So... My lil JP team has made it to the point that they're running the exact same route as my EN team did in this event while I was grinding points. I just don't have the funds available to grind as hard as I did on EN.
And I've made it to my cursed 6-1 map in the regular sorties (and almost made it through the map on 1 try).
So I guess I'm progressing smoothly.
#pei plays touken ranbu#i blame it on being able to build relatively balanced teams now#by 'exact same route' i mean doing the normal stage until a rainbow. then the extreme difficulty rainbow. repeat

This is an old ass post from a probably dead blog, but I wanted to share my thoughts after stumbling across this just in case someone from the future stumbles across it, too. In the first place, Mikazuki Munechika is never the same character across the spin-offs. Sometimes he’s more mysterious, sometimes he’s more silly and playful, sometimes he doesn’t act like how you’d expect Mikazuki to act at all. What is true Mikazuki is that, no matter how much better you think one portrayal is, neither the stage or musical portrayals are completely accurate representations of how Mikazuki Munechika actually is since both lean too far into portraying him a certain way and are ultimately how the writer envisions Mikazuki would/should act.
Browser game Mikazuki Munechika, which is the only completely true and accurate characterization of the character due to being the original one and the basis for all current and future versions of Mikazuki, is not the extremely mysterious and goofy yet tragic guy that Hiroki Suzuki portrays him as, nor is he the somewhat less mysterious, sometimes silly, and youthful guy Kuroba Mario portrays him as. Both portrayals are just the writer and directors’ interpretation of browser game Mikazuki, which is then expanded upon and molded to suit the medium Mikazuki appears in. It is, once again, not how or who Mikazuki Munechika actually is, and no one has officially gone on the record to make such a claim. In fact, official media accepts both portrayals of the character because.. well, they’re both official portrayals of the character. No one is superior to the other in that regard. They both just exist as the character and are recognized as different yet equal portrayals in alternate citadels.
I also think Both actors are perfectly cast for the medium they appear in as Mikazuki. Kuroba Mario suits the musical and that writers vision of Mikazuki, and Hiroki Suzuki suits the stage play and that writers vision of Mikazuki. I don’t doubt either of their acting ability, but I don’t think Kuroba Mario would be suited to portray a darker Mikazuki, and Hiroki Suzuki would definitely not suit the tone of the musicals, no matter how well anyone think he suits Mikazuki in the stage plays or how much more accurate anyone thinks his portrayal is. He would just not fit visually or acting wise. They’re just too different, as are the tones of the plays, and wouldn’t fit at all if they switched.
Anyway I think that’s all I have to. I’m tired of this Marichika vs Hirochika debate as if the obvious answer isn’t that they fit perfectly for the medium they’re cast in. Neither one is better or “more like Mikazuki” because neither are actually Mikazuki. They’re just a writers somewhat inaccurate and expanded upon version of them.
“Unpopular Opinion: I don’t like Hiroki Suzuki as Jiji, I wanted Mario to be in the stage play too. :(”
#Didn’t want to include this in the og post since I didn’t want to detract from what I was saying but if op meant appearance wise then I’d be#More inclined to agree. Kuroba Mario looks way more convincing as Mikazuki than Hiroki Suzuki does especially after he aged into the role#But yeah. People need to accept that Hiroki Suzuki was otherwise perfectly cast as Mikazuki in the stage play while Kuroba Mario was#perfectly cast as musical Mikazuki. There would be no point in trying to switch them out since they suit the story they were cast to be in#Mikazuki Munechika#Confession#Toumyu#Tousute#Touken Ranbu#Tourabu#Suzuki Hiroki#Kuroba Mario#Tachi

And there he is!!
I watched his livestream the whole way through, and he was still just sweet old Seiichiro. He looks great, he sounds happy, and he looked like he was having a good time, given he was smiling a lot😁 From what I gathered he's still recovering and not at 100% yet, but we get to finally see him and celebrate his birthday with him. Happy birthday Seiichiro!!🎉💙🥰
~Bonus pics from his Twitter~AGH SO CUUUUUUUUUUTE 😭🩵

A lot is lost in the tags for this one so I'm just gonna gently get up on my parapet and say Tsuwamono is, without a question, the best of Toumyu and arguably one of the best stories told in the long and varied tapestry of extended Touken Ranbu media. It's easily up there with Tenden as sister series aiming to dissect and study 'perfect' characters and show the aspects of them that make them human and how their humanness serves to make them more admirable and powerful in retrospect, of how fragility and vulnerability are luxuries for those with the world on their shoulders, of how perfection is just another burden for those who already care entirely too much for those around them.
If you've never seen Tsuwamono but are interested in Mikazuki, Kogitsunemaru, the Sanjo swords as a whole or the Genji brothers and would like to see well crafted, well explored, and extremely tightly written interpretations of them as they struggle through the lines of their responsibility as swords vs their duties to their fellows as companions, brothers in arms and friends then I'd highly recommend you read these subs. While there are subtleties that will be lost through being unable to watch the performance, the script is strong enough to stand on its own as a perfectly serviceable piece of literature and the OP's extremely thorough translator's notes help to uncover the some complexities of the script that are missed on a viewing of the production!
Really an absolutely gorgeous production and I will absolutely resurrect from the dead just to make posts about it I swear to god -
Musical Touken Ranbu: Tsuwamonodomo ga Yume no Ato english sub
A passion project if there's ever been one, it's been a longstanding want of mine to finally do this! Needless to say, Tsuwamono and everything it meant is still my favourite plot from Toumyu! I love its character-driven and intricate writing, its heartrending acting choices, as well as the way it invites one to think about what characters think and why, and why they do or don't (dare to) do the things they do.
However, another important reason that I'm letting myself indulge in this, is that recent Toumyu has taken a turn away from this plot, changing the way how Mikazuki is framed, tying different characters to themes that were tied to Kogitsunemaru, and put those characters into roles that would originally have been most natural for Kogitsunemaru to follow.
In that light, then, I hope that these subtitles will allow you to see, even if it's just the smallest sliver, what I loved in Toumyu's take of Kogi and Mika up to and including Kotobuki. To see that it was beautiful. Because I think it was. 💙💛🌙🦊
Keep in mind that the files in the folder below are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the blu-ray and DMM senshuuraku distribution. The folder also includes a pdf with translation notes, some background information where I felt it would add, and just a little bit of eager gushing about the references made.
You can find the folder with all the aforementioned files here!
Please enjoy, even if it's just with me in your thoughts.
#touken ranbu#ginger rambles#ginger talks about sword boys#tsuwamono#toumyu#I'm not gonna tag the cast or anything since this isn't actually talking about them#But y'all this play is so so so so SO good#Myu in general is fantastic but Tsuwamono is next level#Some of the best stage writing I've ever seen in a modern musical#There are so many themes and parallels and symbols to discuss#Also I have to mention that it's a sequel to Atsuibun#Cause it's a sequel to Atsuibun so there are some plotlines in here continuing from that#But it stands completely on its own which is also a gorgeous thing about Toumyu#Honestly I need to make more posts about toumyu in general#Cause the new play has me preemptively mad I'm gonna be so real LMFAO#Anyway everyone say thank you Water
