retire them/not make them anymore. They are awfully dangerous if the protostars breach containment, after all. They could have easily decided to retire them after a few catastrophic incidents
2) The Protostar-class ships were affected by the Burn somehow and exploded with the rest of Starfleet’s dilithium-powered ships
3) After the Burn, the Protostar-class ships did survive but then in the 100 years in between the Burn and the Discovery arriving in the future something happened to them that made them unusable or they went supernova and Starfleet didn’t have the resources to make another one

probably for the best that we’re likely never going to see Michael and Book get married on screen because I would’ve been lowkey annoyed if I had to watch her get married in her dress uniform or worse and not like, the Iris Van Herpen fungi collection, or a Gersha Phillips original
#star trek discovery#michael burnham#cleveland booker#human-vulcan captain of the mushroom ship getting married#in anything less than fungi-inspired haute couture is a travesty#thinking about how Gersha used a van herpen for one of the s4 federation scenes then T’Pring had one for her wedding gown in snw#listen I know Michael would not want to get married in anything other than her dress uniform#but a girl can dream#and by worse I mean I know those two would get married on a whim in a bog or some shit after almost dying

good news everyone! I’m now thinking about rayner and book fucking, initially for triangulation purposes (because they are both in love with michael) and then because they catch feelings for each other
#when I say that polyamory in fic is best when it makes things even messier this is what I mean 🥰#the problem is I will probably have to rewatch s3 and s4 to write this and they left me very cold#maybe I can get away with rereading some wiki entries and only rewatching a few episodes#star trek: discovery#jules.txt

I just -- I have an aversion for blue filters, I don't know why but aesthetically, they put me off.
Also the difference from Discovery season 1:
To season 4:
The warm tones are gone, it's just cold light and, no random extras.
On one hand, it's truly great they're still implementing Covid protocols, on the other hand, it just adds to the cold feeling the season 4 hallway gives off.
There also used to be color contrasts in the hallway.
I think, in general industry-wide, something happened with color grading like how somehow cinematographers suddenly forgot how to light night/dark scenes.

what do you bet spock was thinking "i also have a sister but you don't know that either" during this scene
#discovery adds a really interesting layer to this movie#aside from the obvious spock sibling drama#there's the great barrier thing and how discovery S4 has the crew also going through the galactic barrier#emma watches star trek

Michael and Book are my favorite couple in modern Star Trek. My GOD. Their chemistry! The way they trust each other and work flawlessly as a team EVEN WHEN THEY’RE ON OPPOSITE SIDES! The way Michael breaks down and then has to pull herself together to finish the mission when she thinks he died in front of her! I’m going to lose it.

still a bit annoyed that disco’s final season unintentionally focused on someone else’s return to the captains chair after taking three whole seasons to make Michael captain, an entire season after Saru, and only after he stepped down
#star trek discovery#michael burnham#also every captain of Discovery besides Michael was either a white dude or a white dude in prosthetics#Star Trek owes us a Shenzou prequel with Georgiou and Michael as captain and XO and Keyla in the pilots seat#(also I know Michael and Saru were captains within the same season however we’re talking season premiere to finale distance#that’s an entire season)#this isn’t a critique of the narrative explanation for it either#Michael wasn’t ready to be captain in 3x01#but the deeply antagonistic way they explored this all throughout s3 & s4#felt unnecessarily critical if that’s the right word#the continuation of this into S4 while skipping her actual early days of captaincy was also frankly not a great choice#they spent 6 whole months exploring the galaxy having ups and downs#and s4 opens with a down and then spends another 3 episodes critiquing Michael and holding weird political double standards via Rillak#like she’s the protagonist of the show but the show doesn’t like her half the time

Please sate my curiosity.
There is one episode of Star Trek Discovery left. If you are a Star Trek fan in ANY capacity, please answer this. For the purpose of this poll, "drop" means that you stopped watching and do not intend to continue. If you do intend to continue but simply aren't caught up, choose the second to last option.
I am asking out of scientific curiosity. This is not intended to spread negativity about Discovery, or encourage anyone to do so by interacting with this poll. I'm simply curious as to, truly, how many people have stuck out Discovery up to this point and what the general fandom temperature is on each component.
