Saint Lorenzo Ruiz
1600-1637
Feast Day: September 28
Patronage: Filipino youth, the Philippines, overseas workers, altar servers
Saint Lorenzo Ruiz was born in the Philippines and was a happily married family man who joined the Dominican Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. He was accused of murder and fled on a Dominican mission ship to Japan. At that time, the rulers of Japan were persecuting Christians, so they were arrested, tortured unbearably for 2 years and died by the “gallows and pit”. In 1983, St. Lorenzo, the first Filipino saint and martyr, was canonized by Pope John Paul II after a 2-year-old girl was miraculously cured of hydrocephaly.

“Five Saints Saga”
The story follows Pietro, with no memory of his past, washes ashore where he is taken in by a group of unique individuals blessed with elemental powers and supernatural abilities. He meets James and John, the lively pranksters, Miss M, the astute debater, Cecilia, the reserved and insightful "flower," Kateri, the serious older sister, Maria, the witty illiterate, and Anna Wang, the introverted Chinese girl with limited speech. Adopted by Lorenzo and Marina, a devoted Asian couple, Pietro begins his journey with this eclectic group.
Adopted by Lorenzo and Marina, an Asian couple with strong parental instincts, Pietro embarks on a journey with The group. During a late night walk, one of the Black Seven, Elvire Sven, abducts Anna for sinister intentions. Vira Tsavf, leader of the Black Seven, harbors secret aspirations to rule over the Five Flags. Amidst their quest, the group experiences sporadic moments of "consciousness blackouts," hinting at their forgotten pasts. The prophecy foretells that the Five Saints will overthrow the Black Seven, and light shall prevail against the darkness. As the prophecy unfolds, Pietro and the others prepare to face the formidable Black Seven, all while uncovering their lost memories. In the gripping narrative, Lady Cecilia foresees the emergence of the nine new heroes who will be christened *The Five Saints*. Armed with elemental powers reflective of their individual personalities, they embark on a mission to rescue Anna Wang, dethrone the Black Seven, and establish a base of operations from which to wage a war against the forces of darkness. The question looms. Can Pietro and his companions harness the power of light to overthrow the shadow looming over their world?

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT JOHN PAUL II The Patron of Kraków and World Youth Day Feast Day: October 22
"There is no evil to be faced that Christ does not face with us. There is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered. There is no cross to bear that Christ has not already borne for us, and does not now bear with us." -from the Eucharistic Celebration Homily, October 1995
One of the greatest popes in the history of the Roman Catholic Church, and before he became known as John Paul the Great, he was born Karol Józef Wojtyła, on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Kraków Voivodeship, Poland.
When Karol was just eight years old, his happy family life was saddened by the early death of his parents, Karol Wojtyła, a non-commissioned officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army and captain of the Polish Armed Forces, and Emilia Kaczorowska, a schoolteacher who was of distant Lithuanian heritage, as he said: 'At twenty, I had already lost all the people I loved.'
His elder sister Olga had died before his birth, but he was close to his brother Edmund, nicknamed Mundek, who was 13 years his senior. Edmund's work as a physician eventually led to his death from scarlet fever, a loss that affected Wojtyła deeply.
Karol was an athletic youth, often played football as a goalkeeper, and also performed with various theatrical groups and worked as a playwright. During this time, his talent for language blossomed, and he learned as many as 15 languages including English and Esperanto. During the Nazi occupation of Poland, from 1940 to 1944, Karol worked in a limestone quarry and then in Solvay chemical factory.
In order to fulfill his vocation in October 1942 at the height of World War II, he entered the clandestine seminary of Kraków, run by Adam Stefan Sapieha, the archbishop of Kraków, and after finishing his studies at the seminary, he was ordained priest on All Saints' Day - November 1, 1946, a year after the war ended. He was first assigned in a small parish near Kraków, and then he served as professor and chaplain at the Catholic University of Lublin (now John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin). At a very young age, because of his exceptional talents, he became archbishop of Kraków and then Cardinal.
Following the death of John Paul I, ten days after the funeral, at the age of 58, Karol elected as pope on October 16, 1978, and chose the name John Paul II in honor of his predecessor. Having consecrated his papacy to the Blessed Virgin Mary, as his motto says: 'Totus Tuus', meaning 'I am all yours'.
He embarked in a tireless apostolate around the world. The Pilgrim Pope, as he was known, he visited 129 countries, and travelled more than all previous 263 Popes combined. Moreover, he is credited to be the spiritual inspiration behind the fall of Communism in 1991.
While visiting Jerusalem in March 2000, John Paul became the first pope in history to visit and pray at the Western Wall. In September 2001, amid post-11 September concerns, he travelled to Kazakhstan, with an audience largely consisting of Muslims, and to Armenia, to participate in the celebration of 1,700 years of Armenian Christianity.
On May 13, 1981, the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, he was shot and critically wounded by Mehmet Ali Ağca, an expert Turkish gunman who was a member of the militant fascist group Grey Wolves, and he miraculously survived the assassination attempt in St. Peter's Square. Ağca was caught and restrained by a nun and other bystanders until police arrived. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Two days after Christmas in 1983, John Paul II visited Ağca in prison. John Paul II and Ağca spoke privately for about twenty minutes.
The pope made two trips to the Philippines: the first on February 18, 1981 where Lorenzo Ruiz is beatified in Manila, to which is the first beatification ceremony to be held outside the Vatican, and in January 15, 1995, during the X World Youth Day, he offered Mass to an estimated crowd of between five and seven million in Luneta Park in the Philippines, which was considered to be the largest single gathering in Christian history. And because of his special relationships with them, he is also known as the 'Pope of the Youth'.
As an extension of his successful work with youth as a young priest, John Paul II pioneered the international World Youth Days. He presided over nine of them: Rome, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Compostella, Częstochowa, Denver (in the state of Colorado), Manila, Paris, and Toronto. The total attendance at these signature events of the pontificate was in the tens of millions. The Great Jubilee of 2000 was a call to the church to become more aware and to embrace his missionary task for the work of evangelization.
During the final days of the pope's life, the lights were kept burning through the night where he lay in the Papal apartment on the top floor of the Apostolic Palace. Tens of thousands of people assembled and held vigil in St. Peter's Square and the surrounding streets for two days. Upon hearing of this, the dying pope was said to have stated: 'I have searched for you, and now you have come to me, and I thank you.'
After a long and painful sickness, John Paul II went home to the Lord, on a sorrowful Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the age of 84, at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. His final words were: 'Pozwólcie mi odejść do domu Ojca. (Allow me to depart to the house of the Father.)'
He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on May 1, 2011, and three years on April 27, 2014 on Divine Mercy Sunday, together with Pope John XXIII, he was canonized a saint by Pope Francis.

Santa Magdalena de Nagasaki (St. Magdalene of Nagasaki) Feast day: September 28 She was left on her own resources at the age of twenty two when her parents perished in the great persecution in Japan. She first entered the Order of Augustinian Recollects as a Tertiary. Years later, her Recollect Superiors were martyred and she placed herself under the direction of a Dominican father, Jordan of St. Stephen, and received the habit as a tertiary. At a public hearing presided over by the Mandarin, after her arrest and torture, she stood up and cried out her profession of faith. She was martyred in 1634. She was beatified and canonized together with San Lorenzo Ruiz. #KatolikongPinoy #orapronobis #igerph #catholic #CatholicChurch #Catholiclife

Don’t forget St Lorenzo Ruiz (Chinese Filipino), the 400+ martyrs of Japan, the 87 Chinese martyrs of the Boxer rebellion, and the fact that 5 million people attended World Youth Day in Manila in 1995, a record broken only by the Mass led by Pope Francis in the same city when 6 million attended in 2015.
look it's two of my favourite things in one image

Reflection: Truth Lives
Today, we remember St. Lorenzo Ruiz and his companions. San Lorenzo never thought nor intended to become a martyr. As a catechist, he sought holiness and faithfulness to God. He joinedthe mission to Japan in response to the call to preach the Gospels.
In the process, they faced death in the mission. San Lorenzo and his companions realized there was no turning back. It was either they survive by renouncing the faith or they die professing it. San Lorenzo found a way to proclaim, “If I had a thousand lives, I will give it all to God.”
Martyrdom is grace—a vocation. We will not immediately know if we are called to it. When the situation comes, God will give us the grace to accept it. We will still have the freedom to decide whether to accept or reject it. Our natural reaction is, of course, to survive.
Death is always feared. But death for the faith is different. The Christian puts his faith before his life. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Death does not end things. We have known many who died for what they believed in and their spirit and words continue to affect human lives, such as Mahatma Gandhi, Thomas More, and Ninoy Aquino, to name a few. Of course, the greatest of them all is our Lord Jesus Christ. Eliminating the medium does not necessarily eliminate the message—in fact, the more the message is heard loud.
We are proud of San Lorenzo. Before his canonization, many Filipinos — and maybe other nationalities too—thought that a Filipino can never be a saint. San Lorenzo proved us and them wrong. In fact, we now have a second one in St. Pedro Calungsod. It is just sad that both saints don’t seem to be popular among Filipinos. It is about time to cultivate the messages of their lives and believe that the Filipino Catholic can be a saint. We have a lot of qualities worthy of being a saint. We have weaknesses, too, going against us. All in all, Saints Lorenzo and Pedro made it. Kaya din natin! (We can do it too!)
~Fr. Benny Tuazon
Reflection Questions:
How do you live the truth of your faith? What are you willing to offer to proclaim those truths?
San Lorenzo and companions, pray for us!
Prayer
… for a deep and profound respect for life especially for the unborn
… for the strength and healing of the sick
… for the healing and peace of all families
Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.
God Bless!

PRAYER TO
SAN LORENZO RUIZ DE MANILA
O most merciful and almighty God,
You bestowed as gift to Lorenzo Ruiz
the strength to withstand
the overpowering forces of death
for the sake of his faith in You.
Through his prayers,
help us to follow his example
by overcoming all life’s trials
and eventually, increase
our hope and love in You.
O St. Lorenzo Ruiz,
you brought honor to your country,
having been a level-headed
and prudent father of the family,
a witness of Christ in your life
until your death.
We present all our petitions
to God through your help
so that by our actions,
we may know more and love more
Jesus our Lord and Savior.
We humbly implore
your intercession O dear St. Lorenzo,
for the infinite glory of God
and in honor of your triumph
as a martyr of Christ
and defender of Christianity.
Amen.

Hello Everyone! I'm Denise
Welcome! In this blog I'm going to share with you 3 best places I've visited. I hope that through this blog I can take you with me and together let's explore and discover the uniqueness and beauty of these places.
First is the historic city of Vigan. I've been here when I was in Elementary. Vigan is known for it's preserved Spanish colonial and Asian Architecture. Calle Crisologo, Bantay Church Bell Tower, Vigan Cathedral and Plaza Burgos are the famous tourist spots in Vigan City. Their Empanada and bagnet is a must try delicacy when you visit Vigan.
Second is the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City. This is the perfect time to visit this place because the weather is very hot and Baguio is known for having cold weather. There are many tourist spots that you can visit here including Burnharm Park, The Mansion, Mines View Park, Botanical garden, Night Market and Strawberry Farm. Your Baguio experience can't be complete without trying their famous strawberry ice cream and strawberry taho. And if you're looking for the best place for buying souvenirs you can go visit their public market, the prices there are much cheaper compared to other souvenir shops.
The closest place that you can visit is Batangas. Taal Batangas which is obviously the home of Taal Volcano. The heritage town of Taal is one option that I recommend if you want to visit places like Vigan which have ancient houses. Some of their tourist spots that you can visit there are Taal Park which is located near Minor Basilica of St. Martin of tours, San Lorenzo Ruiz Steps, Galleria Taal and Taal Volcano.
If you want to go to Hongkong Disneyland, Fantasy World located in Lemery Batangas is an option. It would have been the Disneyland of the Philippines if the work on it continued but due to low funds of the Japanese businessman owner it was abandoned and it was now currently run and maintained by the homeowners association. The entrance fee here is only 100 pesos per head and you can take as many pictures as you want. You can also rent royal outfits and dresses inside so your Disney Princess experience will be perfect and memorable.
Those are some of the places I've been to and I hope I can go to many more places in the future. Let's relax, be happy and enjoy life by traveling with our loved ones!

Prayer to St. Pedro Calungsod
After Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, Calungsod is the second Filipino to be declared a saint. He’s also known as Peter Calungsod and Pedro Calonsor. Was a Visyan migrant, sacristan and missionary catechist who, along with the Spanish Jesuit missionary Diego Luis de San Vitores, suffered religious persecution in Guam for their missionary work in 1672 (Wikipedia). ❤
