Yandere Scaramouche x Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
/// Last Meal
Summary:
As a puppet, Scaramouche doesn’t eat. Nevertheless, this never stopped him from making each meal a nightmare for you.
warnings: implied not sfw content, yandere themes, unhealthy dynamics, forced feeding
Tumblr media
Dolls can’t eat.
With porcelain limbs and glass eyes, they simply stare. They are nothing more than a marionette for delirious fantasies and fleeting delights. The slice of chiffon cake cut by a child for their tea party won’t be consumed; it will stale and rot just as myopic innocence does. But, perhaps, playtime never truly ends. The heated escaping from reality still remains even as sheets ruffle and hearts eloquently intertwine. At least that’s what it felt like with him.
You gave your toys away long ago. Yet it seems one remained amidst all the forgotten joy.
As adventurers, your parents loved to travel. Wanderlust was their drug. They injected it into you each time they returned with a shining souvenir. However, you never remembered them giving you a doll from Inazuma with fair skin, lavender eyes, and sleek hair. Nevertheless, memories tend to fail like crystalline bubbles bursting after time.
You froze.
There it was again. The violent tug of a string. The turning of a disk.
“Servants. Prepare them for dinner.”
You hated that privileged voice laced with condescension and perpetual authority.
“Make haste. I have a special dish planned for this evening. Everything must be perfect. Do you hear me clearly!”
The shoji doors of your room opened all too quickly. Two maids dressed in violet kimonos walked in. They cruelly snatched your wrists and tugged at your arms to drag you to the master bathroom. Nails dug into your scalp whilst they skinned you and washed you in boiling water. Soon, they seasoned you with perfume and rouge before coating you in an intricate silk kimono. Scrutinizing eyes examined you before nodding and serving you on a silver platter.
After being delivered, you carefully sat down on the tatami, making sure not to ruin your dolled-up appearance. There was nothing yet on the chabudai table. Usually, by now, the food would have been ready. Kunikuzushi isn’t the most patient man. Blood nearly spilled from your bitten lip as scorching curiosity festered.
What was taking so long?
The Balladeer’s eyes lit up dangerously as he saw the chefs enter the room. The dish was hidden by a stainless steel cover. He smirked, “Close your eyes.”
You did as you were told. You knew he wouldn’t shut his. He loved to soak up every bit of his joy ride.
Clank. Click. Thump.
The plates met wood. The ice moved in each glass. The liquid sloshed as the chefs poured your drinks. You tried to smell what was being served, but oddly there was nothing. No aroma. No fragrance. No stench.
What was it?
The final sound of the metallic cover leaving the ceramic plate brought shivers.
“Open your eyes, my dear.” Someone pulled the doll’s string.
Your heart dropped.
The first thing you felt was his stare. It was brimming with untold secrets of antipathy and wandering eccentricities.
Lavender eyes oozed with heavenly pleasures as you gawked at the thinly cut fragments of translucent death. Each delicate piece of toxic flesh was arranged into an elegant chrysanthemum. You looked back to your lover and shuddered at the similarities.
You heard it again. The sound of porcelain joints moving.
“Oh, don’t be like that now. I thought this could be my time to show you my culture. This is a delicacy, after all. Fugu sashimi.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, my love. I’m sure it’s lovely. But, unfortunately, I’m not that hungry.”
He sharply tilted his head and seethed, “Don’t give me that. I know you haven’t eaten yet.”
You held your breath as he continued the ruthless butchering. You could never escape his eternal gaze. It was engraved in every servant in the estate.
“I’m a Harbinger, not some run-of-the-mill soldier. It’s safe. Now, eat it. Or are you going to continue embarrassing the work my chefs I imported from Inazuma, just for you, have prepared? Are you aware they train for years to make this dish?”
You shakily picked up the ornate chopsticks, struggling to hold them correctly.
“I-I’m not very adept at using these. Maybe you can teach me another day?” The humiliating cracks in your voice, like splattering raindrops, didn’t help your pathetic case.
Scaramouche never did once shut his eyes as he contoured a sickly wry smile, “Fine. Have it your way.”
Why must your heart whine so hopefully? The man crafted from sorrow and transient love could never be so tender. Lightning is quick and merciless. A guillotine of vengeance decapitating doting ambitions. Thunder is compelling and ostentatious. Similar to his signature kasa, bedecked with grim veils and chimes. Those who hear the melody know what is to come.
“Use your hands then.”
“W-What?”
He stood up. Straightening his posture. Each object in the dining room bore witness to his everlasting reign of terror. Kunikuzushi scoffed, rolling those blank glass eyes, “Or are you too stupid to use them too. Eat it before I force it down your throat.” He made his way towards you.
This time you heard a golden key enter his back. The screeching noise clawed at your senses as he was winded up.
Your head remained still. Looking at the dish. Perhaps if you weren’t with the Harbinger, you could enjoy it but just as Teyvat looms with wicked deception, so too does his mind cloud with poisonous delusions.
Everything stopped.
The hairs on your skin stood as his electrifying breath met your sweaty neck. Tying you down. Bargaining with you to succumb to familiar, mouthwatering touches.
You didn’t move.
Overflowing with annoyance, he snatched your chopsticks and plucked a single petal from the ghastly chrysanthemum. You tried to swallow your own saliva, but your throat closed up as the poisonous delicacy neared. With nimble fair hands, he gently lifted up your chin from your downward fixated gaze. You saw his gorgeous lavender eyes; you shifted your eyes lower. He smiled so lovingly.
It was so beautiful, so new, so ephemeral. You gasped.
In that brief moment of devotion, he hastily shoved the sashimi into your mouth. You wanted to cry, spit it out, and run away, but he forcibly held your jaw and cheeks, clamping your mouth shut. The smile was long gone by the time you were forced to swallow. Eyes bulged and rounded when you were let go. You vigorously coughed and looked at his handsome blissed-out face as you rubbed your face to ease the swelling pain.
“Now, that wasn’t so bad.”
Tears yearned to spill. You felt it all. The tingling around your mouth. The lack of breathing. The nausea. The lightheadedness. Doomsday was coming. You were sure. The Harbinger only desired to gain more, to shatter the sinful hall of mirrors distorting Teyvat. Every pawn had its expiration date. Even you. The neurotoxins must be slaughtering every quaint daydream and executing each whimper of wishful departure from this labyrinth of an estate.
You frightfully convulsed, gripping the chabudai as your vision blurred and chest heaved. Kunizushui exasperatedly sighed, looking at the ticking hour and minute hand on the clock but reluctantly held you in his arms as you lost your strength. Feeble eyes darted all around, avoiding the graceful flower on the wooden table, missing a dainty petal.
“I knew humans were pitiful beings, but I never imagined it would be this bad. It’s been an hour. You’re fine. If I wanted you dead, I wouldn’t have spent all that money.” he clicked his tongue.
You jolted at his sinister reasoning and the realization of how much time had passed.
The Inazuman being neither divine nor mortal, loosened your kimono, caressing your face and body, cradling you in his porcelain arms. His incessant lavender eyes still observed your form riddled with paranoia.
“My dear, let’s eat. You must be starving.”
One by one, Scaramouche carefully picked each petal of flesh from the chrysanthemum and placed it in your mouth, and watched as you sobbed and unwillingly chewed.
He loves me.
He loves me not.

Thanks for reading!! (๑‵●‿●‵๑)
If you are confused, fugu sashimi (pufferfish sashimi) is a highly poisonous Japanese dish (usually shaped as a chrysanthemum) that only chefs who have trained for many years and have taken a test are allowed to serve due to its potency, which is about 1200 times stronger than cyanide.

From the Strategist: The 37 Best Gifts for Every Type of Home Cook
Tumblr media
Photo: Courtesy Retailer
From cookbook stands to kimchi containers, there’s literally something for everyone
When you’re trying to come up with gift ideas for someone who likes to cook, you want to find something that’s both personal and practical. But finding a gift for a home cook that strikes that balance can be hard, especially if you’re the kind of person whose fridge is filled with takeout containers. That’s why we’ve gathered 37 of the best gifts for every type of home cook in your life — from the newbie who just wants to make a good grilled cheese to the home cook who has it all.
For the home cook who has everything
Tumblr media
ChefSteps Joule Sous Vide, 1100 Watts, All White
They might not think they need a sous vide machine, but that’s exactly what makes it a great gift for an experienced chef, who can use it to make always-tender steaks, never-overcooked fish, and even soft-scrambled eggs.
For the home cook who would rather use a cookbook
Tumblr media
Photo: retailer
Yamazaki Home Tosca Cookbook Stand
A minimalist plywood cookbook-stand for those who still like reading recipes on paper — though it can also hold up a tablet.
For the home cook who’d like to throw more dinner parties
Tumblr media
MYDrap Cotton Cocktail Napkins
We were introduced to these tear-off linen napkins by Tonne Goodman, who discovered them at a boutique in Paris. “Instead of having a stack of napkins that needs to be spread out in an attractive fashion and then wrestled with to gingerly pick just one, you just simply tear each napkin off,” she writes.
For the home cook who wants only one pot
Tumblr media
Dansk Kobenstyle White Casserole
This Dutch oven from Dansk has a mid-century design that’s easy to cook with but still looks good on the dinner table. It’s made of carbon steel, so it’s lighter than cast-iron Dutch ovens but it’s still sturdy enough to sear, braise, sauté, and bake anything you want.
For the home cook who’s not over avocados
Tumblr media
Prepworks by Progressive Guacamole Bowl with Spoon
Let’s make avocado-ware the new lettuceware.
For the home cook who got really into celery juice
Tumblr media
Breville Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor
It’s still unclear if celery juice is actually good for you, but if that’s what they’re into, this juice extractor from Breville is powerful enough to make sure none of the stringy bits make it into the liquid (and can be used to make lots of other types of juices, too).
For the home cook who watches The Great British Baking Show every Friday
Tumblr media
Baking with Kim-Joy: Cute and Creative Bakes to Make You Smile
During her time in the tent, Kim-Joy built a reputation for making delicate pastries with adorable decorations and clever flavor combinations, and in this cookbook, she shares some of her most whimsical recipes — like “pigfiteroles” in mud.
For the home cook who just got into bread-making
Tumblr media
Banneton Bread Proofing Basket
Unlike contestants on The Great British Bake-Off, most of us don’t have proofing drawers in our homes. So a proofing basket — used to hold the bread during its second, pre-baking rise — is the next best thing for at-home bread-making: This three-piece set includes a linen nonstick liner for a smooth outer crust and a plastic dough scraper that conforms to the curves of your mixing bowl.
For the home cook who loves to grill on the go
Tumblr media
Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill
Mark Jenner, the editor-in-chief of barbecue site FoodFireFriends.com, swears by this portable grill from the folks at Weber, which includes legs that fold over the lid and a convenient rectangular form. You can even create two grilling zones for high-heat and low-heat grilling.
For the home cook who wants to make their own sauerkraut and kimchi
Tumblr media
E-Jen Premium Kimchi, Sauerkraut Container Earthenware Brown 1.7L
Recently, we had two chefs heartily endorse this incredibly affordable and effective container as a go-to fermentation vessel. “It’s really useful because it has an insert that essentially creates a vacuum to press down your ferments,” chef Dave Park of Jeong in Chicago told us. “It has an inner ring where you can either burp your ferments or keep it airtight. It’s definitely one of the most useful containers I’ve found.”
For the home cook who’s also good at Instagram
Tumblr media
Departo Large Plate
Why does professional food photography look so good? In part because of food stylists, whose job is to choose all those attractive plates and cups and tablecloths to enhance the food. If your favorite home cook loves to share their latest grain salads and roast chicken on the ’gram, give them some plates that will look great underneath.
For the home cook trying to eat more greens
Tumblr media
Prepworks by Progressive Collapsible Salad Spinner - 4 Quart
This collapsible salad spinner is a great gift for the recent college grad who’s got a small kitchen and big culinary ambitions.
For the home cook who’s a salt snob
Tumblr media
Maldon Salt Bucket
Tonne Goodman also told us about this bucket of Maldon sea salt, which, she admits, “seems a bit extreme, but then again, salt fanatics do exist. I gave it to my brother-in-law, who is a wonderful cook, and he laughed and loved it.”
For the home cook who loves leftovers
Tumblr media
LunchBots Large Snack Tray Steel Lunch Container
This stainless-steel lunch box is meant for children, but it’s stylish enough to bring to the office (when you return to one, that is) and has enough room for a mini-buffet of leftovers.
For the home cook who identified with Antoni on Queer Eye
Tumblr media
Philips Indoor Smoke-less Grill
Culinary expert Antoni Porowski gifted this smokeless, infrared indoor grill to two different guys over the course of two seasons, and you can now gift it, too.
For the home cook who’s trying to use fewer paper towels
Tumblr media
Nawrap Binchotan Dishcloth
These dishcloths have odor- and bacteria-absorbing charcoal infused into their fibers, so they’ll last a little longer between washes.
For the home cook who’s trying to use less plastic
Tumblr media
Bee’s Wrap Assorted, 3-Pack
These reusable food wraps are made by infusing cotton with beeswax, and they can be used over, and over, and over again — and once they’re finally done for good, they can be composted.
For the home cook who’s ready to compost
Tumblr media
Brabantia Sort & Go Waste Bin
If they know that composting is a thing they should do but have always been turned off by ugly compost bins.
For the home cook who’s ready for fresh spaghetti
Tumblr media
Marcato Atlas Pasta Machine
According to Linda Miller Nicholson, author of Pasta, Pretty Please and the pasta-maker behind the colorful Instagram account Salty Seattle, the Marcato Atlas is the gold standard of pasta machines. And if you need more proof that it’s a good gift: It also made an appearance on Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding registry.
For the home cook who needs fresh herbs
Tumblr media
Click and Grow The Smart Garden 3
This indoor vegetable-and-herb garden is self-watering and has a built-in grow light and pre-seeded plant pods to grow fresh cilantro, basil, and even chili peppers if the kitchen has no windows.
For the home cook who loves their knives
Tumblr media
John Boos Chop-N-Slice Maple Wood Reversible Cutting Board
Cutting boards wear out over time, so any serious home cook will appreciate a brand-new, nice-looking cutting block that’ll protect their sharpened blades.
For the home cook who doesn’t have knives
Tumblr media
Takiup Ceramic Knife Set
These ceramic knives aren’t perfect, or the fanciest, but according to writer Hannah Howard, they’re excellent for everyday kitchen tasks, and sometimes she prefers using these cheaper blades to her fancy Japanese chef’s knife. Plus, she notes, “I throw the set in the dishwasher with every use, and it has remained in excellent shape.”
For the home cook who keeps accidentally slicing their fingers
Tumblr media
Benriner BN1 Mandoline
Chef Gabriel Kreuther likes this Japanese mandoline, which comes with an assortment of blades and its own plastic safety covering to prevent slipping fingers from getting julienned, diced, or chopped.
For the home cook who’s channeling the 1970s
Tumblr media
Home Intuition 3-Tier Hanging Basket Heavy Duty Wire
Especially if they read the Missoni Family Cookbook and now want to create a dreamy Italian kitchen of their own.
For the home cook who’s still using that slow cooker from the 1970s
Tumblr media
Instant Pot 6 Qt 7-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker
You’ve heard about the Instant Pot even if you don’t cook. It steams, it pressure cooks, it makes yogurt, and it’s got over 36,000 reviews on Amazon, so it’s kind of a no-brainer.
For the home cook who got an Instant Pot last year
Tumblr media
OXO Good Grips Pressure Cooker Bakeware Sling
Some good Instant Pot accessories will help them make the most of their favorite kitchen gadget, like this silicone sling, which they can use for baking cakes or steaming vegetables in their multifunction pressure cooker.
For the home cook who’s already obsessed with a Vitamix
Tumblr media
Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter
This personal cup adapter is a great gift for those who make smoothies in their Vitamix but find the standard 64- or 72-ounce cup a little too big for everyday use, especially since this one fits on basically any legacy model.
For the home cook who struggles to clean their cast-iron skillet
Tumblr media
Blisstime Cast Iron Cleaner
This little square of chainmail will make removing crud and burnt bits from a cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven a relatively quick and easy task.
For the at-home pit master who likes to grill on an open flame
Tumblr media
Texsport Heavy-Duty Over-Fire Camp Grill - Extra Large
This extra-large over-fire camp grill is made from steel, and, according to writer Steven John, it’s got plenty of room for “racks of ribs, multiple Texas-size steaks, or a whole lot of kabob skewers.”
For the home baker with limited counter space
Tumblr media
KitchenAid Artisan Mini Series Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, 3.5 quart
This mini–stand mixer has all the functionality of a standard KitchenAid mixer, but, as writer Erica Murphy notes, “It’s 25 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller,” meaning it’s great for small kitchens.
For the home cook who can taste the difference between Italian and Spanish olive oils
Tumblr media
Nunez De Prado Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tin, 33.8 Ounce
A handsome tin of olive oil from Spain that has “hints of grassiness, almonds, and butter,” according to chef Jonathan Waxman.
For anyone who likes to read about food as much as they like to eat it
Tumblr media
The Best American Food Writing 2019
An anthology of the best food essays from the past 12 months, including a deep dive into Japanese KitKats and the queer history of tapas, all edited by Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat’s Samin Nosrat.
For the ice cream enthusiast who dreams of the perfect scoop
Tumblr media
Zeroll Original Ice Cream Easy Scoop
This ice cream scoop is “the only ice cream scoop” that Jeni Britton Bauer, the creator of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, will even acknowledge. It’s designed to transfer heat from your hand to the spoon, making it easy to get the perfect scoop from even frozen-solid ice cream. (For bonus points, pair this with a pint or two of ice cream.)
For the college student looking to hack the perfect dorm-room grilled cheese
Tumblr media
Nostalgia TCS2 Grilled Cheese Sandwich Toaster
Decidedly safer than trying to melt cheese with an iron.
For the home cook who puts cracked pepper on everything
Tumblr media
Atlas Copper Pepper Mill
Give a pepper mill that makes a statement. According to writer Juliet Lapidos, this copper one looks like “a tool you’d find at an archaeological dig and — for just that reason — always attracts attention at dinner parties.”
For the 5-year-old who’s just learning their way in the kitchen
Tumblr media
Curious Chef 3-Piece Nylon Knife Set
These nylon knives are designed for little foodies who are at least 4 years old, to help them learn basic knife skills while minimizing risk.
For the home cook who’d rather be making cocktails
Tumblr media
Be Your Own Bartender: A Surefire Guide to Finding (and Making) Your Perfect Cocktail

Julia Child is my food heroine.  We have so much in common — we are both a little awkward, late bloomers in life, have an obsession with butter and things fly when we are in the kitchen.   I loved Julia’s show “The French Chef” which PBS ran in reruns for years.  Her charm was that she just kept on going when things went wrong — she flubbed her flips, burned things, murdered lobsters and dropped things on the floor.  She would laugh that infectious laugh and carry on.  I knew I wanted to be like her — not cook perfectly, but have fun trying.
“The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude.”
So when my husband arranged a trip to Paris for me and my sister, Sue, I knew that I would be searching for Julia Child’s Paris on our trip.   My sister has a daughter that is a chef and graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu in Minneapolis,  so Sue was in for the adventure.  On our last day in Paris we set off early on the Metro with our maps and phones with GPS in hand feeling confident about our adventure.  Our first stop was going to be E. DEHILLERIN  where Julia Child was a regular.   She purchased her kitchenware here while she was attending cooking school at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and I wanted some!
E. Dehellerin has been around since 1820. They carry a large range of professional cookware in enamel, stainless steel, or copper  which is gorgeous.
After a short trip, we jumped off of the metro at a stop we had calculated about 6 blocks from our destination, fresh and ready to take on Julia Child’s Paris.  An hour and 2 cups of espresso later we found it.  This is where it seems appropriate to give you a few hints about finding your way in Paris — #1 Just because your GPS is pointing a certain direction — it doesn’t mean you are going that direction!  #2 There may be some delay in your GPS reception — consequently you have probably passed your turn before your GPS tells you to turn  (so refresh often). #3 One side of the street may be named one name and the other side of the street may have another name.  And #4, Paris does not put its crosswalks at the corner of an intersection — they are often 10 to 20 ft down the street — this means your GPS may take you down a street that doesn’t seem to match the street sign you are looking for making it tricky to figure out where to turn.
Finally finding the store washed all of the craziness of getting there away for me.  I was in love.  The first thing I saw were the charming window displays complete with 4 inches of dust on the gorgeous copper pots– a true sign of a time honored classic store.
I am charmed by what was probably the same window display Julia Child saw in the 50’s.
What on earth do you make in that copper roaster? Turduken?
The inside the store was magical  — I’m sure young, hip foodies would be disappointed due to it’s not very hip look.   Walking through the door is like walking into an old hardware store, bins, buckets, and walls of gadgets and copper pots — Perfect!
#gallery-0-9 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-9 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Lovely vintage window displays
Cooking hardware heaven.
Bins of cooking goodies — it looks like my husband’s shop in the barn!
Cooking gadgets I don’t even know what to do with!
Hidden treasures
Pretty…pretty…sigh
I bought a tiny butter pan, some tart pans and a 6″ copper saute pan.   Nothing has a price on it just has a number on it, then you have to look up the price on pricing sheets — just like buying an oil filter for your car!
My Life in France is an autobiography by Julia Child, written with her husband’s nephew and published in 2006.
Much of my vision of Julia Child in Paris comes from the book “My Life in France”, her autobiography.  It was also the book that the “Julia” part of the movie “Julie and Julia” was based on.  It is really a sweet love story not a cookbook.  When I think of her in Paris, I see her in the food markets, chatting up the vendors, squeezing the fruit and veggies and enjoying a meal with her husband Paul in local bistro.  She was in love with Paul, Paris and the food of Paris.
We had a happy marriage because we were together all the time. We were friends as well as husband and wife. We just had a good time.
After our pilgrimage to E. Dehellerin we leisurely wandered the streets in the area and were rewarded by finding a beautiful small food market, a bistro where we enjoyed a gorgeous Parisian salad and we ended up shopping in a small flea market around the corner.  All in all it was pretty fabulous and my pilgrimage lived up to my expectations!
This work of art was also incredibly delicious!
I would have loved to had access to a kitchen.  Next time I need to stay in an apartment so I can do some cooking! Maybe take a cooking class or bring Sue’s chef daughter to make it interesting.
I can see Julia chatting up the vendors and bringing home only the freshest of this seafood. I’m pretty sure there would be lots of butter involved.
France is  in growing zones  of 7, 8, & 9  which means they have fresh fruits and vegetables earlier than we do in Iowa — however, I don’t think they grow pineapple in France — LOL.
The little Paris market we found had food on one side and clothing etc. on the other side of the street.  I found a great sweater and my sister Sue bought an adorable blouse made in France.
Crepes on every corner! Your choice sweet or savory…or maybe both!
A blog about finding Julia Child in Paris would not be complete without a recipe.  Since crepes are the street food in Paris it seems like this is the recipe I should share from Julia’s  “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”.  And bonus you get a recipe for a fresh way we use crepes at our house.
As Julia would say, “Bon Appetit!”
Crepes
Recipe Type: Dessert Crepes
Cuisine: French
Author: Julia Child
Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Total time: 30 mins
Serves: 12
Light dessert crepes to be used for French Crepes Suzette by Julia Child.
Ingredients
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup cold water
3 egg yokes
1 Tb granulated sugar
3 Tb orange liqueur, rum or brandy
1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
5 Tb melted butter
An Electric blender
A rubber scraper
Instructions
Place the ingredients in the blender jar in the order in which they are listed.
Cover and blend at top speed for 1 minute.
If bits of flour adhere to the sides of the jar, dislodge with a rubber scarper and blend 3 seconds more.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
If you don’t have an electric blender proceed as follows:
Gradually work the egg yolks into the flour with a wooden spoon
Beat in the liquids by droplets, then strain the batter through a fine sieve
3.5.3226
Watch Julia Child make Crepes on the Smithsonian website for all of you visual learners!  I also highly recommend reading her cookbook she was ahead of her times with wonderful step-by-step instructions for each recipe.  You can  buy a vintage copy on Amazon!
Crepes are not as hard to make as you think, with a little practice you will be a pro– my husband impressed me when we were first dating with these fruit crepes! (Check out his recipe on my video at the bottom of this blog!)  There are many crepe recipes out there, Julia has 3  in her cookbook for different types of toppings.  Not all recipes include alcohol, so I would say it’s optional and you could use some water and flavoring to make up the 3 Tablespoons used in Julia’s recipe which is what I did when I made them the other night.  PS… Eric did say they “may be as good as his”…LOL
#gallery-0-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Julia uses a blender in her book to make them very smooth — you don’t need to but it’s quick and easy this way.
Add 3 egg yolks to the milk and water in the blender
Add sifted flour — I use a fine sieve onto wax or parchment paper to make it easy to add to the blender.
Add melted butter and blend until smooth about 3 minutes. Scrap often as needed.  Let the batter rest in fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Add a small amount of oil, swirl in pan. Heat pan until smoking on medium high heat
Take the pan off off the heat and pour in 1/4 cup of your batter. Tilt your pan going around to spread the batter on the bottom as thin as you can.
In 60 to 90 seconds it will be ready to turn. Use a spatula — this is my poor attempt of trying to flip it — bad idea!
This is what it should like like after to you flip it properly. Nice and lightly browned.
The second side will be more speckled and as Julia say’s — use this on the inside! I stack them up on a plate as I make them and use a small piece of paper towel between them to keep them from sticking.
Add your favorite filling and smother in a yummy sauce. Bon Appetit!
Check out my video below for “Date Night Crepes”
Here is the video of Eric’s Date Night Crepes which won me over.  Yup, I decided he was a keeper!  Eric used a tried and true one from Better Homes and Gardens and recreated the fruit topping and sauce from a restaurant he enjoyed.  However, I think Julia would approve of his recipe also —  sweet fruit with a sauce made with whipping cream rolled in a light crepe.  Yummy!

When my sister Sue and I went to Paris we spent a day "Finding Julia Child in Paris....and crepes on every street corner!" Here is the story! Julia Child is my food heroine.  We have so much in common -- we are both a little awkward, late bloomers in life, have an obsession with butter and things fly when we are in the kitchen.

Which BBQ Grill Is Best for You?
There’s something primal and infinitely satisfying about cooking outdoors. For modern families, the BBQ grill is much more than a way to give “Mom” a break from the kitchen.
Tumblr media
BBQ grills have become a central feature when entertaining friends and family, for tailgate parties and even intimate dinners. In other words, a way of life.
The range and scope of BBQ grills has changed dramatically over the years with numerous models and features. There are traditional outdoor types, hibachis that can be used on a fireplace, and even stove-top models.
For most of us, there are four types of BBQ grills that you’ll encounter on your search for the perfect grill:
Natural Gas & Propane – the most popular types
Charcoal – popular with traditionalists
Electric / Infrared – no fire needed
Portable – a solution for people on the go
There’s far more to consider when purchasing a BBQ grill than its appearance. BBQ grills vary widely in price. Some can even double as smokers, but there’s no single “best” grill for everyone. The best grill is the one that’s right for you and your lifestyle.
Below are a few considerations to keep in mind…
Cost of BBQ Grills
Bigger isn’t always better and the larger the grill, the more expensive it tends to be. Know how much you’re willing to spend before you go shopping. A small and serviceable grill can be had for as little as $1500, and a high-end model can cost upwards of $10,000 depending upon features.
Quality in materials and workmanship counts and it’s important to remember that well-performing grills of all types are available to fit your most discerning taste.
BBQ Grills Cooking Space
Some BBQ grills are gleaming monuments to how many features can be packed into a single unit. However, the size of your cooking space is one consideration you must make carefully.
Always look to the main cooking grate size. Some BBQ grills come with upper tier warming racks and this space can be included into the total cooking space measurement.
An important feature on your BBQ grills’ cooking area is heat distribution. There is nothing worse than cooking two steaks side by side and having to cook one longer than the other due to uneven heat underneath.
Food on a grill should never be crowded – count on leaving about .5 inches around each piece of meat for it to cook appropriately. Of course, the space you’ll need will depend on the type and quantity of meat you’ll typically be preparing, whether you’re grilling burgers, hotdogs, chicken or steak.
Additional space will be needed if you intend to grill vegetables. About 72 square inches of cooking space per person is optimal. That translates roughly into the size of a dinner plate which is enough to feed a party of 4.
If you’ll be cooking a turkey, you may need at least 12 inches of head space in the hood to accommodate the bird.
Fuel Source
The debate over charcoal vs. infrared vs. gas rages on unabated, and there’s no single best answer. Modern day grill masters have multiple options from which to choose that includes:
Charcoal – The use of charcoal is a traditional method that produces food with a smoky flavor. Highly efficient and effective as a fuel source, charcoal takes longer to achieve optimal temperatures, but can be combined with wood chips. You’ll need to dispose of the ash that’s left after each grilling session
Gas – A gas grill can be connected to natural gas or tanks of propane gas. Todays gas grills require little clean-up and are still the most popular type available. Some also include sear or infrared burners
Electric / Infrared – These grills offer easy to use temperatures controls. An added advantage is that electric grills are often allowed on many balconies where other types of grills are prohibited
Wood pellets – Grills that use wood pellets are one of the newest and rapidly increasing in popularity. Temperature control is highly accurate, allowing grillers to “set-it-and-forget-it.” Grills that use pellets are typically popular for slow cooking and smoking.
No matter which grill fuel type you choose, it’s important to acknoledge that all will cook your food and your preference will dictate which one is best for you.
Smoking is a popular pastime for many and can create some of the most delectable flavors desired. However, some grills can double as smokers and offer a similar flavoring results.
Igniters & Starters
The way you start your grill is as important as its cooking ability. Gas grills typically have an electric igniter that produces a spark and is powered by a small battery. They’re quick and easy.
Without an “electric start,” you’ll may need matches to ignite quick acting charcoal or your wood pellet grill may come with a hot rod that ignites the pellets.
Construction Materials
The materials that grills are made of run the gamut from cast iron and aluminum to stainless steel. 304 Stainless steel is the material of choice for high end grills that are built to last.
You can also choose grills with powder or ceramic coverings that help impede rusting. Inexpensive painted grills may chip and peel, exposing the metal to the elements that result in rust and deterioration. Enamel coverings don’t fade and can endure high heat, but can become brittle over time.
Workmanship & Durability
Whether you choose a portable model or one that’s anchored to a single location, there are some items to consider before you purchase.
Look for:
Sturdiness
Large wheels that roll freely if you’ll move it from place to place
Sharp edges that can pose a significant potential for injury
A good warranty
You should also examine the grates where you’ll be cooking the food. Some grates are sturdy and built to last even with high usage, while others are formed from cheap, lightweight metals. The good news is good quality grates can be purchased to replace inferior pieces.
BBQ Grill Features
Some people consider a rotisserie and side burners a necessity, while others don’t care. If you’ll be roasting chicken or turkey regularly, you will find a BBQ grill with a rotisserie very useful.
Rotisseries will also require an electric source. Rotisseries also come in various weight capacities, so make sure yours is able to handle your needs.
Even the least expensive grills incorporate a thermometer into their design, but they can be cheaply made and inaccurate. Invest in at least one good thermometer for inside the grill, preferably a digital model.
If you would like to install a luxury built-in BBQ grill into your outdoor kitchen, make sure to follow the maintenance guidelines from the manufacturer. It will definitely extend the life of the grill and make cooking more enjoyable. Unlike inexpensive grills, you will always find replacement parts for high-end grills.
Another great feature of luxury BBQ grills is that you can adapt it from propane to natural gas if desired.
Shelves, Storage and Side Burners
Be sure any shelves are sturdy enough to hold heavy dishes. Wood racks are attractive, but may not be as durable. Storage space for cooking utensils and other necessities can be time savers. Side burners are a great convenience and a must have for many grill masters.
Grills typically come unassembled – don’t overestimate your ability to assemble the pieces. It’s not just a question of ability. You’ll also want to consider if you’ll use your grill only at home, if it will be used for small or large gatherings, and if it will be required to do double as a portable grill for events such as tailgate parties.
What’s Right for You?
A BBQ grill can be a great asset to your home and lifestyle. Do your research and take a look at a variety of models before deciding which one to purchase.
Multiple factors will determine the grill that’s best for you, such as how often you use it, your budget, and if it will fit into the space where it will be located.
Grilling is fun, bringing together family and friends in a celebration of life. Grills can be used in any climate and season, even in the dead of winter. The diversity currently available in grills is changing the way people around the world cook and spend their leisure time, offering the ability to create chef-styled meals any day of the year.
